Commission Art - First Encounter
Tarzan and Jane scene was perfect for these two, so I commissioned John to draw! Lemo being an extra and having to witness this madness. :V Lemo knows about the Saiyans and what they're capable of, their vicious and bloodthirsty nature, so seeing one, alive, and taking an interest on Cheelai, IS NOT very comforting.
Brokk mainly wants to use them to leave Vampa and sees what he missed while stuck on the planet, but since Cheelai is the first humanoid (or Saiyanoid?) female he meets EVER, you can't blame the man for being at least a little curious. 🤭 👀

ITS BEEN SO LONGGGG 😭
DB rewrite AU redesign work
✨️Shaded✨️
Tumblr media
➖️Flat color➖️
Tumblr media
👇Lore info below cut👇
Vesper x Vegeta = Valia & Tarles
Vesper is a naturalist and musician
Vegeta is Vegeta (yes, his hair is up)
Valia is both a fighter in training and a magician
Valia is blind in one eye due to an incident during training
Tarles is a bookworm pacifist
I've changed the basis of Vesper and Vegeta's relationship in the story - Vesper and Vegeta knew each other since being forced into Frieza's army. (Originally, they never met until the Saiyajin Saga)
She's the only other person who knows Vegeta's born a female, King Vegeta being the other person, after being asked to perform his top surgery. They never 'got along', but they worked together well enough.
Vesper didn't catch feelings until during the Namek Saga, being able to work alongside him to stop Frieza. Her debut doesn't happen in the beginning of DBZ, but instead, the Namek Saga - being seen with Frieza, Dedoria, and Zarbon.
Valia and Tarles aren't born until after ToP, Vesper's pregnancy being revealed during ToP.
Antra x Piccolo = Koumori
Antra's race has been completely redesigned
Antra is an herbalist
Piccolo is more of a ninja after settling into the Z Fighter crew - being quiet/cold/stealthy
Koumori is still shy and anxious, but now carries on the ninja skills from Piccolo, but only fights if necessary
Koumori is a slight mutation of Echololan that causes him to have vampiric blood thirst, which is a very rare mutation
Antra and Piccolo have an agreed poly to allow Antra to date Supreme Kai, who is also with Beerus
Antra doesn't come in until the Future Trunks Saga, being Bulma's personal gardener alongside his job in the Galactic Gardener Association (OC organization). He ends up joining the group to see the whole Mecha Frieza vs. Future Trunks out of curiosity.
Antra catches feelings for Piccolo before his onscreen appearance, having seen him around the world while working. He enjoys Piccolo's cold personality since he sees it as 'another person like me who isn't my race'. Though, Piccolo has picked up on his presence here and there before but never interacted since Antra never posed a threat.
Koumori ended up with two pairs of ears, and no one is sure why. He has smaller wings than other echololans around his age, assumed to be because of his hybrid race. He has longer fangs than both Echololans and Namekians, probably having mixed the two genes. Both Koumori and Antra are mostly blind as most Echololans are, being gifted in seeing Ki than actual sight.
They are both also mostly deaf, causing them to not talk much. However, thanks to Koumori's double ears, the Namekian ears are better at picking up certain frequencies, but he's still hard-of-hearing for the most part.
Princess Fuji x Broly ≠ Orin
Fuji's race has been completely redesigned
Fuji is a powerhouse leader, mostly focused on Broly (originally interested in Vegeta and Broly- Vegeta for his status, Broly for his power)
Broly is Broly uwu (he has lots of freckles and sunspots)
Orin is a mediator for the conflict with the kids, refusing to fight completely
Orin is fully blind after an incident in battle
Orin is NOT Broly's kid (no one knows who his father is except Fuji) 🤭
Fuji's race/planet comes into play just before ToP, during the search for the Super Dragon Balls. Vegeta, Goku, and Vesper end up finding the planet at the edge of the universe by accident and meeting this subspecies of Saiyajin.
Fuji and Orin live on their planet, but visit both Vampa and Earth often. Fuji is instantly caught by Broly because of his power and personality. Orin sees Broly as his father, despite finding out he his real dad is before Broly's introduction to the story.
Fuji and Cheelai start as frenemies in a love triangle but end up just agreeing on 'we both can have feelings for him, it's whatever bestie'. Cheelai and Orin get along well, but she doesn't like how sarcastic he can be. Broly also sees Orin as his kid to an extent, still new to the whole step-dad role, and tries his best.

What do you think of the Saiyan's overall redesign in the DBS Broly Movie? Personally, I didn't like how they really stuck to that, "All Saiyans have black hair," thing. I thought the original King Vegeta and Saiyans surrounding him looked more interesting in DBZ. They even had a blonde guy when KV blew up those planets lmao (if only they knew)
I know the guy your talking about. He's from the flashback montage right before Vegeta dies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, his pal over there is rocking an SSJ4 Gingergeta look too, so this shot is pretty wild for a bunch of reasons. And then King Vegeta raises his hand and blows up three planets, including the one they're standing on, so I don't know what to make of that.
Anyway, as far as the hair color goes, the black-hair-only rule came from the scene where Vegeta disputes Trunks' claim to be a Saiyan, so the rule didn't exist back when DBZ Episode 86 was made. We can still interpret this in a few ways.
Vegeta was just stone cold wrong. I say this a lot, but it bears repeating: Most of what we know about Saiyans comes from Vegeta, but he's not an infallible source. There's bound to be things he doesn't know or couldn't know, and he probably still clings to a lot of propaganda fed to him in his youth.
The flashbacks aren't meant to be taken literally, and this could just be a coloring error in an otherwise consistent portrayal of the Saiyans.
The blonde guy could be a half-Saiyan like Trunks.
The blonde guy just likes to bleache his hair.
He's got some kind of medical condition that discolors his hair
Nonetheless, once Toriyama laid down the black hair rule, it appears to have been followed pretty closely, except...
Tumblr media
Nion, one of the scientists in the nursery in DBS: Broly, has dark blue hair. Maybe indigo? You get the idea. I don't think this is a trick of the light, either, since King Vegeta's in this scene, and his hair looks black. Nion clearly has a different hair color.
At first, I wondered if this meant she wasn't a Saiyan. Nion doesn't appear to have a tail either, and her uniform is too form-fitting for her to stuff it inside her clothes like her robed co-workers. But by all accounts, she seems to be a Saiyan character, and it makes sense. She speaks rather hopefully of Broly possibly becoming the next Super Saiyan, and one of Frieza's bootlicks wouldn't be nearly so enthusiastic when speaking of such a thing.
So what's up with Nion? Well, it's probably the same story as that blonde guy from DBZ 86. She colors her hair, or she's got some alien ancestry, or maybe there's more to Saiyans than Vegeta knew. My guess is that the movie was trying to show that there's a particular fashion among Saiyan scientists. The men in this scene all had very short, more "conventional haircuts". They also wore long choir robes. Nion has a different look, but there's like nine other women in the nursery with the exact same style, suggesting that they all wear that look to signify their profession. So maybe the blue hair is part of that, or Nion picked it up while she was at space college or something.
So from a hair standpoint, I think they just kind of ended up back where they started. Pure-blooded Saiyans may all start with black hair, and most of them stay that way, but a few Saiyans seem to develop an interest in coloring their hair for cosmetic reasons.
No, the main change I noticed from the Broly movie was that most of the Saiyan uniforms we saw were black and/or blue, which is kind of a shame, because I liked the various colors used in DBZ. Bardock had his green and black armor, Fasha/Seripa had pink, Towa had Carolina Tarheel blue, and so on. The movie also did Paragus dirty, because Paragus looked like the fuckin' man in Movie 8, and his DBS looks were all a downgrade.
Tumblr media
At least Gine got pink wristbands and sort of a dark teal outfit. That might be closer to green, but I can't tell. Anyway, I get it, they're uniforms. The whole point is that everyone looks the same. Still, I liked the idea that someone could requisition a hot pink and lime green armor and it was totally cool.
Ultimately, flashback scenes like these don't carry that much weight, since they're always susceptible to another retcon. One of these years, they'll do some "Andor"-style series about the Saiyan/Tuffle War, and we'll see a whole other depiction of Saiyans that will turn all of this on its ear, and I'll probably be coming up with some other rationale to make it all fit together.
Mostly, I'm just glad we got a peek into Saiyan culture beyond the front-line warriors in the DBZ flashbacks. Nion and her colleagues raise more questions than answers, but I'm still grateful for the questions. I think fans have postulated characters like Beetz and Gine for a long time, and the movie confirms that there was definitely more to Saiyan society than fighting.

imo it makes sense that the characters don't talk all that much about their traumatic backstories bc A) that's just not really how toriyama rolls, and B) they barely have time to talk in between training to stop the new bad guy, fighting the new bad guy, and forgetting to visit each other during timeskips (mood tho ngl). as for vegeta's "no one can know" vs "who gives a shit", it mostly boils down to how embarrassing/offensive to his pride he personally finds the thing in question. that one time he and raditz were seeing how many people they could decapitate by kicking other people's already decapitated heads at their new targets' heads like a horrible fusion of soccer, bowling, and murder? sure he'll share that, that was funny as fuck. that one time he got the shit beaten out of him bc he mouthed off to someone stronger? taking that to the grave.
honestly, i don't think goku would stick around long enough to be crowned king to begin with. "hey mr goku will you be our king?" "nah. bye!" is how i imagine that talk would go. and no, if king cold hadn't shown up, the saiyans still probably would've gone extinct, if not bc someone eventually killed them to stop the planetary piracy (they would've been somewhat less murder-y but definitely not super interested in the well-being of non-saiyans) then bc they didn't give enough of a shit about anything that wasn't fighting to make sure there were enough saiyans for another generation (and probably a lot of the ones who were out pirating would've ended up reproducing with the locals, so in maybe a thousand years or so there wouldn't be many saiyans left, but a lot of people with saiyan blood). it's a bit of a tragedy, in that they were kinda screwed regardless, but. technically that's true for pretty much everything ever, so it's not too bad.
honestly yeah, but they actually got along relatively ok for the couple years they actually got to interact with each other. not like great, but ok. ah, how our views of the past change over time... not that i'm implying escallion's somehow still around of course, no saiyan could've possibly escaped the planet's destruction (👀)
honestly the archivists don't matter all that much (they are all super dead and vegeta is the only living saiyan - aside from paragus if i decide to allow him to exist - to have ever really met one; they're just there bc i was having fun with worldbuilding). the super saiyan is pretty inconsistent in general, but while most saiyans probably thought of it as a fairy tale, it would've been more like a "yeah it's probably not true but i'm gonna try to get that strong anyway" thing. vegeta absolutely did believe it, partly bc he had to and partly bc he's very good at buying his own bs, raditz thought it probably wasn't real but if anyone could do it it'd be vegeta, and nappa didn't give a shit
guess i better start working on it for real then lol
that'd be pretty funny, but the whole "junior" thing wasn't really a concept for saiyans. i'm basing that a bit off my own people's superstition that naming a baby after someone who isn't dead yet is basically just tempting fate/expecting and/or hoping that that person will be dead soon...
technically yeah but i can answer it here. escallion was one of those "i don't need a bodyguard i'm a big kid" type of kid, so she was pretty constantly trying to ditch her nappa bodyguard (general brukwe, named after brookweed). at one point she ended up ducking into a butcher shop and - literally - bumping into raditz. they immediately got into a fistfight bc that's how saiyans do, and even tho raditz got his ass handed to him in like five seconds flat, they became friends pretty quickly (she thought he was funny). i don't know if she was better or worse than vegeta as a kid– they were both kids, after all, so neither of them would be as nasty as vegeta was when goku first met him. definitely better than adult vegeta, although probably not for any moral highground type of reason. as for gine's kids, yeah, the deaths were mostly natural (granted, "natural death" doesn't really... mean anything? like all death is natural; there's always a reason people kick the bucket). a lot of them just didn't survive being born. saiyan babies didn't have the best survival rate.
raditz and vegeta's relationship is... complicated. like even aside from their own personal issues and traumas, there's just a lot going on there. my version of vegeta's relationship with his minions is based off early vegeta being horrible but also raditz implying he thought vegeta might use the dragon balls to bring him back and nappa bothering to ask vegeta for help. there's a healthy dose of denial involved for all three of them, though. but raditz is haunting the narrative a lot harder than nappa is, i'll tell you that (also yes space autism forever)
i like vegebul in theory but very rarely in practice. i find it's very often shoved into whatever romance tropes are popular, which for me automatically makes a relationship Boring As Shit (oh they're sharing a bed? what about sharing a car and having to argue over who gets to drive today and who's taking the bus to work? be creative guys c'mon). genuinely the idea of vegeta just looking at bulma and falling for her is so deeply uninteresting to me that i'd honestly rather watch paint dry. i'm not interested in writing romance tropes to make people go "eeeeee!!!!!1111!!!", i'm interested in two jackasses trying to verbally murder each other. culture clash! 50 shades of being a dick to each other! having sex and forming an emotional attachment half a decade later on accident! people can write what they want ofc but i have no interest in watching a man and a woman make doe eyes at each other until he magically becomes a better person (she doesn't become a better person bc she accidentally left all her personality traits at the door to become a bland Good Girl who occasionally remembers she's supposed to be more than a walking romantic plot device). even good vegebul fics don't always manage to avoid this (this is not unique to vegebul tho it's a problem in most ship fics)
i definitely still don't have the room but i promise i'll get around to it eventually
@blueper-saiyan
#Not sure if I’m allowed to pull out these tags as a separate reblog#but that is an interesting and fucked up theory I like it#and absolutely want to hear the long version#vegeta
you absolutely are as far as i'm concerned but since op's post was getting a bit long i'll respond here
dbz always reblog i have a theory that there's actually a reason for this it stems from my theory that vegeta's mom doesn't exist bc he's a clone of his dad basically it eventually become obvious that frieza was going to take whichever kid was heir to the throne so king vegeta (kv i guess) went ''aight we need a Super Baby (no tuffles allowed) and i'm the coolest guy on the planet. need a baby me'' so he gets a bunch of the buffest nerds imaginable (be real saiyan scientists like the job bc they get to fight physics) and start working kv: i need this kid to last as long as possible we're gonna need to buy some time scientists: got it boss *proceed to make the universe's most ridiculously hard to kill infant* how's this kv: excellent. frieza catch! frieza: oh this is adorable! i'm going to traumatize it =) <-an extremely brief summary of my hc
(^the tags in question)
ok so first there are a couple of things i need to get out of the way ahead of time– namely, i'm not the first person to come up with the vegeta-is-a-clone idea; the first person i saw with that idea was someone who wrote a fic i read a while back that i'm blanking on the name of at the moment, and while their version is massively different from mine, the core concept of clone!veggie is more or less the same
the second thing is that i get way too into world building sometimes and so a lot of pieces of my hcs get mixed up with one another and often don't fit in with established canon (which isn't like abnormal or anything but i want to clarify that i already know some of this doesn't perfectly slot up. in my defense the db timeline doesn't even match up with itself half the time)
the final thing is that while i've seen bits of the anime and the first handful of super episodes, i'm mostly a manga fan, so i view any non-manga parts of dragon ball as free real estate
buckle up, i was not kidding about the length (*immature snickering*)
SO.
first and foremost the relationship between the tuffles and the saiyans: the tuffles are described as being a peaceful yet technologically advanced race, but in my hc, they're a bit more complicated than that. for starters, i don't see how a supposedly peaceful race is going to have high-tech blasters, and while it's possible that they're for defensive purposes, it... really doesn't give off that vibe. also they were super into some fairly questionable science, some of which objectively involved human experimentation (or... humanoid experimentation, i guess)
jumping back to the future for a sec: gohan. gohan is a half-human, half-saiyan male hybrid, and while two separate species somehow producing a hybrid child isn't unheard of, male hybrids are almost always completely infertile. and yet, gohan grows up and has a kid (another explanation is gohan and videl are t4t, which i also love, but it doesn't really fit into this). so how are saiyans and humans not only capable of reproducing together, but capable of having children that can also reproduce? my theory here is that saiyans are genetically modified (early) humans– tuffles arrived on earth sometime prior to homo erectus finishing the jump to homo sapiens, grabbed a handful of various lab rats, and got to work.
this would also explain why saiyan tails look the way they do. to elaborate, here's a spider monkey skeleton:
Tumblr media
notice how the tail is made up of more vertebrae that continue along the same curve as the rest of the spine. meanwhile, goku's tail looks like this:
Tumblr media
it juts straight out, almost perpendicular to his spinal cord. to me, that does not look like how tails work– it looks grafted on. in the video game kakarot, bulma even makes goku a fake tail for him to fish with that he can just... stick right on there. i know dragon ball science is already broken af (someone please explain to me how dr briefs isn't basically a deity for inventing capsules), but if the tail is a genetic trait that didn't evolve naturally, it makes some sense (in the way anything in dragon ball makes sense, that is)
so– saiyans are a highly adaptable species that seem to be able to eat basically whatever, can both endure and dish out catastrophic amounts of damage, are biologically driven to fight to the point where it's hard to imagine how a society full of them could function at all, get stronger whenever they recover from being seriously injured, can transform into giant apes, and yet have a glaringly obvious weakness that can pretty much completely incapacitate them if you know about it? they seem designed for war, and not in the natural evolution-is-just-funny-like-that-sometimes way.
what we know about the tuffles sort of differs from source to source, but the most negative opinions come from the saiyans– according to vegeta, the tuffles basically treated them as slaves. which... yeah, that adds up, given everything.
anyway, here's where i divorce from canon entirely bc according to gt, king vegeta iii is the one who led the saiyans in the war against the tuffles, which raises... honestly so many questions. so i'm ignoring that; it was vegeta i and he was never officially king, but more on that later. i also need to note that the whole "saiyans lived on planet sadala, fucked it up, and moved to planet plant which later became planet vegeta" to my knowledge is not manga canon but since i like the general idea, i sorta moved it a bit.
in my version, the saiyans and the tuffles both lived on planet sadala, but the war between the two species got a little out of hand and the planet was kaputski (to be fair, if you suddenly got to turn into a giant ape and wreak havoc on the people who were possibly enslaving you, you might go a bit overboard too), so the saiyans stole all the tuffles' ships and gtfo'd (this is why everyone was so sure the tuffles were gone. bc typically blowing up someone's planet is a good way to get rid of all of them. at least in theory– i'm sure frieza can tell you all about how well it works in practice)
back to vegeta i– he wasn't a king, technically, but he was the saiyan who started, led, and according to all saiyan sources (which are biased but w/e) finished the revolt, and chose to die on the planet in an act of heroic sacrifice and/or symbolism and/or his daughter twisted a fact or two bc propaganda is a game we all can play, and the new planet they landed on was named after him. said daughter took the same name, declared the planet and the king to be one and the same, and set about conquering the shit out of it. so vegeta ii was technically the first king but if you asked her she was the second and also disrespecting her father and probably also about to be killed via spear (oh btw king vegeta ii is famed for her giant war spear which was very cool and intimidating and probably didn't see much use outside of ritual combat bc it's honestly more efficient to just blast people but all the statues and art and whatnot have her with it)
i'm going to take a minute to gloat about vegeta ii bc honestly she's one of my alltime favorite ocs that i've made, despite the fact that i don't intend to ever have her show up in anything (yass gurl haunt that narrative!!!) but basically she's a deeply respected figure in saiyan culture, although she died way before any of the saiyans still alive in dbz were born (except nappa), bc she... basically built saiyan culture from scratch. pretty much all the core beliefs the saiyans as a people had were from her very deliberately and surprisingly sneakily forcing them to be developed bc she was fully aware that the saiyans needed more than a love of battle to actually survive as a society independent of the tuffles. she basically had the whole thing set up and ready to last and become a proper empire but unfortunately the one kid that lived long enough to succeed her (by killing her in combat, obviously, and yes the others all tried and died– she's an important figure, not a nice one) ran face first into frieza and we all know how that went down
anyhow, vegeta ii's reign (which lasted a crazy long time bc she lived way longer than she should've and almost certainly used some kind of not-so-great method of living that long, but in her defense she needed to make sure at least one of her kids was cool enough to be in charge, so what's a few war crimes between monarchs) pretty much cemented all the saiyan pride and identity that vegeta iv is so fond of, and not just bc she was his grandma either.
the reason i have to get through all of that to explain my clone!vegeta theory is bc i need to explain why king vegeta iii became king in the first place– under vegeta ii's system, anyone could challenge for the throne at any time, regardless of who they were. her own children were expected - but not required - to do so, and if she died before an heir could kill her in glorious combat, the princes would become stewards and have the duty of finding the next king (who couldn't be one of them. fight and die for that shit like a real saiyan or no throne for you). however, there was actively incentive not to do that bc A) whoever's in charge has to actually be in charge and therefore gets to fight way less, and B) in order to become king you had to be ritually stripped of your identity as a person with the understanding that if you died during your challenge your name would be stricken from all records, none of your family or friends would ever acknowledge that you had ever existed, and you would simply cease to be (the afterlife doesn't follow these rules but most of the saiyans who are there still do, including the ones who by saiyan law no longer exist. say what you will about saiyans; they're a dedicated lot)
so anyway vegeta iii (before becoming vegeta iii – he had a different name bc names are super important in my version of saiyan culture but if i get into that here we will literally be here for the rest of the week - but i'll call him that for the sake of my sanity) is somewhat reluctant to challenge for the throne bc none of his siblings have managed it (not that they exist anymore whoops), but one of his colleagues/presumed ruling partner (not gonna get into saiyan relationships here either sorry) has been pushing him to do so for a while now
i think i've gone through a few names for vegeta's not-mom, but the most recent one is touga (from tougarashi, or capsicum annuum, and yes i was thinking of neon orange glimmer song by the mountain goats when i named her), so i'll call her that. touga is a pretty saiyan-y saiyan– she's violent, temperamental, proud, strong, and so forth, but another thing she is is deeply, deeply loyal to her people. she's also very aware of vegeta iii's weaknesses (such as "will probably care a little too much about kids if he has any" and "may make decisions based off of feelings instead of cold hard practical logic" and "seems likely to develop emotional attachments to family members"; you know, normal kingly failings) and has the lady macbeth-esque stainless steel go-fuck-yourself coldness to make up for her future husband's pathetic little morals or whatever
anyway, touga pushes vegeta iii to go for the throne bc holy shit his mom has been alive for way too long but also she has faith in hi or something and duty and whatever and dude do it if you ever want this saiyan tail, and eventually he caves and goes for it. he fights his mom, wins, gets a shiny new king name and is all set to run his kingdom. and then king cold shows up.
now in between killing his mom and our favorite chilly boys coming to town, vegeta iii and touga have had a kid, prince escallion (who is a girl ftr but i can't get into saiyan thoughts on sex/gender or the language or even escallion herself in this post bc we will never ever leave). escallion is pretty neat, just the strongest baby in history or whatever, but then post-cold arriving and politely yoinking the saiyans into his empire, rumors start spreading that frieza miiiiight be wanting a saiyan under his personal command. no prizes for guessing whose palace he's looking at for pickings. obviously the only prince they've got is not someone they can afford to lose, but they need a sure bet on super-infants and can't afford hoping for a genetic bingo, so vegeta iii assembles the universe's swole-est scientists and has them get started on making the Coolest Baby Ever (by cloning him, the king, bc he's the strongest but also bc frieza is an asshole and likes playing mind games with people so let's be real he's taking one of the king's kids no matter how tough they are)
so vegeta iv gets made (and named inappropriately but that's frieza's fault and a story for another time so ignore it for now) and eventually tarble is born and almost immediately sent off just in case frieza decides to be a bigger dick than usual (spoilers: frieza is going to decide to be an even bigger dick than that), and vegeta gets to spend the first few years of his life with his dad, big sis, and not-mom until he gets shipped off to go be a child soldier/slave/distraction, at which point frieza goes ahead and blows up the planet. there's more to it than just that, but i may actually want to write it out some day, so i'll keep the rest to myself for now.
#dbz#i plan on drawing her at some point even if i'm also not much of an artist#but if you want to imagine it she looked a bit like vegeta did only with shorter hair and no bangs#so a little similar to the kid!vegeta redesign in dbs: broly#i plan to draw her and vegeta sparring if i can ever figure out how#i agree with you about goku and the saiyans although i actually think that could work if done very well#i have a very specific scene in my head it's just not connected to a broader story#like in my head it's goku regaining memories of his parents/mom just before he finds out who told frieza to go nuke planet vegeta#but he doesn't find out as goku he finds out when he and vegeta are gogeta (for whatever reason)#cue gogeta going absolutely nuts on beerus while the gang (understandably) assumes it's vegeta's influence#gogeta wins but vegeta manages to forcefully end to fusion (spirit fission woooo!!!!) just in time to keep goku from killing beerus#bc he knows goku would never forgive himself but also bc he refuses to let kakarot use his (vegeta's) own rage to do something he'll regret#then we find out that vegeta actually already knew about that bc piccolo told him after hearing whis comment on it#and he didn't do anything bc obeying the insanely powerful guy who destroyed his home and could kill him is something he's familiar with#plot twist he's been quietly having flashbacks in the background the whole time whoops#anyway there's no greater story for that one hopefully beerus just. idk grows as a person? finds a way to kill zeno? no idea

(Note: The following post is a random outline of ideas I made to slightly readjust certain aspects of both the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc of the Dragon Ball Super Manga.)
So for the past 2-3 years, I’ve sometimes been reading up on the DBS manga since I found out about the Moro arc due to various YouTubers such as Totally Not Mark and UnrealEntGaming. But since I started later in the arc, I watched their videos to catch up, and then read the chapters that came out on Viz.
In my opinion, the arc was good out of anything in Super, but still it had its bits of sloppy writing and questioning character moments.
*cough* senzu bean *cough*
So, naturally, my brain came up with fixes for them that don’t alter the entire arc, but rather in ways that improved the story while sticking roughly to what we have in canon. Also, this isn’t supposed a criticism of Moro, it’s a fun and mostly creative writing exercise by rewriting the manga.
With that said: Here we go.
The Beginning:
Still takes place after DBS: Broly and starts with the 2 saiyans training.
Goku is unable to use UI since the Tournament of Power.
Mr. Satan calls about Majin Buu’s kidnapping, thus Goku and Vegeta teleport to stop them.
Merus defeats them and takes them to the Galactic Patrol.
Explanation of Moro and Grand Supreme Kai to Goku and Vegeta.
Everything from the Saiyans joining the patrol to getting their asses whooped on New Namek plays out the same.
Moro’s third wish on the Dragon Balls is the same, but it’s not played out as a dramatic plot twist this time.
Goku returns with the patrol
Vegeta ponders over the skill and potential techniques wield in battle, and decides to go to Yardrat in order to fight fire with fire with Moro as his top priority
The Preparations:
The now-escaped prisoners are collecting planets for Moro to devour.
Goku trains with Merus as original in canon.
Earth is now a target for Moro.
Vegeta arrives on Yardrat; The line about Goku defeating the Ginyus on the planet is cut.
Vegeta now learns under Elder Pybara to learn Spirit Control, the way of manipulating spiritual energy to harvest a plethora of techniques.
Piccolo Vs. The Macareni Gang remains.
While Merus trains Goku, he talks about Ultra Instinct.
In this version, Ultra Instinct is described as one needing emotional stability. Whether you’re enraged, joyful, melancholic, or prideful, UI required the balance between internal emotions and external movements (Mind and Body) to fight to your fullest; You can’t let any one of the two sides grow dominant and hinder that balance. (This is something to come up later in the Granola Arc).
Goku tells Merus about the HTC on Earth, but the officer assures him that training where they are will be just as efficient as on Earth.
Earth Z-Fighters Vs. Android 73, Yunba, and Jeramecha plays out the same. 2 months until Moro arrives.
Merus’ true identity is revealed and Vegeta continues training. Moro senses Vegeta’s new strength and grows excited to fight him again.
Whis interferes to prevent his brother from going all out.
The Battle On Earth:
Plays out the same until Goku arrives.
When Goku activates UI Sign and fights Moro, this state is something that’s not used at free will yet. Goku is sustaining the Mind-Body balance enough to which it allows him to stand a chance.
The reason for Pybara being unable to teleport to Earth is only because Goku has divine Ki active.
Moro powers up and defeats Goku who breaks the UI balance due to focusing more on physical strength.
Vegeta locks onto Goku and teleports to Earth.
The line from Piccolo is altered to “Vegeta should never be one to underestimate someone like Moro.
Goku doesn’t know about Forced Spirit Fission in this version, and the explanation is revealed by Vegeta himself.
Moro, refusing to lose, kills Jeramecha and consumes 73.
Here’s a major change: Moro-73 is redesigned in order to keep his goat-like appearance, but still lets the reader knows that he’s absorbed the android. (Imagine a more muscular Moro with devilish horns, lines in the side of his face, and the Crystals on his hands and head.)
When Vegeta fights against Moro-73, he puts up more of a fight than in canon and gets a few hits, but the Saiyan prince is down for the count when the goat wizard copies him.
Moro copies Piccolo again to explain his regeneration.
Merus frees Dende, and fights Moro. Whis and Beerus get the healed Z-Fighters out of the conflict.
Goku flies towards Merus and attempts to fight Moro-73.
Merus states that Goku‘s training is complete and needs something to maintain control of himself; A final push you should say.
Merus destroys Moro’s crystals and gets erased.
Goku is saddened, enraged, and feels a bit of guilt knowing that he wasn’t able to finish the fight allowing Merus to live. He asks Jaco why Merus joined the Galactic Patrol, to which the officer replies.
The Saiyan starts to calm down, remembering the Angel’s teachings and goes on to merge his raw emotions and relaxed physicality and allows him to regain and a stronger/refined variation of Ultra Instinct Sign.
The Finale:
Goku wipes the floor with Moro
Completely remove the “Senzu Bean” and go straight to Moro breaking his arm punching Goku after the fight.
Moro finds out about Merus and his ability to use UI.
When the wizard copies Merus, he transforms as his hair begins to glow and levitate as his eyes are silver. (Implies that Moro is in UI Sign.)
Moro’s body eventually goes unstable and he merges with Earth.
Vegeta arrives in the nick of time to use Forced Spirit Fission to open up the head crystal.
Piccolo asks Vegeta if the prince can gather energy all in one place like the Spirit Bomb, and he replies with yes.
Vegeta goes up into the sky and prepares a technique nearly identical to the Spirit Bomb, Uub’s divine energy completing the bomb.
Gohan and Piccolo gets Goku out of Moro’s grip, and while Vegeta launches the Spirit Bomb at Moro’s crystal, finishing off the prisoner once and for all.
Berus and Supreme Kai plays as horses with the two Zenos as their punishment.
An award ceremony happens, but Merus is not present in this version, but the Grand Priest still has plans to restore Merus as a mortal and this is told to only Beerus and Whis.
And so the universe has once again been saved, and peace continues to thrive…right??
End of The Moro Arc.
That concludes my rough retelling of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc, with some changes I made that I thought might suit the story a bit better than we got from canon.
What are your thoughts? Do you guys have anything you’d like to add? Do you think I should continue this with the Granola Arc? Feel free to like, reblog, and/or comment.
Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!

I think I may have talked about this before, but I really hope that DBS: Broly sets a precedent for canonizing older, non-canon characters and plotpoints
That being said, I realized today that I don’t really want every single Dragon Ball movie to be rehashed into excuses for Goku to get stronger ad infinitum
Instead I think it would be cool if they were rehashed to be excuses for EVERYONE ELSE to get stronger!
It’s basically gotten to the point where Goku is incomparable to basically everyone else anyway, so when the “final” Dragon Ball villain finally shows up in the next X number of years, I think it would be good for the rest of the cast to be a bit more balanced with him. Sure, we know he’d still be the last one standing and would probably get another power-up to shoot ahead as always, but it would be a lot more engaging if the rest of the cast was at least able to put up a real fight. I don’t imagine they’d each be getting a movie, but I don’t want them to have super short OVAs either, so I think somewhere between 5 and 10 episodes each would do really well
So let’s say we bring back Dr. Wheelo from World’s Strongest; while it might be cool to get more scenes with Roshi, I don’t think we quite need the whole “stealing Roshi’s body” plotline anymore. Instead, we could use it as an excuse to bring back Android 13 using Dr. Wheelo as the impetus. From there, this plotline follows Krillin, 18 and 17 on a family trip, wherein we get to meet 17′s wife and children. Wheelo shows up with 13, maybe 14 and 15 too, trying to get 17 and 18 so he can use them to upgrade either his own robot body or further upgrade 13. After the group dispatches with 14 and 15, Wheelo has 13 upgrade himself into Super Android 13 with their cores like in the film; this necessitates that 17 and 18 get stronger by also finding a way to become Super Androids, which also ties in and canonizes certain aspects of the Super 17 Arc from GT. At the same time, Krillin is also finding a way to upgrade himself, leaving him to beat Wheelo while Super 17 and 18 beat Super 13
Lord Slug gets repurposed as specifically a Piccolo villain and showcases a new Namekian transformation, perhaps the armored form seen in Dragon Ball Heroes; in order for Piccolo to defeat Slug, he needs to also access this armored form. It’s been stated that in order for Piccolo to fully regain the power of the Nameless Namekian he would need to reabsorb King Piccolo and allow evil back into his heart. The need to attain the armored form may be what prompts him to bring back King Piccolo’s soul and absorb it, with the major character arc of the film being Piccolo confronting the villain he used to be and finally overcoming it once and for all. Garlic Jr. could also serve this same purpose, and I actually think it would be interesting for Garlic Jr. and Slug to somehow team up, but I also think it would be better if it were a bit more focused and only chose one.
Turles could be repurposed as a Universe 6 Saiyan, giving him an opportunity to be redesigned to look less like Goku so as not to overlap with Goku Black. Vegeta finally makes good on his promise to visit Planet Sadala and decides to bring his family with him so that Trunks can be closer to his heritage. Goten either sneaks aboard or Vegeta allows him to come with because he thinks it’s an opportunity he’d never get from Goku. After taking in the Saiyan culture and giving Vegeta some time to reflect on how things could or should have been for him and his race and family, the plot shifts to Turles betraying Sadala, possibly under Frost’s orders, and attempting to drain it with the Tree of Might. Because he’s draining the Saiyans and not Earthlings, he gets a massive powerup that far outstrips what he got in the original film, allowing him to easily dispatch with Cabba, Caulifla and Kale. This in turn requires either Vegeta fight him with the powers he’s currently learning from Beerus in the manga or Trunks and Goten gain a power up as Gotenks. I do think that Turles would be better served as a Vegeta villain specifically in this case, as while I think Goten and Trunks need more development, Vegeta definitely deserves to have a story where he’s the hero
Tapion and Hirudegarn could easily provide Trunks with the development that he’d otherwise be getting from Turles, repurposing the sibling relationship he developed with Tapion in Wrath of the Dragon to have a bit more of a lasting impact (actually forcing Trunks to be confronted with the choice of killing Tapion rather than just having Hirudegarn escape from Tapion’s body before Trunks does anything as just one example). This would not only build up Trunks’ character, but would give him a really easy powerup in the form of Tapion’s Brave Sword
Garlic Jr., if not a Piccolo villain, could then in turn be a Goten villain, as Garlic Jr. was previously always defeated by child Gohan. Goten could be confronted with Garlic Jr. while Trunks is busy with Hirudegarn, forcing Goten to fight without relying on fusion and ultimately finding his own way of fighting that’s distinct from Goku’s ever-evolving Super Saiyan forms and Gohan’s Potential Unleashed. This would also make it even more impactful when Goten and Trunks reunite into Gotenks later in a bigger final battle
Bojack would then return as Gohan’s villain, but this time Gohan would have Videl with him (who would also be given an opportunity to improve her skills), as well as a slightly older Pan who may exhibit the same kind of untapped strength as Gohan did at her age. Gohan would either find some way to surpass Potential Unleashed to defeat Bojack or would specifically be able to beat him because his family is there fighting with him. Perhaps something like “Bonds Unleashed,” wherein Gohan exceeds his potential through the power of his love for his family or something silly like that? It’d also be a good chance to revisit Bojack’s team and develop them a bit more, especially fan-favorite Zangya
Cooler could give us a chance to develop Frieza on his own a bit, allowing him to finally reach the Fifth Form and subsequently combine it with the Golden Form while also exploring the culture of Frieza’s species, or at least the dynamics within his family as galactic conquerors
Janemba doesn’t really have anyone in particular aside from Goku and Vegeta that he would make a ton of sense to be a villain for, but given how frequently Janemba is compared to Buu, I could see him being a way for Buu and Uub to team up, fully reintroducing Uub and giving us a way for Buu to level up, maybe somehow channeling his Super or Kid forms in a more constructive way
Baby of course would be a way to reintroduce Super Saiyan 4, but seeing as he’s a Tuffle Machine Mutant, I could definitely see him coming into conflict with Broly as a way to get Broly up to Legendary Super Saiyan 2 or beyond. That said, Broly’s probably going to be brought back long before they rehash Baby, I just think that would be really interesting, especially since Legendary Super Saiyan is such a similar concept to Super Saiyan 4 (going Super Saiyan while in a pseudo-Great Ape state as opposed to going Super Saiyan while actually in Great Ape). My main problem is that I’m not sure how SS4 can be introduced at this point since it might conflict with SSG and SSB, but that’s an issue for the writers. I also don’t think it’d necessarily be good to have Baby remove Vegeta from the plot by possessing him like in GT, so maybe Baby’s Saiyan body should be a Universe 6 Saiyan. Perhaps Cabba would be a good candidate, since he’s pretty clearly far weaker than Caulifla and Kale, so it might lead to some good development for him
Finally, the Shadow Dragons would be a good way to tie everyone back together, with each of them (barring Frieza, probably) taking on a different Shadow Dragon using what they’ve learned; since I couldn’t find a place for Tien or Yamcha, perhaps they can team up to beat any of the Shadow Dragons that the others don’t get to. I don’t think it would be good to end things on a repurposed villain, so of course Omega Shenron wouldn’t be the final Dragon Ball villain this time around, but perhaps this would be where Goku finalizes and masters whatever abilities he’ll be using against the true final villain
I don’t know if other people would like this as much as I would, I just think it’d be really cool to revisit all of these characters and concepts, tweak their designs a bit and also give the extended cast a way to powerup and get closer to Goku’s level. Probably won’t happen, but I’d personally love to see it

OC Redesignings
After a chat with someone I sometimes RP with I came to the realisation that I’ve been using a canon character (Caulifla) design (facial features/body) a bit much, Caulifla’s design is okay and I guess I was inspired by it so used her facial features & body for my own OC Gem. I realise that I could probably get away with using the design for 1 character but more then once is a bit too much and I’ve only realised that now, gonna redesign some of my OCs and look at other animes/mangas/video games for inspiration and even doodle some designs (I suck at drawing) to see if I can make something original.
Thanks to the person who made me aware of it, much appreciated.
Characters: Yam will get a new facial design as will Leek and Gem/Tre will get a slight redesign (face: eyes/jaw/etc) and body structure and Tre will get a completely different personality as she’s a tad bit too similar to Kale in some ways.
Not so much an excuse but I guess I could say Gem is to Caulifla what Turles is to Goku, two beings who share features (face and body) but are the exact opposites - its not uncommon for some Saiyans to look similar as some low-class Saiyans facial patterns are similar just because their low-level and in DBS: Broly the character Nion (Female Saiyan Scientist) shares similarities (face, hairstyle, outfit, etc) with 9 of her fellow-female Saiyans (9 lol) but maybe theres a reason for that (clones or Tuffle-Saiyan Hybrid?)
@sweetescapeartist is being cool enough to give me some advice and point me in the direction on how to make an OC and such, thanks again for that.

Draw Fanart Of A Character Meme: DBS Broly / Brokk
I did the meme! I pretty much used Tarzan and Conan the Barbarian to create Brokk, basically DBS Broly, but redesigned and unrelated to Paragus and the Legendary SSJ because there's only one Broly, the one from Z. I personally kind of like the original design, but my peeve is that, compared to Z Broly, it's a downgrade, for he looks way more generic, exactly like one of those background Saiyan characters who are there to be killed off (also the same issue I had with Gine), thus I decided to revamp DBS Broly and turn him into a different character in my AU, to make him no longer be under Z's shadow. Dragon Ball franchise, Broly © Akira Toriyama. Brokk, design and art © Me. Meme template © TAGASAING.

Okay, just got back from the Broly movie, here are some of my thoughts. Spoilers ahead
I really enjoyed the beginning of the film with King Cold retiring and giving command over to Freeza. I also liked how Saiyans had...snipers and stuff trained on Freeza and King Cold. I thought that was a cool touch.
King Vegeta’s dub voice is AWFUL. I know it’s Chris Sabat but it was somehow even worse than how Vegeta usually sounds. He sounded like he had some gunk in his throat. I disliked most of the dub in the movie actually and it sucks that Broly is voiced by a piece of shit in real life.
Gine is great and amazing and I love her.
Raditz had a widow’s peak as a child and that’s a travesty. He was also a little piece of shit and this movie did nothing to make me like him.
There’s a scene that transitions and does a fast forward of all of Dragon Ball/DBZ while a remix of Cha La Head Cha La played and I just about cried.
The animation/art style of the movie is beautiful. I liked the look of it a whole lot, except for the CGI parts, which looked bad.
The movie was generally pretty funny.
The character designs in this were all pretty great. I’ve whined a lot how Super had a lot of generic and/or boring alien designs (Hit, Jiren, etc.), but most of the alien designs in this movie were great. Cheelai (sp?) was really cute, the old guy she hung with was cool lookin, Beriblu is probably one of my favorite DB villain designs in a LONG time and etc. I just really enjoyed the look of the world and characters. The designs made everything feel more fleshed out.
And of course Broly. What a goddamn good redesign, both visually and from a story aspect. I can honestly say that I now LOVE Broly. He’s endearing and kind and also has a huge goddamn chest. I loved his backstory about befriending the huge monster thing and wearing its ear pelt as a memory of their friendship. I found that really, really cute. I also like Cheelai and Broly’s little relationship. Honestly, I want more of that and less of the fighting
Which brings me to the fights. They were alright. Well animated and visual spectacles, but there wasn’t much to them. There were some really cool moments mostly at the beginning of the fight, but by the time it got to the end, it was just a laser light show and kind of boring. The fights were well done though and they carried a sense of weight and power to them, they just weren’t that interesting to watch.
ALSO, there was some really weird fanservice-y shots of Cheelai. There was one scene where they focused on her ass from like 3 different camera angles and another one where she like kind of stretches out her chest armor and...it was just weird and gross and felt wildly out of place.
Gohan was nowhere to be seen in the movie, not even a little bit. That sucks, that will always suck, but also, almost no one from the main cast was in this movie except Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo and Bulma. Trunks and Goten make tiny appearances, but that’s it.
There were some other things that I’ll probably write about at length later that bothered me, but it’s less to do with the movie and more with the implications of Freeza still being alive.
Anyways, it was a B+. Needed more Broly interacting with Cheelai and Lemo and being like Tarzan and less explode-y fights.

Ending of dragon ball super: Broly REVEALED
Tumblr media
Dbs: Broly, wow this movie seems like it’s going to be legit. The animation in the trailer was top notch. The redesigning of the characters was perfect and Broly’s legendary form was just too good to be real. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the trailer; I was like hoooooooly crap is this fanfic. Now the thing that bothers me is that how the hell Goku and Vegeta will beat Broly if super saiyan blue was struggling with base form Broly. In the trailer Broly transforms into the legendary super saiyan which looked like the strongest crap I have seen so far in the dragon ball universe, under the angels obviously. But it really got me thinking how Goku and Vegeta will defeat Broly. I mean ssb won’t do anything to Broly in lssg. And this isn’t infinity war where the good guys lose. So how about Goku going ultra instinct. So ultra instinct isn’t invincible as we see with goku's fight with jiren. Not only does it put strain on the body but it’s not very powerful. Its more technique based. To beat Broly who has been confirmed to be goku’s strongest foe yet by the creators, they’ll need an ace in the hole and in the words of the joker: mine’s Harvey dent, ok just kidding. What I’m trying to say is that. Vegeta has recently got a form which allows him to transcend all the qualities of ssb and gives him more power and ki control. Wait a minute isn’t that the exact opposite of ultra instinct. Power and ki control vs. technique and speed. Wait so is it possible that Goku up can fuse with Vegeta super saiyan blue evolution to form ultra blue evolution gogeta. I know right, sounds crazy but bear with me for I have proof. So why gogeta and not vegito. Because the potara earrings are with the kais and they aren’t here on earth. Also since akira is making one character canon why not make two, well three including paragus.  We already know gogeta is a serious character unlike vegito and can end fights quickly, similar to what we saw against janemba. So this fusion might be used in the climax of the movie when everyone is beaten and battered. Just a way to quickly resolve things with an epic fight. Think about it, not only will this make ultra instinct last longer but make it stronger. It’s just too perfect of an explanation. I hope you can see this the way I see it. Please don’t forget to like share reblog follow and if you see any ads just click because it takes just a few seconds to click it, let it load and close it

heiroflight413 replied to your post “the redesign is just such an example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix...”
I'm gonna hold out hope for "It looks better animated" like was the case with UI. I'm not sure how, but DBS ended on enough of a hot streak to earn it the benefit of the doubt for something like this
I could get used to it, I guess.  If he does something really awesome while he’s wearing that getup, it’d help redeem the redesign.
As it stands, though, it feels like they went too far.   They picked Broly because he was so popular, so why tinker around with such a popular character?  They’ll have to mess with his backstory no matter what, and I can understand modifying his visual to help distinguish him from 90′s Broly, but overhauling his costume seems counterproductive.
I don’t know, it’d be like bringing back Sailor Moon after a long hiatus, and suddenly she’s wearing a black ninja costume.   That might even be pretty cool if they handled it right, but it’s not what people expected from the character.
But you’re right, Ultra Instinct looked really dumb in still images, because Goku with silver hair was the most hokey, fan-arty, Dragon Ball AF-y thing they could have done.   It wasn’t until he started doing bullet-time effects and the cool theme music revved up that it became awesome.
