Let’s face it. 2022 was a challenging year for LBGTQ rights not just in America but around the world. From Governors making it illegal to talk about Queer and Trans or offer support to Queer and Trans students all the way to taking Trans children away from affirming families. Making Trans healthcare harder to downright impossible to obtain. And just in part making lives for many Queer and Trans youth difficult if not impossible.
For a long time many Queer and Trans youth have found solace in fandom spaces. Whether is for tv shows, movies, books, comics and manga, and more. In these spaces they aren’t just a queer or trans kid. They are either a great artist or an amazing fanfic writer or an talented Cosplayer.
Fandom can be Inclusive and Queer! That’s what we are here for today. We are here to announce the creation of the “No Bait Just Queer” charity fanzine this year.
No Bait Just Queer is a multi fandom fanzine full of Fanart Fanfics and amazing cosplays serving the following fandoms
RWBY
Miraculous Ladybug
DC Universe
The Owl House
Hazbin Hotel
Helluva Boss
Haikyuu
The Legend of Vox Machina
Our Flag Means Death
HeartStopper
SK8 The Infinity
Genshin Impact
My Hero Academia
Jujutsu Kaisen
Cyberpunk Edgerunners
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Steven Universe Yu Yu Hauksho Yu-Gi-Oh!
Avatar The Last Airbender
The Legend of Korra
And many more
Over the next few days, we will be launching interest checks for Artists, Writers, Cosplayers and moderators.

Creator Spotlight || Raven/ Lena Gantner @ravendraculina
Raven has been an amazing and talented addition to our team. One of the first collaborators to join up, they have brought and incredible and unique talent to the table with a truly inspiring interest in teamwork.
Lena Gatner (also known as Raven online) is an illustrator/Graphic Designer from a small town in America! With four years of experience as a digital illustrator and designer specializing in comic book art, they bring a spunky and passionate approach to their work. Their designs are quirky, fun, and beautiful, with their bright, colorful, and out-of-this-world aesthetics. Proficient in various illustration techniques, both digital and traditional, they have an incredible ability to conceptualize and bring imaginative ideas to life.
Tumblr media
So who are you, Lena? Tell us a bit about yourself!
I am a recent graduate from Uni and have been an active member of my QSA (queer straight alliance) Club as the event coordinator. I was in leadership during the Hight of covid and towards the end when the slate of hate within my state was in full effect. I worked hard to keep the queer community in my area safe and be able to participate in radical events! I reconnected the club with local queer community such as the sex shop and the local countship! Creating a strong foundation for future success and strength within the club no matter what difficult event happens (Such as existing in a red state). I am both a member of a lgbtq+ community but also part of the autism spectrum. Not only has this shaped my life but also the work I create. I care deeply about activism and I am also a passion artist with a love of comics. Part of my studies was studying comic book textures and vintage styles. My proudest work is my senior thesis where I mimicked vintage comic book style. This will always be my proudest spread despite the critics!
Tumblr media
That's amazing! What draws you to comics? How have they impacted you and/or your art?
My personal greatest inspiration since I was young, will always be Kevin Conroy. The Batman Animated series and Justice League animated will be the animation series that drew me into comics. Within comics exists people who fight for a better world no matter the obstacle. To be the change to bring the better world. These figures helped shaped the person who I am and leads me to a lot of comfort for when I feel weak. Kevin Conroy will always be a source of inspiration for my self on how media can impact others. He will always be my Batman, a symbol of Justice when you feel like you live in a world with none. Wonder woman will always be my Ambassador of Peace, bring peace to the world ridden with war and hate. While Superman will always be my symbol of Hope, to hope for something better.
Can you give us a little hint about what you're working on for the Pride Special?
I am working with amazing writer hankenstein for an incredible mini comic and illustrating a pin up page! The Comic will deal with three generations of queer characters coming together and fight baddies! These characters include cult classic The Shadow, Ghostmaker and the Ray! Three incredible characters in a incredible story. For my pin up page I wanted to draw two characters who mean a lot to me Tim Drake and Conner Kent. Referencing a classic interaction between them which fueled years of queer coding and left a lasting impact on queer comic book fans!
We'll give you a taste of this comic as well as other amazing stories and art in the upcoming weeks -- so stay tuned!! We are SO excited to have Raven on board and can't wait to show you more!
You can check out more of Raven's work here, and if you're just as excited to see their work, consider buying them a coffee!

Creator Spotlight || Brian Carter @eggos-esper
Brian is a wonderful collaborator on this project who has been extremely flexible and adaptable, always ready to lend a hand and his considerable skill where needed. His talent and passion have been an invaluable addition to our team!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brian Carter is an artist based in Rochester, NY. They graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2022 in with a BFA in Cartooning.
Brian draws inspiration from people he’s come to know and the natural environment, though mainly related to the science-fiction, horror, and fantasy genres. When he’s not drawing, Brian loves to read manga and comics, go hiking, do karate, and catch up on some good A24 flicks.
So, Brian! Tell us all about you!
I went to a public high school specializing in visual arts, and kept that up by going to SVA in New York for Cartooning (comics). I’ve been heavily inspired by marvel and dc when I was a kid and up to art school, but halfway through my education, I switched to being more compelled by horror comics and manga. Nowadays I try to unify all three in my current style as best I can. My favorite work has to be some of my fanart for Jujutsu Kaisen, a few Resident Evil zine submissions, my senior portfolio comic, and three different self portraits I’ve done for an art show the past three years.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Incredible work! What draws you to comics and manga? How have they impacted you and/or your art?
I really got into comics when I was a kid reading Spider-Man and Batman. Superheroes really excited me, but as I’ve grown, I’ve also gotten into indie comics and stories without superpowers at all. Comics is a medium that transcends so many things and in so many ways - it’s a joy to experience them. Comics with experimental art and different genres interest me. Namely, manga like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man in how they visually apply their storytelling, or Saga and Paper Girls in their world building potential.
Can you give us a little hint about what you're working on for the Pride Special?
I can’t say too much, but I’m doing a small comic about a new lgbtq+ hero from the last couple years that is quite the character. And I’m also working on a page illustration of an underrated DC couple just chilling at home.
We'll give you a taste of this comic as well as other amazing stories and art in the upcoming weeks -- so stay tuned!! We are SO excited to have Raven on board and can't wait to show you more!
You can check out more of Brian's art here!

Creator Spotlight || Henry J. @clockheartedcrocodile
Henry is a skilled writer and fantastic collaborator who has brought THREE different scripts to our Pride Special, dedicating his amazing talent to each and every one of them.
Henry has been quick to step up, fun to collaborate with and just as excited about this project as I am! His grasp of the characters he writes is incredibly strong and his writing is evocative and captivating. In his own words, Henry J. is a gay trans guy, an overwhelmed grad student, and a huge DC comics nerd! He currently lives in New England with his friends and loved ones.
Tell us a bit about yourself, Henry!
I’ve been writing fanfiction for years, ever since I was a teenager, and am currently (slowly) working on a sci-fi novel set during the Napoleonic wars. Maybe one day, I’ll find the time to finish it! Currently I’m a grad student aiming for an MLIS in digital archiving. Between that and my other creative writing hobbies, I’m kept pretty busy! I’m enormously proud of all of my work, but one of my particular favorites is this one in which I translated a full episode of Black Sails into Shakespearean verse. The dialogue in that show just lends itself so well to iambic pentameter!
What a cool project! So what draws you to comics? How have they impacted you and/or your writing?
The allure of comics, particularly DC comics (at least for me) is that there’s this big, sprawling, incomprehensible mythology to it. Each character has been written, drawn, and read by so many different people that they become these strange, confusing amalgamations of all these different facets of themselves. My Lex Luthor and your Lex Luthor are so different from each other, they might as well be two different characters, yet they’re both still, undeniably, Lex Luthor. No other storytelling medium has this kind of flexibility.
Can you give us a little hint about what you're working on for the Pride Special?
I’ve written several comics for this zine, and I’m insanely excited about all of them! As a huge fan of the Flash, being able to write a short comic for Captain Cold and the Rogues was an absolute dream. I’ve also written an interactive adventure for Xanthe- a nonbinary newcomer to the DC world- and an intimate, heavier piece about queer experiences, featuring The Ray, Ghost-Maker, and The Shadow.
We'll give you a taste of Henry's work as well as other amazing stories soon!! Thanks again to Henry J for being such an incredible collaborator and writer!
You can check out more of Henry's work here!
