So, when looking at the website and looking at the galleries, I found an old marker piece I had done of Swift Star, and seeing it was done about two years ago, I thought I'd try redrawing it, since my style has changed a bit since then. There was also the fact that I had to buy a new dark grey marker because I use dark grey for black and, well, I used up my old one, and I needed to, you know, test it. :P

Swift Star turned out well. The dark grey marker is a little stiffer than I'm used to, but it's fine. It does it's job. I sort of forgot it was a grey and ended up darkening it on Swift Star's pants before remembering, lol. But she looks fine! I like her. I even like the little light I gave her.

BUT THEN I got to thinking, since Swift Star turned out so nice, why not do others? So I did Matrix next, and he turned out great, so the next logical step is going ahead and doing the other two main characters, Dead Volt and Cosmic Moon.

The current behind Matrix is actually how I see the electrical currents that he sees - I have no idea why I see them as blue, but there you go. Dead Volt is holding a bubble of his power canceling power, although it's nothing actually visible. And lol, I accidentally inked the sword Cosmic Moon is holding rather than keep it lined with pencil to give it an intangible feeling like the others, but oh well. Her's is a bit more solid than the others, after all.

Over all, these were fun to do. I always forget how fun marker colored pieces are until I do a bunch of them, lol.

The X-Files revival seasons suffer from all such attempts at millennial nostalgia, which is that it's just depressing. It's fifteen years later, and in order for the premise of the original series to be revived, our heroes have to have learned nothing, done nothing, not even moved on with their lives. Heck, even the opening is back to the season 1-7 original, and Scully is back to playing the arch-skeptic despite the fact that she spent nigh on a decade tracking down flukemen and arresting liver-eating mutants. And worse, Carter has to confront the realities of the Obama years, just before the appearance of Donald Trump, and he doesn't like what he sees--we can't pretend anymore that conspiracies are apolitical fun, that he wasn't tapping into (and reinforcing) a dark reactionary vein in 90s culture that came back with an ugly vengeance in the 2010s, that Mulder wouldn't be a 9/11 conspiracy theorist Bernie-Trump voter whose brain is hollowed out by YouTube and social media. He has to address all that, or try to, and because the myth arc episodes were always the weakest part of the original show (and, you know, the world didn't actually end due to alien invasion in 2012, and it would be unsatisfying as hell for the explanation for that to be "Mulder saved the world offscreen"), this all feels like useless flailing.

My housemate and I woke up this morning to two of our six smoke detectors complaining about their batteries. I found one 9V in the drawer, but the "best by" date (which I didn't realize batteries HAD but I guess it makes sense) was from earlier this year.

Housemate wasn't sure if it would still work. I said "well, let's see" and stuck the contacts of the battery to my tongue, as one does. Or, at least, as I thought one does, because Housemate recoiled in shock and horror. Apparently, she has never seen anyone check a battery for viability like that.

I just remembered about your Manny dakimakura so I think you're going to have a fun response to my actual hot take: people who say MvK doesn't fuck are COWARDS. He's likely rich, he's canonically pretty powerful (like he does whatever the fuck he wants with that courtroom) - regardless of how he looks, there are people who will go for that. And just because he looks like a decrepit vampire 20 years older than his age now, doesn't mean we know how he looked in his 20s-30s - I know a couple artists who make a VERY good case regarding that... so anyway. Here's my "hot" take :P :P :P

I forgot to say about how in psychology the other day we were looking at this experiment where people would give a person life threatening shocks to others if they were told to do so by an authority figure and I was thinking noctem alliance thoughts

Picturing a younger Demily as a low-ranking, powerless imp. She's more like a stray animal than a person at this point.

Around the year 2000, she breaks into a house in the dead of night, looking for food. Scrambling around in the kitchen, her eyes are drawn to a glow from another room. Some children are playing with a Playstation on a big CRT TV. She waits until the children leave the room and slowly, cautiously approaches the screen. The light reflects stark white on her face in the dark room. Her eyes are wide as she stares at the image. Not quite comprehending. Amazed. Picking up the controller, she fiddles with it, not sure how to work it. She saw the children messing with it, but she doesn't know where to go from there. She gnaws on it a little, exposing some of the wiring. Her eyes lock on the "start" button. Still holding the controller between her teeth, she presses the button. A blinding light envelops the room.

A power surge sends ten thousand volts hurtling through Demily's body. Her hair stands on end. The electricity writhes across her skin, then shoots out from her head and back. It takes the shape of large, curved horns, and a pair of dark wings. She grows bigger. If before she was the size of a cat, now she's the size of a preteen. The nails on her grabby little fingers elongate and turn into claws. Her pointed tail rips a hole in a pillow. A mouth full of sharp teeth releases the broken controller. A plume of flame comes bursting out after.

An imp's biology is weird. They can draw strength from all kinds of places, though knowing what any particular imp has an affinity for is hard to nail down. An imp can search all her life for the "core" power source she needs to develop into a full-fledged demon.

When the family runs into the room, having heard the commotion, Demily is gone. The TV screen has shattered, as has the window, and the Playstation the game was running on has disappeared. The carpet is blackened, as if lightly charred. So is the ceiling. The children cry. The parents swear under their breath.
