As a shallow, low-brow person who enjoys the satisfaction of eating from the good old cliche cake of karmic retribution, Death of Optimus Prime makes me distinctly uncomfortable in a way that excessive depictions of gore/body horror/violence/abuse does not. I think it’s the underlying moral of the entire thing that gets to me: the implication that no good deed goes unpunished, that those who chose to flee in times of need are entitled to mock the sacrifices of those who chose to stand and fight while enjoying the world they made possible. The irrationality of the motley crowd. The heartless apathy of the people. The desperation for peace trumping the need for justice.
The main thing I got out of this issue is that… it isn’t worth it. The altruism. The ideals. You can give and give until every last vestige of your life is bled dry and there will still always be people who stand gorging on the sustenance of your flesh while pointing their fingers and saying “well we didn’t ask you to. Maybe it would have been better if you didn’t. Why didn’t you do better? Why didn’t you do more?”
Like it’s not enough to sacrifice the Matrix, it’s not enough to sacrifice your life, it’s not enough to sacrifice everything and have those sacrifices be unrecognized and scorned by the very people you made the sacrifice for, they’d make you give up your identity as well, your name, your position, and then finally your right to exist within the world you won back; they’d take and take until you have nothing left to give and it still won’t be enough, it’ll always be you are just as bad, because how dare you inconvenience our lives by having the audacity to stand up against evil. While conveniently disregarding the fact that everyone’d all be living (or dying) under the Decepticons’ lovely governance if the Autobots didn’t fight back. Or as part of Zeta’s vamparc ribbon. Or under the functionalists hoping their alt-modes never get booted into the obsolete category. It’s like the fucking Giving Tree except at least the boy has a better attitude towards the tree.
I don’t disagree with the NAILs’ standpoint as a concept, it’s interesting and does add depth to the story, but the way it’s treated is. um. rubs me in every wrong way possible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like. this is no. Just no. It's one thing for the NAILs and Decepticons to want Optimus gone; they have their own interests. Their motivations, while ignoble, are still understandable. But for Bumblebee to agree? To the point where he’d even exile Optimus himself if he didn’t want to leave? Bumblebee. Bumblebee, conscience of the Autobots. Bumblebee, whose kindness is so all-encompassing that he can find compassion for even Megatron and Starscream. Bumble-I-owe-Prime-everything-bee.
“Tonight for the first time all Cybertronians are united” wtf. This is wrong on so many levels. Optimus led you through the war. He led you to the victory of the war. Without his military leadership you wouldn’t be standing there worrying about keeping peace in the first place, because there would not be any peace to keep. Unless you’re interested in living under peace through tyranny. And you’re just going to throw him out now that he’s filled his purpose, because your enemies and dissenters are united in wanting him get thrown out. He’s guilty of what. exactly. existing?
Talk about appeasement. Talk about using someone as a means to an end. Even the Scavengers are better than that they didn't give up Grimlock. This isn’t how you treat someone that you owe a debt of gratitude to. This isn’t how you treat a friend, nor a comrade. This isn’t how a loyal soldier treats his leader. This isn’t how a decent person treats another person, period.
Then there’s the whole subsequent plot line where Starscream gets to be the leader of Cybertron. Is that some sort of political vent or. What’s it supposed to imply? That the masses are mindless and easily manipulated. Elections are bad. People can’t be trusted with democracy cuz they’re stupid and selfish. Deceit and manipulation are not only more effective than brute might but also triumphs over genuine intent. And the good guys just. rolls along with it. Then gets backstabbed a bajillion times. Then still keep rolling along after getting backstabbed a bajillion times. Like why. What did you expect. What’s the point of fighting for so many years if you’re so desperate for peace that you don’t even care what kind of person is ruling you? Ruling your home, your planet, your compatriots? Your comrades? Did all those Autobots who died during the war just. die for nothing. Why didn’t you just surrender to Megatron when he first offered then. Why not simply kept your heads down and accept Sentinel. Zeta. The functionalists. At least less people would have died that way.
It’s not even a matter of oh everyone is a war criminal there’s no victors in war everything’s morally grey and complicated or any of that twisted contrived grimdark shit. It’s a lack of common sense. Trusting the SIC of your enemy faction who’s a known mass murderer/notoriously famous backstabber once is giving someone the benefit of the doubt. Continuing to allow him to rule your planet after getting backstabbed betrayed sabotaged almost-killed multiple times is stupidity. It’s enablement. Complacency. Since when did everyone decide that the best method of dealing with a self-serving entitled prick who lied and killed and manipulated his way up to dictatorship under a farce of democracy and faked 'god-chosen’ bullshit is to leave him in charge and wait for him to develop a conscience.
And then the perspective of the colonists. “Look what your wars, hatreds, and ambitions have brought us,” they said. “You’re all gross. Why can’t you just stop fighting?” Easy words, from people who lived the majority of their lives in relative peace and ease. From those who had the privilege of growing up knowing no deaths, no functionalism, no crushing stratification. As if Cybertron hadn’t been led astray from the beginning by Shockwave and locked into an endless cycle of violence and oppression ever since the dawn of its civilization. As if Cybertronians ever got a chance at a peaceful fulfilling life. Four million years of war is horrific. But where would the Cybertronians be, if the war never happened? Oh right cowering under the functionalists. What if there were no functionalists? Then it’s Nova Sentinel Zeta. What if the Autobots didn’t fight?  Peace through tyranny and a universe wiped free of organic lifeforms. From the moment they opened their eyes, each and every Cybertronian from the time of Onyx Prime to the last constructed MTO has been cast into a dystopia so deeply entrenched as to be inescapable. It’s suffering all around. What other choices did they have?
Tumblr media
So speaketh the colonist, built on the back of Cybertronian expansion. Which is funny because Unicron is literally a product of colonialism.
Tumblr media
The story seems to imply in so many ways that war is an inherent crime in and of itself. It doesn’t matter who initiated it. It doesn’t matter if you were the aggressor or the defensive or forced into it as a last resort. It doesn’t matter who or what you were fighting for. It doesn’t matter that you tried your best to remain true to your ideals through so many long years of violence under impossible conditions. To the eyes of the lofty outsider, the apathetic bystander, simply participating makes you just as bad as the other side. It doesn’t matter how horrible the alternative would have been if you’d rolled over and didn’t resist. In the end everything fades into inconsequence; the only legacy left behind is destruction. Everyone is a killer.
But no actually. war doesn’t work like that. History doesn’t work like that. For those who's never experienced the circumstances firsthand, never suffered through the choices or the lack thereof, what right do they have to judge?

I used to talk about this a lot but
IDW Prowl is probably one of the most complex characters in the comics and I absolutely hate it when hes reduced down to “the asshole character”
Cause like
Yeah sure hes got a bit of a stick up his ass
But I feel like people just end there analysis of him there
Has he committed a lot of war crimes and done unethical stuff
Yes
But so has literally EVERYONE else in this universe
Starscream is literally the pinnacle of war crimes
The comics make a point calling out even Optimus for his questionable actions and orders during the war with the Dinobots saying he makes them do the dirty work for him
Megatron literally commits genocide and yet his story ends with an alternate version of him going free and exploring the universe with the LL
The literal war lord was treated better and is looked upon more positively than Prowl and I think it just came down to how fucked Prowl got by the writers
Because while Megatrons redemption was all in your face and you got a shit ton of flashbacks that try to justify the eventual atrocities he would commit you don’t get that with Prowl
Even when Prowl is absolutely in the right you constantly have it disregarded by characters making jokes about him overreacting (being mad OP is sending the space tyrant away with free reign of his own ship isn’t overreacting btw-) and as such you start to think of him as a genuinely irrational character when hes not
Prowl is bad at keeping the relationships he forms yes
But he is not always at fault for that
While his relationship with CD ended poorly Chromedome is also shown to be kinda of a dick sometimes and commits his fair share of fucked up things such as when he literally ATTACKS PROWL AND FORCES HIS WAY INTO HIS MIND TO PROTECT HIMSELF FROM THE CONSEQUENCE OF HIS ACTIONS WHEN PROWL THREATENS TO TELL REWIND ABOUT THE SHITTY STUFF HE DID IN HIS PAST
This leads to Prowls inevitable snowball out of control when this attack leads to an opening for Bombshell (I think its been a while since I read the comics) to use his tech to mind control him forcing him into combining with the contructicons
Something we learn is an immensely intimate thing with their minds being kinda melded
This was something Prowl did not want
And when all was said and done and he was calmed down he still had to live with that gesalt he was forced into with them following him around like fanboys
Nobody ever even really stopped to check in on him
And as such he understandable went a little bit insane
He had just faced an immensely traumatic invasion of his body and mind and on top of stress form feeling like everything was out of his control and like he couldn’t stop the bad things from happening alongside bitter emotions being brought back up with a return visit to Earth and reunion with spike AND the fact that he feels like Optimus doesn’t trust him and like hes just letting Starscream do whatever he want (something that understandably freaks him out seeing as how he spent 4 million years fighting Starscream) he just kinda snaps
He trys to destroy the space bridge so that no one else can leave or get through and so he can regain some semblance of control
Is it wrong
Yes
But he was not in a good state of mind and no one was helping him at all
And immediately following his arrest afterward Prowl is confronted by OP who is supposed to be his friend and when Prowl doesn’t say the right things to him to placate him Optimus’ response is to punch him out a window and beat the shit out of him
And not being given any room to breath this is immediately follow up my him getting kidnapped by Tarantulas who is very obviously an impactful and negative part of his past
Prowl just has bad event, one after the other, happen to him over and over again and not only does no one check up on him afterwards to see if hes okay but everyone actively makes fun of him for being understandable unstable
Prowl is a fucking tragedy and not many people seem to be able to see beyond what characters in the comics think of him

(166) Optimus Prime gets to gloriously sacrifice himself for his cause and move on to the Well, and by the end of the Cybertronian civil war a guilt-free death is all he really wants. So he's content and at peace. And then he wakes up, confused and dismayed, inhabiting Megatronus's frame, millions of years in the past.
Being a celebrity in the pits of Kaon is an awful life, and Optimus Prime has done his time a thousand times over and certainly doesn't fear the Well, so—somewhat shamefully, in retrospect—the first thing he does next is get Megatronus's cannon and blow his own processor out the back of his helm. The next time he wakes up, Megatron—HIS Megatron—is sharing the frame with him, and he has some scathing opinions about Optimus Prime's decision making capabilities.
They're both still trapped in Megatronus's body in the gladiatorial arena of old Kaon. They're just older, debatably wiser, and also stuck together. There's no Optimus Prime without Megatron, you see. And the future of their species depends upon them both.

Death is very good being Normal (at least he thinks so)
The Thirteenth Prime is death, that is his function, his purpose. However in response to increasingly high counts of meaningless loss of life, he has taken on physical form to try and address the issue. Too bad he keeps getting wrapped up in side quests and friendship along the way.
Previous part here.
━━━━━━ ⊙ ❖ ⊙ ━━━━━━━━━━━━ ⊙ ❖ ⊙
Orion Pax was an odd one alright. Ratchet knew that the moment he saw Orion the first time at the archives.
The way he walked was almost as if gravity had no sway over him. His body language was near non-existent and Ratchet couldn't sense an EM field from him at all. The Archivist seemed to blend right into the background if one weren't paying attention and Orion didn't even seem bothered. If anything Pax appeared to be more shocked when he was noticed rather than when he wasn't. Not only that, but there was just something... of about him. His limbs were too long, his plating too jagged and placed in areas it really shouldn't have been able to develop. His optics were too wide, too bright, and lifeless despite their glow.
He was off, but Ratchet found himself intrigued all the same.
He vividly remembered the day he finally worked up the confidence to approach the mech. He requested aid finding a text he could have easily hunted down himself just to see how the Archivist would respond. Ratchet was left even more interested in Orion when all the Archivist did was nod and gracefully guide Ratchet through the archives without even the slightest hint of emotion beyond momentary confusion and shock at being spoken to. It was almost hypnotic following Orion Pax with how every living thing seemed to bow to him.
He left the archives with his medical text in a bit of a daze and with more questions than answers. That day he resolved to figure out who Orion was and what about him made him so mysterious.
He came back to the archives time and time again, at first under the guise of needing new texts for his studies. Orion always seemed so very shocked when Ratchet approached but he never once rejected him. He talked with Orion, often receiving basic answers or ones that were so cryptic they hardly made sense. However eventually he came back just to be with the Archivist he had started to see as a friend. Orion was an excellent conversationalist and wise far beyond what Ratchet assumed was his age,. What started as a simple study of a unique character ended with Ratchet genuinely invested in teaching Orion how to be normal as he quickly discovered his friend was anything but.
Ratchet gave up asking how and why when it came to Orion around a stellar cycle into their friendship and instead merely sighed and accepted the oddity that was Pax.
Often Orion forgot to vent, a thing Ratchet had learned had zero affect on Orion since the mech was always cold as ice, only ever being even the slightest bit warm around the chassis. In such instances he would tap Orion on the shoulder and that would be enough to get him to open his vents and begin running his fans just to appear normal. When it happened in public mecha always began to panic upon seeing Orion with his armor clamped down tight around himself. The concern was so common that Ratchet even began timing how long it would take after Orion forgot for some poor bot to begin worrying that Orion was going to overheat.
The Archivist also tended to forget to show expression, make a show of having a field, and present some sort of body language. The lack of it left everyone Orion interacted with aside from those who knew him feeling like they were talking to a ghost. So Ratchet often straight up told Orion how he was supposed to act when required. Shoulders back, shift pedes every three seconds or so with slight variation, vent twice a Klik, reset the optics periodically, smile when spoken to, and so on. The list was near endless but he coached Orion all the same.
The only times he purposefully let Orion be was when the less savory sort came and bothered them. In those instances he was perfectly content to let Orion scare the scrap out of the poor bot on the receiving end by pure nature of his seeming lifelessness.
There were plenty of other things about Orion that Ratchet couldn't and certainly felt no need to explain. Sometimes Orion would disappear for cycles at a time without a word or a trace, almost like he had never existed at all. The first time it happened Ratchet nearly drove himself into a frenzy trying to find him until Orion reappeared as if nothing happened. After that he panicked a handful more times, but every instance of Orion dropping off the earth always ended with him returning in perfect condition. As such when it happened Ratchet stopped worrying and instead made sure to take care of Orion's plant while he was off doing whatever.
Ratchet also quickly got over Orion knowing things he really shouldn't and giving answers so wildly out there that it was ridiculous. How did Orion know personal details about what the late Lord of Vos preferred in his fuel? No clue. How did Orion know about the death of Sentinel Prime long before it was announced? Ratchet didn't even bother to try and figure it out. How was Orion aware that he had broken a cup in the medical bay earlier that morning when he had been alone and cleaned it up right after? He didn't want to know.
Ratchet: Where are you from Orion? It's rather obvious you are not native to Iacon.
Orion: I come from the place between the stars where time is meaningless and the whispers of things inconceivable to the mortal optic ring out all around.
Ratchet: Right... that is one way to describe the wilds.
Ratchet: So do you have any relatives?
Orion: Father watches over me in my duties, his gaze ever present but not loving. He is far greater than I, his vision so much more expansive that I cannot even comprehend it. My brothers do their duties with little regard for my own purpose. We are set apart, kin in our maker but not the same.
Ratchet: *nervous as hell* Tough family life huh? Understandable. What is this purpose you speak of?
Orion: I am merely a keeper, one who walks the void between realities to safeguard the children of Primus. I care little for who they are or what they have done, only that they are brought back safely and learn. They can struggle as hard as they wish, but all will come to me eventually...
Ratchet: *having a small crisis* An odd way to describe archiving data, but I suppose all do come for learning eventually.
Orion: As you say.
Sometimes he needed a strong drink after interacting with Orion, but he wouldn't dare ignore the entertainment he gained from his friend when he wasn't being driven to alcoholism with wisdom that Orion really shouldn't have and the odd instances where he saw some sort of energy being in place of his friend after long work shifts. After meeting Megatronus, Orion's odd instances became far more obvious since the Gladiator had quickly taken to telling Orion that it was indeed normal to do all the things the Archivist did that were certainly not. It drove Ratchet up the wall the first few times, but it quickly became funny for him as well to watch the reactions of others in response to Orion's actions.
Megatronus was weirded out by Orion on many levels, but he too gained an appreciation for him after listening to the wisdom Orion had to give. Not to mention Orion somehow had contacts everywhere and could forge words like a master even if they ended up being more terrifying than convincing.
Megatronus: How does the speech fare little Archivist? Might I hear a snippet of what you have composed?
Orion: The void awaits us all, our lives ultimately destined to end. Why endure suffering for eternity when it can be changed for those who are to come? Would we condemn the little children to this torture? Stand up. Fight for your freedom and embrace the end. For what harm is there is facing death with honor.
Megatronus: *slightly shaken* A good start, but perhaps tone down on the melodramatics.
To make up for the near constant trauma that came from being around Orion, Megatronus made great sport out of watching the chaos that came from his companion. While Orion was not very expressive, it was pretty clear he thought he was doing a great job at being normal. Megatronus never saw fit to correct him simply because the Archivist managed to scare Soundwave of all mecha by turning up in his berthroom in the middle of the night while somehow managing to get past all the security systems and Soundwave's heightened senses, only to then lean down and whisper to the spymaster.
"Megatronus summons you to formulate plans upon which this world may be rebuilt"
Simply put, Megatronus sent Orion to tell Soundwave to come to a meeting, and by the time the spymaster shot up, Orion was gone without a trace, not even a mark left on the security footage either. Soundwave quickly similarly ceased asking questions about the matter of Orion Pax and joined Ratchet and Megatronus in watching the fallout.
Orion seemed to think he was doing a fantastic job as he assisted in the efforts to begin a revolution in the pits. Megatronus could tell just by looking at him that the Archivist didn't even seem aware of how creepy he was. It was terrifying to have Orion turn up at any and all hours to hand over information. It didn't matter where Megatronus, Soundwave, Ratchet, or anyone else was. If Orion had information he wanted to relay, he would get to wherever they were and hand over the data even if his last known location was on the other side of the planet. Megatronus opted to ignore the fact that when Orion reappeared after disappearances his frame was a little more "normal" looking. He also never commented when Orion stared at him with unfeeling optics as if watching an interesting animal.
And much like Ratchet, he just did his best to forget the times Orion shifted in times of danger to become something... other. It was always different, but whatever it was Orion became when he felt threatened... it was a terrifying mess of energy and optics, claws and denta, fangs and wings. Best to ignore it and move on, as was generally the best decision when it came to anything that had to do with Orion Pax.
Even still Megatronus and Ratchet said nothing, letting Orion do as he felt and only directing him when in public if at all. He was strange and most likely a spark eater or another abomination in disguise. But he was a good mech and cared deeply once one got to know him. So for that Ratchet and Megatronus dealt with his oddities by either ignoring them or drinking them away so they could instead enjoy his companionship.
Orion for his part didn't know he was doing a poor job blending in and was just pleased that his chosen champion was making such good progress.

You are SO right about the Death of Optimus Prime.
It feels so one-sided which wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing if it wasn’t clear the narrative is pressing that the Autobots are just as bad as the Decepticons by literally refusing to have anyone but Prowl argue against what the Decepticons have done versus the Autobots and treating him like he’s being ridiculous even by his comrades! When the NAILs come back it’s not just that they’re tired of war and just want peace they seem to have no concept of anything about Autobots or Decepticons except that they’re both Bad but somehow Autobots are worse?
And seemingly no one points out anything the Decepticons did like blowing up one of the last energon mining facilities but that’s just frankly ridiculous because by all accounts the NAILs would all *have* to be from before the war and somehow they’re the only group who doesn’t remember what it was like before they left? Later we find out Soundwave was apart of pogroms specifically against Neutrals, Decepticons put Autobots heads in bombs to make them beg for their life by bomb disposal and had at least one facility dedicated to smelting Autobots alive and none of the Autobots seem to disagree with NAILS opinions on them? It just reeks of trying so hard to press “they’re both equally as bad.”
The whole Starscream as ruler too honestly conceptually I like, that he manipulated his way through shaky political ground and underhanded tactics and continued those away from public eye once he was in position in a tense post war society that doesn’t have any real system of government and would crumble if they tried to overthrow Starscream, but the idea that somehow no one could manage to point out that Starscream was second in command and complicit to all of Megatron’s crimes from the very beginning and that all the NAILs were totally cool with voting for him in power without any real discussion of that the first time he won felt so farfetched.
Honestly all of it could work, condescending NAILs, Optimus being forced to leave, Starscream becoming ruler of Cybertron could all genuinely work if they actually bothered making the arguments feel balanced because it relies way too hard on everyone just agreeing the Autobots are basically just as bad as the Decepticons and don’t have room to argue because War Is Bad.
THIS. Anon said everything I wanted to say except in a clearer conciser way. The whole premise of “Autobots are just as bad” is something I never understood, both from character perspective and as a reader. What exactly did the Autobots do to merit this sentiment? Like we all know there’s Prowl and the Wreckers, okay. Mostly Prowl. But the neutrals don’t know about what he did. Even the Autobots themselves don’t know! Whereas the Decepticons have this looooong list of insane evil shit they take pride in (including burning the entire planet and halving its population), were committing terrorism acts against the general populace before the war, and have specifically implemented anti-neutral pogroms during its course. How. do the Autobots compare. A hell lot more of “show, don’t tell” is needed rather than just having every non-Autobot transformer repeat it as an irrefutable mantra. And the Autobots just accepting it without even making an attempt to defend their position.
Like if the ‘Autobots just as bad’ statement was true, they wouldn’t even have been in such a difficult position in the first place, outnumbered and stuck between the NAILs and Decepticons. They could just detonate all the Decepticon inhibitor chips and shoot/banish every NAIL who doesn’t accept their authority. This is our home that we won back, we’re ruling it, and that’s that. That’s what the Decepticons would have done. That’s what the old government would have done. It’s as if the reason the NAILs were causing so much trouble was because they were perfectly aware of this difference; they knew the Autobots were restricted by their principles, so they were bold with their protests/lynching. Which again rubs me the wrong way because it implies that morality is a weakness to be taken advantage of that lets people walk all over you without fear of consequences.
Same goes with treatment of Optimus in DoOP and the Optimus Prime series honestly, the narrative is blatantly unfair. Characters keep shitting on him and doubting him and accusing him of being a tyrant when it’s repeatedly shown that none of his actions are ever self-serving. Like haven’t you all met multiple actual tyrants. Would they ever tolerate you guys. They make accusations because they know Optimus is a decent person who cares about the opinions of the people and the morality of his actions. Decency is never not taken advantage of.
To the colonists, the sins of the past primes are somehow All His Fault. To the humans, the atrocities of the Decepticons are also somehow All His Fault. Whenever he does anything, there’s always someone there to accuse him, regardless of the fact that his actions almost always turn out to be right and extremely foresighted. But he gets. no chance to explain himself. When he presents the matrix as a divine artefact (which it culturally is) someone goes: primes are evil I don’t believe in them. When he admits that he privately thinks the matrix is just a bauble and himself as just an ordinary person, the same person goes: how dare you not believe, gimme the matrix I can do better. He can say something as innocuous as “we should focus on dealing with Unicron rn” and there’s literally a colonist who goes “bringing people together because of a shared enemy is literally Fascism.” Seriously. The narrative is that skewed. Selflessness and trying to do the right thing despite being misunderstood by others are all well and good, but when the ‘misunderstanding’ becomes increasingly contrived to the point where the one person is constantly getting pilloried for no sound reason, then it just makes both sides look stupid.

TFP Yandere Optimus Prime - The Soft Yandere
Ayo, not too good at writing so I made this blog to try and get a little better. :)
If you have suggestions, I'm down- but not looking for a huge criticism. Thanks! <3
Optimus probably fell in love with you because you were kind and had a motherly aura about you. You took care of the kids- helping them with their homework, making sure they were well fed, and caring for their inevitable injuries they’ll get from the Decepticons.
You were a gentle soul, guiding the kids to do the right thing and teaching them all they would need to know for the future. Any time anyone (bot or human) had a question, no matter how “dumb” they thought it, you would answer with a kind smile gracing your face.
Optimus always thought that you were beautiful from the moment he laid eyes on you- both inside and out. At first, he was content to just have talks with you about human culture. What did this book mean? What are some good books to read?
Soon, as you had given him knowledge, you wanted some in return. You craved so badly to know of Cybertron. Optimus became your teacher just as you became his.
You both would often go on long drives to beautiful places (that were of course unpopulated) such as rivers, mountains, waterfalls, or forests. The two of you would talk all night about Earth or Cybertron’s histories and culture. Sometimes you both would stay out so late, and you would fall asleep on Optimus’ chest or in his cab. Every time he would so gently take you back to base, making sure to not jostle you. When there, he would take you to his berthroom where he had a human-sized bed to let you sleep on.
Obsession didn’t come until later when you got captured Megatron. Optimus had been careless- he took his eyes off of you when scouting for energon, and you had wandered off to look at a pretty flower. Optimus was so focused on the energon tracker that he hadn’t noticed you were gone until he heard a loud scream coming from behind him.
He quickly ran through the trees, snapping branches as he went when he saw it: Megatron had his claws wrapped around your much smaller frame, a wicked grin across his faceplate. Optimus looked to you for any injuries, but he could only see the terror on your face. You were trying so hard to look calm, he could tell- but because he knows you so well it was obvious you were just barely holding back tears.
“Release her, Megatron!” He roared out.
“Hm, you seem fond of the human, don’t you, Optimus? Then again, you’ve liked fragile things since you were a mere archivist.” Megatron opened his hand slightly, with you sitting in his palm. He looked down at you with a sick grin, “It would be so easy to crush you, wouldn’t you agree little one? Then again, Optimus really seems to value you- perhaps I’ll keep you as a pet.”
You shook like a leaf at his words. The warlord intended to keep you as a pet? You immediately looked to Optimus, eyes pleading with him to save you.
Optimus could feel the energon in his veins pumping loudly in his audio receptors. In his barely contained rage he managed to get out a few words:  “What do you want, Megatron?”
No matter how hard Optimus tried to hide it, Megatron saw right through him. After all, they used to be friends- and Optimus had hardly changed since then. Megatron could see the rage behind the Prime’s eyes.
Within moments, Megatron transformed around you. He immediately took off into the skies, leaving Optimus in the dust.
Optimus yelled in rage as his human was taken away from him.
For two solid months, the ancient bot refused to recharge as he searched and searched for you. He checked every signal, every transmission he could just to get even a bit of a clue as to where Megatron was. To where you were.
Optimus was angry. Angry at Megatron, and angry at himself. He blames himself for your capture. If he had just kept you at base, this would have never happened. He should have never even left your side.
Every single day he imagined what he would do to Megatron when he got his hands on him. He would end the war right then and there- and anyone to dare get in his way would join Megatron in the Allspark.
Eventually, they found a transmission from an energon mine. Some Vehicon must have forgotten to encrypt their signal- or it was a trap. Either way, they found from the transmission that the Nemesis would be docking there.
Optimus called all of the Autobots into the main hangar, and then they went through the groundbridge. Optimus was running through the Vehicons like no tomorrow to get to the Nemesis.
Soon, he found you sleeping in the medbay. Bruises covered your body and your hair was unkempt. He felt anger at your state and immediately took you back to where the groundbridge opened, and demanded one from Ratchet.
“Arcee, take them to get medical attention right away.” Optimus gently handed you to the blue bot.
“Optimus, aren’t you coming?”
Optimus began his walk to the Nemesis, “No, Arcee. Return to base, I will be back shortly.”
Hours later, Optimus came back to the base. Dried energon coated his hands- some of it a deep purple. Optimus’ optics were slightly dim as he walked into the base.
Ratchet immediately rushed to him, “Optimus, are you hurt?”
“No, I am unharmed. How are they?” Optimus’ eyes glanced over to you. You looked much better than when he had seen you. Your hair was wet from being cleaned, and your cuts were bandaged up.
“They will live. They’re resilient, they will be back on their feet in no time, June believes. Though, they will need regular check-ups for the next few months- medical and psychological.”
Optimus didn’t respond to his own friend, instead walking over to where you laid. He gently combed a hand through your hair.
Your eyes fluttered open, and you smiled gently at him. “I knew you’d come for me, Op. Thank you.” Tears welled up in your eyes. He gently wiped them away with his digit.
“I will never allow you to be taken from me again. That, I promise.” While you clung to his hand, you failed to notice the darker tone in his voice- or the energon that coated his hand as he lulled you back into sleep.

Seeing today's Death Battle has really made me dislike the Bayformers movies a lot more.
You're telling me comic Megatron had a whole ass corruption and redemption arc where he forgot the ideals he once fought for and then realized the side he fought against had come to embody those ideas and changed sides and became a hero and saved the universe alongside his longtime nemesis?!
And Bayformers was what we got?! With all that to work with?!
I think Megatron just retroactively became my favorite Transformers character.

How tall is Bay OP compared to the TFP bots & cons?
I just imagine TFP Megs having to look up at Bay OP, scared shitless as Bay OP glares down at him like he just insulted his carrier. Bay OP bitch-slapped a Dinobot (Grimlock) over twice/three times his size like it was nothing, he would destroy TFP Megs.
"In my universe, I ripped your head clean off your shoulders. And that was when I was missing an arm."
Imagine if they met Bay Megs too... :0
I was going to sit here and make a joke about how Bay! Optimus was so much shorter than his Counterpart and Megatron in TFP! Because I when I was first researching it I saw he was about 22 feet tall compared to their enormous 30’ and 32’ feet… but then I found sources saying Bay! Was 28’ or that TFP OP was 35…. DOES ANYONE KNOW THEIR CANNONICAL ACTUAL HEIGHTS???? Am I just blind???? Do I not know how to research??? Does anyone have an official chart???
Anyway, Bay! Op IS the goat when it comes to violence no matter what size, but I had such a funny image of him being a smidge taller than bumble and looking UP at Megatron saying those same things and still getting that same reaction. AND THEN Megatron- if he ever found out about his Bay! Counterpart would have to deal with the fact that he had a stint where he went mad in the middle of Africa with transformer organic babies (????) and ended up stranded on earth with little to nothing anyway being hunted down by three different organizations so Dude is pressed to say the least. I feel like Bay! Megatron doesn’t have that same dog in him like TFP Megatron does tbh.
Now, if Bay! Op was taller….. It would be like facing a dark ronin of death leaving a path of destruction in his wake. Yikes.
