It's a spooky atmospheric game about a gay cabaret dancer name Gloria in early 1900s Paris and her increasingly deteriorating view of her self and the world. She does have a girlfriend at the start of the game but it is mostly about Gloria's view of herself and the world around her as she feels increasingly exploited. So you're playing for the exploration of this woman's head as opposed to the romance between her and her girlfriend. But the music is great, the art direction is phenomenal, and the pixel art is outstanding. It's worth at least trying

"A beautiful nightmare"

If the content is not overly off-putting, and you can handle a couple of tension-free jump scares? A free afternoon? Aurally and visually beautiful, it haunts. The gameplay only uses direction keys and an interact button and it uses them smartly. Play it.

I think it's so interesting that horror exists. For us to create our own monsters to fear. A deeply personal reason must exist for us to seek out these kinds of experiences, even if it's not conscious right? For me I think it's the same reason why the "indomitable human spirit" trope works for me. In horror, in some form, people struggle to survive.

I'll be honest, I had thoughts about what I'd do given a similar situation, and they were not as much indomitable human spirit, as I'd just end myself. Or not comply. Or fight. But that's not really the point with stories. They are not me, I'm playing a role, a grand play. In these times I am instead Gloria. Gloria hangs on. Her heart is good. Better than mine I daresay.

This game also heavily reminds me of 'Room' (2015). Similar to the movie, they spend a good portion of time in the aftermath. Which is important, life after "the event" isn't always shown. But the acknowledgement here that you still have to continue living after terrible events works tremendously.

There are a couple times when I wasn't all on-board. Close to the beginning of when Gloria is kidnapped it seemed to go a hair long when showing her suffering; I also acknowledge that could be the point. Same with the end, although it works really well, it also just drags a tiny bit too long. While most pieces of puzzle or challenge weren't that bad, there was one spot that just got me like 8 times.

ALSO, the music I mentioned is good. But the vocalized pop songs are so enjoyable.
