hey so I know chapters 3 + 4 just came out but looking at the code and I may have found something I CANNOT find in-game?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There isn't one for King, but... chapter 5 might be in the flower shop? Just a hunch.

Deltarune... Theory? WHAT IS GOING ON MAN.
Tumblr media
The Spamton Sweepstakes have suddenly spawned a bunch of new pages and...! Frankly I can't even begin to try and crack them all, I have my sights set on a specific one. The page with the url /chapter5.
Tumblr media
Which... Just looks like this.
Oh, but you can highlight it!
Tumblr media
Okay so what do we got here. A tiny 1 in black text, a huge 2 in white text, a huge 3 in black text, a small 4 in white text, and a moderately sized 5 in white text. On top of that, they all have links, except 1 so that's 1 less thing to worry about.
The big white 2 links to d.ogg from the game's files (or d.mp3 on the website), which is the song that plays in the weird route right before the fight against Berdly, as soon as Noelle snaps out of her trance. So uh, already off to a concerning start!
The big black 3 links to ma.mp3, a sound effect that also plays over ooooon...
Tumblr media
This new page, /romb. This is pretty obviously harkening back to what Seam said about our next powerful foe being impossible without the Shadow Mantle, so we can presume that's what the blank spaces here stand for. No Shadow Mantle, no Shadow Crystal cause you can't beat the third secret boss. Clicking these blank spaces plays the aforementioned ma.mp3.
The small white 4 just links back to /chapter4, which is a whole other puzzle thanking you and asking for your email? There's something about a "she" who "never smiled", really not sure what to make of this cause we know next to nothing about Chapter 4. I guess Chapter 4 wants our email?? Perhaps a tease for the new character, Spamton 2 Spamton... No nevermind.
The white 5 links to h.mp3, a very short snipper of a guitar melody, not one I think we've heard before. Could Mozart still be alive? Dess. I meant Dess.
Obviously these numbers represent the chapters somehow, but that raises so many questions. Why is Chapter 1 small and irrelevant? Why is Chapter 2 being represented by the weird route, and Chapter 3 its secret boss? What does the chapter 4 page even have to do with Chapter 4? Chapter 5 Dess Dess Chapter 5? What connects these seemingly disparate elements? Do the size of the numbers represent the size of the chapters? That would make every chapter bigger than 1, which I guess I could believe, and 2 being the biggest would make sense since Toby said it was supposed to be the biggest in the game (Although Chapter 3's long ass dev time might have brought it up to match with new ideas). That would make Chapter 4 and 5 smaller than 2, if this guess is even true, which it might not be. And why are 1 and 3 blacked out?? Toby said Chapter 3 was less story heavy and I guess you could say the same of Chapter 1.
Don't leave yet I'm still spitballing. Hey, if Chapter 2 is being represented by the weird route here, and Chapter 1, where we can't do the weird route, is blacked out... Is this telling us there won't be a weird route in Chapter 3, but will in 4 and 5? We have been guessing for a while that given Noelle won't be in Chapter 3 (UNLESS SHE JUST IS LOL HI UNUSED CHAPTER 3 MUSIC WITH HER THEME IN IT) the previous chapter's weird route events probably won't have much if any effect on Chapter 3's events, but obviously by 4 and 5 those consequences will start to manifest.
Frankly I don't think this is "solveable", the game isn't out yet. But I'm just gonna go with "The size of the numbers is the size of the chapter and the color of the number is whether there's a weird route or not" for now. That's my best guess in the moment. There's other elements here but I'm gonna let them sit cause I don't think we can do much with them.
Crazy that myhouse.wad and the Spamton Sweepstakes both got out of left field updates within like a month, huh?

So with the knowledge that the "Lord of the Hammer" was intentionally based on the Prophecy (which I guess makes it less of a "Lord of the Ring" parallel and more of a "Chronicles of Narnia"?) and the fact that all of the Chapters that Gerson/the Hammer of Justice mentions have Very Obvious Parallels to the events of the game so far….
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is the next Chapter gonna take place in Asgore's Flower Shop?
In terms of a location that could be Dark Worlded into a 'Field', a Flower Shop would be the most obvious option. "Pink and Gold" are the two primary colors in Asgore's color-scheme, the color of his hair and shirt. And the idea of 'jealousy' would be a natural consequence to the end of Chapter 4, with how close Toriel and Sans are getting. Plus, we've gotten a few Optional Ominous Moments from Asgore that might require a follow-up
Tumblr media
and if Susie is still trying to figure out the Shelter Code and free Undyne, trying to go to the former Police Chief for that part of the code would be a logical move.
Would that mean that after Tenna being kind of a manifestation of Toriel and Kris' feelings about Asgore and the Divorce… we will be getting some sort of Darkner representation of Asgore's feelings on the matter? How many Divorce Icons can one game fit in????
(Of course that's all assuming that Gerson is not trying to deliberately mislead us as part of his "don't let stories get predictable! Break the prophecy!" message. Maybe "the Field of Pink and Gold" is a fucking Pepperoni Pizza world focused on Pizzapants getting catfished or something)

The Knight is very clearly a direct foil to us but I think it actually goes much deeper than it simply being an antagonistic force. I think it might be acting as a vessel or vehicle to an entity thats a direct mirror to our soul.
Tumblr media
There seems to be a lot of visual emphasis on an object resting within the Knight's torso specifically as it roars and performs its final attack in Chapter 3. I don't think it's been put there for no reason. I believe this Eye may be a direct narrative mirror to us, serving a similar role to Flowey in Undertale - it might represent a player that's been through this story so many times its grown bored, and is now repeatedly doing nothing but running its own "Weird Route". It seems to be manipulating townsfolk into doing its bidding, having little to no care for dialogue and resolving things through overwhelming and swift force. In that way, I believe when we embark on the Weird Route we actually begin to play the game by the Knight's own playbook, beginning to manipulate others to serve our own purposes and focusing on increasing our strength. If the Eye is really a seperate entity and not simply a piece of the Knight's body, it would also introduce a very interesting theme between the two "Vessels" that sort of connects them. Both of them are depicted as knightly, with obscured eyes - they don't need them to see, they've got someone in the sky (or, perhaps in the Knight's case, down below?) watching over them. Its not entirely unlikely that this Eye, much like Flowey, was the one in control of the save file system prior to our arrival, and its somewhat cocky demeanor may come from the fact its succeeded many times before. Even with you interfering, it might think the world continues to revolve around it. Despite it losing control over the save file system, its actually got the odds stacked against us - its got the town under its thumb, and it seems to be much more effective at converting key Darkners to its cause, meanwhile we end up having to do some serious convincing. At this point in the story at least, we're quite outgunned and outnumbered.

ok so I saw someone (can’t remember who now, sorry) say that, assuming the chapter 5 dark world is Flower King, Alphys could also be there, because she and Asgore would probably be the only ones without a date to the festival, Alphys would go over there to ask him out since she can’t find Undyne, etc etc you get it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
then I thought: ok now what if all the classmates minus the ones from Undertale also go the dark world with us
like imagine, they’re all about to go to the festival before we run into someone and they’re like “we’re still setting everything up, the festival won’t be open for another few hours, but we need more flowers, and we can’t find Asgore. Hey Kris, can you and your friends go to your dad’s shop to get some flowers for us?”, then everyone heads over to Flower King, they try to open the door but it’s locked until they notice the side door is open now, they go in, they can’t find Asgore anywhere, and when they check the two doors in Asgore’s basement (at least I think it’s a basement) they find the dark world
Tumblr media
.
.
.
.
.
.
and THEN I thought: hey what if they each have one of the soul flowers in the dark world
Tumblr media
like, all the flowers are already in the dark world, someone threw them in there idk, and Alphys and Asgore already have one each, so that’s five left. Noelle, Berdly, Catti, and Jockington get one each as well, and that leaves Kris, Susie, and Ralsei with one, the golden flower, and all the flowers are alive and sentient, and they’re essentially everyone’s guides in the dark world, their companions, their “best friends”, if you will. Every flower basically acts the same, but their personalities are slightly different depending on the soul trait, and the color of the flower each person has corresponds to the soul trait they best represent, like I think Berdly could have the orange flower for Bravery, Catti might have the yellow flower for Justice, Jockington could have Integrity, idk I can’t think of anyone else right now
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh yeah also Jockington’s dark world design would have a beard (or he would have one in the light world because he uh forgot to shave idk)
Tumblr media
also also, when The Fun Gang trio find the golden flower, they’re like “Howdy! My name is (whatever)! Y’know, normally, there would be other mes to accompany you all, but there’s no one left. Hmm, oh well, I guess little old me will have to do!” (never let me cook again)

reminder that in snowgrave/weird route Kris literally does everything in their power to stop the evil shit we're doing to Noelle, and all the evil shit we do to Noelle explicitly happens on screen because we are physically incapable of controlling Kris when they take us out or when the game is turned off, so that one really uncomfortable theory regarding the rose literally cannot be true unless Kris did it themself

a little thing about eyes in deltarune, and just some pondering about how a certain character, who’s already very likely to be relevant to chapter 5, may appear narratively/appearance wise.
Tumblr media
Obviously there's a decent amount of evidence that Asgore will be involved in the next chapter, but I think this might be a reasonable assumption that he'd be the boss.
As we seen with the other "Leaders" of each dark world (Not counting Church cause that doesn't really have one), there is definitely a theme with darkness, sight, and the leaders not having eyes or their eyes being darkened or covered.
Well, who has the most iconic imagery of hiding or covering their eyes in Undertale? Asgore. I even remember back then when people were debating whether he had an evil smile or if that was his nose and cheeks.
But the way symbolism works, how Toby's been playing with imagery in both UT and DR, and the fact that hints and drops of Deltarune's stories and events are in Undertale, I wouldn't discount this as being an intentional foreshadow of Asgores appearance in Chapter 5, potentially as the main boss.

I hope in chapter 5 those flowers Asgore talks to are either the main enemies that have more issues than tenna after all the shit Asgore told em or echo flowers that repeat exactly what he’s said spread out throughout the level

anyone else notice how Deltarune seems to be getting more advanced each chapter, diegetically?
chapter 2 introduces the Recruits system, and updates save points to show all 3 slots in-game. chapter 1 was not retroactively updated to include the feature - it's an in-universe change. (although i believe chapter 1 npcs are automatically recruited once the system is introduced.)
and is it just me, or does it almost sound like the soundtrack is getting more advanced, too?
chapter 1's soundtrack was almost all soundfonts, chiptune, more retro synths, etc. - and the same goes for chapter 2, mostly. (mostly except for Susie, notably. her and her maybe-synth, maybe-live distorted guitars.)
we don't have much to work with, so this may not be anything worth mentioning, but the three songs for chapter 3-5 we've gotten sound noticeably more "real," i'd say?
"Hometown Day" is definitely the least notable of the three in terms of this, but still sounds relatively "realistic"/live
"My Funky Town" was what gave me this thought in the first place. the more live-sounding guitar in the left ear, something about the drums i can't quite describe accurately, the electric piano being played/recorded live. of course, it's not entirely "live" sounding, notably the saxophone being straight from the Touhou soundfont. but still much more than anything in chapter 1 and most in chapter 2.
"Green Room" is an odd case in general, considering it's pretty much just a remix of "Hip Shop," unlike any other song i can recall. but, yet again, it does sound a lot less "digital," would you agree? more effects on pretty much everything, the spacey drums and electirc pianos, everything.
this may not go anywhere, but i figured it was worth noting. the idea of chapters becoming more and more advanced as each one is added could also definitely be theory-crafting material methinks

me think dess is seperated between the knight and the source code, a la gaster, or kris, between a soul and a vessel
also the knight and vessel kris seem to be allied with carol
i also think asgore is carol’s muscle in regards to helping her clean her house & her plans. He is in well enough standing with her to feast on her snack tray and have his shop open, so he must be serving something to her. He likely has been hiding (see closets in ch2 & 3), and susie saw someone carry undyne away, and i do doubt that carol could do that easily. also he was former police chief and goes to church to pray. also i think that asgore is trying to solve dess’ disappearance and possibly clear his name and could be utilizing his connection to carol to do so (i personally believe that carol made the blizzard)
The festival is presumably next chapter, and iirc The Lord of The Hammer’s chapter 5 describes a gold and pink field burning in jealousy.
I think that asgore would be all prepared for good sales at the festival, see toriel & sans, get pissed and we finally see magic in use from asgore (aside from presumably carol making the room cold).
could be wrong tho
