Back home after being away for three weeks . . . It wasn't that bad, especially as it was necessary for me to start feeling better, and move forward on my journey . . . But I am indeed grateful and so relieved to be home. Through everything, I know God was there for me every step of the way. “Depressive Psychosis” by Rebecca Gonzalez -an essay
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, about 20 percent of people who are diagnosed with severe depression also have a form of psychosis.  It also affects roughly, one out of four people admitted to the hospital for depression. This mental health condition is known as depressive psychosis. This condition is a combination of the overwhelming sadness and despair people may feel from depression, paired with psychotic symptoms. Psychosis is a condition that affects the mind. An individual’s thoughts and perceptions are confused and the person can find it difficult to differentiate what is real and what is not.
A person will show signs of these symptoms from depressive psychosis: sadness, the feeling of “emptiness”, hopelessness, worrisome drop in grades or job performance, new trouble thinking clearly or concentrating, irritability, moving or talking slowly, hallucinations/delusions, paranoid ideas, having trouble sleeping, appetite and/or weight changes, body aches, confused speech or trouble communicating.  These are just some of the physical and mental symptoms a person with depressive psychosis can be experiencing.
According to Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, an individual with depressive psychosis tend to have delusions that are regretful, paranoid, and associated with the body.  For example, a person might think someone is talking bad about them because they are so “bad”.  People with depressive psychosis also feel ashamed of having such thoughts, so they hide them. In doing this, it makes it very problematic to diagnose.
There isn’t a specific cause for an individual to be diagnosed with depressive psychosis. It’s thought that a chemical imbalance plays a factor in the brain. Another component could also be genetic. Researchers have not yet found the specific gene linked to this condition, but do know that if a person has a close family member such as a mom, dad, sister, or brother, chances are much higher of having depressive psychosis. Stress can also affect the chemicals in the brain, associated with depressive psychosis. The mental condition may also have to do with the changes in the balance of hormones in the body.  Women also experience this condition more than men do.
The more scientific side of having depressive psychosis can affect certain areas of the brain. When you have depression alone, it can affect your memory. The hippocampus stores and regulates the amount of a hormone called cortisol. That hormone is released when someone is in a state of physical and mental stress. Problems occur when there is too much of the hormone released. An individual with depression will experience excessive amounts causing slow production of new neurons, causing the hippocampus to shrink leading to memory problems. Cortisol also affects the amygdala and the prefrontal cortex. Those areas of the brain regulate memory, emotions, making decisions, sleep and activity patterns. These are the few ways the brain is affected just by depression alone.
When someone is having psychosis, researchers have suggested that dopamine plays a role in this symptom. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, one of the many used chemicals to transmit information from one brain cell to another. It is associated with how we feel, whether something is significant, important, or interesting. It’s said that people with psychosis have high levels of dopamine. The excessive amounts of dopamine is said to affect important functions such as memory, emotion, social behavior, and self-awareness.
The effects of depressive psychosis can be problematic in all areas of a person’s life. Not only does depressive psychosis affect the mind and body, but everything else in that individual’s life may be a struggle to maintain and may even be difficult to do at all.  The effects can be seen in school, work, family, friends, as well as personal relationships and in their hobbies and passions. For example, a person may love to dance and is vice president of his dance club at school. That individual has depressive psychosis and misses many practices putting that individual’s spot in jeopardy.  Another more serious effect is suicide attempts and completion. The suicide rate is five times higher than someone without psychosis with depression.
When someone in the family or a close friend gets depressive psychosis, it can cause a disruption. It can bring a family or friendship closer together, or may even bring them further away from each other. It is important that the person’s close circle shows support and understanding. The individual’s support group might not want nothing to do with the person affected or may not understand how to deal with the person with that condition. The family or close friends can lead to feeling stressed and angered. It is important for the person’s support group to understand that depressive psychosis is an illness and should be treated and understood like any other illness.
Although the causes and effects of having depressive psychosis are severe and complex, an individual can overcome. Seeking professional help such as therapy will be beneficial in the long run. There is not any medications to treat depressive psychosis that are FDA approved, but there are for depression and psychosis as well as many other resources out there. An individual diagnosed can live a beautiful, healthy and fulfilled life with the right treatment that suits the person and a loving support group.

This is an especially nice reminder when it feels like life & mental illness keep you down - but I see so many others who had the same ideas & plans I once had make our shared dream come true {for them anyhow}, which goes to show I *could've* done it, too; had circumstances been different! :O ♡ The one that always gets me is how Christina Vee did exactly what I had wanted to do since I was 20 to become a voice actor & play the voice of my first kindred spirit ever since childhood being Rei Hino aka Sailor Mars. I was going to be part of the Voice Acting Alliance community, set up a YouTube channel for singing & voice acting, all those things, which was several years before the new Sailor Moon was announced - however, circumstances, lack of good equipment, technology fails & family drama on top of depression & lack of motivation as a result of all that got in the way - plus it probably helps that she lives in California anyway, whereas I'm in Connecticut where like nothing ever happens. =^^'= {My best bet is saving up to travel to New York for opportunities.} But I am always in awe when I think about that, cos she accomplished my *exact same dream of playing Sailor Mars*; let alone did essentially everything I had planned/dreamed to do in order to achieve that goal! :O . . . Now that I'm finally free from family & living on my own with my twin brother {as well as receiving treatment for my depressive psychosis & PTSD}, I will definitely work on motivating myself & overcoming procrastination, so I too can pursue my dreams x ♡ Another one that always inspires me is my hero & crush, Hidehiko Hoshino of BUCK-TICK; at 50 years old, Hide joined a soccer team with other musicians, when his original dream before Yuta pursued him to join the band was to play soccer! =^.^= ♡ ···°♡°···°♡°···°♡°··· #dreams #motivation #inspiration #nevergiveup #positivity #positiveattitude #depressivepsychosis #depression #ptsd #mentalhealth #mentalhealthwareness #alwayskeepfighting

Aside from the egregores most likely being manifestations {"shadow selves" or "soul fragments" in shamanism; "thoughtforms of sin" in Christianity} of my own deeply rooted problems part of my depressive psychosis and PTSD, there is also this as food for thought - I was surprised to talk with another YYH fan having a series of crazy dreams involving her OC in a love triangle with Kurama and Karasu. Wild. But it did get me thinking, as she claims Karasu "indulges her dark side in her dreams" {yet claims it's not wish fulfillment, at all} - however, I can acknowledge my Crow did this for me, and I do have a repressed sexuality coming from a strict Catholic upbringing and all that I was made to be ashamed of; with Karasu and me, it is much like the song by the Arctic Monkeys that goes, 'Cos you're a good girl, and you know it - you act so different around me. Cos you're a good girl, and you know it - I know exactly who you could be' {I know this is a cover; however, I only know the Arctic Monkeys version as Alex Turner sounds like my Karasu when he sings! ♡} Subjects like wish fulfillment and the subconscious, all of that, is very intriguing - to me anyway! I love how the mind works, and am always in awe of how vast our subconscious goes. Talking with my egregores helps me unlock a bit of that, like Karasu helping me recover memories {exactly why I use this self-help method in my shamanism practice} aside from when they also {seemingly} teach me new things at the same time! :0 ♡ This fangirl definitely didn't strike me as being really big on mental health awareness, though. Just seemed to want to share her stories in her dreams, and ghost stories; which were interesting anyhow. =^^'= heh ···°··· #mentalhealth #mypersonaljourney #myspiritualjourney #shamanism #egregores #servitors #shadowselves #soulfragments #depressivepsychosis #PTSD ···°··· . . . And as I finish up another #mentalhealthawareness entry, I hear Karasu praise me with, 'You did good.'
