So the other day I was watching the gmtk video about the game jam and the winner was a 2d platformer whose main mechanic was that the marble could “expand” on command. This exerts a force on the blocks around it and you can do work, but you can also jump. Which is key.

I think that this game needs to be able to shift its volume. Like, I don’t want a “static” jump. And giving the player access to direct translational motion feels wrong. Basically, it has nothing that interacts with rotation.

The thing is. If the marble jumps by quickly growing then that will necessarily include rotation. If a marble has rotational work done on it, then changing the radius of the marble also changes the total work done. If you increase the radius, you also increase the torque. If you decrease the radius so do you the radius.

My addition the idea posed in the game jam is to include a way to shrink the marble as well. You can grow the marble <space> and you can shrink the marble [shift].

I’ve struggled to handle how the boost, also makes the marble sink, and I think that one way to do that is that one of the mobility options needs to be a teleport that presurves the translational momentum and uses the rotational momentum parallel to the way that you’re going.

BoughClan's territory borders FrostClan to the northwest and SpireClan to the southeast. ReefClan and BoughClan aren't close enough to share borders, so BoughClan cats don't get to see them very often now that they've split into four clans again!

i'll get to show it off quite a bit later, but there is a ritual involved with granting outside cats the traits of the respective Clan they've joined. i won't say much more, but i'm VERY excited to show it off when BoughClan gets some outsiders in later moons. (for some reason clangen did not want to give me outsiders for like. 20 moons hahaha)
