the demo for OMAMORI : a mp100 fangame is now live on itch.io!

we're celebrating reigen's birthday with a preview of a project that @kreauxlighe/jace and i have been working on since april! jace has been working on the writing and programming, and i am providing the art and visual assets.

OMAMORI is a serirei focused kinetic visual novel. you are a spirit haunting an omamori who helps people that receive it specifically with their struggles in love and romance. one day, your omamori is given to reigen arataka. as you take your time observing this apparent conman while he works it becomes clear there is something there between him and his deputy director, serizawa katsuya, although neither one seem ready to confess. get to know them and, with the aide of the people (and spirit?) in their lives, help them take that next step.

the play time for the demo is 15-20 minutes, depending on your reading speed (and how long you take typing different names into the player name slot). we have more planned features and many more chapters to come, so there's a lot to look forward to! you can follow the game page on itch.io for occasional devlog updates in the future.

Just watched Monkey Man and I can't recall the last time I've seen an action movie that was that overtly political. Like, it's set in India (the movie is in American/Canadian coproduction) and so it's somewhat distanced from the NorthAmerican context, but it's still very much a movie with a major plot point of the hero organizing an army of Hijras to murder the shit out of the chief of police, a corrupt conservative religious leader, and a bunch of transparent stand-ins for the BJP.

Also, it's really good.

Like the game let’s you celebrate your birthday in game for 1 week and literally since the day it started my pulls have been fucking wild????

Like I got Rafayel in my first 10 pull and then when I did a 10 pull with the pity guarantee, I got not just Zayne who was my precise wish, but Xavier too (so both the limited cards I didn’t have) AND an extra Zayne so I could rank him up a level?????

This cannot be a coincidence, especially with getting a 5 star on two separate non-pity 10 pulls, there’s just no way skdjksks

If anyone else has a birthday coming up soon and they have the means to test this theory out please do and tell me the results because this has been absolutely insane!!!!

crack! crack! crack!

his jaw was tense with how much you cracked your knuckles. sometimes you'd even crack them when they weren't ready and make a joke about them "not having reloaded yet". what the fuck did that even mean?

he could hear the individual bubbles in the synovial fluid bursting and popping, leading up to a larger more louder snap instead of a crack. and in the morning? in the morning you'd crack everything. back, neck, fingers, wrists, hell you'd even crack your damn tailbone.

"hey matt-" crack! "couldya take the trash out?" crack!

you'd never seen him get up so fast so quietly. he grabbed the trash quickly, his jaw ticking as if he was on edge. you shrugged and moved on.

he loved you, god did he love you. but this? this was something he just couldn't deal with. this was his version of nails on a chalkboard. the pop of the bubbles and the sudden rush of fluid between your bones, his teeth ached from the thought of it.

you'd asked him what he felt like for dinner. as he answered, you had cracked your thumb. just one digit and matt flew over the edge.

"that's- i've had enough, you need to stop doing that, i can't take it anymore sweetheart, my entire body aches whenever i hear that noise!"

"what?" you questioned.

"you! cracking knuckles! it's driving me up the walls batshit crazy." he was sure he looked insane, hands flying wildly in the air as if to gesture his frustration.

"okay matt," you said, "i can stop."

"that easy? that fucking easy? i just had to ask?" he asked in disbelief.

"yeah matt, that easy." you laughed at the shocked look on his face.

he walked away to the bedroom while you snickered at him, grumbling something mean under his breath.

"love you too!" you called out after him.

Tangentially related to some of the discussion i posted earlier but quiet literally the first RW Art Month i participated I did it completely on whim like, one day before it started. And I mostly did it because I hadn't drawn a ton of rain world and wanted to draw more. Fandom presence was a lot smaller than and I was one of a handful of artists who did the entire thing. Fast forward and I still do Art Month and I've gotten to work with VC directly. But it was quite literally something I decided to do completely on whim that set the ball rolling, and for something a lil more niche and certainly with a lot more dev/fandom art involvement than most. It's really random how and why you might get noticed more than usual, especially with the "toss it into the search and hope it pays out' mechanism of Socmed
