i think one of the things that i love about brilliant minds so far is that their queer representation doesn't feel secondary or forgotten for long stretches.
wolfnichols is centered (as much as you can in a procedural) and never an afterthought. even with carol's story with morris and alison running in parallel it never felt like a throwaway or like they were trying to cram it in.
their disagreements don't feel like they're just for the Plot or to create drama. there's so much intention there. there is ensuing character development that occurs as a result and it really works. like these characters are in their mid/late forties and while they certainly still have issues to work through, i also appreciate that they're written in what feels like a mature intentional manner --- not just throwing hurdles and conflict at them for the #angst.
it's been incredible to see the growth of queer rep in the procedural genre over the last decade or so, but wolfnichols really does feel a bit first of its kind to me. the queer storyline is given to the main character and for once the gay relationship is given the same grace and thought as its straight counterparts. ( and not to go off on a tangent, but i also love that wolf & carol's platonic relationship is framed and shown as the strongest in the series as well ).
i love a slow burn (even if i probably would not classify this as a slowburn, we do see them go from strangers to a romantic relationship). i love to see relationships develop and far too many times in other shows the development feels jerky or sudden. i had the fear of that in episode 8, but in retrospect you can see it's just a honeymoon phase. (do i still think they could have written their relationship development even slower??? ... yes, but i'm not that mad about it)
the rest of the season also really proves to me that they're willing and wanting to explore so much development between the two. they're not just getting them together mid-season 1 and then wiping their hands of the responsibility of developing them further bc 'well there!! they're together !! be happy !! we did it !!' i love that they're going to experience setbacks. they're going to have to work through things together and in the end it's going to make their bond stronger.
we all love angst and relationships that have hurdles (it makes for a great story to watch lbr !! ), but i love that it doesn't seem to just be for gratuitous plot devices and they don't feel manufactured. there are real repercussions and real growth that comes as a result. which of course, just makes me SO interested in how season 2 might go.
#brilliant minds#wolfnichols#oliver wolf#josh nichols#still digesting the first season#and the more i think about it#the more i realize that i don't think#i've seen a (canon) relationship like theirs in a procedural#and while i'm sad about how the season ended#i'm not mad about it either#bc i can see the motivations behind it#and to me it didn't feel like a betrayal of their relationship at all#like it clearly sets up a springboard for so much more#deeper development between them#and i love it!!!#let's just hope they get to actually do it huh#anyway... it sure has been a hot minute since#i wrote a long-ish text post for a fandom lmao#and yes#i have seen the first few seasons of both 91./1 series#but i had to stop bc#it just felt they were throwing disaster after disaster#at the characters for the Plot#and no true development ever came of it#and it annoyed tf out of me

I know Tim has a whole schtick about traditional TV formula and how its characters can't ever change, hence all of our mains, especially Buck, have been running on a metaphorical rotational device for small domesticated rodents and going through the same thing over and over again. How to avoid it all getting boring, frustrating and tedious after 8 years?
May I suggest learning from the Spanish language? May I devise the ser vs estar model?
I'll give you all the ser qualities. They stay firefighters no matter what, medical degree be damned. They can even be pretty much the same person as they were when they first appear, Buck impulsive hot head until the age of 90, sure.
But show me some evolutions in their estar qualities? Like emotions, let Henren's children be happy for more than 3 episodes? Conditions, maybe don't kidnap Maddie again? Actions, Buck should've learned not to act on his impulse by now. Or even... marital status?
Please? Por favor? S'il vous plaît? Si us plau?
#Nope I do not speak Spanish#Duo would be proud of me#911 critical#911 crack........?#bucktommy#|<- not tagging other characters/ships I don't think this is content they'll enjoy#Yes I've been rewatching B99#and this police procedural sitcom does character developments so much better#while the essence of its main stays the same#Amy Santiago is my muse

also, like, just for everyone's reference, that "ai effects on brain engagement with writing" paper is from the MIT media lab specifically, a bizarre department composed of a mix of different labs from different fields which ostensibly are meant to allow for unusual crossdisciplinary or otherwise out-of-the-box research, and in fact are mostly very self-consciously designed to a very specific vision of what "out of the box" means that hit a small set of very trendy research topics. often they do very hype-conscious slightly fluffy conceptual work about popular topics (AI, robotics, consciousness, human-tech interactions, etc) that get very widely promoted in order to encourage funding by the kind of individual philanthropist who's really into that kind of thing.
those labs do sometimes produce good research, but it's very conspicuous that they're not actually situated in a research department where they would be surrounded by their actual peers in the discipline and receive feedback and supervision by other experts. like, it's not that any given work from that department is definitely suspect in its methods or anything. it's just that, if your main interest was in doing good neuroscience, there is a whole MIT neuroscience department already, and the choice to instead be in the flashy self-promotion department and frame all your questions in the flashy self-promotion framing is. at least kind of notable.
#this isn't a reflection on the quality of the research procedures which i haven't delved into particularly.#but it may be informative about the choice of question and certain particularities of the framing.#box opener#like even when someone's doing good research it's like. why did you decide to make it maximally difficult to find any peers who#you could talk to about your work in neuroimaging.#as opposed to someone developing vr-enhanced opera.#it's just really obnoxious watching people use Trusting Scientists as a new blind heuristic when like.#probably this is a part of a larger at least somewhat meaningful research program but it is so so definitely also a stunt.

Procedural Dungeon Generation
Alright~ After much work we have finally completed our dungeon generation algorithm. First, we generate the rooms, separate them using a separation steering algorithm.
Second, we generate a graph that represents connections between the various rooms
Third, we perform what is known as Delaunay Triangulation, in which we evaluate pairs of triangles and swap their shared edge if it fails a test boiled down to a simple matrix determinant evaluation Fourth, we construct a Graph of connectivity from the Delaunay triangulation
Fifth, we perform an A* pathfinding algorithm to connect points on the delauney triangulation through the neighborhood graph
Finally, if we didn't traverse through a room, we can remove it to simplify the dungeon into something a little less dense
There are some extra things we can do here and there, and bugs and edge cases to iron out here and there, but for now, we have a pretty neat little dungeon generator. The next step is to actually procedurally generate the rooms and then use the connectivity graphs to implement game logic and whatnot, but that we will save for another time.

🏪 Day 67 of Game Dev for 🫱Teleport Man🫲
More procedural mall generation stuff!
• Automatic store-front sign placements.
• Random doorway/room shapes (I need to make more of the doorways bigger or add windows tho).
• Generation based on room dimensions. Right now it just places a light in top center, but will be used to make room contents next!

ngl while it's good that people are becoming more wary of new technologies and would rather take their time with integrating it into their daily lives I do fear that the climate of tumblr is turning many people into technophobes
#litchi.txt#sometimes I read people's complaints about some new technology and Im here like '????youre just mad because of a word in there?'#theres so much misinfo floating around#recently saw someone get angry about some game company saying theyre looking into developing ethical AI for level generation#and like has anybody considered thats just.... a more advanced procedural generation?#which has been a thing for Decades at this point?#'AI for NPCs bad!!!' no thats also existed for decades#people see the words AI and immediately freak the fuck out#most of you would be celebrating that this stuff exists had MidJourny not become so big#like people are gensrs just terrified of technology at this point#or people blowing shit out of proportion#still mad about someone going 'OMG THIS IS EVIL THE PINCH POINTS ARE EVIL THEY SHOULDVE REMOVED IT'#and like.... pinch points are at wooden doors wdym#people on here genuinely see new technology and immediately go to 'okay so how do I make this into a bad thing.'#'whats the worst case scenario and how do I convince people thats the default'

I hope you don’t mind my adding an anon message to the no doubt prodigious amount in your inbox, but I think the reason you’ve gotten an influx of anons and readers since the Louis Byronic hero/masculine/vers kerfuffle is that many more people agree with you than they admit, but have become so afraid of harassment and backlash that they keep quiet on their blogs. I found your blog after that incident, I read your post and saw it wasn’t anything like what people said it was, and went on to read your other posts. It’s been a breath of fresh air honestly.
Oh, thank you, anon! This is such a bittersweet ask to get, because it's lovely to know that this blog feels like a breath of fresh air, and that my posts have resonated with people, but it really is sad to me that people have become so afraid of harassment and backlash in this fandom, and to know that my posts have been strawmanned like they have. I don't know, I said it recently, but in terms of the latter, all I can do is know what I mean, clarify where I can, and speak honestly, and ultimately know that the people who do that are saying more about themselves than they are about me, but at the same time, y'know - -
I don't think anyone loves being wilfully misinterpreted, and I obviously don't love being called some of the things I've been called, but at the end of the day, I try to approach things with patience and curiousity, which is all I think I can do, and I hope that comes through with people who follow along with all of this.
#i've mentioned it on here before but one of my areas of specialty as a freelance writer is in safety#which i know sounds really boring hahah#it is sometimes honestly#but a lot of clients i work with are hiring me to re-develop policies and procedures after Things Have Happened#so i'm kind of used to being in very volatile spaces#like gosh i did a contract years ago with a state gov department of education#re-developing procedures on student-on-teacher violence which was pretty hectic#especially as i always end up talking to a lot of people who've been involved in incidents to develop these documents#anyway hilariously i find some of the mental tools i have for that part of my work useful in a lot of this

An Interview with Sheriff Will Diaz - Part 7 - In the Chair.
A continuation of the interview with Sheriff Will Diaz. Will Diaz is the central character in the four novels that currently make up The Lawman Series. The fifth book is expected out about Christmas of 2025. Richard Muniz: You indicated once that when you first went to meet Pastor Morgan, you were apprehensive. Sheriff Will Diaz: I didn’t have fond memories of the man. I mean he was your…

I got called over to retest some samples to determine whether we had an Actual Problem™️ on the line or with one of our instruments. when I got to the lab and dumped out the last sample an operator had tested………well, it was then that I knew they had fucked up
#WHY WOULD YOU PUT IT IN THE WELL IF IT LOOKED LIKE THAT 😭#telomirage.txt#the good news is the [redacted] was low but by a normal and not POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC amount#and the other one I was worried about had a similar issue#please 🙏🏼 keep it in developer 🙏🏼 long enough to fully decoat 🙏🏼 and then FULLY RINSE AND DRY IT OFF 🙏🏼 BEFORE YOU TRY TO MEASURE [REDACTED#because d is out tomorrow I get to wave around the 'bad' samples at morning market and beg them to follow procedure#inspector: u know. I did tell them to talk to d first instead of throwing u under the bus but I guess u ended up stuck with this anyway#me: thanks for trying

There is no chill and cool way to say “if you prescribe me a low dose of something for anxiety, a pap smear will be vastly less uncomfortable for everyone involved” without providers thinking you’re seeking drugs (and honestly? Yes I’m seeking a safe amount of a prescription drug to use once in the proper setting and then be done with?) but me almost passing out during my first pap scared the nurse practitioner pretty badly too so….
#I can and will do 600 mg ibuprofen and PT exercises for my pelvic floor and deep breathing and all that crap#but the odds the fight or flight reflex takes over when I’m in that office are high. especially if there’s pain#whyyyyy is the field of gynecology so fucking horrific.#why are we still using instruments/procedures developed by cis men forcibly experimenting on enslaved black women and sex workers#it’s a field built on the trauma pain and exploitation of those women who were put through excruciating violating procedures#and then we just said yeah perfect we’ll barely change any of that for the next few centuries#WHY#anyway. I’m never gonna shut up about this. bc pain and discomfort in gynecology is so often dismissed and normalized#and it took years before I learned that no it is not supposed to be that painful#years before I had the knowledge to ask my gyno relevant questions and get a PT referral because of pain#cape town rambles#I’m lucky that my gyno is empathetic and chill and does not gaslight me about my pain or discomfort. love her

Between Kal’tsit and Mont3r, the Church of the Deep’s experiments on Laurentina and now the information about Perlica receiving a spinal Originium injection to save(?!) her life I’m deeply curious as to why this is an established procedure and how the Church got it in their heads to try it
Who’s method was this originally and what is the intended result of spinal injections of originium? It’s all very interesting
#arknights#Endfield#though only tangentially#my money is a method/procedure developed by a pre amnesia doctor#as the foremost expert in originium#but no idea to what end
