Stanley is an absolute asshole and that's one of my favorite parts about him. Like yeah we can talk about his hidden heart of gold and whatnot, how he subtly shows his care for the kids and for his brother, but, like. He's still an asshole.

He has beef with multiple children! (Gideon and Pacifica, at the very least). And he has a reason--- defending his family--- but it's still beef with children! He regularly scams travelers out large amounts of money! He doesn't pay his employees! He insults people to their face! Even if he's doing it out of projection love, he still gives Dipper the short end of the stick, like, all the time. He opens a potentially world-ending portal just to get back his brother--- that's an asshole thing to do!

And this isn't a critique of Stan at all. But his churlish asshole nature is a beautiful part of him that makes him a really fun character. Being a good character doesn't = being a nice character. I'd even argue him becoming nicer isn't--- shouldn't be--- a requirement for his character development post canon. This is a guy who's yelling at other boaters over the radio. This is a guy who undoes your boat's drain plug 'cause you insulted his brother. Stan's a rude, penny-pinching curmudgeon that his family insists is nice deep down because he is--- to them. He don't give a shit about anyone else!

Let Stan be mean, dammit. He deserves it.

the panels in this ep genuinely are really great they're not terribly over the top besides a few and i think thats a good balance,,, i especially like the focus on the chief's reaction to all the changes that are going on in his life now that they have the choice of an alternative method (well,,, choice is said loosely LMFAO)

coming from last episode of lloyd going "oh yeah i love peace im a pacifist :)" to telling the demon kids "hey sometimes. theres people u need to beat up a bit. and people u need to beat up a LOT" and IT MAKES ME SMILE THAT THE KIDS TOOK THAT TO HEART HAHAHA

genuinely his poses in this ep are so stupid funny i love them sm . recently we've been seeing a lot of his face being Totally Evil Exaggeration or Seriously Going Through It but these goofy ass salesman poses and expressions are SOMETHING ELSE HAHA GOOD CHANGE OF PACE

and it's not like he's forcing their hand he's just stopping their usual avenues, bc he juuust so happens to be working in the area now for magentano,,,, honestly i think he would have put the chief into a corner at some point eventually, but it also seems like lloyd's efforts had also affected other aspects of the chief's life, like his relationship w his family and the other veneto hunters,,, which may have put the chief in the corner early,,, a matter of time, i suppose,,,?

like the chief had a lot of very like remorseful / realization type expressions in this ep, i really liked this one in particular,

and (okay i guess we're diving into the main thoughts now) i think now that i have the context of this ep for the previous week's ep, it kind of paints a picture of what exactly it was the adaptation team was going for. the venetos are prideful and rooted in inconvenient traditional ways, and lloyd's plan is a type of interference that twists that pride one way or another (though i dont think the chief feeling remorse after seeing his wife and child finally being okay with him was a part of lloyds plans LOL)

it,,, makes sense! and while yes it's due to lloyd's interference, it also feels like the chief is making a decision himself here, (in,,, in a way?) (not sure how to explain what i mean by that) like the chief absolutely sees how bad things had gotten under his original policies and outlook, and then saw the immediate change from just... changing the way they acquire goods. i really liked watching that happen, and it helps characterize him as someone who is so incredibly stubborn but really wants the best for his people, and the best he had known at that point was what they had done all this time.

this does makes me wish that ep 178 was handled with a lot more tact and awareness of what they are setting up for. i think if ep 178 had a similar tone as ep 179, it would have been received a bit better, maybe,,, of course i wouldn't know for sure, and i'm not sure how i'd rewrite it myself, but i think 179 handles the line between moments of thought and moments of gags a lot better than 178 (if that makes any sense). because of this, the chief in 179 feels different than the chief in 178,,, i would feel better about 179 showing his redemption process if 178 had been handled with just a bit more care. i don't think we needed to see a man bully/verbally abuse his family to show that the venetos are traditional in a detrimental way,,, while also nearly presenting everyone as a gag at that? man idk,,,

i'm not entirely sure still, maybe i'm just being sensitive or something, but regardless (and again), 179 feels a lot better than 178 so i'm really hoping this arc finishes strong,,,

anyway serious thoughts aside! WHEN LLOYD PULLED OUT THE CONTRACT I KNEW IT WAS OVER LLOYD HAD WON ALDKFJSDFHHAHAAAAA

I need everyone upset about Liam's promotion to understand that it had nothing to do with him being better/worse than Yuki. Yuki outperformed him. Yuki deserved the chance. BUT Yuki is not a Redbull driver. He is a Honda driver. He has no loyalty to Redbull and that is why he did not get a chance next to Max. It's not that he didn't deserve it. It's pure business.

Redbull are ending their relationship with Honda. They are creating their own engines. It's likely seen as a big liability to Redbull to have Yuki actively involved in any tests or even near anything involving the 2026 engine.

This is not an attack on Yuki or his character or anything like that, so please do not take it that way. But, Yuki's loyalty to a different engine manufacturer is a major risk to any new manufacturer like the Ford/Redbull powertrain. You just never know. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve a good drive, but Yuki's loyalty will forever be to Honda (as it should) and that poses a lot of risks for Redbull.

Once again, I am not commenting on Yuki's character or making assumptions about him when I say this, but there are a lot of big concerns if he gets promoted. He could ditch them for Aston immediately because Honda asks, he could share information about the new engine to Honda, or he could give questionable feedback that negatively impacts the new powertrain. Maybe he wouldn't do these things. But if there's even the most miniscule potential that he could, it would make any team hesitant. F1 is rampant with cheating allegations and questionable tactics to win. The teams will want to protect themselves in any eventuality. And that is what's working against Yuki so greatly.

Yuki has proven to be a very competent driver over the past year, but let's not forget that he nearly lost his seat in 2023 and the rumored reason he stayed is due to Honda. He owes his career to Honda, not Redbull. And at the end of the day, that's his main flaw within this team. It's not his driving. It's not his temper. It's not anything else. It's purely who he is aligned to poltically in the racing world. Is that fair? No. Is that how racing works? Unfortunately, yes.

There’s like, several asks in here about Cecil specifically and overblotting lol.

I’d give it an… eh? While everyone has the capacity to, I just for some reason don’t really see him falling off the deep end like that. Yeah, the guy has crappy luck and has mostly been dealt a bad hand (mainly at home, and the sass put onto the nearest person), but I wouldn’t say it’s *bleeds ink from every orifice* level resentment.

Everyone else (i.e the actual OverBlotters) are a completely different ballpark of deep-deep-rooted issues bubbling up gradually then exploding all at once.

I don’t know what would “break” him to a point where *bleeds ink from every orifice* would be a foregone conclusion. The pieces are hypothetically there on paper given the sheer amount of times I’ve been asked about it (all unposted), but I as I understand him (and I’d like to think I have a say) he doesn’t seem like the type that carries that much internal animosity or anguish. He’s sarcastic and has jealous streaks, but he doesn’t exactly hate himself either. He’s way too self aware.

There’s no edge to fall off of if somebody already came to terms with themselves and functions day-to-day as they come. If there’s one thing all the actual Overblotters deal with it’s openly coming to terms with their worst aspects that they refused to acknowledge-- which they only really do after the fact.

Cecil knows he’s petty, he knows he gets jealous, and he knows that he is good at magic but messes it up because he lets his low perception of how others view him get to him��� and with how magic works in that universe, if the castors imagination starts to go wrong, then so will a spells execution.

When stupid stuff inevitably happens to him outside of his control he copes with an eye roll, a perfectly-timed snide comment, or maybe bitching to his bird about it before carrying back on.

I don’t know if he has it in him to OB. He certainly has no interest in hurting outsiders over whatever he has going on in his personal life. Life’s unfair, it happens. Sometimes the universe likes pulling ironic jokes to rub it in for no reason. He can still be annoyed about it! Cecil might not be the most glass half-full, but people eventually are gonna see how great he sees himself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ sensational, even. Somehow.

Guess it’s a case of “he could have turned out way worse tbh”

Crookedstar -> Stormstar

For him to take back the name that was stolen from him by Rainflower and Hailstar would be satisfying for me. I don’t believe that cats would just sit around and start calling him Crookedkit/paw/jaw because of how cruel it was, and he would still be referred as as Storm by the closest people around him. When he becomes leader and receives his nine lives, he dawns on his true name: “Stormstar.” He can finally put the past to rest and look forward, in a way.

Deadfoot -> Vulturefoot

I actually used to really like Deadfoot’s name back as a kid, before I understood the implications of it. It had this really nice edge to the name that really spoke to me. Because of this, I wanted to give Deadfoot a new name that still reflected the vibes he already had. Vultures are birds that are commonly associated with death and I don’t think any warriors cats in canon have this prefix so it still is unique to him. Plus, Vultures are actually really sweet birds, so it suits his personality too!

Whitethroat -> Warblerthroat

Minor character in TPB that I liked and was sad that he died! This change is rooted in me not understand how his name could ever have been “Whitekit” and developing lore around ShadowClan so I can change it. ShadowClan has a lot of superstitions surrounding birth in the clan and one of them is that you never name your kit with the prefix “White” or other prefixes that are colored white because it is said to bring bad luck on the kit. Because ShadowClan relies on dense forest and marshlands for their way of life, they adapted to become one with the moving shadows across their territory. White or otherwise bright colored pelts stand out, and thus you can’t be as sneaky. Bright pelt colors already bring difficulties for a kit born in ShadowClan, and naming your kit as such would be bringing down a curse that will follow that kit throughout their life.

So Whitethroat, the predominantly black cat, is now named Warblerthroat after the bird because I like birds 😊
