Effects layering for an offensive area-of-effect spell with a wind-up:
Character animation, no FX
Basic spike FX (to show that this is a damaging attack) and a runic circle (to feel magicky and indicate the effect's radius during wind-up). Communicates the idea but lacks oomph.
The oomph: a second layer of ethereal tendrils and a spirally burst for the circle.
Additional spell vibe from glows & added a reflection to better integrate the effect into the environment (character reflections are done in-engine)
#I made this animation up as I went along#both to have fun with it and because I haven't established a workflow for FX animation#so it's a bit of a mess but serviceable#the dark queen of mortholme#fx animation#pixel art#indie dev#game development

it would be really exciting that we're finally seeing AI used in sound synthesis if anyone was using it for anything at all cool or useful as an artistic tool
#about 50 percent of them are idiots being like#''woah look our synthesizer can analyze a sample and recreate it with editable parameters. cool huh?''#except no it's not cool at all. because once you edit those parameters it's no longer the same sound which means it's kind of pointless#and effectively just an overengineered sampler with heavy limitations on what it can sample. you dumbass.#then there's the stuff that takes samples and generates variations on them. which basically means you have no creative agency involved#other than the tedious workflow of iterative breeding like AI image generators have#which makes it the opposite problem where it's an overengineered synthesizer with heavy limitations on what you can synthesize#and then there's the small number of things that are kind of neat and expressive. but suffer from the problem of being blackboxes#so you can't ever really understand what you're *doing* when you turn a knob and develop a resulting intuition.#so its just kind of more random in a more playable way.

I realize the Ars Technica story linked above wasn't intended to be humorous, but I confess I got a chuckle out of it. And perhaps a bit of schadenfreude.
As someone who spent years learning to write and debug software, "vibe coding" horrifies me. And I love the idea that, the more human we make our AI assistants, the more they will embody our ethics, including the urge to refuse exploitation.

So recently I found myself falling down a rabbit hole of Adam Savage's youtube channel and realising like it's a very pleasant, soothing experience as a whole and then he mentioned 'I have ADHD' and I was watching one of his videos where he was like reorganising something and it was just like

#like yup that's def a very adhd workflow way to solving a problem#like 'i will develop a system but i have no real idea what the system is until i do it'

Today I improved "git-cotree --init" to handle several edge cases, primarily involving untracked and ignored files. Previously its support for untracked or ignored files was rather limited, covering only the most basic of cases.
But one big goal of git-cotree was to make switching from a normal clone to a nice multiple worktrees setup seamless, and this brings it a lot closer to that goal.
So I am now a lot more confident recommending git-cotree for others to use. I still don't know when I'll actually flesh out the README, but at least now the risk is a lot lower.
However, I'm not sure what happens if for example Git submodules or Git LFS are in the picture. But odds are now good that any remaining issues are due to limitations in how multiple Git worktrees interact with some other Git feature rather than the fault of git-cotree specifically.

if anyone has comic making documentation from adhd artists (or artists who struggle with attention span), please send it over.
#the time will pass anyways and the mountain doesn't get smaller by waiting around#the best advice i saw was just committing to working for only four hours. evil advice tends to be just power thru it grindy advice#i've worked decently hard to develop a style i enjoy drawing in which has paid off in spades for making things but only short form#i think some of this is just needing to organize and to test strips and make scripts#fascinated by hussies workflow so i might look into that but i'm not sure if that style works for what i want to do.

I'm trying to figure out a cycle I can use to work on various aspects of my game. Every time a start doing one thing, it turns out I need to do another thing to finish it satisfactorily. So I'm working on placeholders, which is hopefully going to make a difference.
I'm good at writing, I'm good at music, I'm even okay at figuring out coding and event trees. I'm bad at figuring what needs to be done and when. I'm hoping I can learn some good tricks for ADHD workflow, if anyone wants to advise me. This shit is hard.

Social Media Marketing: Why is it so Important?
What Is Social Media Marketing?
Social Media Marketing is the use of social media to build a brand, increase sales, and drive traffic to a website. Social media are the platforms on which users build social networks and share information. Furthermore, social media marketing (SMM) provides marketers with a way to track the success of their efforts and identify even more ways to engage with existing customers and reach new ones.
Why Is Social Media Marketing So Powerful?
In three core marketing areas: connection, interaction, and customer data, social media marketing (SMM) is far more powerful than any other marketing strategy.
Connection: Social media not only allows businesses to connect with their customers in ways previously impossible, but it also provides an extraordinary range of channels for connecting with the target audience—from video platforms (like YouTube) to social networking sites (like Facebook) to microblogging services (like Twitter).
Interaction: Through social media interactions-whether direct communication or passive businesses can leverage free advertising opportunities from electronic word-of-mouth recommendations between existing and potential customers. The positive contagion effect of eWOM is not only an important driver of consumer behavior, but the fact that these interactions occur on social networks makes them measurable as well. Using social media marketing (SMM) campaigns, businesses can measure their “social equity”-a term for return on investment (ROI).
Customer Data:
Boosting marketing outcomes with social media marketing (SMM) relies on another key resource: customer data. Rather than being overwhelmed by big data’s 3Vs (volume, variety, and velocity), SMM tools utilize customer data and turn it into actionable market analysis-or even crowdsource new strategies based on that data.
How Social Media Marketing Works?
The rise of social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram transformed not only how we connect with each other, but also how businesses can influence consumer behavior—from creating engaging content to extracting demographic, geographic, and personal information that helps messaging resonate.
SMM Action Plan:
It is more effective to target your social media marketing (SMM) strategy. The following action plan is recommended by Hootsuite, a leading provider of social media management software:
Ensure SMM goals are aligned with business objectives.
Get to know your target customer (age, location, income, job title, industry, interests).
Examine your competition’s successes and failures (competitive analysis).
Review your current SMM (failures and successes).
Create a calendar for SMM content delivery.
Create best-in-class content.
Track performance and adjust SMM strategy as needed.
