the act of getting into a band/show/fandom(gross) is such an innate human experience and it needs to be more validated

going on pinterest and making boards and playlists and art and following people who share interest and changing your whole online persona to be about This Thing is so fucking fun and i feel like that process isn’t really discussed as often as it should be!

i’ve been “getting-into-bands” literally Professionally for years and i’ve got it down to a science! my step by step for truly the immersive fan experience and how i applied it to my most recent hyperfixation!

1. discovery! i heard korn was a cool band and tbh i literally started looking more into them because i watched that one south park episode and liked FAFM when they played it at the end. simple as.

2. expansion! look for a (and i cannot stress this enough) *FANMADE* BEST OF PLAYLIST (mine :3) and get the vibe/tone of it. add a couple songs to any of your other playlists and get used to hearing it normally

3. precision! from there, you can pick out certain themes/sounds/imagery that you like from certain eras and listen to more individual songs/albums INTENTIONALLY!

4. deep dive! (this part is the biggest for me but whatevs) watch interviews, read wikipedia articles, check out the member’s social media, immerse yourself in the intention and personality of the band until your eyes are dry! follow blogs and tags! talk to other people who feel how you do!

5. division! if you really like the band, search up the member’s names on spotify and see what they have solo-project-wise! i’m totally into Head’s solo work but JD and fieldy’s stuff aren’t what i’m into. look up if they have anything else going on! turns out Munky has done a lot of features with other bands and JD has a pet care brand! who knew?!

this method has worked for so many bands (mcr, boingo, misfits, the cure, etc) for so long that i think it’s the definitive One Way to truly absorb all that you can about bands :))

fav thing by far about the misfits is that jerry is always in that fucking collar and eye makeup. like you’ll see pictures of doyle wearing a hoodie and even pictures of him without makeup. you’ll see things of glenn wearing a suit or a tshirt but not jerry. i defy you to find one picture of that man wearing anything with a different energy than his little leather jacket. undefeated
