“Please.”

Alex’s voice is thick with need but she doesn’t care, can’t care.

Lucy doesn’t respond immediately. She just looks down at Alex with a bored expression.

She looks and looks and the scrutiny settles between Alex’s legs.

“Do you think you deserve it?” Lucy finally asks.

The question pulls a whine from deep in Alex.

“I’m not sure you do,” Lucy continues.

“Please,” Alex begs.

Lucy looks and looks and, “I’ll give you a choice,” she says. “You can come now, but just once, or you wait until I decide and I’ll make you come over and over again.”

Alex inhales deeply and hums. They really do love a good cup of coffee in the morning.

“Are you nervous at all?” Eve asks.

Alex takes a sip of coffee. Are they nervous?

“Yes and no,” they eventually say. “To be honest, I feel a lot less nervous than I did the first time I did this.”

“Seriously?” Coby asks from behind the camera.

Alex shrugs. 

“I mean, some of it may be because I’ve got experience with this,” they joke before quickly sobering. “Some of it might also be because-”

Because there’s no pressure this time around. Yes, they are on a show whose main goal is to end with Lucy receiving and accepting a proposal, but the choice to propose is ultimately Alex’s. They could walk away without a word and no one would stop them.

“Because I’m asking my best friend to marry me,” they say.

It is so, stupidly, fucking hot.

It is stupidly fucking hot and tourists are stupidly fucking stupid.

Alex blows her whistle again and gestures for the boys and men - it is almost always boys and men - swimming too far out to move closer back to the shore.

Even at a distance she can see them object, and just blows her whistle again.

Finally, they start back in and Alex scans the rest of the crowd.

Everything is good.

Everybody is safe.

The Cute Tourist is back.

“You plan on surfing all day tomorrow?” Lucy asks from around her cup of coffee.

“No.” Alex shakes their head. “I’m flying to Midvale in the morning.”

They see Lucy blink.

“You're flying to Midvale? Is everything okay?” she asks, brow furrowed with concern.

“Everything’s fine,” Alex reassures her. “A family friend’s daughter is having her bat mitzvah tomorrow and I promised months ago that I’d be there.”

They want to hate how easily the half truth slips from their lips. Jamie is having her bat mitzvah tomorrow and Alex had told her that they would be there, but they hadn’t outright promised her.

They watch Lucy relax. 

“Of course you did, Danvers,” she says.

Alex raises an eyebrow. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Nothing much.” She shakes her head, a fond smile playing at the corner of her lips. “Just, you can always trust Alex Danvers to follow through on a promise.”

Alex looks down at their own cup of coffee. 

“Not always,” they mutter.

“When it counts, then,” Lucy amends.

Coming to you a little late because life, but, here we are. January first happens to be a Sunday this year, so that's where we're starting. The prompts through the week are

He knew this because the cube had been in the possession of Scroll refugees, who'd hoped that with it, Mar Vell could make a portal to said other end of space.

Fury, whose secrets have secrets because he knows all the things, who agreed to make weapons with the damn thing SHIELD was lucky to have found "before" Hydra, didn't consider that this toy was a doorway. It took an explanation from an assassin (Barton) for Nick to underhand that said door could potentially be opened (or even just tampered with) from both sides.
