Ok oh my god. OH MY GOD. I just saw treasure planet for the first time and It was fucking amazing. Like yeah Duh I KNOWWW i know it’s like. “underrated Disney movie bla bla it was a commercial failure” . You know the deal.

But if there is 1 thing I want to say:

I cannot emphasize enough how meaningful and touching it is to the audience when you allow your male main characters to cry, and hug, and be emotionally vulnerable without shame. That brought this film to a whole new level 🥺

its a beautiful movie that took so many creative risks and that’s so admirable. It’s so clear they had a vision and they crafted that vision with endless amounts of love :’] I DID CRY.

I was CONSISTENTLY delighted by how creative the characters were and incredibly entertained throughout. So fucking fun and engaging and it feels like a 2 hour movie so much happens. How is it only 1.5 hours.

I CRIED !!!!!!!!!! John Silver and Jim’s relationship was so COMPLEX like actually amazing. The father figure dynamic is so sweet and heartwarming and so heartbreaking simultaneously like I was not expecting that AMV montage in the middle like that shit cut me so deep it was outstanding. A montage about Jim’s troubled childhood with a neglectful absent father and then DIRECTLY PARALLELING THAT WITH HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH SILVER. LIKE HES FINALLY OVERCOMING THOSE FEELINGS AND LIVING HIS LIFE. GODDAMN!!! THATS SO POWERFUL!! THATS SO INCREDIBLE!!! THATS JUST IN THE MOVIE!!!!??!

Also the character/creature designs are RELENTLESS in how good they are. And they have so much fun with it. It’s so silly.

The animation is also MIND BLOWINF like OH MY GOD!??? the seamless integration of 2D and 3D interacting is so impressive especially for 2001 like this was a technological feat for sure . Only rarely does the CG look dated (those whales at the start <\3 poor guys) BUT JOHN SILVER’S CYBORG ARM WAS FUCKING AMAZING LIKE I COUKD STARE AT THAT THING FOR HOURS .

Can’t find a gif of it but during his introduction there was a ROTATING SHOT of him cooking (❤️) while using his arm and his arm has so many tools inside it like a cyborg Swiss Army knife it’s the coolest fucking thing ever. Just Amazing

Also the fact they introduced an entirely new character 53 minutes in when the main cast has already been established was such a risk, but it so paid off. I love B.E.N. Morph could’ve been a really obnoxious comedic relief animal sidekick but they somehow managed to make him really cute and likable. (Also They only used him for plot points A LITTLE. Captain Amelia was fucking awesome for the first half of the movie. One of the best characters. Yeah. ……………. They fumbled her so hard. MAYBE ITS JUST ME BUT ME AND MY FRIEND WERE NOT A FAN OF HER AND DELBERT AT ALL. Disney was like. We have a competent woman character ! Competent woman has to get injured and then the incompetent man has to take care of her and then they HAVE to fall in love. It’s actually so tragic like they did NOT deserve her.

IN FACT HERE’S MY SCORCHING HOT TAKE: Delbert should’ve been the one to get injured and Amelia nurses him back to health. Delbert might apologize profusely because of his self confidence issues and cuz he internalizes things that go wrong as his fault. Amelia reassures him, realizing that she was too harsh on him earlier. Delbert becomes less intimidated by her because she opens up to him and they grow to trust one another. Amelia stays with him while Jim goes to hide. And whapow !!!! Same relationship is built up without disempowering a female character. It doesn’t even have to be romantic they can just be friends……. 🫶 cuz it comes off as weird because since the start Delbert was like “wtf the captain is a GIRL?? Wait ooh la laaa she’s pretty” and she had 0 interest in him. so like the ONLY way they could pair them together was to get her injured and have him care for her . And she falls in love with him out of nowhere. No. Being cared for does not mean you’ll fall in love with your caretaker. She’s so ace coded to me and my friend. Until SUDDENLY. Am I crazy

Ok so like yeah the forced heterosexual love interest moment. I did not want to see their FOUR (4) hybrid babies at the end. I’m losing my mind. also did Jim become a cop? I swear to fucking god LOL

Analise Yan was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 21st, 1997 to an Irish-American mother and a Chinese father. Her mother was a set designer and her father was a talent manager. Analise has no memories of her life without a camera in her face, her first memory being of her on the early 2000's sitcom "Our House" when she was just three years old. She had a very successful acting career, becoming a silver-screen darling before age ten. She scored multiple TV show roles, direct to VHS/DVD movie roles, and began a music career.

Her music career was primarily targeted towards children her own age, performing on the Disney channel and having her music videos showcased on Nickelodeon. In 2007 at just ten years old, she starred in the popular and now classic Nick TV show iCarly as the character "Melody" who acted as Carly and Spencer's youngest sister.

Her run on iCarly was shortlived as in the second season in 2008, she would leave the show due to unknown reasons and would disappear from the American entertainment industry for good.

She also would say she was a big fan of f(x), 2NE1, and Wonder Girls and they inspired her to take up Flowerbank's offer to begin training for the third generation of Allume.

Though showing exceptional talent at just 13 in singing and dancing, she was heavily scrutinized by netizens for a multitude of reasons. From her mixed heritage to her "annoying" persona, she seemed to be the target of online harassment. The harassment continued off-screen as well, often being yelled at by fans of the other members to "get out of the way" or having marriage proposals shouted at her.

Despite having a hate train against her, she remained one of the most popular members during her run in Allume many comparing her to the likes of Jung Krystal or Bae Suzy in terms of icon status and notoriety. She's easily considered one of the most widely-known idols in South Korea in the 2010s.

Analise's funeral, against the wishes of her family and loved ones, was very publicized. The entire industry mourned the beloved child star turned superstar, all of her co-workers, co-stars, and labelmates attending her funeral as well as other notable celebrities. Hundreds of fans gathered to pay their respects at various balloon-releasing ceremonies and fans held memorial services.

Flowerbank would create a memorial site for Analise in their building for fans to mourn her, leave letters and flowers for her, and celebrate her as an artist. The memorial site is still up in their museum.

•Micky was a former scene kid in the early 2000s, and he still has two semi-long faded side tails. He hasn’t gotten rid of them yet because he things their cool, so he just has very curly hair and then medium sized straight side tails

•Micky, Davy, Peter enjoy watching Total Drama Island, 6teen, and That 70s Show together. Mike enjoys the office more, but he occasionally watches the other shows sometimes

•Micky and Coco went to Woodstock 1999. They left very early Sunday, so they didn’t get to witness the fires and chaos that happened later Sunday night

•Micky’s family dog, You, died in 2004. He got a cat when he moved into the Pad, and he named it ‘You’ after his old dog

•Peter is OBSESSED with sea animals and the ocean in general. He has a sea creatures calendar, dolphins Lisa Frank posters all over his room, jellyfish jewelry(made of plastic because Peter doesn’t like the feel or smell of metal), he has wind chimes that has ocean as the theme, he even has watched H2O, Just Add Water over and over again

•Mike has a very minimalist room. The fanciest thing he has is a Tiffany style lamp for his night stand lamp

•Micky likes to explore on the internet, like ARG’s, random websites, chain mail, and the ‘creepy’ side of Youtube(Y’know that whole meme in the late 2000s and 2010s about creepy sides of YT? Yeah stuff like that)

•Micky has a lot of things decorating his car, like car fresheners hanging from his rear/view mirror, random bobbly heads on his dashboard, one of those steering wheel covers

•Peter enjoys to sit in silence with Mike. He can be sewing while Mike is reading, he can be baking while Mike watches him, in general Peter just likes to spend some quiet time with Mike

•Mike hates strong smells. He usually takes Davys care because Micky usually has lingering strong smells from car fresheners. •Mike usually scratches his semi-solid form, creating light to emit from him. It’s basically like him banging his head against the wall, because light can make him weak

•Micky’s arms and legs fade to blue at the ends. So his arm and legs are like green, turquoise, then blue

•Davy has to eat alone, because both Peter and Mike are queasy about blood. Micky doesn’t care because he eats raw fish

•Micky’s favorite foods are raw salmon and cod, fish tacos, mango smoothies, and sushi

•Davy turns into his bat form when he’s either scared or shy of things, usually people

•Micky’s eyes are pitch black, easy for him to see in the dark

•Micky has both gills and lungs

•Peter has thorns going up his arms, legs, and neck. They usually puncture his skin and cause him to bleed, but he’s used to it so he doesn’t mind. He clips them weekly though. He also doesn’t like long nails so Davy and Micky file and clip their nails down

•Mikes lower body trails off and fades into the air. As well as his body can either grow stronger or weaker depending on the light

•Peter likes to grow patterns in leaves, flowers, and trees. Peter: Micky look! I put hearts in this leaf!!

•Micky once got so stuck and tangled in fishers nets and hooks that his fins and lower legs almost got cut off. Davy was able to get him out(both peter and Mike can’t get in water) and Micky had to wear bandages for months. He still limps on that leg when he’s on land

•Mike doesn’t have any lights in his and Micky’s rooms due to being weak in light. Micky doesn’t mind because he can see in the dark

•Usually Mike has breakdowns or freak outs because of the voices, and he always asks Micky if he can hear them too. Micky never knows what he’s talking about, and it usually freaks Micky out when Mike asks him because Mike is genuinely fearful of the other shadows voices

•Davy has pre-mature wings, causing his flight to be impaired and it’s difficult for him to fly in his bat form

•Peter has to sometimes cut off dead plants from his skin, but he doesn’t enjoy it because the plants are literally attached to his body. Same goes for fall and winter, when the plants are dying on his body

Fried as fuck from straightening and like 20 cans of hair spray just to get it all down I know that shit crunched like a dead leaf.

Also I totally agree with Mike being super sensitive to strong smells, it's the same way in my canon. It causes big sensory overload especially if there's other stuff going on in the room (people talking, bright lights, general noises) and people usually think he's weird for his several sensitivities so he tries to just hide them but sometimws it can end up in meltdowns or just totally shutting down and going nonverbal due to the overload.

TJOSE THREE DEFINITELY WOULD'VE LOVED TOTAL DRAMA ISLAND they would definitely rope mike into it at some point

Once again, my musical theatre-book nerd ass is thinking about how we were robbed of a good Disney adaptation of Phantom of the opera. And I don't mean present day Disney. No, no, I mean 80-90's Disney, maybe early 2000's Disney. They'd never be able to pull it off now. No way. Not with this 3D animation, not with the direction of how they're taking stories. And I don't mean Encanto or Turning Red. Wish was.... Not great. It was practically a disaster.

Phantom would have been gorgeous in the 90's, don't tell me it wouldn't. Especially with how Hunchback turned out. Hunchback is probably the most beautifully animated film, Disney ever created. And if they could turn Hunchback- which is miles darker than Phantom- into a Disney film, they could do it with POTO.

It will always baffle me, how they adapted Hunchback but not Phantom. There was so much potential. Howard Ashman writing the songs? Oh, fuck yes please. Granted, it would have had to have been before he died but the man would have done the novel justice. If not Howard, then Stephen Schwartz, or Alan Menkin.

Thinking about what movies each of the ot4 would like.

Ava spent a lot of time watching those movies that played on cable all of the time. She one spent a night dreaming Die Hard from start to finish. Once She was able to, I think she grabbed that '1000 movies to see before you die' and went to town (while constantly making jokes about how she a little late, since she's died two or three times now)

Bea truly does enjoy documentaries. However, she secretly watches ones about pop culture, for two reasons: a) so she can understand when Ava and Cam start speaking in movie quotes and references, and b) to try to get caught up on the stuff she missed between strict parents, boarding school, and being a nun.

Camila just loves movies. She'll watch almost anything once (more than once if Lilith asks her to). She has a preference for mysteries, because she loves figuring them out before the reveal.

Lilith likes movies with straightforward plots and lots of explosions. Think Jerry Bruckheimer in the late 90s-early 2000s. She likes to turn her brain off and watch pretty people blow things up for 90 minutes. She also secretly likes off beat comedies; finding Airplane!, Clue, and Josie and the Pussycats on tv will derail her plans immediately, so that she can watch them (she whispers every line, with a small genuine smile on her face).

I also think they all love Disney movies, but Camila pre-screens them to make sure nothing is going to trigger them (Encanto sent both Beatrice and Lilith into trauma crisis on first viewing).

I would like to talk about how just because a movie is kid-friendly it doesn't mean it's childish.

Older Disney movies from the beginning to the early 2000s and 2010s (generalization) were kid-friendly.

In their adaptations of fairy tales, they would get rid of excessive gore, rape, and some deaths.

They would add songs and some funny moments, so the movie isn't depressing from start to finish. It makes those darker moments so much darker.

They implied things instead of straight up showing them, like using shadow to show that Clayton hanged himself instead of showing his body.

There is obviously a happy ending.

Now modern Disney feels like what people assume all Disney movies are like.

Fight scenes that lack any kind of bite or edge. You don't feel like anyone is ever in danger or fighting with all their might for their life. Stick Fighting in Frozen 2 comes to mind. Or fights in Raya

Because most Disney movies now lack a villain there is no epic fight where the bad guy bites the dust. Instead, they sing a little song or think that someone died but then come back.

I don't think you've missed any. I don't mind the different forms villains can take, or whether or not they're defeated by fighting, personally. But I do worry that all movies (not just Disney) are getting too eager to blur the lines between evil and good, and just flirt with morally grey concepts. That's not awesome for kids' movies. The reason it's smart to tell a kid that sometimes evil dragons just need to get a sword to the heart is because kids themselves are not old enough yet to decide, when they encounter evil, how much to embrace and how much to fight. If you tell them "hurt people hurt people, there's really no such thing as bad guys," they won't grasp the basic concept of "RUN FROM OR FIGHT EVIL."

That's the scary part. They'll try to be nice to bad guys, or talk to them, when they should be rejecting them. I mean, it's fine to teach a kid to be gracious toward problematic friends and family, like Lilo and Belle do. But it's necessary to show right and wrong very clearly. And we're losing some of that clarity. That's all I have to say on the matter.

House of Leaves - Mark Z. Danielewski Review

If you haven’t read it, House of Leaves is a post-modern book written by Mark Z. Danielewski in 2000 written in epistolary form. It’s a story within a story within a story within a story. What do I mean by that? Well at the heart of House of Leaves is The Navidson Record, a proposed documentary about a photographer, Will Navidson, who buys a house to reconnect with his family; his partner Karen Green and their children, Chad and Daisy.

Not missing any opportunity to work, Navidson sets up cameras around the house to capture little moments of their daily lives. Then one day, they notice that the inside of the house is a little bigger than the outside. Then a little bigger. And bigger. Then one day a doorway that wasn’t there before appears in the living room of the house. Opening the doorway they find a hallway. The bulk of The Navidson Record is the exploration of that hallway.

So I say bulk of The Navidson Record, isn’t this the book? Well, yes and no. Because taking a step back, we have Zampano. Zampano is a blind uh, I guess maybe former academic? Zampano is examining the truthfulness of The Navidson Record, touching on the filming style of it. Examining the lives of Navidson and Karen. Delving into critical discussions, photography, architecture, Biblical studies. Only House of Leaves doesn’t stop here.

Because Zampano recently died. So we’re introduced to Johnny Truant, who was introduced to the deceased Zampano through his friend Lude, who knows that Truant will love this guy’s apartment and the rabbit hole of The Navidson Record. So we’re also given through Truant’s footnotes of the story his life story; way more of his sexual encounters than I cared to know about, his lusting over a stripper who frequents the tattoo parlor he works for named Thumper, on account of her tattoo based on the Disney’s Bambi character.

Finally, we have the unnamed Editors of House of Leaves, who are adding footnotes to all of the above throughout the entirety of the story. Also keeping in mind is the author, Mark Z. Danielewski and the reader, all taking part in this story, published now twenty-three years ago.

So House of Leaves is a book I’ve *attempted* to read several times and failed to do so until this past week, when I devoured the book. As I sit here writing this, I’m sort of mixed on whether devouring House of Leaves is the proper way to read it, or if not reading it alongside another book, sort of ploddingly moving through it would not have been the better method.

House of Leaves is fairly infamous at this point, unlike when I first heard about it. It’s funny because it’s origins are similar to The Blair Witch Project. I remember people claiming that no, this book was based on true events, which of course plays right into the post-modernity style Danielewski was going for. Critiquing literature and literature critics. One of the reasons it’s infamous for the style the book is written in. So I described the layers of the onion, so to speak, but I’ve read and watched quite a few opinions of the book at this point and I agree that the book in and of itself is the labyrinth of The Navidson Record.

That is you’re meant to get lost in it and like a labyrinth, there are dead ends. Unlike a labyrinth, I can’t say that at this point, twenty-three years into the story that I enjoyed “solving” the labyrinth. And that’s primarily for the Johnny Truant sections of the book. Johnny is fairly certain that The Navidson Record is a fabrication, which to me, along with the story of Johnny’s mother, Pelefina, her notes, is actually a fairly big clue that Johnny is falsified.

Post modernism was a huge thing in the early aughts, where I don’t feel like its influences today are as far reaching, but pretty cliché by this point in time. But there was The Blair Witch Project, like I said that had the is this real-is this not real and all of the commentary that came with that. In video gaming you have Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, a post-modern video game, which critiques the very people playing the game, playing off their expectations of what a sequel to Metal Gear Solid should be. There’s Mulholland Dr., which came out the same year as House of Leaves and is playing with *very* similar themes and to me, is superior.

So because of Johnny’s mothers letters, it seemed pretty clear to me that Johnny, the Johnny we’re reading about, is a fabrication of Pelefina. Her letter about creating a son who could live the life she never had is written nine months before Johnny’s birth. I think Pelefina actually choked Johnny to death and everything else that happens in House of Leaves is her way of coping with having done this, ala Diane in Mulholland Dr. and the events of that movie being a fever dream of Diane’s.

Anyway, so like this is all just interpretation and there’s probably no “answer”. That’s one aspect of post-modernity that I do like, the chin stroking that happens from it is just part of the cycle of this stuff. So do I like House of Leaves? A day after finishing it. Sitting here thinking about it, I like it more today than I did yesterday. I bounced off Truant’s footnotes pretty hard while reading it. As I write this though, I like the idea of that story quite a bit (the slight comparing it to Mulholland Dr. is no slight, that’s a Top 10 movie for me). The Navidson Record parts were pretty great, especially the earlier parts. Some of the later parts didn’t hit as hard for me, especially as they escape the house, but I also didn’t read this in optimal conditions. Oh, but I did *love* The NeverEnding Story aspect of House of Leaves being a book within House of Leaves. And I sort of wonder if like being frustrated by the Truant parts is akin to being frustrated by the labyrinth. I would have liked to learn more about Zampano, I think some of what we learned about him is interesting and I think I’d prefer that over Truant, but then that’s kind of the point of my interpretation.

Would I recommend House of Leaves? That’s a hard sell for me. Because how do you succinctly sell House of Leaves to someone in a way that doesn’t ruin the surprises or put them off the book? I feel like *most* people who want to read this story will seek it out and I think the reader knows pretty early on whether or not this story is for them.

COMFORT MOVIE CHALLENGE: MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND

Released in 1996, his is the second Muppet feature film directed by Brian Henson, based on a classic work of literature and released in partnership with the Walt Disney Company (before the aquisition of the Muppet franchise by Disney was really officialized in the early 2000s), after 1992′s The Muppet Christmas Carol.

This time adapting the famous children’s pirate adventure novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, they cast the human actors Kevin Bishop as Jim Hopkins, Tim Curry as Long John Silver, Billy Connoly as Billy Bones, and Jennifer Saunders as tavern owner Mrs. Bluveridge, while the Muppet actors are Kermit the Frog as ship Captain Smollet, Miss Piggy as Smollet’s fiancee Benjamina Gunn, Sam the Eagle as Mr Arrow, Fozzie Bear as Squire Trelawney and the duo of Gonzo and Rizzo as eighteen century versions of themselves.

Meant as an energetic adventure and musical comedy movie for the whole family, the film is quick to extablish the characters of Jim Hopkins, Gonzo and Rizzo as three on their luck tavern workers.

Rizzo is sardonic and prefers a life of comfort, safety and plenty of food, while Jim (who here is portrayed as a young orphan of both parents) and Gonzo dream of excitement travelling trough the seas.

One of the clients of the tavern, former pirate Billy Bones, dies, leaving the map to find the treasure of Pirate Captain Flint to Jim, while pirates burn the tavern down.

So the trio goes to ask the rich Squire Trelawney a ship to search for the buried treasure. Squire Trelawney, a person of unconventional mind that confindes in an imaginary friend who lives in his finger, called Mr Bimbo, is excited with the idea, and presents to them the ship called Hispaniola, that shall be comanded by Captain Smollet and his right hand man Mr Arrow.

Among the crew that Squire Trelawney hires for the travel, Jim, Gonzo and Rizzo meet the ship cook Long John Silver, a charismatic man with a dark sense of humour, who becomes a close friend of Jim.

The young boy, naive and longing for a father figure, becomes trusty of Long John, while Gonzo and Rizzo, neglected by Jim, feel something is off with the cook, because before dying Billy Bones had warned them to beware of a one legged man, a description that fits Long John, who has only one leg and walks with a cane.

Jim is the normal every person who acts and is a surrogate for the audience, that gets emerged in the colorfull world of the port, the ship and the island.

You get a nice balance of chaotic meta humour of the 70s version of the Muppets with dramatic acting and character focus that would become strong in the 90s.

While the main cast of characters is firm in being their roles and invested in their emotional conflicts, you get little fourt wall breaking jokes like rat tourists visiting the location in modern atire right while the movie is being made, Statler and Waldorf as two wood ship figureheads who makes about the movie and a small cameo of the Swedish Chef dressed as a parody of an island native preparing to cook the imprisoned Rizzo, Gonzo and Smollet while the vegetables say to the audience “Well, how did you expected we would put him in the movie?”

And being a Muppet movie musical, you can expect well elaborated numbers presentings fun, beautifull, catchy songs the somber opening villain song“Shiver my Timbers”, the I Want song “Something There”, the epic “Sailing for Adventure”, the hilariously random “Cabin Fever”, the intimidating “Boom Shakalaka”, the romantic ballad “Love Led Us Here” and the dancing relaxing reggae “Lover Power”, courtesy of none other than Bob Marley’s son Ziggy Marley.

This colorfull, age of sail musical fantasy with Muppets gives a strong atmosphere that reminds of the joy of summer. 

There is an entertaining combination of character drama, action, a touch of a horror atmosphere, romance and the goold old comedy that only the Muppets can, and it now enters in the list of my favorite movies, that is probably the best pirate movie ever made.

twst: HMMMMM LET ME THINK ABOUT IT. okay okay let's see. well, first of all, i'm not a fan of the time loop theory simply because i'm not a fan of time loop tropes in general. i'm pretty sure there was a time (i think it was like.. late 2000's-early 2010's? maybe even earlier) where like ALMOST EVERY SINGLE VISUAL NOVEL, GAME, ANIME, MANGA, ETC (but especially vns), used that trope AND I HATED IT SO MUCH. i love it when time loops are used to make a character go through the same painful event over and over again to completely change their character, but most of the time (haha get it) time loops feel like.. basically it's like writers use them to just explain everything that doesn't exactly make sense in-universe. why does this character say mc looks familiar to them and doesn't elaborate? well that's because they've seen them before in previous loops! why does mc know how this world works even though they've never been there? well that's because time loop! why do these two characters are in love with each other even though they've never even talked? well that's because they were in love in previous loops! i can talk about my hatred for that trope for hours, honestly.

okay, let's talk about characterization. tbh there's not much i can say because.. let's be honest, even though twst characters are definitely deep and interesting and fun, their personalities feel a bit "limited"(?) mostly because of their disney counterparts or because of how strong certain traits of their personalities are. and i'm not complaining.. mostly. i really wish some characters had more personality traits. but what i really hate is when some writers just.. throw away all the "ugly" or "unlikeable" traits of those characters to make them more "imagines-friendly". like i'm sorry, but sometimes i just read some fics and go "he would NOT say that". i know that people love the "OH BUT HE'S NICE TO Y/N" trope, i use it too sometimes, but like.. some people just really forget that this game is about characters who are literally based on disney villains. like it's okay, let them have flaws. and i don't mean those flaws that are like "omg he's so shyyyy >///<" or "hehe he can ramble a lot <3" NO. I MEAN ACTUAL FLAWS.

like, listen, i'm a 0104 shipper. i see their relationship as romantic but i absolutely have nothing against platonic interpretations. but when people see something like ship art and go "muu is literally a lesbian btw" i'm like. i have so many hcs too but it's one thing to say that "hey i think this headcanon is very plausible and i think it's very neat" and to go "IT'S LITERALLY CANON" unironically and not as a joke. like idk, i'm just that kind of person who has lots of headcanons but until i see them actually being confirmed, i won't try to make people change their mind. kazui is a whole different thing, i really was interested in the whole "yeah he's gay actually" theory and i love the memes, but now that people are saying it's "officially" canon and lowkey just. kinda being annoying, yeah, i don't even want to look at the tag anymore because i want to see actual theories and i don't want to see another "yeah he's gay so vote him inno". i'm not here to say that it's a dumb reason to forgive him, since we are literally allowed to have all kinds of reasons to forgive a character, but i think it's a weird thing to say when this guy really does seem like a very deep character, but i can't take him seriously anymore because of those theories that don't even sound like theories (and i mean it in a bad way and not bc they sound so canon)

twst: honestly, this fandom mostly has like.. people-related drama, like this artist/writer/etc did something problematic, things like that. but i think if i had to choose a topic that annoys me the most.. these two topics kinda go together but i'll start with mc's gender. it actually doesn't get discussed that often, since we're supposed to see them as a self-insert, but i've really seen people say things like "mc is obviously supposed to be female" or "mc is obviously supposed to be male", etc.

i'm not going to pretend that i don't have my own opinion and i'm going to say that tbh i see twst mc as being male (one of the reasons why my mc is a guy), but that's mostly just because i usually prefer to play as a guy when it comes to games like that. (honestly if i have a choice, i choose fem mcs very rarely, stelle is like one of the few exceptions) however, i never try to prove why i'm right, i just kinda go "eh you do you". but i'm not gonna lie, those who believe that mc is female are the most annoying ones, like i get it, of course, a large part of twst fandom are women who are attracted to men, but also. there are. so many otome games. no literally a huge reason why i often don't feel comfortable playing otome games is because I HAVE NO IDEA WHY but i really just don't want to play as a girl and i don't want those characters to see my mc as a girl. (i rarely see my mc as a self-insert btw and almost always see them as their own character) LIKE I DON'T KNOW CAN'T PEOPLE WHO SEE THEIR MCS AS MALE/NB HAVE SOMETHING. like i literally love twst and obey me (i really should play it more often but again. my phone doesn't like it and idk if it will run on my tablet) exactly because of how "genderless" their mcs feel and that i can just see them as whatever gender i want them to be. and idk it just.. doesn't feel good when people are trying to remind me that "btw mc is obviously supposed to be a girl" especially when i already kinda know that considering the audience/demographic.

the second topic was probably more popular to discuss when i first got into the game and when it first came out: character x mc or character x character. i was a big character x character enjoyer and didn't really care about character x mc at first until i got interested in riddleyuu and malleyuu. but yeah, watching those sides fight was like. guys you both are losing. like some character x character fans were being mean and hating on self-inserts and some character x mc fans were saying things like "y'all just want more guys to ship". and like. there's nothing wrong with both of those things like calm down. i still can see people arguing because of that, but i just try to ignore them now tbh.

hey! just ran into that amazing artwork you posted with that horrible reblog. i'm so sorry that happened! i probably should have said this before, BUTTT i hope i can use this as a chance to shower your art with love! i ran into your comics for the first time last year either during bo-katan week or after it (most likely after). bo is definitely one of those characters that is misunderstood. i don't mean misunderstood in an "early 2000s YA bad boy love interest" way, but more like a "she's very complex and she's a tough nut to crack, so its hard to get a read on her" way. yes, she's made mistakes and no one is more critical of all those mistakes and what that cost than Bo-Katan herself, and you clearly get that. you've shown that in your comics. there's something about your style that shows the firecracker she is, but also the fact that she is a younger sister, and she's all alone in this world. every single person who once stood by her and protected her is now gone. satine is gone because of her actions. she knows that, and she needs to live with that. something about her is mixed with tragedy (very "macbeth in act 5 when he found out his wife died" core).

In return for all your buster keaton images and info I have a guy for you… well maybe a couple guys. You probably already know of Heath Ledger but my little sister and I watched A Knights Tale and 10 Things I Hate About You (both amazing films 11/10 would recommend) back to back this evening so I have him on the mind. I’d also been trying to convince a bunch of people to watch A Knights Tale because I love love love that movie especially Paul Bettany as Chaucer and Alan Tudyk in it. (Alan Tudyk does a lot of great voiceover work like he plays the Duke of Weasltown in Frozen and Duke Weasleton in Zootopia which makes that Disney inside joke even funnier, as well as a bunch of other animal/non human characters where he doesn’t actually speak words at all, like Hei Hei in Moana. And he’s great as Wash in Firefly. And Paul Bettany is best known now for his role as Vision in the mcu. But they’re both completely fantastic in this movie especially Bettany because his Chaucer is just so charismatic and witty and animated and flamboyant and has the most fantastic coat and I love it.) And of course Heath Ledger is just so pretty and talented and by all accounts a really kind and good person and y’know kinda tragic because he died fairly young of an overdose and he won best actor that year but he didn’t live to receive the Oscar and like. I saw a forum post asking would you still get into Pokémon if it come out today and like, that's an insane question because I can't even imagine that world. I dont necessarily mean that as a Pokémon fan but in the sense of everything Pokémon has influenced. People were saying they probably would because they would've grown up loving Digimon, but no you wouldn't have lol. All the adjacent things people love like Digimon and probably Yugioh to some extent exist as they are because of Pokémon's popularity. Pokémon itself owes its existence to Dragon Quest but DQ is not as popular as Pokémon.

But on top of all that the first generation of Pokémon could not be made today. Those designs and that vibe is so violently rooted in the 90s. Baxcalibur and Bellibolt are like the most gen 1 designs we've seen in forever and thats cuz Bellibolt is probably a revision of a gen 2 design. Today that series would release with Tem Tem level designs where no one really put any thought into them at all, and it would be a gacha game that would make a shitzillion dollars and then shut down randomly because Nintendo is weird. I think in the modern torrential pace of how often things come and go in the entertainment industry it would not have had the staying power it did back when it was the only thing like it. Dragon Quest actually might have just cornered the market on the monster collecting genre in the 90s or early 2000s. Its a crazy alternate universe to imagine. As a performer

Ann Serrano began her career in media in 1995 when she appeared in Disney’s The Wonderful World of Disney. She also made an appearance in the Curb Your Enthusiasm movie from 2000. She had an appearance in George Lopez’s parody series in 2002.

In 2003, she also contributed to the movie Arrested Development. As a dissident, Lopez has also done a great deal of charitable work and raised awareness of problems. In 2013, she also appeared on a discussion program.
