Title: Sacrament

My photography mixed with drawings and typography, edited in Photoshop.

The artwork represents my own "sacrament." "Sacrament meaning: a religious ceremony or ritual. A sacred or spiritual power is believed to be transmitted through material elements viewed as channels of divine grace."

I was raised in a Christian household. I never really fully understood religion but nonetheless I followed and obeyed. In university this changed for me as I discovered critical thinking lol.

The artwork represents my own sacrament. My baptism. Becoming my own person.

Week 1 Disrupt: 13/10/23

After the torso charcoal drawings, I wanted to work from primary source life drawing to receive a more accurate portrayal of body features.

I found used string on the floor of the drawing studio, which looked to have been half black and dragged through paint… I decided I wanted to reuse this string for my next sketch!

I wrapped the string around my arm and tied it, but not quite tight enough to receive the warping effect.

I tried again slightly tighter and began drawing

Using B, 4B and 12B pencils, this was my result…

I used my finger to smudge the graphite (as I didn’t have a paper stump) I then used a rubber to clean it up a bit afterwards. This drawing came out better than I expected, I feel it gives a great life-like quality to it… It reminds me of a black and white photograph!

Super inspired by @weevildead 's michael painting! I hesitate to post this bc it was super experimental, and i hate the hair and how unblended the edges are w the obvious layers and weird blurring and stray marks...but idc im posting it.
