How to Protect Your Business Data: Simple Backup Practices You Shouldn’t Ignore
Let’s face it—no one really thinks about data backups until something goes wrong. Maybe it’s a system crash, a cyberattack, or even a simple human error. But once it happens, the panic is real. The truth is, no matter how small or big your business is, your data is its lifeline. And keeping it safe should be a top priority—not just a “we’ll do it later” task.
Here’s a breakdown of some practical, real-world backup strategies that every business owner, manager, or IT team should seriously consider.

1. Start by Going Digital
If you're still relying heavily on paper records, you're walking on thin ice. Paper can get lost, stolen, or destroyed without warning—think fire, water damage, or even just being misplaced in a cluttered office.
Moving your records to digital format isn’t just about convenience. It’s about having better control, faster access, and—most importantly—an easier way to back things up. Whether you're scanning documents or switching to a document management solution, this is a necessary first step in any backup plan.
2. Don’t Rely on Just One Backup Method
One copy isn’t a backup. Two copies in the same place? Still risky. To really protect your data, you need redundancy.
Here’s a simple rule: use a mix of local and cloud backups. That means having a physical hard drive or server that stores your data and a secure, cloud DMS (Document Management System) that can safeguard your files remotely. It’s one of the easiest ways to ensure continuity in case of local system failure.
3. Make Backups a Habit, Not a Chore
Backups should happen regularly—daily if possible, or at least once a week. It shouldn’t be someone’s “when you have time” task. Automate it. Most DMS software features include scheduled backup tools that work in the background.
Set it and forget it—but make sure it’s actually working (more on that below).
4. Test Your Backups Before You Actually Need Them
Imagine this: you’ve been running backups for months, thinking everything’s safe… only to find out the files were corrupted or incomplete when you actually need them. Ouch.
Don’t wait for disaster to find out your backup failed. Schedule regular test runs. Restore a few files now and then. If you're using a web-based DMS for small business, these platforms often make testing and restoring much easier, even for non-technical users.
5. Train Your Team to Be Backup-Smart
Most data loss isn’t caused by hackers—it’s caused by simple human mistakes. A file gets deleted. A folder gets overwritten. Someone clicks a suspicious email link.
That’s why your people are a huge part of your data safety plan. Hold quick training sessions, create clear file-handling guidelines, and encourage the habit of saving work in the right folders or systems.
Educating your team also means they understand what is DMS software and how to use it correctly—because the right usage leads to fewer errors and better protection.
Bonus Tip: Choose the Right DMS
Not all document management tools are created equal. If your business is just starting out or operating on a budget, look for an affordable DMS solution that still gives you essential features like version control, user access management, and automated backups.
If customization is a priority, partnering with experts in DMS software development can help you build exactly what your team needs.

Oh, how obsessed i am with creating art with meaning. It is truly wonderful how many conclusions people come to from looking at it.
In this piece, i depicted Mina, my character standing in the middle of a retro style background. Now, you may see different things, but here is the intention:
Broken tv - protest for the waste of electricity, and the usage of ai. Auto-generative software is responsible for a huge part of the world's water pollution. From 2021 to 2022, Google and Microsoft alone were responsible for the use of 22.7 billion liters of potable water.
No signal flower pot - the desire of nature to take over the world once again
Metal bat, cans of paint - Protest of a human drawn character against the rise of corporate murder of many aspiring artists' careers. It is truly saddening how much less people care about art and only about making a quick buck off of ignorant people.
"Oh, but it doesn't matter as long as the drawings are pretty, oh, I'm not ready to pay hundreds for what i can do for free in seconds."
-well, congratulations, you have played yourself. I could take hours explaining why it's wrong, but i would be only yelling at a wall. Ai supporters will never listen, but that doesn't mean we should stop voicing our opinions.
In conclusion, the fast development and vast misuse of ai will definitely change our future for the worse, and i wonder how much more it would take to make the authorities realize that we are killing our only planet.
I take commissions, please dm if you are interested 🤗🫶

Me and the Sprout team are doing a lil game jam from the 10-12th of Nov, where we’re gonna make a tiny game in Godot! If you’re a game programmer familiar with Godot (or would like a low stakes project to learn it through) and you would be interested in joining, pls DM me
The unity changes made us realise that we would be far more comfortable developing Last Sprout in an open source software, so we’re moving to Godot! However, that means the project has come to a little bit of a standstill, so to get us back on our feet were doing this little jam to just make /something/. We have some vague (colourfully lgbt) ideas for next weekend, but we just wanna get something made by the end of the 3 days. If you’re interested please reach out! The sprout team is made entirely of volunteers and if you’d like to join us after the game jam working on Last Sprout, that would be awesome and more than welcomed!
Either way, I hope we can make some cool stuff together :}

Ghost Future Leonardo FAQ
(...I'll get a better header picture later. Maybe.)
(Get your own Desktop Old Turtle Man here)
Since I keep getting repeated questions, I've decided to make a FAQ where I can put all explanations to and link to it 👉👉
❓How do I keep Leo on top of my screen applications?
If you want him to stay on top of your windows, right click him, then go to Options - Preferences, then the Ghost(2) tab in the big menu that pops up. Check "Always Show Foreground" and that should do it.
❓Is there any screenshots on how I can install Leo?
Check out this post, it describes how to install Leo, screenshots included
❓Does Leo work on Chromebook, IOS, newer Android, etc? Will he ever?
No. I can't personally make him work on other platforms - unless the developers of the software (called SSP) will make SSP work on those platforms, Leo won't be able to work there.
❓How do I talk to Leo? How do I ask him a question? How do I pet him?
After installing Leo, if you want to interact with him just double click him - anywhere but his face. Right click on him calls more generic options menu.
To pet him, stroke the top of his head with your mouse, no clicking. If you want to know more general area, look at this gif here.
❓Download link for Leonardo doesn't seem to be working, what should I do?
Since the download link in my post leads to the website I made on neocities, sometimes website doesn't work, but you should be able to install Leo straight from the Google Drive here. You can see instructions linked in the second question of this post.
❓My data doesn't save - every time I open Leo, the introduction plays again, what should I do?
Most of the time it means that the files have been installed incorrectly, and folders are not where they should be.
Here's the files you should have in your 'ghost' folder (the location of which will most probably be your 'downloads' folder), and files you should have there
For the first 'ghost' folder, unless you installed desktop ghosts before you will only have 'Future Leonardo' and 'emily4' folders
Inside the 'shell' folder you should have 3 folders - 'Taileo', 'Neon Leon' and 'Chin Stripes', and they all contain lots of pngs and a couple of txt files
Don't worry about 'profile' folder, I believe it just saves the data of ghosts's coordinates on your screen in case you move them around
It might be a problem with a save file - just make sure you don't move 'aya5_variable.cfg' from the 'master' folder, because that's an actual file that contains all the save data.
❓Will you ever make more TMNT ghosts? Other brothers?
No. I have enough stuff I still wish to implement to Leo, and even if I made any other turtle, the overall experience wouldn't be much different. But don't let your dreams be dreams, you can always try and make your beloved turtle live on your desktop yourself! English Desktop Ghost devs community is so lovely, they're always happy to help both new and seasoned devs 💖✨
❓I still have a question!
You're always welcome to send me a question. I might take time responding (perhaps a lot of time...), but if you send it straight to DMs I usually reply within a day. So, DM this blog or @venelona for urgent questions 💌

Is this a rant? This feels like a rant. Please pardon any bad grammar.
Tumblr glitch and my archive isn't showing up —
My usually empty message box had two messages (lacking any introduction or greeting) from the same person demanding to know why I'd turned my archive off. This person proudly displays their 80,000+ instagram following next to their name.
They'd followed me in the last 24 hours, obviously just to dm.
I'd never heard of this person so I checked out their Insta. It's loaded with my gifs (turned into bad looking pixelated videos). There's no mention of my tumblr (Rhett Hammersmith's International Haus of Horrors — Hammersmith Horror for brevity).
This happens a lot on other platforms and sometimes tumblr. It's just the way it is.
So I explain to this individual that it takes time to select frames from a two minute sequence and condense them into a two second sequence. It's a skill—a useless skill—that I've developed over the years.
It's not as simple as just "recording the screen".
I like to make gifs with a beginning, middle, and end. Or, if possible, a nice seamless loop. I'll make several versions until the timing is just right. I sometimes combine elements from two unrelated scenes to create a new scene. I also color correct the frames, tweak the contrast, and sharpen the details, etc.
You get the picture.
But it's not just about the creation of gifs. I have to hunt the films down, buy dvds, watch the films, do the research, etc.
Some of these movies are truly terrible. You have no idea the amount of agony that's endured while trying to extract a bit of art from them.
Just kidding — I honestly love "terrible" movies.
So anyway, this person was none too happy when asked if they just wanted access to my archive for content. They angrily called me a stalker (the irony was lost on them) and stated they're a professional video maker who uses $300 software!
A whole $300?! Wow! They must really be a pro!
So yeah, I make these gifs out of a love for weird little movies. People like the content and they share it. That's what it's about. But, would it hurt them, would they lose followers, if they gave the original content creators a little credit?
I've made gifs for years and have never asked for anything but a little credit. Is that really too much to ask?
Oh well.
C’est la vie, I guess.
Thanks for reading all this.

Hello hello! It's me DFP
I'm wondering where you learned/are you learning to Code? I find the structure of your game quite entertaining and I like to take a little inspiration from it (If I'm allowed)
And I tried to make images that are options but apparently I'm still a long way from leaving the beta of my projects So I wanted to seek advice from you
(Also, if this is not the correct account to ask this I apologize, but if you have some very good advice that can help me please feel free to go to my DMs)
Hello DFP! :3 (I'm not exactly sure what you mean by structure sorry, but probably yes haha)
I didn't learn coding. In fact, the scariest part of my game is the code itself! I would like to take classes in art and coding someday! It's just not a great time in my country to be spending money atm ahahahaha- (cries in national housing and inflation crisis)
If you're using Renpy to make a VN, smart people would recommend giving the Renpy and Python's offcal guides a good look and watching Renpy tutorials on youtube.
For me, I'm the kinda person that only takes in information by dissecting and breaking things, then learning from the mistakes. I looked at the front page of the Python pdf, and it made my ADHD repossess my body despite being on the max dose of ritalin. I immediately closed it then skimmed through the Renpy quickstart, not really taking in any of the information, jumped right into designing the main menu, minced up the code, caught a bunch of errors, and had to check out fourms for fixes.
Have some random tips that may or may not be helpful since I don't know your skill level and I, am infact, not skilled in Renpy, I have no idea what I'm doing half the time! :3
Make new files for everything, don't just put it all in the script or it's going to get ridiculous.
Scripts get LONG use # and add notes, so you can CTRL + F and find stuff easily.
If you're like me, check out renpy's reddit/lemma soft fourms, if you're not getting good goog search results, it might be the words you're using, I had this issue a lot, try changing up words in your question (options/preferences/choices/decisions)
When you're learning copy and paste the code/answer, once you know the the code and can type it out fast, then starting manually typing it out.
Always check the dates on posts, there's a bunch of old renpy guides/fourms that don't work anymore.
There is more than one way to skin a dingo (sorry kevin), if you've found a fix that seems ridiculous but it's working, keep it!
If you have anger problems prepare to get fuckin' pissed off! Before you start coding have a coffee/bottle of water/energy drink beside you, so you have to walk away to take angry piss breaks and can clear your head.
If you absolutely cannot figure something out, make a copy, put it aside and work on something else until you're a little more skilled.
I have three copies of olie, the one that works, the one that I'm experimenting on, and the one on a USB I copy when I get drunk and forget which is my "fuck around" code and which is my "don't touch it, it works" code and I annihilate my game. Make regular backups to your USB for any emergencies, houses burn down. Limit your drinking while coding.
Compare code to the game base if you're coming up with errors. Goog the exact error that pops up when the game crashes. (renpy expected statement)
Click the blue text and it'll take you to it. Sometimes it's not very accurate and you need to look a little above or below the line the error happened. 70% of the time your error is a missing space or "," or an extra space!
I also recommend checking out all the shortcuts on your code editing software (I'm using visual studio code!) I was manually adding indents to each line, which was wasting an insane amount of time LMAO ;w;
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by images that are options, but I'm guessing an imagebutton? If you search "renpy imagebutton" there's a few forums and tutorials that will guide you but it's like this.
You need a screen for your buttons, an image, if you're feeling funky add transforms to the button, else just use a different image for idle/hover!
Add the anchor before you do xpos/ypos because it messes around with the positions and you'll have to re-adjust the xpos/ypos again. You need anchor for the transitions to work properly.
If you want the button to make a sound on click add activate_sound or remove it if you don't want one, it's optional.
This is how you make the transform, you can do a TON of different transforms. This is a simple idle/hover transform. ease is the animation type/speed, alpha is transparency, 1.0 is fully visible, 0.0 is transparent, at 0.5 on idle, it has a dimmed effect. the zoom makes it bigger. Make a new file for this one!
Buttons have a TON of actions to choose from, this is a time I actually would checkout renpy's offical guides. This one does the same as a jump at the end of a label or choice.
If you want your game to not pause when your buttons are visible, just use "show screen nameofthescreenhere zorder 20" (zorder is the layers, 20 is like usually the top, you can go higher though)
If you want your game to pause while the screen is up, use call screen instead of show!
I probably won't do too many of these coding/renpy support things on my tumblr but, OLIE'S discord server has a few game dev channels for coding support if you'd want to join there! :3
I wish you well and goodluck on your game!!! 💖🫡🍀

I think it’s important to stay realistic in regards to DM and what they show might be doing with them atm. I never actually thought we’d get some type of resolution or even a confirmation re: them having been romantically involved in the past, or them starting some kind of affair in the present for that matter. BUT I do hate to see some people calling DM fans deluded and all sorts of names simply because they either 1. Love the books and the chapter and have waited for years to see it adapted or 2. Simply don’t like Loumand (valid) and prefer to see Armand with someone who actually understands and cherishes ALL of him. These aggressive haters are usually the ones with the weirdly aggressive Loumand agenda that perpetuates the narrative of Louis being an eternal, perfect, helpless victim. DM shippers have existed on the internet long before most of these people were even born lmao it’s so ridiculous.
Yeah well, I do think this season has made it very clear that Louis is not just a helpless victim (and Jacob made that clear as well). (Though he is of course a victim to Armand‘s influence.)
But apart from that… yes it‘s important to stay realistic. There’s only so much they can squeeze into the remaining 3 hours.
And, personally - and that goes for all ships/scenes/whatever - I‘d rather see it done well than fast. Or cheap.
Remember the software development rules :)
If it’s fast and good it’s not cheap.
If it’s fast and cheap it’s not good.
If it‘s good and cheap… it’s not fast.
I want this show to be outstanding, to keep this level of quality.
Which means no hurrying through relationships or events - and no cheap shortcuts.
I. personally, don’t want it any other way.

Hey, hey! wanna help me with the mechanisms game im making, called "Downtime"?
This might be an odd post for sure, but it's a shot i gotta at least attempt!
Okay so! Heya! Im looking for people within the mechs community that know how to do music, becaaaaaauuuuse i need music for my game, Downtime! (and maybe future games)
I don't need any fancy instruments, i think, just another silly person who wants to help with this project! N can work with whatever music making software they have on hand and can do music they feel content with being in downtime. I can't pay sadly, so this would be on a volunteer basis? Though i have at least 5€ on my paypal right now/silly
I do need you to be able to communicate, though? Communication and frequent ish samples? Hell, i don't care if they're done, i just wanna know what the progress is, n have a back n forth on questions and ideas! Spam me with "hey i changed this while being bored, sound good?"/silly
I had people in the past projects, including this one with which communication lacked. I would like to not share who it was, but i do want to say that the "collap" was not consented to on my end, and when i tried to break it off once i realizedi cant work with this person, the persons behavior seemed manipulative and hypocritical and i would like to move past it and focus back on this game without this stress they originally wanted to take off my shoulders. I hope this clears the air and does not result in rumors and lies spreading.
Some people tell me i should stop overworking myself, so here i am, asking for help with a thing im less than good in. If i find no one, I'll just try n do music myself, but it will not be good and will drag out development time significantly.
I also wanna say that no work will go uncredited! You will be credited on the gamejolt page and within the game itself!
If you wanna poke me about this cause yer interested or have questions, just dm me!

just saw your response about writing a book and dreams and i wanted to ask like-- do you think you'd ever change careers to do that? im in the middle of trying to change careers right now and the market is straight doggy doodoo in the us, but also maybe egg on my face for applying right before the holidays. id like to think to those of us with wants and dreams there is a place. i think you're a bit older than i am, and i guess i want your opinion as someone a little more sage. idk sorry if this is too personal - i have noticed you like to keep your personal and kpoppie fandom life separate, so i wont press :3! happiness to all
such a great question!! so let me answer your question in a few parts bc honestly, the way careers and life work out in your twenties is so goddamn weird lol
so i went to school for literature and intended to go for the professor path, but realized pretty quick id be poor forever. so i bopped around job to job for a while feeling pretty unfulfilled, probably through my mid twenties. then i accidentally fell into a job at a small company where they let me switch over to the software dev team bc i surprisingly liked it / was good at it, and thats what ive been doing since. im 30 now, and to be honest, i make pretty good money doing that plus im able to fully work remotely and kind of have a flexible schedule.
so to answer your question….. no, i don’t think i would be willing to take the risk right now to try switching for writing but that’s largely because i finally like my job and im a little risk adverse as a person when it comes to my own finances.
i think realistically if i ever tried writing professionally it would be something i did in my off time like fic and then if i was able to make money doing that then maybe id switch paths. i have the flexibility for that given what i do, but thats just me.
for you, being a little younger in age and maybe your career though id give you this advice (as someone who changed careers) - you might need to start low on the totem poll to get into the career path you want, especially when switching, but do not let yourself work at lower pay for too long. no matter how great the company is etc., jobs that hire low experience and let you sink or swim are great for experience but they will never, ever pay you what you’re worth no matter how nice your bosses are. so if you get your foot in the door, crush it and get that resume built, and then get out in 1-2 years.
the other thing i’ll say is know your worth now. every job and degree gives you resume builders and skills you don’t even realize are marketable. focus on getting good at interviews so once you land one, you’ll get farther. people hire people they like, i guarantee im not the best developer but i am really personable and honest in an interview and it’s always got me a call back.
i would also say, career changing takes time. don’t be afraid to make money doing something you don’t love while you try for something else. it took me 2 years to transition from a job i didn’t love to doing something i enjoy for good money now, and it’s not my total dream job, but it affords me the time and money to enjoy my passions and that’s a good fit for me.
anyways i don’t know if this was helpful, but please don’t be shy to dm me here or on twt, i’d be happy to talk about my experiences or give you more advice on your situation.
i know it’s tough out there, but you got this! for the majority of my twenties i was really lost and struggling, but i promise if you stay the course and be honest with yourself the path in front of you gets clearer and easier to walk. 💗

Why I Love Studying at Sabaragamuwa University
🌿 Hey Tumblr fam! I just wanted to take a moment to share something close to my heart — my experience at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, a place that’s more than just classrooms and assignments. It's where I found peace, passion, and purpose. 💚
🌄 A Hidden Gem in the Hills
Imagine studying on a campus surrounded by misty hills, green forests, and natural waterfalls. Sounds dreamy, right? Well, that’s exactly what SUSL in Belihuloya feels like. The air is fresh, the environment is peaceful, and nature literally whispers encouragement while you study. 😌🍃

📌 Location: Belihuloya, Sri Lanka 🔗 Official Website of SUSL
💻 My Faculty: Computing
As a proud student of the Faculty of Computing, I can honestly say that SUSL is more than qualified when it comes to academic excellence. 💯
Our professors are not just knowledgeable—they actually care. We work on cool projects, explore real-world tech, and even get support for internships and future careers.
?
👩💻 Tech, Talent & Tenacity
You might be surprised, but SUSL is seriously catching up with the tech world.
Let me break it down for you—our Faculty of Computing is organized into three departments, and each one opens up different futures:
🖥️ Department of Computing and Information Systems (CIS)
A great fit if you're interested in IT infrastructure, system design, software, and business applications
You learn how tech supports and transforms businesses, governments, and society
🛠️ Department of Software Engineering (SE)
Perfect if you love to build software from the ground up
Focuses on software architecture, testing, DevOps, and full development lifecycles
📊 Department of Data Science (DS)
The department of the future! 🌐
Teaches you how to work with big data, machine learning, AI, statistics, and more
If you like solving puzzles with data, this is your world
No matter which path you choose, you’ll get:
Modern course content aligned with global tech trends
Hands-on labs and access to real tools (GitHub, Python, VS Code, cloud platforms, etc.)
Internships with leading IT companies
Final-year projects that are often built with startups or community needs in mind
Some of my seniors are now working at top companies, others are doing research abroad—that’s the kind of transformation this faculty creates. 🙌
