Id like to thank @debian-official, if it wasnt for them this idea wouldnt have come to me.
What projects is everyone working on? Im curious and want to see what the IT community is bashing their heads against.
Ill start, I am setting up a personal website for my homelab! The site is through nginx. I dont have any experience with html or css or anything like that and for me its a fun little challenge. It has also allowed my to get my "cdn" going again which I am quite pleased about ^~^

I present to you: the 200 times translated AFL Clubs! (Inspired by this post)
See under the cut for details and some cut names!
For some clubs like Carlton, Collingwood, Melbourne, and Port Adelaide, I used their nicknames to produce interesting results (e.g., Carlton Blues, Melbourne Demons, Collingwood Magpies, Port Adelaide Power). Yes, the translation added the punctuation.
Runners up include:
CHILDREN (Fremantle)
Blood (Gold Coast Suns)
Blue Cardboard (Carlton)
I doubt it (Collingwood)
What are you Preparing For? (Hawthorn)
Beat Your Friends (St Kilda)
Ten (West Coast Eagles)
Romanovsky (Richmond Tigers)
And an honorable mention to He Is The Composer Of This Song (Footscray)
#afl#collingwood#carlton#brisbane lions#freo dockers#geelong cats#richmond#GWS#hawthorn#North Melbourne#Western Bulldogs#ill be posting this to reddit too so if you see it there just ignore the user lmao

enshittification isn't just worse UI changes. it's the fact that when i google a random word, the first result is usually some company. possibly multiple results about different companies. before anything useful.
#my posts#ok to rb#seriously pick a noun and google it. 'hyperfix' has hits on amazon before psychology websites#it's really frustrating because google is a better metasearch engine than many others that i've tried#thinking abt trying searx but also kinda lazy about trying to deal with figuring out how to configure docker and such#and i likey my firefox

ok so the problem with xapblr on linux is python-future right? i already had to go through a whole thing with that particular rude package for some other thing. but it seems to me like you could pretty easily set up a minimal arch container with python-future but not python 3.13 and then set up and run xapblr from there right? if i get a working compose file for that does anyone want it
#havent figured out yet whether distrobox uses the same compose format as docker and podman but i know it automatically uses the same home#and idk if thats annoying to do on docker/podman. im gonna look i just dont want to before posting because idk yet if its a hard question

You ever find a cool computer program and you're like "damn, this is a cool computer program"
This week's find is bandcampsync, which automatically keeps a local folder up-to-date with FLAC downloads of everything in my comically-large-and-constantly-growing Bandcamp collection. I then point a local Navidrome instance at this so I can stream to all my devices from it, along with the rest of my collection. (I'm running all these in Docker on my home server.) Very neat little solution
#non-joke#docker appreciation post#you do have to give bandcampsync your cookies which always feels slightly sketchy#both from a “do i trust this program” angle and a “is bandcamp gonna ban me for this” angle#though there's obviously a good technical reason it needs those cookies#and i skimmed the code and nothing looks obviously malicious#and bandcamp hasn't rate limited me or anything yet#so *shrug*

being someone who uses Debian both professionally and at home is great because i spend 8 hours a day thinking about it in the most normal way possible whilst dealing with MySQL or whatever
and then i come home, boot up my Thinkpad, and am presented with posts like this on tumblr dot com
switching your computer to running on linux is a kind of forcefem
#one day i will fuck up and get those two contexts confused#like i'll write a technical document that claims the g in gcc stands for gender or something#or maybe it'll be the other way around and i'll write a tumblr post about docker-compose files#linux

I made it easier to back up your blog with tumblr-utils
Hey friends! I've seen a few posts going around about how to back up your blog in case tumblr disappears. Unfortunately the best backup approach I've seen is not the built-in backup option from tumblr itself, but a python app called tumblr-utils. tumblr-utils is a very, very cool project that deserves a lot of credit, but it can be tough to get working. So I've put together something to make it a bit easier for myself that hopefully might help others as well.
If you've ever used Docker, you know how much of a game-changer it is to have a pre-packaged setup for running code that someone else got working for you, rather than having to cobble together a working environment yourself. Well, I just published a tumblr-utils Docker container! If you can get Docker running on your system - whether Windows, Linux, or Mac - you can tell it to pull this container from dockerhub and run it to get a full backup of your tumblr blog that you can actually open in a web browser and navigate just like the real thing!
This is still going to be more complicated than grabbing a zip file from the tumblr menu, but hopefully it lowers the barrier a little bit by avoiding things like python dependency errors and troubleshooting for your specific operating system.
If you happen to have an Unraid server, I'm planning to submit it to the community apps repository there to make it even easier.
Drop me a message or open an issue on github if you run into problems!

So assuming a group of disillusioned programmers wanted to put together a WordPress replacement, what would be necessary features for you to try it?
gotta be easy for a moron to install, either through docker or whatever other one-click installer options are out there
the ability to assign posts to categories and have the next/previous button on single post view only apply within that category
likes/kudos on posts (why did i need to install a plugin for this)
the ability to paywall posts or categories according to subscriber tier
multiple payment processor options instead of just stripe (paypal, ccbill, authorize.net, literally anything that won't ban you for smut lmfao)
the ability to send posts as emails substack-style with category-specific email lists (i don't mind it needing to plug into a third party service for this but right now with wordpress i've got two different third party services duct-taped together for something it seems like it should be able to do out of the box, what the fuck)
comments section that can also be limited by subscriber tier
#original#honestly the major hurdles for ghost were:#the payment processor issue for one#and for another the apparent expectation that every serial you produce will get its own website and ghost install i guess??#maybe i want to have five different serials running at the same time on one website and that's fine

Donn the Docker
For ppl that remarked that he seems to have some genuine care/guilt/regret about participating in the orphans abuse: Y’all are 100% correct, Donn does actually struggle (but denies that) to see himself as one of the people that used to torment him. He doesn’t have an issue doing that to other people btw, it’s just specifically Bailey’s orphans he has a (sort of) soft spot for.
Donn knows what it’s like to be that powerless, and he holds some intense self hatred for the fact he still participates in their abuse. Is that going to make him stop? No, because at the end, it’s a way for him to feel in control in this batshit insane town. Is he gonna treat the orphans with a whiplash of cruelty and care? Absolutely, he’ll do whatever he feels like doing with them, have his post-nut clarity and regret, patch them up in silence and send them back, hate himself for a few days and then do it again. It’s like drugs to him. He hates that he can see why people make deals with Bailey. He hates himself for making deals with Bailey. He also hates the orphans a little bit for letting him do that to them, even if he knows it’s really not their fault.
Donn also avoids getting the same orphans too often - he doesn’t want to built relationships with any of them, he doesn’t want names, stories, faces, he just wants to see them as fleshlights he buys for fun and doesn’t have to feel guilty about using. Yeah he’ll clean them and bring them back just like you do with objects you rented. No he isn’t doing it because he feels bad. He just doesn’t need Bailey on his ass because he damaged the goods too much now stfu before he’ll change his mind.
#donn the docker#are you guys already getting tired of me talking about him#I like to think befriending Donn is realizing he isn’t a absolutely horrible person while also def being a horrible person#Sometimes you just get hit by the realization he is part of the problem

Pinned Post*
Layover Linux is my hobby project, where I'm building a packaging ecosystem from first principles and making a distro out of it. It's going slow thanks to a full time job (and... other reasons), but the design is solid, so I suppose if I plug away at this long enough, I'll eventually have something I can dogfood in my own life, for everything from gaming to web services to low-power "Linux but no package manager" devices.
Layover is the package manager at the heart of Layover Linux. It's designed around hermetic builds, atomically replacing the running system, cross compilation, and swearing at the Rust compiler. It's happy to run entirely in single-user mode on other distros, and is based around configuration, not mutation.
We all deserve reproducible builds. We all deserve configuration-based operating systems. We all deserve the simple safety of atomic updates. And gosh darn it, we deserve those things to be easy. I'm making the OS that I want to use, and I hope you'll want to use it too.
*if you want to get pinned and live in the PNW, I'm accepting DMs but have limited availability. Thanks 😊💜
Thanks to @docker-official for persuading me to pull the trigger on making an official blog. Much love to @jennihurtz, the supreme and shining jewel in my life and the heart beating in twin with mine. I also owe @k-simplex thanks for her support, which has carried me a few times in the last couple years.

So I'm realizing that I basically have one outfit that I just make minor alterations/swaps with. I wanna keep tabs on where I got this stuff, and since I'm an attention whore, I might as well make a post out of it. With a few exceptions, everything has been stuff I've nabbed when it's on sale online or I see in a thrift store within the past couple of months.
Here's a dump of pics, some new, some old, to give you an idea of what I wear basically every day:

I really like this fit. It's professional without being stodgy, showy on the figure without being inappropriate, casual without being sloppy. I'm def "dressing up" by grad student standards, esp compared to what I used to be like as a guy, but I'm okay with that.
Now, let's steal her look!!!
Bra:

Flannel:

Glasses:
Shoes:
Note that the shoes are absolutely the most expensive part of my outfit, but I have 0 regrets. I do NOT fuck around with shoes. I'm a hiker with messed up feet, I need to keep those babies working. And so far, these have been amazingly supportive on my messed up arches and ankles, I've used them in hikes even, and they support my ankle well. They also look really nice, far cuntier than hiking boots, so y'know. That's nice too.
There are two additional things I'll mention here that I know aren't easily accessible. I have pride colored hiking socks that I wear a lot which were given to me by the trailQTs. My belt was also something I got years ago from a leather worker at an art show.
Anyways. Idk if my assessment of this actually holds up, but I figured I'd record this all somewhere.
