#dolphins are evil

Hot take, I really don’t think we should assign human morals onto animals and call them bad or evil. Fishblr has internalised this idea really well with sharks, and I think that’s good! Sharks don’t deserve all the fearmongering they suffer from in media. But… can we please remember to extend this to other animals too? Even to intelligent animals like dolphins (most commonly bottlenose dolphins) and orcas. It seems to be a counter to pop culture’s tendency to show dolphins as complete angels when they partake in some messed up things, but like…. Dolphins are still animals? They may be able to recognize themselves in mirrors and they may have language and culture and know how to use tools but their intelligence is still on the level of a human child (and how empathetic are those!!??). I see people talk about how evil dolphins are but I never see people talking about other animals the same way, like, why aren’t sea otters and their “evilness” the topic of discussion? :/

Are caushious or afraid of humans

MOST SHARKS ARE NOT DANGEROUS TO HUMANS

Now dolphins:

Are aggressive to people or other dolphins

Have been seen r@ping other animals

Will beat up other dolphins

Can be racist

Have been recorded killing things just for fun

Sharks are often afraid of dolphins

Killer whales /Orcas are part of the dolphin family

They will kill echothers young

Dolphin attacks can be fatal

They are developing new and better ways to hunt

They torture there food before eating it

There smart enough to be used by the us navy

They taunt humans

They can have toxic personality similar to hunans

Have no fear of humans

More people die from dolphins drowning them while trying to rape them than from shark attacks but there's no movie about dolphins being killers because they have pretty privilege. and to add insult to injury sharks don't even mean to attack humans in fact they get surprised at the way we taste and often let go because there bad eyesight made them mistake surfers for seals while dolphins KNOW full well exactly what they are doing

Thank you so much for that post regarding anthropomorphization of animals op! I've been waiting for someone else to say that for ages and I think it would be best if people could just avoid doing such as all together with any type of animal; I have unfortunately seen the increase of sentiment that dolphins are "evil" and while I understand it's likely a result of a counter reaction to the demonization of sharks in media or film, this thinking in general doesn't help any animal nor is it based on any reality. This type of behavior is directed at a plethora of animals, it's just disappointing to see some people do this with dolphins in particular because they're supposedly "smart enough" to know the difference between good and evil.

The pleasure’s all mine! The “dolphins are evil bastards” sentiment has annoyed me for a long time but two days ago the feeling became strong enough and it bubbled over in a way. So I went, “what the heck, I have a fish account, let’s write a thing” and several additions later here we are!

I feel like the dolphin slander (/lh) does have its roots in shark demonisation in media and folks having a counter reaction to try and nullify it, as dolphins being evil is often featured in tandem with the sentiment that sharks are adorable sea puppies*. And, well, I suppose I understand why, as these two animals are rather similar in various ways, therefore their different treatment is quite strange, but I really don’t think it’s very good in the long run to just make another animal the evil ocean punching bag of society. Would sharks really want that!?

I especially hate how people will just say “they’re intelligent enough to know what they’re doing is wrong”. They… are not bound by human morality? They have the intelligence of a human child? They have their own dolphin instincts!?? Just like how humans can be so wholly kind but also commit horrible gruesome acts, dolphins can too, and you can’t generalise an entire species to be one thing. What I’d like for people to do in the future instead is to call dolphins unpredictable or potentially dangerous instead of straight up evil. I think this would not only describe the real deal a lot better but also not demonise this whole entire species.

*because my tone is serious here, I want to clarify… sharks are! But this isn’t about them.
