The healthcare needs for the people of Tigray are wide-ranging and overwhelming. Beyond life-saving medication and medical equipment, the people of Tigray need access to nutrition, clean water, vaccines, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to fight against infectious diseases such as TB and the COVID-19 pandemic. A plea for Humanity to help my family escape gaza

Summary: Thaer Aburaida is a student completing residency in Germany. However, her family of 15 are stuck in Gaza. The youngest being triplet babies with little access to formula. There are also a 2, 3, and 4 year old. Funds will be used to help them escape as well as healthcare as they are currently sick.

Emergency: help me evacuate my family from Gaza

Summary: Rawan AbuMahady, a 30-year-old Palestinian-currently residing in Canada, is a social worker and researcher who grew up on Gaza. She is recovering from PTSD due to what she has witnessed. Her younger sisters and parents still remain in Palestine, however. Her younger sisters, Hadeel (24)and Ayah(22 years old), has been expereincing severe panic attacks and have no access to food or clean water. Her mom has Type 2 Diabetes and was scheduled for eye surgery. However, she has had no access to insulin or any medical care for the past 3 months. Despite Rawan’s relentless efforts to reach the Canadian embassy and multiple international NGO’s through various channels, she has not received any help. However, her family has found a way to escape to Egypt for $7,000 each. While Rawan is financially independent and proud of the life she has made, she cannot afford a fee this high. As her family needs more than just fleeing to Egypt. Funds will first go to passes to get to Egypt, and any extra funds will go to transportation costs between Al-Nusierat camp to Rafah City, costs for any more travel, and possibly helping with food and shelter.

Gaza: Help my family afford emergency surgeries

Summary: Nouran is an artist whose family has suffered injuries during the bombings. The injuries are brutal. Her brother lost his right eye and ear, and suffered a skull fracture. Shrapnel has destroyed his right ear canal, and he’s completely deaf on that side. Nouran also lost her right eye. She also suffered major soft tissue trauma to my forehead and scalp. Her dad has completely lost his right calf muscle and can no longer walk without support. He can’t get surgery right now because there are no doctors here that know how to give epidural anaesthesia. Her mom has an untreated broken jaw and can no longer eat solid food. In the time since she was injured, she has lost over 14kg. All donations will go to treating their wounds. Medicines like antibiotics, anaesthesia, and pain relief are extremely expensive and difficult to get because of supply issues. They are also low on food with savings going fast. She has family in Ireland who can help with travel after they can escape, but they need help immediately with their health.

This is the most palatable form of activism you could come up with yet it's the only one liberals can fathom. It's always the same: amplify voices, educate yourself, donate to liberal associations and/or NGOs.

Two problems:

- amplifying voices and educating yourselves both put the emphasis on the individual yet what Romnia need is an actual movement that highlights the struggles we face *collectively, as a group*, and not as mere, isolated individuals you can dissasociate from their mothers, sisters and friends.

- European NGOs have been undermining, isolating and crushing Romani grassroots movements precisely because the big Romani rights associations and NGOs want to push a neoliberal agenda that goes against the well being of the Romani working class, ie >80% of the global Romani population. In this context giving to NGOs harms Roma in the long run, although it can provide some relief in the short run.

When they say "give to (this or that) Romani creator", same problem: emphasis on the individual, not on Roma as a people facing a common struggle, with the added injury that those english-speaking self-employed Romani creators on the internet are more likely to be mixed with white and middle-class, and therefore privileged over the dark skin working class majority.

Of course they would rather say "donate to NGOs and educate yourself" (and don't watch Wandavision and don't say the g slur and what have you) because it would make them too uncomfortable and make them feel too threatened in their privileged, middle-class lifestyle to say that supporting Romani women actually means:

- dismantling the sex trade and abolishing prostitution (in a very white, very gentrified manner, several of the associations listed actually want to decriminalize raping Romani women for money)

- abolish sexist Romani cultural practices like the pañuelo, dowry and child marriages

- abolish religions, Christianity and Islam at the top of the list

- fund more shelters and clinics to actually help homeless women, alcoholic and drug addicted women

- stop pushing Romani neighbourhoods and building Romani designated areas in highly polluted sites

- condemn segregation and give proper formations to healthcare professionals, teachers and administrators when it comes to accompanying Romani women and children in hospitals, at school and with administrative papers

Ashley meanwhile managed to find a job quickly after moving to Riihimäki from Helsinki, but not in her chosen field. She started her working life in Finland as a cleaner, but she eventually found work in healthcare.

Ashley's husband is Finnish-American and the couple thought moving to Finland would be a fun adventure. Ashley has since gained a Finnish nursing degree and had two kids in Finland.

"It's probably easier to find a job in healthcare compared to many other sectors. I've also been lucky in many ways," she said.

Ukraine getting less help from Finns

Donations to NGOs trying to help Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression have declined markedly after a peak in 2022, and some organisations are seeing just a fraction of the funds they collected soon after the full-scale invasion.

The Finnish Red Cross, for instance, collected some 39 million euros in 2022, but so far this year has just 1.5 million euros in donations from Finns.

Unicef, Finn Church Aid and Save the Children all suffered drops in the millions of euros.

One organisation that has bucked the trend is Your Finnish Friends, which was founded to "enable and ensure the continuation of support for Ukraine, to take care of the survival and operating conditions of the Finns helping on the ground, and to support people in returning from the war back to civilian life in Finland."

Finnish nightmares

Hufvudstadsbladet writes about a woman's difficulties with Aktia Bank since her father passed away. The bank won't release account funds because the daughter needs to prove that her father did not marry or have any children in Portugal, where he retired at age 68 and lived for six years.

The problem is that it's not possible to obtain a certificate from the Portuguese authorities confirming that the father has neither married nor had children there. Such a register simply doesn't exist.

"We have to find out who the beneficiaries of the estate are," Aktia told HBL, noting that other banks have the same practice.

Experts told the paper that inheritances get complicated if the deceased has lived abroad, particularly in the United States.

According to HBL, it's next to impossible to obtain documentation on "secret families" from the US. A lawyer told the paper of a case where the Finnish authorities eventually accepted the testimony of an American neighbour of the deceased, who swore under oath that he had neither seen nor heard of any other children during the time he knew the family.
