off of my last post: i feel like corporate horror has such a rich seam of possibilities that are just begging to be mined. the helpless, nightmarish feeling of watching your life get chewed up by the implacable machinery of faceless corporations in which you are nothing but an easily-replaceable cog and knowing the whole time that you chose to be here. that you can, theoretically, leave any time you want. mindless, pointless busywork that you're expected to take pride in even when it has no measurable impact. feeling like you're running on a treadmill - always busy, never achieving anything. upper managers who only communicate with you by email. CEOs who never communicate with you at all, and may not actually exist for all you know. you can leave any time you want. but you can't, can you? not really. you still have to pay the bills.

thinking back on the time that I trapped myself in my room for two years and avoided as much human interaction as possible due to overbearing anxiety—and understanding now that it was an extremely unhealthy coping mechanism of self-isolation and not "laziness" or being an "antisocial weirdo" and I'm proud that I pulled myself out of that and am so much happier for it

#my parents would constantly ask me when i was going to do things because i was smart and ambitious in high school #and i didn't know why i was doing this #and i felt so dumb and defeated for the longest time #it's no one's fault that it happened because none of us understood what I was actually struggling with #but i'm right where i thought I would never be: submitting my book and going for my bachelor's degree and i'm part of a great community #like i wish i could tell myself then when i was locking my door that it's going to be okay and you're going to get out of there #naff nuh huh #vent #kind of?#anxiety

It must be so frustrating for CZ to be such an evil mastermind with so much intelligence, but not being able to open doors and having to rely on some dyke to get his needs met

#CZ is trying to learn how to open my bedroom door SO hard #but it’s a round metal knob door and his little paws keep sliding off #I think he understands how it works but he’s unable to grip it properly to turn the knob #this is actually my second doorknob #the first one was one of those ones that you push down and pull the door to open it #and he figured it out IMMEDIATELY and was always letting himself out #we tried a child lock for toddlers but he figured that out too and eventually broke it #so we had to change my doorknob altogether #I joke about him being an idiot but he’s actually so SMART #I guess he had to be super smart in order to survive living as a homeless kitty in the forest until he was a year old #the beast

Never ever EVER buy household appliances with ai in them. Most ridiculous things I’ve ever encountered

#to be clear i did not buy one but had to use one to do a load of laundry (who needs ai in a laundry machine??) and let me tell you it was #useless.#first the thing apparently ‘senses the dirty ness of your clothes to calculate the wash cycle’ which then would only ever decide to do a #cycle that took 4. freaking. hours. never have i encountered a washer that takes longer than an hour to wash your clothes.#and without the ability to manually say you want it to be a specific time? makes no sense. who has that kind of time in their day.#NEXT we go to dry the clothes and it also wants to run it for an insane amount of time. so we click it anyways (horrible decision)#and think oh we’ll just open it halfway through #well. upon stopping the cycle halfway through the damn thing says that the door is locked because it’s ‘too hot.’#never have i seen something that thinks i’m going to burn myself on my hot clothes. like cmon #also cause opening the door would be a surefire way to cool the clothes down you’d think??#so we try all sorts of troubleshooting things and even unplugging it and it STILL WOULDNT UNLOCK.#the damn thing is still locked btw. dunno if ill ever get those clothes back #so glad this at least isn’t actually a dryer we spent money on and just one that was here while we’re traveling and need to do laundry #but like. cmon #there’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to decide how long to wash our clothes for and instead let a ‘smart’ (hint: it’s not smart) machine #do it for us #(hint part 2: this isn’t just about the clothes)#soni rambles #more like soni RANTS #i was already angry about the idea of ai in appliances but experiencing first hand how bad they are makes me even more angry #and a little scared for the future #now it’s 2am and the laundry is still stuck and im too upset to go to sleep. gah #and i don’t get mad easily.#oh and did i mention that to dry your clothes it wouldn’t let you select a temperature?? that it only said it would sense it itself??#see i like to dry all my clothes on low heat cause ive had a history of them shrinking #so not only are they trapped in the machine but it’s ‘too hot’ because it wouldn’t let us select a lower temperature.#luckily i didn’t put anything in that’s a material that usually shrinks

My cat, bless her heart, is SO stupid (affectionate) 😭 My door was closed most of the way, just open a crack, so she could open it further and come in if she just pushed on it lightly. Instead she stuck her paw under the door and started clawing, trying to pull it open.

#when the same situation happens when she's IN my room. she frequently pushes on the door and locks herself in #i don't understand why she can't figure out how to operate a door #for comparison her sister has known how to open closet doors to get into places she's not allowed for years #we have to put something in front of the doors in the basement so she won't open them and go into the walls #and sometimes she still manages to get in! when she's determined enough #their brother belongs to my uncle and by all accounts he's a bold and smart cat who loves going hiking #my poor cat ended up with none of the brain cells in this litter and she's a big coward to top it off #i love her 💖💞#i let her into my room so now she's lying on my side and purring #I'm moving out soon and can't take her with me bc she's actually my mom's cat (I'm just her favorite person) and I'm gonna miss her so much #real cats

I got a policy on all new tech that I don't know -- I hate it from the get-go, & it needs to prove it's useful before I'm willing to accept it.

If a piece of tech isn't improving anything, you don't need that tech*. You need what that tech is trying to replace.

*I'll specify that this is a case-by-case basis for each individual. I.E. I wouldn't buy a smart soap dispenser -- I can buy an analog one, & I have no difficulty using it or need to slap a sensor onto it, meanwhile somebody with fine motor movement issues might find it easier than trying to press down a hand pump.

#gale chatter #to be frank i hate smart tech so much it is unreal #why is your fridge on the wifi. why your grill needing an update. what the fuck are you connecting that roomba to cloud for #these things aren't necessary or secure. they are risks & holes in your system.#your roomba maps out your floors for cleaning then connects to your wifi. now somebody else can slink in & steal your floor plans #you got a smart lock on your car or door now somebody can make a phony signal or jam that lock to open it #my family members have their locations on at all times. who they're with. who they aren't with. if they're alone.#are they not fucking worried about that?#there is good tech out there there are genuine improvements but papering your house over with smart tech #& pretending you're in the jetsons isn't how we make genuine meaningful strives forwards with technology #& i honestly despise the trendiness of making this tech. what's that like? you want to make people happy & improve the world #& instead you're dishwasher that needs wifi #or bike armor that uses a subscription service #wild. it would make me hate my own hands. i would forevermore forsake actuators & wires & circuits.#engineers build whatever they can get funded to build & bc smart tech is trendy smart tech gets funded so they buils more smart tech #i hate it.
