Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
December is often highly anticipated (or dreaded) for its associated long list of Christmas Carols- but there's another holiday sound that those in Australia dread even more: the double drummer. The largest species of cicada in the country, Thopha saccata is also reportedly the loudest insect in the world. Its name comes from the large pockets that the adult male has on each side of its abdomen which he uses to amplify his mating calls. Even small groups of adults can produce a sound in excess of 120 decibels!

“The kit included two 26-inch bass drums - similar to the ones Appice played- that Bonham was especially thrilled about but Page and Jones detested…
Former Zeppelin roadie Glen Colson recalled setting up the kit the first time, and how Bonham ‘did his nut on it’. As a result, he said ‘Jimmy Page couldn’t figure out what Bonzo was doing. There was so much drumming going on that he couldn’t concentrate - he couldn’t keep time. So Jimmy ordered me never to set up the double bass drums again. They freaked everyone out.’
In fact, Bonham would use the double-bass-drum set up on several dates on the band’s second US tour before an exasperated Page finally put a stop to it, though they would reappear sporadically. Appice insists Bonham later told him he’s used them on the recording of ‘Whole Lotta Love’, while Jones recalls Bonham sneaking them back in for sessions on the Physical Graffiti album until Page finally lost his rag and ordered the roadies to hide the second bass drum away - for good.”

to be honest i think we need a semi mainstream band (not pop. decidedly not pop. but mainstream) who actually does something a little bit innovative, or popularises something innovative, with the drums. bc im sensing a pattern in goth a history where they hear sex pistols and go "oh fuck drums can be good!"

re: you thinking jakita was just drummer post-transition.... i literally went into outsiders knowing it was jakita because i saw that jakita wagner (earth-0) was a character on league of comic geeks and got curious. and i was still like "maybe locg is just wrong and drummer started e or something". but no.
I TRULY THOUGHT DRUMMER JUST STARTED E AND I THOUGHT IT RULEDDDD i was like wow its fascinating that she seems to remember pre retcon too like how does thos effect how she sees her gender and transition. but it was white jakita

Happy OC Sunday!
Into the Techiverse has two chapters left in it. Then I'll start publishing the Moana/TBB crossover, maybe the longfic sequel, who knows!
In between Techiverse and the next longfic, I'd like to think that Tech has stayed friends with the Techs from different multiverses.
So, after a fun visit to Pabu to celebrate one's wedding, Tech gives out another invitation to one of the other Techs to pay him a visit. But this time, he's been intercepted.
Because Juno Caheere (from @wrenkenstein) and Tech are scheduled to come into Medina Station: Juno was promised new lungs via this one, and she's coming in for a consultation before the operation.
A tour of Sjael's labs and greenhouses are in order as a result!
As a senior chemical engineer who focuses on crafting sucrose and flavonoids for human consumption, it is crucial for Sjael to be able to produce sweeteners and other foods naturally before recreating them.
She's proud AF of her lab's botanical garden as a result, and thus, has some corrections when she hears Juno's Tech try to explain things. Meanwhile, Juno is happy to see her Tech so engaged, and Sjael's Tech? Loves seeing his fellow Tech doing his thing and beaming over both his new home and his wife.
PS - As I previously mentioned, Belters from The Expanse (like Sjael) have an almost inhuman body structure (very long and very lean) as compared to normal humans, thanks to growing up in low gravity. It's a good thing Sjael never fights hand to hand with anyone, she would be on the floor within seconds.

NO LESS THAN THE QUINTESSENTIAL PROTO-THRASH DRUMMUNG MANIAC.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on the late, great "Philthy Animal" Taylor playing his infamous double-bass drum set during MOTÖRHEAD's "Overkill" tour, c. 1979.
"Taylor introduced me to that double bass type of thing. When I first heard "Overkill" in early 1979, that was what blew my head off.”
-- LARS ULRICH, co-founder & drummer for METALLICA
"MOTÖRHEAD was the first time I heard double bass done at that pattern. I had heard of other double bass drummers, but I don’t think they did anything like that, at that tempo and that beat.”
-- DAVE LOMBARDO, American percussionist & former drummer for SLAYER
