When I was a teenager, my friends would tell me all about how awesome this cartoon was they were watching. I thought they were lying to me about the content, but their passion for the Dragon Ball and DBZ won me over and really prepared me for my own anime experience as I eased in, watching Studio Ghibli, Digimon, and then Toonami—including DBZ.
He was an important part of my anime journey, and it can't be understated how vital he was to anime's growth in the west (I even co-authored a piece about DBZ recently that touched on that) and particularly to boys and young men, 25 years ago and right through today, and of course not just with manga but in gaming, too.
Thank you, Toriyama-sensei. We're grateful for all you did and we'll miss you.
