Let me introduce you to one of my favorite insects, the humble drain fly.
Also known as the moth fly, we are specifically taking about Clogmia albipunctata. These adorable little cuties are true flies and their natural habitats are swampy wet areas.
"But Alex," you scream, frothing at the mouth, eyes bulging, "Why are they called drain flies?"
While the adults eat nectar or just water, the larvae are aquatic and eat decaying matter. Drain flies have discovered that our sewage system is a neverending supply of disgusting organic stuff just decaying away. Yummy! As such, they can often be found in drains. Maybe you've had drain flies? Rejoice, for you have been blessed.
The best thing about these guys?
They fly like drunk idiots.
They are special little guys, perfect in every way.

I think my favorite species of "pest" insect are drain flies. Like here are these dudes who are fuzzy and have funny mustaches. They eat the biofilm in pipes and don't spread pathogens. My partners parents house had some in the basement for a little bit a few years ago and they never tried to land on you or anything they just hung out near the drains because there was a leak. If you have seen their larva to they are just perfectly adapted to living in pipes it's so interesting how this bug just thrives in these man made structures like they were built for it.

this is the Psychodidae better known as the drain fly, it's mostly found in bathrooms and is almost entirely harmless. it barely moves, makes no noise, and is ridiculously easy to squish
it is therefore the perfect candidate for human-bug morality

@superbiaa submitted: Can I ask for an id on this little moth?(southern California/LA area) They appear sometimes in my bathroom but it wasn't until I took these pictures that I actually saw all the little details on this guy!
Yeah! It's not a moth! It's a drain fly, but they are also called moth flies since they do kinda look like little moths. They breed in standing water (like that found in drains!), so that's why they show up in bathrooms.
