I really don't think these early poll results are going to reflect Tumblr demographics at large, but what the hell.
Hey, you! Do you remember LiveJournal? Remember all the fun you had there? Remember all the cool fics and communities and stuff?
Dreamwidth is basically LiveJournal but better!
Yes, LJ was more work than Tumblr is! Yes, it was harder to share images! But damned if it wasn't still a helluva lot of fun, and I miss it dearly!
We can still have that kind of fun on Dreamwidth!
Join me, everyone, and together we can rebuild better than we ever had it at LJ!

"Help, I'm an adult and I'm realizing I can't read or write as well as I should/would like to!"
Good news! Literacy is a skill that can be worked on, even once you're out of K-12 schooling! Here are some ways to get started with increasing your knowledge of grammar, reading comprehension, classics knowledge, and writing! Feel free to reblog with more ideas/options!
Go to the library. The brick and mortar building where all the books are. Get a library card (free), and ask a librarian to help you find books on whatever skill you want to work on! I recommend the physical building because the quiet environment, going to a specific place to learn, and access to books that may not be available digitally are all helpful!
Use Libby/Overdrive! These are apps you can use with your library card to check out ebooks. If you're used to reading fanfic on your phone, reading an ebook might be an easy transition! Many apps also have font and accessibility options that can help!
Khan Academy is a free site that has lots of different lessons on grammar and reading! They're geared towards k-12 students, but can be a good place to start if you feel they can help! I've only seen the math lessons personally, but it comes highly recommended!
Find a book you read in high school and read it again! Follow along with SparkNotes or another study guide (STILL reading the book) and think about how you feel about the book without the pressure of a grade. Did you find it more engaging? Did you notice anything new?
Read a lot! Read long form blog posts, news articles past the headlines, books, magazines, newsletters. Read your voter info pamphlets. Read the transcript of a video instead of watching it. Reading engages a different part of your brain than listening!
Start with just one book, hopefully one you already own, and take your time reading it. Keep it in your bag/pack everywhere you go. change your phone wallpaper to the cover of the book to remind you to pick it up instead of scrolling. Take all year to read it! Take your time! Just always have reading be an accessible option for you.
Practice writing more! Journal, write longer Tumblr posts than a pithy one-liner. Start a proper blog, like on dreamwidth or neocities! Write reviews of everything you read and watch and experience! Write fiction, poetry, your memoir! Don't worry about it being publishable or having an audience. Practice just sitting and writing full sentences for the joy of it.
Lastly, since I'm running out of ideas now, look into taking classes again! You don't have to pursue a degree to take English 101. Some colleges even let you Audit classes (where you take the class without receiving a grade or credit), which can be less stressful. Join a book club, or start one! Even try picking out an English textbook at the library and giving it a read.
It's never too late to learn to love reading again. And to get better at it, and even write works of your own. It's not shameful to be a bad reader/writer, but it can be fixed. Happy reading!

Awesome! Dreamwidth is a great place for this sort of thing, IMO.
BTW, if anyone sees this and is interested in learning more about Dreamwidth, I invite you to check out my Dreamwidth 101 tag. The owners are big on personal privacy, which is one reason I think it's an appropriate host, and with this sort of thing especially.
Thank you for being here, and for continuing to fight the good fight. I needed to hear punk rage right now; it's made this day a lot more bearable.
I did also make this if it's something you want to share - a small blog to share city council notes and other very local political news, because local resistance requires organization.

Good job. <3

The Sunnydale Herald Newsletter, Tuesday, April 30
Riley: You're melting. Dawn: Oh, um ... guess I'm not hungry. Riley: Maybe I'm not making this any better. Dawn: No, I just ... this is better. I had my tenth birthday party here. Riley: Really? Dawn: Mm-hmm. We'd just moved to Sunnydale, and ... Mum rented the carousel for an entire hour for just me and my friends. Except I hadn't made any friends yet, so ... it was just me and Mum and Buffy riding it by ourselves, over and over and over again... for the whole hour, just so Mum felt like we'd gotten our money's worth. She's ... she's not gonna get better, is she? Riley: Absolutely she will. Summers women are tough.

Today's prompt list is: Greendale Green
Theme: Television 1. The few times you've been a little bad are when I liked you the most. 2. It's not a fresh baked pie thing. 3. I'm in Psych 101 and even I don't know what's happening. 4. We've all been there which is why we're all here. 5. Some flies are too awesome for the wall. 6. I always go the extra mile to avoid doing things. 7. Somebody's gotta be this group's moral compass. 8. Don't make jokes, you're bad at it. 9. When you become roommates with friends, the things you love about them become the things that make you want to smother them with a pillow. 10. With all due respect, I have zero respect for you. 11. What's that complex called when you're wrong about everything? 12. I'm sorry, you were about to get ridiculous? 13. Let's take the foot off of the crazy pedal for a minute. 14. If I talk long enough, I can make anything right or wrong. 15. Sorry, I have a conflict. It conflicts with the enjoyment of my life. 16. Some mysteries solve themselves, don’t they? 17. Aren't you supposed to have an Olympic gold medal in jibber jabber? 18. Profound, but technically meaningless. 19. I'm not having a conversation with someone who emerges from a bush. 20. Love is a gamble always, but waiting won't change the dice. Either you roll them or you lose your turn. 21. Maybe you're one of those rare people with nothing underneath the surface. 22. Real friends help me with things, not vice versa. 23. Are you sure you're not in a cult? 24. This is a warning: I can't be killed. 25. She has more fights about stuff that doesn't matter than a Youtube comment section. 26. I hate to say I told you so, so I'll shout it through cupped hands. 27. It's those doe eyes. Disappointing you is like choking the Little Mermaid with a bike chain. 28. Someone's mom gave them way too much praise. 29. More importantly, you've stopped giggling at the word 'seamen' and that's the mark of a real seaman. 30. I haven't said a single word in this entire conversation and I find that outrageous.

This article is pretty LJ-centric, since it was written at a time when LJ was making some particularly nasty changes and Dreamwidth was one of the more familiar options around; however, the advice is still solid and should work pretty well regardless of what platform you're moving from. Still worth a look.
A look into how to transition to Dreamwidth.

Let me tell you about Dreamwidth
Here's the thing. Dreamwidth is not Tumblr. It will never be Tumblr. Whether you consider that a good or a bad thing is up to you; I mostly consider it just a thing.
There are ways you can make your Dreamwidth experience visually more like Tumblr and/or Discord; @sunlit-skycat did a wonderful breakdown of that process for anyone who wants to learn how.
Dreamwidth does not have a native reblogging feature, though there's a workaround you can learn how to use (brought to you by some of the same people who brought you AO3, even).
There are guides out there for getting used to Dreamwidth as a Tumblr user (including the not-currently-updating @dreamwidth-help), whether you plan to keep using Tumblr or not, and for how to connect to people on Tumblr and find communities for shared interests (shameless self-plug).
But overall, Dreamwidth is simply more work than Tumblr. If you spent regular time on LiveJournal, whether running your own account(s) or just lurking, the setup will be familiar; but for people who got into the internet more in the past ten years or so, it's going to be a bit challenging!
If you're willing to put in the work, though—and there are lots of people who are happy to help with that, including on Dreamwidth itself—it can be very worth it.

Would you believe I already have a post on exactly the topic of finding people to follow? 😂
There is also technically a way to reblog stuff, it's just not native to the site, so it takes some setting up.
But yeah, Dreamwidth's been around for over a decade, and one of the co-founders is seriously not joking about having plans to keep the site running for another thirty years; it's a very stable place to land if Tumblr does end up falling out from under us.
Honestly, my most desired feature is the ability to schedule posts; there's a workaround for that as well (you set up posting by email, then scheduled your emailed posts), but it's not nearly as slick as Tumblr's. I'm given to understand it's high on the priority list after Team Dreamwith finally replace the thirty-year-old foundation code that's holding back a lot of developments.
Is it just me, or is Tumblr sidling up to the idea of being more like Dreamwidth?
First, they introduced a poll feature (though Dreamwidth's polls are a lot more versatile: you can ask more than one question per poll, and you can also have different ways to answer).
And now, they've got a "Communities" feature in active Beta testing.
I ordinarily wouldn't even consider a "Community" feature, 'cause I already have my Tumblr Mutuals Gang, so starting a community just seems a bit redundant ...
However --
I am thinking of creating a Dreamwidth community for my Alternative To NaNoWriMo Idea (Tentative details spelled out here; I'm thinking of calling it either "Writers' Resolution Revolution," or "Writer's Block Busting Party").
And if Tumblr Communities are at all similar to Dreamwidth communities, it may make sense to create one, in order to expand the reach to more people.
I don't know, though. I may just make a Dreamwidth community at first, and wait until next year for Tumblr (Especially if it's still in beta come January).

What to post about on Dreamwidth
There's a question that may be on a lot of minds right now, that some people may be afraid to ask. Or you might not even think to ask it until after you're in deep enough that you'll feel silly for doing so! So let's get it out of the way ASAP.
"But what do I even post on Dreamwidth? Don't all posts there need to be super long and thoughtful?"
Not even a little bit! As with any social media site, posting is the blood that keeps social interactions going. You can get into comments, yes, but those happen best with posts! But with the (I'm sorry to say) sub-par image hosting interface on Dreamwidth (that will hopefully be fixed someday, but probably is at least several years out, I'm even sorrier to say), people who are used to an image-heavy social media site might be a bit daunted by Dreamwidth's text-heavy interface. So here's some ideas of things you can post:
Shitposts. It is entirely fine, okay, and even wonderful to make shitposts on Dreamwidth! Since Dreamwidth isn't a content aggregation site and doesn't have built-in reblogging, you probably shouldn't expect them to go very far (unless a member of metaquotes sees them and wants to share), but they're still welcome 👍
GIPs, or, Gratuitous Icon Posts! Free users get a total of 15 icons to use like reaction images and gifs, and sometimes when you upload one, you just want to share it with everyone right away! That's when you make a Gratuitous Icon Post. You can literally just make a post using that icon, and then put GIP in the text field, and boom! You're done.
Steal some prompts from sunshine_challenge, snowflake_challenge, or thefridayfive. While you can also do any of these challenges in real time, there's nothing stopping you from doing them whenever you want, and The Friday Five has a huge number of back-posts to dig through. Just go back a few pages on the main community page, pick a day with questions you like the look of, and post those (with your answers) to your journal!
Do you have a pet? Or more than one? Post about what they're doing right this second. Someone's bound to be interested in that!
To-do lists. Not only can it be helpful to have these actually written out, some of your followers may chime in to root for you to do them!
Media reviews in three sentences or less. Of course you can make them longer if you want, but if you're just looking to get a quick post out, this one might be pretty fun.
Something you're looking forward to! It doesn't have to be a big thing, even something like, "I can't wait for my next afternoon nap!" or "I just bought a new book and I'm really looking forward to reading it!" or "I wanna go home so I can pet my dog so bad!" Any of those would be a fine post.
Three (or more) Things Make a List: If you've got at least three things you've been meaning to post about, but don't have a lot to say about any of them, jumble them all together in the same post! Pretty sure this tradition dates back farther than Dreamwidth, though damned if I could say where it started.
It may not seem like these ideas have a lot in common, but one thing they're all good for is starting a conversation with your followers. And that's at least half the fun of Dreamwidth, IMO.
There's more ideas out there, but these should at least get you started. And if you keep it up, you'll have the hang of Dreamwidth in no time 😉

Best of luck! I'm unfortunately headed to bed before too long, but if you run into any problems, I'll be happy to try and lend a hand sometime tomorrow!
And if you manage to get your own journal set up at minimum but need further help right away, the community Newcomers should be able to help you out. My Beta Create Entries Page guide will hopefully be able to walk you through how to post there.
I’m doing it. Tonight is the night I figure out Dreamwidth.
I’m about a decade too young to remember the version of the internet it hearkens back to, which has tripped me up in the past. But I keep wanting to do exchanges hosted there, and that means I need to buckle down and learn at least enough features to keep up with a few communities there.
It’s me, my laptop, an armload of tutorials (shoutout @bisexualbaker and the kind folks in the Battleship Exchange discord) and whatever god will take up my cause against the universe.
Wahoo!

Animal Quills is (or rather, was-- it's now defunct) a Dreamwidth blog that ran from 2010-2015 and allowed for its nonhuman-identifying members to regularly post literature about themselves or based on regularly output prompts. To take the description from the blog's exact profile:
"Animal Quills is a community for animal-people to post their written works and thoughts - essays, poetry, experimental writings, musings, stories, calligraphy, ... (this is a place of interest for people who are animal, not a place to roleplay as animals). Those writings must be related in a way or another to animal-folk, experiencing one's animal, and such as. Although it was admittedly created for the "mundane" therianthropes (living or extinct theriotypes), we welcome otherkin at large who feel animality is a strong part of their being, such as theriomythics (ie. gryphons, phoenikoi, dragons, kitsunes, etc).
This community is more like a creative group - not suited for asking questions or the usual 101 forum topics (terminology, requests for guidance, theories on the origins of therianthropy and other "what if... what if..." ponderings). Instead, we'd like to foster musings about the here-and-now practical experience of being animal; discussions on the posted writings are of course encouraged! Introductions are much appreciated as well so don't be shy if you're new around, tell us about your animal-self and what brings you here! :)
Just so you know, some of us regularly or solely post locked entries here, and so if you're following the community without joining as a member you won't notice any private update. Also please do not repost our writings elsewhere without the author's explicit permission, whether they are locked entries or public ones."
It's made for an amazing repository of alterhuman writings that otherwise would have been totally lost to time, including for many people who identified as animal species that we don't often see in alterhuman spaces. It's honestly something I would love to see come back, or I would just love to see something new inspired by it.
