I don’t know if anyone came up with this but I might aswell, here’s a Dreemur Reborn AU idea, “Dreemur Reborn: Chara ver.” ;

At the end of a genocide route, instead of Chara killing Flowey, they are remorseful when they realize it’s Asirel as Flowey

(Not counting the hallway where Flowey saw their creepy smile, in this Flowey never had a bad experience with this Chara)

So instead of killing Asirel, Chara spares them and gives up their soul for Asirel and with comforting and reassuring words with hatred for the past and now the future, Chara tells Asirel to live in the surface wether he kills everyone or spares everyone.

(This may break some canon but this is a Fanon AU afterall)

Then this gives the option of either Pacifist or Genocide for Asirel, whether against or with humanity.

I was looking on YouTube for a guide to Undertale AUs because I wanted a more comprehensive guide to some of the more obscure ones, then realised that due to that one time I just went through all the AUs looking for more Undertale content, I could make one myself.

So here is Popular Undertale AUs(/AUs that I'm familiar with) for Newbies.

Dreemur Reborn: The first AU (I think). Asriel comes back (again, I think.)

Underfell: One of the earlier AUs. Basically Undertale but evil, completely open for people to do whatever they want with it, but the original is actually pretty cool and is a lot deeper than Undertale but evil.

Underswap: Undertale but people look different. After a while, the fandom began to swap personalities as well, but only kind of.

Inverted Fate: What if the Lost Souls (Toriel, Asgore, Sans, Papyrus, Undyne and Alphys) swapped with their counterpart? A long running story that's currently on 70+ chapters and still going. I'd strongly advise you read this one, it's really good.

Outertale: Undertale but in space.

DanceTale: Undertale but they dance, ig.

Fellswap: Underfell swapped.

Swapfell: Underswap felled. (Confusing. I know. I had to look up which was which.)

Horrortale: Post-neutral ending where Undyne becomes queen and everyone goes crazy I think???

Fellswap Gold: Fellswap but different. Has cool designs.

A.L.I.V.E: Post genocide Alphys jumps into the CORE and is pinged into the space between universes I think. Includes such rarely focused on characters as Mettaton and also has a crazy Sans because everyone needs a crazy Sans.

Also please don't be like "you missed X AU". No I didn't. These were the only ones I could think of that I knew enough about to give an idea of.

Information about Nap

Nap was a born a ghost from the Lost Era in Xirustale. One day, he stumbled upon a mysterious purple rock and was magically reincarnated as a human. However, due to the rocks cursed magic, they were forever cursed with immortality.

The rocks magic curse came with lots of other unique abilities as well, which allowed him to travel to different universes, meet new people, and stop himself from going insane. One day while visiting Undertale, he fell into the underground, where Toriel found them and raised them as her own child.

He lived with Toriel for months, until he decided it was time to leave the underground once and for all. He became best friends with Sans the Skeleton, Papyrus, Undyne, Alphys, and even King Asgore.

Only Flowey knew about his immortality and his ability to travel to other universes and wanted to use that power to take over this world. After defeating Flowey once and for all, they were able to free the monsters. He wanted to stay, but he knew he would just outgrow everyone.

With the monochrome child’s guidance, They decided to stay in The Omega Timeline, where he never felt out a place. he met lots of new faces and some old ones as well.

Like the original napstablook, he loves making music, though it could use some improvement.

They’re often shy when meeting new people, but after a while.

He can determine if you are a good person or not by reading your soul.

Also being part ghost allows him to fly.

Did you ever hear of the Undertale AU Dreemur Reborn? It’s basically a “Frisk gives Asriel their soul” ending and has major plural energy.

I have indeed! Back when Undertale was newer and readings of fan comics were popular on YouTube, we watched a couple about Dreemurr Reborn. Looking back, it was a very plural AU!

Underfell Frisk, Flowey, Asriel, and Chara

Frisk is the human you play as. Quite simple. They bonked their head on a stick on the fall down luckily they're good with first aid. They're a friendly child despite all the shit they went through. Their birth parents were abusive and the trauma rendered them mute with minor PTSD. They were put in an orphanage but escaped and went to commit suicide by diving into Mount Ebott but by a miracle they survived and saw it as a sign from God that they have a mission and after meeting Flowey who presented himself as a fallen angel they set on a quest to heal the wounds of an underground torn apart by the death of a child and the failure of a king.

Long ago monsterkind was ruled by Asgore and Toriel and their son Asriel and later their adopted child Chara Chara was the adopted child of the Dreemurs their past is something they are holding me at knife point not to discuss so don't ask. They are Asriel's only real friend. Things were rough even with the Dreemurs Toriel and Asgore were always bickering and it usually ended with Toriel sleeping outside the castle. Asgore wasn't cold hearted but incredibly stressed because the underground was in great peril and everyone was turning for him for help. He still cared about his family but put his kingdom first. He loved Asriel dearly and tried to make Asriel a better king than he ever was but he never did care much for Chara He believed Chara was a bad omen. He didn't trust humans after they betrayed his kind so long ago and neither did the rest of monsterkind One day monsters stormed the capital demanding Asgore kill and harvest Chara's soulIn a moment of weakness....he killed his own child. Toriel lashed out at him and he in a fit of rage and confusion snapped off her horn and banished her. Asriel horrified by this took Chara's soul and ran away to the surface but was not welcomed by humans who killed him brutally That was day Asgore lost everything And it was all his fault. That was the moment that broke Asgore and would lead to the downfall of his kingdom. A while later the scientist Alphys, who began to slowly descend into madness after learning the truth of what happened to Gaster, Toriel, and Chara at the hands of Asgore, extracted determination from the souls of dead humans to imbue life onto a flower. Not just any flower. But the first flower to grow from pollen brought from the surface from Asriel And so Asriel was reborn as Flowey He only has one goal: escape. However he doesn't remember anything about how he died Just that he was once a prince. He accompanies you in every route of the game acting as a guide, mentor, and bodyguard In the genocide route he adopts the motto "Kill or be killed" and through the players bad influence becomes like the Flowey from Undertale In the neutral route he betrays you. Not Frisk He actually cares for Frisk But YOU the player. He knows that once you escape you'll just reset again. Take away your happy ending Take away his happy ending Take away everyone's happy ending So he turns into Omega Flowey (who resembles a biblically accurate Angel) to fight the player specifically and try and save everyone In a way he's the true hero of the game. In the pacifist route it's mostly the same except after seeing your friends he has hope that you won't reset, that you'll give everyone the happy ending he's been hoping for and he absorbs the souls and all of monsters to destroy the barrier and save everyone....until he becomes Asriel....He suddenly remembers the events of his death and realizes the underground isn't worth saving....No one isSo he sets out to put this world out of its misery. But through the power of friendship you convince him that there is still hope and that your dreams are able to come true and he destroys the barrier.....And everyone lived happily ever after......until you betray them all..... because well.....there's other endings to get....you just have to see every possibility......you're never content even with everyone happy.....and so you reset again. Just to see what would happen if you.....i don't know...Killed everyone? =)

On the topic of, "y and x never met in canon so shipping them is pointless."

UTMV is the Kingdom Hearts of fandom, the Spiderverse but Slightly More unhinged. The whole fandom is built on the phrase, "What if this happened instead of that?"

And I really- REALLY mean that too. The first AU comic (I'd classify) could be pointed to Dreemur Reborn, a "What if" of Asriel given the opportunity to spend the rest of his days up on the surface with his family. Would you disregard that just because it's not canon?

This fandom is forever on the verge of starvation despite the sheer amount of fancontent it feeds itself every. single. day. And the people who give that content I'd wager elicit as much emotion and attachment as the original Undertale game did. Which only spawns sooo sooo much more possibilities and chances to transform these characters into the worst or best selves they could possibly be.

That's a staggering amount of creativity, and you want to ignore and shame it just because the creator had a different goal than what some people went with. And by all accounts these creators don't even have problems with the things that are shipped.

No matter how far apart two characters may seem, that "What if" clears that distance in a snap of it's fingers. Don't stop it man. Why stop it? If we were against this chaotic storytelling we wouldn't have all of the good and noteworthy fanfics that we have right now.

Undertale and Afton kids (FNAF) Story Crossover Idea

This UT AU x Afton Kids/FNAF Crossover idea is purely for fun and entertainment. I’m aware this idea seems really dumb, but I recently dove back into the UT AU fandom and felt that a lot more UT characters needed to be explored as Sans seems to have become the main focus in the UT AU. Which isn’t bad at all, as everyone can have fun however they please. I just felt that there are a lot of characters in Undertale, and they need to be shown some more love. 

Also, I’m still a little salty about the fact that FNAF Ultimate Custom night is not canon. It sort of took away the satisfaction I felt for seeing William Afton burn in the true end of Pizzeria Simulator. That doesn’t mean I’m not excited about the new FNAF games.

I’m just a person trying to have fun and enjoy fandoms I like in a (debatably) unique way. I would love to get input on what AUs you guys think I could use. Feel free to leave head-canons and whatnot. 

If anyone has done an idea similar or like this I wouldn’t know, so absolutely feel free to notify me! Story ideas and more below! 

Michael Afton

Michael’s story would be learning how to to forgive oneself. Which is why I think the most compatible characters for him would be the Dreemurs. 

 It’s a maybe for Chara because it depends on one’s interpretation of their character. As some have them be truly evil or a sociopath, while others have them well-meaning, but unintentionally harmful. But most interpretations I’ve seen have Chara really caring about Asriel, but being mean to him because ISSUES.

Possible AUs: My first choice would be Swaptale. However, I have considered Swapfell as a viable option as well. 

Elizabeth Afton

Elizabeth’s story would be learning how to establish her own identity without the intrusion of Circus Baby’s murderous AI and programing. The characters I would think to pair with her would be classic Undyne, or a character akin to her. 

I would say Asriel, but most UT AU stories I know of don’t really have Asriel as a major player (except for the Dreemur-Reborn AU or Endertale, but I don’t feel comfortable messing around with those AUs, since they are amazing as is). 

Possible AU: Dancetale could be a fun one to play around with, as it could provide focus on the development of Elizabeth’s character and interests in a more positive light. However, I feel Underfell fits as well, as this AU is closer to the tone of the story Elizabeth comes from (aka. Sister Location).  

Crying Child (C.C.)

The Crying Child’s story would be learning to forgive (properly), but mostly just growing up, becoming less fearful and more positive. I’d say Alphyus and Papyrus (Even Napstablook!) would be perfect friends for the child (Undyne is a bonus, but not the main focus as for Elizabeth).  

Possible AU: Outertale or just my own interpretation of classic Undertale I guess? Idk, I’m sort of stumped when it comes to this kid honestly. oof.

Underfell Headcanons

Just some ideas I had for that hypothetical Underfell fangame that will probably be used in my interpretation of the universe in future fics.

- Toriel is very much stuck in the past, torn between wanting to protect Frisk and wanting her out of sight. When Frisk tries to leave, she’ll accidentally call her Chara before breaking down emotionally and allowing her passage.

- Papyrus’s battle is the very opposite of his UT counterpart. He can and will kill you. His boss battle is a wake-up call for what the rest of the game will be like for you if you’re playing Pacifist.

- Go on a date with him and he won’t friendzone Frisk. In fact, he practically insists you’re dating now and demands you call him every five minutes. Be patient with him - he’s still working this whole feeling things thing out.

- After befriending certain monsters, Frisk has to play mediator for some of them: Sans and Papyrus, Undyne and Alphys, and Mettaton and Napstablook. This part of the game is called reconciliation. This is required for True Pacifist

- To reconcile Sans and Papyrus, it involves a lot of going back and forth and hearing their respective grievances. Frisk must go to Grillby’s with Sans and have hung out with/dated Papyrus.

- These two blubber a lot once they air out their feelings to each other and it ends in a hug. You have the option of joining the hug, but if you try to walk away, they both just yank Frisk towards them and sandwich her right in there.

- If you befriended and reconciled the skeleton brothers, they’ll try to stop Undyne from attacking you. The key word is try.

- Contrarily, if you befriended Papyrus and Sans, but didn’t reconcile them, they’ll still try to help, but Undyne attacks Sans and nearly kills him. This leaves Sans out of commission for the rest of the game with Papyrus taking care of him at home, and leaves Undyne unable to be befriended for the rest of the route because Papyrus now holds a grudge against her.

- It’s possible to screw up the Alphys and Undyne reconciliation, but in a hilarious way. Like in UT, Alphys will think the letter delivered to her is from Frisk. However, Undyne will walk in at the wrong time during the role play and think the two are on a date - fail to clear things up with her, and Undyne will despise you. Also, if you previously dated Papyrus, he’ll be mad at you too. The whole Underground thinks you’re a player now.

- If you’re completing a Genocide run, there is no fight with Sans. Flowey watches on in horror as Sans begs for MERCY, being the only monster that tries to back out of a fight, but Frisk kills him without a shred of hesitation.

- Chara also allows Frisk to leave the Underground with no strings attached. She feels satisfied now that the monsters that hurt her in the past are no longer a threat to anyone anymore. She only asks that Frisk does what she couldn’t do - live a happy life.

- If you’re on the True Pacifist path however, Sans will fight Frisk. However, it more closely mirrors the battle with Papyrus in UT, in that it’s impossible to die in this fight. It’s still an insanely difficult fight, perhaps even more so than UT Sans’s. His attacks have no fixed pattern, and become more and more erratic before he finally tires out. He doesn’t want Frisk to go...

- The final boss isn’t Asriel Dreemur. It’s Chara. She sees you making friends with the monsters that eventually caused her life to end, and she feels jealous, angry, and confused. Together with Flowey/Asriel, Frisk and the rest of the monsters try to soothe her tormented SOUL.

- The final battle is one last reconciliation - Chara and Asriel.

- A reborn Chara decides afterward that she’s going to voluntarily stay in the empty Underground for now, and Flowey elects to stay behind with her so she isn’t alone. The other monsters tell her she’s more than welcome to join them on the surface if she ever changes her mind.

- And depending on if certain choices are made... maybe she does :)

FLASHBack: Week 97 - ShadowAOD's Deltarune Cutscene Remakes

So on FLASHBack, we've spent almost two years now pondering the question, "What makes a Classic Flash Animation?" -- Does it have to have won awards? How important was popularity? Did its viral internet buzz influence other creators and possibly even leak out into the real world? And a question pivotal to this week's entries: Does it have to be some dusty relic of the early web that you have to be some nostalgic Gen-X'er in his mid 40s to even remember, who even uses Flash these days anyways no wonder Adobe's getting rid of it at the end of the year? Alright, that's actually a run-on sentence with two questions and a statement, but the point stands. And so, this week, in honor of the second anniversary of the release of Chapter 1 of Toby Fox's Deltarune (also the announcement that Chapter 2 should release sometime in 2020, to which I'm guessing maybe on Halloween), we're going to look at some Deltarune fan animations that were made with the help of Flash, less than one year ago. And unlike the continuations of some long running web animation series that began as Flash, and are still updating in 2020, these animations were put together in Flash, while those longtime creators have moved on to other software, making these the youngest Flashes to be featured throughout all of FLASHBack.   Halloween is a good time to talk about Toby Fox and his fans, as he first rose to prominence for his "Halloween Hack" romhack of the game EarthBound made for starmen.net's 2008 Halloween Funfest. A few years later, he found himself living in the basement of the creator of the Flash-heavy webcomic Homestuck, Andrew Hussie, making Homestuck music while starting work on his own game projects, Undertale and Deltarune. Toby's music was a major portion of the soundtrack Homestuck's End of Act 5, Cascade, which went down in history on 25 October 2011 as "The Flash That Broke the Internet". Less than a week later on Halloween, his song English would be used as the soundtrack for Homestuck's second intermission, The Man in the Cairo Overcoat. The popularity and name recognition he got from the Homestuck fandom and the music he made for that webcomic's Flashes allowed him to have a wildly successful Kickstarter for his first game Undertale, and then on Halloween of 2016, he released the first chapter of his second, Deltarune.   But despite that wordy passage up there, I'm not here to talk about Toby. Instead, I'd like to focus on the work of one of his fans, pixel artist ShadowAOD, aka DOA687, aka Maber. In December of 2019, ShadowAOD posted some remakes of cutscenes from the opening of the game Deltarune. The initial spritework had been done in aseprite, but they then composited all their sprite animations into Flash for the final scenes. The first remade scene posted to YouTube, on 14 December, was Toriel taking Kris to school in the morning (For comparison, the game's original cutscene can be found from 0:20 - 1:35 in this video). ShadowAOD has added working doors to the minivan, a cameo for Toby Fox's self-insert character the Annoying Dog, and made the students more reactive to Kris' late arrival (including a exchange of waves between Kris and Noelle).  

The next two remakes were posted on 20 December 2019. For Susie confronting Kris in the hallway about her chalk eating habits (Original Scene 2:43 - 4:44 here), ShadowAOD has given Susie's sprite more range of motion, allowing her to face the camera at times, lending emotional weight to her bullying of Kris, and the scene is now punctuated at the end with a subtle shiver of fear from Kris. The remake of the Entry into the Dark World (Original Scene 5:58 - 6:51 here), Susie now pounds on the shut closet door in panic, the two look down as the floor gives way beneath them, as they plummet, their large sprites are animated as tumbling instead of just scaling down off into the distance, and Kris' recovery from being unconscious on the ground is more realistic, with a reaction to their changed appearance in the Dark World.   ShadowAOD has also done a Flash animation for Toby Fox's earlier game, Undertale. Posted to YouTube on 22 March 2016, and three days later to Newgrounds (where it took Daily 5th Place), The Choice is an animation of the first comic from the Undertale AU webcomic Dreemur Reborn. This one shows off ShadowAOD's strengths as a sprite artist, as rather than trying to keep mostly true to the original game's style while adding additional detail and polish as they did with their later Deltarune remakes, for this Flash, they re-imagined Undertale's sprites to have a more 3D rendered look.   That wraps it up for this week. Next week, I'll do something a little bit different.

Name : Asriel Dreemur Age : Unknown (13 at time of death) Instrument of choice :  Asriel : Lyre Flowey : None Prince Asriel was a beloved son and full of kindness, even to the point where it may have been his downfall. His parents refuse to listen to harps of any kind due to losing their son.  He was reborn as Flowey. Flowey is a carnation flower. He has no music to speak of, since he has no SOUL. So when he sings, it sounds AWFUL, and is EXTREMELY painful. He can not summon an instrument. He wants to rule the Underground, and gain all 7 human souls to become a GOD. If in another universe he would go by the name Petal. He would not have a musical based name due to not having music talent anymore after his death.
