WICKERBOTTOM REWORK SPOILERS
.
.
.
.
Okay, but can we talk about this?! The secret room? And that peculiar eye symbol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Could this mean Wickerbottom belongs to a secret society? A cult? Is she perhaps a witch as some people speculated?
What do you guys think this sigil could mean?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, the fact that she already had the knowledge of the existence of the Constant and its creatures is quite interesting to see...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To be honest, I already speculated it was Willow, who burned down the library.
Tumblr media
Though this little piece of paper seems rather interesting, was Willow at any point involved with the strange dissapearances? This fire seemed to be quite intentional and throughout planned. Did she just randomly decided to burn this specific library? Or...Does she work for a certain someone, or at least used to at some point in time.

Aright it was driving me nuts that I didn't know where Wagstaff was so I did some googling.
This is the statue that was in the background of the circus. It was so detailed that I assumed it was an important landmark.
Tumblr media
I was half-right.
I found one statue that was a close match.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are images of the Wellington Arch, in London. The statue on top is called the Angel of Peace. It's a pretty close match, except the Wellington Arch has several figures on top, not just an angel. That, and the one in the video is taller.
The other thing that the Wellington Arch has going for it is that it's located in an area called the Piccadilly Circus. Which, sadly, isn't an actual circus.
My only other guess would be he's in Paris France, because that was the starting point for the first Gordon Bennett Cup Balloon race in 1906. I'll do more digging.

With the new Don't Starve lore animation, I can't help but feel like Wilson's piece not veing on the board is intentional. If it were another survivor, sure, they probably can't fit a drawing of every character on there, but Wilson? Someone who is arguably the main character? It makes me think of the fact that, in order for a pawn to become a king.. it has to go unseen and unnoticed.

Ok I know this isn’t my thing but I have a theory for the ancients in don’t starve together, all info gathered from the wiki, specifically the pages for the Metheus puzzles and the ancient fuelweaver.
So, the ancients. The mysterious race of intelligent bug-like beings who inhabited the constant long before the survivors. They lived primarily underground, (after choosing to move there to hide from the harsh climates and/or to escape the watchful eye of their god, the moon “Alter”.) in what is now known as the ruins.
In their society, there were two leaders- Metheus and (who is currently known as) the ancient fuelweaver, But back then was known as Cyclum. Metheus (based off of the mythological greek legend of Prometheus who brought fire to humanity) who wielded the light that kept the shadows at bay, and Fuelweaver, who wielded a staff of some kind (perhaps magical, I’m not sure.).
The civilization was prosperous, with plenty of food (mainly carrots/other vegetables based off the illustrations), building resources (most likely thulecite) and weaponry, should they need it.
While this was going on, at the heart of the city lied the Ancient Gateway (which may or may not have been used as a power source), which was protected by Metheus and Fuelweaver, and was maintained using the balanced powers of light and dark.
Then, Fuelweaver began to dabble more and more in shadow magic, using it to care for his people; using it to feed the weak/young, to build more effectively, to further crop growth and to produce materials (and possibly to reanimate the dead, though I’m uncertain). However, Metheus had a bad feeling about this, clinging to her to torch tightly, while both of them were unaware of Gateway losing its stability, the dark magic now dominating the light. The people began to favor FW over Metheus for his heroic deeds as well.
Eventually, the constant use of the dark magic causes the Gateway to become unstable, and darkness begins to seep out of it, along with waves of nightmare creatures. Fuelweaver is unable to fight off the shadows and collapses, expecting his demise- but then, Metheus comes to his aid, using her light as a shield to protect fuelweaver, and in the process, sacrificing herself in order to protect him. After witnessing the death of his close friend, and seeing the corpses of his citizens littering the ground, the fuelweaver dragged himself to the nightmare throne, seating himself upon it in a final attempt to stop the rampaging shadows that took everything from him. (It could just be a normal throne, but it is also highly likely to be the nightmare throne). Completely alone, seated on the throne, the lone former ruler of the ancients wept, for his friend, for his people, and at his ignorance.
Eventually, the fuelweaver was consumed by the darkness, being reduced to a haunted skeleton and (after either being replaced or by some other means) eventually became the beast we all know, still protecting the Gateway as he once did.
The tale of Cyclum and Metheus may be a parallel to Maxwell and Charlie, albeit with many differences. Dude messes around with shadow magic that scares his gal pal, said shadow magic comes back to bite him in the ass, they lose everything including their humanity, and ultimately end up with no bitches. You know how when Maxwell was freed from the nightmare throne he was turned into a skeleton? Maybe FW is a skeleton as a result of being removed from the throne.

An analyzation of Wanda, the Timekeeper (because she’s my favorite character lore-wise)
Wanda is a character who’s mysterious origins rival those of Woodie’s. It’s known she’s being hunted by the shadows, and from the sounds of her quotes (”There’s no need to be afraid of curses if you’re clever enough to outsmart them.”), her knowledge of the Constant and its inner workings (like Wagstaff, for example), and her apparent skill in outrunning the shadows (she knows exactly what to take and is rather quick with time-travelling), they’ve most likely been tracking her for a while.
But why?
She’s not the first character to be hunted in such a manner like this - Mr. George T. Witherstone from Wes’ short comes to mind. However, Mr. Witherstone was being deliberately hunted by Maxwell, most likely because of the threatening letter sent and Maxwell’s own owed debts from his time as William Carter. Maxwell doesn’t seem to hold any grudge against Wanda, however, and he does take care to warn her against using her time powers and in fact seems to be familiar with them: "Careful, madam. I know where this trail ultimately leads." and "She doesn't understand the full extent of the power she's toying with." come to mind. In fact, he barely even seems to recognize her, and Wanda doesn't seem to waste much time with him. I think it's safe to assume (for now…) that Maxwell wasn't the one to orchestrate her capture.
It doesn't seem to be Charlie, either. Wanda doesn't seem to be afraid of Charlie (which she most likely would be if she was the reason that she was now trapped in the Constant), rather she seems afraid of the power Charlie holds - namely, the nightmares and shadows. Noticeably, when she's being stalked by Charlie, Wanda exclaims "They found me… N-no! Stay away!" She isn't afraid of Charlie. She's afraid of Them. A good many of her quotes express this as well, namely ones for Magic or Shadow items, and especially with anything relating to Nightmares. Charlie may be on the Nightmare Throne and have control of the shadows, but there are things even beyond her reach. The Gestalts, for example. Wanda mentions a deal made with a mysterious entity when inspecting them. Could she have made a deal with Alter, who is known to use the Gestalts to communicate with survivors?
There's more evidence to support possible connections to Alter or Them. When Wanda accidentally creates a rift in time by using a broken clock, moments from past trailers/cinematics can be seen. Alter's eye being revealed, Charlie on the Nightmare Throne, Wagstaff observing Alter, the background to the Metheus Puzzles, and possibly a clip from "What Lies Beyond?" which is unlocked after completing the Metheus Puzzles. A possible connection to Metheus and the Ancient Civilization? Metheus is wholly mysterious as of now, but there's more information for the Ancient Civilization, so let's just talk about that. The Ancients were known to worship Alter, however they forsook them once Nightmare Fuel was discovered. Wanda uses Nightmare Fuel for some of her clocks, and seems to know how to use its power in some way. Additionally, the appearances of the Ancients resemble Terrorbeaks, one of which is seen - you guessed it - chasing Wanda in her animated short.
This whole thing really is a mess when it comes to how it's formatted, but I want to talk about Them more! Shut up, this is my analyzation post, I can do what I want. Anyways, I already mentioned up there about how Wanda seems to be afraid of Them. Well, I was looking through the wiki to get more research, and I stumbled upon something that I thought was kind of interesting. Wanda seems to be very familiar with the Nightmare Cycle and the Ancient Guardian. If They were the ones to chase her, it doesn't seem too far-fetched of an idea to imagine that she recognizes some of their little tricks. Also, she has quotes for being on the Nightmare Throne (all DST characters do, albeit unimplemented), which is one of Their creations.
AAAAH I'm getting distracted! I made this entire post just to talk about one thing…
Tumblr media
This.
This photo.
Wanda's shadow shifts into a Shadow Hand. Meaning that they're (whoever they might be) not done with her yet. Wanda was definitely meant to be brought into the Constant, but that wasn't their final goal. They still have more in store for the Timekeeper.
And I can’t wait to see what it is.

Now theory time!!!
Evidence would suggest that Wilson’s house is Wagstaff’s old house. You can see his goggles and the radio.
Tumblr media
Then that means...
Tumblr media
THIS FUCKING SKELETON BURIED UNDER THE HOUSE MIGHT BE WOODROW’S OLD BODY
That old fucker really brought Woodrow’s empty body with him to his house and put it under the floor 💀

BITCHESSSSSS I REWATCHED THE WENDY ANIMATION TO FIND A FRAME AND MY BRAIN WENT OFF AB SOMETHING ILL KILL😭😭
Tumblr media
in this frame the flowers behind Abigail are all grey and just stand there sadly while the ones closer to Wendy are still looking red and pretty alive. And while this is just likely to be a lighting thing, I WANNA GO OFF AB THIS AND THE ANIMATION SO GET READY
Tumblr media
First things first, as much as Wish you were here is SUCH a good animation for Wendy, I feel like the pandemic really affected its production, as we dont really have storyboards for it, or at least not any that i could find and it has some very chaotic storytelling, which tbh fits wendy PERFECTLY with her chaotic grief, but i feel like it leaves the viewer a bit confused over what they just saw. Because of this, i have mostly seen 2 interpretations of this animation.
Version number 1. is the general, oh the animation is a hallutination induced by Wendys poor mental state, as the screen gets more grey at the end when she realises abigail is gone, which would mean that her sanity is low. And tbh i kinda have a lot of mixed feelings on this take, as it leaves a lot of things unexplained, but it is also an EXTREMELY likely possibility for wendy to either be in a psychotic episode due to her loss, or any other stuff that could cause it.
MY issue with this take is that it leaves the question, why the hell was Abigails ghost there in the first place then?
Tumblr media
Why would the flower come down at the start of the animation and leave at the end, if Abigail isnt actually there.
Tumblr media
Also like, Wendy didnt even see the flower, she doesnt react to it being next to her, she doesnt pick it up, WHY WOULD IT BE THERE?
Tumblr media
And all of this leads me to version number 2, of this animations meaning. Wendys description has always been "Haunted by her twin sister" (or at least in ds lmao). So this just leads me to believe Abigail is actually there.
We know from the quotes that Abigail can still move in her flower most probably, that or she can fully go invisible, idk know tbh, klei doesnt give us almost any info ab how the ghosts work😭😭 but both would explain the flower coming down FROM THE FUCKING HEAVENS AT THIS POINT, to visit Wendy and then leave at the end. (also the thing i talked ab at the start with the flowers in the bush looking alive)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Wendy clearly cant see Abigail in these quotes)
But i have to admit, if this is the chase, then why the FUCK would Abigail come down to visit Wendy only to fall off the cliff MOST PROBABLY AGAIN, i have no fucking clue.
Could this be determined if we had more info on the ghosts? most probably.
Why was Abigail there in the first place? Probably there to cheer Wendy up or just wanting to play with her again tbh.
Why did Abigail decide to fuck off at the end when Jack shows up? Tbh idk but its probably the fact her goal is most probably just to look over Wendy, since the flower is still there by her side.
Did this probably affect Wendy EVEN MORE, as both her and her family probably thought she was losing it? If this theory is true, then 100% yes.
why did the sanity loss filter appear at the end? Either Abigail going back into the flower, or just the realization that OOPS, NOBODY THERE.
But yeah this is pretty much it. Both takes on it leave some questions tbh, and while i like the second more for being more mystical and kinda goofy both of these are just as likely. THAT OR ITS BOTH. THAT OR ITS FUCKING NEITHER IDK
THIS
Tumblr media
THIS IS ALL I WAS FUCKING SEARCHING FOR WHEN MY BRAIN SAW THAT BUSH AND FUCKING LOST IT. HONEST ABIGAIL REACTION

I wonder if you ever thought why Wes has the lowest sanity of all the characters? Surely something very bad that caused him a very big trauma?
I want to hear your theories
Tumblr media
Actually, i did! :0
after his re-work, all that i could think about was that since it was an accident due to his bad luck that he got into the constant, he was put inside the invisible box right after his arrival
He was trapped there and kept in isolation, just looking at the days passing by around the box until someone found him, if that ever happened, so his sanity just slowly started to drop till that so desired day.
((Aaah! i really enjoy to think about their backgrounds and lore, it makes me so happy to come up with theories for my favorite game))

Timeline shenanigans
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve seen people point out how the memory seen in the new animation doesn’t match the scene seen in the Praecantator puzzle, and I’m fairly confident that it’s no mistake (Klei is very intentional with such details).
Of course there is the fact that said “memory” seems to consist of fragments from various memories. Some, but not necessarily all, Maxwell’s own private memories, many from moments when Charlie wasn’t even present. But some are likely Charlie’s memories (remember that these were shown within a dream influenced by Charlie), and those often flash by quickly.
But even if it was a single memory from Maxwell’s apartment, it is clearly from a different time than the puzzle images. Now you see Maxwell struggling to keep the shadows under control in his secret compartment. In the puzzle images he was in the portrait on the wall. And not only that, the room seems to be completely messed up, with the wallpaper and posters torn and the furniture scattered around in disarray.
My initial thought, seeing how Maxwell was struggling with the shadows trying to break loose from his head, was that he’d already lost control before and turned into a monster in that room and wrecked it himself. But, that room actually does look like something seen in the puzzle images...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This memory - including Charlie as seen here - is clearly from AFTER the earthquake. The memory where she enters the secret compartment doesn’t have the apartment messed up, so that was from the moment we know from the puzzle images, but there is this one mixed in where she enters it again, another time, after the disaster.
But how can that be? These two were literally pulled into the Constant when the earthquake happened!
Tumblr media
I can’t tell you that, but it’s clear that a lot happened in between then and “now” that we still don’t know about.
Apparently these two managed to escape the Constant at least once, returning to the ruined San Francisco, even if only briefly. But they couldn’t escape Them with Maxwell having the shadows inside him now. And there is a brief flash of Charlie turning into her shadow version in that moment as well, so I guess it wasn’t any better for her (if it’s from the same memory).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, it would be an easy guess to make that after this “escape”, Maxwell got locked up on the Nightmare Throne to keep him from running away again - until Wilson finally released him. But They want him back under Their control, and then we get Charlie giving him the rose (I do think Maxwell is quite aware it’s a trap, but that’s an entirely different topic).
Clearly it’s possible to leave the Constant. We’ve seen Wagstaff bring stuff out from there as well. But leaving is pointless as long as They are in control. And They are always watching.

okay so biggg trans hc dump up ahead. idk how read mores work and i was sleep deprived as hell when i wrote this so idk
okay so trans maxwell right? trans maxwell. but consider that if one part of a pair of identical twins is trans then typically the other one will be too. so trans jack.
and thats just dandy and opens up a lot of interesting paths you could take with that. and look, ive got a whole deleted version of this post thats twice as long going over the whole wendy and abi thing, so just trust me when i say that ive thought about it, lol
and just listen to me. the idea that both jack and maxwell are trans makes me feel so much. perhaps the reason they seem to be rather close is because they share this one aspect of themself with the other.
imagine a nervous william admitting his darkest secret to his twin and finding out that the other has been dealing with the exact same thing the whole time. or jack putting on a brave face and telling william that he wishes he was born a boy and william saying that he feels the same, and that maybe they werent born that way but they could become who they know they are inside. neither of them will face this alone, so long as the other is there
contrast this with trans, hirsute wilson. wilson, who feels like no one in the world understands. no gets why hes happy he has hirsutism, and why he refuses to shave, because they think hes a woman. he cant tell them that he feel like his body has finally got the memo thats hes a man, that it feels right to be able to grow a beard. its no becoming cis over night, but it makes him feel better. gender euphoria and all that jazz
wilson feels like who he is in the inside is finally being reflected outwards. and if other people dont like the truth... well, he doesn’t need them anyhow. he knows who is, and thats all that matters.
when wilson moves to america, it is very much like turning a new leaf. here, he decided, he would live as a man- and nobody would ever know the truth. and it feels great. but it also feels very lonely. it feels very isolating, and he has a dark secret all over again. hes not lying to himself or others anymore, but he knows how fragile this new life is. one wrong move, one wrong person confided in, and this whole new life hes constructed for himself will crumble in front of his eyes.
all of this considered, is it so much of a shock that he withdraws himself, swearing the only friend he needs to be science? refusing to interact with others unless absolutely necessary, never letting himself get close to anyone. to protect himself
all of this compounds into living alone in a rickety shack in the woods, far from anyone else. never seeing anyone except the postman on the other side of the window.
wilson might pass much better, but he lacks something maxwell has- a support system, someone who understands him. this isolation protects him from the transphobia of the outside world, but its loneliness all the same
its this that makes him willing to listen to the smooth talking stranger over the radio. he has no one, and when even science itself seems to fail him, hes eager to hear out the first friendly voice hes heard in a long time.
when hes trapped in the constant, it almost feels like reality has come back to smack some sense into him. of course, of course this would happen, who was he kidding?
when he frees maxwell and then precedes to be freed himself it takes them both a long time to figure out that the other is trans. they are both very well trained in hiding this specific part of themselves, but theres only so long you can hide this kind of thing from some one you are literally surviving in the woods with
so when someone inevitably finds out, i think it would be a whole ordeal. if its maxwell figuring it out then i think he would be more chill about it but wilson would lose his goddamn mind. for the first time, wilson finally has someone who understands him and doesn’t judge him.
it would change everything. wilson gets more comfortable with maxwell than he ever has with anyone else and maxwell can understand and he can understand maxwell
its been so long since maxwell had had another person like him around, and its like a breath of fresh air. he doesnt have to watch what he says, he doesnt have to make sure that his voice doesnt sound too high, he can just be honest with who he is, and wilson wont judge him. infact, wilson almost seems to like him more because of it
maybe they try to go back to how they were after this reveal but they just cant. they know too much now to just go back to the way they were. and maybe they find that they dont really want to, anyways
they might be in hell, but theyve got each other.
all of this to say, t4t maxwil is the best maxwil. trans rights baybeeeeee

Ok idk why, but Klause is one of my favorite bosses from don’t starve together. Mostly because of design and lore.
1 He has a valid reason to fight you. Ok so to start the fight with Klause you gotta find his stash which is a bag, then you gotta find a no eyed deer antler to try to unlock it as it is surrounded by a key. The lock will dial and break and Klause will come. Klause his blind and relies on his sense of smell and cannot speak due to both his eyes and mouth being sewn shut. So basically you try to steal from a blind man and when he comes to defend his stuff then you kill him.
2 He is a caring pet owner. He has two deer whom he seems to care much for, he gives them gems so that they can use fucking magic and he even gets enraged when they die becoming super powerful.
3 He May be the real goddamn Santa. I know this may be a crackpot theory but imma say it anyways. So when you kill Klause you can get gifts from his stash as he drops the working key to it, then stays contains wrapped bundles and during the winters feast they look like wrapped gifts. These gifts drop Gems, Hold and most importantly charcoal. There’s another place in the game where these gifts spawn, Under the Christmas tree in the winters feast which get there when you sleep and the screen grows black. Since we don’t see who delivers the gifts we can deduce that since Klause is the only one that has access to these gifts it must be him delivering them. With the context of us finding these gifts in his stash it turns out we don’t just kill a blind man for his stuff, we kill him for the stuff he was going to give as gifts.
6 His connection to krampus. In his fight he summons two krampus to help, Krampus is a mob that comes when you do to many naughty deeds (Killing to many innocent creatures like Glommer or rabbits.) So we can deduce he is a leader of some kind to the krampus with their similarities in appearance. It can also be observed that Krampus only steals and does not aim to kill so it seems you kill some sort of leader of a justice system in the constant.
7 Klause can use items and is in fact very powerful. In the second phase of the fight you kill Klause and he comes back to life with a life giving amulet he was wearing. This shows he can use items and can plan ahead making him much more intelligent than other bosses who are mostly animals. Also in phase 2 he loses the chains he had in phase one as he gets more powerful showing that he was holding back or restrained in some way.
Just wanted to talk about one of my favorite bosses in concept and design. I just like the image of this giant monster chasing someone down giving them fear and trauma only to give them a gift when catches them.

Wendy and Abby fuck me up so bad just like in general but what keeps coming back to haunt me is wondering how long they had to go through it all just them two. How many times did Wendy die, how many times did Abby watch the light fading from the eyes of her twin. How many times was it slow, how many times was it in a split moment, how many times were they together when it happened, how many times did Wendy die completely alone. It's just like god damn no wonder Wendy talks Like That not only did Abby die but poor kid has been forced to become accustomed with death in a much more direct way than even adults are built to handle
#rat rambles#dst#and like if I may read more into these characters than was probably intended#I feel like a lot of abby's in game behavior just clicks once you look at her from a oh this kid has watched her sibling die a Lot#like no wonder shes so protective#also love how abby's constant wandering and twirling also adds up like yeah shes a bored kid with too much energy#but yeah I think ppl tend to not realize just how big a part being stuck in the constant is in regards to hashtag wendy depression moments#although its reasonable since not everyone has read all of this brats dialogue like me <3#dont read all of wendy's dialogue you will feel your brain melting like 5 minutes in#but yeah wendy brings up the whole being stuck in the constant thing a Lot#and wendy is under no illusion that death is an escape in fact he brings up the fact that its not quite a bit too#oh and I think ppl get the flavor of wendy's suicidal thoughts wrong most of the time#hes currently much more in the go to sleep and not wake up flavor than the I want to be with my lost loved one flavor#its less abt wanting to die and more abt wanting to stop being able to be in pain#luckily thing have technically gotten better for the both of them#like ofc theyre still fucked up and traumatized and still Being traumatized but at least theyre not alone#theres some sense of normalcy. wendy has friends now and in theory so does abby.#they can afford to just be kids again. not always unfortunately but much more than before#shit still sucks but at least they have the other survivors now
