fear does have a scent to it tbh. a sort of sweaty, uncomfortable smell, sometimes with a hint of bile or blood, but only enough to be a suggestion. pain is more biological, the bile-blood-offal smell is much stronger and more unpleasant. in sickness they eclipse other scents entirely, and an often stale, layered sweat smell forms the undertone. sometimes there's also rot.

Silly little nonsense DBDA headcannon, (sorta headcannon? ridiculous hypothetical scenario may be more accurate,) for y'all.
It's to do with the whole, whether or not the boys can float/fly, question I remember seeing floating around a while back. (Cause they can in the comics but don't seem to in the show.)
So, for the purposes of this we'll say that, yes, they could fly, technically, as they are not bound by mortal rules like, ya know, not walking through walls.
But, I might also add that new ghosts don't immediatly fall to the center of the Earth, so, it's probably a little bit about what they imagine they can do from when they were alive. Or, more specifically, what they imagine their surrondings to be and how they should be interacting with them influences how they would instinctivly react, even as ghosts.
So, imagine for me:
Charles and Edwin are on a case. They're interveiwing some magic-shop shopkeeper or other, who can see ghosts, and seems to have a bit of information.
But who is also just really fucking suspicious.
Like, picture this guy as having a swishy black cloak and twirling an evil little moustache, if you must.
The boys go along with it for a while, but after a bit they're like, okay, we know you're definatly evil as fuck.
And Charles goes to bonk him on the head with his cricket bat so they can then go wrap up the case and whatnot.
But before he can, this guy is like, "Ha! You thought I wouldn't be prepared for this exact scenario?" in the most cartoonishly evil voice you can imagine, and then dramatically slams some button on the side of his desk. A game-show-esque buzzer of faliure and defeat going off.
The background music turns to crickets.
When absoultly nothing seems to happen, Chalres and Edwin just stare at the guy.
After a few moments of this shopkeeper villan looking very distressed and confused, he just waves a hand towards the boys.
Charles and Edwin both look down, towards where he waves, at the exact same time to find a trapdoor gaping open directly under their feet.
They look at eachother with a simultanious, "fuck." and immediatly drop down into the depths.
Music resumes.
