Thinking about old vs new recording athena again, you’re so right about old athena “you’re alone” being a genuinely surprise to her. She didn’t realize she was alone until that very moment — it’s exactly how wolfy’s animatic portrays it — a genuine moment of shock and unexpected hurt. It’s like a “oh, I never thought of this. Shit, is he right?” Moment. Meanwhile for new athena it’s like. She’s always known this. And it’s always been a sore spot but it’s like a tacit agreement between Odysseus and athena to not mention the sore points of this relationship — they dont bring up Athena’s self-inflicted solitude or acknowledge that Odysseus’ attempts at befriending Athena have always been unreciprocated. But now that hes been hurt by the fact that she’s willing to cut him off just like that showing she never placed any importance on their friendship, he also brings up Athena’s unspoken sore spot to hurt her the way he’s been hurt.

New my goodbye is more of a tragic, messy breakup full of volatile emotions on both ends aiming to HURT each other the most, old my goodbye is almost more one sided — old athena mostly feels disappointment, disapproval, anger that he didn’t obey her, while Odysseus feels hurt and anger at her lack of compassion and lack of care for their relationship, while new Athena feels more conflicted emotions of sadness and anger even before Odysseus spoke — deep down she did see Odysseus as a friend, deep down it does hurt her to leave him, but she’s doing it anyway because of her pride, because of her reputation, because she thinks it’s the right thing to do. Whereas old athena genuinely never realized how much she liked Odysseus and how solitude hurt — until Odysseus pointed it out and she was forced to stew on those words for 10 years.

Also. Maybe I’m reading too much into it. But the old version of the ‘your dead friends can attest’ ‘Hey!’ ‘Put your emotions aside’ bit has different vibes to the new one.

In the old one, there’s something almost dismissive about it — ‘Why are you getting emotional about what I just said? Stop that, I’m trying to talk to you.’ I don’t think the ‘dead friends’ comment was really intended to hurt — it’s delivered almost like an observation, in a kind of throwaway manner.

But the new version… it’s like you said, it’s messier. In the new version, Athena sounds like she knows EXACTLY what she’s doing when she says that. It’s designed to hurt. And then she gets annoyed with Odysseus for showing the emotions she knew that line would provoke.

So. Yeah. In the old recording, I’m not sure Athena even realised she’d started an argument. She was fully expecting to monologue at Odysseus for a couple of minutes and then walk away. She wasn’t anticipating him shouting right back at her — and might even have been a little confused that his line of attack was so personal, sort of like, ‘I told you things that are objectively true* and you started yelling insults for some reason???’

Also. ‘I’m not looking for a friend.’ In the old version, I think she believes that. In the new version, she just says it to be cruel.

*At least, she thinks they are. The possibility that she might be wrong just doesn’t occur to her.

In shame, you just taped a piece of paper that said "pretend that I have the best costume you ever seen!" to your chest and hang out in the corner, enviously staring at the other people's cool costume. You could just go home but there was free food so you stayed there, eating all the cheese crackers. You thought you could not talk to anyone but you thought wrong. The comedic skeleton came up to you, reading the paper and said "that is the best costume I ever seen." the second meeting was when koffin-k toilet papered all 4 houses with the boogiemen including you. Then crossbones came in, saving the day. In a glance, He recognized you and you recognized him. What a twist a long time stanger turned out to be a villain full of mischief. You were captured with koffin-k but you land out a hand to help your boss escape in a quick sweep. You threw him like a frisbee out of the trenches of a shack. He escaped with your help and yelled out very loudly "I WILL COME BACK FOR YOU WITH BACKUP" while spinning in the wind. so there you were, alone with crossbones in the punishment shack. * nice villain costume by the way. Best costume I ever seen. "you still remember that?" Some interactions I came up, enjoy!

- One time when you got grumpy with crossbones because you planned more to show but got captured by him too early. In attempt to get you stop being all pouty, crossbones held you bridal style carry while you were tied up, but that didn't work instead you gave him something even much worse. The silent treatment, But that didn't last for long, he gave a smooch on your cheek to stop you being all grumpy with him. *aw don't turn into the grumpy side [name]. Extras - i named them devil side because y'know in undertale/deltarune we are the angel (that is what I believe). so I called them the opposite like "ahahaha i am devil side" but inside they are an angel in heart. - also i thought of devil side (you) to be like a character that belongs in this world. I think it was clever, cuz its swap over you the player is now devil side and you belong in this world well a version of you that is...

i have no actual plans for a part two, but none of my works are ever like fully finished in that most of them have extemporaneous connected plotlines already existing in my brain. and also bc i get so very attached to every version of lando and/or oscar that i write, and i never want to leave them behind.

that's the official answer, the unofficial answer is i love a/b/o and i love love sub lando and i probably definitely could write more of this relationship down the line. so if people like it enough (i live for praise, after all), it's probable i'll come back to these guys. i've got some ideas for them.

I think it would actually make a lot of sense that rook could/would get captured during blood of arlathan. like...we spend so much time focusing on our companions and allies, fixing their problems. but what about rooks traumas..either somethng from their past or just what they have been through so far in the game. (honestly rook is the strongest ever dealing with EVERYONES SHIT)

so under elgar'nans mindcontrol thingy yeah? rook is not ready for the SHEER FORCE of that. the temptation. it could be sooo easy to just lean into that. am i making sense?

I definitely agree!!! I think something Veilguard does do a really good job of is building up Elgar’nan as a really scary, formidable villain. When you start Blood of Arlathan and find out it’s him instead of Ghilan’nain it’s like “uh oh” and then he starts speaking honeyed words in your head and it’s like “UH OH!”

I think Rook struggling with the mind control is set up well- they don’t break free of it on their own- and when they meet eyes with Elgar’nan as they’re escaping? I would have loved more of a dialogue between them, or even just one more scene where the mind-control is a real Issue for Rook.

And you’re so right , I would have loved to see the companions rescuing Rook Origins-prison-break-style. I know they kind of do for the fade prison, but the game spends zero time on it 🥲 let my companions hug me, game
