I just found out that the Dynamax Phenomenon was discovered relatively recently! From what I've seen, Professor Magnolia's studies came out two decades ago or something like that. How is it possible that no one has thought to investigate why Pokémon become giants in Galar before Magnolia? And how could they incorporate the Dynamax Phenomenon in such a short time to stadium battles in this way as it is now?
it's not really that it was discovered recently, just that ways to harness the energy and successfully direct it into a pokemon are fairly recent. the same is true of the terastal phenomenon; although it had been witnessed for many years, it was only a little over a decade ago that the late professors sada and turo found a way to voluntarily terastallize a pokemon. given that dynamaxing relies on energy from eternatus, it makes sense that figuring out how to use that energy took a while.
a large reason behind why it was integrated so quickly into the galar league is partly because many cities were thankfully already built around power spots, but ex-chairman rose also had a large part in integrating the ability to dynamax into the league. as the president of macro cosmos, he was already familiar with the use of galar particles and power spots on a large scale. i believe his secretary oleana actually researched dynamaxing before she went to work for him? professor magnolia indeed wrote some of the seminal texts for the understanding of how the dynamax phenomenon works, and rose was able to take some of that knowledge to expedite the process.

Honestly, I think it's hilarious that the Detective Pikachu movie managed to slip in a blatant reference to Dynamaxing with that entire Torterra garden scene and absolutely NOBODY noticed because the movie came out before Sword and Shield did.
First time I watched the movie, I was like "Oh, I wonder what kind of fucked up unethical experiments that lab did on those poor Torterra to make them grow so big. :(" but when I rewatched it during quarantine after I played Sword, it dawned on me that they must have pumped the Torterra full of Dynamax particles.
Like, this movie and SwSh were probably in development around the same time so I bet some writer on the Detective Pikachu team was just sitting there like "Wouldn't it be funny if we had this entire scene with a game mechanic nobody knows about yet, so when people rewatch the movie later, they'll be like "OH YOU MOTHER FUCK-"
