Wait. Fuck. Isolde had Eamon send Alistair away bc she was afraid of the rumours about him being his bastard... but she was also cheating on Eamon with his brother... I need to lie down.

Something I did not pick up on before is that World of Thedas implies Alistair was sent to the monastery during Isolde's pregnancy--before Connor was born. Which means we actually can pretty closely pin down Connor's age, as he was born soon after Alistair was sent away--so in either 9:20 Dragon or early 9:21.

Modern!Dragon Age AU where Alistair is raised jointly by Maric, Fiona, and Duncan. Loghain and Teagan have a low-key rivalry about being Alistair's favourite uncle. Celia is best aunt. Cailan is on a mission to be the Best Big Brother In The Universe. Anora is Alistair's favourite (Anora is forever smug). Eamon is not allowed within a hundred feet of Alistair. Nothing bad happens. favourite thing about the way the two sides tell the Ostagar story is that they’re both wrong and/or lying and the truth is somewhere in the middle, like any good two-sided conflict. loghain lies about the grey wardens turning on Cailan and killing him, but arguably he did retreat to save his troops from dying in a lost battle. the guerrins are right that this is all a big power grab by loghain who abandoned cailan to his fate but they also don’t want to see how misguided and foolish cailan was being and how many lives were lost as a direct result of his poor leadership, or how many lives were saved by loghain

Alistar's Reward
Not Alistair positive. Don't @ me for executing your precious widdle idiot and sending his soul to the Void. My Amell is a magnificent bastard and is still grieving Jowan's death.
The Landsmeet ended with a decisive victory for Anora as she kept her throne and her father faces Conscription at Riordan's hands. Now comes Alistair's execution.
Eamon protests. Vehemently.

#and i think she could bless him though eamon would lose it more than if he found out the boy was teagan’s#teagan will marry any random girl from redcliffe in the epilogue slides won’t he. these guerrins#it’s kind of a wonder he isn’t married already it’s like no-one is putting in the effort#why haven’t they gotten him a woman in ansburg. is moving to ferelden that bad

this is a stupid me personal thing. but Fereldan names have always driven me a little bit insane because they are a hodgepodge of different Britonnic languages with no rhyme or reason. the devs will take one name, and use all versions of it: Scottish Gaelic, Welsh, Irish, Cornish, and then some Germanic variants to boot.
which etymologically is very frustrating and sloppy world building to me. incredibly niche pet peeve, i know. but languages are my specialty and such careless use does invite questions
e.g. Mhairi, Moira, Maura, Miriam are all different language representations of the same name. how did that come about? or Wynne and Fiona being a Welsh and Irish representation of the same root, and they are in a room having a conversation, and I'm here wondering when did the language split?
one could ostensibly make a case that before Calenhad united Ferelden, all the Alamarri tribes had one single root language family but it devolved in these related but different languages
but. regardless. as I was looking up all the names and trying to map out where they fall in the actual Earth languages
i made a discovery i should have really made a long time ago
which is: i know from general history examples -- and also other fiction (*cough* Dishonored *cough*) that Teague is an Irish masculine name
based on that knowledge, I never questioned Teagan
but Teagan (also spelled as Tegan) = while most certainly related to the name above = actually follows the same logic as such names as Megan / Meagan. or Regan / Reagan. current unfortunate association with a president who ruined everything notwithstanding, Regan is King Lear's daughter. and Regan is the child protagonist of The Exorcist, a girl tormented by the demon. these are feminine names. TEAGAN is a traditionally feminine name
another OBVIOUS example being of course the ever famous sister-duo Tegan and Sara. but. based on the queerness. I kind of assumed the opposite? that it was a butch thing and she wanted to use a masc name? or that the name is just unisex and the popularity with one gender or the other changed with time, like it did for Addison, or Cameron, or Ashley. or that the spelling made a difference
but no. straight-up. historically it's a woman's name
and listen. i'm all for unexpected unisex names. Artemis Fowl? Star Trek: Discovery's Michael and Pushing Daisies' Chuck? hellyeah. my own name is traditionally masc and I'm fem-presenting
but also i'm just saying: trans!Teagan
(they did blithely retcon and canonize that Eamon and Teagan had polyamorous parents. that their father had a wife and a male lover (Connor) whom Rowan, Eamon and Teagan also considered a father. and Eamon named his son after the man. so honestly this isn't the most wild headcanon I could put forth about them)
#the biggest mystery is how come Eamon is such a conservative killjoy misogynistic drip#because literally everyone else in his family sounds dope as fuck#dragon age origins#teagan guerrin#bann teagan#tag: personal#ch: teagan guerrin#tag: meta#? idk i'll tag it for myself as meta even though it's not :3

for what it's worth, Isolde generally exits stage right no matter what except for her DA2 cameo if she lives.
It's actually hinted at in DA2 (and all but confirmed by at least two of the developers) that Isolde eventually leaves Eamon for Teagan - hence her indignance at Teagan speaking with e female Hawke in DA2).
At least one of those devs has even suggested that Connor is actually Teagan's.
i will say tho, dao really hates Isolde. like. i dont remember what happens if both her and connor live, but i know that if connor dies, the epilogue slides say eamon got her pregnant again and then she died during child birth 🙃
like i get it, she was bad to alistair as a kid but like jesus christ man. so many men in this game do worst and have a possibility of walking away scot free, why does she get epilogue slide death

Anyway here's the Guerrin timeline as best I can piece it together, if it's useful to anyone!
Updated 7/14/23 with corrections & additions.
~8:84 Blessed - Eamon is born. (The Calling - He's 15 at the time of the Battle of West Hill, which occurred in 8:99 Blessed.)
8:99 Blessed - The Battle of West Hill. Arl Rendorn Guerrin, Eamon's father, is killed in action. Maric Theirin is presumed dead but reappears in Gwaren, which is then taken by the rebels. The Battle of River Dane deals a decisive defeat to the Orlesian forces, though the conflict is not completely over. It will take several more years to completely drive out the occupying lords. However, Emperor Florian officially withdraws support for King Meghren.
9:02 Dragon - Eamon, 18, returns to Redcliffe to claim his place as arl, but find it still under Orlesian control, and works with the rebel forces to reclaim it. Isolde, the daughter of one of the Orlesian governors, is sympathetic to the rebels and becomes infatuated with Eamon, who does not return her feelings; nevertheless, she feeds information to the rebels, and chooses to stay in Ferelden after her family is driven out. Isolde is four years younger than Eamon, making her 14 at the time. (WoT v.2 p. 102, 106)
9:02 Dragon - Maric kills the usurper King Meghren in a dual, officially ending the occupation and winning Ferelden's freedom. (There is a noted discrepancy in the dates between the epilogue of The Stolen Throne, and World of Thedas vol. 1, the latter of which puts the duel at 9:00 Dragon. Given other events, the later date seems more plausible.)
~9:08 Dragon - Six years after their initial meeting, Eamon (24) meets Isolde (20) again in Denerim. They quickly become involved and are married. (WoT v.2 p. 103)
9:10 - Alistair is born to Fiona and King Maric. His parents give him up to be raised at Redcliffe Castle, inventing a story about his mother being a human serving girl. (The Calling.)
~9:20 Dragon - Isolde becomes pregnant with Connor after difficulty conceiving. This causes rumors about Alistair (10) being Eamon's bastard to resurface, and Eamon sends him away to a monastery to spare his wife's feelings. Connor is born soon after.
~9:29 Dragon - Short of taking his vows as a templar, Alistair (19) is conscripted into the Grey Wardens. (WoT v.2 p.79)
~9:30 Dragon - Connor Guerrin (10) shows signs of magic. Isolde hires an apostate, Jowan, to tutor Connor in secret. Eamon (46) is poisoned by Jowan and falls ill. (Origins.)
~9:31 Dragon - Following the Blight, Eamon decides to stay in Denerim, serving as an advisor to the throne, eventually declaring his brother Teagan the new Arl of Redcliffe. (Origins, WoT v.2 p.104)
?:?? Dragon - (If Connor is dead) Rowan Guerrin is born to Isolde and Eamon. After a difficult birthing, Isolde dies. (Potential Origins Epilogue slide.)
?:?? Dragon - Rowan Guerrin shows signs of magic and is sent to the Circle, though her father continues to visit her. (Potential Origins Epilogue slide.)

Proposal for a Dragon Age Origins Adaptation Part 11.
We're approaching the endgame now, loves. Probably only one more part after this one, and it'll be done. We'll be covering the aftermath of Howe's death and Fort Drakon, dealing with the slave traders in the Alienage, a final confrontation with Cauthrien, and finally, the Landmeet proper/its aftermath.
Forging an alliance: Warden and Alistair make it back to Eamon's estate and find themselves confronted by Bann Sighard and Bann Alfstanna, who Eamon has summoned. Oswyn, Irmninric and Rexel are revealed, much to the joy of Sighard and Alfstanna with the latter offering to take in Rexel in hopes of helping him. When they ask why they went to all this trouble, Anora reveals herself and openly condemns both Howe and her father. All this helps bring Sighard and Alfstanna on side with them both promising to bring their own allies on side. Anora then goes on to give her condolences/congratulations to Elissa for avenging her family before she proposes that they back her claim to the throne while suggesting that Warden inbestigate the Alienage. When they have the room, the group, joined by Riordan, consider their options. Warden is the first to propose, specifically to him, that Alistair marry Anora. Alistair isn't in love with the idea, but is willing to give it a go if it means winning before taking himself off to get a drink (or several). Eamon can see the merits, but points out that Anora's marriage to Cailan produced no children, citing rumours of her being sterile. Elissa claps back that it's just as likely that Cailan was sterile, to which Eamon concedes. With this in mind, Warden decides to bring the proposal to Anora. Anora is herself hesitant, understandably, but can also recognise the broader political implications, so she agrees. She also does her best to convince Warden to spare Loghain, but Warden is evasive on the issue. With Anora on side, Warden heads to the Alienage with Sten, Zevran, Leliana, Kallian and Wynne. Meanwhile, Alistair and Anora attempt a conversation. While it's initially awkward, they manage to find some common ground with them both talking about their relationship with Cailan and Anora is surprised by Alistair's willingness to learn the art of ruling.
The Alienage: The party enter the Alienage and Kallian heads straight to her family home where she reunites with Soris and Valora who have a baby now. Soris tells Kallian about the aftermath of Howe's purge, the arrival of the plague and the Tevinter healers. Wynne is quick to point out how unusual it is for foreign mages to be running a healing station, especially Tevinters doing it for elves. Kallian asks after Cyrion who says that both he and Valendrian are missing. He tells them to look for Shianni. She and Kallian have a tearful reunion outside of the mages' base. She tells them of other disappearances besides their family, prompting Warden to try and gain entry. The healers point out that he has the Blight, but when Warden says it's different, they realise who he is and attack. With the mages and their guards dead, the group, now accompanied by an armed Shianni (it's implied she's learned to defend herself since the incident with Vaughn), enter the hospice, freeing those captives who confirm that Cyrion and Valendrian among others were taken elsewhere. The documents on site confirm that the Tevinters are slavers. The group make their way to the warehouse where the captives are kept being kept with Kallian losing two daggers in her fight with that one elf serving the Tevinters whose name escapes me (she falls out a window with Kallian's dagger in her). The group finally reach Caladrius who tries to bribe them with information on Loghain, but Kallian says they'll happily take it off his corpse. A fight ensues with Wynne using magic to help Kallian strike the killing blow. Kallian reunites with Cyrion and Valendrian, and after taking the documents proving Loghain's complicity, they return to the Alienage where the people are happy to have their relatives and hahren back, but are panicky about facing the darkspawn should they come. Kallian and Shianni rally them, telling them to take the Tevinters weapons and armour from them with Warden further saying that Alistair and Anora will support the fortification of the Alienage/organisation of an elven militia. Zevran wryly remarks that this will have consequences beyond the Blight, but isn't against. Cyrion and Valendrian say how proud they are of Kallian with her receiving Fang and Gift of the Grey from them. With that, they return to the estate. Eamon is appalled by slavery being found in Ferelden, but says that this will likely be the nail in the coffin for the regency. With that, both Team Warden, CAATS Gang and Eamon's retinue head to the Landsmeet.
Confronting Cauthrien: Warden and Alistair are confronted by Cauthrien who refuses to give them entry to the meeting. However, it's clear that she no longer has the same faith she once did in Loghain with Warden convincing her to serve her king/queen and country over loyalty to a man who no longer values her. She does so, while still begging for Loghain's life.
The Landsmeet/showdown with Loghain: The party enter with Loghain playing on his paranoia towards Orlais while Warden counters that the Blight is the only threat that matters. This brings Arl Wulf on side and Warden goes for the jugular, citing Loghain's involvement with the Tevinters, Howe's actions and the Circle coup before finally revealing Cailan's correspondence with Selene, citing it as the reason Loghain betrayed Cailan. Loghain is adamant that he would have done anything in his power to save Cailan, but that the Wardens made it impossible to do so. Warden says he might have believe him if they didn't know the truth. Anora then reveals herself and takes the side of the Wardens Loghain goes into his patriotic speech which sees cheers from his supporters, prompting Warden to counter with their own speech: he reveals his half Dalish origins, as well as his mother's service in the war with Orlais, with Loghain conceding that he knew them both, and says that for a long time, he hated the Wardens for taking his father from him, but after meeting Duncan and seeing the darkspawn threat for what it was, it made him realise that when true evil threatens, nothing else matters. He then recites the Joining Words, joined by Alistair and his other companions (cheesy? Sure. Do I care? No). The voting starts. Barring that one baldy teyrn who always supports Loghain, the Landsmeet is unanimously in favour of the Warden with Elissa speaking for Highever in Fergus' absence and even Howe's eldest son, Thomas, speaking for Amaranthine and Denerim. Loghain does his usual "traitors!" bit before Warden suggests they dual. The two fight with them being pretty much evenly matched before Warden finally gets the upper hand, cutting Loghain's cheek and him submitting, saying that he is truly a warrior worth respecting, even going so far as to say he does his family proud. Warden thanks him, but reminds him that he has to die. This prompts Riordan to step in and propose the Joining, citing their low numbers and the other unspoken reason. Alistair is entirely against it while Anora tries to intercede on her father's behalf, only for Loghain to gently silence her. Warden also cites that they have potential volunteers for the Joining in their ranks, then, with the Landsmeet's permission, sentences Loghain to death at sunrise. Eamon proclaims Alistair and Anora as the new monarchs with Warden taking Loghain's place as high commander. Alistair, far more confident in this adaptation, addresses the Landsmeet, saying that he will do all he can to live up to Maric's legacy with Anora affirming her support.
Loghain's fate: Warden visits Loghain in his cell. Loghaib is initially sarcastic towards Warden before requesting that his armour be melted down and given to Anora. Warden agrees then asks why he did all that he did. Loghain cites what happened to his mother during the Orlesian occupation, giving the impression that he suffers from PTSD (understandably) and that he should have just gone back to farming after the war rather than joining Maric's government. Loghain then begs Warden to defend Ferelden, Anora and the Theirin bloodline where he failed. Warden agrees, and at dawn, a hooded Loghain is executed by beheading with Anora and Cauthrien, now captain of her personal guard, watching from a window.
The Wardens' Denerim vault/revelations about Alistair's mother: Warden and Riordan enter the Wardens' compound near the palace to anything vital, including the archdemon blood needed for the Joining. While in there, Warden recovers Duncan's old shield and a letter from an unknown Grey Warden (Fiona) to Alistair, addressing him as her son. Riordan later reveals what happened in the events of The Calling, though he refrains from saying Fiona's name, saying only that she was an elf. Warden passes both items onto Alistair who, tearfully, is beyond thankful, asking him to stand by him to which Warden affirms. The two are interrupted by a guard who says that Goldanna has come calling, along with her five children, saying she's the king's sister. Alistair, in a sassy manner, gives her a pouch of gold, then says that it's all she'll have from him, remarking as he walks away that thankfully, they aren't related.
At a war meeting that includes Anora, Valendrian, Cauthrien, the newly prompted Captain Kylon, Isabela and others, Warden plans out the defence of Denerim. Despite some objections, he confirms the mobilising and fortification of the Alienage under Shianni's eyes, much to Valendrian's amusement, while Kylon confirms that he's managed to secure the loyalty of several mercenary companies (familiar names such as the Blackstone Irregulars, Crimson Oars and White Falcons among others) and numerous gangs to fight in return for promise of pay/promotion while Isabela has curried favours with other corsairs to help get civilians away from the city in the event of an attack. Warden gives command of Fort Drakon to a previous unknown, Ser Galban, who keeps his helmet on at all times due to disfiguring wounds. The fact that he's leading soldiers formally loyal to Loghain isn't even brought up. Anora announces that she'll be joining the Warden's procession down to Redcliffe alongside Cauthrien, wishing them all the best before they depart for Redcliffe.
Only one more to go after this. Expect a fair deal more chonk in the next installment, Maker help us all, but hopefully, it'll be a good one. See y'all soon.

Fandom: Dragon Age (pre-Origins) Characters/pairings: Maric x OC Chapter: 6/8 Rating: T Chapter CW: pregnancy Fic summary:
Hoping to cool off his charged relationship with Queen Rowan, Maric Theirin has taken his son Cailan to Redcliffe under the guise of a royal progress to acquaint the prince with his future kingdom. When word comes from Denerim that the queen has fallen ill and that tensions are running high thanks to an impending Orlesian embassy, the pleasant trip loses its charm, and bad quickly turns to worse. The only comfort in this sea of madness comes in the form of Gwawr, a Chasind healer working in the castle kitchens. Well aware of his duties and determined not to take advantage, there is nevertheless something beguiling about her, and as their time together wears on, Maric finds himself facing a choice that could have dire consequences for himself, his family, and the kingdom he has struggled for so long to build. Or, how Maric met and fell in love with Alistair’s mother.
14th Guardian
My lord Arl Eamon,
Allow me to overlook the usual formalities. I regret not having a chance to speak with you before I left Denerim, but the importance of my words here cannot be understated. Perhaps it has already come to your attention that His Majesty, King Maric, has found regard in one of your servants: the herbalist who attended Prince Cailan in his illness during the summer. Perhaps what you do not know is the extent to which she has taken this fondness and enjoined the king to serve herself. I would go so far as to say she has acted in a manner not unheard of in these Chasind witches, and charmed him out of good sense.
It is not my desire to gossip about His Majesty’s affairs, but perhaps my lord has already seen the signs of warning in their conduct. This ill-advised infatuation has the potential to cause great damage to Ferelden, and to the state of Queen Rowan’s delicate health. It is my fear that, if she should learn of the affair, it will cause her great suffering not only in the anguish caused by knowledge of it, but also in the secondary effect of hastening the progress of her illness. I write to implore your aid in this matter, for your sister’s sake and for the good of the Ferelden she worked so hard to see freed. His Majesty must see sense before this woman turns his head completely to her whims.
I await your response and stand ready to heed my lord’s advice.
Faithfully,
Loghain Mac Tir, Teyrn of Gwaren

reading the stolen throne and trying to like maric is tough when you know in like 10 years he’s going to father a bastard and promptly ignore existence of said bastard, allowing him to be bullied and forced into servitude and used as a political pawn bc eamon and isolde are fucking awful. like maybe there’s more context I’m missing and will learn from reading the books but I’m finding it difficult to get past that so far! you dishonoured your wife already bro that ship has sailed! can we maybe make sure the child isn’t so traumatised it will later have a circle mage and a literal child slave saying uhhhh you good buddy?? anything you wanna talk about?
