Welcome to a new Erdas 𖥔

Hello and welcome to my blog! You can call me Bay. I'm a 20-year-old black, sapphic writer living on the West Coast of Canada.

You probably know me for my Spirit Animals project, A Revised History of Erdas (ARHoE), and that is what the majority of this blog is dedicated to. I also talk about the series in general, and share things like other people's art, photography and personal stuff from time to time.

Things you might be wondering

Why are you making this project? I have wanted to continue writing for Spirit Animals ever since The Dragon's Eye was released and the series was concluded. 14 years old at the time, I was unwilling to part with the world and the characters that had been a huge part of my life for the past four years. Additionally, I wasn't entirely satisfied with where they left things. In fact, I wrote to Scholastic to tell them so, and to request that they continue. I never heard back, of course, but that didn't stop me from taking matters into my own hands and beginning to work on the idea for a fourth arc that had taken shape in my mind. That original idea is now abandoned, but many years later, it inspired me to reimagine what a continuation of my beloved childhood book series could look like. I created the concept for Path of the Heroes, and one thing led to another until I had plans to rework the whole universe of Spirit Animals. This all started because I never wanted it to end, and because I was unhappy with where and how it ended. A Revised History of Erdas is my attempt to make it feel more complete, to reconcile with my brokenhearted child self. Essentially, this is a passion project that was many years in the making, and a love letter to the books that shaped my childhood.

When are you going to release [x part of ARHoE]? At this point in time, I cannot predict when I will finish writing any part of ARHoE. This will likely change as work on the project progresses. Once completed, you can expect instalments to be released after about a month. I lead a busy life as a young adult and write when I can find the time (and motivation). This means that progress will be slow. However, rest assured this project will be completed before I die.

How long have you been here? I first started reading Spirit Animals in 2014, at around the same time Fire and Ice came out. I was ten at the time!

Favourite character? My favourite character is Abeke, followed by Shane, Irtike, Drina and Conor. I have identified strongly with Abeke since I was very young; she will always be close to my heart.

What other fandoms are you in? Aside from Spirit Animals, some of my favourite books and shows are Animorphs, Lord of the Rings, ASoIaF and ATLA. I also dabble in Warriors, but more for the art and the universe itself than the books these days.

Can I send you an ask about– Yes. Whatever it is, I want to hear it! I love questions about ARHoE, but keep in mind that there are some things I can't reveal before certain books are released. Anonymous asks are always on for those of you who are shy. Send me as many as you want; I will never grow tired of them.

If you were on Erdas, what animal would you summon? It's a hard question for me because I love so many different animals, but I think my spirit animal would be a sea wolf.

A bit about me

Outside of social media, I'm an exhausted full-time worker trying to get by in one of the most expensive and beautiful cities in the world. I have a lovely girlfriend whom I have been dating since 18.10.23. I'm an aunt to her three Goldendoodles and adoptive mom to the cats I volunteer with at my local animal shelter. In my free time, you can find me writing, taking long walks in nature and jamming out to music, usually all at once. meetin' deacon for tha first time was certainly a slap in tha face... but it was a pleasant one. tha man knocked tha damn wind outta me, ah was just so caught off-guard by him.

Do any of your characters have voiceclaims? I love coming up with voice claims for my characters so I was wondering if you do the same thing? :o

This is such a cool question! NGL I'm not very good at coming up with voices for my characters since most of them just like, sound like my voice, or whatever vague voice I hear in my head when I read xD Either that or they're an animal that just does not talk. I don't imagine characters like Honeydew or Puff would talk, maybe just their respective animal noises?

HOWEVER a few of them I do have specific voices for! For example, my bird character Featherby talks like Billy Bob from the RockAfire Explosion! I think his voice is cute and soothing. I also imagine that Featherby is softspoken, but if he doesn't warm up his voice to sing he sounds like Looney Bird from RAE, whose voice is more squawky and obnoxious xDD The creator of Showbiz/voice of these two characters is a massive a-hole, so in a way I'm giving those voices a new association xD

Another oc of mine with a distinct voice is Twinkie's dad, Funny Fluff! He is heavily inspired by Steve Martin, which I think shows in his design (which my bestie @seanimal created and they did a PERFECT job). I really loved Steve Martin specifically in the movie Parenthood, which is what sparked the idea between PJ and I to make this guy. One of my all-time fave ocs!

More often than thinking of voiceclaims, I LOVE thinking of their theme songs. I feel like I create my characters more off of like, vibes than I do human-like traits. Funny Fluff's theme would be Rainbow Connection from The Muppets! My sona Rockie's theme is Easygoin' Day from Follow That Bird (the big bird movie, haha.) I guess if Rockie had a voice, it might sound like the singing girl from that song!

IDK maybe it's a Spectrumy trait of mine, but even though I consider myself a creative person, the way in which I create & view my characters feels somewhat limiting. I put most thought into my fursonas and self insert characters because I feel more comfortable with myself and my interests, creating a whole new Being with a personality and traits outside my own is weirdly... Scary? I hope to get over this someday, because I think having a huge diverse cast of characters makes for really fantastic stories!

I like dy bcs of his voice. my friend told me that dy is not attractive, he is stiff/too strict, not an easygoin personality, often thinking too much, and overact many times, its annoys her haha. My friend thinks he is weird (ik every neos are weird hh). my friend & i doesn't believe the innocent image/kindness people shows infront of camera, (we just think its fake/there is sumthin behind it, its ent industry, etc), so we aren't attracted to his fan service or sweet words. I think when we, fans, choose with more thought, we navigate towards those who compliment us, are "comfortable to be around". Be it character (chill, chaoitic, funny, etc) or some quality we admire (kind, diligent, creative, talented, etc). And then the halo effect influence our opinion about looks of the chosen bias and actions.

I don't think Taeyong is that attractive without make up. Not like Jeno. He has large eyes, but his face is a bit "shapeless". He is very feminine (or rather, he's youthful looking) by Western standarts. However, he is very popular in the West, and is considered super handsome. And that's because on the stage/on photos he is different, so this image transfers onto his whole being.

Neos' faces are also altered a lot. With make up or retouch, so their looks are altered as well.
