My Head cannon for the Clawthorne sisters: They're both talented even in their teens and both think the other is the genius teen prodigy. Hear me out:
Lilith is actually a prodigy in terms of academic level. She learned to do spells in the first few tries. We can see this talent when Luz teaches them glyphs. She impressed Luz with multiple ice sculptures while Eda could only make small ice balls. She thinks Eda is the genius teen prodigy because Eda has more raw power than her in magic as seen in their fight. Thus, Lilith focused on being "sharp and crafty" as she puts it.
Eda is the prodigy in the practical sense. We saw her raw power during her fight against Lilith. We saw her survive Terra's challenge when she was young. She taught herself wild magic too. Now here's the fun part: Deep down, She thinks that Lilith is the genius teen prodigy because she saw Lilith perform spells after learning once or twice which motivates Eda to learn more spells especially wild magic (Let's be honest: I'm sure the emperor's coven sigil still seals some form of magic to avoid them getting too powerful for Belos) until Eda believes that she's "better than Lilith". These needs of trying to be better than Lilith resurfaced again on the day Luz teaches them glyphs.
Sorry for the long head cannon. Have fun with this information
This is interesting. I've always thought that they're sort of "opposites" in a way. Like you said too, Eda has raw power, but lacks in the techical area. Meanwhile Lilith, while she isn't as strong as Eda, she has the technical skills. Also, Lilith has the EC military training so it makes sense for her to be like that. It's basically something like an experienced street fighter against a military trained fighter. I really like the idea that both of them think the other is a prodigy, when in reality it's both lmao

the spiritual love triangle of eclipse lake is just too good. the way amity tells hunter: "there are people out there who won't make you feel worthless. you just have to let yourself meet them", and GOD, that's luz, right? that's what luz does for hunter in the show... because she also happens to be that person for amity too. amity doesn't have any idea that this person she's talking about is her girlfriend, that luz will be the first person to ever make hunter feel valued as he is. and i think that's sooooo fucking delicious yum yum

GRAH. Sorry these are some heavy thoughts and doodles but I feel like tumblr is an okay place to put them
I wanna do something with Raine and Hunter confiding in each other about the shared horrors (getting possessed by belos and being a victim of csa by someone important in the EC) but I’m not sure how I’d write that dialogue or go about it . So I started brainstorming as I do to make sure I have a grasp on hunters side of things before I work on raine’s experience and feelings and then put two and two together and this is where these came from ? Under the cut, cw for implied csa
tfw you’re so starved of affectionate touch you’ll take what you can get and convince yourself you like it and that it’s normal. Meanwhile your abuser doesn’t even see you as a person
Tumblr media
Idk I think the Raine/Hunter dynamic potential is underutilized and I have ideas for them that I haven’t put out there. Hunter is coparented by Eda and Raine as much as he is Darius and Camila. Raine teaches him some bard magic and they get along well because they’re such dorks and sweethearts and they have that shared experience of being in the castle. I feel like there would be conversations and bonds made there.
Smth smth trusting adults and forgiving yourself and telling someone younger what you wish you heard a while ago . Fuck Terra Snapdragon btw

I had a long argument with someone on whether or not stomping Belos before he dies was better than letting him die pathetically, and I asked myself if that is what fans really believe in... or if they would hail any Belos' death as the perfect one if Dana choose a different one?
They also justify the stomping as being part of horror-comedy genre and that Belos should not have any dignity what so ever because apparently letting him die in despair with no stomping is running the risk of making the audience feel "sorry" for him.
Honestly, these justifications make The Owl House feel more shallow. Like, why shouldn't the audience be allowed to feel sorry for Belos? What is the danger? That people would agree with Belos' views?
Or are we supposed to develop a black and white view of the world akin to a conservative view but inverted? And then hide behind the horror comedy genre to justify less drama? I hate to say it, but Nostalgia Critic is right about Belos being this strange outlier. The show seems to be afraid of actually doing a complex, tragic and yet irredeemable villain.
It doesn't make any sense to argue that Belos' death fits because of toh's genre as a horror comedy because the scene was neither played for horror nor laughs. At best, you have the image of Philip slowly being dissolved by the rain and then Raine's smug "that was satisfying" line. The overall tone of the scene is one of contempt as Philip tries one last plea to Luz only to be snuffed out (and weirdly validated) by the heroes. Its intent is to be cathartic for both audience (though as you know doubt know, YMMV) and the characters.
Frankly, despite its marketing, I don't see toh as either a horror or a comedy because it spends more time on slice of life stuff and high school teen drama and romance. And even when it does go for the horror and comedy, both are rather tepid. You want a real example of a horror-comedy for kids, then go watch Courage the Cowardly Dog or Invader Zim.
The reason why I argue the heroes validated Belos is because in the moment of his death, he clings to the idea that as humans, "we're better than this!" It's a moment of pathetic delusion that is appropriately met with silence but then it's ruined with Eda and Co. barging in with "Well, we ain't!" only to then prove his point by mercilessly stomping an already dying man to death. There's a reason why kid shows usually end with either the villain being imprisoned or not outright being murdered by the heroes. Evil has to die by its own hubris, not get killed by the heroes after the Big Battle when they're no longer a threat. I made a post about the importance of defeating a major antagonist twice.
Belos' death also doesn't work with a "Kill your oppressors" theme because the show isn't about that. The show barely spends any time showing why the EC is bad for the Boiling Isles and Eda is the only named wild witch we see getting harassed by them and even then, it's mostly played for laughs given how inept the coven scouts are (seriously, they're able to quit without fear of repercussions).
I think a reason fans are split on Belos' death is because of differing expectations; the fans who paid attention to Belos and the implication of his backstory and waited for every lie to come crashing down on him since that's what the show seemed to be building up to only to be unceremoniously ignored in the end were no doubt disappointed. Then you have the other fans who hated the character to the point that any gruesome death will do, regardless whether it made narrative or thematic sense or not.
Ultimately, I think the biggest reason his death doesn't work is because Belos fails as a villain.
Belos' status as a colonial puritan only works on a meta-level; it serves a cathartic release for marginialized people to see a representative of real world oppression beaten by queer characters as it fulfills the fantasy of finally overthrowing an oppressive system. The fatal flaw though is that none of this works on a narrative level because the coven system is either treated as a joke or simply a career path one must choose and we never see the disenfranchisement of wild witches. People largely get off scot-free opposing Belos, which undermines his credibility as both a dictator and a villain because no one cares about him until the plot needs them to. Luz doesn't even care about proving he's evil until Hollow Mind, which is halfway through season 2.
Belos as a villain only works if you project your own feelings and desires in wanting to see the Evil Christian/Evil Parent destroyed. While this is extremely satisfying emotionally, it does not make a sound story.
All the reasons why people like his death ("it's great the evil colonizer died so pathetically!" "omg, the white christian colonizer was killed by two queer people and their adopted son!" etc) are all meta reasons. And to be clear, it's totally fine if you thought his death was satisfying. But for many people, it did not work for a variety of reasons, including narrative ones. And that differing opinion should be respected instead of arguing some nonsense like "we have to make our villain as stupid/evil as possible or run the risk of people liking/sympathizing with him."
Belos should have died in a manner that connected back to his original sin: the murder of his brother. All of his lies and delusions and fear of being wrong should have played a part in the finale. He should have not died thinking he was right. He should have died realizing that all he did was for nothing. And that he is to blame. And that there is no one waiting for him back home.

⚠️‼️TW: Mentions ăɓų§ɛ‼️⚠️
So I read MorningMark's new comic on Steve explaining his time in the Emperor's Coven to Luz and I saw the comments.
I saw one comment saying that since he was in the Emperor's Coven like Hunter, everyone could have been ăɓų§ɛð at some point in their time there. Someone replied, stating that Hunter was the only one who was ever ăɓų§ɛð in the coven.
I already commented this but it's an interesting plot point on how basic life goes in the EC:
Hunter clearly wasn't the only one abused. Literally in Labrynth Runners, Adrian verbally abuses the Coven guards and makes them do a "whole theater production" if you will, and he nitpicks and takes it out on them. Hell, even Serverine quits because of it.
There are several more examples, but I'll give 3 more: in Fallies At The Coven Day Parade (and Hunting Palisman and Eclipse Lake) Kiki literally verbally abuses them, threatening the Coven Scouts/Gaurd Captian's jobs if they
Do something wrong/not the right way/right away, literally claiming "I'll have your head/ calls them hangnails"
The TOH Wiki on the Labrynth Runners page says "In addition, Severine, a Coven Scout, is so fed up with the pressure and abuse within the Emperor's Coven that she quits her job in a rage, making the whole school cheer."
On the TOH Wiki on Steves wiki page talking about some of his sides of events in Any Sport In A Storm, "Steve says he doesn't envy them, recalling the harsh training new recruits have to go through, as well as Belos taking their palismen. He then notes that he's starting to regret joining the coven himself. "
Not to mention the whole abuse thing with Terra and Kiki and Terra and Raine. Also with how the other coven heads acted at the Day Of Unity, willing to hurt and most likely even ķįłł their own fellow Coven heads (Darius and Eber and even Eda even though she was ilusioned/pretending to be Raine) because they were rebelling against Belos. While we couldn't get the chance to see more of the other Coven heads' characters and only in brief appearances, just by that scene alone we can deffently tell they are on Belos' side and would literally do anything, including ăɓų§ɛ based on his influence to do what's "best" for the Coven, Belos, Titan, and the Isles.
But ye these are my thoughts on the topic, LMK if any1 has anything else to add!

OH BOY I'M IN WARRIORS TERRITORY so uuuh. hexsquad's warrior names... Luz's would obviously have to be Light something. I can't think what tho. Lightbeam? Lightstep? Willow maybe Willowflower? Willowleaf? Amity's... Hhmm... Can I like, name my kit Amitykit? Amity is basically friendship, right? It's a word... Idk. I'm open to ideas. I have no idea what name Gus would have tho, like, at all. And Hunter could be... Goldenhunter? Sounds siiick, and later on he could change the Golden part to something else... GAAAAAAH I love warrior cats so much, I have thousands of ideas
YAYYY MORE AUTISM CROSSOVER!!!! i do have warrior designs in the works for some toh characters too— hexsquad and some of the adults! here’s my interpretation of their names:
Luz— Lightshine!! no real thoughts on this one, it was just an instant “oh she’d be Lightshine” for me. i just knew that was her name. Lightheart would be a close second tho
Amity— Moonglow! i think her mom would give her the moon prefix as a kind of “look how special my child is” thing like thriftear and bayshine are doing with moonpaw in the books, adding to the pressure she felt to be perfect. might sound like a cop out because of the elders’ quest, but “moon” only being used rarely/in special instances is not an uncommon fanon concept lmao. plus amity’s moon motif yknow. i hesitated to make her suffix anything light related (the “amity became a 2 dimensional love interest whose only personality was luz’s gf” interpretation boils my blood), but i really do think -glow suits her disposition s3 onward. she’s never been happier, her name should reflect that <3
Willow— leaning towards Willowthorn! her innocent, sweet-sounding prefix did not keep her from a tough girl suffix. i just like her name containing both sides of her, and thorn > claw/fang/etc bc Plant
Gus— i’m kind of stuck with him. Smoke___ maybe, bc the whole “smoke and mirrors” saying for illusions? i’m stretching i know. idk how i feel about deducing his whole personality to illusions but i can’t think of anything else to suit him. the obvious Gust___ prefix (since it sounds like Gus) doesn’t feel like it suits him, and Chameleon___ bc of emmiline is cute but it’s just such a mouthful
GG era Hunter— Golden___ obviously. maybe Goldenheart bc illusion of good/trust, or Goldenclaw as a display of power/strength. Goldenhunter makes sense but is just a little clunky for my taste
post-GG Hunter— Cardinalflight <3 not sure if Flapjack could work into his story but cardinals would still be significant somehow
Vee— Snake___? Serpent___? Pumpkin___? I’m stuck with her too bc her reclaiming her name was important to her character and idk how to translate that into a warrior name
Eda— Owlclaw (bc clawthorne)
Emperor’s Coven Lilith— i would say Ravenclaw also bc clawthorne but harry potter ruined that forever so idk. and Raventalon or Raventhorn (clawThorne) don’t really feel right to me. possibly Ravenheart for the same reasons as Goldenheart?
post-EC Lilith— Ravenlily!! the idea of eda’s canon nickname for her being in her new name was too cute to pass up, but not sure how it’d be explained in-universe. Ravenflower’s another good option that i probably like better as a general name, but it feels less personal to lilith specifically
Raine— Rainwhisper lmao. easiest name ever. i remember when they were introduced thinking “warrior cat ass name”
Belos— ___star obviously (but no actual relationship with starclan, just like he lied about the titan. nine lives actually would make sense tho but i’m not sure how he’d get them without starclan and without magic)
i don’t have the exact details for how my toh warriors au would work, except that luz starts out as a kittypet. whole “proving herself as a witch” arc -> “proving herself as a clan cat” arc, etc etc etc. the story would start when the kids (excluding gg hunter, whose early ascension to golden guard = earning his warrior name early) are apprentices, and they’d get their full names later once they came into their own as characters, like how apprentice povs work in the books
i imagine the clan systems would have to work a bit differently to align with the coven systems, but i’m not sure how. maybe the boiling isles is made up of one big clan, so belos would still be their corrupt leader, and earning your warrior name = joining a coven? and the clan reclaims warrior names into something better post-belos so the kids still get them??? idk. and i have No idea how king, hooty, eda’s curse, the palismen, etc fit into any of this either
also not sure how eda would fall into the whole clan situation since her entire thing is being an outsider, but gave her a warrior name anyway. maybe if prev paragraph was implemented she would just stay as owlpaw when she ran away as a big f u to the clan, or she just drops the suffix and go by owl??
NO idea how amphibia would work translated into the warriors world bc we can’t have amphibia without the frogs, but it’s at least fun to speculate about toh. i never really planned to flesh out full owlphibia warriors aus, but this ask certainly got me thinking lmao
mostly i just include their warrior names/headcanon descriptions in my silly little oc allegiances like a fun little easter egg for no one but myself <3 i’ll definitely post all the catified blorbo designs once i finish them tho!! and i’m open to suggestions for names i haven’t figured out yet!

Does the bear have a name?
ok so i had this idea for a bit but im not sure how far to go with it so here we go. the bear is a palismen owned by an oc i made for the too late au story
Tumblr media
Alberic lived as a wild witch until he was recruited by Emperor Belos himself in his 20s and became one of his most loyal officers, almost to fanatical levels. He was one of the few who as ever fought the emperor and lived to tell the tale (he got his scar from Belos in fact). For the past few decades, he hunted wild witches and forced them into covens. Currently Alberic is about Lilith's and Eda's age range so around late 30s to early 40s(?). Also since Alberic is a part of the EC he can do all magic but excels best at construction, plant, and abomination magic specifically
(Also I like to believe that giving up your palismen is only a requirement to join the EC in the last 15 years and high ranking officers get to keep theirs.) Alberic's only companion for most of his life is his palisman, a black bear named Obron. I don't know what size the bigger animal palismans get to be but I'm gonna assume that they're roughly the size of small dog no matter their real scale. Alberic adores him to bits.
Obron is very shy around most people but rather childlike and curious. He loves to wander around on his own but always knows his way back to Alberic one way or another. Obron is incredibly loving and loyal to his owner. He is almost always in his live form and likes to cling onto to people he especially likes like a koala.
(also if anyone wants to know more about alberic feel free to drop an ask cuz i have a lot of ideas with this guy too if i don't post about him in time lol)

☮-friendship head canon 4 steve! or more so who do u think he’d get along with post s3 outside of the b.a.t.ts?
Steve is that guy who is friends with everyone. He even checks in on his old EC friends after everything in the finale, while most other people don't want anything to do with coven scouts. Not everyone is worth his time but he's there as a supportive hand to those who do want it (Severine comes to mind for example).
Obviously he bonds with everyone in the BATTs (maybe even joins a band with the bard kids?) and he has his cute little roadtrip with King, which I bet becomes a regular occurrence. Lilith was already a close friend but they hang out a lot more regularly now that there's no weird boss dynamic for her to worry about. He attends her book club every week without fail, even if he's the only one, and they drink wine and gossip about everyone else. He's less familiar with Eda but she's chill with him and affectionately calls him "Lily's little biker man"
And once he gets to spend more time with his brother, he'll get to befriend some of the kids as well. Gus is the obvious one because he spends so much time with Matt and the two of them are always welcome at Steve's house. Hunter also comes over a lot - he sees Steve as a big brother kind of figure and comes to him for advice, often on very basic social things he never got the chance to learn, and Steve is more than happy to help him out
Ask me for a headcanon from this list!

My Frustration With Belos
As a presence, Belos is fantastic. He actually has probably some of the best animation in the series and arguably the best voice actor in the entire cast. He sells every line Belos has with a gravity and menace that the emperor might otherwise not have. He sells his anger but also his control and even after I stopped liking the show, I found my attention demanded when he desired it.
Unfortunately, as a character he absolutely fucking sucks and is almost impossible to take seriously.
He only functions as Belos. Not even Emperor Belos because once you bring in that title, you have to tilt your head and ask "Well, what is he as an emperor? How does he use his minions to enact his will? What is his will?" In that order:
He is a kind, stately emperor who only asks for one rule to be obeyed. Even if you stayed out of the fold, if you come to him willingly seeking forgiveness, you will be granted it and absolved of your crimes, like with the wild witch friend in Hollow Mind. He revolutionized the Isles, turning them from seeming small towns to a now interconnected nation (his rise to power is literally impossible with news being able to spread so people can fact check him) and brought safety and regulation to a land that has none (Terra acts like the Safety codes in Them's the Breaks are new or something so beneath a proper witch as to be able to be entirely ignored and no one cares.) No one faces persecution except those who flaunt breaking his one rule but you may be of any race, skin color, belief, etc. and he doesn't care. You are all equal in his eyes.
He uses his minions weakly. They are bumbling fools who are honestly better at party planning than they are at combat (look at... Literally any fight with the EC scouts frankly. The literal only wins they get is raiding an empty, unguarded house and attacking two exhausted, distracted witches who are out of power.) They are seemingly not punished for this though except supposedly at the higher ranks. Even then, they are merely demoted. Those who wish to leave also show no fear in doing so, as proven by the EC scout who says fuck this and goes off to join the cute cat coven. This displays a lack of interest in power or enforcement.
His will appears to be to bring order to a land of chaos. To bring structure and unity to a land that didn't have it. He will go to any length, including manipulation, lying and threats in order to obtain this. He keeps mystique about him, seeming to believe that being feared is stronger than being loved, fitting with his claims that the Titan speaks to him and wishes for a rather extreme societal change. One he will see to no matter what.
These are... Actually interesting. You know, until you remember his actual goal is the genocide of literally every living being on the Isles. Then they come across as incredibly stupid, inept and backwards for what ANY of his goals should be and that's without getting into how his plan explicitly left out the entire child population of the Isles. This means he didn't even actually want to get the job done properly before he fucked off.
That is befitting Philip and Belos though as actual manipulators. They both are on easy street as far as it goes. The one manipulation we see from Philip is by using two people who clearly want something from him and are interested in helping him so so long as he doesn't literally start throwing fists, he's fine. Belos meanwhile leverages Eda's curse against Lilith, an entire fake backstory against Hunter, and just being Kikimora's boss to get what he wants. Anyone not in the EC though he never manages once to actually convince of anything and he is pretty bad at actually keeping up his deceptions.
This is of course made worse by knowing that 400 years ago, that commanding presence that is Belos... Was actually just a whiny British bloke who couldn't even wait until after his victims were dead to gloat about it. I tooooootally still fear him, especially as S3 commits narrative contrivance after narrative contrivance to A: let him be ALIVE and B: to let him win, CONSTANTLY, without also murdering the main characters. Like he literally tells a group of witches and a monster "I'm saving your souls," while he has them all at his mercy, having already shown he was more than capable of beating them all... And leaves. Because he is REALLY bad at his goal.
And honestly, him being so bluntly tied to a movement, time period and ethnicity that all bluntly say he's Christian without saying he's Christian... Actually just kind of makes him worse. Knowing his beliefs makes his behavior BAFFLING. He has none of the actual zeal and fury of a crusader, who were so bloodthirsty as to have peasants march on their own as they screamed Deus Vult, nor does he have the actual politics and methodologies of colonizers. The closest he is is a missionary and that's not even the case because he's not interested in conversion, only genocide. He is just an asshole who has the label "Christian.
It says nothing. Most of his character says nothing. They slam you over the head saying he should be saying something, that his backstory should be deep and that he had grand plans but if you interrogate these claims, no he doesn't. He says nothing except "Christianity bad" and essentially condemns the ENTIRE RELIGION because of how little nuance there is to him, his backstory makes him look pathetic, whiny and potentially sympathetic which makes no sense with the rest of his character, and his grand plan was literally DESIGNED to fail because he never gave it any real thought or else he would have baptized witches into being in covens so they had the sigils from birth and he'd get ALL OF THEM.
He is perhaps the personification of what is wrong with TOH in this way. If you look at any one scene, it seems to promise so much. The animation is correct. The voice acting is correct. You can see what themes he's supposed to be talking about and can make a Twitter post very easily about it. But... These are all surface level and only function as moments.
As a whole story, as a whole character, it falls to tatters as you see there was nothing there except conflicting promises and basic fantasy tropes.
======+++++======
I'm trying to not blog about TOH as much anymore because I'm just kind of tired of it but Belos has always been a thorn in my side because there are so many scenes that are so effective with him but when I think of him as a whole, I have nothing but boredom and annoyance. So I wanted to properly explore that and highlight how little sense his character makes and why just consuming him like popcorn is functional, even good, but if you try to have him for dinner, you'll find only bones.
I have a public Discord for any and all who want to join!

Some music related toh headcanons
Lilith can play the drums and is actually a good singer (at least when she was younger. She hasn't sang anything but the mandatory ec choir songs on sundays in 23 years)
Luz plays the guitar and makes silly songs for her friends and family. Eda taught her the guitar
Lilith is into metal (ACTUALLY CANON WOO)
Hunter can sing really high, and enjoys doing it
Raine taught King some basics on violin, after which he immediatly demanded more and can now play it too
When King was in the early learning stage everyone wore earmuffs around the house for a while
Amity was taught piano as a kid but quit it when she was eight, because she wanted to concentrate on other studies (read, she didn't want it in the first place but Odalia didn't need to know that)
