Eddie never asks Dustin to convince Steve of anything. No, if Eddie thinks Steve needs some persuasion (like getting him to play DnD or taking them all to Indianapolis), he asks Max and El. Aka, Steve’s girls (sure Robin could be included but they are just one person at this point, morphed together). Dustin would annoy Steve into saying an even harsher no, but Max and El? Ooohhh, they give him one look and he absolutely crumbles.

Hawkins, Indiana. The dreadful town in the middle of nowhere. Farmlands, hillbillies, and rich freaks who loved to tell you they were “popular”. I hated it here, but what else was I supposed to do? I’m in my senior year and refuse to not finish just to get a GED. I am Max Mayfield’s older sister and when she was just a toddler our parents split. Mom took Max and Dad took me, but I fought to spend the summers with Mom and Max. Every summer I did except for last summer which is how everything went down on both of our ends. Max dealing with underworld demons and me dealing with my own. I practically lived alone because of how much Dad was out. I took care of myself and learned to do it all. Until one day at the beginning of summer, right before I was about to leave for Hawkins, this young bimbo walked into our house. She looked like a hooker, a gold digger, and someone with major daddy issues. That summer I found out my father was living a whole lie apart from Max and me. He created this whole other family, and by “family” it was Dad, this bimbo, and two dogs. I won’t lie, I contemplated taking the dogs. He told me to get out and move back in with our Mom. All summer I packed everything I owned, black-mailed him into getting what I needed to take care of Max and me and left. I took the eleven-hour car trip from New York to Indiana.
I pulled through the trailer park entrance, making my way to the one mobile home that I knew too well. Putting the car in park, I got out taking in the surroundings and awful smell. From the front window, I saw Max visibly happy to see me. She ran out before I could run to her and we both fell in a tight hug.
“Y/N. I missed you. Never leave me again.” Max mumbled into my neck.
“I missed you too, kid. I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.” I smiled holding her closer.
Luckily the trailer was a two-bedroom trailer, so I shared one with Max while Mom got the other room. She worked long hours and late nights. Barely being home for Max, so being home is like I came for Max. Which I did, because if it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t have returned. The place still looked the same as the last time I was in it. Brown, brown, and oh yeah, more brown. Max set up a bed for me in the corner of her room while she took the other side. Part of me felt bad that she doesn’t have her own privacy anymore, but based on the late-night calls about her nightmares and night terrors, I know she wouldn’t mind. I set my things down and turned to sit on the bed.
“One perk of Dad bribing me to leave is that I got the car. So, wanna go for a drive? Get out of here and take a breather?” I said leaning back on my hands.
“Hell yeah.” Max sighed in relief. I knew she needed someone to support her and that is who I am going to be. Her main support while Mom was out supporting us. I took Max driving down farmlands and back roads that lead to a lake. I parked and we spent the night watching the sunset before heading home.
Tumblr media
School started within the next week or so from my arrival. The feeling of going to Hawkins High made both of us physically sick. When the first day came we regretted getting out of bed. I pulled into the parking lot and looked over at Max. Her face went from upset to straight disgust.
“It’s going to be okay. I’m here with you the entire time. Find me and I’ll be there for you. Maybe find your friends? Dustin was the sweetest to you, he can give you some kind of comfort.” I said gently squeezing her hand.
“Thanks, Y/N. I just want to get it over with and go home.” Max said, giving me a tight-lip smile. I knew this year was going to be harder on her than anyone, but if I could make some part of her day memorable, I will.
“Listen to your music. Remember to take breathers. And I love you!” I yelled at her walking towards the school and away from my car. She laughed, playfully flipping me off. I grabbed my bag, following her into school when this guy came out of nowhere and I bumped into him.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t see you.” I said picking up a pack of cigarettes and handing them back.
“No, it’s fine darling.” The voice said as our hands touched. That voice, I know that voice. It was familiar. I look up to see a curly, long-haired man with a metal look. Jeans, jean and leather jacket, a bandana, and a chain connected to his back pocket and belt loops. Only one kind of person in Hawkins looked like that
“Eddie?” I questioned, finally getting to see his face.
“Y/N?” He questioned back, looking at me.
“Oh my gosh, it is you.” I smiled wide. Eddie and I used to be friends when we were younger and every summer we would hang out when I came home. Calling each other wasn’t an option because of my father, so we would write one another and I kept everyone.
“It really is. Come here.” Eddie enveloped his arms around me, holding me close. I wrapped my arms around his neck, hugging him back.
“When did you get back? I would’ve helped you move back in.” Eddie kept looking over my face as if something happened.
“Last week, but I know you were working hard at the plant. I didn’t want to come over and bother you just to bring in heavy items.” I said walking inside with high school with him.
“You know I would do anything to help you. Don’t hesitate again.” He said seriously.
“Oh yeah? Just so you can go through my panties again like last summer?” I said standing in front of him at his locker.
“You weren’t supposed to be that fast in the bathroom.” Eddie’s face went red.
“You admit it!” I said laughing and walking away.
“No, Y/N. Get back here.” He laughed following me to our homeroom class.

A few months passed and it was late fall. Fall in Hawkins was similar to what a New England falls resembles. Beautiful colored leaves, colder weather, and a vibe of dark academia. Eddie and I skipped the last class which was just a Study Hall and headed to his secret picnic table in the forest. We’ve been talking about anything and everything. More than we could write in our letters.
“It wasn’t my ideal situation to come back home to basically become a mother figure to my younger sister or be her keeper, but she’s my best friend. I love that girl with everything in me.” I smiled thinking about Max. “I’d do anything for her.”
“That’s admirable. I feel the same way about Wayne.” Eddie said, leaning over the table on his elbows.
“I haven’t seen Wayne since we were kids. How has he been?” I asked following suit and leaning my elbows on the table. His eyes sparkled at the mention of his beloved uncle.
“He’s doing good. They switched him to the night shift down at the plant, but other than being tired, he’s doing good. I can’t believe you remembered our last conversation about him.” Eddie said looking at me. Just looking into his eyes made me weak.
“Of course, I did, Eddie. I care about you and Wayne so much. You’re very close to me so I’m going to pay attention to what you say. Even if you ramble on about how “Henderson” is annoying you about winning the last game.” I laughed, smiling at him.
“It was valid!” Eddie was very enthusiastic about his Dungeons and Dragons meetings. “Do you still listen to rock music?” He asked playing with his rings.
“I do and some metal. The ones you recommended. I really like Metallica.” I smiled while looking at him wearing a shit-eatin’ grin knowing I paid attention to his requests. “You know I have kept every single one of our letters.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I love that we started that at a young age. It’s very endearing. I mean who would’ve pegged you for the kind of guy to write letters to his childhood best friend while being the town’s metalhead freak, but because he plays a fantasy game.” I looked him in the eyes again.
“Don’t forget to mention satanic cultists too.” He chuckled. “I’ve kept all of mine too. Wayne tells me it's because I’m in love with you.” He blushed saying those words.
“You? In love with me?” I chuckled. That’s funny because it’s not true. Eddie wasn’t in love with me, he’s my friend.
“What if he’s not wrong? Would it be so bad if I was?” Eddie leaned over the table again, this time getting closer.
“No,” I gulped. “Would it be bad if I said I am too?” He’s showing the signals. Either show mine too and get rejected or finally be able to be in love with Eddie. My hands were shaking from this interaction. I didn’t get many in New York. The girls were prettier and the guys weren't Eddie.
“No, darling. It’d be great, so I can do this.” Eddie closed the gap between us and kissed me. I froze for a quick second, letting my brain register what was happening. I raised my hand to hold his face and kissed him back.

CHAPTER III: Rebel Yell
Y/n awoke early to the sound of the alarm clock, her mind still a little foggy from sleep. It was her first full day at Hawkins, and she had the responsibility of driving Max to her new elementary school. She rolled out of bed, quickly dressed in her favorite jeans and a t-shirt from AC/DC, and headed downstairs.
Max was already in the kitchen, finishing her breakfast. y/n gave her an encouraging smile as she made her own coffee to go.
‘Ready for your first day, Madmax?’ She asked, trying to instill enthusiasm in her voice.
Max nodded, though her expression showed a mixture of nerves and excitement.
‘Yes, I think so.’
After a quick breakfast and making sure they both had everything they needed, they left the house and climbed into the car. The cool morning air greeted them as y/n drove through the quiet streets of Hawkins toward Max's elementary school. The drive was relatively short and quiet, but y/n tried to keep their spirits up by playing some soft music on the radio.
Arriving at the school, y/n parked the car in the driveway. She looked at Max with a smile, but the younger girl looked worried.
‘You're going to do great, Max. Remember, just be yourself and have fun. I'll see you later, okay? Remember that I’ll wait in…’
Max smiled, a little more relaxed.
‘In the High School parking lot’ Interrupted her, calm. ‘Thanks, y/n. I'll see you later.’
y/n stood on the sidewalk, watching Max walk into the building with other children. Once Max disappeared from her sight, y/n rested her hands on the steering wheel of her car, feeling a small knot in her stomach. It was her turn to face her own first day at the new school.
She sat in the car, looking at the clock on the dashboard. She still had time before her classes began. She remembered Sam's words once more and felt a little more encouraged and decided to use the time to mentally prepare herself.
The parking lot was quiet, with only a few cars arriving as other students began to show up. Y/n took a deep breath, closed her eyes for a moment and let the soft music on the radio soothe her. She knew this new start at Hawkins would be a challenge, but she was determined to face it with the same energy and determination she had always had.
When the clock struck the entry time, y/n picked up her backpack, turned off the engine and got out of the car. With a mixture of nerves and resolve, she walked toward the entrance of the high school, ready to face her first day in this new chapter of her life.
As she walked to the school entrance, y/n noticed a group of boys chatting animatedly near the main doors. Among them, she recognized Eddie, the boy she had met the day before while he and his friends were pasting up posters about the battle of the bands. Eddie saw her and smiled at her, raising a hand in greeting.
‘y/n!’ Eddie called out, approaching her. ‘Glad to see you're here. Ready for the first day of school?’
Y/n smiled back, feeling a little more reassured to see a familiar face.
‘Yeah, I guess so. Thanks for the flyer yesterday, by the way. Do you mind finally introducing me to your friends?’
Eddie nodded and gestured toward his companions.
‘Sure. This is Jeff.’ he said, pointing to a tall, dark-skinned guy wearing jeans and an Iron Maiden T-shirt. ‘This is Grant’ he added, introducing a shorter, sturdy guy with a friendly expression and a Clash T-shirt. ‘And this is Gareth.’ he finished, pointing to a boy with wavy, messy blond hair wearing a Metallica t-shirt. He was the only one who didn't seem to want to look her in the eyes, he looked nervous, and you could tell he was younger than his friends.
‘Guys, this is y/n from yesterday.’ Eddie explained. They waved at her with a welcoming smile.
Y/n nodded her head in appreciation.
‘Hi, guys, huh, could you… tell me where the administration is? I need to pick up my schedule and a few things.’
‘Sure, we'll take you there’, said Eddie. ‘Come on, it's right over here.’
The group moved together, leading y/n through the halls filled with students preparing for the start of the day. The girl tried not to look around too much, avoiding as much as possible the attention that she was already getting. Boys and girls kept staring at her.
‘So, y/n, do you just listen or play?’ Asked Jeff, breaking the silence as they walked, pointing out her t-shirt.
‘Oh… Yes, as a matter of fact. I play guitar in a.. I used to play guitar in a band in California’ She corrected herself with a sad smile.
‘Oh, sorry about that, it must be hard to leave it all behind.’ Said Grant.
‘It's okay, thanks. I mean, Hawkins doesn't seem to be anything like San Diego, but it doesn't seem bad yet.’
‘Great!’ Gareth exclaimed. ‘You've got to come to the battle of the bands this weekend. It's going to be awesome.’
‘I definitely will.’ Replied y/n, feeling more excited with every step.
They reached the administration office and Eddie pointed to the door.
‘Here we are. Go and get your schedule. See you after class!’
‘Thank you, guys,’ said y/n, grateful for their help. They each said goodbye with a smile and a friendly nod before heading off to their respective classes. Y/n walked into the administration office, feeling a little more confident and ready to face her first day.
She waited nervously in the administration office while the principal, a middle-aged man with glasses and a budding bald spot, checked her schedule. After a few minutes, he rose from his desk and motioned for her to follow him.
‘Welcome to Hawkins High, y/n,’ said the principal with a friendly smile as they walked down the hall. ‘I'll take you to your first class. I hope you feel comfortable here.’
‘Thank you, sir, I hope I do’ y/n replied, trying to keep her nervousness under control.
When they reached the history classroom, the principal opened the door and ushered her in. The class fell silent as the students watched the new girl curiously.
‘Good morning, class,’ said the principal. ‘I would like to introduce your new classmate, y/n Hargrove. I hope you will all make her feel welcome.’
Professor Reynolds, a short, dark-haired woman with a few silver locks looked serious, the kind of professor who didn't want interruptions in her class. As she walked, her shoes echoed on the floor. She addressed y/n as she wrote on the blackboard, without looking at her and motioned the girl to the front of the class.
‘Welcome, Miss Hargrove. Please introduce yourself to your classmates,’ she said, giving her no option to refuse.
y/n cleared her throat and looked around the class, feeling all eyes on her.
‘Hi, I'm y/n. I just moved here from California. I'm in my senior year and really would have preferred to avoid this awkward introduction.’
Some of the boys laughed. Murmurs filled the room, and a few students exchanged interested glances. Not recognizing any of Eddie's friends, y/n looked around for a seat and found a free one next to a boy with voluminous hair and a strong smell of hairspray. She sat down next to him, noticing that he was mumbling to himself as he tried to fix a text.
Out of the corner of her eye, y/n caught a glimpse of what appeared to be some sort of presentation essay. She remembered helping Molly with one not too long ago for a university. Wordlessly, she pulled out a sheet of paper and began to rewrite the boy's essay, paying attention as best she could to the class as she did so.
Time passed quickly, and soon the bell rang announcing the end of class. Students began to get up and gather their things. Y/n turned to the boy and handed him the sheet she had written on.
‘Hey, take a look at this,’ said the blonde, surprising the boy. ‘I made some changes that I think might impress the college you want to apply to.’
The boy looked at the sheet, his eyes widening with surprise, half surprised, half grateful. ‘Wow, thank you. I had no… Thank you! I don't know what to say' He stuttered. 'Oh, you're the new girl... y/n right? Welcome to Hawkins.’
‘Thanks and it was nothing, I hope it's not too weird,’ she replied with a smile. ‘I'm not a stalker, its that I just helped a friend of mine, two weeks ago. She was applying for Columbia.’
‘Oh, no, it's just… it took me by surprise. I didn't think that someone was watching… it was bad right?’ He asked, referring to the essay.
Some girls in the class did not seem happy to see y/n talking to Steve, exchanging glances and whispering to each other. The girl noticed this but ignored it, concentrating on the conversation with the boy.
‘Oh, not really. Sometimes it is difficult to put your thoughts in order…’
Steve smiled broadly.
‘Well thank you for organizing my thoughts, y/n. This means a lot to me. I'm Steve, by the way’
‘No problem. Nice to meet you, Steve, and goog luck with your application!’ said y/n before leaving the classroom.
Y/n walked into her second class of the day, English, with some relief that the teacher introduced her to the class himself and then let her choose her seat. Although there were several empty seats, her eyes fell on Gareth, who was sitting in the back of the room. He gave her a shy nod and smiled as she came up to take the empty seat next to him.
Several boys seemed disappointed to see that she wasn't sitting with them, exchanging glances with each other and muttering something she couldn't clearly hear. She thought she heard something that rhymed to leak. However, y/n decided to ignore the stares and focus on the class.
Gareth kindly wrote in the corner of her notebook the list of books they were going to study that year and some of the topics they had already covered in class. He did so discreetly, making sure not to disrupt the class while the teacher explained about the structure of the subject.
Y/n read the list carefully and nodded, grateful for Gareth's help. Slowly, they began to discuss the books and course topics, establishing a connection that y/n found comforting in the midst of the new experience at a different school.
At the end of class, the teacher announced that they would be doing a paired analysis paper for the next assignment for the next book, so she immediately looked at Gareth, and although he seemed flattered, he raised his fist and she bumped it with hers. Again, out of the corner of her eye she noticed that some of her classmates looked disappointed.
When the bell rang y/n gathered her things, and Gareth murmured.
‘If you need anything else about the books or anything else, just let me know,’ said with a friendly smile. ‘Oh, I wanted to ask… Can I call you y/n/n or would you prefer y/o/n/n?’
‘Thanks. I really appreciate the help,’ she replied, smiling back, and nodded, ‘As long as you don't tell me my full name, you can call me however you want’ she joked. ‘Then… Can I tell you Gar?’ She asked as she slung her backpack over her shoulder. He blushed slightly, but nodded.
‘Sure.’ He smiled back.
They both got up and walked out of the classroom together, leaving behind the curious stares and murmurs of some classmates. They headed to the next class, art, which they luckily also shared, and once it was over, they met up with the other members of Gareth's gang in the school cafeteria.
Over lunch in the school cafeteria, Eddie casually remarked to y/n that he had had classes with her brother, Billy.
'Not much in common, right?' Asked her. She, absentmindedly fiddling with a straw, looked in the direction Eddie pointed and saw Billy a few tables over, surrounded by the popular kids at school.
She shrugged indifferently, watching her brother interact with his new companions as she continued with her lunch. Although she adored her twin brother, even in California they had very different friend groups, and she always tried to avoid crossing paths with him. None of the Hargrove twins ever accepted their respective friendships.
Many times people had told her that they didn't understand how, being so different from her brother, they could get along so well when they were together. It was something that could only be explained by the bond of being twins, perhaps.
The rest of the lunch break, the boys bombarded her with questions about her life in San Diego. She talked animatedly about her friends, mentioning Sam, Molly and Adam, her bandmates in Crimson Chaos, and shared stories about the things she liked to do in her old hometown.
She asked them questions too, trying to redirect attention away from herself. They told her how they met, what they did for fun in town, among other things. They seemed to be very interested in the Dungeons and Dragons role-playing game, and had regular parties. She thought they would get along well with Adam, who was a nerd for such things. He had insisted on getting her into the game many times, until one day he succeeded. It was interesting, maybe he hadn't managed to get her addicted to the game, but from time to time without realizing it, she had been drawn into a game with Adam's friends outside the band when they needed a substitute.
The character she had created with Adam's help somewhat mirrored y/n herself. Lyria Starfall was a chaotic good elf bard, who with her skills of trickery, persuation, stealth and charisma, and of course her musical talent, inspired and assisted her friends in their adventures.
Jeff, with palpable enthusiasm, invited her to attend the band's rehearsal they were having on Halloween night, the next day.
‘y/n, you have to come!’ said Jeff, his face lit up with excitement. ‘It'll be great to get your opinion.’
y/n smiled, feeling flattered by the invitation. ‘Sure! I'd love to hear you play.’
The rest of the day was more of the same. She shared a class with Billy, who sat next to her, making the curious glances from boys she had received in the first classes much more imperceptible. And after she crossed paths again with Steve, who thanked her again and introduced her to Nancy, his girlfriend. The girl seemed worried about something, kind of distracted, but since she didn't know them, y/n didn't want to jump to conclusions or prejudge without knowing someone.
When the bell rang, ending the day of classes, she slung her backpack over her shoulder and walked to the parking lot, trying to ignore the stares of those around her.
In the hallway, Billy was talking to a freckle-faced boy, and a group of girls seemed to drooling over him, panties on the floor. Y/n couldn't help but wince in disgust. Jeff who was just passing by her followed her gaze and let out a chuckle.
‘Too awkward?’ He asked, distracting her. She looked at him and rolled her eyes.
‘Too awkward. You don't know how much,’ she muttered, feigning a shiver as she opened the door and walked out of the building. The wind ruffled her hair, but she managed to tuck it behind her ear. ‘Do you have sisters?’
The boy denied. ‘The only one who has sisters is Gareth. Two little ones.’ He informed her, and y/n smiled.
‘That's why he has a big brother vibe,’ she agreed. Jeff let out a laugh nodding, as they got closer and closer to the girl's impala, where the other three boys waited.
‘You bet. You should see him, the little girls know he's got an easy yes with them. He can't say no to em.’
‘Are you talking about Chloe and Sophie?’ Gareth asked, curious and with a smile on his face at the mention of her sisters. He seemed more comfortable talking than he had earlier that day. Molly had once told him that people were intimidated by y/n when they first met her, and after meeting her, they felt relaxed. Maybe that was the case. ‘Isn't it a big brother's job to spoil them?’
‘Yes, it is. That's what we're for.’ y/n admitted. She couldn't say no to Max either. Gareth raised a hand in the air for her to bump. With a smile, she responded to the gesture. Just then, she managed to see Max approaching with her skateboard. ‘Speaking of the devil…’ y/n waved at her and she smiled.
‘Okay. We'll leave you two alone.’ The four of them started to walk away, but Gareth turned back to y/n.
‘Yeah! Don't forget to ask about tomorrow!’ He reminded her. Max looked at her sister with a mischievous grin. She put two fingers to her forehead, pretending to have a headache.
‘Oh, the visions... I think... They are... coming back,’ she muttered. y/n let out a laugh and pushed her toward the car.
‘Come on, get in, Nostradamus. We have to go to the market with your mom,’ she commented, opening the door of her Impala and climbing in. Despite being mentally exhausted, and looking back on everything that had happened that first day of school, y/n thought it really wasn't a bad start. At least it wasn't as bad as she had expected. All that remained was to wait for what else the future would bring.

Ever since you had moved to Hawkins, your life had been a nonstop nightmare. Life before Hawkins wasn’t all that great either, but at least California has sunlight, beaches, great weather… Hawkins was just, Hawkins. Your little sister, Max, and your stepbrother, Billy, were just as excited about this new beginning as you were.
You remember the first day of school like it was yesterday. Stumbling to your locker, you tried the combination five times and your locker wouldn’t open.
“Goddamn it,” you mutter to yourself under your breath. As you tried to open your locker one last time, all your books suddenly slipped out of your hands onto the dirty high school floor causing you to sigh.
“Are you alright?” A voice came up from behind you. Your head whipped around revealing a boy standing right behind you. He had shoulder length hair that was slightly frizzy, tattoos covering his arms and deep chocolate brown eyes. He started to crouch down to pick up the books that slipped from your hands.
“Yeah, yeah I’m okay. I just can’t get this fucking thing open.” You groaned, causing the boy to display a slight smile on his face.
“I think it might be because this is my locker. I’m 748. You’re 747.” The boy pointed to the locker directly next to the one that you were trying. You could feel heat rising up your neck onto your cheeks as you were completely embarrassed.
“Oh my god, I feel completely stupid. Thank you…” You waited for him to give you his name.
“Eddie,” He smiled and reached out his hand. You gave Eddie your name and shook his hand.
“It’s nice to meet you Eddie.” You smiled at him before shoving your books in your locker and walking away. Little did you know, since your last names were Mayfield and Munson, Eddie sat next to you in homeroom and the two of you shared a couple classes together. Throughout your first year at Hawkins High, and Eddie’s second year, the two of you became best friends.
***
As you got closer with Eddie, you started to feel something towards him. You started to feel a bit nervous when you saw him. Your palms would get sweaty when he would call you the pet names he usually calls you. Your stomach would flip flop whenever he took a hit of the joint that you two shared. You would feel your heart shatter into a million pieces whenever Eddie would tell you about his latest one night stand. Even though you became extremely close with Eddie during your freshman year, you also became close to the King of Hawkins High, Steve Harrington. You started hanging out with Nancy Wheeler and by association, became friends with Steve. Steve was the most popular guy in school but he wasn’t Eddie.
It wasn’t unusual for you to spend your free time at Eddie’s. Billy was usually having sex with a different girl in his room and there’s only so many sex sounds a person can take before they explode.
You and Eddie both lay on his bed in your pajamas with a scary movie on in the background. Again, nothing unusual. As you take a hit of your joint and pass it to Eddie, you say, “What do you think about Steve Harrington?”
That caused Eddie to start choking on the smoke he had just inhaled. “Jesus, Munson, breathe,” you laughed at him.
“Why do you wanna know how I feel about Harrington?” Eddie scoffed.
“Nancy told me he wants to ask me out,” You looked over at Eddie to try to catch his reaction. You looked down at his hands to see him clenched his fists. “You’re my best friend and I just wanted to see what you thought.”
Eddie took your hand in his. “I want you to be happy, sweetheart. If Harrington makes you happy, then I think you need to have a talk with him.” He smiled at me which made me smile back.
“I have an idea.” You sat up, trying to get Eddie to feel excited about your idea. “Steve’s having a party tomorrow night. Nancy’ll be there, Barb, Robin, Chrissy… a whole bunch of us. Why don’t you come?”
“Princess, I know for a fact that Steve isn’t gonna want me at his party.” Eddie sounded doubtful in your idea.
“He will if you bring this.” I shook Eddie’s bag filled with weed in his face. Eddie rolled his eyes at you.
“You’re lucky I love you.” He responded and placed a wet kiss right on the top of your forehead.
Your stomach sank again.
You and Eddie arrive at Steve’s house a little after the party started and the two of you stuck out like a sore thumb. As you looked around, it seemed like half of the high school was there.
“Hey!” Steve noticed you across the room and walked right over to you. “Thanks for coming! You look… wow!”
“Thanks, Steve,” you blushed. “You know Eddie, right?” You tried to introduce them to one another.
“Yeah, yeah. Hey, Munson.” Steve barely looked at Eddie as he said that.
“Harrington.” Eddie responded coldly. Suddenly, the room was filled with so much tension.
“Alright, I’m gonna go grab a drink.” You said as you were walking away, trying to break the tension.
“Come out back when you’re ready. We’re all hanging by the pool.” Steve yelled at you while walking over to the back door.
As you walk over to the kitchen, you run into your stepbrother, Billy, walking in the opposite direction.
“What are you doing here?” He questions rudely.
“Um, I was invited. What are you doing here? You still obsessed with showing Steve how much of a big boy you are?” You smirked at Billy and continued walking.
“Watch it!” He yelled at you, to which you replied by throwing up your middle finger behind your back.
Steve’s fridge was filled with beer so you took two, one for you and another for Eddie, and headed out to the backyard.
There were a bunch of chairs set up outside with a fire pit in the middle of them. Sitting there was Steve, Nancy, Robin, Barb, Chrissy, Tommy, Carol, and lastly, Eddie. “Hi, guys!” You greeted the group before handing Eddie his beer. You took the empty seat between Eddie and Steve and gazed into the fire.
One beer quickly became two and two beers quickly became three. The night was going pretty smoothly and it seemed as though even Eddie was having a great time. He spent a majority of the time making small talk with Chrissy Cunningham, who was seated next to him. After the conversation began to die down a bit, Robin exclaimed, “Let’s play a game!”
Steve initially groaned, “Games, Robin? How old are we? Ten?”
“Games could be fun,” you smirked over at Steve.
“What kind of games do you want to play?” Steve caved in, seeing your eyes light up.
“Let’s play truth or dare,” Robin smirked. You sighed internally. Truth or dare never ends well.
“Alright, let’s do it.” Steve agreed.
After a few rounds, it was Eddie’s turn. So far, Robin and Nancy kissed, Chrissy had to choose somebody to flash (luckily for her she chose Robin), and Steve told us all the last time he had sex… which was right before he had met me.
“Truth or dare, Munson?” Steve looked over at Eddie.
“Dare,” he responded coldly.
“I dare you to kiss Chrissy.” Steve laughed. “The freak kissing the prettiest girl at Hawkins High.” Your stomach dropped when you heard Steve call Chrissy the prettiest girl in school.
You looked over at Eddie with wide eyes, not anticipating him to actually do it.
“It’s okay, Eddie. It’s a game,” Chrissy consented as Eddie shifted over to get closer to her. He reached his hand out to grip her neck, ever so slightly. They both closed their eyes and leaned into one another. All you could hear was Chrissy gasp into the kiss, so you could only guess that Eddie had slipped his tongue into her mouth. A classic Munson move.
“Alright, Munson. I told you to kiss her, not eat her face.” Steve laughed. You could feel Steve look over at you as your eyes were glued to the fire sitting in front of you. You were trying not to let the tears that were glossing your eyes fall down your cheeks. Eddie was your best friend. That’s all.
“Mayfield, it's your turn, babe.” Steve started. Your stomach flipped as that was the first time Steve had called you babe. “Truth or dare?”
You weren’t sure if it was the alcohol or your emotions from watching Eddie and Chrissy make out, but suddenly, you had other plans. You whispered over to Steve, “Follow me. I have another idea.” You got up off the chair and took his hand in yours, slowly dragging him up.
“Sorry, folks! Gotta go!” Steve laughed to the group as you dragged him into the house. You had looked back at the group, who were already back to playing the game, but not Eddie. He was staring daggers into you and Steve. You loved every second of it.
You had dragged Steve through his filled house, up his stairs and into his bedroom. After the two of you were in the bedroom, you slammed the door shut and immediately connected his lips to yours.
“What do you have up your sleeves, Mayfield?” Steve whispered in between kisses.
“Nancy told me that you liked me. Is that true?” You suddenly gained the confidence to ask him.
“I do.” Steve said while batting his eyelashes at you. “I thought you liked Munson?”
You pulled away from Steve to look at him completely, “Why…why would you say that?”
“It’s just that everyone thought you guys were a couple. You are always together so I just figured you were screwing or something.”
“I’m all yours, Steve.” You had connected your lips back to his, deepening the kiss while nudging him towards the bed.  You laid back on the bed as he laid on top of you, ravishing you. As he kissed his way down your neck, you involuntarily groaned.
“Steve,” you whimpered. Just as Steve lifted your shirt over your head, his bedroom door immediately swung open, ricocheting off the wall. Eddie was at the door eating Chrissy’s face with his hands cupping her breasts through her shirt.
“Fuck, Eddie! Get out!” You threw your shirt at him to get him to leave.
“Oh sorry! Thought this was the spare!” Eddie exclaimed as he and Chrissy left. Chrissy gently closed the door behind them.
“Where were we?” Steve cocked an eyebrow at you while kissing down your neck. Steve really took his time with you, but it was very obvious that Eddie was not taking his time with Chrissy. Her moans were already filling the entirety of Steve’s upstairs.
“Fuck, Eddie!” Just the way you had yelled at Eddie earlier. “You’re so good! Yeah…yeah right there!”
You hadn’t even noticed that Steve was pumping in and out of you, his cock splitting you open. All you could focus on was your best friend having sex in the next room, and your heart was split in two because he wasn’t having sex with you.
***
It’s been two months since you and Steve have been official, and you’ve never been happier. After a couple of dates, Eddie and Chrissy figured out that they just weren’t compatible. Not the way you and Steve were. Though you and Steve were together, you still spent a majority of your time with Eddie. You wanted to be anywhere that wasn’t home. Steve understood the dynamic of your friendship and he was completely fine with it. Or so you thought.
After a long night of smoking and watching horror movies, the two of you fell asleep in Eddie’s bed. Something woke you up out of your sleep. The sound of your name being spoken, or rather whimpered. As you started to regain consciousness, you felt Eddie behind you, deep asleep, rutting his clothed crotch into your clothed ass, while whimpering your name. You debated letting him finish, but the thought of Steve popped into your head, causing you to wake Eddie.
“Eds, get up!” you nudged him, causing him to jump awake.
“What! What is it?” He seemed genuinely confused. You pointed down to his very obvious boner. “Was I…”
“Just a little,” you cringed.
“Fuck, I’m so sorry, Mayfield.” Eddie covered his face with his hands, obviously very embarrassed.
“Eds, it’s fine. We can’t control our bodies and what they do.” Who were you to judge Eddie with the obvious wetness pooling at your center. “I think I’m just gonna go home.” You started to get up before Eddie quickly grabbed your hand.
“Please don’t go. I can just go to the bathroom real quick and take care of this and then we can start another movie. Just please. Stay.” Eddie pleaded with you. You sighed and shook your head.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Eds.” You rubbed his hand with your thumb before letting go. The feeling of his hand on yours felt more like cheating than waking up to him grinding into your ass.
The last thing you could hear before walking out of Eddie’s room was him softly cursing at himself under his breath. A part of you felt awful for leaving him, but another part of you would have taken things to another level if you’d stayed, and you couldn’t hurt Steve like that.
As you walked into your room, you plopped on your bed and let out a huge groan. Thankfully, it was the middle of the night meaning everyone was asleep. The silence of the house only caused the thoughts in your head to get louder and louder. The feeling of Eddie’s cock rutting against your ass. This has never happened before, but you would have chalked it up to Eddie having a wet dream about a cheerleader or something. But he was whimpering your name. Desperate whimpers as his grinding became more desperate. More needy.
The more you thought about it, the more you were aware of every single part of your body. Your heartbeat was too loud. You could feel the beads of sweat dripping between your breasts. You could feel your clit begin to pulsate as it was desperate to be touched. You bit your lip as you quietly reached over to your nightstand, pulling out your trusty vibrator. Because of how worked up you were, you knew it wasn’t going to take much to make you orgasm.
You teased yourself at first. Trailing your finger around your neck and down to your tits. Luckily, you weren’t wearing a bra, and your arousal caused your nipples to become rock hard. Your fingers slowly started to circle around your clothed nipple. You softly exhale at the contact. You were planning on teasing yourself for a lot longer but you couldn’t take it anymore.
In one swift movement, your shorts and panties were laying at the foot of your bed with your vibrator making contact with your clit. Fuck, you groaned at the contact. Your brain kept picturing Eddie and what he was doing earlier in the evening. You loved Steve. Steve treated you so well and made you so happy. But there was nothing you wanted more in the world than for Eddie to have kept going. For him to wake up to realize what he was doing and keep going. For him to climb on top of you and fuck you.
When you turned the vibrator up to the higher setting, you were already close. Eddie was in your head egging you on. Telling you how girl of a girl you are and how needy you are for him.
As your orgasm washed over you, your hand fell to your mouth to stop you from screaming his name. The name of the guy who wasn’t even your boyfriend.
The next day, you didn’t see Eddie at all in the morning. Since you’re always locker neighbors, he usually waits at your locker for you, but this morning he was a no show. You were at your locker gathering your books when all of a sudden, someone came up behind you and wrapped his hands around you, lifting you up. Automatically thinking it’s Eddie, you screamed, “Eds! What are you doing?!”
The arms put you down, causing you to turn around. Steve was standing behind you with a confused look painted on his face. “Eddie?”
“Shit, Steve! I’m sorry!” You pecked him on the lips. “I’m just used to meeting Eddie here. Creature of habit, I guess.”
Steve let out a fake sounding chuckle as he smiled down at you.  “Hey, where were you last night? I called your house and got an earful of Hargrove.” Steve scoffed.
“Oh, Eddie and I were having one of our movie nights.” You smiled innocently. Steve doesn’t need to know specifics.
Steve reached out to your hands while whispering your name, “I think we need to talk.” The bell rang for classes to start but classes were the last thing you were interested in at the moment.
“What’s up, babe?” You questioned.
“Look at me in the eyes and tell me you're not in love with him.” Steve said sternly. Your throat began to feel dry as you found it difficult to look at Steve.
“I…Steve…” You began.
“I know how close you are with Munson. I know you two are best friends. But you are my girlfriend. Not his. I really hate to do this to you,  but I need you to choose. Me or him.” Steve said sternly. He was actually serious.
Behind Steve, you noticed the entire reason why Eddie didn’t meet you at your locker this morning. All you could see was him leaning against a locker while talking to a girl in a cheerleader uniform. You could hear the way she chuckled all the way over here.
“I’m yours, Steve. Only yours.” You grabbed his face and planted a sloppy kiss on his lips before heading to class.
It’s been a couple days since you stopped talking to Eddie cold turkey. A part of you felt extremely guilty, watching him slowly pull away, but the other part of you didn’t feel bad at all. Eddie was a player, plain and simple. You and Steve had something special and you wouldn't jeopardize your relationship over something that wasn’t real.
Since you stopped talking to Eddie, you spent more and more time at Steve’s house. It was really great being able to spend time with him like this. On this particular night, you told Steve you wouldn't be able to spend the night because you had a drama club meeting.
When you arrived at the Drama Room, you noticed Eddie in the room, setting up the table for his Hellfire Club meeting. Unfortunately, you were way too loud opening the door so you couldn’t slowly back away. You and Eddie had just stared at each other for a few moments in silence before you let out, “I’m sorry. I thought I had drama practice tonight.”
“Oh, sorry. They’re in the cafeteria tonight.” Eddie replied sorrowfully.
“Thanks.” You quickly turned around to run out of the room. Eddie tried to call after you, but you had already made it halfway down the hallway.
Drama practice ran quite late tonight, as the parking lot was completely empty by the time you left the school. You sort of expected Eddie’s van to still be here but Hellfire Club must’ve let out early tonight.
Not feeling like walking all the way home, you decided to stop at Steve’s house since it was closer. After five minutes of walking, you arrived at the Harrington house. You reached down and took the spare key from underneath the welcome mat and let yourself in.
“Steve!” You yelled. Silence.
Music blasted from up the stairs so you decided to follow the noise. The music was coming from Steve’s room. That wasn’t the only noise coming from Steve’s room.
As you opened the door, you were greeted with Nancy on top of Steve, completely naked. She was rocking back and forth on his cock making him whimper, in a way you’ve never heard.
“Steve?” You choked. Steve and Nancy both stopped dead in their tracks and looked over at you.
“Shit!” They yelled at the same time. “I can explain!” Steve yelled after you. You burst into tears as you ran out of Steve’s room, down the stairs, and out of his house, into the pouring rain.
Your house was a ten minute walk and Eddie’s was a twenty minute walk, yet you chose to run to Eddie’s house. You just wanted to be in the arms of your best friend.
Extremely out of breath from running and sobbing, you finally made it to Eddie’s trailer. Your hands started banging on the door waiting for him to answer. You could barely see from the rain dripping down your forehead and the tears falling from your eyes.
After a minute, Eddie arrived at the door with wide eyes.
“What’s wrong, sweetheart?” He questioned.
“I went to Steve’s and he was fucking Nancy.” You whispered, but Eddie heard you loud and clear.
Eddie whispered your name under his breath before you grabbed his face in your hands and planted a sloppy kiss on his lips. The two of you melted into the kiss for a few seconds. The butterflies in your stomach were relentless as you always wanted to know what it would feel like to have his lips on yours. Though, you wished it would be under better circumstances. You let go as soon as you heard someone’s voice coming from inside the trailer.
“Eds! Who is it?” A girl’s voice called. The girl who he was flirting with this morning..
Eddie whispered your name before your hands covered your mouth.
“I don’t know what I’m doing here. I’m sorry, I have to go.” You ran away back into the rain, slowly making your way home.
***
It’s been six months since you and Steve inevitably broke up. Believe it or not, you two started to become good friends. You had hated him for a little bit in the beginning, but even though he was physically cheating on you, you had mentally been cheating on him for a lot longer.
After the night you and Eddie kissed, you two hadn’t kissed again. You haven't even talked about it. The only thing he asked was if you were okay after everything with Steve. He continued to date other girls and you continued to date other guys.
That was until one night you had gone out with Jason Carver. The two of you had a great time seeing a movie, but when you had gotten back into the car, he had tried to force himself on you. Tried to get you to do things you did not want to do. He grabbed your shirt so hard it tore. You’re favorite shirt. Funny enough, it was the shirt you were wearing the first time you met Eddie. You were finally able to push yourself off of him and run. Every time you need to run somewhere, you find yourself running right to Eddie Musnon.
This time, you didn’t care if there was another woman in there, you were going to burst right in. As soon as you burst in the door, you ran all the way down to Eddie’s room, where he was laying in his bed in his pajamas, strumming at his guitar with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. He instantly put his guitar on the ground and his cigarette on his ashtray before jumping out of bed.
He grabbed the fabric of your torn shirt and traced it in his fingers. His hands grabbed onto your shoulders before looking you right into the eyes. “Who did this to you?” His voice was almost so deep it sounded as though he was growling.
“Jason Carver.” You whispered.
“I’m gonna kill him.” Eddie grabbed the keys to his van before gently pushing you aside. You grabbed onto his arm, not wanting him to go anywhere.
“No. Don’t go. I need you.” You pleaded with him, almost sounding completely desperate.
“Okay, princess. I’ll stay.” He walked back towards you. Eddie reached into his drawer to grab you a pair of sweatpants, a t- shirt, and a towel. “How about you shower tonight off, yeah?”
“Thanks, Eds.” You whispered. You’ve showered at his house mutual times but this time felt more personal. As soon as you got into the shower, you immediately lost it and started sobbing into your hands.
After about twenty minutes in the shower, you put on Eddie’s clothes and gazed at yourself in the mirror. There was just something that looked so right about you wearing his baggy clothes. You slowly brought up the collar of the t-shirt and inhaled it. It smelled just like him, and that brought you a tiny amount of comfort. You exited the bathroom and went back into Eddie’s room to see him still laying on his bed watching a movie on the television. He looked over and saw you standing there, patting on the side of the bed next to him. Your side.
“I knew I shouldn’t have gone out with him.” You groaned as you plopped down on the bed.
“Did he…” Eddie began before you quickly cut him off.
“No. No. I got away before anything else could happen.” You sounded relieved, as did Eddie. “Eddie…” You whispered, turning your head to the side to look at him.
“Hm?” He whispered back, looking back at you.
“Remember when Steve and I broke up and I came here and kissed you?”
“I do.” Eddie nodded.
“I should’ve done that sooner.” You whispered, not even sure if Eddie could hear you. “I’ve gone out with all these bullshit guys, just to try to get over you.”
“Over me?” Eddie questioned, to which you nodded. “You like me?”
“Of course I do, Eddie,” You scoffed, feeling stupid. “I’ve literally been in love with you since the first time I saw you. I can’t pretend anymore. My heart beats for you and only you. Pretending that I’m not in love with you… it’s killing me.”
Eddie’s hand slowly slid over to your side of the bed, on top of your hand that was lying by your side. You turn your hand over to invite his fingers to interlock with yours, which he does. He gazes at you with loving eyes as his fingers begin to play with yours.
“Please say something.” You whispered.
“You’re my best friend, Mayfield. You are… everything. I was a pussy for not saying anything but I just loved you too much, I was scared. I was scared to lose you. I love you in every sense of the word. I don’t think I can love you any more than I already do. My beautiful girl” Eddie smiled down at you while caressing your cheek.
“You love me?” A tear escaped your eye.
“Don’t be so surprised.” Eddie chucked at you before leaning down and planting a gentle kiss on your lips. You didn’t hesitate to immediately kiss him back. You haven’t felt his kiss in so long but it immediately felt like home.
As things became more heated, you whimpered as he slipped his tongue in your mouth. A classic Munson move.
“You alright, baby?” Eddie questioned because of your reaction.
“I’m more than okay,” You smiled into the kiss. Eddie readjusted himself as he climbed on top of you, to get better leverage while kissing you. You whimpered to yourself as Eddie’s lips left yours. His lips were all over your face. All over your cheeks, your forehead, even your nose. He couldn’t get enough of your face.
When he was pleased with the work he did on your face, his lips began to travel south. He licked and sucked on your neck, obviously leaving hickeys. You were Eddie’s and everyone was going to know it.
“Fuck, Eds,” you groaned as he continued to mark his territory. You began to squirm under his touch, everything on your body becoming way too sensitive. He had barely touched you and you were already coming undone underneath him.
“What do you need, sweetheart?” Eddie taunted above you, knowing exactly what you needed. He lifted his shirt off your body and lucky enough, you weren’t wearing a bra.
“Need you to touch me.” You gasped as his warm mouth made contact with your nipple.
“Christ, Mayfield. You were hiding these from me this whole time?” Eddie continued to taunt. He was repeating the licking and sucking he had performed on your neck but on both of your nipples. While his mouth was attached to one nipple, he was rolling the other one with his thumb and forefinger. He wanted to make sure they were getting the same amount of attention. As he licked, sucked, and bit, you were trying your hardest to grind into him to relieve your throbbing clit. Everytime your hips bucked up, Eddie would back away slightly leaving him out of touch.
“Tsk tsk,” Eddie smirked. “You gotta be patient, baby. I’ll take care of you.” His hand returned to your face and cupped your cheeks as he gave you a filthy kiss filled with lust.
Eddie continued to kiss down your body until he reached the band of his sweatpants. He placed a wet kiss right above the band of his sweatpants and used his fingers to play with the band.
“Can I?” Eddie asked to which you nodded. “I need you to talk, princess.”
“Yes, please take them off.” You groaned in frustration. Eddie took the band of his sweatpants in his teeth and slowly dragged them down exposing the lacey pair of underwear you had worn for your date tonight. You didn’t even wear the underwear for Jason. You just wanted to wear them for yourself.
“Fuck,” you heard Eddie groan under his breath over your clothed cunt. Eddie lazily dragged his fingers down your clothed slit, smirking at the sight of you squirming. He lowered his face near your core when your breath hitched.
“I’ve never-” you began, watching Eddie slowly raise his head.
“You’re telling me that Steve never ate you out?” Eddie asked, almost angrily. You shook your head no. “That’s just not gonna do, princess. Do you trust me?”
“With my life, Eds.” You whispered. As soon as those words left your mouth, Eddie leaned down and planted a light kiss right over your clothed clit. If you weren’t so turned on, you may not have been able to feel it.
You bucked your hips as Eddie reached for the band of your underwear and slowly shimmed them down your body and he placed them right into the pocket of his pajama pants. “Jesus Christ,” he groaned to himself at the sight of your bare pussy. “You’re so wet. All this for me?” Eddie taunted.
“I’m always this wet for you, Munson.” You moaned. That’s all it took for Eddie to lay back down on the bed and start kissing up your thighs. The feeling of his rings wrapped around your upper thighs were enough to make you shiver. After he had kissed his way up your thighs, he flattened his tongue against your hole and licked from your hole to your throbbing clit. The initial contact between his tongue and your clit was enough to make you moan, the loudest you’ve ever moaned.
“God you taste so good, baby.” Eddie moaned into your cunt. “I could eat you for breakfast, lunch and dinner.” He continued to swirl his tongue around your clit as he slowly slid a finger inside of you, pumping it in and out. Your back immediately lifted off the bed as you began to grind on Eddie’s face.
“I’ve waited so long to hear you moan for me, baby.” Eddie groaned. The vibrations of him talking added to the pressure he was already applying to your clit.
“Just like that, fuck, you feel so good inside me, Eds.” You were able to gasp through your moans. If you listened closely enough, you were able to hear Eddie moaning too, desperately. The sounds of Eddie moaning mixed with the feeling of his tongue and his fingers were enough to push you over the edge. Eddie could feel you clench around his fingers, a sign that you were close. As his one hand was busy working you towards an orgasm, his other hand slowly reached up and interlaced his fingers with yours.
“Fuck, I’m gonna cum. I’m gonna-” you cried out before the cord in your lower belly snapped, causing you to orgasm all over Eddie’s face.
“Atta girl.” Eddie coached you as you continued to ride out your high on your face. When he lifted his face, his lips and nose were shiny, covered in you. “That was the fucking hottest thing I’ve ever done.” Eddie quickly moved back up the bed and showered you in kisses. The taste of cigarettes plus the faint taste of you on his tongue was enough to make you cum again.
You reached down and briefly touched Eddie’s throbbing cock through his sweatpants. “Your turn, my love.”
“I’m not one to turn down a blowjob, but if I don’t get to fuck you right now, I’m actually going to lose my mind.” Eddie laughed as he continued kissing you. You laid back in the bed as you watched him take off his sweatpants and his boxers. Your eyes almost fell out of your head because of how big he was.
“Fuck, Eddie.” You had to stop yourself from drooling at the sight of him. His throbbing cock was dripping with beads of precum, anxiously waiting to be inside of you. Eddie reached to his nightstand and brought out a condom before rolling it on his cock.
He leaned over you and placed a sloppy kiss on your lips. He took his cock in his hands and started lazily trailing it up your slit and resting the tip right on your clit, causing you to whimper.
“Eddie if you don’t fuck me right now I’m gonna hit you,” you groaned frustrated. You felt so empty and all you wanted was to feel him slam into you.
“Such a dirty girl. You just can’t wait for my cock, huh?” Eddie teased.
“I just want you so bad. I’ve always wanted you.” You grabbed his face and roughly kissed him, and he took that as the opportunity to slowly push himself into you. Your open mouth kiss quickly turned into a moan as you felt yourself trying to adjust to his length.
“You alright, princess?” Eddie whispered.
“Yes. God, you’re so big. Biggest cock in Hawkins.” You kissed him more as he continued to push into you. Eddie continued to push into you as you cried out.
“Alright, sweetheart. You’ve got all of me.” Eddie groaned as he started to slowly move in and out. As he started to move out, you wrapped your legs around his waist, not wanting him to go anywhere.
“Christ, Eddie. Can’t believe I’ve been missing out on this,” you groaned as you started to leave scratches up and down his back. Every time your nails would scrape his skin, he would filthily moan into your mouth. You whimpered every time his guitar necklace would dangle and tickle your neck. The two of you just kept making the dirtiest noises, and neither of you could get enough.
“This is so fucking embarassing, but I’m not gonna last much longer.” Eddie moaned into your mouth as his pace began to quicken.
“It’s okay, Eds. Me too.” You whimpered as Eddie continuously hit your g-spot. As he got closer, he reached down and started rubbing circles around your clit, causing you to tightly clench around his length.
“I’m gonna cum, baby.” Eddie groaned and at the same exact time, you came around his cock. As he was still inside you, his forehead gently laid on top of yours. His bangs stuck to the sweat that was dripping down your forehead.
“That was…” You started.
“Incredible.” He finished. He slowly pulled himself out of you, causing you to shiver because of how sensitive you were. Eddie rolled next to you to catch his breath for a moment. “I’ll be right back.” He kissed you on the forehead before rolling out of bed and grabbing you a change of clothes and a wet washcloth.
“Here… let me,” Eddie softly said while spreading your legs open and cleaning you off with the wash cloth. No man has ever done this for you before and it makes your heart feel so full. “I left your change of clothes in the bathroom. Go get changed and I’ll get us a snack.” He placed a kiss on your lips before leaving the room to go to the kitchen.
All you could do was lay in his bed and smile like a fucking idiot.
***
It’s been three years since you and Eddie professed your love for one another. You expected these years to go differently, but every year was another challenge. Hawkins had become cursed. Monsters roamed the town that you called home. Your friend, Barb, was killed. You watched as Billy was impaled by a gigantic monster in the middle of the mall. And now your sister was being targeted by a powerful wizard, whom we cannot see. Max was only being targeted after Vecna had killed Chrissy.
Chrissy was truly struggling, so you offered for her to come over Eddie’s house to smoke and help get her mind off of everything. Since you and Eddie became a couple, you were able to mend your relationships with Chrissy, Steve and even Nancy. All that mattered was that you and Eddie had each other. But now that Chrissy was killed in Eddie’s trailer, the entire town of Hawkins had labeled Eddie as a “Satanic Murderer”.
You had spent the entire week in hiding with Eddie. You’d rather the town label you as a Satanic Murderer than leave Eddie alone. It had been an exhausting week, but you had been hopeful that the group would find a solution.
The two of you spent the week reminiscing on your years together, even when you two were just friends. The nights you would spend over at his trailer, sprawled out on Eddie’s bed looking at him with nothing but pure love in your eyes as he strummed on his guitar. The time the two of you volunteered at the Snowball dance for the kids. The Christmases you would spend at the Munson trailer with Eddie and Wayne where it would end with Eddie mercilessly beating you in a snowball fight.
The only solution anyone could come up with was that you all had to go to the Upside Down yourselves to kill Vecna. There was no other way.
You kissed Max on the forehead as she made her way into the Creel House. “I love you, Max. I’ll see you soon, alright?” You had to stop the tears from escaping your eyes. “Lucas… take care of her.” You hugged Lucas as they left the RV that Eddie stole.
The plan was that Steve, Robin, and Nancy were to go to the Creel House in the Upside Down to kill Vecna. You stuck with Eddie and Dustin, as you were all tasked with creating a diversion for the demobats.
Eddie and Dustin set up an amp on the top of Eddie’s trailer so he could play his guitar to lure the bats right to us. As he played, you sat next to Dustin with tears in your eyes. A part of you was completely fucking terrified. In the distance, you saw the bats start to fly towards the trailer.
“Let’s go!” You yelled at Dustin and Eddie as you jumped off the top of the trailer. Dustin and Eddie followed right after you. As the three of you were safely in the trailer, the group of you jumped up and down, celebrating how badass that was.
You hugged Dustin and then latched your arms around Eddie’s neck, tightly. Never wanting to let him go.
“Alright, let’s get out of here.” Dustin said, grabbing on to the rope before stopping. There was a weird noise coming from the back of the trailer.
“What’s that?” You questioned, before bats started letting themselves into the trailer one by one. The three of you must’ve missed something while you were protecting the trailer.
“Shit! Dustin, go!” You screamed at Dustin as he climbed up the rope and flipped upside down on Eddie’s bed.
“Go, baby! I’m right behind you!” Eddie handed you the rope and rubbed the bottom of your back as he nudged you up the rope. Your muscles burned as you pulled yourself up but then you flipped over on Eddie’s bed, right next to Dustin. You pushed yourself up to see Eddie just standing there, his gaze moving from the gate to the bats.
“Eddie?” You whimpered, unsure what he was doing.
“EDDIE! COME ON!” Dustin yelled, his hands on his head in distress.
Eddie looked us through the gate before making direct eye contact with me, “I’m sorry.” He lifted his makeshift weapon and used it to cut the rope down, destroying the tether from our world to the Upside Down.
“Eddie, no.” Your voice was barely above a whisper. You didn’t know what he was doing.
“EDDIE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? NO!” Dustin continued to yell.
“I’m buying more time.” Eddie said before moving the other mattress out of the way and running out of the trailer. Your blood had run cold, your eyes unable to focus on what was happening. Dustin was trying to find a ladder or something he could use to jump through the gate.
“Dustin, you need to hoist me up there. And then you need to go.” You grabbed Dustin by the shoulders, trying to get him to pay attention.
“No,” Dustin whimpered.
“DUSTIN! You need to get me up there!” You raised your voice, immediately feeling guilty. You had never raised your voice at Dustin. He was like your little brother.
“Okay, okay. On three.” Dustin sadly shook his head and began to count up to three.
One…Two…Three…
You jumped on Dustin’s hands as they pushed you up to the gate. Your hands had grabbed onto the gate, enough for you to push yourself through. After mustering up the strength, you were able to push yourself enough that you fell right through, right onto the hard floor of Eddie’s trailer.
“FUCK,” you screamed in pain. You had clearly landed on your ankle wrong, but that didn’t matter to you. You needed to find Eddie. Dustin was shouting your name from the other side but you paid no attention to him as you ran out of the trailer and into the Upside Down.
You burst through the doors and looked all around, about half a mile away, a herd of demobats surrounded Eddie. He was laying on the ground, trying to fight them off but obviously failing.
“HEY! OVER HERE! COME AND GET ME!” You screamed loud enough to get the bats attention. You started banging on every gate you could to get them to get off of Eddie. As the bats started to fly towards you, all you could see was that Eddie wasn’t moving.
Just as the bats were about to get to you, they suddenly stopped in their path just to turn around and fly in the completely opposite direction. Most likely towards the Creel House. Towards Steve, Nancy, and Robin, but you didn’t care right now.
It took you a minute to limp over to Eddie, who still wasn’t moving.
“Eddie?” You whimpered, as you knelt down to him. His chest was moving up and down very slightly.
“There’s my beautiful girl.” He coughed out. Spurts of blood dribbled on his chin as he coughed.
“We have to get you out of here, Eds.” You tried to stay calm and lift him up. He was completely limp and you weren’t strong enough to lift him on your own. “Can you move?” All he did was shake his head.
“I…I didn’t run away, right? I just wanted to help.” He asked with tears in his eyes causing you to almost lose it.
“No, sweetheart. You didn't run.” You caressed his cheeks in your hands and wiped his tears with your thumb.
“I love you so much. I’m gonna miss you,” Eddie whimpered before turning his head slightly to kiss your hand. This is when you just let your tears come out. There’s no point in trying to fight them anymore.
“I will love you for the rest of my life, Eddie Munson.” You closed your eyes and knelt down to plant a soft kiss on Eddie’s lips. When you lifted your head, you noticed he wasn’t moving. He wasn’t blinking. He wasn’t Eddie, not anymore.
“Eddie?” You whispered, as you started to shake him slightly. He still wasn’t moving. Sobs started to escape your mouth as you didn’t have the strength to hold them in anymore. You held his head in your hands, slightly closing his eyes to make it look like he was sleeping. Eddie was always so pretty when he slept.
Steve, Nancy, and Robin started running towards you screaming that you had to go. They stopped dead in their tracks as they realized what had happened.
Nancy and Robin stood there with their hands covering their mouths. Steve came running over to you and crouched next to you and whispered your name, “We have to go.”
“I can’t leave him here. I can’t leave him here!” You sobbed onto Eddie’s shirt. Steve didn’t have the choice but to pick you up and throw you over his shoulder as you screamed and cried.
“NO! STEVE! PUT ME DOWN! NO! EDDIE!” You screamed and sobbed and choked. As Steve walked back to the trailer, the vision of Eddie laying in the middle of the trailer park became more and more faint. You had just left him there. The love of your life. The bane of your existence.
***
The worst part about mourning Eddie is that you couldn’t mourn him. Though most of Hawkins was in ruins, everyone was celebrating the fact that Eddie Munson was presumed dead. The town was relieved to know that such a scary man had perished in the “earthquake” that shook the town. No one knew that Eddie had died for them. He died to give Hawkins a chance at a better future.
You sat outside on a park bench in silence with Wayne Munson. Dustin had told him what happened a few days prior, but this was the first time you saw Wayne since Eddie died. As soon as he laid eyes on you, the two of you completely fell apart. You melted in his arms as you started to sob.
After your sobs started to subside, the two of you just sat in each other's presence. You started to reminisce on times you and Eddie shared together. Times you’ll never get back.
“Don’t you think it’s weird that we’ve only been friends for like, six months? I feel like we’ve been friends longer than that.” Eddie laughed after taking a hit of his joint. The two of you were extremely high and at this point, you would just say stupid shit to one another.
“It’s because we’re birds of a feather, Munson.” You laughed while looking over at him, eyes full of love, but he didn’t notice. Not yet.
“What the fuck is that?” He said, dumbfounded.
“It means we’re kind of like the same person. Platonic soulmates, if you will.” You smiled up at him.
“That’s really profound. I like that. But birds are annoying,” Eddie smiled, getting higher by the second. “Wait, that’s even better. If you see a bird outside, that’ll just be…like… an extension of me. They can annoy you when I’m not around.”
You laughed, “What do you mean ‘when you’re not around’? You’re up my ass 24/7.”
“You never know, sweetheart. I gotta keep you on your toes.” Eddie took another hit of his joint.
You snapped back into reality with a sad smile on your face. You’ll miss those small conversations with Eddie more than anything. Just as you focused back on the present, a small bird, a baby finch, landed right next to you on the bench. All it did was look up at you for a moment before it flew away. Eddie.

“Hey Red, you ready to head to the arcade!” Eddie walks right into the Mayfield trailer without knocking like he’d normally do when he was coming over to get Max and her mom wasn’t home.
Ever since Max was able to go home from the hospital with broken bones and partial blindness Eddie’s been there to keep her company every second he could. And once she was good enough to walk again he was there to help her get adjusted to her surroundings so she wasn’t always bumping into stuff she couldn’t see. Eddie took up the big brother role she never had and the two of them became thick as thieves. And as soon as her arms and hands were good enough Eddie decided that Wednesdays would be arcade days where even partially blind she beat his ass at games.
“You must be Eddie.” He freezes when he enters the living room and sees you sitting on the floor in front of the couch. His mind blanks as he watches you stand revealing your bare legs that were previously hidden beneath the coffee table.
“Um, yeah that’s me. Sorry but who’re you?” You look familiar and he has a feeling that he’s definitely seen you before and that would explain why you were sitting in Max’s living room in your pajamas but he couldn’t figure it out for the life of him.
“I’m Max’s sister, Y/n.” You step closer to him and can almost physically see the light bulb go on in his head. “I’ve heard a lot about you Eddie.” You beg yourself to keep it together and choke back the grateful tears that want to well up in your eyes.
“Hope it was all good things.” One of his hands rubs the back of his neck and he lets out a nervous chuckle while his other reaches out for you to shake. You can feel the urge to cry crawling and clawing its way up your throat so you’re quick to grab his hand and pull him into a hug leaving your tearful face hidden in his chest.
“Thank you.” At hearing how shaky your voice is Eddie doesn’t even think about it before he’s wrapping his arms tight around you. “Thank you for taking such good care of her when I couldn’t.”
There’s no way Eddie could know how incredibly grateful you are that he’s been there for Max after the accident. You’re still not even completely sure how it happened, all you know is that the minute your mom called to let you know she was in the hospital you were ready to leave everything in Cali, your friends, school, your job, behind to be by her side. If it wasn’t for your mom reminding you that Max would want you to finish getting your degree and promising to constantly call you with updates you would’ve. You spent every minute then working on finishing your degree going as far as to overload your course load and taking summer courses, sure it meant you haven’t been able to come home to Max and see her but it meant you’d be able to move to Hawkins to be with her permanently sooner.
“It really isn’t that big of a deal, she’s cool and fun to be around, but you’re welcome.”
“Eddie, did I hear you come in?” Max comes into the room and the two of you break apart. You’re quick to wipe your face dry before Max can get close enough to see the damage but he does see it. And immediately he can tell how much your sister means to you.
“Yeah Red, you still wanna go to the arcade? I didn’t realize your sister was in town.”
“She’s been hovering over me like I’m made of glass.” She groans in a playful way as she makes her way over to the two of you slower than she would’ve before she lost most of her sight. “She’s here for good now so it doesn’t matter if we go to the arcade.”
“Do you want me to come with you?” You ask her after putting your arm around her shoulder and bringing her close to your side. Eddie wants to tell you yes seeing the want to come in your eyes but keeps his mouth shut leaving it up to Max.
“No, you can come next time or something but you have to start looking for a job so you can get out of my hair.” You roll your eyes at her.
“You’re right, where are your glasses?” Max groans again for real this time and moves away from you and closer to Eddie.
“Don’t make me wear those, they make me look like a nerd. They don’t even help!”
“That’s a lie and you know it! You bump into things way less when you have them on.” You point an accusatory finger at her before putting your hands on your hips and pursing your lips. Eddie can’t help but think you look like a mom at this moment. Which makes him wonder if you had helped raise her growing up knowing how absent her mom is now.
“Fine. I hate when you go all older sibling mode on me. They’re in my room, can you get them for me?” Your face softens and you nod before walking away. “C’mon Eddie lets go before she comes back.”
“Nuh uh, no way. I didn’t even know you had glasses to help you see.” If he did he would’ve been making sure she was wearing them himself all this time.
“They’re Coke bottles Eddie!”
“Don’t care Red. Maybe they’ll prevent that headache you get from straining your eyes too much.” Every week after they’d get back from the arcade she’d have a migraine and Eddie’s been getting suspicious that the headaches start while they’re there but she’s so stubborn that she doesn’t tell him because he’ll decide it's time to leave.
“Found them!” You enter the room again and put them on Max’s face for her.
“They aren’t that bad.” They’re thick for sure, like magnifying glasses, but Eddie’s definitely seen thicker on some of his old classmates. “They only make you look a little bit like a nerd.”
“Shut up, she doesn’t look like a nerd. You look so cool Maxy!” You shove Eddie with your shoulder as if you’ve known each other forever.
“C’mon Eddie let’s go. Bye Y/n!”
“Bye Max, love you!”
“So,” Eddie starts later at the diner he always takes Max to after the arcade, “your sister seems cool.”
“Yeah she’s pretty great.” She shrugs and takes another bite of her burger. “Fifty bucks says you’re gonna fall in love with her by the time summer's up.” He chokes on his coke mid sip.
“What?!”
“Just saying, she’s amazing and you’re not even gonna know what to do with yourself when you actually get to know her. And you’ll be spending a lot of time with her this summer since you’re always around now.”
“What about that makes you think I’m gonna fall in love with her?”
“Well for one, pretty girls make you weak and she’s incredibly pretty, it comes with the California air.” Eddie wants to argue that you’re way more than just pretty but bites his tongue not wanting Max to think she was right. “Two she’s got one hell of a music taste. Same goes for her taste in movies even though if she makes me rewatch one more Muppet movie I’ll scream.”
“I doubt you’ve had to watch that many.” Eddie laughs at how distraught Max looks at the thought of watching another one.
“Eddie you don’t understand, she hasn’t even been here for a week and she’s rewatched them all twice. She’s got this thing where like anything Jim Henson works on instantly becomes one of her favorites.”
“He’s the guy who worked on that movie Labyrinth that came out a while ago right?”
“Yeah, though I don’t think she’s seen that one yet. She hasn’t really done much of anything other than school and work since I was in the hospital so I don’t even think she remembers it came out.”
“Sounds like we should have a movie night.”
“See you’re already planning to do stuff that’ll make her happy! Just wait, I’m telling you Eds when you get to know her you’ll be absolutely smitten.” Eddie just shakes his head at the girl in front of him ignoring the tugging feeling in his gut that she might be right.
“Oh! Hello again Eddie!” You beam at him after you open the door to the trailer and he takes in your apparel of distressed shorts and striped shirt. “Max isn’t here, mom took her for her check up at the doctors.”
“I know, we talked about doing a movie night and I thought maybe you’d wanna get out of the house and come with me to pick up the movie.” Eddie kicks at a rock by his feet suddenly getting nervous about coming over here to ask. The feeling doesn’t last for long though because you almost immediately light up at the offer nodding enthusiastically.
“I’d like that. Give me one second.” You hold up a finger before disappearing into the trailer leaving the door wide open. It’s not long before you’re rushing back sandals in hand and locking the door behind you. “Lead the way Eddie boy!”
“How have you been enjoying Hawkins so far?” Eddie asks as he walks towards his van, you following close behind.
“It’s alright. I haven’t actually been to many places yet. Just the hospital and the middle school. I’ve been meaning to check out the arcade though.” You hop into the passenger seat after he holds the door open for you.
“Well maybe you can come with us on Wednesday. Maybe I’ll finally beat a Mayfield for once.” He responds after getting in the driver's seat and starting the van up. You laugh and look away from the sandals you’re strapping to your feet at him. His heart skips a beat at the sound immediately wanting to hear it again.
“You can dream but I was the one who taught Max everything she knows. If you can’t beat her, you definitely won’t beat me.”
“That sounds like a challenge.” He glances at you from the corner of his eye in time to see you shrug.
“Take it whatever way you want, big guy.”
“Big guy?” Eddie chuckles at the nickname. He was never really a big guy growing up or even now so it’s odd hearing someone reference him as that.
“Yeah, you’re tall, a little broad, and I’m sure you’re strong. Do you want me to call you something else?”
“No big guy is fine.” You smile down at your feet as you finish strapping the other sandal to your left foot. “Did you move here with Max and then go back to California?”
“No. I was in my senior year when they moved and since I didn’t want to have to move in my last year and I was almost eighteen mom let me stay behind with dad. And then I went to college over there with my friends instead of coming here because I knew the area already.” Eddie parks in front of the store and the two of you get out. “I’ve come here to visit a few times but after the accident Max was in I never had the time to come because I did extra courses each term and did summer classes so I could finish sooner and come home to be with her.” You continue explaining on the short walk into the building.
“Welcome to Family Video can I help- is that you Mayfield?” You look up to find Steve behind the counter and smile at him.
“Sure is Harrington! You miss me?”
“Are you kidding? Of course!”
“I’ll grab the movie and meet you back here.” You nod to Eddie and he takes one more glance at the excited look on Steve’s face as he makes his way around the counter and towards you before walking away.
“What are you doing here?” You take a few steps further into the store to meet Steve halfway and bring him into a hug.
“I’m here for good now. I finally finished my degree.”
“That’s awesome! Do you have a job lined up yet?”
“I left my application at the high school and middle school so I’m just waiting to see if they’ll call. But I don’t know what I’ll do if they don’t.”
“I’m sure they will, we had a lot of teachers leave Hawkins after the earthquake. Dustin was telling me that they had gym teachers trying to teach science.”
“Look who I found roaming the shelves!”
“Y/n, you remember Robin right?”
“Of course, hi!” You wave to her before turning your attention to Eddie. “So what did you pick?”
“The Labyrinth.” You let out an elated gasp before taking the movie from his hands to make sure you weren’t getting punked.
“No way. I’ve been meaning to watch this since it came out but I’ve been so busy.”
“Yeah, Max may have mentioned how much you love Jim Henson and that she wasn’t sure you’ve seen this yet.” Eddie rubs the back of his neck with a sheepish smile on his face and you look up beaming at him. The next thing he knows you’re wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him into an excited hug where he can basically feel you vibrating with it. The hug doesn’t last long, he doesn’t even have time to wrap his own arms around you before you’re pulling away and putting it on the counter for Steve to ring up.
“On the house, think of it as a welcome back present.” He just pushes it back to you before grabbing the other box of movies that needs to be put on shelves and giving it to Robin.
“Oh, thanks Steve! We should hang out sometime soon. I don’t really leave the trailer so you could just stop by whenever or give me a call and we could do something.”
“That sounds good, I’ll come by on my next day off. Which will probably be Monday.” He leans on the counter as he answers and you grab the movie from in front of him.
“See you then! Come on Eddie, Max should be on her way home soon.” You grab his hand on your way out and give a backwards wave with the movie to Steve as you pull him with you out the door. “We should get a pizza. I doubt anything here will be as good as Surfer Boy out in Cali but you can’t do a movie night without it.”
“That’s a great idea Sweetheart.” Eddie can’t tear his eyes away from your joined hands until you split off to go to the passengers side of the van and you have a hard time suppressing the butterflies in your stomach at the sudden nickname.
“I’m home! Mom’s not, she dropped me off and went straight to work.” Max announces herself getting yours and Eddie's attention in the kitchen. As soon as it registers in your head that she’s back you abandon your spot at the counter making lemonade to greet her.
“What’d the doctors say this visit?”
“Just that my bones have healed nicely and checked my reflexes like always.” She shrugs as she kicks off her shoes.
“What about your eyesight?”
“It’s not better but it’s not worse either. The same it’s been since I got out of the hospital. Do I smell pizza?” It’s her desperate attempt to change the subject. Max hates answering these types of questions because it doesn’t matter what they say or how often she wears those stupid glasses her sight will never get better than it is now. And she should just enjoy what little she has of it left because when she first broke out of Vecna's trance she thought she was completely blind.
“Yeah, we picked one up after getting the movie. Eddie’s here by the way.” You let the subject change, wanting to know everything and nothing all at the same time.
“Oh is he now?” There’s a lilt to her voice that you’re not used to hearing but don’t focus on it as she beelines for where she hears him moving around in the kitchen probably finishing the lemonade you left unfinished. You let her go off to the kitchen by herself and take her distraction with Eddie as an opportunity to move the couch a little bit closer to the tv so she’ll be able to see a little better.
“Don’t say anything.” Eddie says after taking one look at the redhead who just joined him in the kitchen.
“I wasn’t gonna say anything.”
“Mhm sure, then why do you look like you have something to say?”
“I don’t know.” She shrugs and there’s a pause while he finishes mixing the batch of lemonade that has too much sugar in it. “It’s just that you going to get the movie and pizza with her gives you lots of free time to get to know my sister. I wonder why you would do that.” She taps her chin in mock thought and Eddie groans before a thought pops into his head.
“How does she know Steve?” He meant to ask you earlier after leaving Family Video but got distracted when you started talking about what toppings should go on the pizza. His question, or rather how he asked it, causes Max to let out a laugh.
“That’s for you to find out I suppose.” She joins you back in the living room then where you’re too focused on putting the movie in and setting up the pizza boxes on the small table in front of the couch to pay attention to what they’re talking about. Eddie’s left there once more with the lemonade not waiting long to join the two of you with the plastic pitcher in hand.
The rest of the weekend Eddie spends over your place hanging out with Max and getting to know you better. Most of the time he found a way to rope you into whatever they ended up doing so he’d have an excuse to talk to you while ignoring the jumping eyebrows and smirks Max kept shooting his way. The more time he spends around you the more he feels that Max may have been right and he might be out fifty dollars at the end of summer. But as much as he wants to prove her wrong for once, because somehow Max is always right, you’re too cool for him to want to pull away from.
So he decided to let Max be right about this and hope that maybe when you get to know him you’ll like him just as much. That thought is what led him to your door Monday morning when he knew Max was out with the rest of the kids. He knocks instead of walking straight in, like he normally would, not wanting to make you uncomfortable in your own space.
“Coming! You got here really fast, didn’t we like just hang up?” You open the door while trying to shove your sneaker on with one hand and when you look up to find Eddie standing there shock takes over your face. “Oh hey Eddie, Max won’t be home till later.”
“No, I know. I uh, I was coming over for you. To um, see if you wanted to maybe hangout.” He stumbles over his words and he wants to bang his head against a wall. You smile at that, your insides warming up at Eddie wanting to spend time with just you.
“That sounds great Eddie but, I actually have plans with Steve.” Eddie’s heart falls into his stomach like a rock.
“I’ll head back home then. Have a good time!” He waves as he turns around and starts walking back across the street to his trailer.
“Eddie, wait!” Your hand on his wrist causes him to turn to face you and he notices immediately that you left the door wide open. He wonders if you even noticed you do that. Because it’s something he noticed almost immediately after being around you as much as he has been this weekend. You’re always leaving the door open or shutting it with your keys still inside it. If he was the last one in, he would double check to make sure they weren’t still in the door.
“Do you wanna come with us?” Your voice brings his attention back to your face.
“I don’t wanna intrude.” Especially if it was supposed to be a date.
“You wouldn’t be. We’re just going to see the new Friday the Thirteenth movie. And honestly it’d be nice to not have to third wheel Steve and Robin.” You knew they weren’t together, but they were truly platonic soulmates and being with just the two of them was awkward sometimes once they started doing their weird conversing without really talking thing.
“Robin’s going too?” So definitely not a date then.
“Well yeah, aren’t they always like a package deal?” Maybe you were wrong but the few times you’ve been here and around them they were always together.
“You’re right, as I’m starting to learn you always are.” A trait he can only guess Max got from you and has him wondering yet again how involved you were in raising her.
“So do you wanna come?”
“Yeah, sounds like a good time.” Your smile lights up your face at his agreement and he knows he would agree to anything if it meant he got to see it happen again. “Do you need anything else from inside?”
“No. Why?” You squint your eyes and tilt your head wondering why he could be asking.
“You left the door open.” You follow his head nod toward the front of your trailer and let out a soft ‘oh’ before heading back over to shut and lock it. Steve pulls up just as you pull the key out of the lock.
“Hey Ed boy! You coming with us?” Robin sticks her head, but really more like the upper half of her body, out the window to talk to Eddie. He turns and starts a conversation with her and Steve when he leans forward to see around his best friend. Meanwhile you freeze a little on your way to the car. You knew Robin was coming, but somehow didn’t realize that meant you’d be sitting in the back seat.
“You sure you don’t want me to drive Steve? That way you don’t have to worry about bringing me home later or anything.”
“No, it’s fine I’m used to driving everyone around.” Steve says this with a smile on his face and absolutely zero malice in his voice. If there’s one thing you know about Steve Harrington from the few times you’ve gotten to know him over the years it was that he likes taking care of the people he loves. Eddie however unlike his friend noticed the hesitance in your voice and your walk up to the car.
“I can drive you if you want Sweetheart. I was going to drive myself anyway.” He wasn’t. “I gotta stop at the store for some more milk after the movie.” He didn’t, he and Wayne still had an almost full gallon in the fridge.
“That’s perfect actually because Max asked me to grab more Pop Tarts or cereal at some point today. Do you care if I go with Eddie, Steve?”
“Nah, we’ll meet you guys there then?”
“Yep!” He gives a wave before driving off leaving you with Eddie again.
“Come on darlin’ let's roll.” Eddie takes his keys out of his pocket and swings them around his finger before leading the way across the street to his van. He doesn’t let it show how relieved he is that they didn’t fly off and hit him in the face again and that he got to look cool in front of you.
“Thanks for driving me, big guy.” He holds the door open for you and you pat his cheek as you climb in in thanks, something you would do with your friends in California if they weren’t comfortable with cheek kisses.
“It’s no problem really.” He closes the door once you’re fully seated and makes his way over to his side. “So how come you didn’t want Steve to drive you?” He asks as he backs out of his spot. You’re momentarily stunned at how good he looks while doing it. Your eyes trail from the hand that’s resting on your seat up his arm until your eyes meet his concentrated face.
“It’s not so much that I didn't want him to drive. I just get carsick when I’m in the back sometimes and it makes me nervous with people I’m not used to being in cars with. There’s just so many different variables that go into it like how big the car is, how they drive, how long I’m in the car for, etcetera.” You’re silent for a minute before panicky turning to face Eddie. “Oh God do you think Steve caught on that I didn’t wanna get in the car with him? He probably got the wrong idea completely.”
“Hey, calm down sugar.” His hand goes to your knee without thinking and the warmth of it on your bare skin helps to calm you. Unconsciously your own hand lays on top of his to keep it there. “Steve’s smart but he’s not the best at reading people all the time. If you want I can find a way to bring up car sickness in some way so you can say you have it?”
“No, it’s fine I’ll just see if he brings it up and then explain it. Thank you though, it’s so sweet of you to offer to do that for me.”
“Of course! And if you want I can just be your permanent chauffeur and make sure you always get shotgun when you aren’t driving.” He’s definitely offering so he gets to spend even more time with you.
“That would be great!” You’re definitely agreeing to spend more time with him too. “Thanks again Eddie.” This time you do kiss him on the cheek in thanks but turn your head towards the window before you can see him start to glow pink. In your lap your hands twine together like your bodies already know that the two of you should be together before your brains do.
“So how do you know Steve?” Eddie finally asks the question that he’s been dying to over pizza after the movie with his arm draped over the back end of the booth the two of you are sharing.
“Oh, I met him years ago when I came home for the first summer after they moved.”
“She was so excited after everything Max told her about me that she flung herself into my arms.” Steve chimes in, pointing a fry in your direction as he says it.
“I did not fling myself into your arms.” You laugh as you speak. “It was sorta similar to how we met Eddie. I brought him into a hug and thanked him for sticking up for Max and beating up Billy before asking him all about what it was like.”
“I’m sure he forgot to bring up how Billy ended up getting the upper hand in the end.” Robin adds getting a betrayed look from Steve because he did in fact withhold that information from you.
“Oh he definitely did but Max had already told me that and how she then saved him by knocking Billy out with some drug. But I didn’t wanna bruise his ego or anything so I let it go.” You shrug and look back over at Eddie. “And then I met Robin when I visited the summer that the mall burned down except I got here after it happened. And admittedly haven’t been around much since, just a week or so here and there before like radio silence for two years.”
“Yeah, not even a phone call or anything, Mike was giving us updates as much as Max was with what he got from Will or El.”
“Were you close with Will and El?”
“I mean El became Max’s best friend so of course I got to know her and Will’s such a great kid it’s hard to not want to be close with them. They all moved into a neighborhood not far from my campus and I helped them get situated into their house and stopped by when I could to see how they were all doing or to hang out with Jonathan and Argyle.” You have to look away from Eddie as you speak because if he keeps looking at you like he wants to know every nook and cranny in you you fear you’ll do something drastic like kiss him.
“You should’ve been here when Eddie and Will met. They both completely freaked out.” Steve changes the subject from you at the mention of Will.
“Don’t even try to deny it, Ed boy.” Robin joins in interrupting Eddie as he opens his mouth to speak. “Will was so excited to meet the cool older dungeon master his friends always told him about. And Eddie was super psyched to meet zombie boy Will Byers who was just as into the game they play as he is.”
“I can totally see that.”
“When did you say Max was coming home Sweetheart?” Eddie leans closer to you the smallest bit as he asks. And Steve and Robin look at eachother with the latter mouthing the nickname to the former.
“Oh probably around like four or five. Why, what time is it?”
“Its…” he brings his wrist in front of him to check his watch and you lean over to have a look too, “almost three.”
“And we still have to make a stop at the store so you can get your milk. Do you think we should go now?”
“If you’re still planning on being home when she gets back we probably should.”
As the two of you talk Robin and Steve communicate in their weird best friend platonic soulmate way where they don’t talk about how the conversation is going. Steve motions over, look at this. Robin nods and widens her eyes, I know right, before making a motion with her hands and letting her lips quirk up, ir’s domestic as shit. Steve rubs two fingers together, wanna make a bet.
“Do you guys care if we get going?” You ask already standing up from the booth to let Eddie out.
“Not at all.” Robin pushes Steve out of the booth so she can hug you goodbye. “We should definitely do this again soon. And if we can’t meet up for a movie or anything you should stop by the store and I’ll show you my sweet setup in the back where I watch movies.”
“That sounds great!” You hug her back excited to have gotten to know her better. “I think that movie Willow comes out this friday, we could go see that if nothing comes up.”
“Perfect! Eddie has my number written down somewhere so he can give it to you later and you can give me a call or something.” You nod and take a step back to stand next to Eddie.
“Bye guys. Thanks again for pizza Steve.”
“No problem, see you around.” Eddie gives them a mock salute before grabbing your hand and leading the way out to the van.
“So what do you do, like for work?” You look back at Eddie over your shoulder as you grab a basket and lead the way further into the store.
“I work at the auto body shop in town, have been since my junior year of high school.” He blindly follows you through the store and down the cereal aisle as he answers.
“That’s cool.” You grab a box of Cap’n Crunch before thinking it over and grabbing a second one to add to the basket. “That mean I get a discount if my car starts acting up, since we’re becoming such great friends?” Eddie genuinely can’t tell if you’re flirting with him or not - you are - but it feels like it so he flirts back a red hue making its way to his cheeks.
“For you Sweetheart, it’s free. Gotta make sure you don’t go breaking down or anything.” He only gets a glimpse of the smile on your face when you turn to go down the next aisle. “What are you planning on doing for work?”
“I got my degree in teaching so I’m hoping that I get a call from one of the schools soon.”
“I’m sure you will. They’d be stupid not to, you’ll be a great teacher.”
“You think so?” You’ve got a bigger different type of smile on your face when you turn to face him, a box of brown cinnamon pop tarts in your hands.
“I know so. You’ve got this thing about you that screams trust me with your kids.” He spreads his hands out by his face in showmanship that earns him a laugh. He smiles at it and stuffs his hands into his pockets. “For real though, you have fun teacher vibes written all over you.”
“Thanks.” Heat rushes to your face at the compliment. It’s been your dream for what feels like forever to be a teacher and be able to be one of those people to help kids like so many of your past ones did for you. And as much as your mom and dad and friends have told you that you’d be great at it, something about Eddie saying it made you elated. It definitely wasn’t because of the not so small crush that’s started developing, no way. “Now let’s get that milk you need and head home.”
“Milk?” You miss the confused word as you turn around and lead the way out of the aisle. Eddie follows while trying to figure out why he would need to get milk when there was plenty at home to last them another couple days.
“Which kind do you and Wayne normally get?” Your question jogs his memory as he finally remembers using the whole ‘I have to go to the store so I was going to drive anyways’ excuse to get you into his van instead of Steve’s car.
“The blue one, whichever that is.”
“Do you mean two percent or do you mean skim?” Your eyebrows furrow in confusion as you open the fridge door to grab whichever he says.
“Whichever one is blue.” Eddie’s voice sounds distracted and when you look back at him you notice his attention drawn to a stray balloon floating up to the ceiling.
“Eddie.” An amused laugh escapes you and pulls his attention back to you. “They’re both blue. Do you not know what kind of milk you drink?”
“I know what kind of milk we drink, scoot.” His mock defensiveness and how he pushes you out of the way so it looks like he’s shoving but really it’s just a nudge causes you to let out a louder, longer laugh. Eddie has to fight with the goofy smile that wants to spread across his face so he can keep the act going. “See, it’s the blue one.” He brandishes a jug of milk with a dark blue lid and label triumphantly.
“Okay and what kind of milk is that?” Eddie goes to turn the jug around to read it. “Without looking.”
“Does it matter? If they wanted us to distinguish it by what type they are then they wouldn’t be color coded.” He huffs out in defeat before hooking his arm around your shoulder and steers you towards check out. “Don’t we have a little sister we gotta get you home to?”
“Oh, hi Eddie.” Max opens the door to greet him two days later. “I’m almost ready to go. Come in but be quiet because she’s on the phone.” She turns to head back to her room to finish getting all of her change together for the arcade and Eddie shuts the door behind him before heading into the living room. He notices you standing in the kitchen phone pressed against your ear. You look over at him as soon as he shows up and offer him a smile and wave before turning to face the wall to not get distracted by him. Eddie can tell it’s an important call by how you twirl the cord around your finger and keep a professional tone to your voice.
“Yeah, I can come by whatever time works best for you tomorrow.” A minute of silence while you listen to whoever is on the other line. “Okay, see you at two tomorrow. Bye.” You wait until the phone is hung back up on the wall before letting out a little happy yell and jumping up and down a couple times.
“Did you get it?” Max shows up next to Eddie looking excited and rushes to hug you when you nod and let out an excited ‘yes’. “I knew it!”
“What’s going on?”
“That was the principal of the high school, I have to go in tomorrow to see where I would fit best and go over a few things but I’m gonna teach next school year!”
“That’s amazing! I told you you would.” He takes a few steps towards you before you make your own way into his arms for a celebratory hug. “You’re gonna be a great teacher.” He whispers into your ear causing a shiver to travel down your spine. “You should come with us today to celebrate. We can stop by Family Video after the arcade so you can tell Steve and Robin about the good news.”
“That sounds perfect. Let me grab Max’s glasses and my rolls of quarters and we can go.” Max groans and rolls her eyes at the mention of her glasses while you rush off.
At the arcade Eddie mainly just watches while you and Max fight over breaking high scores and play against each other. But he’s not upset about it, it’s nice to see such a big smile on your face as you rub it in Max’s that you beat her score before she shoves you out of the way to try to get it back. And this is easily the liveliest he’s seen Max ever, sure she’s happy and excited when it’s just him and her but it’s another level now that she’s playing with you. He doesn’t even play anything, just leans on the machine behind the two of you watching as his favorite sister duo's bonds grow stronger.
He definitely likes that when Max takes the game over again you sometimes will lean into his side and rest your head on his shoulder.
“And once again I’m the Burgertime high score!” You cheer as you put your standard three letters in for the scoreboard.
“I’m not even gonna try to beat you this time, I know I won’t.” It had quickly become your favorite game since it showed up in the arcade in Cali in eighty two and you’ve had the high score since you got the hang of it. “How about Dig Dug next?” Max asks while squinting her eyes and rubbing her forehead briefly, a sign Eddie knows best as the start of an eye strain headache. You notice it too but before you can say anything he beats you to it.
“Last game Red, then we’re out of here before you give yourself a migraine.”
“But-”
“No ifs, buts, or coconuts. I can already tell it’s starting to bother you.”
“Y/n, back me up here.”
“Nope, Eddie’s right.” You twist your arm with his and grab onto his hand. “You’re getting all squinty eyed again and don’t think I missed you squeezing them shut while you were watching me play last. You’re lucky I don’t drag you out of here now.”
“God, who are you two my parents?” Max groans hating how the two of you are teaming up against her even if she knows you’re right and if she plays much longer she’ll need to rest basically the rest of the day. “Fine, we'll play Dig Dug and leave.” She walks away, turning into the next aisle of games and leaving you and Eddie in front of Burgertime.
“Thanks for looking out for her so much.” You squeeze his hand and smile up at him keeping your voice low and the conversation private. “You really have no idea what it means to me, and probably to her, that you care so much.”
“You don’t have to thank me for that Sweetheart. Caring for her, for both of you really, is like second nature to me.” Loving the two of you is second nature to him too, but he wouldn’t own up to that just yet. “Now come on if we lag behind for too long she’ll insist the game didn’t count and start to play another round.” He pulls you along heading straight for Max but all you can focus on is how your heart is fluttering at his soft tone and his inclusion of you in the sentence.
After Max dies you make Eddie take a turn before you do. You had noticed that he wasn’t even trying to have a turn for any of the other games and wanted to make sure he felt included and had fun. And after seeing how joyful Max was rubbing it in Eddie’s face that she beat him you may have let her keep the high score, dying with a hundred points to go to match her. But you’ll never tell and that’s exactly what you told Eddie on the way out when he asked if you let her win.
Two days later Eddie finds you sitting on the steps of your trailer with your head on your knees after getting home from work. He can tell by the way your shoulders are shaking that you’re crying and without a second thought crosses the road to comfort you however he can.
“Sweetheart?” His voice makes you freeze for a second before you peek up at him.
“Oh, hi Eddie. I didn’t realize it was late enough for you to be coming home.” You try to hastily wipe your tears away and pray that your voice isn’t too croaky or shaky and that the tears stop.
“Are you okay?” He doesn’t approach you carefully or slowly like you’re a rabbit that’ll run off if he gets too close, you get all of him all at once. One second you’re looking up and answering him and the next his body is sitting next to you, the step groaning under the two of you at the sudden addition. You barely even have time to take in his work get up, hair in a bun, tank top, and overalls tied at his waist. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s been a rough day in the Mayfield home.” You sniffle as you speak.
“Do you wanna talk about it?” He wants to wrap his arm around you so badly but doesn’t want to risk getting any grease on your clean clothes.
There’s a pause between the two of you as you think about it. You don’t want to talk about it but you know that holding it in won’t do you any good.
“It’s been a bad day for Max. She’s been bumping into stuff a lot more today and she was trying to read a book but couldn't get her eyes to actually focus on the words. Even with her glasses on. When I asked her if she wanted to go skating for a bit she started yelling and crying about how she can’t believe I would ask her that when I know she can’t do it anymore. And then she ran to shut herself in her room and I came out here.” You start crying again and Eddie decides fuck it if grease stains your clothes he’ll buy replacements and brings you into a side hug where you hide your face in his shoulder.
“Sorry you have to see me in such a mess, big guy.” You apologize after a few minutes.
“Don’t even worry about it, we’ve all been there.”
“I’m not even upset about her freaking out on me. I get it, she’s going through it y’know? She’s bound to have bad days with what she’s going through. It’s just having to see her go through all of it that gets me. That’s my little sister, I practically raised her, I’m supposed to help protect her. And now I have to watch her go through all this pain and I can’t even do anything about it. I just love her so much.” You let out a heart wrenching sob into his shoulder and his hold on you tightens.
“I’ve never been in your shoes here but I get it. It’s valid to be this distraught about it, so don’t feel bad for showing it.” He speaks into your hair before dropping a kiss to your head.
“Thanks Eddie.” You say once you’ve calmed down. Before you can start violently wiping the wetness from your face Eddie’s hands are there tenderly doing it for you.
“You don’t have to thank me for being here for you.” The two of you just stare for a minute with you taking in every detail of his pretty brown eyes and your noses almost touching. “I have to go shower but after that do you want me to come over? We can play that card game you’ve mentioned.” He offers to come over instead of having you come to his place knowing you wouldn’t want to leave Max home alone, even if she’s going to stay locked in her room.
“That sounds great! Have you eaten? I’ll make sandwiches and get my deck of cards ready.”
“It’s a date, see you in a bit.” Eddie rushes over to his trailer as soon as he realizes the wording he let slip out. You barely even notice in your haste to get up and back inside.
“You can do three of a kind?!” Eddie exclaims as you lay out your winning Rummy hand.
“Yeah, I told you that when I explained the rules.” You giggle while you speak leaning forward to collect all the cards again. “Are we playing again?”
“Yeah, this next round is gonna be my round just you wait Sweetheart. I’ll win this time.”
“Okay.”
You try to give him a chance, even though after the cards were dealt you had two jacks and two sevens and the first card you picked up was a third jack. But after so long you end up with the three jacks in your hand, a seven, and a run of three clubs and then draw the fourth jack. You couldn’t just pass up that kind of winning hand.
“Oh Eddie baby. I’m sorry.”
“What?”
“Rummy.” You discard the seven and lay your hand down.
“No! Teach me a different game, this one’s impossible.”
“You’re just a sore loser.” You laugh and start shuffling the cards again.
“What did you just call me?” Eddie jabs your side causing you to jump before he digs his fingers into your sides causing you to shriek. “A sore loser?”
“Yes! Eddie, stop!” You get the words out between fits of laughter that are making your belly ache and tears to well up in your eyes.
“Take it back and I will.”
“Okay, okay!” He takes his hands off of your sides and lets them hover there so you can talk. “You’re not a sore loser.”
“Thank you.” Eddie goes to collect the cards to reshuffle them.
“You’re just a loser.” You get a scoff before he’s tackling you backwards on the couch, gaining a shocked gasp and a bit of laughter before you both freeze with the realization of how close you are to each other.
Your noses are barely a centimeter apart, you’re close enough that you can make out a ring of a pale dull yellow near the outside of his iris. You knew that you could get lost in the sea of brown but you didn’t realize it was possible to drown in them. Just as his eyes glance down at your lips and you think he might kiss you floorboards creak pulling both of your attentions to Max entering the room. She pauses when she’s close enough to recognize the blob she sees on the couch as you and Eddie.
“What did I just walk in on?” Eddie hesitates a moment, glancing back at your lips before sitting back up straight against the arm of the couch.
“Cards obviously.” He picks up the deck and starts shuffling while you sit up and fix your tank top that had risen up.
“Sure.”
“Did you need something Max?” Your concerned voice brings her attention to you. The love in your voice, and she’s sure it shows in your eyes even if she can’t see it, causes her to tear up. She was so sure that after she yelled at you for nothing you’d be upset with her. She’s sitting next to you and hugging you in no time at all. “Are you okay?”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to yell at you earlier.” That fact that she did has been eating at her since she shut herself in her room. “You were just trying to do something we love together and I-”
“It’s okay.” You cut her off resting your chin on top of her head. “Everyone has moments where they lash out without meaning to under stress. Remember when we were younger and I screamed at that kid who had a crush on me at the skate park to leave me alone? All because mom and dad were fighting a lot that week and my stress was through the roof between trying to keep you away from it and being the buffer between them. Poor kid avoided me for the next month.” She laughs at the memory before pulling away. “You wanna play five hundred with me and Eddie? We’ve been playing rummy because he thought that would be too long of a game but we can switch games if you want.”
“Can I just watch? I don’t trust my eyes to not mess with me.”
“Yeah, of course.” She moves to sit closer to Eddie while you get up and sit on the floor on the other side of the coffee table. “Deal the cards big guy.”
“You wanna make this round interesting?”
“How so?” He deals the cards out before answering so he can fight off the nerves for what he’s about to say.
“Loser has to go on a date with the winner.” You can’t stop the smile from forming on your face.
“Oh you are so on.” You and Eddie are both quick to pick up the facedown cards in front of you using them to hide the goofy smiles on both your faces.
“This is the weirdest way I’ve ever seen someone get asked out for sure.” You both ignore her as you continue playing. After a few back and forths at taking turns Eddie shoots up in excitement.
“Rummy!” He lays his hand on the table before making his way around the table to pull you to your feet. “I believe you owe me a date, loser.”
“Alright, I guess I do.” You try to act disappointed but you can’t get rid of the smile on your face. “Guess I better get to planning.”
“Don’t worry about that. I’ll do everything, you just have to answer the door when I come get you.” Eddie starts heading towards the door to leave, stopping right before leaving. “Tomorrow night, dress comfortably.”
By the end of the next month Eddie owes Max fifty dollars.

Be strong, Red | Eddie Munson x Mayfield!Reader
Summary: Eddie surprised you at the hospital
Notes: In this version, Eddie didn’t die at the end of season 4. He is alive, and he is not Kas. He and Dustin got away from the demo-bats, he just has some bite injuries that are not too bad. I got this idea when season 4 ended, but never finished it. After seeing Sadie back on set for season 5, I picked it back up.
Warnings: spoilers for season 4, mention of injuries
Tumblr media
Days passed since everyone got back from the Upside Down. Mike came back from California — with the whole Byers crew. Hopper was not dead…which was a shock to everyone. And Eddie was still the most wanted man of Hawkins.
Because of that, he couldn’t return to live with his uncle. It pained him to play dead and lie to the man who raised him, but it was only until they figured a way to prove that he did not commit the murder of Chrissy. That could take a while, though…
Until then, Dustin got the brilliant idea of hiding him at Hopper’s cabin. It got a bit destroyed during past encounters with monsters, but everyone brought a hand and fixed the place. It wasn’t the Four Seasons, but it was better than Reefer Rick's dock house.
Steve and Dustin brought him clothes and food, and visited regularly. But Eddie quickly got bored. He was also confused why his girlfriend had not come to see him yet. A week has passed already. Did they not tell her he was alive?
He got his answer one afternoon while he was eating frozen hot pockets. Mike and Dustin were talking about Lucas being at the hospital until 6pm, which raised Eddie’s attention.
‘’Why is Sinclair at the hospital? Did he get hurt or something?’’
Mike nervously glanced at Dustin, who gave him ‘absolutely not’ eyes. Their silent exchange told Eddie that there was something they weren’t telling him. And he wanted to know now.
‘’What do you mean ‘Red is at the hospital’?’’
After getting fed on everything he didn’t know, Eddie grabbed a hoodie and headed toward the door. His girlfriend’s little sister was in a coma and no one told him? He was fuming.
Dustin tried to stop him, blocking the door with his body. ‘’Are you insane? You can’t go to the hospital! There’s police all over town—’’
Eddie played deaf as he slipped on his shoes. ‘’What? I see your mouth move, but I can’t hear the words.’’
Dustin glared at him. ‘’Nancy wanted to tell you, but Steve said that if you knew you would try to go and you really can’t do that. I know you want to be with them right now, with her, but that’s too big of a risk.’’
‘’Dustin’s right!’’ Mike agreed. ‘’Maybe we can find another way?’’
Eddie did not listen to his little sheeps. He waited for them to leave and went into town.
Sneaking into the hospital was easy and, surprisingly, so was finding Max’s room. Since she was under eighteen, the only place she could be was the pediatric unit. Once on the right floor, all Eddie had to do was read every name on the doors until he found ‘Maxine Mayfield’. It was a long process, but he made it.
Hand on the door knob, Eddie paused. What if there was a doctor inside, or a nurse? Worse, your mother? They wouldn't hesitate to call security on him.
So he did a small prayer as he took a deep breath, then pushed the door and stepped in. Inside, the curtains were shut, dimming the brightness of the room. Thankfully, there were no doctors or other adults. Just you.
Lucas must have gone home.
Your back was facing the room, but Eddie recognized the back of your red hair. The same as Max's. You were sitting alone by your sister's side.
Max.
Eddie let his eyes drift from you for a few seconds to check on the little one who threw his Iron Maiden cassette out the window on the way to school. She had a cast on both arms and legs, and a cervical brace around her neck. Eddie’s stomach churned. Mike and Dustin had warned him that it was bad, but he didn't think it was that bad. She looked just like Chrissy.
‘’Red.’’
The voice made you bolt up from your chair. You knew he was alive, Dustin told you that the death rumors were false, but seeing him in person made it more real. His curly hair was covered with a hat and he had a hood on to further cover his face and identity. He had no rings, chains or band tee shirt. Just plain old clothes that didn't look like they belonged to him.
Your feet brought you to him, and tears welled in your eyes when his arms closed around you, a rush of emotions crashing. You had vowed to yourself to not cry in front of your mother anymore. It was so hard for her to see Max in a hospital bed, you needed to be strong for her or else she might lose herself under alcohol bottles.
‘’Please don’t let me go,’’ you said against Eddie’s shoulder, holding him so tight it was probably crushing his lungs.
Eddie didn’t complain. He let you take what you needed and kissed the top of your head.

Sweetheart - (eddie munson x reader)
**UNDER HEAVY CONSTRUCTION**
Ch. One - The Wot?
Tumblr media
summary: when the split mayfield/hargrove family move to hawkins the oldest mayfield finds out that hawkins might be the weird change she needed.
pairing: eddie x fem!goth!mayfield! reader
warnings: 18+ (minors dni) this is obnoxiously long, unfortunate use of y/n, language, mentions of abuse, billy hargrove -i think that's all-
author's note: i'm nervous but also excited for this. the first few chapters are purely exposition and are honestly pretty boring except for some funny stuff but it picks up pretty fast. let me know if you like it and want to see the rest. love you <3
Part 2 >>
Tumblr media
Y/n Mayfield stretched her arms above her head as she stepped out of her stepbrother's Camaro outside Hawkins High School on her first day, discreetly tossing her nearly finished joint on the ground. "Uh, hello?" her sister Max called from the backseat. "Oh, my bad," Y/n snorted. She moved the seat forward so Max could step out. Her stepbrother Billy was already long gone and on the way to the school but neither of the sisters noticed or cared.
Max punched Y/n's shoulder when she stood fully with a smile. Y/n gasped and dramatically held her shoulder with a look of fake anguish on her face. Max giggled and told her to shut up. Y/n snickered and ruffled Max's hair.
"See ya, rat," Y/n said. "Bye Simmons," Max replied, skating towards the middle school. "Still hate KISS!" Y/n yelled, earning a middle finger from her little sister.
The older girl noticed two other teenagers gawking at them from their own car across the lot. She smirked and tossed a peace sign above her head as she walked backwards towards the high school before turning and walking normally.
Y/n kinda liked it in Hawkins. California was too warm, and it was always ridiculously bright there. Being a person who liked to wear dark clothes didn't really mix well with that. That and all the people there were obnoxious and annoying. But it was California.
Not much else to expect.
Y/n smiled charmingly at the receptionist in the office as she walked in. "Hey, uh, I'm new? Should be under Mayfield?" she asked.
The receptionist shuffled through the papers on her desk and pulled out two papers. One was her schedule, and one was a little map of the school. Y/n tried not to laugh out loud at the map but thanked her anyways. "Ah! Let me call up a student to show you to class. Hold on one second, hon," the lady said, calling someone on the phone and telling Y/n to wait there for a minute. She nodded and leaned against the wall until the girl who was staring at her earlier came in.
"Hi, Nancy. Would you mind showing her to her first class? You have it together," the receptionist lady asked. Nancy stuttered before nodding with a 'sure!' and motioning for Y/n to follow her. Y/n did, saluting the secretary as she left.
Nancy walked beside her, humming quietly at the faint smell of weed, hair dye, and fabric softener from Y/n. Nancy thought it was odd but comforting for some reason. "Sorry. I-I'm Nancy. Wheeler," Nancy spoke up, introducing herself. Y/n snorted at her awkwardness and shook the girl's outstretched hand, "All good. I'm Y/n," she said.
Nancy nodded with a smile, "Nice. It suits you," she replied. Y/n smiled and thanked her.
They did get a good conversation going after that, having finally broken the ice and Nancy took her schedule from her to see what classes they had together. The shorter of the pair also showed Y/n where her locker was so she didn't have to carry all of her stuff and helped her get it open. Y/n, still partially high, tried her best to listen to what Nancy had to say. Nancy seemed pretty smart, and it was obvious she had lived in Hawkins her whole life, so good thing to have a friend who knows their shit.
Nancy glared at people who were staring at Y/n, who was completely oblivious to it as she carried her books and dropped the other school stuff she didn't put in her locker into the bag her mom made her carry. Y/n towered over Nancy, so she stuck out like a sore thumb. Not because Y/n was inherently tall, but because she had a pair of six-inch-tall black platform boots to add to her normal height.
Nancy noticed and thought it was brave of her. People were very judgmental in Hawkins, so to walk around without caring and with a look like that took guts. Nancy appreciated it. She had never really hung out or met anyone like Y/n, but she'd always wondered what it would be like to have a friend like her.
Y/n was currently standing at an even six feet tall and wore black head to toe including her hair, which was dyed jet black and ruffled into a shaggy cut.
Nancy smiled in satisfaction with herself when they walked into class and people gaped at them walking in together. Miss perfect Nancy Wheeler walking around with someone who looks like something straight out of a heavy metal magazine.
Robin Buckley's eyes widened from her spot in the back corner seat, and she listened to Y/n talk when the teacher made her introduce herself. Everyone was staring at her, seeming completely interested in what she had to say.
"Uh, hey! I'm Y/n," she said, "I'm from California. Now I live here. I'm just trying to graduate, so, if you're chill, we can hang!" Y/n mumbled thanks to the teacher before taking a seat in the back directly behind Nancy. Nancy turned around and gave her a thumbs-up, inviting her to sit with her at lunch. Y/n snickered and shrugged, which was her way of saying yes.
The whole class kept staring at her off and on, trying to focus on schoolwork but also hung up on the new girl. Hawkins almost never got new kids, but when they got one like this?
Everyone is shell-shocked.
Y/n blinked slowly and listened to the teacher ramble on about math. She grabbed a tin of Altoids that obviously didn't have Altoids in it anymore and popped one in her mouth. The bell rang shortly after and Y/n and Nancy were on their way to their lockers and next class.
Y/n took off her jacket, shoving it in her locker, and even that simple action earned some whispers. Nancy also looked a little shocked when she walked up, hugging a new pile of books to her chest. A guy who was about half an inch shorter than Y/n with huge hair trailed after her, eyes widening at Nancy's new friend. "What?" Y/n asked obliviously, eyes bouncing from one to the other. The couple was quiet, trying to come up with an answer, and failing.
"It's the tattoos, innit?" Y/n whispered. Nancy nodded a small smile on her lips.
"I can, like, put my jacket back on if it makes y'all uncomfortable..." Y/n offered.
"Nah, man, they're cool! I just think people weren't expecting them," the guy replied swiftly. "Oh. Okay," Y/n shrugged, and they were walking to class.
Y/n sucked her teeth and picked up the pace to toss herself into the lockers next to a blond boy dressed in all denim, a smarmy look on his face.
"What?" he said sharply.
Y/n laughed at him, "Oh, you wound me with your hatred!" Billy looked very unthreatening having to look up to speak to her eye to eye. He rolled his eyes and repeated himself. "Just wondering how your day is going. Are people staring at you too, or is it just me?" Y/n asked.
Billy scoffed and looked around, noticing a few people quickly avoiding his gaze before they got caught staring.
"Nah, it's not just you," Billy said lowly, slamming his locker and stomping away.
Y/n found her way to second period and sat down next to Nancy after having to introduce herself again.
"Hey!"
Y/n turned at the sharp whisper and raised an eyebrow at a brunette sitting next to her. Y/n looked around before pointing at herself, "Me?" she whispered back. The brunette nodded. Y/n waved hesitantly, glancing at the teacher to make sure they wouldn't get in trouble. The brunette held up a finger, turning to her notebook and writing something in it before ripping it out and passing it to Y/n.
"hi"
Y/n smirked and wrote back "hi :)" the brown-haired girl smiled and wrote on the paper under that.
"I'm Robin"
"Y/n" Y/n wrote back.
"I know. We have first together too."
"Oh, word? Nice."
"I know! Anyways, I think we should be friends! I like your style."
"Hell yeah we should! You seem nice and thank you." "Awesome!! I was so worried that wasn't going to work."
"Ahahaha don't worry you're cool."
"Yay I'm cool!! But I won't make you pass notes for an eternity. You probably have a lot to catch up on, so I'll see you later, k?"
"Ok!"
And with that, Y/n made a new friend.

Band’s First Album
Eddie Munson x Reader

masterlist | oneshots
The guys shifted anxiously from sitting to standing then back to sitting waiting to be seen by some top executives at a record label firm. They were playing at a local college bar when someone anonymously suggested them to a record label. But just their luck, that deal fell through. However, one of the assistants that worked at the previous record label transferred to the record label Corroded Coffin is signing with right now. They played for them and it was an instant connection. Every single last one of them knew that our little babies were going to make it huge. They had a lot of what metal was in the mid-1980s. It was a perfect fit for everyone.
Now, Corroded Coffin was back in Indianapolis, Indiana for the day to record their first album. None of them knew what to expect, so naturally, I packed them all goodie bags for when it gets overwhelming they have some home comfort. It took them roughly three months to create the album and another month to record it. Then they had to choose the design and how it wanted to look and the creativity part of it as well. All in all, it took six months to finalize their first album together. While they were doing that, I was working and unpacking the new home we were all living in. Sure, it wasn’t the best, but it was good for right now.
“Babe! We’re home!” Eddie said coming through the front door. I emerged out of the kitchen ecstatic to see my boys.
“How’d it go? Let me see.” I held their first printed album in my hands. “This is amazing. I cannot express how proud I am of you guys.” I hugged each of them, saving Eddie for last. The guys groaned when we kissed, but only made us hold onto each other more.
Another two weeks passed and even though it was not needed for the rest of their albums, the first album had a launch party. Followed by more press and a slew of fans, their music rose to the charts very quickly. Three months later they were number seven in the top ten in America. It was insane to think that they were traveling around the United States, then going globally to perform. All in a few years' time their wildest dreams come to fruition.
Tumblr media
One of the best experiences was that the guys got to meet their idol musicians at an award show. Not just any award show they were invited to; no, it was the first award show they were nominated for. Metallica, Van Halen, and Dio were there. It was a dream come true, especially for Eddie. They could not contain their excitement. I mean Jeff looked like he was going to pass out just from seeing them twenty feet away. Then Gareth actually started swaying as if he wanted to faint. It was kind of funny to see a muscular metal bad fangirling over their favorite bands that made them who they are. They all introduced themselves and talked for a while. It was heartwarming to know that through all the excitement, Eddie never let me leave his side. His hand either held mine, or his arm was around my waist or shoulder. Occasionally I kissed his cheek to allow his nerves to balance back out.
“Baby, I cannot believe we just met our idols. I mean this is the coolest thing in the world. Am I shaking? I feel like I’m shaking. Shit, please tell me I wasn’t stupid, not that it matters, but yeah it kinda does.” Eddie kept going on. I chuckled at his nervous excited state.
“Yes my love, you were acting like an idiot, but a goofy and loveable one. They loved you guys and it’s nice to see that their job and meaning in life is touching young kids’ hearts.” I said kissing his cheek.
Tumblr media
Later that evening at the award show, Corroded Coffin won Best New Artist. As much as this was a dream come true for them, it was a dream come true for me to see the love of my life and some of my best friends their happiest. They worked so hard to be here and it all paid off.
“I love you so much. I don’t know where I’d be without you.” Eddie said holding my face.
“You’d still be here. Sad and alone, but you’d still be here.” I giggled looking up at him.
“No, I could not have been here without you. I mean it. You’re my whole world.” He closed the gap between our lips, pressing a chaste kiss to mine. The world stopped for a moment as we engulfed ourselves in love.

CHAPTER II: 'D'yer Mak'er'
‘I always thought you guys would end up together.’ Max muttered, looking out the window.
‘Who are you talking about?’ y/n asked, confused at the change of the topic of the conversation.
‘You and Sam.’ She shrugged.
‘You're always trying to set me up with someone.’ She replied amused. Then shook her head as she looked down the road. ‘He deserves someone better. Ouch!’ She groaned as she felt a punch on her shoulder. Max scowled at her.
‘You're great! Don't talk about yourself like that!’
‘I didn't mean it like that... it's... complicated.’ She began, as she rubbed her arm. The redhead was still looking at her, expectant: ‘To date someone, it's not enough just to love each other.’
‘I still don't understand…’
The blonde thought for a while about how to explain the situation correctly, while the other waited patiently. She had never had a talk about boys with Max, but in this new stage that awaited them, and with Max entering her pre-teens years, she knew she had to let the girl more into her personal world.
‘I don't know if I can explain it. As much as we have a lot in common, we don't have that... spark. He's great, and I love him, he loves me, but not in the right way. He'll find a girl who's perfect for him. And…’
‘And you'll find someone for you.’ She interrupted her, convinced. ‘I feel it. And he's waiting for you in Hawkins.’
‘And what else do you see in my future?’ She joked, sticking her tongue out at her.
‘Oh…yes’ The girl closed her eyes and as if she was having a vision from the future, and said. ‘I see you'll stop the car and buy me an ice cream when we get to the hotel.’ She commented in an ominous voice, and opened one eye to see her reaction. y/n shook her head as she smiled.
They stopped by a hotel in Holbrook. It had been eight hours since they had left the house, and they had to stop to rest. From California to Indiana was a thirty-hour drive, so they had a long drive ahead of them.
The next morning, after buying a few things for a breakfast in the car, they resumed their trip. Max was making up games as time went by to keep themselves entertained. From making up stories about the lives of people in other cars, to looking for shapes in the clouds. There was even a karaoke time. At that moment, they were playing 'guess what object I'm thinking of'.
'Is it yellow?' y/n asked after several tries. Max shook her head. 'Is it... red?'
'Yep' She nodded, taking a sip of her Dr. Pepper..
'Is it your sneakers?' She guessed, squinting her eyes. Max clapped her hands and took one of her Bugles and offered it to her sister, who opened her mouth. Max let out a small laugh. After a few minutes, she yawned.
'Are you still sleepy? Why don't you rest for a while?' She advised her, gently stroking the girl's cheek. She nodded and took off her jacket to transform it into a improvised pillow. 'Does the music bother you?' She asked in a soft voice, looking sideways at her.
'No, it's fine.' She murmured. 'If you get bored or need to stay alert, wake me up.' She asked her. Only a couple of minutes later, she was already asleep.
The engine roared in harmony with the sound of distorted chords blasting from the Chevy Impala's stereo. Y/n occasionally adjusted the volume to find the perfect balance between the roar of the wind and the song she had put on. Max, lying peacefully in the passenger seat, the gentle swaying of the vehicle had lulled her into a deep sleep.
Through the windshield, the changing landscape of endless highways stretched to the horizon. Y/n was lost in thought as her eyes swept along the line of trees and telephone poles that faded in their wake. She had left behind the familiarity of San Diego, the warmth of the California sun and the vibrant nights of the West Coast. Now she was headed for a totally unfamiliar place: Hawkins, Indiana.
The rhythm of the music carried her, but her mind was torn between the past and the uncertain future that awaited her. She remembered the long nights when her rock band rehearsed in the garage, the smell of the ocean and hot asphalt on the streets of California, the laughter shared with friends who would now be left behind. Yet she also felt a spark of excitement as she imagined what she might find in Hawkins. A fresh start, perhaps.
She glanced sideways at Max, whose calm and collected expression revealed the confidence she had in her. Y/n knew that Max had been the driving force behind this sudden change in her attitude, convincing her that Hawkins would be different, that they could truly find a new beginning.
The sun was beginning to descend toward the west, tinting the sky in shades of orange and pink. Y/n smiled to herself as they stepped into a new chapter of her life. The music continued to play, each note resonating in her heart as a reminder that no matter where this road ended, she would always carry with her the rebelliousness and indomitable spirit that defined her. With that mix of nostalgia and anticipation, y/n immersed herself further into the changing landscape, letting the music guide her into the unknown.
After a final stop in a small town that seemed frozen in time, y/n and Max resumed their journey toward Hawkins. The shabby looking gas station had been their last point of contact with civilization before heading into the darkness of the night road.
The sky was tinged a deep dark blue, dotted with bright stars that seemed to wink at y/n from above. The Chevy Impala roared with determination as it traversed endless straights flanked by fields and silent woods. Silence had taken over the interior of the car, interrupted only by the soft hum of the engine and the occasional murmur of Max, who had drifted back into a peaceful slumber.
Y/n tightened her grip on the steering wheel, feeling the tension and excitement building as they neared their destination. After nearly two days of traveling, she could feel the weight of the unknown approaching with every mile they drove. The cool night air was pouring in through the half-open window, mingling with the scent of the fields and trees flying by. She opened the window a little wider and took a deep breath with her eyes closed.
In the distance, the faint lights of Hawkins began to silhouette against the horizon, like tiny stars anchored to the earth. Y/n gritted her teeth, feeling a mixture of nervousness and determination. This was the place where she would begin her new life, where the uncertain awaited her. Making new friends, new memories. Starting from scratch seemed so optimistic and terrifying at the same time.
The car's cassette player started playing a Led Zeppelin song, and y/n smiled wistfully as she remembered afternoons spent listening to music with her friends. She tried not to think what they would be doing at that moment. It was time to look ahead to the unknown that awaited them in that Indiana small town.
As they arrived a two-story house stood imposingly under the starry Hawkins sky, its massive presence contrasting with the vast rural landscape that surrounded it. Billy, arms folded and grim, looked around with palpable disdain, as if every tree and blade of grass were a personal insult. The smell of fresh fields, a mixture of damp earth and wildflowers, filtered through the open window.
Neal and Susan, trying to diffuse the tension, exchanged forced smiles and positive comments about the fresh air and tranquility of the place. They were trying to find beauty where Billy saw only limitations and nostalgia for what they had left behind in California.
Max, usually frank and direct, was silent, fiddling with a crumpled sheet of paper she had found on the floor. Sitting on the edge of a half-open box, she watched with a frown the interaction between her brother and her parents. She also felt the awkwardness hovering in the air, the palpable tension between expectations and the reality of her new life at Hawkins.
Y/n, more optimistic and determined than ever, approached Max as they unpacked some belongings in the tentatively empty living room. She gently took Max's hand and looked into her eyes with a mixture of concern and determination.
"What are you thinking about, Madmax?" asked y/n with a soft voice.
Max watched y/n for a moment, before dropping the crumpled sheet and folding her arms. "It's not what I expected, y/n. It's too quiet, too... different. I don't know if I can get used to this place."
Y/n nodded slowly, recognizing the sincerity in Max's words. But she gave her a friendly nudge, trying to cheer her up.
"Hey, where's your optimism left?" The girl shrugged.
"I think he fell asleep at the St. Louis Hotel." y/n laughed and wrapped one of her arms around her shoulders.
"We're in this together, you know? We're going to make it work, somehow."
Max nodded with a slight smile, grateful for her older sister's understanding, and got up to finish unpacking.
After hours of unpacking boxes and tidying up her new room, y/n plopped down on the bed, exhausted but satisfied with her work. The room was almost ready: the walls now adorned with posters of her favorite bands, the guitar propped in one corner, and her books and notebooks neatly stacked on the desk.
Morning silence settled over the house, broken only by the occasional creak of wood and the soft murmur of the wind through the trees outside the window. The others were possibly sleeping. y/n looked up at the roof, taking in the reality of being in a new place. The excitement of the move had given way to a strange mixture of nervousness and anticipation.
She sat up in bed and looked around, everything in the room was new but she had managed to imprint her essence in every corner. Despite this, the change was overwhelming. She had left behind friends, a familiar life and now she was faced with the task of starting over, making new friends and finding her place in this small town.
y/n took a deep breath, remembering Sam's words in her notebook, "Hey y/n, don't hold back. The rest of the world deserves to know what you're made of." She smiled slightly, feeling a spark of courage ignite inside her. She had to remember that, despite everything, she was still herself and carried with her everything that made her unique.
As she closed her eyes, y/n promised herself not to give up and to do her best in this new phase. Hawkins was a new beginning, a chance to reinvent herself and find new connections. And though the road might seem uncertain, she was determined to face it with the same passion and energy she had always had.
y/n had fallen sound asleep after the intense day of moving. She was dreaming of sunny California days when she was gently shaken by her little sister, Max.
‘Y/n/n, wake up!’Max insisted, her voice full of enthusiasm. ‘Can we go to the arcade games we saw on the way over?’
Y/n opened her eyes slowly, adjusting to the midday light coming through the window. She stretched and sat up in bed, still a little sleepy but smiling at the excitement on Max's face.
‘Of course, Max. But first we need to ask Dad's permission’. She said, getting up and tidying herself up a bit before leaving the room.
Together they went downstairs and found Neal in the kitchen, finishing unpacking some boxes. y/n approached him, with Max at her side.
‘Dad, Max and I want to go downtown. We saw some arcade games on the way and thought we could go and pick up some stuff for the house while we're at it.’ y/n asked with a half smile.
Neal frowned, clearly tired and not very happy with the idea.
‘I'm not sure this is the best time. We still have a lot of organizing to do here.’ Before y/n could respond, Susan intervened, placing a hand gently on Neal's arm.
‘Neal, the girls have worked hard and deserve a break. Besides, they could buy some things we need to eat. It will do them good to get out a bit and explore the place.’
Neal sighed, his expression softening slightly.
‘All right, all right, but don't take too long. And be careful. Don't you want Billy to go with you?’ He asked, looking up at the boy. Knowing what her twin was thinking, she shook her head.
‘It's all right. We won't be long. Besides, I have to see where the school is, so I don't get lost on the way tomorrow.’ She told him. They had arranged for y/n to take the girl before school. Her father nodded, thinking. He reached into his pocket and offered her a few dollars.
‘Here, for the food.’
Y/n and Max headed toward downtown Hawkins, the car filled with the rock music. The green, peaceful scenery was in stark contrast to the bustling California streets they were used to. Max couldn't contain her excitement as she looked out the window, pointing out interesting sights.
‘Look, y/n! There it is!’ Max exclaimed when they saw the sign for the arcade games.
Y/n smiled and parked the car near the entrance.
‘Okay, Madmax. Have fun and stay out of trouble, okay? See you in an hour. Don't go anywhere else’
‘Promise!’ Max said before running off to the arcade, already looking for her first game.
y/n stared at her sister for a moment, making sure she was okay. Then, she headed to the nearby general store to buy the necessary groceries. Pushing the cart through the aisles, she began to fill the cart with essentials: milk, bread, cereal, and a few cans of soup. She thought about how to adjust to her new life here as she carefully selected each product.
After paying, she returned to the car with the shopping bags and began loading them into the trunk. It was then that she noticed a group of kids pasting posters on a nearby lamppost. Curiosity led her to move a little closer, wanting to see what it was all about.
One of the boys, with a friendly smile, long hair and a rock band t-shirt, noticed her and approached with one of the flyers in his hand.
‘Hi, are you new around here or just passing by?’ He asked, extending the flyer to her.
‘Yup, just got here’ y/n replied, taking the flyer and reading about the battle of the bands to be held the following weekend.
‘Great. I'm Eddie, by the way. You should come to the battle of the bands, it's going to be awesome. A lot of local bands will be participating, and it's always a good place to meet people. We'll be there.’ He pointed to the boys behind him, who waved curiously from afar.
Y/n smiled, feeling a spark of excitement.
‘Thank you, Eddie. I'm y/n. That definitely sounds like fun, I'll consider it.’ Ed smiled back and said goodbye before heading back to his group to continue pasting posters. Y/n looked at the flyer one more time before tucking it into the back pocket of her jeans. The idea of attending the battle of the bands excited her; it could be an opportunity to start meeting people and connecting with the local music scene.
With a new purpose in mind, y/n returned to the car and headed to the arcade to pick up Max, ready to tell her about the exciting event she had just discovered, thinking that maybe Hawkins wasn't so bad after all.

CHAPTER 3: THE GANGS ALL HERE
It took about fifteen minutes for the house to become a loud mess of young teens and young adults. Passing between the open door to the backyard, people dipping their feet in the pool, some hovering in the kitchen, and of course Steve, watching Robin with his hands on his hips as she manned the grill. He still didn't trust her enough to cook by herself, and you could only reassure him so many times, but still he refuses to fully believe you.
The gang included, Dustin Henderson, Max Mayfield, Lucas Sinclair, who was dating Max. Mike Wheeler and his sister Nancy Wheeler. Will Byers and his brother Johnathan Byers, who was dating Nancy. But Nancy was also Steves ex but they somehow get along really well?. Jane Hopper, who was will and Jonathans step sister, and she was dating Mike.
You sat on the edge of the pool next to Max watching Dustin and Mike battle it out with pool noodles.
"It's crazy to think all of you have grown up together" You comment.
Max turned to you, a small smile on her lips as she looked at you over the top of her red sunglasses. "Everyone always says that" She laughed. "They're the siblings I never had, and although they are all a huge pain in my ass I'm glad I became friends with them, trauma and all"
"Were you at the mall too? With the fire and all that?" you asked quietly.
"Uh yeah, most of us were actually" She seemed like she wanted to say more but closed her mouth. Forcing a tight lipped smile while she looked at me.
"That must have been scary, I can only imagine... But you don't have to talk about it, I get it, I'm sorry for prying" Instantly panicking that you might have crossed a line with the small red head but she laughed instead.
"No don't worry about it, people always ask about it, it's kind of an unbelievable story"
you nodded, turning your attention back to everyone around the backyard. Mike and Jane were sat close together on one of the lounge chairs, deep in conversations while their hands were intertwined.
"Hey can I ask you a question?" You said turning back to Max.
"Yeah of course"
"Who's the guy in the band? The show tomorrow?" your brows furrow, squinting through the sun.
"Eddie?"
You shrug. "Robin hasn't told me his name, keeps referring to him as 'an old friend' for some reason"
Max snorted. "Eddie Munson, he's the dungeon master for the DnD club all the guys were in at school. Or at least he was before he graduated, that's how we all know him, cause of those nerds" She said gesturing to the boys in the pool.
"Eddie Munson" You repeated. His named felt smooth on your tongue, a name you get used to saying... It replayed in your mind over and over again like a spell.
The rest of the night was actually quite peaceful. You all sat around the little campfire and exchanged stories, some good, some cringe, relating to old high school moments, and newer ones from the younger kids. They all seemed so mature for their age. All of them seeming to know more than me, and maybe they had been through more than they let on. But they were all so sweet nonetheless. It was obvious how much they loved and cared for each other.
After the sun had long gone down, we all cramped into the basement to watch a movie, and after almost an hour of back and forth yelling on which movie was better and why you ended up falling asleep about ten minutes into the movie. When you woke up the movie had ended and static played on the tv, lighting up the crowded couch where they all were fast asleep and all tucked around each other. You snuck away to grab your camera and snapped a picture of them, it was too cute for you not to.
"You're such a creep" Robin whispered to you. Waking up from her spot on the other couch, stretching her arms over her head.
"They look cute, sue me" you said without looking at her. "I'm going to head up to bed" you said, attempting to speak through your yawn.
Heading for the stairs you turned back to robin before leaving "Robin?" You said quietly.
"mhmm?"
"I really like your friends. I can see why you keep them around, I've never seen you so happy"
She blushed, the pink still prominent  enough in the white glow of the tv. "Thanks... They really like you as well, they can't believe I found another cool friend honestly" She looked at them with fondness in her eyes.
"Goodnight Robby"
You happily tucked yourself into your bed for the week, sinking into the lavish pillows surrounding you.
You woke up the next morning around nine thirty, stretching out your arms and legs. After a few extra minutes of staring at the ceiling you finally got up and creeped into the bathroom, brushing your teeth and peaking into Robins room to see if she was awake yet. She wasn't.
You grabbed a pair of fuzzy socks and tugged them on before quietly making your way downstairs.
Feeling your shoulders relax when you realized you were probably the only one awake right now.  You take your time snooping around the kitchen until you eventually found everything you needed to make coffee. You laughed to yourself knowing Robin would curse you for using instant coffee instead of 'the real stuff' considering you worked at a coffee shop. But something about instant coffee just hit perfectly in the morning.
Holding your mug of coffee to your chest you walked over to the large sliding doors to the backyard. Admiring the sun slowly filtering through the trees, bearing down a comfortable warmth before the heat of the afternoon was sure to hit.
You don't know when, or how long Steve had been in the kitchen but when he placed his own mug down on the counter; the ceramic noise of the cup meeting marble startled you and you flinched slightly, your coffee swirling in your mug threatening to spill more than the few splashes that hit your shirt.
"Sorry I didn't mean to scare you" Steve chuckled, his voice low and still groggy. from sleep. Hair a mess of a mop on the top of his head, yet it had somehow gained volume. "You're up early" He said while beginning to fix himself a cup of coffee.
"This is actually pretty late for me, I'm used to getting up so early for work" You pout. "This is the first time I've had more than two days off in a row"
"Really?" Steve said walking over to stand next to you. "How come you work so much?"
"I'm too nice to say no" you sigh, looking down into your coffee cup.
Taking a sip of his own, he nodded with a silent agreement. "That's like me and those little shits asleep downstairs. The amount of times I've considered moving back here just for them"
"You really are quite the babysitter aren't you? Robin makes jokes about it all the time, but it's different seeing you actually with them" you joke, bumping your shoulder into his.
Quiet footsteps from the basement stairs were heard behind you, both you and Steve turning to see who was creeping up the steps. It was Max with her two braids a little messy, a few strands coming untucked. "Oh thank god someone else is awake" She breathed while walking into the kitchen.
"I tried to stay down there but it's so boring when none of them are awake, and Dustins snoring was driving me crazy" Rolling her eyes she began searching through Steves cupboards, and drawers. The two of you continue to watch as she shifted around the kitchen, looking for whatever it was she was looking for. After a few minutes, she had laid out a bunch of bowls and other cooking utensils.
With a huff she leaned with both hands agaisnt the counter and looked up at Steve. "Steve do you have stuff to make pancakes?"
"Obviously" Steve said running a hand through his hair. "Of course I have stuff for pancakes" he scoffed while joining her on the other side of the counter.
As the smell of pancakes, syrup and bacon, filled the air, more and more of the gang slowly began to filter in and out of the kitchen. Grabbing a serving of pancakes and sitting around the kitchen and outside in the backyard to enjoy the morning warmth before it got too hot. You settled with three pancakes, adding sliced bananas on top and drowned them in syrup. "Max these are incredible" You say after swallowing a sticky mouthful of pancake and banana.
"Hey she didn't do all of the work!" Steve yelled over the sound of the kitchen sink, elbows deep in soapy water.
After a day of laying in the sun by the pool, and swimming until your arms hurt it was time to start getting ready for the show tonight. Most of the gang had gone home to get ready which left you alone sat on the floor surrounded by every item of clothing you had brought. You pouted at your choices, none of them seeming to satisfy you. With a groan you leaned back until you were laying on the floor.
"Somehow I always find you on the floor" Robin said from the door. "What's your dilemma this time" She said coming to join you on the floor
"I don't know what to wear" you grumbled, throwing an arm over your eyes.
"Just like, wear something all black, it's a pretty metal band, and a dingy bar so you don't have to try so hard to fit in"
Leaning up onto my elbows you surveyed your options once more. "Do I look like I wear all black?" you say gesturing to the colourful and mismatched pile of clothing.
Robin rolled her eyes. Leaning forward onto her knees she rummaged through the clothes, mumbling to herself as she went along.
"Here" She said shoving a full outfit into your hands. "Go put it on" She poked at your sides until you were laughing and helped you up off the floor. Shoving you towards to bathroom to get dressed.
It was the Metallica shirt that usually you wore exclusively for sleeping. A pair of black shorts, with rainbow striped socks and your converse. It was a simple outfit, and you were kind of annoyed you didn't consider it in the first place. "Perfect!" Robin said jumping up and down while clapping her hands. "You look so cute"
You blush, avoiding her gaze. "You said it was a metal band?"
"Yeah, super metal, very loud, I never know what they're singing half the time, but I'm there to support" She said shrugging, jumping a few times while buttoning up her jeans.
Going with the theme of black, you did some messy black eyeliner, smudging it out around the edges to give it a more 'alternative' vibe, whatever that meant. but I smudged it out more. You added a lightly tinted lipgloss giving your lips a perfect cherry pink color.
The hideout was about an hour away from the centre of Hawkins, the bar stationed at the very edge of the town in an almost deserted area with only a few other buildings around it. The neon sign outside of the door flickered, half of it burnt out but still trying  illuminated the large bald man who sat on a stool right next to the door, probably there to card minors, but by the looks of him he probably let most of them in.
Once inside the bar was exactly what you would picture any old dingy bar to look like. Wonky wooden floors that were abused by the heavy footed men who spilled their drinks after having one too many, or knocking over the tall bar tables in some sort of petty fight they wouldn't remember in fifteen minutes. The lights low, so only the few yellow wall lights filled the room with a faint glow. A couple of red faux leather booths across the left side of the bar, closest to the bathrooms that you could only imagine smelled like that weird portapotty chemical smell.
You scrunched your nose at the thought. Most of the gang ran over to grab seats in the booths while Robin lead you to the bar.
"What can I get for you two ladies?" the bar tender asked. He was tall and thick with muscle. Covered in tattoos, and some of them definitely looked gang related, but you didn't let your eyes linger on them very long.
"Could I get a vodka and coke?" Robin asked, her fingers tapping anxiously against the hardwood of the bar top.
The bartender nodded and then looked at you. "Just a sprite would be great" I said smiling.  "Also thank you"
His lips lifted ever so slightly into a small smile as he went about making our drinks. You smile to yourself, feeling accomplished from making the mean tough man smile.
"You're not drinking?" Robin asks with a raised brow, fingers still tapping away as she spoke.
"I can feel a headache brewing, don't want to make it worse by drinking tonight" it wasn't a lie, you decently did have a headache brewing, tension from the nerves of finally meeting the mystery man named Eddie. If you added alcohol into the mix tonight you'd be in for a rude awakening tomorrow.
Robin hummed, barely paying attention to what you said, her eyes searching every crevice of the bar.
 "Anxious about Vickie?"
Her eyes were wide, and she was so jittery she looked like a chihuahua. "No! Why would I be? Of course I'm not anxious" she said quickly, but folded even quicker.
"Well yes, a lot actually, she said she would be here, but what if she doesn't show?" She eagerly grabbed her drink the minute the bartender set them down. You give him another small smile before slapping down some cash for the drinks, and a couple into his tip jar.
"You talked to her on the phone today right?" Robin nodded, sipping her drink. "And she said she was coming, and that she was really excited to see you right?" You asked, repeating her words from earlier.
"Yeah she did"
"So then she'll be here Robin don't worry about it" you give her shoulder a reassuring squeeze and she smiles, taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly.
"I'm sorry for freaking out about it so much"
"Don't apologize, that's what best friends are for, we sign up to listen to you freak out about the same thing a million times, s'just our job" you shrug.
She rolled her eyes, opening her mouth to say something witty probably but the uproar of the gang behind the two of you made her turn around. "Oh!" She yelled and quickly made her way over to the booths. Confused you follow and watched as she envelopes a tall man with long curly hair in a hug. You assume this was the 'Eddie', Max had told you about yesterday but you could only see the back of him.
Shyly sliding next to Robin, who now held him at arms length, you were finally able to see him.
My god was he beautiful. You don't know why Robin didn't tell you; You guess the whole being a lesbian thing it probably didn't even occur to her. His skin looked like porcelain, and his eyes were such chocolate brown you were sure they would make anyone who made eye contact with him melt. He was smiling while Robin babbled to him, words you couldn't even make out because you were so entranced by him. He had dimples, and deep lines that formed when he smiled around his eyes and mouth. His face so full of expression, giving you exactly the response you would want from whatever you told him. When his eyes flickered to yours it felt like time had stopped. He furrowed his brows, just slightly, clearly confused as to who you was, but there was something in his eyes you couldn't quite make out, but it made them sparkle.
"Oh! Let me finally introduce you two" Robin said turning towards you. Snapping you out of your thoughts you shook your head a little, plastering a smile on my face and reaching your hand out towards him.
"She's a she?" He said turning to robin. "I thought your roommate was a dude this entire time?"
"No you dingus, I've talked about her before, and she is very much a she, not a dude. Not my fault you gendered a nickname" She said rolling her eyes and returning to the gang behind you. Everyone clearly already having said their hellos, leaving us to get to know each other a little.
"Sorry about that" you blush.
He smiled at you, bringing his hand forward engulfing yours with his and shook it lightly. He repeated your name, and it sounded like heaven coming from his lips. You correct him, and give him your nick name which you prefer to be called but he ignores it, glancing down at your shirt.
"That's my shirt?" He said letting go of your hand to tug at the hem of the fabric.
"Huh?" you look down at his hand and then back up at him.
"This is mine, I thought I lost it, but you of all people have it?" He said raising his eyebrow.
"Oh Robin gave it to me, she didn't want to throw it out, so I took it" You say shyly, looking down at your feet. "I usually sleep in it, I don't listen to them so I feel bad if I wear it out"
"So you're wearing your pyjamas at a bar?" He teased.
You bit the inside of your cheek and smiled up at him. "I didn't pick out the outfit alright? I'm a lot more colourful than this" You say waving a hand up and down your body.
"I can tell" He said with a laugh. "Alright I gotta head to the stage, I hope you enjoy the show, even if you don't listen to stuff like this"
"I'm sure I will, break a leg up there" You say, giving him a small thumbs up. He crossed both his fingers on each hand in return.
When he made it to the stage you grabbed robin; maybe a little too aggressively as she almost spilled her drink all over the floor. "Why didn't you tell me he looked like that?" you spat, trying not to get the attention of the rest of the group.
"Huh?"
"Eddie!" you exclaim.
"What about Eddie?"
"Oh my god" You ran a hand over your face. "He looks like a fucking sex god Robin and you let me leave the house looking like this?"
"You look cute!" She argued.
"Maybe! Not cute enough for him" You say throwing your hands up in the air.
"Wait do you like Eddie?" she asks excitedly
"Well I don't know him, so I can't say yes to that, but his fucking face apparently has a way of making me have feelings that's for sure"
Robin snorted. "Oh my god I can't believe you're crushing on Eddie"
"Robin I swear to god, if you say anything to anyone I will spill so much lego on the floor of your room you will never be able to walk comfortably ever again"
"I never said I was going to say anything!" She said in defence. "But no, I won't say anything. He for sure thinks you're pretty though" she said into her glass.
"How would you know that?" you snort
"Because he's staring at you" she said smiling.
A panicked quick glance to your right to see that he in fact, really was staring at you. He seemed lost in thought, his drummer talking to him passionately, his hands flying, all while Eddies eyes stayed locked on you. Blushing, you ended up being the first one to break eye contact, but Eddies eyes didn't stray from you for very long.
About five minutes later Vickie finally showed up and ran full speed to Robin, hugging her so tightly while burying her head into Robins shoulder. They stood like that for a few minutes before finally breaking apart to give each other a cluster of kisses, laughing the whole time.
You smiled while you watched them, knowing Robin had nothing to worry about. Vickie is hopelessly in love with that woman.
More people filtered in and eventually people were standing shoulder to shoulder. Robin and Steve creating a protective amount of space around you, knowing know more about these types of crowds. Feeling very grateful to have them as friends who take such good care of you.
When Eddie emerged from the stage again he had removed his leather jacket. Now only a loose black tank top hung over his broad shoulders. His hair tugged half up into a bun to keep it out of his face. When he spoke into the mic I watched as his lips grazed the metal of it with each word.
"How ya doing Hawkins?" His voice echoed through the bar. People cheering and clapping at the sound of his voice.
"It's been a while, but I could never forget my favourite place" Another round of cheers. "Were gunna play a couple of our songs, but we wanna end it with the one that started it all, which is a cover of Metallicas Master of Puppets"
The gang excitedly screamed and clapped, encouraging him.
"Alright, that being said let's get this show fucking started" He almost growled those last few words before he and the rest of his band started jamming on their instruments. Grabbing your camera out of your bag, you snapped a couple pictures of Eddie. For the memories... Obviously.
They were insane. You couldn't really understand the words, and you could feel your headache grow, but being able to watch each of them individually and how much passion they put into their performance it was worth it.
Eddie looked like be belonged up there, like he was born to be on a stage, or at least the centre of attention. How could he not be with a face like that. His head bobbing along to the music as his fingers diligently worked up and down the neck of his guitar. His tongue jutting out over his top lip as he concentrated on the chords. His bangs were clinging to his forehead, sweat dripping down his face and onto his chest. The once loose fitting tank top now clung to his damp torso.
When he finally opened his eyes again he looked right at you but it felt like he was looking through you. It felt like your heart had stopped and time had stood still for the second time tonight. You could see Robin look at you out of the corner of your eye but refused to give her the satisfaction of looking back at her.
When the show finally ended, the entire gang was so hyped up and excited. Apparently Eddie and his band had been traveling a bit around the U.S doing small shows, and people seemed to really enjoy them!
We were all gathered around an old van at the side of the bar while the band came in and out, putting all their equipment in the back of the van. You scuffed the toe of your shoe off the ground while you waited with the rest of them. Robin and Vickie had been attached at the hip the minute Vickie entered the bar, so you drifted off to the side, afraid of bothering the rest of them.
When Eddie came out and the gang got loud again, all of them exchanging hugs, and 'welcome homes'. You leaned against the side of the van watching them, Unable to hide the smile seeing them have so much love for their friend. A heart grunt from the door next to you made you turn, one of the band guys struggling to carry something. His hand was slipping and made the weight off so you jogged over quickly to grab the other end of whatever it was that he was carrying. It looked like it was an amp.
"Thanks!" He smiled and huffed.
"I couldn't just stand there and watch you struggle" You said while straining to keep your end of the amp up high enough to lift up into the van. He let you shift your end in first, clearly noticing your slight struggle. You dusted off your hands on your shorts once the amp was successfully placed into the van.
"Thanks again" He said raising his hand up to you for a high five you smacked his hand, leaving the two of you with a stingy palm
"No problem"
"I'm Gareth by the way" he said introducing himself quickly before returning to the inside of the bar.
Going back to leaning against the van you crossed your arms over your chest, rubbing your arms and resting your hands on the tops of your shoulders, fighting off the small chill from the light breeze rolling by. Closing your eyes you leaned your forehead against the cool metal of the van, letting yourself relax into it slightly, the cold temperature soothing the dull ache behind your eyes.
"So how'd you like the show?"
Eddies voice startled your, your eyes snapping open with a small flinch.
He laughed and gave you a sympathetic smile. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you" He said holding up his hands in defence.
"It's okay" you laughed. "But I liked it. It was cool seeing you up there, very wild" You said honestly.
"I'm not like that all the time"
"What a rockstar?"
"Well yeah, I'm just a big nerd, town freak, all that good stuff" He said shrugging with a small smile.
"Aren't we all?" You asked tilting your head to the side. "Probably why we all get along so well huh?" You nod towards the slowly dispersing group of friends.
He laughed, shoving his hands deep into his pockets, leaning back onto the balls of his feet, with his shoulders tucked up high near his ears. The loud bang of the doors of the van closing made the both of us jump.
"Good to go Ed" Gareth said giving him a thumbs up.
"Thanks man" Eddie said with a salute. He turned back to you quickly. "Where you staying? Steves?"
"Uh yeah"
"I'll drive you" He said pulling out his keys from his pocket.
"Oh no that's okay I came with- Wait where did she go" You looked around for Robin, spinning in a full circle. "She left with Vickie didn't she"
"About ten minutes ago, when you were helping Gareth with the amp"
"The sex better be worth it if she's abandoning me" You say with fake annoyance.
"Your chariot awakes m'lady" He said while dipping into a bow.
"Why thank you kind sir" You quip with a terrible fake British accent, accompanied by a clumsy curtsy. Eddie reached for your hand, grabbing it and leading you up to the passenger side of the van which you now realized was his. He opened the door and continued to hold your hand to help me up and into the seat. After closing your door he jogged around the front and quickly got into the drivers seat.
You clipped in your seatbelt, setting your bag on the floor by your feet. "Is it okay if I cross my legs?" You asked looking towards him.
"Yeah why wouldn't it be?" He said turning around, one hand placed on the back of your headrest as he reversed out of the parking spot. You could smell him like this, sweat, beer, and some sort of cologne you couldn't decipher.
"Didn't know if you were one of those car people" You joke while tucking your legs up and crossing them.
"You mean like Steve?" He said glancing at you.
"Exactly that"
"This van is probably older than me, it reeks of weed and cigarettes, you could pretty much do anything in here, I don't mind"
"I'll keep that in mind for when I have to pee" You tease. "I'll just pee my pants"
He scrunched his nose. "Okay maybe no pissing on my seats"
"Too late, I make no promises"
"You're funny. I like it"
"Oh, uh, thank you" You blush looking down at your hands, suddenly finding the nail polish on them very interesting.
"So, tell me about yourself"
You groan. "That's like the worst way to get to know someone!"
"How is that the worst way to get to know someone? It's such a simple question!" He argued.
"Oh it absolutely isn't! It's like the worst question they ask you at job interviews, I never know what they want to hear!"
He laughed loudly and you couldn't help but laugh with him. His head tilting back slightly. "Okay well what do you want me to know about you?"
"Oh fuck that seems even harder... Let me think about that for a moment" You said, and he let you. You sat in silence for a few minutes while you racked your brain for anything you thought was maybe interesting enough about yourself to tell him.
"I like taking pictures?" You say, catching a side glance at him.
"What do you like to take pictures of?" He asked without a beat, his fingers tapping against the steering wheel.
"Anything really, I journal them often"
"You journal them?"
"Yeah, I tape them into a notebook, with kind of like a diary entry about whatever I wanna write about, and then I'll say something about the pictures and then cover the page with stickers and doodles"
"Are you gunna put the pictures of me in there?"
Your heart squeezed. "Yeah I might" you admit "You gunna be jealous if I don't?"
"My heart would be absolutely crushed princess" He said while taking one hand off of the wheel to clutch at his heart.
Princess.
A small giggled bubbled in your chest, and a snort escaped amongst the laugh you let out.
"What a wonderful sound that is" he said with a dreamy sounding sigh.
"What is?"
"Your laugh" he said turning to glance at you.

💌CHAPTER ONE: Move-In Day💌
Hawkins, Indiana. You’d never heard of it. To make matters more nerve wracking, you, your mom, and your little sister, Max, were moving to the middle of nowhere to shack up with her new husband and his son. You had met Neil Hargrove a few times when he came to visit from California, and he seemed nice enough. That’s the keyword – seemed. There was something intense about him that made you uneasy, and Max agreed that even though your mom seemed to be head over heels for the mustached, steam pressed, ordinary tryhard of a man, the two of you would keep a calculated distance from him pending further review.
The car ride was excruciatingly long, and you and Max each had your own walkman to keep you company, trading tapes every so often and sharing whatever snacks you could snag at the last gas station you happened upon. Your mom didn’t seem to realize the two of you were immersed in your high-volume music as you watched her lips move, undoubtedly chattering away about all of the fun features of the new town you were doomed to spend the impending school year in. Max rolled her eyes and shifted in her seat, her gaze drifting out the window and eventually coming to a close for yet another nap after receiving the report from your mom of “Only two more hours until we’re there!”
Deciding the only thing more painful than dreading the uncertainty of where you were headed was actually hearing confirmations of the bleak outlook to be endured, you decided to follow Max’s lead, eyes closing, letting the sounds of Alice Cooper lull you into the last nap you would take on your way to your new home in Hawkins.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“And these are your new sisters,” Neil explained with no trace of enthusiasm to his son in the driveway of your new home. “Billy, don’t be rude. Shake hands,” he instructed sternly.
Billy held out his right hand for you to take, his jaw clenched, expression unchanging as he let out a flat, “Welcome home.” His handshake was firm, and he didn’t make eye contact with you or Max as he stood before you.
“Thanks,” you replied, testing a small smile. Again, his expression didn’t soften.
“Why don’t you go help Susan with some of the boxes,” Neil muttered to Billy, the stern coldness in his eyes revealing that this was more of a command than a suggestion.
“Yes, sir,” Billy responded, already stepping down the driveway toward your mom’s car.
Once Billy was out of earshot, Neil turned to you and your sister and put on his best impression of a smile. “I hope the drive wasn’t too long for you girls,” he offered.
“It was okay,” you answered him, attempting to mirror the almost smile. The three of you basked in the awkwardness before Max piped up with a question.
“Will we be sharing a room?” She already knew the answer because your mom wouldn’t shut up about how excited the two of you should be to get your own bedrooms for the first time in your lives.
“Not at all,” Neil answered almost cheerfully. “Why don’t I show you two around, and you can get settled while we bring in your things?” Neil held out an arm, gesturing toward the front door of your new home, and you and Max trudged forward with your backpacks and snacks in tow.
The house wasn’t large, but it was more than you were used to, coming from the two bedroom, one bathroom townhome you had shared with your mother and sister for the last six years. Four bedrooms, – one for you, Max, Billy, and your mom and Neil – two bathrooms, a fireplace, and a separate kitchen, living room, and dining area. You even had your own yard complete with a tire swing, and you knew that would be a big bonus for Max.
“I hope you won’t mind sharing a bathroom with Billy,” Neil sighed almost apologetically. “He keeps things clean, so you won’t have to worry about that. But if you have any trouble at all with him, you just let me know.” Neil’s eyes were icy and cold as he spoke, his teeth gritting together at the end of his sentence. You were a bit taken aback at how he talked about his own son.
“What…kind of trouble?” His expression softened immediately, and he tried again at his smile.
“Well, you know, boys will be boys. He’s a good kid, but sometimes his attitude needs some…adjusting,” he explained.  “I’ll be outside helping your mother. If you need anything, don’t be shy.” Neil rapped a couple of times on the doorframe and exited your new room. You felt all tension dissipate the moment he was gone, and you took the time to glance around your new space. You had enough room for all of your posters. A queen size bed rested in one corner with shelves above it, a full size closet at the end of the bed, and a window with a desk underneath it on the wall opposite the sleeping corner - perfect for studying after school. You could get used to this.
You were pulled from your thoughts with the muffled clatter of a box being set on the wooden floor beside your bed. Turning around, your eyes met his for the first time. You couldn’t help but notice he looked almost…scared?
“Sorry. I’ll be more careful with the next one.” Billy’s hands turned to fists at his sides, thumbs fidgeting over his knuckles, his jaw clenching at the close of his words. His appearance was unlike any guy you’d ever seen in person before.
He looked like something out of the cover art of one of your mom’s romance novels she always had tucked away in a spot she thought you and your sister wouldn’t think to look. His blonde, shoulder length curls were carefully coiffed into one of those trendy mullet styles, plush pink lips outlined a perfectly white smile, his skin still golden from the California sun, and his eyes sparkled cerulean like the surface of the ocean with a depth you couldn’t quite reach. You could tell he was stacked and muscular through his clothes, and his jawline was sharp enough to cut glass. Still, there was something about him that seemed on edge.
“Don’t worry about it,” you reassured. “I don’t think there’s anything breakable in there.” He nodded in acknowledgement and turned to exit your room. “So,” you called after him, “what’s the high school like?” You just wanted him to know you were approachable and that you had no intention of making his life Hell, especially since you were all forced to exist in the same house from now on.
“Probably worse than you’re imagining,” Billy scoffed, turning slightly back towards you. When he noticed your nerves amping up at his comment, he sighed. “It’s not that bad. Small, easy to find your way around, and everyone is…nice enough, I guess.”
“Oh, that’s good. I’ve never gone to a new school before, so I’m probably just overthinking it,” you admitted, finally slipping your backpack off and letting it plop down on the bed. Billy turned to fully face you again, his hands in his pockets, a smirk playing on his lips.
“Don’t worry about it. It’ll be fine. Plus, you’ll know at least one person. And if anyone tries to give you shit, tell them they can answer to me.” You weren’t sure what that meant, but it did make you feel a bit more confident about your upcoming first day at Hawkins High.
“Uh, okay. Well, thanks for that.” You breathed out a small laugh, and Billy’s smirk bloomed into a smile.
“Don’t mention it,” he drawled before giving you a wink and disappearing back into the hallway to fetch another load of boxes. You didn’t have time to process the fact that you’re pretty sure your new step brother just winked at you before Max poked her head around the corner of your doorframe.
“Hey,” she whispered, catching your attention. “What did he want?” She looked back toward the hallway where Billy had just retreated, and you motioned for her to come in.
“He was just bringing some stuff in, so I asked him about the school.” Max was invested now, also having expressed her worry of starting in a new class already a month into the school year.
“What did he say?”
“Mixed review, really,” you answered, both of your expressions changing to that of confusion.
“Okay…well, do you know what to expect at all?”
“Not really. But he did say if anyone messed with me to tell them they could answer to him.” Max’s eyes widened.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” She sat down on your bed, shuffling the toes of her shoes on the floor below.
“No idea,” you answered, meeting her gaze.
“Great.” Max sighed and stood up once more. “I guess I’ll start unpacking my new room.” She fluttered her eyelashes, hands waving in mock excitement. You laughed, knowing she was doing her best sarcastic impression of your mom gushing about your new home. You both rolled your eyes before she giggled and made her way back down the hallway to her own space.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your first dinner was awkward, to say the least. Neil had ordered a pizza for everyone since your bandwagon arrived close to mid afternoon, and your mom didn’t have time to cook a full meal even though she insisted she didn’t mind. You rushed to the door to help Billy bring in the boxes from the delivery boy who he happened to know from school.
“Troy, this is my …” he hesitated, breaking eye contact with the boy on the doorstep and looking down at the ground with a sigh, “new sister, Y/N.” You smiled tentatively, and offered a half wave, taking a couple of boxes off the top of the stack from Troy.
“Troy Holstad. Nice to meet you,” he obliged before giving Billy a perplexed look. Billy nodded once curtly and took the remainder of the boxes from Troy before waving him off with a “see you at school,” and closing the door. He nudged your arm to get your attention and spoke softly.
“There you go. Now you know two people,” he reasoned, beaming at you before shuffling back toward the dining room and adjusting his expression back to that of a sullen teenager. Billy carefully set the boxes down in the middle of the dining table, and you did the same. Everyone thumbed through the different boxtops to find the flavors they wanted, your mom and Neil opting for supreme while Max grabbed two slices of pepperoni, and you and Billy each took a slice of Hawaiian.
“So, Y/N, your mother tells me this is the start of your senior year,” Neil declared, his voice resonating in the silence of the dining room.
“Yeah, it is,” you replied around a mouthful of melted cheese and pineapple topping. You felt uneasy in your stomach when Neil glared daggers at you, looking up from his plate where he was using a knife and fork to cut his pizza. He sighed audibly as his nostrils flared and started again.
“Y/N, I know this is new for you, and we haven’t had much of a chance to talk about rules and expectations. In my house, we operate on a system that upholds the home and the image of the people in it appropriately. What is that system, Billy?” Billy sat up straighter in his chair, not looking up from his plate as his father addressed him..
“Respect and responsibility,” he recited, his voice almost shaking as his jaw tightened once more.
“That’s right,” Neil agreed. “Now that you’re a part of our family, you’ll learn to respect your elders and develop a keen sense of responsibility, just like the good, caring, all-American kids I know you can be.” Neil’s hard smile appeared below his mustache as he continued. “First of all, we address our elders with courtesy. When I ask you a question, you respond accordingly. Isn’t that right, Billy?”
“Yes, sir,” he muttered, his eyes still glued to his plate.
“I’m sorry,” Neil hissed. “I couldn’t hear you.” He leaned closer to the table, eyes searing into Billy as he awaited his response. Billy straightened up even more, his eyes snapping up to meet his father’s.
“Yes, sir,” his voice ricocheted in the dining room this time, his face flushing as everyone soaked in the awkward silence. You caught Max’s eye and noticed she looked afraid and perplexed as your mother kept her gaze on Neil, trying to seem like she was listening intently to him.
“See, girls, Billy knows the drill. If you have any questions, I’m sure he can straighten them out for you. I know you’re not used to this whole thing, having a man of the house, but you’ll adjust.” Neil gestured to the pizza on the table, his smile still active as he announced, “Let’s eat!” Max looked up at you from the corner of her eye, and you shook your head slightly, signaling for her not to say anything as you took another bite of your pizza. You side eyed Billy whose gaze seemed far away as he quickly finished his dinner.
“May I be excused,” Billy asked with perfect posture, taking the napkin from his lap and piling his used utensils on his plate.
“Yes you may.” Neil waved Billy off as he stood up, pushed in his chair, and took his plate to the kitchen to be washed.
You felt anxious as you saw Neil eyeing Max while she ate, and you held your breath as he spoke again.
“Tomorrow, we’ll practice using a fork, young lady,” he said sternly as Max’s cheeks burned, embarrassed to be holding her pizza at that exact moment. Neil paused and tilted an ear in her direction, hinting that he was expecting a reply.
“Y – yes, sir,” she choked out quickly, setting her pizza back down on her plate. Your mother cleared her throat and started asking Neil more about the school, the town, and how his new job was going. You let the two of them chat away as you gave Max a worried look, seeing her pick up her knife and fork to cut out a bite of her pizza. You stood up and grabbed your plate and jumped, the sound of a fist pounding on the dining table startling you off your feet. Your mom and Max gasped simultaneously as you met Neil’s eyes.
“Where do you think you’re going, Y/N?” You caught your breath and stuttered in response.
“I – I’m sorry. May I be excused?” You looked at your mom in panic, but she averted her eyes, looking at anything but the situation before her.
“That’s better.” Neil smiled again. “Of course. Don’t forget to clean your plate.”
“Thank you…sir.” You glanced at Max once more, hoping she would follow suit so she wouldn’t be yelled at. You hurried to the kitchen, rinsing your plate in the sink and setting it out on the dish rack to dry. You steadied your breathing as the tension melted away now that you weren’t in a close proximity to Neil.
After the awkward and almost frightening dinner, all you wanted to do was talk to your sister. You knew she would be looking for an escape after enduring Neil’s intensity, so you put on your coat and grabbed your paperback copy of The Outsiders, leaving the house through the front door.
You shuffled through the dried leaves across the lawn to the only tree in the yard and perched yourself on the tire swing, propping your feet up and opening your book to your marked page. A few lines in, you heard a clanging sound followed by a sigh, and your eyes followed the noise over to a blue Camaro with the hood up. Billy was standing over the engine, using the back of his hand to swipe stray curls out of his eyes, a dirty rag draped over his shoulder.
He didn’t seem to notice you were there as he worked, tinkering with a wrench, grunting and sighing every so often. You pretended to carry on reading while you watched him work. After all, looking wasn’t a crime, and he was quite the sight to see. After a few more minutes, he set his wrench on the edge of the Camaro’s hood and grasped the hem of his sweat-speckled t-shirt with both hands, lifting it up and over his head, tossing it on the roof of his car. Your cheeks turned scarlet at the sight of his toned chest and chiseled abs sparkling with a sheen of sweat in the crisp October air.
Your gaze snapped to your book quickly, and you glued your eyes to the words on the page, determined not to look up again. Your heart hammered in your chest, and you swore you could hear the blood flowing in your ears when a voice startled you.
“Hey, are you okay?” You jolted upright at Max’s question.
“Jesus, you scared the shit out of me,” you breathed.
“Sorry. Are you okay?” She repeated her question, concern behind her bright blue eyes. “You look really flushed.”
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine,” you answered, forcing yourself to keep your eyes far away from where Billy was working on his car. “What about you?” Max used the ropes of the swing to lift herself up, and you moved aside to make room for her on the tire.
“I’m fine. What the hell is up with him?” Max looked almost afraid while the two of you recounted Neil’s strange behavior at dinner, coming to the conclusion that this move might not have been for the best like your mom kept insisting.
“All we can do is follow the rules and stay out of his way, I guess,” you sigh, feeling defeated. “I don’t know how far he’ll go, but Billy seems to be pretty scared of him,” you almost whisper, leaning in closer to Max. She glanced over at Billy who was still fixated on his car.
“A guy that big scared of his dad? I don’t even want to think about why,” she shuddered, her eyes dropping to the ground.
“Hey.” You touched her shoulder, and she looked up at you. “I won’t let anything happen to you. Got it?” She gave you a small smile, nodding her understanding, but you could see the anxiety behind her eyes. “We’re going to be okay.”
“I know,” she assured you. You smiled at her and grabbed the ropes of the swing to climb out of the tire. Tossing your book onto a pile of leaves next to the tree, you stood behind Max and gripped the ropes as you walked the tire backwards before giving it a hard push. Max giggled as she swung back and forth, spinning slow circles and crying out, “You’re going to make me dizzy!”
The two of you laughed together as the sun started to set on the town of Hawkins, Indiana, and even though you weren’t sure what the coming days would hold, you knew you had each other to ease the burdensome future in your new home with your new family.
