Eggtober 25 Imposter or “The Egg Plant” Clip Studio Paint, Gouache Brush. 17 Colors, 40 minutes. Did you know the Eggplant, was named that because when the Brits first encountered it, it was a smaller pale varietal that was the shape and color of an egg? The reason Eggplant (or Aubergine as some call them) are known by the wider western world to be big purple phallic things of emoji fame is because, well, the purple ones have an attractive color and a higher yield because the fruits are bigger. So we just kept the name for the initial variety and slapped it on the big purple things we started growing and it stuck around to the point that we basically don’t even see the namesake variety anymore and it took me some embarrassingly long number of years to learn that Eggplants got that name for, well, an obvious reason. But that leaves a question... Is the eggplant in my painting an aubergine? Or is it an egg that someone “planted” there to bamboozle you all? Is the title leading you to an assumption? Or is the art? A very tricky art for a very tricky holiday coming up. I have something special planned for Halloween, but this was going to be my Halloween entry before I came up with a better idea. A trick and a treat, so to speak. It was always my intent to be cheeky on at least a few of these, but my intent was to have as few inedible eggs as possible (for example, a Fabergé Egg would be intricate and exquisite to paint, but the restriction to eggs that are edible not only spares me hours of learning to paint filigree, but also challenges me to come up with an edible egg every day. Similarly, while many eggs in their shells are quite interesting to draw, including some famous video game eggs, I feel like it would be a bit cheep (haha, get it? Cheap? Bird pun?) to just... throw up a robin’s egg one day and an ostrich egg the next and keep just relying on the shape and shell color to tell you something.) All manner of eggs are a decent challenge, of course, and I would never disparage anyone for doing an entire eggtober of just eggs in their shells, but as Eggtober was primarily inspired by @quezify and his fried eggs, I wanted to stick with that edible theme. I may even come back next year and do an Eggtober just entirely of eggs in their shells, or entirely inedible eggs like those of video game fame. But I promised myself that for this Eggtober, I would strive to do nothing that wasn’t an incredible, edible, egg. So whether or not this egg is an imposter, it should be perfectly edible! ( 2023.8. 27 ) — Today is the last day Phantom of the Opera will be in Osaka (it’s going to Yokohama next April), so I came to a themed lunch at a French restaurant with six courses that was absolutely lovely.

First was “The Prologue” course: smoked salmon with caviar. It smelled and tasted incredible.

Next, the appetizer was a (very!!!) fluffy egg and sea urchin soufflé. It was so fluffy it made me giggle, tbh!

The soup course made me laugh because… the actual part of the bowl for the soup was SO small compared to the dish itself!

The fish course was shrimp wrapped in bacon with eggplant, zucchini, tomato… so good. It was made to resemble the boat where the Phantom takes Christine Daaé to his lair beneath the opera house.

The meat course was supposed to be Sweden inspired since the character of Christine is from Sweden. (It has one meatball and some mashed potatoes, hehe)

And finally… the dessert. Same as the cafe next door that is also doing a Phantom collab (I was there a couple of weeks ago!) but I’m not complaining! ✨

Overall, I’m so glad I came. I will dearly miss seeing the signs advertising Phantom every day at Osaka Station, but I look forward to seeing it in Yokohama next year!

🤡 What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh?

-If you know my writing you know there's SO MANY LMAO. My current favourite is the scene in tattoos when Kai is moving out of his apartment and Tyson’s helping him. And Tyson tells him the cactus his ex girlfriend gave him is fake. And Kai just THROWS IT OUT THE WINDOW.

When I first made up that scene I told my partner and he laughed so hard. Now I make jokes in my car about throwing stuff out the window all the time. Lmao. 😅

😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?

-hmmm nothing comes immediately to mind… but I guess I brutally kill off Ryu all the time? OH WAIT WAIT WAIT!!! it's the Easter egg in tattoos that NO BODY CAUGHT. 😡 it's hard to catch unless you're binge reading the chapters I think. But it's the reason why Hiro fired Tyson etc. I didn't have enough time in the plot to fit it into an arc. But I thought it was obvious, yet no one caught on 😅 so I guess I'll take it to my grave? LMAO 

🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?

-hmmm this one's tough!! I have a lot that I would say are pretty intense! The end of tattoos is definitely a wild ride! But my dark AU is also super edgy and dark! I'd say wildest ride ;) would have to be the talaxjulia smut ficlet and the blindfold tyka ficlet. In terms of intense story id say its a hard tie between Tattoos/ Dark AU/ and the BEGA arc where Tyson joins Bega.

-ooohhh so I always listen to music when I write, but I can't listen to music with lyrics because it's too distracting and messes with my word choices! I usually turn on a Playlist that matches the scene I'm writing! So if it's a magical scene I'll do an adventure Playlist, a happy scene, a chillstep Playlist, a battle scene I'll do an epic orchestral Playlist… you get it! But I tend to get inspiration from songs when I listen to them when I'm not writing! I make up scenes in my head! And that's how a lot of scenes I make are made! So… an example… would be…

💖 What made you start writing?

-I have always done little bits of writing. Only because I make such intricate plots in my head and they need to come to life somehow! Art and comics are fun, but to TRULY express my storytelling, I need words. Very specific words. So over many years I've practiced the craft so that I can tell my stories *just right*. The truth is, I always say I'm not a very strong writer, I'm a strong storyteller. 

💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?

-aw this is a tough one! I'd have to say the Dark AU. I mean I put Kai through hell and back in that fic LOL. But on a personal note, I never planned to upload it! I wrote it during a really tough time in my life. At around the same time I was writing 'It's a bit of a long story' I came up with the alternate story of 'Dark AU' (I couldn't think of a better name LOL). I created 'it's a bit of a long story' after I drew a comic and realized I needed to get this story on paper. I never planned to upload it. But after I had a few friends read it they told me I HAD to. So I made an archive account. I still wasn't active in Fandom at that point. After I did that, I started to spiral. And although I created 'long story' as a distraction, I then created Dark AU as a therapeutic way of venting. So re reading it I find the plot SUPERB. But when I look into it more deeply, I realize just how much I've knitted in characters and scenes to suit myself. Which was never intentional. I actually had a session with an old therapist where we psychoanalyzed some parts of it 🤣 it was really interesting and eye opening for sure!

Favorite thing: Pumpkin soup

His dad left them in the fall which is why he has an aversion to most of the autumn seasonal flavors

He was really attached to his dad as a baby so when he abandoned them it hurt Sebastian really badly

The one thing he can’t seem to stay away from is pumpkin soup though

Robin actually has cooked it since he can remember

It was his dads favorite too

It brings back the good memories he has from when his parents were together

Robin only makes it when Maru and Demetrius are out together doing sciency things

Before Kent could afford the mermaid pendant for Jodi, his mom gave him an old tigerseye ring to propose with

He used to sit on his grandma’s lap as a kid and she would tell him all about his grandpa who died before Sam was born

He was poor, too, when they got married and he managed to trade some manual labor for the ring

He was just about to sit down for one of his favorites, Tom Kha soup, and gladly prepared a bowl for Penny

She had never been close to Elliott even though she saw him at the library often

She tries to cook it (it’s terrible)

Emily is a vegetarian

The first time she ever tried stir fry was right before she moved to the valley

New beginnings were terrifying but Leah knew everything would be okay

Hello today I added the crispy eggplant and shrimp flavor "Red cabbage stir-fry" came to the dish.

Hi everyone! Beni here and welcome back to Let’s Not Starve! This month we are making foods that we like to eat during SUMMER! This past week was special (if you live in the United States like we do) because wednesday was Independence Day~ It is very common to grill food outside and watch fireworks so Lady A really wanted to grill some meat and veggies. I mean, she REALLY wanted to grill! But Lady A doesn’t own a patio grill so…. What should we do???

Well the answer is… mini camp grill! Haha… This is a little grill that Lady A likes to bring with her when camping outdoors. It’s about the size of a book when folded down and can fit some coal or chopped firewood in the little chamber. Very compact and handy when backpacking in the great outdoors!

SUMMER FOODS - MINI BBQ

For this bento Lady A grilled some stuffed eggplant. These are mini eggplants! That way Lady A can fit two stuffed halves on the grill at a time hehe. The egg plants are stuffed with carved out eggplant (of course), ground pork, egg, smoked paprika, salt and pepper and just a little bit of soy sauce for coloring. On the side there are some shrimp and cauliflower florets that she grilled in a foil pocket in olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic!

PPKM Life day 1

Today i woke up early and immedietely cooked a fried eggs and eggplants. Then, i drying my clothes & cleaning my house. Next, i drink my coffee while remake my resume because i want to intern in some company during ppkm life but not yet finished because i can't download in website i used.

In fact, i don't know what i want to do in ppkm life. In ppkm life we can't go out from house when it's not important in pandemi covid. Now, I want to learn something new that i'm intrested it is a digital marketing and i want to be content creator in Tiktok apps because i want to educate people about what i learned in collage that is nutrition food. I feel insecured and unable, but i want to do it hehe. Hopefully, i can reach many many peoples to get new information from my account. Last, i must using english language to write in tumblr, watching youtube/netflix, read article in english too because i want to good in english and get toefl >550.

I don't had much to do today, but I felt busy.

NYC/ Newark 2017 Summary & Food Rec

So my friend convinced me to go to a BTS concert with her in Newark since it was “my fault” by introducing the band to her. I had also wanted to go to NYC since I've never been in (just through) NY. So here’s a very long summary of what worked/didn’t work so future me or any travelers can plan better. 

Free Manhattan attractions include:

Central Park

Time’s Square

9/11 Memorial 

St. Patrick’s Cathedral

FIT Museum

National Museum of the American Indian 

Fearless Girl and Charging Bull statues

Staten Island Ferry (wanted to see Lady Liberty but no time)

High Line (interested but didn’t go)

Chelsea Galleries  (interested but didn’t go)

Brooklyn Cat Cafe is a must if you want to try out a cat cafe. Way cheaper than the other 3 places in Manhattan ($5/every 30min). They do not serve any food or drinks so it’s not really a cafe...but who wants expensive drinks when YOU CAN PICK UP THE CATS. The cats are very chill (and soft). They are surprisingly skinny but well taken care of. There’s one rounder cat that gives head butts. No hissing or random swipes. And there are kittens too! They have a bathroom cat that stays in the bathroom to look at you pee. My sister picked him up and brought him out but once he was free he went back to the bathroom. All the cats have claws but they wiggle themselves away if they don’t want to be picked up. Or they can escape to the higher selves to avoid humans. I don’t understand why almost all cat cafes don’t let people pick up the cats...you’ve already signed an agreement that all injuries are your fault. Plus the cats there become use to human contact and little kids which makes adopting them faster. Which is probably why most of the cats there are relatively young.  

Stay: Flushing’s YMCA hostel per my sister’s recommendation. She had stayed before and liked it. She is not allowed to plan for anymore trips ahem. So here’s the breakdown.

Pros:

Cheap prices

Use of facilities if you want to exercise

Conveniently near Flushing’s food

Fridge/TV/WIFI

Bath towels provided

Microwave (shared in hallway)

Near the metro station

Cons:

No discounted parking (it is NY but eh)

Basically rooms/layout is a dorm (small rooms, shared bathroom, bunk beds)

Bathrooms are locked with only 2 stalls

Keys to rooms and bathrooms look identical...even staff hands out wrong keys (we shared 1 bathroom key for 3 ladies)

Showers (x3) with curtains and a glass door (that locks) divides showers and toilet stalls

Maintenance worker could come in between 10pm-6am

Difficulty controlling room temperature- they have a central heat that runs 24/7 and an AC unit to plug/turn on if it got too hot (didn’t think this still exist)

Takes at least 1 hour to get from Flushing to Manhattan

Transportation: Metro. Cost $2.75, including all transfers. Takes some time to get use to all the different lines but overall not too bad with the smartphone to help. If traveling to Newark from Manhattan, a PATH metro card need to be purchased (same price) since a regular metro card will not be accepted. We tried to transfer from Penn Station but for some reason that day, we couldn’t so we had to go to the next stop at 64th. It’s one transfer from Manhattan to Newark and a 15 minute walk to the Prudential Center.

By the way, the concert was amazing. Seeing the boys there doing all the complicated dances was great. I also felt really old in the crowd of screaming teenagers and grumpy parents. Very impressed with the leader’s English...it was really good and he was basically the group’s translator. 

Food: The best part hehe

Manhattan:

Little Italy Pizza: Convenient and cheap NY pizza. Slices are huge and combo available for selected pizza types. Grab and go kind of place. Nothing over $7.

Harry & Ida’s: Place smells of delicious smoked meat. I got the Sweater Weather which was unfortunately nope. There’s an overwhelmingly taste of sweet apples (even though it didn’t have apples) that took over the sandwich. It was like a dessert. Maybe it’s the sauce with the tomatoes and/or eggplant, I don’t really know how it got that sweet. The pork loin meat that I did pick out was good...very disappointed that I couldn’t taste it in the sandwich. I really should have ordered literally anything else but the ingredients in the sandwich sound delicious. $12-19, for sandwich only. More for extra (like drink or sides) and there is a combo with selected sandwich types.

Otafuku(?): I think this was the place with the takoyaki covered in katsuobushi. NYU people are lucky to have this place nearby. Japanese street food mostly, I don’t think they serve anything heavy.

Flushing:

No idea what the place is called...but if you squeeze yourself into one of the markets along Main St., there are several vendors in a narrow room that sell baozi, shumai, youtiao, onion and yam pancakes, zongzi, and stir fry entrees. Entire ducks are displayed in the windows for purchase. Outside is a fruit stand. Mostly the bosses there know Mandarin but can answer in English. Cheap option for breakfast (4 baozi for $2.75). Cash only. 

Also no idea where the place is called...bubble tea and bbq kabob sticks are sold from different vendors in a long room located near the metro station. There’s a giant bubble tea figure over the building. Delicious cheap eats with drinks nothing over $8 and sticks nothing over $3/stick. Kabob is cash only and tea place takes credit cards.

Tai Pan Bakery: Delicious savory and sweet bread! I had an egg pork thingie that was amazing. Lots of varieties and cheap. Cash and maybe credit cards?

Spring Shabu Shabu: Hot pot place with free buffet of vegetables, noodles, and fish cakes. You make your own sauces. Individual pots. Meat and seafood will have to be purchased. So good with lots of options in their free buffet. We shared some meat and seafood and payed in the upper $10s-lower $20s. Will take credit cards.

Dunhuang Lanzhou Beef Noodle: They were still busy at 9pm! Delicious authentic noodles that are under $12. There’s a lot of competition around so noodle places are cheap. Takes credit cards.

Xi'an Famous Foods: Pretty good with to go options for noodles? Which is kinda weird cause the noodles won’t be the same. Nothing over $13 and they take credit cards.

Mapo Galmaegi: Very generous. Gave us lots of free pickled vegetables even when we didn’t order Korean bbq. And they would refill it for free too! Also gave us jasmine tea instead of water for free. Service was ridiculously fast. The pho was delicious. $8-25 for lunch options that aren't Korean bbq.  Takes credit cards.

I was really happy after summer but there was a lot of drama going on at the time with family/groupchats/etc. I feel like I have more friends now and I'm happily busy and this blog is doing really well and I have good grades and got into a class I wanted to take this summer and saw Got7 like 3 weeks so everything just feels rosy right now
