All of this focus on Azriel’s horny feelings for Elain, but can we please talk about how Elain completely led her moment with Az in the bonus chapter?

Elain closed the distance, and her breathing quickened as she again paused, now a scant foot away.

Azriel let his shadows whisk away the box as she said softly, "Put it on me?"

His head went quiet. But he took the necklace, opening the clasp as she exposed her back, sweeping her hair up in one hand to bare her long, creamy neck.

Azriel's fingers lingered at her nape, atop the first knob of her spine. Slowly, Elain pivoted into his touch. Until his palm lay flat against her neck.

"I should go," Elain said, but made no move to leave.

Her arousal drifted up to him, and his eyes nearly rolled back in his head at the sweet scent. He'd beg on his knees for a chance to taste it.

Elain shuddered, drifting closer. So close one deep breath would brush her breasts against his chest.

“Yes" Elain breathed, like she read the decision. Just this taste in the dead of the longest night of the year, where only the Mother might witness them.

Elain's mouth parted slightly, her eyes scanning his before fluttering shut.

Offer and permission.

Girlie went for what she wants and Azriel, ever the gentleman, read her cues perfectly and only took what she offered. I love a couple built with respect and mutual attraction, there’s truly nothing hotter.

Been having a headcanon all morning that Azriel and Elain will have a daughter named Azalea conceived between some of those bushes in the garden during one of their "clandestine meetings"...

Besides being a very near combination of their names...

... Which also reminded me of when Elain was in Illyria:

I think the main purpose of Azriel x Elain and the bonus chapter was to show us how they unknowingly helped each other and set up their future books.

Elain said she didn't want male, but quite clearly would have slept with Azriel in the bonus chapter. I'm think Azriel fucked his chances when he said "this was a mistake" rather than literally anything else, because Elain obviously took it as a rejection and closed the door on that relationship by returning the necklace. But now she is in fact open to a relationship with a male, which is a huge step for her. Lucien has a chance, but let's see if he's the first. My crack theory is Elthazar happening before Elucien. Balthazar is basically an Illyrian Lucien. He fights with his words and is against unnecessary violence, plus he saved Nesta so there's his in with Elain. Its a perfect spanner because if Azriel's getting his own book/mate, then there needs to be a new obstacle for Elucien. Also, imagine the chaos if SjM made this happen and sparked a new ship war before the last book! The carnage.

For Azriel, he needed to go after Elain to show that what he felt for Mor wasn't actually love. It was infatuation and he was so easily able to switch it to Elain. He's chasing a mating bond because not having one confirms he's unworthy, and what happened in his childhood was his fault. So much trauma. He needs to meet someone who understands his pain, who feels unworthy too, so they can help fill the broken pieces of each other. Its codependent but most relationships are in romance books! So then, how fun for the second part of the bonus chapter to put his mate right in front of him, but he's too traumatised to see it. Gwyn wasn't given such a fleshed out, tragic back story to be shoved aside. And the spark in Azriel's chest was unnecessary if they aren't in fact mates. In HOFAS, Azriel states he has no mate and no partner, which works fine for Gwynriel because friendship can developed off book, but romance (in a romance series) cannot. So, time skipping forward with a recap on how "he couldn't imagine he once questioned if they were friends" is enough back story to continue forward. We'll get a friendship to lovers/healing story with the obstacle being themselves!

What if the heartbeat Elain hears is not Lucien, not anyone else but Koshchei's?

According to the old myths, Koshchei is deathless and cannot be killed because he has his heart/his soul placed in a box or an egg (it depends on a version of a story). You cannot harm him unless you find the place he hid his heart and destroy it first.

So what if Elain is the one who hears it. The one who finds it. The one who destroys it.

Maybe that's why Gwydion was introduced to us first? Maybe that is the sword - maybe together with the Truth Teller - to be the one destroying Koshchei's heart?

I cannot stop thinking about it now.

E/riel’s really like to use the line in ACOWAR “Elain stepped out of a shadow” before she kills the king. I’ve seen some use that line to prove how Elain will make a good spy.

elain wants to be seen, why would she ever want to be a spy? they don't listen to their fave at all. in that same book, she said that no one ever looks at her, not really. meaning, she's been overlooked her entire life. reduced to nothing more than a beautiful woman with, seemingly, no other redeeming qualities. why would you want her to hide and diminish herself for an occupation that she has, so far anyway, shown zero interest in?

her "fans" only reinforce the negative things antis say about her, especially when they go around shouting about how "pretty women get men to buy them things and real women don't work". they claim to be all about feminism but by saying this, they're basically saying that she's boring and useless and only good for being pretty for a man, that she can't possibly offer anything of value beyond that

we may not know much about elain but what we do know is that she is often kinder than others, she's softer too and has shown she doesn't care for violence in any capacity outside of defending those she loves. she also likes to garden and bake, both of which are not just leisurely hobbies. they take hard work and determination. clearly elain likes hard work and getting dirty when needed, it's just that nobody has ever told her to, or let her do it beyond her feminine activities. stop stifling this woman and shoving her into one box to make her more acceptable for the man of your choosing. if you truly liked her character, you would accept her as in and any choice she may decide to make

I hated ACOSF "extra chapter" and here's why

First of all, I hated because of the Rhysand we receive in it. He's very angry and he treats Az like shit.

Why would the same person that sacrificed Prythian and only saved a city, that his nightmares where solely about his brothers being raped and stolen from happiness; why would this person ask Azriel if he thinks he deserved not only something but someone. Why.

Why would the person that was intentionally ignoring his mating bond in order to let the other part of the bond being happy, the person that knows that the mating bond doesnt guarantee love but "genetically better children" force a relationship that Elain has been forcefully putting away from herself for years? Why?

The Rhysand we know will likely kill Prythian entirely to make his family happy, to guarantee their happiness.

I hated the way he acted towards Az.

I hated how we are presented as "Az took the gift he already gave someone and gave it to another" TO GWYN.

Like ???? Gwyn doesnt deserve to be second option, I dont give a fuck about what any of you say about the shadows and stuff.

One minute he is all about "I dont care anymore" anout to be on his knees for Elain and the next one he is giving THAT FCKNG NECKLACE TO SOMEONE ELSE? Like ????

Gwyn deserves more than that. Elain deserves more than that. But most of all Az deserves much more than just "adapt". Let the man be happy for fucks sake.
