Finally Starting the Main Bus!
This dinky-looking train station is the first part of something I've been planning since the middle of February: A proper train-fed Main Bus. I've built smaller main busses in Factorio saves that I didn't blog about, and a mini-bus in the starter base, but this will be the first time I've done it proper. Each step I take her is one step farther than I've ever gone.
Most of those steps will be steps to and from my starter base, which is almost out of copper but has an automated iron supply, meaning it can produce all the belts I need without issue. Also some of the other stuff I need—assemblers and inserters and furnaces.
Speaking of which: This train station is for unloading iron. I intend to unload four belts of iron, turning one into gears and one into steel, with the other two just being iron plates used in things which require iron plates.
According to my calculations, turning one belt of iron into steel requires 48 electric furnaces. This results in significantly less than one belt of steel, but if that turns out to be a problem, I'll fix it then. Turning a belt of iron into gears requires only ten assemblers, and creates much closer to a full belt of gears. The end result of all that planning might look something like this:
After rereading my planning documents, I realized I needed three or four belts of iron plus gears and steel, and quickly shuffled around some belts. In retrospect the way I shuffled the belts isn't gonna help, so I should just plan to add an iron stock-up stop later down the line. Speaking of which, at some point I forgot what size of train I'd designed all the stations for!
Needless to say, I didn't notice this until after I'd set up unloading stations for electronic circuits and copper, complete with belts to the actual bus and a long train line which future mid-bus unloading stops could branch off of. So I need to either redesign the train loading stations or the unloading stations.
And what better time to take a break than the realization that you'll need to rebuild a decent chunk of your base? Actually, since I'm in this situation because I forgot some key details about my own factory, there are probably a bunch of better times. But I have to take a break eventually.

Thinking about Sci-Fi and Fantasy
Robots learning about ghosts, demons, etc., etc., and taking precautions for those just as seriously as you would any other hazard.
Robotic or automated ships, with either a few ghosts of their own, or having a slight fear of ending up like old stories, ex: the Mary Celeste.
Extra precautions put into electronics and robots to keep them from being shorted out by the presence of magic/energy manipulation.
Robots swapping stories about supernatural beings and occurrences along with their human friends.
Weird stories about space, especially given that I can see robots being used for tasks too dangerous for human personnel. The robots or AI having a stronger sense of honesty when it comes to documenting these stories, and their senses having literal logs to back them up, would make for an interesting body of evidence.
AI that control certain ships and facilities having clear protocol when it comes to a supernatural event. Perhaps they might've thought it was extraneous, and then something starts to happen...
Dimensional tears? Odd ripples in time and space? How does something like a robot, or an AI, react? Do they try to protect the humans with them? Or would they prioritize their own safety? Would it impact them physically, or would they be unharmed? Would that be contingent on whether or not they have organic parts?
Would there be cross-species friendships, so to speak, where you have AI or robots engaging with supernatural entities/creatures?

Official Report on The Intransitionalist Chronotopologies of Kenji Siratori: Appendix 8.2.3 is a xenopoetic data/dada anthology that documents the activities of the artist collective The Ministry of Transrational Research into Anastrophic Manifolds. The anthology results from an experimental approach to impersonal literary composition. Similar to surrealist definitions, but on the scale of a technical document, members of the Ministry—poets, musicians, novelists, painters, curators, artists, scientists, philosophers, and physicians—were asked to offer a microfiction, poem, essay, fictional citation, or computer code, in the form of a footnote or annotation to a glitch-generated novel by iconoclastic Japanese artist Kenji Siratori; however, each participant wrote their contribution without any access to or knowledge about the nature of Siratori’s source text. After collecting the contributions, the “footnotes” were each algorithmically linked to an arbitrary word from Siratori’s novel. The result is a work of xenopoetic emergence: a beautifully absurd, alien document scintillating with strange potency. Bringing together algorithmically and AI-generated electronic literature with analogue collage and traditional modes of literary composition, the Ministry refuses to commit solely to digital, automated, or analogue art and instead seeks technological mutualism and a radically alien future for the arts. Accompanied by a groundbreaking original score by electro-acoustic duo Wormwood, the anthology offers the radical defamiliarization and weird worlds of science fiction, but now the strangeness bites back on the level form. Readers should expect to discover strange portals from which new ways of thinking, feeling, and being emerge. A conceptual and experimental anthology, Official Report on The Intransitionalist Chronotopologies of Kenji Siratori inaugurates collective xenopoetic writing and the conceit that the future of art will consist of impersonal acts of material emergence, not personal expression.
