i need you all to know that this is one of my favourite cut scenes from Batman: Arkham Knight—

The entrance. The laugh. The slight inflictions in his tone even through the distorted voice. His body language. The way he speaks about where to aim their shots. The absolute certainty in every word. The way he talks about where to hit Batman whilst he's stood there right in front of him.

And of course. My most favourite bit. The ACE chemicals worker saying "Please." and the Knight just tipping his head in near disinterest to address the plea with, "You say something?". The sheer mock in his voice, the condescending lilt undercutting everything he says.

You know what, i did say something. It's please please please can you talk to me like that? Can i pat you on the head. And can i help topple your enemies and can i suck you off??? And-

etz hayyim (“tree of life”) synagogue in chania, crete, greece. the building dates to the 14th-15th centuries, and was originally a venetian catholic church. it was acquired by chania's jewish community and converted into a synagogue in the late 17th century. chania's jews were deported due to the holocaust in 1944, after which the building remained abandoned until restoration in the 1990s.

romaniote jews are the oldest jewish community in europe and one of the oldest in the world, thought to have lived in and around present day greece since before 70 ce. they have their own liturgy that is unrelated to the more commonly used european ones (ashkenazic and sephardic).

I’ve been thinking about embroidery as catchall for “stifling useless upper-class feminine activity”* because of Catherine, Called Birdy. So I thought it was kind of funny when I got to the end of The Long Winter and Laura—who generally likes to romp and be outside, who seems bummed out that she’s not allowed to do all the farm work that a boy would do, who doesn’t want to wear a corset—gets a bunch of embroidery silks for late Christmas and is totally jazzed about it. Like obviously that is a totally unremarkable set of preferences for a person to have, and the gender politics of these books are complicated to say the least, but it’s such a Trope that I had to laugh a little.

*Not a bad trope, IMO, but you can tell when an author has put some thought into it and when they’re just cribbing from other authors.

putting this under a read more not because it's long but just because of the subject

anyway i do feel like she would be into something much gorier than i'm about to get into but she knows it would be too much for your weak human body and she likes playing with you far too much to risk accidentally killing you.

instead, she puts more of a focus on carving rather than slicing and sawing. her favorite dagger (only the best for her favorite toy) easily breaks the skin of your lower stomach, blood trickling to your sides as the tip of the blade drags along your skin. your weak attempts to hold back your own grunts and gasps of pain only make lady ashmore smirk down at you. with her free hand, she swipes some blood off your abdomen with her thumb before promptly sucking it off.

"mmm," she moans at the taste. even as you wince in pain, your hands curled into tight fists around bunched and slightly bloodied sheets, she can see the lust in the eyes locked on her mouth. you're getting off to this just as much as she is -- she's spent so long digging this knife into unwilling victims that she's forgotten how good it feels to have someone take it so eagerly. it's intoxicating; she has to remind herself not to get too carried away with this.

she doesn't want to lose this. she doesn't want to lose you.

when she's done carving 'MINE' above your cunt, the letters crude and crimson, your chest is heaving with uneven, ragged breaths.

"i think this will get the message across quite nicely, don't you?" she speaks sweetly, bringing her dagger up to her lips. slowly, she drags her tongue up the edge of the blade, collecting every drop of your blood left on it. she keeps eye contact with you until the very end, then her eyes flutter shut as she moans. when they open again, she reaches down to stroke your cheek as you gaze up at her, breathless and devoted. "maybe the next man to try to bed you will think twice now before touching my property."

"thank-- thank you," you manage to get out.

pleased, she smiles, a sadistic twist to the expression. "oh, don't thank me yet, dear. we're just getting started."
