Dear listener, every year I run a fine-tooth comb over the internet to discover one ‘new’ type of music that is without a doubt… good batshit. I have long maintained that there are two kinds of bat guano in music: good batshit and bad batshit. If it’s passionate, experimental, entertaining, bizarre, and scares the piss out of modern puritans… that’s nutrient-rich good batshit! If it’s totally derivative of other acts, openly preachy, and flat-out boring all while desperately trying to be edgy… that’s a festering pile of bad batshit. This week, I’m going to expose you to music by Machine Girl. Smash play on the track just above, it’s a music video for their song Ginger Claps on their 2014 album Wlfgrl. In 2024, I've been looking for gym jams. Y'know, utterly chaotic music you can listen to at the gym that makes you work out harder and longer than usual!? I happen to work with a group of young guys, and they always have the weirdest music playing in the workstation area. Being an old man compared to the pups, I often laugh or cringe at their screamo, emo violence and metalcore garbage. In just the last fortnight or so, I was passing through the workstation area and heard a very peculiar and strangely attractive sound. It reminded me of a hybrid between Aphex Twin and KMFDM. So, I memorized the band name, showed up at the gym to sample their tracks, and ended up staying on the treadmill for an extra hour as my ear canals climaxed at this fast-paced new sound. Their tunes made my body move, and how! I basically just started listening to this duo from Long Island, NY, so I'm hardly a subject matter expert, but despite my best efforts, I just can’t stop sampling this eery and tasty batshit! I can plainly state I have not heard a single other musical act that sounds exactly like this, and as of this posting I will declare it to be the most chaotic music I’ve ever installed on my blog. But there is an order to this chaos, as it is fundamentally rooted in the structures and schools of punk, digital hardcore, rave and industrial. Talk about a messy emotional ride; in some instances, their individual tunes are like listening to 10-20 soundscapes mashed into one 3-minute track. Apparently, if you listen to their tunes deep enough, you’ll find themes of gender identity, sexuality and a criticism of capitalism. So, if you’re into those themes, have at it! Me!? I'm just here for the extremely crazy breakbeats and the total experimental experience they have to offer. Just below, you’ll find Necro Culture Vulture from their 2020 album The Ugly Art. Especially if you’re a fitness-inspired gym rat like me these days, try this batshit on for size when you’re on the tread, it’ll all suddenly make sense if it hasn’t already!

This year, this is the most creative and inspiring new-to-my ears music I’ve had the good fortune to stumble across. I commend them for their explosive tracks that rapidly ascend into something akin to an epic score right out of a modern AAA video game. I've just finished watching the show—I watched the first season when it originally aired (it was the most perfect thing to watch at age 17), but never finished the series until now. I'm the oldest of the band. I'm a bit of a self-proclaimed older sister to the others and I feel super protective of them. When I'm not making music with the band you can usually find me working on my comic or some other artistic pursuit. I'm a chronically exhausted college student. You can tell what songs I wrote by them having a more jazzy or melancholy tone to them or just being bat-shit off the walls insane. Some of my inspirations are MCR, Scene Queen, , Set It Off, and Demi Lovato (for some reason).

I’m that guy with the neon green hair in the blog’s pfp lol. pronouns are he/him, xe/xem/xyr, and it/its. I take a lot of influence from older punk rock and, surprisingly, country and folk music. my favorite bands are My Chemical Romance, Oingo Boingo, They Might Be Giants, The Cure, Talking Heads, Bikini Kill, Shilpa Ray, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Iron Maiden, The Magnetic Fields, The Daniel Pemberton TV Orchestra, Lemon Demon, Man or Astro-Man, Radiohead (not in a pretentious way, I swear), Will Wood, Creedence Clearwater Revival… oh boy, there’s a lot. I like music! I tend to disappear at unpredictable intervals due to chronic pain/fatigue and parental restrictions, but I always come back. I like writing songs about things I’m passionate about, which is often personal, sometimes political, and every now and then a ballad about freaky-looking deep sea creatures. or weevils. I keep my dad’s old stenobook by my bedside to write lyrics in - he wrote lyrics for the Panama City punk bands he was in in 1990-ish in there, and I figured I could put it to good use again after all these years. he’s cool with it. see you around, and stay safe out there 🪲

I'm sassy, I'm trashy and (if you pay me enough) I'll let you put it in my ass-y. I'm the band's second oldest and the token British person. I use any pronouns, I literally don't care what you call me xx. My music taste is all over the place, having been raised by a metalhead and a former chav during a time where pop punk and emo were more mainstream. I'd say my biggest inspirations in terms of performing are Freddie Mercury and Ronnie James Dio. You'll be able to tell which songs are written by me because they're shit! I'm not much good at writing, but I'm great at partying like I'm Paris Hilton. When I'm not doing band stuff, you can find me shopping, watching/reading/playing anything DC comics related or just sorta... Staring into space. Men's wedding rings are HORRIBLE

ok OK OK OK here we go, first rant on my rant-centric blog:

These fkin things

I hate these straight boy rings with such a burning passion in the pit of my soul. They are so so so ugly. When I see men talking about how cool these tungsten rings are I feel like I'm going insane... like, are we looking at the same thing?

Mixing metals? That brushed, milled-metal look?????

the fucking bezel on the side????

Ugh don't even get me started on how I feel about black metals in jewelry to begin with.

If you're wearing this ring, this is what I interpret about you: You are an 8th grader in 2013 who is very very proud of the hand-me-down blackberry phone that your dad gave you after he got the newer model. You carry a leather briefcase to school, are experimenting with being a little emo (but not fully emo) and you're a little nervous about going into 9th grade and not being the oldest grade in school anymore.

side note: a lot of these rings appear to have some kind of clear material in the middle that looks like resin and I just KNOW that after a few years of wear the middle of these rings will be yellowed and cloudy and someday these rings will sit in a thrift or antique store and some cool college girl will pick it up, show it to her friend, laugh, and put it down again.

and you may say,

Oh, but Ms. Rat, Tungsten is great and cheap and really durable and they can make it look like a regular gold wedding band check it out?

idk why but this SHAPE of wedding ring just makes me feel itchy. Like, It looks so obviously milled, like someone took a hunk of cheap metal and milled it down into a ring in 5 minutes (which they probably did!) its like, here you go Man™ here is your slop so no one would dare think you own something lovingly crafted, we just threw this together so no one would think you care. Oh also we put an axe on the inside just so you know its a MANS ring just for MANLY MEN who like AXES and WOODSMOKE and LEATHER but not in the gay way

UUHhhh yeah so thats it. I hate these rings. There is no deeper meaning to this post. (except maybe we could talk about why men's products have to always be "rugged" and "manly" at the expense of actual aesthetics because they feel like its too feminine these days to even have a regular old solid gold band or -god forbid- something with a bit more visual interest that doesn't look like garbage) Is this a controversial take? If you own one of these I am sorry. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings but sometimes you must scream into the void, yk?

yeah it’s been a while since my last time logging on to here. but i dont have really an audience so at least i dont have to feel responsible for it ٩(｡˃ ᵕ ˂ )وｲｪｰｨ♪

i guess i’ll talk about why i use tumblr (no one wants to know but i’m not responsible for that cuz again, there’s no particular audience ^w^). i wont say i Love tumblr cuz i haven’t really used it enough to know enough about it. but it is quite special.

one of the things i like about tumblr is that there isnt a lot direct interaction going on. at least for me (and what i am going to say in this post is also just based on my experience of using this app). you reblog someone else’s posts, but you don’t necessarily need to know who they are. i don’t really see comments, not just in my posts but in other posts too. when i first started tumblr, i didn’t know about this. i thought it’s like other social media, where posts have a ton of comments. but i realized comment sections arent really the thing here.

instead, it’s more of a place for people to share their art, their interests and feelings and so on, without having to worry about attention or reach. it’s really a “blog” place instead of a place where reach or the amount of likes and followers are heavily considered. it’s actually better this way, we connect with people who really understand us (whether in the sense of understanding what you draw, or relating to your mental health struggles, etc), and we dont judge people based on how they advertise themselves. it’s more about the inside, but not the outside, if you know what that means.

i also dont see ppl arguing with each other and going on a war of right and wrong. maybe it’s just because i dont see the bad side of tumblr, but i still believe that it’s rather “peaceful” here. and not to mention i’ve found a lot of posts that describe feelings that i have too, despite not even knowing who are you all and your backgrounds and all that. on other sites, i have to look through different accounts to see posts like those, and a lot of accounts are private so there’s not much to know about people without hitting that follow button. but on here, just one hashtag, and i see loads of posts from different people of different backgrounds. (yes, im the emo one and i actively look for sad posts (not to say others are just emo- mental health is an important matter)).

plus i dont really Know anyone here, and i feel good being on my own here (but i dont mean that i hate everyone here). so it’s really like a secret place for me on here. like a hidden treehouse in the deep woods, but i still find different interesting creatures too! (hope you understand this analogy… im bad at words ; ;)

yeah imma go now and morph into an emo person now. enjoy the moon eclipse thing i guess :)
