Wip Wednesday - Head In The Clouds

Mirabel looks down at her work from the top of the roof, making sure all the streamers were put up according to place. Everything looks even, but just to check Mirabel moves closer to the edge and peers. Was that streamer a little crooked or-

“Ay!”

Mirabel yelps as something gives out from under her foot and she goes tumbling off the roof. She hurriedly flaps her wings but she can't get them to operate fast enough. Someone shouts in alarm as Mirabel slams into the second floor railing and tips off, smacking painfully onto the bottom floor in a heap of limbs and feathers. There are gasps and cries all around her, someone yells for help.

'What was that? What did I slip on?' Is the only thought going through Mirabel's head. She looks around in confusion, hindered by her now broken glasses.

"¡Qué pasó, qué pasó!" Mamá comes rushing in from the kitchen, Abuela hot on her heels.

"¿Mirabel, estás bien?" She asks, voice pinched with worry.

Based on the stinging in her arms, Mirabel can tell that she's bleeding, even if she can't really see it.

"You didn't hurt your wings did you?" Abuela's asks, sounding just as worried. "Ay, let's get you up Angelita."

Hi there! I saw your Isabela headcanon reply on @catastrouge's post ("Isabela's gift also has a downside...") and I tried to reply, but Tumblr seems to have eaten it? Anyways I just wanted to say that headcanon is SO COOL and even more horrifying when you consider that Isabela is likely regularly expected to grow large amounts of plants for events and celebrations. I also wanted to ask if you have any specific details about that headcanon concerning severity, extent, how many plants constitute "too many", does variety vs many of the same change anything, are certain flowers linked to certain locations or species of the internal flora, that sort of thing, if and only if you actually thought about it that much and want to answer of!!! If the answers are "I don't know" or "no comment" are acceptable answers! Also it's a really really cool concept that I think would be really cool as a fic, so I also came to seek permission to try my hand at building a story around the concept.

Anyways, I very much adore your headcanon, and also your pfp and header image are delightful! (Kate flopping on the ground against her luggage I find particularly amusing; the pose is dramatically bored and very in-character) I wish you a lovely week! Thank you for reading this!

Hi! Sorry for replying so late.

In my mind, it's less of a variety of plants (though some speed up the process) and more of the amount. If the number of flowers she grows per day was only enough to cover a few buildings, she would definitely have some trouble breathing but would survive in the meantime. Basically, after Antonio's ceremony, it would suck for her, and she would definitely start seeing blood and flower petals but she would live.

The only time it would get life-threatening for her was if she grew a shit ton of plants, enough to cover the whole Encanto twice. Rest assured, though, this would only happen if she had to single-handedly have to:

a. Fight off a large army, and when I say large, I mean HUMONGUS.

or b. Grow enough food to feed five Encantos.

Heaven forbid if she had to do both in the span of a few days *cough* angst idea *cough*.

Anyways, that's just my interpretation of a downside to her gift! I also like the idea that she's vulnerable to cold, dry places, but that's another headcanon altogether.

12. 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘  𝐁𝐄𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐃  𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑  𝐔𝐑𝐋: It’s from a Babylon 5 quote. I kinda used the quote as the header on my previous RP blog - it’s from Delenn, when she’s explaining to the Grey Council just what it is that makes her regard humans as so special, but I thought a select portion of it could also describe my muses very well too - and when I moved blogs I continued the emphasis on that quote on my header, muses pages, and promo video... so it just made sense, to me, to draw from it for my url too. The full sentence is “Out of their differences comes symmetry, their unique capacity to fight against impossible odds.”

13. 𝐅𝐔𝐍  𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐓: My interest in making my own animation came, originally, from making gif icons for a Disney-based RP site I was on a while ago. I didn’t have a handy screen-to-gif converter at the time, so making gifs entailed the time-consuming process of skipping through the clip I was using one frame at a time, screencapping each one individually, and pasting them into Photoshop to make the gif. It was a lot of work; but it also gave me a huge appreciation for all the little details and subtleties that went into every motion. It was after about two-and-a-half years of doing that that I kinda thought “I’d like to try that myself...”

That first attempt, heh, almost put me off the process for life! But somehow, despite not being at all satisfied with the end result, I had friends commenting on it to say it looked good, and I kinda... found myself drifting back to trying it again, now and then - and eventually turned out a two-minute-long short that I was very happy with at the time. Eventually, I actually went looking up advice and instruction online; but even still, a lot of what I learned of making animation, I just learned from studying movies and shows in that frame-by-frame way until I felt like I understood what was going on.

It was SOOOOO hard trying to pick between various Encanto and turning red background concept arts for my header. I love both so much and concept art is my favorite.
