9. course I know the way you like your coffee." With Sid please
9 â âOf course I know the way you like your coffee.â - Sidney Crosby
461 words.
Thanks for requesting Sid for this one! I hope you like it!
~
Waking up to the sounds and smells of your boyfriend cooking breakfast was something you could definitely get used to. You and Sidney were still relatively new to staying overnight at each otherâs homes, but now that you were six months into the relationship, youâd reached a level where you were comfortable enough to let him into your person space, and he the same in return.
Last night youâd stayed over at his place; there was just something about waking up in his mildly-lavender scented sheets that made you smile. And sure, seeing him lying next to you was always your favourite part about the mornings, but knowing that he was making the two of you breakfast instead made your heart race in happiness in its own way.
Never had a guy put in so much effort. Sure, youâd only had a few serious relationships, but no other guy youâd ever dated had taken the time to get to know you the way Sidney had. Six months into this relationship and you could honestly say you felt more treasured, more seen, than with anyone else. His on-ice laser focus was just as lethal off-ice, and you found yourself reaping the benefits of that more and more each day.
Sidney Crosby was the perfect boyfriend youâd always dreamed of, and you counted your lucky stars each and every day.
âMm, good morning.â
Sidney smiled at you as you walked into the kitchen, wearing just an oversized t-shirt of his and nothing else. It was intimate, and soft, and you knew exactly how dressing like this affected him.
âIâm making omelettes, hope thatâs okay,â he said warmly.
âThat sounds great,â you nodded, taking a seat at the kitchen island.
âPerfect, shouldnât be too much longer. Iâve just made you a cup of coffee too,â he added.
This man.
You took a sip of the mug he passed you, eyes closing in pleasure. It was exactly how you liked it, the perfect balance of smooth and sweet.
âYou always make it exactly right. Itâs crazy,â you mused, placing the mug down.
Sidney just smiled. âWell of course I know the way you like your coffee. How could I not?â
âNot everyone pays attention like you,â you pointed out, smiling.
He huffed out a laugh, shrugging his acknowledgement.
âMaybe not. But all the little details like that, all the little things that make you smile? Theyâre important to me, because theyâre important to you,â Sidney said softly, leaning down to rest his forearms on the counter.
You reached out your hands, taking his in yours, and just squeezed softly. One day maybe heâd realised how declarations like that swept the ground out from underneath you. One day.
âThank you, Sid,â you murmured.
He just smiled.

To Be Known - Ch.1.

viktorxfemale!reader explicit! Modern AU, set in London, current era but not very specific. Uncharted waters for me, because I have no idea how many chapters it will come out as.
Reader is: British, Young Vic (get it?) theatre company director, working class, in her 30s, a control freak, a semi-conscious sub. Viktor is: Czech (as always), working in biotech with Jayce, working class, in his 30s, a control freak, a conscious dom.
MASTERLIST next chapter ->
word count:Â 4,6K
warnings, or rather this work contains: d/s dynamics between main characters (but who the fuck knows what Mel and Jayce are doing), love (attraction?) at first sight, no strings attached to lovers/strangers to lovers (so like reverse emotional slow burn?), lots of porn, angst, happy resolution. I will be adding kink warnings as they appear in the future chapters.
authorâs note: Ok, so, um, hi! A Deer and a Man is ending, so something else has to begin. Itâs like⊠a very freeform thing Iâm doing here. Sort of about nothing, just relationships with d/s dynamics, because I want to play around with some kinks and stuff. Iâm trying to make it make sense here, but not everything might, since itâs just my subjective take on things. It will have some d/s etiquette but not always, because Iâm clumsy and my characters get infected with my clumsiness :v Nothingâs new really (hehe, get it?), some plot, some porn, some feelings. Itâs basically me going to IKEA asking you if you wanna come and grab some vegan meatballs and the meatballs are smut in this :v So yeh, hi, welcome to another blurb of a mutlichap work.
Special thanks to my friends @rennethen and @strongfartzemergency for pre-reading this and enabling my brainrot. Artist is @petitesieste, just ahh âĄ
Cross-posted on AO3
â
Your eyes glaze over the computer screen, trying to memorize a list of poor souls to probe the next day. An ouroboros of theatre life has reached another mark, one where you must make a million decisions in a short span of time: Which plays will grace the stage, whoâs performing in them, whoâs directing, and whoâs dressing all those people in their fancy costumes? And, most importantly, whoâs paying for all of it?
So far, a successful year has set your bar even higher, with the next season looming in the golden light of August evenings. You donât even have time to warm your bones in itâyou have to think ahead, transport your brain to the future, to a cold January, when the real test begins for you. In truth, you donât have time to do anything beneficial for your bones, and youâve just learned to accept that your joints crack like dry wood every time you move.
A head peaks through the crack in your door, and you donât have to look up to know who it is.
âCharlie,â you greet him, your nose still scrunched up by the screen. âI know, I know. Iâm going, I just need a second.â You begin to rise from your chair but remain hunched over, extending your arm blindly toward the computer. âDid you bring my shoes?â
âYes, and Iâm not kicking you out,â says Charlie, passing you a pair of ballet flats. âBut if you want a driver, well⊠heâs getting impatient.â
âThatâs okay, I can commute,â you smile at him, taking the shoes and glancing at your watch. âItâs only Camden⊠oh, shit, itâs very late. You should, in fact, kick me out.â After a few hurried jumps while putting the shoes on, you're back to frantically picking up unrelated objects and shoving them into your purse: tissues, lipstick, random notes to review in the morning, and Melâs giftâa seasonal Young Vic pass for her and her plus one.
âWhere are you guys meeting?â he asks, passing you the rest of the things you will obviously want or need. Itâs a seamless collaboration with Charlie. Since the very beginning, you two have been sharing a brain, and this is partly why nothing has collapsed yet. On the contraryâboth you, as a theatre company director, and Charlie, as an assistant director, have been doing an amazing job, mending together a forthcoming approach and love for theatre. And this is all your head is at, despite the one evening of reprieve where you can share beers with friends in a pub that Mel has chosen completely out of character for herself. Which is why, instead of answering, you ask, âDo you really think we can do Hamlet?â
âWhy wouldnât we be able to do Hamlet?â Charlie parrots, passing you a coat with a raised eyebrow.
âI donât know, is it not a bit⊠on the nose? Itâs my second year, and my brainâs steamed up so much that Iâm doing Hamlet?â
Charlie chuckles softly, as he steps behind you to dress you up. âYou are going to do a bitchinâ Hamlet. And now can you please go and have some fun for once?â
âThis is fun, Charlie. Hamlet is fun,â you say, holding his arms and giving him a playful shake. âFun!â
âCalm down, captain,â he grins, rolling his eyes. âWhere are you guys going?â
âUgh⊠Worldâs End?â
âWorldâs End?!â Charlie covers his mouth in feigned horror, his eyes wide. âThis is so unlike Miss Medarda!â he whispers, shooting you an incredulous look.
âI know, Mel wanted casual,â you shrug, rolling your eyes. Then, as you move past him, you swat him lightly on the shoulder, seeking another round of uninhibited cackles. âDonât be mean, Charlie!â
âSorry, sorry,â Charlie laughs, raising his hands in mock surrender. âAh, Worldâs fucking End, who wouldâve thought. Let me fetch you a driver, my lady.â
You shake your head and scan your office one last time, making sure you havenât left anything important behind. Figuratively, of course, since almost everything dear to your heart is actually being left behind. And even though itâs only for a couple of hours, not being in control is frightening.
On the other side of the coin are your friends, with Mel right up front. Sheâs been there since the very first second of your meetingâright after you yelled at a light technician, making him flinch and nearly fall off the ladder. You had immediately corrected yourself with, âIâm sorry, I shouldnât have shouted. But this lightwork is still shit. Please fix it. I ask you kindly.â
That was when Mel grinned, wrapped an arm around your shoulder, and whispered into your ear, âOkay. I want to be your friend.â
Since then, Mel has been one of the main patrons of your theatre company, and youâbeing a firm unbeliever in your own abilitiesâare convinced itâs largely her money and pep talks that have granted you the creative freedom that led to you becoming an artistic director. Your worlds collided fast and hard, and, being another person married to her work, she quickly became one of the closest people in your life.
Until Jayce.
Mel, being someone who treats every relationship as an investment, doesnât limit her influence to the arts. So when her family decided to fund research grants for scientists from the Francis Crick Institute, you knew something was coming as soon as she justified the decision with, âAnd they are both very handsome.â
You know the urge very wellâthe ever-nagging need to have everything under control, to oversee every grain of sand that rolls through the waist of the hourglass, every second planned, every schedule so tight there is barely time to breathe. Itâs one of the things that bonded the both of you.
So when Jayce came alongâwith his motivation stemming not from a sickening need for self-accomplishment or a desperate urge to prove something to the world, but from the purity of his own heart and a healthy curiosityâMel began to crack. And then the disease spread to you.
Now, you actually rest. You spend your free Sundays socializing. You talk about things other than work. Youâve even been on a few unsuccessful dates. And itâs all Jayceâs fault.
You loved him for it immediatelyâthe small crumbs of the outside world granted to you and Mel through his unabashed joy and excitement. Jayce made things fun, and turning your phone offâbriefly relinquishing controlâbecame a little less terrifying.
From there, your thoughts drift in different directions until your absent-minded stare at the moving lights outside the car window is interrupted. The driver, in a grumpy tone, informs you that youâve arrived at your destination. You crack the joints in your hands before thanking him and bidding him goodnight.
The Worldâs End is all red from the outside, its glow bleeding onto the wet pavement. Through the glass, you spot the back of Melâs heavily accessorized hairstyle, a head of intricate twists and gleaming accents. You glance at your reflection, andâwell. Youâve seen better days.
Your mini skirt has twisted around, placing the slit exactly where you donât want it, so you yank it back into place, cursing Charlie for not telling you. In the process, you notice a small eyelet in your tights, the hole widening with each step you take. No nail polish to stop it from spreading. You curse yourself for that one. Your shirt is crumpled at the stomachâa reminder of hours spent hunched over your desk. Your necklace has caught a bunch of stray hairs, which you pick out frantically as you stride toward the door. And the rest of your hair? An artistic mess, sculpted by an impatient hand thatâs raked through it a hundred times too many today.
Once inside, Melâs slender hand and a row of her impossibly white teeth beckon you forward as she stands up to give you a hug.
And the inside of The World's End is exactly what you would expect from a Camden pubâbig, loud, and brimming with mismatched charm. The walls are cluttered with a collection of art that looks like it was bought in a rush at a local flea market. There's a hum of conversation mixing with the thrum of the music playing in the background, and the space itself is large, almost cavernous. The low ceiling and uneven, wooden floorboards give it an unpolished look that feels welcoming to some, but it's not exactly the kind of place you'd expect to see Mel at.
Mel, in contrast, belongs in a sleek, minimalistic bar, somewhere where the drinks are as carefully curated as the furniture, where everything is perfectly composed. Here, sheâs lost in the midst of it all, a little too refined for the space, as if her sharp lines donât quite align with the pubâs rough edges. The things we do for friends.
âDarling, Iâm glad you made it,â she chirps, walking toward you and spreading her arms wide.
âNow I can say Iâd go to the end of the world for you,â you murmur into her shoulder, squeezing her tight. Then, pulling back, you present a small envelope. âHappy birthday, love. Hereâbest possible seats.â
Melâs brows lift as she takes the tickets, flipping them between her fingers. âYou shouldnât have,â she says, though the gleam in her eye betrays her excitement. âBut thank you. You wouldnât believe who Jayce has managed to drag along,â she murmurs into your ear.
âOh, it canât be,â you whisper back, scanning the table over her shoulder.
A few of her closest friends sit huddled together, deep in conversation and laughter. Then, Jayceâs broad frame, unmistakable even in the dim light. And next to himâ
A pair of loose shoulders, wrapped in a red shirt stretched between two sharp blades. The nape of his neck, covered in a mess of brown curls. He leans on one hand, nodding along to whatever Jayce is saying, his profile cutting sharp against the glow of the street lights.
Viktor. The last man standing, the one seemingly immune to Jayceâs influence when it comes to making people step out of their comfort zones. And yet, here he is. Of all occasions, itâs Melâs birthday that has somehow coaxed Viktor out of his self-imposed solitude. A horse you wouldnât have bet on.
You are led to the table, where all the seats seem to be takenâuntil Viktor removes his cane from the empty stool beside him and gestures for you to sit between him and Jayce. As you lower yourself onto the stool, you take his hand briefly and say, âThe smartest man in the room, finally in the room.â
âYou must be talking about Jayce,â he counters, a glint of amusement in his eye. He holds your palm for just a moment longer than necessary before letting go. âIâve heard much about you.â
âOnly good things, I hope,â you reply with a smileâuntil Melâs head suddenly pokes between the two of you.
âWhatâs your poison, honey?â she asks. Only now do you notice her flushed cheeks and the way sheâs completely disregarded the concept of personal space, her arm stretching beyond your shoulders to tug playfully at Jayceâs hair.
âA pint of bitter?â you say, startled.
She frowns slightly, but you quickly follow with, âCheers,â hoping to steer her attention elsewhere. Her eyes squint at you, but she relents, giving Jayceâs back a clingy hug before strolling off to the bar. Only now Viktorâs hand releases yours.
He studies you for a moment before turning to his glass, giving you the chance to take a closer lookâ
The first two buttons of his shirt are undone, revealing the hollow between his collarbones, skin up to his neck is covered in a satin sheen of sweat. Tendons shift beneath it, blue veins threading along his throat. His hair is faintly damp around the ears, curling and plastering itself to his temples. From the side, his jaw forms nearly a perfect square.
You donât dare to look higher.
Lower down, though, his sleeves are rolled up carelessly, exposing freckle-specked arms. You spot it by dropping your gaze naturally.
Mel was right. They are both very handsome.
As the birthday gal disappears toward the bar, you are left wedged between the two scientists, the noise of conversation assaulting your ears. Across the table, Amara leans in, her many rings clinking as she refills someoneâs glass from a sweating bottle of wine. Beside her, Saloâalways overdressed for the occasion, his blonde curls neatly combed backâgestures broadly mid-story, his voice animated. A few seats down, Mion, the youngest among them and always balancing the line between sharp and naive, listens intently while occasionally stealing olives from Melâs abandoned plate.
"So," Jayce starts, shifting his weight so he can face you properly. âWhatâs keeping you so busy these days?â
You exhale, stretching your arms along the back of your seat, making your spine pop. âWrapping up meetings with playwrights, directors, and actorsâmaking sure everything aligns. Managing funding and sponsorships, finalising script choices.â
Salo whistles. âSounds like a headache.â
âItâs a miracle sheâs here at all,â Jayce adds, nursing his beer. âI half-expected her to send a regretful telegram from the depths of her desk.â
That earns a laugh from Amara, who nudges your foot under the table. âAnd what are the plays, then? Whatâs in?â
You rest your chin in your palm and do a mock countdown with the fingers of the other. âFurther than the Furthest Thing, The Scottsboro Boys, A Streetcar Named Desireâpossibly Hamlet.â
Mel, just returning with your beer, lets out a delighted gasp as she sets it down. âHamlet? Oh, darling, tell me youâre doing it.â
âCalm yourself,â you warn, reaching for your drink. âI said possibly.â
She spreads her hands dramatically. âI can already see it nowâthe staging, the lightingââ
âDonât start designing the posters just yet,â you cut in, but sheâs grinning too widely to be discouraged. âI can still change my mind.â
âYou know thatâs a lot for one person,â Viktor remarks, leaning in from your right, his voice lower, meant just for the two of you. His pupils are darker, wider than the number of glasses of wine heâs had would suggest, assessing you from under hooded eyelids.
âIâve always run through my life,â you say simply, tipping your glass toward him. âI do have help, though.â Viktor clicks his tongue, his mouth curving into a half-smile.
Before you can figure out what it means, Mion suddenly snaps her fingers. âWaitâhow did you and Mel meet, anyway?â
Mel waves a hand dismissively. âOh, I saw her preparing Yerma, and it was love at first sight.â
âLove?â Salo lifts a brow.
âShe was standing on stage, sleeves rolled up, arguing over how the chairs should be arranged.â Mel sighs theatrically. âHer diligence. Her eye for detail. I knew I had to have her.â
Jayce snorts. âAnd by âhave her,â you mean âfund her.ââ
Mel grins. âExactly.â
The table dissolves into laughter, glasses clinking. Conversations crisscrossâSalo and Mion bickering over some technical aspect of stage production, and you donât have the heart to correct them. Jayce launching into an enthusiastic recounting of an experiment gone wrong. Someone beside you leans in to talk, and for a moment, you lose the thread of conversation.
The haze of smoke, the warmth of alcohol-softened breaths, the layered voicesâit all blurs. Next to you, Viktor is speaking, but his words are swallowed by the noise.
The room tilts slightly, or maybe itâs just the drink settling in. Sounds overlap and ring in your ears as exhaustion takes hold and you zone out. Somewhere nearby, a bottle of wine gets passed around, then discarded in the middle of the table, still within your reach. A voice cuts through the fog, softer, closer. Then sharper, clearer than before.
Foreshadowed by Viktorâs hand on your legâhis right palm rests on you, and the moment it does, you tilt toward him, only to find heâs done the same. His fingers press inward, just barely grazing the inside of your thigh. Itâs a gentle invasion, entirely unprovocative, something that simply happensânatural. His left arm hovers over your backrest as his mouth nears your ear, and you can feel the tickle of his hair on your cheek.
âPass me the wine.â A soft command, tilting toward a question at the end, firm and quiet all at once.
You reach for the bottle without looking, your eyes fixed on his throat as he breathes. The moment it comes close, his touch leaves your leg and finds your fingers instead. His skin brushes yours, spreading the sweat from the glass onto your own, and something coils low in your stomach.
âGoodâŠâ he murmurs, clipped, as if something else should follow. âThank you.â And then his warmth is gone, leaving you painfully sober, achingly empty.
Itâs one of the most agonising seconds of your lifeâexcept this time, thereâs something sickly sweet curling around the edges, a lingering undertone that was missing from all the other agonising moments youâve suffered through.
For the rest of the evening, your attention doesnât waver, save for the necessary moments to put Mel in the spotlight.
Viktor lingers close. Not close enough to raise any eyebrowsâeveryone else is too busy bickering and laughing at Jayceâs anecdotesâbut enough for you to notice and relish in it. His breath occasionally fans your face when he leans over you for the bottle, his knee bumps yours under the table. He sits tilted toward you, his arm hooked against your stool, and his eyes never leave you, one way or another. He bombards you with questions and answers yours without blinking.
"Where did you study?" you ask, lips glued to the rim of your glass, leaving an stamp of your lipstick there.
"Abroad," he says vaguely, tipping his head. "You?"
"England. Try again," you counter, not looking up, only baring your teeth to the remnants of a cocktail in your hand.
Viktor exhales a quiet chuckle, tilting his glass idly in his fingers before conceding, "Vigilant, of course. Very wellâbiochemistry at UTC Prague." He pauses, watching your reaction. "Then onward to Francis Crick through MSCA. Nowâtell me yours." The last part, a command again, gentle and firm and you find yourself reciting in no time.
"Theatre and Performance at Goldsmiths," you reply, your words a little looser, the alcohol working its way through your veins.
"Ah, how prestigious," he murmurs, voice laced with amusement.
"If you consider five years of bullying that, then yes," you slur, twirling your drink in your glass. His expression sharpens, brows lifting slightly in silent question. You sigh, meeting his gaze. "I got The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art scholarship. Before that, I led an utterly non-prestigious life in Staines."
"Hardworking girl," he purrs, and ohâhis hand returns to your thigh, this time less inconspicuous as he drags a long finger up and stops just beneath the hem of your skirt.
"Where do you live?" he asks, his voice dipping lower, quieter, like the answer might be something just for him.
"Hackney," you answer immediately, then, seeing his knowing smile, feel the need to correct yourself. "The bad Hackney. You?"
"Eh, Islington," Viktor says, a hint of sheepishness in his voice.
Your mock jaw drop is immediate. "Unbelievable," you drawl. "And you dare to make fun of my fancy living?"
Viktor smirks, his fingers brushing your thigh before retreating. "You are making it up. But we can share a cab home then."
Something jumps in your chest at the thought of being locked in a tiny space alone with this man. And the cab driver, but, nevertheless. "I suppose we can. When do you want to go?" you ask, as steadily as you can manage right now.
He exhales slowly, then leans in, his breath warm against your ear. "Let's go now."
You have to stop your eyes from rolling in your skull. In fact, with the mix of various alcohols cursing through your veins and the secretive glances heâs been giving you, youâd probably nod vigorously if he offered to fuck you on the bar.
You step away from the table, weaving through the crowded space as you pull out your phone. Your fingers tremble slightlyâwhether from the drinks or the anticipation, you can't tell. It doesnât matter. The cab company confirms your ride is on its way, barely three minutes out.
When you return, Viktor is still lounging against the table, his fingers tracing the rim of his now-empty glass. He doesnât look at you right away, but his body angles toward you the moment you step back into his space. You lean in just enough to let the scent of himâwine, sweet sweat and washing powderâsettle into your senses before speaking.
âWe have three minutes,â you say casually, as if not stopping yourself from clenching your thighs.
Viktor gives a small, knowing nod and starts shuffling around for his cane and coat. His movements are unhurried, but thereâs a quiet efficiency to them, a preparedness that has you smiling.
From across the table, Mel lets out a dramatic sigh. âYouâre leaving already? I knew I shouldnât have sat two workaholics together.â
Jayce snorts into his drink. âAt least they lasted this long. I was expecting Viktor to slip out halfway through.â
Viktor hums in vague amusement, fastening the buttons of his coat. âAnd miss all your storytelling? Impossible.â
Mel rolls her eyes but grins. âFine, fine. Go, be boring. Just donât forgetââ she waggles a finger at youââyou owe me a Hamlet.â
You laugh, shaking your head. âGoodnight, Mel.â
With that, you feel Viktorâs hand brush lightly against the small of your backâan absentminded gesture, almost cautious, but it sends a thrill down your spine.
Itâs raining again, and neither of you has an umbrella, so you huddle together under your purse until Viktor opens the door for you. You fall in with no grace whatsoever and slide your ass across the back seat to make space for him. He steps in slowly, throws his address to the driver, then slumps down beside you, looking at you expectantly.
For a moment, you freezeâuntil you realise everyone is waiting for your address. Mumbling out the street and number, you lean back, your shoulder blades pressing against his arm.
And oh. You know damn well you wonât be able to let this go beyond tonightâor that you shouldnât be fucking around where you figuratively eatâbut he smells good, and his eyes stay on you, dark and hungry. So you tip yourself into the crook of his shoulder, tilting your head up with an innocently pleading look.
Viktor chuckles, as if something has just been confirmed, and his slender hand finds its way between your thighs. His body shifts subtly, shielding you from the driver, who barely suppresses an eye roll in the rear-view mirror. His lips, burning with alcohol and want, close over yours. His tongue pushes inside, licking slow and deep along the row of your teeth. His fingers travel up your leg, stopping painfully close to where you ache for him most, and squeezeâjust enough to brace himself as he leans in further.
You fumble with the buttons of his coat, slipping your hands beneath to tug his shirt free from his trousers. Another warm chuckle rumbles against your lips.
âSo efficient,â he murmurs, breaking the kiss to mouth at your ear. His breath is hot when he whispers, âDo you want to fuck here, or will you be a good girl and wait until we get home?â
A strangled moan escapes you, and your own hand flies up to clamp over your mouth. Viktor grins against your skin.
âGood. Quiet,â he purrs, before dragging his tongue in a slick trail down your neck, stopping halfway to suck a bruise into your flesh.
Breath stumbles in your lungs when he stops, lips flushed, wet and red with your smeared lipstick, his teeth barely grazing your skin before he leans back to look at you. His fingers remain firm between your thighs, a teasing pressure that makes your legs tense and tremble beneath his touch.
Whatever has led you to this moment is not your usual behaviour, but somehow, you canât be bothered to announce it. Long agoâsomewhere after shitty date number five, or fifteenâyou swore off bad sex for the sake of no sex and peace of mind. You grew tired of partners who were more tease than do, and the ones who assumed youâd thrive on organising everything in bed, just as you do at work.
You crave someone to take that pressure off you. Someone who would simply allow you to be dumb, even just for a few moments. To fuck your brains out so that poor strongest muscle of yours can replenish and breathe before you have to step back into the saddle and lead the chaotic orchestra of theatre technicians, actors, directors, and founders toward whatever critics deem a successful season. To take all the decision-making away and praise you for it.
And you have no guarantee that Viktor will do exactly thatâother than the way his roaming hand squeezes your leg so firmly or the way his tongue, insistent and wanting, doesnât ask permission before invading your mouth. The way he has stared at you the entire night has left you hotter and more bothered than anyoneâs scrutiny ever has. And even if this is a mistake, itâs one you are willing to make. Your thighs shake at the thought, and Viktor gasps softly against your lips.
"You're trembling," he murmurs, voice low as the vowels roll thickly off his tongue. His free hand reaches up, pushing your hair aside. He trails his knuckles along your jaw, his thumb pressing lightly against your parted lips. "Cold, or something else?"
You give a breathy laugh, rolling your hips ever so slightly into his palm, chasing that friction. Viktor hums, pleased, before his fingers slip higherâjust barely ghosting over the hanging-there nylons shielding your underwear. Your breath catches.
The cab rattles over a pothole, jolting you both, but neither of you pulls away. If anything, it only makes Viktor bolder. He shifts to face you fully, pressing you back into the seat as he kisses you again, deeper this time, his tongue curling languidly around yours. You taste wine and your own spit on him, and it makes you dizzy.
His hand abandons your thigh only to grab your wrist, dragging it to the front of his trousers, where he's already half-hard beneath the layers of fabric. "I want you," he breathes against your mouth, nipping at your lower lip before letting his forehead drop to yours.
You palm him through the material, pressing just enough to make him suck in a sharp breath. The sound alone makes a fresh gush of lust bloom in your knickers.
Thenâa pointed cough.
You both jolt as if caught doing something far more illicit than you already are.
"Islington," the cab driver announces dryly, eyes fixed firmly on the road.
Viktor huffs out a laugh, dragging his fingers through his already-mussed hair. "Do you want to come in?" he says, as if you hadnât just been grinding against each other like reckless teenagers in the back of a cab.
You swallow, pulse still pounding in your ears. "Yes," you nod. "Yes."
âI suppose we will wrap up the ride here,â Viktor says reaching for his wallet and taking out one note too many to make up for whatever the poor man had to endure.
âYeah, mate, I figured. Have a great night.â

I was wondering if yail reader and Joe ever fought. Like do the long distance ever get to them? or maybe a photo from the wrong angle sparks some concerns for either of them? Maybe the media stirring things up making them question something (not questioning each other loyalty but u k sometimes things might get in their head and they need reassurance)đ©
PSA: you are in love V (coming soon) takes place in May so these blurbs are following that timeline! also i got so carried away this is way longer than needed
âââââââââ
ââ
ââââââââ
they don't necessarily fight, but they do have disagreements here and there just like any ordinary couple :)
usually over mundane things like...
who left the cap off the toothpaste (it was definitely joe)
whether or not he should be allowed to get the same meal three times in a row (we get it. you're a buff football player but chill on the chicken and rice)
him insisting he doesnât need sunscreen because he "doesnât burn" (he does, every time)
her spending hours in the studio when she promised sheâd be home by a certain time (she makes up for it by cuddling him to death and clearing out her entire day tomorrow to be with him)
him trying to get her to watch interstellar for the hundredth time when she just wants to watch reality TV
his tendency to throw everything in one bag when they pack for trips
her getting distracted mid-story and never finishing it (drives him crazy. but she get's lost in his starry eyes way too often to count)
him getting way too competitive over Mario Kart and refusing to let her win
him taking her skincare products even though he has his own
who takes up more of the bed (itâs joe. he denies it. she has photo evidence.)
the reason for them not fighting fighting is simple.
great communication.
aka, the foundation for every long-lasting, committed, healthy relationship.
he knew what she needed, and she knew what he needed. they always talked, never hiding anything from each other. no feelings were ignored, no conversations were ever left unfinished. if something was bothering them, they talked about it. if one of them felt off, the other noticed immediately. there was no sweeping things under the rug, no letting tension build up until it exploded.
they were honest, always. brutally, if needed. but never in a way that hurt--only in a way that healed.
because at the end of the day, they werenât just lovers. they were best friends, too. and best friends donât let anything stew. best friends work through things together.
and for them, working together was easy as breathing.
--
distance:
the distance can get to them sometimes, but not very often. more so in the beginning of their relationship compared to now since they're 9 months in.
home base is cincinnati for her, and has been for a while now since she moved in with him. and they say home is where the heart is, and god she loved him so much...so wherever he was, that was home.
he is home.
and for 90% of the year, that's in the queen city.
but sometimes she needs to travel to new york, LA, out of the country, and even other cities in the states for work, and joe can't come with her every time due to football or prior commitments. her career takes her quite literally anywhere but it had slowed down over the past 9-ish months given she had been away from the public eye and spending all her time in cincy. she still, however, took a few quiet trips to her previous homes during that initial period in their early days (especially because she didn't officially move in with him until december/january).
**they started dating in july. anniversary is july 31st. she moved in around dec-jan. 'i love you' was said between that time as well--written in YAIL chapter 1**
and when she took those trips, they couldn't help but think about each other every second they were apart. for example, those early september nights (just after their one month anniversary on august 31st).
the season had just started, she was in LA for a secret recording session for her new album, and god...the yearning was off the charts.
flashback
"baby," his voice is thick with sleep, scratchy and sluggish, and she swears she feels it in her bones.
"hi, joey," she whispers, curling deeper into the plush pillows on her bed. his hoodie--her favorite one--hangs loosely over her frame, smelling just like him. itâs not the same, though. nothing ever is when heâs not next to her.
joe sighs, shifting on his pillow, phone propped up in front of him. his eyes are barely open, but heâs still looking at her like sheâs the only thing in the world that matters. "this sucks," he mumbles.
her lips twitch, "what sucks?".
"all of it. you being there, me being here, this stupid ass time difference," he grumbles, frustration evident in his voice. "itâs only been three days, and i feel like iâm losing my mind without hearing your laughter echo off the walls. it's way too fucking quiet, i miss seeing you reading your books in that nook by the window, i can't stand eating dinner...alone, and i just miss holding you,".
she breathes out a soft laugh, but god, she feels it too. this gnawing ache in her chest, this empty feeling that lingers no matter how many facetime calls they have, no matter how many texts they send throughout the day. nothing compares to being wrapped up in him, to the feeling of his hands on her skin, his warmth, his scent, his presence.
"i know, joey," she murmurs, her voice softer now. "i miss you so much it hurts,".
joe groans, running a hand down his face. "i hate sleeping without you,".
aw.
"me too," she admits, adjusting the phone slightly so she can see him better. "your side of the bed here is too cold, and your hoodies only do so much. i swear, if i could teleport, iâd be in your arms right now,".
"wish you could, too," he sighs, shifting again. his voice dips a little lower, sleepier but just as sincere. "but youâll be home soon. and your box is ready for you, princess. reserved, tinted, no cameras, no seats around it--just you watching me do my thing,".
she smiles, blinking up at him. "i know. youâre the sweetest. my precious, thoughtful lover,".
his lips curve just slightly, but his eyes are still heavy, still glassy with exhaustion. "not as sweet as you," he rasps. "you gonna be there next week, right? you promise?".
"of course, joey," she assures him, her heart aching. "i wouldnât miss it for the world. you know i live for this shit," she giggled, referring to her deep-rooted love for football tracing back to her childhood.
he hums, satisfied. "good." a pause. "need you there, baby. need you home," he mumbles, feeling sleepier and sleepier by the second.
the words knock the breath out of her chest, her throat tightening.
"i need to be home too," she whispers, voice barely audible. "i need you. being here...it's a lot right now. especially going to extra lengths to not be seen. it's exhausting, but i think i'm okay,".
joe blinks at her, lips parting slightly, something soft and helpless flickering in his gaze. then he exhales, shifting so his head is tucked into his pillow, eyes drooping. "you're amazing, Y/N," he mumbles. "you are so strong, you know that? and i'm so fucking proud of you. i promise you that you'll be back with me soon, it'll be like you were never in LA in the first place,".
her heart swells, her fingers curling into his hoodie. "thanks, quarterback," she coos. "you mean the world to me...what you say means so much. you don't even know,".
"i do know," he says while flashing a lazy smike. "because you mean the world to me, too. more than the world. youâre my everything, baby,".
she pauses for a second, letting the meaning behind his words sink into her bones before saying something. but the thing is, she was staring at him for too long...staring at his beautiful eyes for a heartbeat longer than intended, so by the time she regained composure, he was already out like a light. breath slow and even, face relaxed. she watches him for a long moment, memorizing the way he looks, the way he breathes, the way he just exists.
she misses him so much itâs unbearable.
but in a few days, sheâll be home. in his arms. right where she belongs.
end of flashback
--
rumors:
she wasn't oblivious to the fact that she was dating joe burrow. and he wasn't oblivious to the fact that he was dating her. she knew what came along with dating a superstar football player like him--the drama, the rumors, the chaos. and he knew what came along with dating someone like her--the paparazzi, the headlines, the unwanted opinions.
both had big reputations, no doubt. and with those big reputations came watchful eyes. came relentless chatter. it sometimes prevented them from keeping those boundaries and walls up, making them fear that even leaving the door open a smidge would be enough for them to come in and infiltrate their safe space.
it was a struggle for them individually--maintaining that boundary and keeping things tight-lipped regarding their lives. and together? together it was even harder.
it was mostly for him, though. there was never anything on her since she had been away from the public eye for nearly a year. and joe was one of the most private people out there, yet somehow, there was always chatter. a wrong-angled photo, a hand too close to someone elseâs in a candid shot, a lingering glance captured mid-conversation. it didnât take much for the internet to spin a story.
and for him, that happened constantly. downside of being the heartthrob of the NFL, you could say.
and normally, it didnât get to him. normally, he laughed it off, rolled his eyes, mumbled something about how people would believe anything. but some days, when he was already exhausted, when he was halfway across the country from her, when he missed her so much it made his chest ache--those were the days when the noise crept in. he'd get worried she'd think something, feel something that would make her feel pain. that pain he'd been working so hard to alleviate. the pain instilled within her because of her past.
he wouldn't ever forgive himself if he made her doubt their relationship. ever doubt him.
she, however, was completely unfazed. she saw everything--every suggestive comment from strangers online, every playful, flirty exchange from celebrities who clearly found him attractive--but she never said a word about it. because she knew who he was. and he knew who he was.
he was hers. and he would always come home to her.
that was it. that was all there was to it.
but still, there were nights when he (surprisingly) needed to hear it, when heâd pull her into his arms the second he saw her, pressing his forehead against hers and murmuring, "you know itâs just you, right?".
and sheâd just smile, tucking a hand against his jaw, brushing her thumb over his cheek. "of course, baby,".
because there was nothing to question. no space for doubt.
just them.
and that was all because of communication, clarity, and the support they gave one another.

Him and I Timeline
Pairing: Mob Boss Nico Hischier x reader
A/n: Hereâs the official timeline of Mob Nico and readers relationship! I did my best to keep it simple and I linked some of the bigger blurbs Iâve written as you go through it. Iâve also included plans for future chapters with no big spoilers, and I will be updating with links to future blurbs and details!
2021
September
-Reader meets Nico at the Rock on a night out. Sheâs cheering up a friend that recently got out of a toxic relationship, deciding to visit the Rock for the first time because rumor has it âthe boys are the hottest in the town.â
-Her and Nico enter a friends with benefit type of relationship for the next few months.
2022
January
-The Devils New Yearâs party is actually a surprise birthday party for Nicoâs 23rd birthday. At the party he discovers that reader was the one who planned it and she was also the only one to bring him a gift. Nico makes their casual arrangement exclusive, both agreeing to not see other people. They however do not have the official boyfriend/girlfriend talk.
-Reader goes home with Nico that night and addresses the rumors sheâs been told about the Devils.
May
-Nico wants to keep moving forward with their relationship but is scared she wonât want to once she knows the details about his lifestyle. Instead of asking her to be his girlfriend, he tells her about how he started the Devils, what they do, how theyâre seen by others. He also tells her how dangerous it is.
June
-Reader graduates from college. A few days before the ceremony she tells her parents about Nico, wanting to invite him to her celebration dinner. They forbid it, tell her they know all about him and what he does. If sheâs going to continue being with him theyâll have to cut her off.
-Nico tells her he wants to take her out for a fancy dinner to celebrate. She admits that she wanted him to meet her family but her parents have given her an ultimatum. He asks her what she wants, trying his best to seem unaffected but itâs clear heâs upset to hear that her family already disapproves of him. She says she still wants him there, despite what they think.
-Knowing itâll be even more damaging for him to show up to dinner with her family, Nico and a few of the boys surprise her at her ceremony. Him being there makes the decision clear for reader. At dinner that night, she tells her parents she chooses Nico. Thatâs the last night she speaks to them.
-Nico, scared and blaming himself for taking her family away from her, breaks up with her four days after the ceremony.
August
-Reader is waiting out her lease with her college friends for the summer. Sheâs spent the past few months talking to Timo when she can, but she mostly distracts herself with partying and working odd jobs. Nicoâs decision to end things between them left her lost, questioning her own judgment and sheâs second guessing her career plans, her future, and herself.
-Nico has spent the months since their breakup trying to make himself better. He wants to feel worthy of reader giving up her family. He also needs time to figure out how to make the Devils safe for reader.
-On a weekend out with the boys, heâs driving Timo home when his friend gets a call from reader. Sheâs drunk and upset, begging Timo to please come get her from a house party in Jersey City. Nico immediately goes to get her. They get to the house and reader freaks when she sees Nico. Sheâs angry and doesnât want to see him. Nico begs her to hear him out, but sheâs too drunk and heartbroken to pay attention. Timo calms her down, asks what happened. Her friends had said awful things about the way Nico treated her and teased her for being naive enough to try and be with him. She doesnât want to go back to her place with them, so Nico takes her to Timoâs.
-Nico shows up at Timoâs the next day with a matcha for her and pleads for her to just take a walk with him. Unable to ever tell him no, she does. On this walk, Nico explains himself, explains how he needed to fix himself before he let things get too serious with her. He wasnât ready before but he is now. For the first time, Nico tells her he loves her and that he wants to take care of her, if sheâll let him.
-Reader says sheâs loved him for awhile not and sheâs just been waiting for him to accept the fact that heâs been in love with her the whole time too. They officially get together as boyfriend and girlfriend.
Blurb here
September
-Nico buys out the rest of readerâs lease and helps reader move out of the apartment she shared with her old friends. Sheâs working with a big catering company, assisting with finances and scheduling, but sheâs struggling with finding a career she actually wants. It goes unspoken but they both know sheâs still insecure from Nico sudden breakup with her. Sheâs also still mourning the loss of her family and now her friends.
October
-In attempts to cheer her up, Nico takes her to a concert in Manhattan. That night reader is taken by Philly.
-She officially moves in with Nico a week after Philly. That same week, Luke officially joins the Devils and moves into the loft with Jack and Dawson.
-Nico steps back from work to be with reader.
November
-Nico gifts reader her pendant, officially putting her under the protection of him and the Devs.
-He buys a mansion in Jersey, hires a team to gut the house. Together him and reader design their dream home. Itâs a good project and distraction for her, but he can tell everyday that sheâs fighting hard to try and be ok.
December
-Reader is at her lowest, refusing to eat and get out of bed. All she does is sleep and cry. She admits to Nico that she needs help, she thinks she sick.
-Nico is trying to take care of her. He goes with her to her appointments with a therapist, does his best to hold her up when it seems like talking is making it worst, and doing his best to keep the smile on her face when it looks like itâs working.
-They celebrate Christmas together just the two of them, reader still not wanting to see any of the boys.
2023
January
-Reader is falling back into a slump. Nico takes her to Pittsburgh where they spend new years and his birthday with Johnny and Sid. She looks happy when theyâre there, but itâs not enough.
-Mid-January Jesper gets a call from a friend back home, begging him to take in a teenage boy thatâs been kicked out by his family and in desperate need of some help. Nico accepts, and Jesper flies out to go get Alex Holtz.
-Her and Nico agree, and she distracts herself with getting ready for the teenage boy coming to Jersey. They plan to move him into the loft with the younger boys.
-Sheâs the one to greet him first at the airport and when her and Nico take him to see the loft, he wants to stay close to reader. She and Nico decide heâll live in the apartment with them.
February
-Alex has really brought reader out of her slump. Sheâs genuinely happy with him and together they talk about their families and she tells him about Philly.
-Nico, happy that sheâs doing better and wanting to keep her moving upwards, asks reader if sheâd like to learn the basic training the devs go through when they join. She accepts and has daily lessons with Nico.
March
-They move into the house, where reader is gifted Moose. Alex is surprised with his own room at the house instead of going to the loft.
-Reader is struggling through her lessons with Nico but is trying to fight through them.
May
-At a plateau in her training with Nico, reader goes to Timo and tells him that she thinks she wants to stop. She doesnât know if sheâs meant to be a devil.
-She admits that itâs hard to train with Nico. His presence keeps her from focusing and she ends up breaking down in hard sessions. Nico is also struggling in pushing her, immediately stopping whenever she looks upset or scared. Sheâs afraid all he can see is her when she was sick, that he might think sheâs weak.
-Timo offers to take over. She goes to Nico and requests he take over, saying itâll be easier to focus and learn from the person whoâs been her friend since day one. And Timo wonât have a hard time pushing her. Nico agrees, assigns Timo the job of guarding and training her. He returns to work with the Devs.
-Their first order of business is bringing Johnny to New Jersey.
June
-Johnny comes to the devils on June 1st.
-Two days later Nico gifts reader her ring, making her an official member of the devs rankings.

đđ LUKE AND Y/N

đđ HOW THEY GET TOGETHER
âȘ they met in late august of their sophomore year
âȘ itâs when sheâs on her way to class and she physically runs into him, stumbling backward before he catches her
âȘ they briefly exchange some words and the only thing she knows leaving that conversation is that his name is luke and that heâs in a frat
âȘ she spends the next month dragging her friends to different frat parties in hopes sheâll see himÂ
âȘ they see him at every party they go to and at every party the two always have some sort of interaction with each other
âȘ itâs early october when the two finally have a ârealâ date
âȘ the two end up going to get ice cream in his truck and she admits that she thinks about him alot
âȘ full blurb kind of thing can be found here !
âȘ their friends with benefits situation starts at the end of winter break/the start of their second semester of sophomore year
âȘ at first the two of them take it slow and are just trying to get into it without causing too much tension between them
âȘ but by the end of january and beginning of february, it falls into a steady rhythmÂ
đđ THEIR RELATIONSHIP
âȘ the two could not be more protective of one another
âȘ two songs i relate with them are into you by ariana grande and uptown girl by billy joel
âȘ lukeâs nicknames for y/n: pretty girl, baby, sweetheart, gorgeous
âȘ y/nâs nicknames for luke: lu, lukey, pretty boy, baby, handsome
âȘ lukeâs love language is physical touch and words of affirmation
âȘ everyone thinks their a couple though most of their friends do know that they are just âfriends-with-benefitsâ
âȘ theyâre always hanging out at one or the otherâs rooms
âȘ luke picks out her outfits whenever he stays over at hers
âȘ they love going on late night drives together in his truck
âȘ luke loves when y/n gets drunk because she gets so clingy and needy which is one of his favorite things in the world
âȘ between the two of them, i could not tell you who is the more clingier one
âȘ luke will always have his arm wrapped around her at parties unless she wanders off
âȘ and heâs always making her sit in his lap when she does her homework
âȘ another one of his favorite things is when she wears one of his button-downs especially if itâs unbuttoned
âȘ but heâll put her in them after they have sex so thereâs been plenty of times where he wakes up to her making breakfast for them in his shirt and a pair of socks
âȘ y/n attends all of the frat parties that she is able to, especially when she knows itâll be the first time seeing him in a while
âȘ she takes every opportunity just to ogle him, whether theyâre sitting in his truck or heâs walking her to her class
âȘ they are best friends, so theyâre also just pure chaos together
âȘ they go out to target and just goof around all the time
âȘ they do a lot of tiktok trends and challenges together (buying each other things, âjacked-and-kindâ, etc.)
âȘ luke definitely will get her a shirt that says âlukeâs girlâ on the front or âproperty of luke hughesâ on the back, either way itâs a white shirt and has pink lettering
âȘ she plays with his bracelets when sheâs anxious or just needs something to do with her hands
âȘ if luke doesnât have his hand on her thigh then something is seriously wrong
âȘ they rarely fight but when/if they do itâs usually very messy and since the two can hold grudges forever, they could go weeks without speaking to the other
âȘ very competitive
âȘ luke will occasionally âtryâ to help her with her homework but it always ends with them making out

Ben's Big BL Blurb 4: I Hope I See Jay Sorathon Again
New year, new blurb. Time to reflect on a few shows finishing, talk about some new shows, and see where we're at in January.
Haunted Hearts Sucked
Final Verdict: 5.5, Not Recommended. Y'all don't need to watch this weird mess of a show. Despite joking about "devirginizing" its lead multiple times, it was so chaste in the end. It also did some weird world shenanigans I was not feeling. The leads are supposed to be in another Oxin Films project soon, so we'll see if they're better there.
Caged Again Flopped
Final Verdict: 6, Recommended Only For Jay Sorathon. This one really hurts me, because I genuinely loved the first half of this show. Jay Sorathon as Junior was one of the most refreshing experiences I've had in a while. This young actor is charming in a way that felt different, and I found myself enjoying every scene he was in because he could deliver what he was asked to do. However, the show generally failed to do much with most of its themes, and I think it was a real waste of Nokia and Jaonine as a pair. There were interesting themes about how Junior and Sun wanted different things out of their relationship that didn't get resolved, so all of their skinship felt disconnected from the big themes they were teasing out.
I am sad that I cannot really recommend this as a complete viewing experience, but I do not want that to detract from how much I enjoyed the entire cast's chemistry. I just cannot pretend that this show didn't peak at the gif used above before floundering completely.
An Apology to City of Stars
Final Verdict: 8, Recommended. I skipped this show originally because I was overloaded and unmoved by the first episode. However, this show was actually one of the most consistent narratives we've had about the consequences of fan culture, sponsorship, and commercialization of queer actors we've had this year. Unlike Only Boo!, this show inflicted real consequences on Feuang for coming out to the point that he essentially had to change careers (which happens to real actors all the time, going back as far or further than William Haines).
The leads also kept having sex after getting together! A novel experience! I loved that Krom had almost no swag, and Feuang fell for him entire on family photos and his mom gushing over him. He really won as a tech worker. Watch this if you're interested in seeing a show with clear ideas about the entertainment industry and are willing to deal with some weak acting.
Our Youth Left Me A Bit Wanting
Final Verdict 8: Recommended With Reservations. I wrote my write up for this already, and will say here that I like parts of this show a lot even though I wasn't fully satisfied by the viewing experience.
See Your Love Got All The Important Things Right
Final Verdict: 8, Recommended for the Mains. I will admit that I didn't much care for the side couple, but I loved Shaopeng and Sean's relationship. I loved that this wasn't a story about fixing someone's hearing so they could be in a romance. I also love that one of our final scenes in Shaopeng's dad telling Sean's dad to go fuck himself. The leads reminded me of Jimmy and Tommy from Why R U and I loved their work together.
Love in the Air Koi Was a Genuine Delight
Final Verdict: 9, Highly Recommended. I liked it a lot. I think new and old fans will be able to enjoy it. I have high hopes about cross-cultural adaptations as a result.
Love is Like a Poison Was Spectacular
Final Verdict: 9.5, Highly Recommended. I had so much fun with this show. I love that this show blended multiple genres together, and I loved that Shiba was always in a legal drama. By blending this together this way, the show supports the idea that the different ways we love and see the world are not incompatible in relationships. Shiba and Haruto are one of the best couples we had this past year, because they each made the other better, and they each add something to their relationship. Also, this show was actively horny the entire time. Run, do not walk, to support this show (if you can) on Netflix.
Fragrance You Inherit Was The One of the Kindest Shows I've Ever Seen
Final Verdict: 9.5, Highly Recommended. Thanks to the constant efforts of @isaksbestpillow we were able to enjoy this incredible show. @twig-tea already wrote a great review. I will be thinking about Sakura and Touki for years. I will just add that I really loved that Hoshii was just a goofy dude that loved the women in his home. He respected both of them, and was just so happy to be included in their shenanigans. I cannot overstate how much the episode where we met him properly kicked this show into overdrive for me. I loved that he was a good dad and husband and that it was clear his wife and daughter felt safe and happy around him. I loved that this show was about kind people doing their best.
Okay, on to the currently airing stuff.
Your Sky is Faltering, but I Still Like It (8/12)
Look, I am just not keen on the Oh redemption arc. I'm also feeling the show dragging its feet at this point. I also am not sure what the relationship between the various sides are contributing to this story. That being said, I continue to enjoy the chemistry between the leads, and I am looking forward to seeing their dating era. This show has been riding the line on the bubble, and I am curious to see where it lands.
Ossan's Love Thailand (1/12)
I've grown to love Ossan's Love over the last year, and so I was cautiously optimistic about this adaptation. I don't think the humor is as tight or zippy as I would expect, and I think the branded pair component is hurting some of the initial setup. I also feel like the shower scene shifted in a way that doesn't entirely work. In addition, making Kongdetch a widower slows down his dramatic development. I'll check in again next month.
Call Me By No Name Started Weird (1/8)
gif by @my-rose-tinted-glasses
This show got off to a moody and somewhat intriguing start. I am looking forward to our little gamer's interactions with this possibly-fey creature for the coming weeks. It's difficult when the show starts coy.
When It Rains It Pours Has an Uphill Battle (1/7)
I am personally interested in the journey this show wants to go on as what will more than likely be a double cheating narrative. I like that the show started with boy guys in relationships they feel a bit frustrated with due to a lack of intimacy that is being actively ignored by their respective partners. I'm also intrigued because both partners seem like they're overall committed to our leads. This one started off in a mild note, so I'm curious how it holds audience attention. Still, both leads had sad masturbation scenes, one explicitly remembering when his partner used to fuck him, so it has my attention.
That's all for now! I'll check back in with one of these in a few weeks and we'll see where we're at.

The GOAD Epic Goblins present - The Serpent and The Owl Volume 0 - The World I Created - Chapter 1
Thank you @quona for this gorgeous artwork!!
Chapter written by @kotias
As per the teaser video shared on Saturday on our subreddit...
We made it.
February 19th, 2024: launch date of the epic fic project.
January 19th, 2025: the publishing of the epic fic, named The Serpent and the Owl, starts.
11 months in the making. Wow.
Total amount of people who wrote or made art for this epic fic:Â
69 writers and artists.Â
Nice.
Total amount of people involved in the project:Â
75 people, including:
35 writers
31 artists
4 creators who took on both writing and art
5 betas (+3 writers and 1 artist who took on the task)
1 podficcer
This is the first part of a series in 7 parts.
Expect a new chapter of this epic fic every Wednesday and Sunday for the next 6 months.
And I promise: there is a happy ending to this story. Just not quite yet.
When I launched this crazy idea, based on Soggyâs request on the GOAD Writers Guild subreddit, I would never have thought it would turn into this.
Hell, part of me didnât believe the project would succeed.Â
Did I wish very hard it would? Yes, of course.
Was I fully convinced it would? No. With such an endeavour, with so many people involved, and a full narration to develop with dozens of participants, I had no way of being certain of it.
And yet, look at this: itâs ready, after 11 months, to be shown to this subreddit and to the Good Omens fandom.
I cannot begin to find the right words to express how I'm feeling as well. This feels a little surreal; we managed to make something cohesive, might I even say a good story, with so many people involved.
Thank you all Epic Goblins so much for being such amazing people to work with â€ïž
I have to say... seeing the first bits of conversations that we had on this project, and remembering how everyone was confused and scared at first, throwing ideas left and right and trying to even start to having something coherent and cohesive...
We're finally there, and it's beautiful and glorious and it's thanks to everyone and.... â€ïž
Enormous thank you to @theravenmuse for your undying support during this entire endeavour. It took months, but hell, thank you for holding the fort when I wasn't able to, and for this gorgeous spreadsheet that helped us keep track of EVERYTHING.
My most sincere thanks to my dear lieutenants and Art General: @quona @eybefioro @whatareyou42 @gaiaseyes451 @theonewiththeshippinggoogles
You have all done amazingly to keep the teams together, to wrangle them, whether I was here or not, and working so hard to find a cohesion within each team and a narrative direction for each story that was created within the greater narration.
And of course, thank you to everybody involved.
Thank you for trusting me and for following me here. And ENORMOUS thank you to our betas, who have been phenomenal: ModernDayKlutz, DBacklot, WiblyWoblyTimeyWimey, GlitteringRock, ireallyneedmoretea, itsscottiesstark, TheGaroMask, Abaddon Sahar, cordsycords, without whom this fic would not have gotten to the quality it has reached today.
I love you all, thank you all so much for embarking in this crazy adventure with me. Weâre done. And we did remarkably well. I am very honoured of having been given your trust, all of you.
I wonât lie, I've been crying from the emotion quite a bit in the last couple of months, and got very teary eyed writing this blurb. :')
Please enjoy the very first chapter to this epic fic project, starting with Volume 0: The World I Created, Ch.1: Bringing upon the Dawn
Word count: 3418 words

Summary:
~This story starts, as it will end, in the stars.~
Crawly is a singularity, born in the Empty and thriving in it, until the day Life settles into the universe. As that happens, she descends onto the planets in her vicinity.
Several centuries, maybe even millennia, pass; Crawly got integrated enough in the society of a planet that she (I'll go with she/her pronouns) is the long-standing Queen and main deity of that planet.
Aziraphale comes as a scientist from another planet that hers made an agreement with; thus begins their relationship. Crawly slowly comes to terms with her feelings with Aziraphale as their story evolves and their travels through the galaxy continue.
Excerpt:
Of all the places that Jala could have expected to find the Mother of All Suns, the cemetery of a remote village wasnât her immediate thought; and yet, when she saw Her, there was no possible doubt.
A statue was standing on a pedestal, holding a sword in front of her legs. She had her eyes closed peacefully, her eternal beauty remained in her stone flesh, a lone ruby shining on her forehead like a diadem. Her hair fell like a veil from her head over her shoulders, arms and waist, circling her entirely.
Jala was certain of one thing; anybody who didnât need her presence or believe in her would have passed this statue by without much thought, or might have just recognised the shape of the statue as an ancient former Queen of the planet. Jala however remained in awe before it for a very long time, pulled in by its magnitude.
She eventually closed the distance between them, climbing on the pedestal and rising to meet her gaze, raising a hand to stroke the stone cheek. âHow long we have looked for you, my Queen,â she whispered, a tear breaking from her eye and trickling down her face. âHow desperately we craved your presence.â
The statue remained lifeless between her fingers, but Jala smiled. The end was nigh.
Keep reading here!

6 â âYou kissed me.â âYou kissed me back.â - Seth Jarvis
836 words.
Ahhh yes thank you Emmie, he fit with this one perfectly!
~
The morning after the night before. You were slightly ashamed at how groggy hangovers were becoming part of your routine, but considering that youâd only just graduated from college, you figured you still had a few years leeway. Having a little money from your first big girl job had its perks, okay? And if that meant partying after work on occasion and going to bars every week, then you could deal with that.
At least coffee existed to help, anyway.
Waking up today had been fairly manageable â you were a bit fuzzy on memories, but rolling out of bed to shower didnât make you hurl and neither did your attempts to eat some dry toast while your coffee brewed. It was one of the first things youâd bought with your first paycheck â a decent coffee machine â and right now it was your saviour. Even just the smell alone made you feel a little more alive, and by the time youâd eaten two slices of toast and gotten through half a mug of latte, you could feel the memories of your previous night slipping back into focus.
Last night hadnât been a trip to a bar, but a gathering â friends of friends. Nothing massive but still a sizeable crowd that let you feel anonymous enough to dance to your hearts content while still catching up with the social crowd youâd found yourself falling into in Raleigh.
Shots with Svechy. Dancing with the Martinooks and the Slavins. Discussing the best Finnish saunas with Jesperi and Sebastian. A kiss with Seth.
You choked on the last dregs of your coffee with that last memory, hurrying to wipe up the sprayed liquid as you coughed to clear your throat. A kiss. A kiss with Seth. With Seth?
Oh fuck.
Of all the nights for alcohol to give you the courage to act on your crush, it had to be when most of his teammates were around. You could only hope that none of them saw you embarrassing yourself, otherwise youâd never be able to show your face again. Although, if your hazy memory served you correctly, Seth had eagerly kissed you back.
But what if he was too drunk to remember it? What if he did remember, but wanted to pretend it didnât happen?
The sound of your apartment buzzer broke you out of your spiralling thoughts, and it was all you could do to stumble over to the front door.
âHello?â
âHey, itâs Seth. I have coffee?â
Oh fuck.
You couldnât remember making any plans with him but you had a sinking feeling why heâd turned up at your door. There was no point delaying the inevitable, was there? You buzzed him up without a response, quickly running to the bathroom to freshen up and put on a bra, and before you knew it, Seth was walking through your front door.
âOne coffee,â Seth announced, offering you a takeaway cup as he kicked off his shoes.
You just smiled, taking a sip and savouring the caffeine and oat milk.
âThank you,â you mused, leading him into the kitchen.
Seth just grinned, sitting down on a kitchen stool. âI know what youâre like without caffeine,â he teased.
You just stuck your tongue out, making him laugh. As he picked at the label of his own coffee, you stayed silent, sipping on your drink, not willing to make the first move in conversation. If heâd come over, then he mustâve had a reason to.
âSo, uh, last nightâŠâ
Seth trailed off, looking uncharacteristically awkward. Here goes nothing.
âYou kissed me,â he murmured.
âYou kissed me back.â
Seth huffed out a laugh as your cheeks heated, nodding his agreement.
âI did,â he acknowledged.
His eyes caught yours, sparkling with mirth as always, although there was a seriousness you hadnât seen directed your way before.
âWas it a drunken thing?â
âIâm pretty sure we were both drunk?â
Seth laughed again, shaking his head. âI meant more like, was it a spur of the moment drunken mistake kind of thing?â
Ah. Very different. There were two ways this could go. You could either confirm his statement and the two of you would never talk about it again. Or, you could tell him the truth. What choice did you have?
âNo, it wasnât a mistake for me,â you murmured.
His answering grin settled the bubbling anxiety threatening to fizz through your blood.
âWell, thatâs good,â you managed to say.
âIt is?â he needled, grin teasing.
There was the Seth youâd grown to love.
âMaybe you should tell me what youâre going to do about it, hm?â you said, raising an eyebrow.
Two could play at that game. Sethâs pupils blew out, making your breath hitch in your throat as a clear wave of confidence washed over his face. âI was thinking I could take you out. Coffee, drinks, dinner, whatever you want. Just you and me. What do you think?â
You could admire a man who was direct.
âI think it sounds like a date.â

Easy Company HC's: Letters Home
A/n: I'm really rolling with these BofB headcanons! hope you enjoy :)
Characters included: Dick Winters, Lewis Nixon, Ronald Speirs, Carwood Lipton, Buck Compton, David Webster, Joe Liebgott
Dick Winters
Writes frequent, short letters
Meticulously dates his letters and includes a blurb about the weather. January 12th, 1945. Itâs snowing outside, dark and cold.Â
Starts each letter with My dear y/nÂ
Always asks how you are, even though heâs the one fighting a damn war
Follows up on every little question or story you include in your letters. How was the bake sale? Did you ever hear how Louise Grahamâs brother is doing after taking that shrapnel to the shoulder? Hope you were able to get someone out to look at the washing machine.
Ends his letters with classic but sentimental sign-offs, like Affectionately yours and All my love
Makes sure not to include anything in his letters that would worry you. Doesnât necessarily lie or fake being happy, but just gently side steps that.Â
Although every once in a while you get a longer letter where Dickâs handwriting is a little messier. You know itâs from writing fast, you can almost feel the pressure behind the penmarks. He opens up more in those letters, talks about losing too many good men and sometimes will say things that just absolutely break your heart, like sometimes I wonder how all of this is really going to end for the men who are over here fighting.Â
Even in these letters, Dick never says âIâ or âMeâ, always writes about the men and the boys. You know - and so does he - that heâs including himself in those boys.
His next letter he always makes sure to reassure you. And itâs genuine, you can tell. Heâll say something like I have to put some of these heavier thoughts somewhere, and thereâs nowhere I trust more than with you.Â
When he comes home, you find a stack of letters you wrote to him tied up in a neat bundle and stashed in an inside pocket of his Ike jacket that he sewed in especially for that purpose. You could tell by the flimsy, near-ripped creases and dirty paper that heâd read each one about a hundred times over. Buried in the middle of the stack was the picture youâd given him before heâd left for training. On the back, heâd written simply your name, the date the photo was taken, and a short instruction: in event of my death, please send all personal effects to with your home address. It made you sob but you never told him you found it.

Lewis Nixon
Rarely writes. Actually drives you crazy with worry most of the time.
When he finally does, you can tell that heâs initially annoyed at having to put his thoughts down on paper. Letters start off with short, sarcastic sentences like nothing new here. Still fighting the war, in case you hadnât heard. Enjoying German hospitality.Â
But as the letters go on he relaxes into it and stops being so grouchy.Â
Because heâs always grumpy at having to write (you should probably thank Dick for cajoling Lew into actually sitting down to write to you), he usually doesnât write any sort of introduction or sweet address, just dives right into it.
His letters usually donât say much, he just kind of rambles about how much he hates being away from you and how he canât wait for the whole damn thing to be over.Â
Sometimes heâll write something so incredibly romantic it takes your breath away, like Iâd fight a whole division of Panzers myself if I could just get one more sniff of your perfume.Â
Those are the letters you save and reread to yourself over and over again when youâre waiting weeks for the next one.
Always signs off with something kind of sassy but also sweet?, like You know I love you or Keep our bed warm for me.Â
Sometimes you feel like you can smell whiskey on the paper, which both worries you but also reminds you of Lew
When he finally gets home and you ask him about what he did with your letters, he kind of looks at you like youâve gone crazy and says I read them of course, what else was I supposed to do with them?Â
This hurts your feelings at first which of course he doesnât understand, but after a few weeks you start to realize that he actually did read them and not only that he memorized their contents. Like he refers to your mother as âthe Wicked Witch of Wichitaâ (something you called here after you wrote him a long rambling letter about how angry she made you at your sisterâs bridal shower) and buys you a bouquet of daffodils because you wrote him a letter with a daffodil doodle in the margins of the page talking about the spring gardens.Â
You realize that Lew shows his love in the little details, and it makes you appreciate him all the more.

Ronald Speirs
Ronâs letters read like military bulletins.Â
Doing well despite the cold. 1st sgt sick with pneumonia. Think of you often.
Writes predictably once per week. Never misses a letter. Ever.Â
You always write him long, lengthy, romantic letters. Sometimes even a little raunchy, if youâve had some wine. After one particularly *ahem* suggestive letter, you feel ridiculous and say so the next time you write.
In typical Ron fashion, you get a short, to-the-point reply, but it still puts a smile on your face and a blush on your cheeks: Loved your letter. Keep writing.Â
Towards the end of the war, Ron starts a countdown to when he expects to be coming home. Two months now, maybe less. Home for the Fourth of July.Â
Also signs off with R.S. Which makes you laugh, as if you could forget who was writing to you.
Whenever your girlfriends find a letter from Ron (you keep them all in a shoebox in your closet), they tease you and ask how you can possibly be in love with someone so stiff and formal. To which you can only chuckle to yourself, because you know itâs just that they donât understand that Ron doesnât tell you he loves you, he shows you. Writing a letter every single week. Updating you on everything going on, even short updates, because he wants you to know how heâs doing. Thatâs Ronald Speirsâ love language.
Maybe three weeks before Ron comes home, you start getting boxes of (stolen?) German silver at your door. At first it freaks you out and makes you feel slimy for having lavish riches from an enemy country, so you donât unpack the boxes and you just stack them up in the back bedroom. When Ron gets home and sees the boxes unopened and shut away, he immediately asks you whatâs wrong. You stammer out an explanation and without blinking an eye, Ron loads them into his truck and takes them to the dump.Â
(Later you convince him that a better use of those would be to donate them to the local orphanage, so off he goes in his truck to get the boxes back out of the dump and bring them to shelter.)
One night when youâre lying awake, head on Ronâs chest, talking idly about things that donât matter, he interrupts you to ask Can you guess which letter I kept?Â
You instantly blush, thinking of that risque letter you wrote him when you were halfway through your second bottle of white wine. He shakes his head and pulls a letter out of his nightstand and hands it to you. You donât recognize it immediately, although you do see that itâs too short to be one of the naughtier correspondences.Â
Itâs too dark to read, so you ask him which letter. He says itâs the one you wrote to me for my birthday.Â
You donât remember that one and you tell him as much, so you ask him why he kept that one instead of some of the others. He looks down at you with a serious look in his eyes, a little surprised that you canât figure it out. Then he tells you: itâs the first time you wrote that you loved me.Â
The next day, you sneak a peek at the letter and realize heâs right. You signed it, I love you Ron.Â
From then on, you make sure to tell him that every night before he falls asleep.
Carwood Lipton
Formal, sweet letters. This man is a king of romancing by words.
Writes as often as he can, but you know that Lip needs peace and quiet for an entire evening to get one of those letters done (he probably definitely writes a draft or two before he gets it right). And letâs face it, Easy Company doesnât have the luxury of many quiet evenings.Â
Always, always, always starts his letters off with Dear (future) Mrs. Lipton, which you honestly think is hopelessly corny but itâs way too adorable to tell him so. And besides, you secretly love it.
He always reminisces about home in his letters. Tells you how much he misses the smell of your baking, the squeak of the front porch swing that you two would sit on and watch the sunset.Â
He worries a lot about you and his family. He always asks you to look in on his mother if itâs not too much trouble.Â
Lip doesnât talk much about the war, in fact he hardly acknowledges it at all. And he never uses the term âwarâ or âbattleâ. Instead, he says things like The boys over here are still committed to doing the job or Easy presses on. Â
Lipâs letters get a little shorter and less soft after Bastogne. He starts including the names of the casualties in his company in the P.S. Even though you donât know these men except by name - and some of them, not even that - you feel honored that he trusts you with their memories.Â
Lip has saved your letters and all the pictures you sent to him - he loves pictures, and asks for an updated one of you almost every month - tucked in his foot locker and safely between the pages of his Bible so they donât get creased or dirty.Â
You also find that heâs kept stacks of letters from some of his men that died in the field. When you ask him what he plans to do with the letters, he gets a heartbreaking, far-off look in his eyes and says I reckon Iâll try to get them back to their families.Â
You take on the burden of doing that, and you write to some of the families introducing yourself and introducing Lip and offering to forward them the letters.
All the replies you get back mention that their soldier talked about how good a leader and friend Lip was. Their replies bring tears to your eyes. For some reason, you donât show the letters to Lip, although you do tell him about them. He never asks to read the letters, he just kisses you on your forehead and tells you that heâs never loved you more.Â
Even after heâs home, heâll still write you a letter from time to time, usually at Christmastime or for your birthday in the summer. His letters are always talking about his favorite memories with you, and thereâs always a paragraph at the end where he talks about how in love with you he is. Itâs borderline poetry and it makes you cry every single time.
GIF by balladofthe101st
Buck Compton
Basically just writes a list of questions for you to answer in every letter.
Wants to know everything about whatâs going on at home. Especially sports teams.
Doesnât write frequently, so sometimes itâs hard to feel like thereâs a conversation happening.Â
But he always includes sweet little notes about how much heâs thinking of you and how heâs counting down the days until he can hold you again, so youâre not complaining.Â
Not the most poetic writer. Always says what he thinks and feels though. Completely honest and open.Â
Does not tell you anything about the war. Basically ignores the entire thing.Â
Sometimes you think about asking him about that, but you figure that heâs not talking about it for a reason, so you follow suit.
Calls you baby in his letters.Â
Doesnât actually say âI love youâ in his letters, although says everything else. Miss you baby. Dream about you all the time. When I get home, Iâm putting a ring on your finger.Â
One time he writes that he woke up last night out of a dream and swore I could taste you and it makes your toes curl.
You save that letter, tuck it in your underwear drawer.Â
Signs his letters very simply: Buck. Sometimes heâll put something in like until next time or Iâll write soon. But usually nothing super romantic or sentimental.
Doesnât save your letters, but that really doesnât bother you too much because all you wrote in them was basically just rambling details that Buck requested about your boring day-to-day.Â
Buckâs always better in person than in writing - heâs a quality time and physical touch kind of guy - but you know that your letters were his only lifeline to normal during the war, and youâre just happy to have him back at all.Â
He does surprise you one night when itâs really quiet in the house and youâre sitting on the couch together, each reading a book. He suddenly turns to you and says You know baby girl, your letters saved my sanity over there. Itâs the most heâs really ever said about the war, but itâs enough, and you kiss him so he knows that you get it. Â

David Webster
Unsurprisingly, Web is probably the best letter writer in all of Easy Company.Â
He helps a lot of the other guys write letters home, especially if theyâre trying to say something important. Web just has a knack for words unlike any other.Â
He writes a lot of letters home, not just to you, but to the rest of his family, his siblings, some of his friends, and definitely his professors.Â
So because youâre close with Webâs family, you do get to read a lot of his writing.Â
His letters to you are different though. Theyâre darker and a little less polished. Sometimes, they frighten you a little bit. Web talks about things youâre not you really understand - like how pointless death is, how empty it makes him feel to see his friends get KIA, how he carries around guilt about surviving this long like an anchor.Â
Refers to you exclusively in his letters by your first name, his writing is always serious and somber and drenched with heavy emotions, so pet names just really donât fit the vibe.
He quotes poetry and literature quite a bit when he writes. It all feels a bit Gothic, but youâve always known that Web has found clarity in the world through books, so you donât begrudge him a little poetic license.
Signs his letters Yours in perpetuity, David K. Webster.Â
Asks you to send books. Sometimes he asks for something specific, but other times heâs happy to get whatever you pick out for him. Your tastes are different from his; you prefer to choose shorter, gentle pieces about life in the British countryside or Western adventure novels. Web would prefer Wadsworth or Hemingway, but he figures itâs probably in his best interests to read things that donât tackle dark themes. You always tuck a letter for him into the first few pages.Â
He doesnât save your letters, per se, although he does save every single book you send to him. When he gets home, he puts them all up on the bookshelf in his office. Even though theyâre beat up and stained and not at all fitting with the rest of his collection, theyâre front and center.Â
Sometimes he takes a stab at sketching in his letters. Heâs not bad, either. You try to encourage him to take lessons when he gets home, which he never does. He secretly loves how much you love his drawings though.

Joe Liebgott
KING OF DIRTY LETTERS
You definitely like to re-read his letters⊠again and againâŠ
Not every letter is a dirty one. But most are. Or at least have a dirty section in them.Â
You donât know how this man makes you feel wanted from halfway around the world, but somehow he does. Lord knows you love a lot about your Joey, but you didnât realize how good he was with words until you found yourself practically stalking the mailman, hoping for another delivery from Joe.
Uses a lot of pet names in his letters. Baby girl, Doll, Princess are some of his favorites. Literally never calls you by your name.
Always signs off with Your Joey.Â
Even when Joe is clearly in a dark place, his letters are saturated with how much he needs you and how he canât stop thinking about all the ways heâs going to have you when he gets home.Â
When your mother finds one of Joeyâs letters to you, she throws an absolute shit fit and freaks out that youâre sleeping with someone before youâre married. It takes a long time for you to convince her that you havenât slept with Joey yet, youâre just⊠really into dirty talking.
She kinda chills after that but still looks at you suspiciously every time you get a letter from him.
She never tells your dad though, which makes you think maybe sheâs more supportive of your relationship with him than you realized.
After working up the courage, you write Joe a letter that is so sinful you actually doubt whether you should send it in the mail, it just feels so wrong.
When I say this man goes crazy for that letter, it is an understatement. He is out of his mind and immediately writes you a reply telling you so. Basically begs you for more.
Even though your letters back and forth with Joe are pretty raunchy, thereâs also a sweetness to them. Heâs always sure to mention that This ainât just all talk, Doll. When youâre Mrs. Liebgott, youâre gonna see exactly what Iâve been writing about. Which you know is still pretty dirty, but hey, heâs basically proposing to you, right?
You are not the least bit surprised to know that he kept your naughtiest letters when he finally gets home.
But, Joseph Liebgott is a man of his word, and even though he is clearly dying to and youâre practically begging him to, he doesnât make good on all those dirty promises until after youâre wearing his ring.
Much to your delight, you find that he is just as good with actions as he is with words.

SHIP: Oscar Piastri x Reader BLURB: A miserably cold day during winter break gives Oscar the opportunity to have a closer look at one of your hobbies. CONTENT WARNINGS: passing mention of alcohol, fluff, you/yours pronouns with no specified gender, no use of Y/N

Weak white daylight streamed in through the gauzy curtains of your sitting room - first illuminating dust particles caught floating in its path, then reaching you on the sofa. The sage green record player played its honeyed vintage notes at a leisurely pace, the soft tones of a melody on piano only there for you to hear.
By all means, you were happy with this. The radiator right under the window kept the sitting room at a relatively normal temperature considering the miserable January weather outside, and you buried yourself in blankets in addition - if someone were to ask, you'd have to guess some number between 3 and 5, all covering different parts of you.
The collection of essays you'd been dragging yourself through reading was finally finished, which made you more than happy to pull one of your 'rainy day' books off the shelf and decide if it was a worthy successor to the last novel you'd read. The essays were incredibly interesting and provided a fresh view of the world, sure, but sometimes all you really needed was a good piece of fiction to sink your teeth into. Your boyfriend sometimes teased you about the number of books you bought and never read, but your argument was sound: you often needed the story to find you at the right time to enjoy it fully.
Speak of the devil - a door down the hallway creaked open and closed faintly, and you hear Oscar's soft footsteps on the hardwood shortly before he speaks up.
"Good morning." He really was the embodiment of a polite cat right then and there - cozy clothes, tired smile, a voice still scratchy from sleep.
"Good morning, darling," you smiled back. His hands held the back of the couch behind you, and you observed the way they supported his weight before craning your neck upwards to see him looking at you upside-down. "How'd you sleep? Sorry if the music woke you up."
"Oh, no, don't worry about that." He rested his entire forearm on the backrest now, laying his head in a way where it was right next to yours. You swore you got goosebumps from the way his morning voice spoken right next to your ear scratched your brain just right. "I couldn't even hear it in the hallway. I slept fine. Take it you did too?"
You nodded, sitting up slightly and reaching for his cheek to press a soft kiss on his lips. He let out a satisfied hum, reaching up to tangle his hand in your hair. You weren't a new couple by any means, having not been in your 'honeymoon lovebirds' phase for at least a year or two by now; still, you loved that every kiss and small gesture you exchanged still made you feel as warm and bright as the day you met.
"How does coffee sound?" He asked when he pulled away, his hand traveling from your hair to cradle your face. Tiny sparks lit a fire under where his thumb ran over the apple of your cheek, and you briefly shut your eyes to savor the moment.
"Coffee sounds great, Osc,â you spoke, and after his pointed pause chuckled, âplease and thank you."
His laugh is in harmony with the song on the vinyl - although maybe youâre just young and in love and so it seems that way. The sound of him grinding coffee beans for you both sort of fades into the background, so you donât really notice heâs back until a latteâs placed on the side table next to you. In the rich foam, the figure of a lopsided heart catches your attention.
âYou did latte art for me,â you gush, a grin seemingly stuck on your face as he sets his mug down by the other end of the sofa. Itâs nearly surreal: the athlete behind the visor is curling up on the couch with you now, sipping a latte from a matching mug and choosing a Netflix show. Lifting the needle and turning off the turntable, you watch the vinyl come to a slow stop before putting it away with care.
Youâre left sitting in a comfortable silence after that, with background noise of muffled dialogue and the occasional flipping of a page. He did manage to end up with his legs completely in your space under the blankets, though. Not that you minded.
âYou donât have anything planned for today, right?â Is it shitty if he secretly really, really hoped you would say no?
"No.â He breathed a silent sigh of relief, and you smiled at his antics. âI was thinking about maybe, possibly taking a walk later, butâŠ" you looked out of the window. The street outside was empty and foggy, and the overcast sky enveloped everything like the worldâs most depressing duvet. âIâd have to bundle up, and Iâm just not feeling it right now.â
"We could have a day in. Just the two of us."
"That sounds lovely, Osc." And with that, you were back to silence, each of you cozy in your own little bubble.
Oscar did end up having to get up later on your behalf to bring you a snack, but he lingered by the bookshelf for a strangely long time on his way back.
"What's up?" You glanced over to see him craning his head sideways and examining the titles.
"I kind of want to read with you. Just⊠not sure what." Itâs cute how focused he was - his brows furrowed adorably and he chewed his lower lip a little. He didnât even know how attractive you found him like that.
"I thought you weren't a book person."
"You seem like you enjoy it." He shrugged. "Any recommendations?"
It was a couple of beats of collective pondering of the titles before you clicked your tongue and pointed to the middle rack. "Uh, fifth from the left, white spine with blue letters."
He followed your instructions, but playfully rolled his eyes at the title. "'Normal People'? Is this supposed to mean something?"
"It's not a jab at you, it's just a pretty good character study that reads fairly easily." You sounded a little defensive, so he lifted his hands up in mock surrender before collapsing back on the sofa and curling up. He didnât miss the opportunity to steal one of your blankets then, laughing at the death glare you sent him.
You waited for him to settle before scooting yourself and the blanket nest over, resting under his left arm. A satisfied sigh left you at the sensation of immense warmth and comfort you found and let him know you donât plan to move away anytime soon.
Not that he really minded.
âWho has to cook?â He asked you around midday, both of you already deeply invested in your reading.
You hummed indecisively. âI'll rock-paper-scissors you for it?â
Oscar agreed, and you both cupped your fists in your left hands.
"Best of three," he added after losing the first round. You're unsurprised he lost overall - he always chose scissors first.
âBest of five?â He suggested.
âGet to it, pastry boy. Chop chop.â
He sighed dramatically, like the weight of the world sat upon his shoulders, and stood up suddenly, leaving you to fall into a fit of giggles - now in a fully lying position.
Eventually, you poured yourself a drink from the fridge and sat yourself all pretty on the kitchen island. He hummed along to some song from his Spotify, and you took a moment to really admire him. Even in a hoodie and sweatpants, his hair still fell in that graceful swoop across his forehead; the way you can see his forearms flex with how he rolled up his sleeves made your thoughts race.
You did also catch yourself staring at his ass. It was unavoidable.
âThey should call you Oscar Pi-ass-tri, goddamn.â
He glanced at you over his shoulder and cocked his hip with a sly smile. âDid you put any alcohol in there, baby?â
âYou know I'm just naturally like this.â
âI do.âÂ
"You know," you took a sip after an extended silence, "the sluttiest thing a man can do is know how to cook delicious meals."
He was quiet for a moment, stirring a pot on the stove, before he shrugged with a small smile tugging upwards at the corners of his lips. "'Guess I'm a filthy whore of a man then."
You both paused, again, and he looked up at you from the pasta sauce he was making. You could have heard a pin drop, then.
In the moment after, you were both roaring with laughter - he was almost on his knees on the floor while your knuckles were white with how hard you were gripping the countertop not to fall off.
You barely wheezed out, "That's your new name in my phone," before Oscar was practically folded over again and you were struggling to catch your breath.
The pasta ended up tasting divine, and you were both full before you knew it. The couch welcomed you back after lunch, the TV just on as background noise to avoid the afternoon drowsiness.
"You were right, you know," he said while marking his place - over your dead body would you let him dog-ear the page - "it is a good character study. I wish they'd just, well, you know. Talk about their problems."
"It's a little frustrating, yeah,â you mumbled. He was so indescribably warm and comfortable and you really couldnât make yourself move to look at him from where you were still lying under his arm and several blankets. A certain comfort settled deep into your bones, and you felt as heavy as lead. "It ends well, I promise."
"It better." He grumbled, and you responded with a huffy giggle.
While he had a late lie-in, you had been up for a while already by that point. After a few too-long moments of silence, he lifted his elbow and noticed you dozed off completely. Your weight was comfortable on him, and the story was interesting, so he put yours away on the coffee table and decided he could waste the afternoon just like this.
Ultimately, you stirred a couple of times throughout the few hours you were out - never truly waking up, except to pull yourself closer to him. He was more than halfway through the little paperback you assigned him and, surprisingly, he was actually enjoying himself. Maybe it was just because he got to participate in a hobby you like as well. Or maybe he enjoyed the closeness and intimacy of getting to read your little pencil notes in the margins; enjoyed the soothing rhythm of your chest rising and falling; enjoyed the small pleasures of ânormal peopleâ things.
It was such a perfect moment that, for an instant, he felt like he could spend every single one of the rest of his days like this.
Note: I'm not as happy with this as I was with the Max fic (and I'm upset with myself for not posting it when I said I would?? alas we live) but Oscar is one of my favorite drivers and I hope I did him justice lol

inspired by a tiktok that @irishmanwhore sent me.
joe and domme are like satellites, orbiting and always in pull of each other.
poll looks like it's kinda torn between waiting and releasing the finale early, so in the interim, tada!

________________________
march isnât frigid. not by any stretch of the imagination. but it is cold, the windâs not warmed just yet. april knocks, waiting to be let in, but march holds strong. and for domme and joe, itâs just the start. their anniversary comes in quiet on march 19th every year. it dawns a month after valentineâs day. a day reverent, but still gentle and warm for them.Â
for joe, valentineâs day is in the tail spin of the season, a day that he marks each year weeks in advance, before the season begins so he doesnât forget it. he schedules emailed reminders to himself to a burner account that domme doesnât have access too. an account that joe keeps littered with lists: potential presents, vacation ideas, her favorite restaurants, her favorite foods & desserts, her passionate dislikes, her luke warm dislikes, crime scene evidence. the last one is just a thread of pictures of her leaving the toothpaste cap unscrewed, the shoes she leaves near the doors sometimes, the cans of half finished drinks sheâll forget about.Â
joe knows she has a list of them as well for the crimes he commit: him putting back a jug of milk or juice thatâs only have a few drops left in it, the times sheâs caught him attempting to sneak her skincare products, him leaving lights on into rooms he wonât be coming back to anytime soon. they talk about them in the relationship check ins, they laugh about them.Â
but there is effort. the picture heâll get so that domme can force herself to remember to screw the toothpaste cap on. joe buys double of her skincare when itâs low so that they can both enjoy it when heâs the last one to use it. though he is working on not putting back a basically empty jug and dommeâs attempted to remember to finish all her drinks before she departs a room. itâs not perfect, but there is effort. the soft sighs of domme when she returns to a room to spy the can she left or joe realizing the jug he put back is empty. always a muttered, ânext time.â how beautiful and magical it is to know that there will be next time. they know that even if they didnât do it perfectly this time there is still the opportunity to do better next time.Â
joeâs always keeping valentineâs day on his mind; has a countdown that begins in october with monthly emails until december hits, and then the countdown goes weekly. by january, heâs getting daily reminders to himself. domme and joe spend them in the quiet dark back corners of restaurants, or tucked into the formal dining room of the house, or on massage tables, or in Veronicaâs salon suite, just them, laughing--together. they end valentines day at home, in the living room most times with a craft date: legos, or painting candles, a request that domme made on their first valentineâs day thatâs tradition.Â
this year it was a painted âhug t-shirtâ. the two of them giggling with white wine swimming through their veins, the TV playing softly in the background with a reality show that she begged him to watch. she promised heâd like it but joe didnât even pay attention to it. too enamored by the stroke of the paint brush over his skin. dommeâs intense concentration stole his breath, the bristles thick with the paint, wet strokes that shouldâve tickled. that did tickle, but joe held himself still, chest moving slowly and deeply so that he didnât ruin her work. she slipped the soft blue that matched his eyes over his wrist and palms, down his finger tips. the paint cold in the huff of the heating that ticked back on.Â
once she was done, she slipped in close to his chest, her white t-shirt unbranded and blank until joe wrapped his arms around her body, humming at the feeling of her nestled into his throat. her laughter warm and whispering over his skin. he held her tight and long--the seconds melting into minutes. her legs rested over his, the two of them sat on the floor with the same cloth tarp domme used when she repainted joeâs office beneath them.Â
he was slow to peel his arms away, only doing it when domme asked, âneed longer?â
joe didnât. he wanted it, but didnât need it. he peeled his arms back slowly; didnât want to ruin the t-shirt by pulling away too fast. domme shuffled back before turning and there sticking to the white fibers was the imprint of joeâs hands and forearms around the shirt. âlooks good, baby,â he hummed.Â
domme grinned. âmy turn?â
âlet me wash this off and you got it.â
joe scrubbed the blue off, kneeling against the shower basin to prevent the paint from staining the sink. the paint mixed down with the water, a cloudy mixture into the drains. the soft blue turned into something almost translucent, something in the liminal space of opaque and see through. by the time he returned to the living room, her t-shirt was carefully peeled off and on a hanger, ready to settle into the laundry room where the t-shirts would dry.Â
domme settled her arms into his lap after joe slipped his shirt on, the hairs on her arms hardly pressing against his thighs until he gently tapped the end of the brush into her palm.Â
ârelax. iâve got you,â he reassured. knew that domme wasnât attempting to hover out of malicious intent. just a force of habit, her not wanting to impose.Â
and she relaxed, dropped her arms against his thighs, the full weight of them, and joe painted the skin of her forearms. traced the paint that matched her eyes down her palms, covered her digits and she never flinched. the room silent as joe worked. an easy comforting sound with the soft blues of the TV dancing over them.Â
if joe hadnât gone first, he wouldâve never known that the bristles were a little spiky. he wouldnât have guessed that the paint still sat wet and was slow to warm given the stillness of domme. she exhaled and inhaled and if not for the soft wisps of those breathes over his cheek from how close they sat, joe would have believed he was working on canvas rather than skin.Â
âdone,â he whispered, easing the brush into the waiting cup of water.Â
there was no hesitation. domme worked herself in closer, and closer until her arms wound around his waist and then pressed into his back, fingers splayed wide, his body curled around hers. a hum escaped the both of them, or maybe it was shared--one of them starting it and the other one finishing it.Â
she hugged him in a cradle, one arm slightly higher than the other, as if reaching for something but not getting it. joe liquified at the embrace, left behind tissue and vessels rather than bones. she peeled away her finger first. then her palm. inch by inch she moved her arms slower and slower away from him. joe kissed at her cheek and eased back.Â
âhow does it look?â
âreally good,â she answered and then kissed at his jaw. âiâll be right back.â
her hug looked like craving carved into fabric. crawled up his back like she was praying for something. his hug looked like holding in, a selfish cupping of her body. joe yearned for her. because sheâs never felt like an imposition. joe welcomed her in, always into his space, reserved a corner of his mind just for her, a part of him attuned to her like holy men to their gods. joe prayed for her, to her, about her.Â
they shared each other that night nice and slow after their t-shirts were hung up in the laundry room. there was no power play, no demands, no commands. just reverence, whispered, canât believe your mineâs followed up with i love you. not about possession but about belonging. they belonged together. they belonged in this fate together.Â
the reason for joeâs obsession with valentineâs day isnât because he feels like he has to do something flashy itâs because he loves what becomes behind it. valentineâs day is just the precipice. the ledge thatâs actually just a step. it looks like the fall, true and sudden, but itâs soft and slow. thereâs something to catch them just beneath it, a soft landing before the true leap: march 19th.
their anniversary is a sacred practice; itâs only them. phones are tucked away and can only be pulled out for food. thereâs always a slow morning with whispered laughs, breakfast ordered in because joe refuses to have her cook, refuses for her to âlift a single pan todayâ and joe knows better than to get into her kitchen on such a day because if she canât life a pan, neither can he. so they trade off--she covers breakfast, joe pays for lunch, dinner is a toss up--sometimes itâs leftovers or whatever joe asked his chef to make for them. sometimes itâs a fancy dinner.Â
only the oven, and the alarm clocks tell them the time. the sun rising and setting means little in terms of being a compass for the day. itâs just joe and domme. they donât go anywhere, not really. they sit with cups of coffee or tea under blankets in the morning, their to-go plates between them. they sit out until the sun warms them. they check in--no matter how big or how small.Â
âyou mentioned you wanted more quiet time? any ideas on what that looks like for you? how i can build that time with you?â
âi know you want to travel more, get away from the desk job at times. whatâs on your travel list? where would you go in your wildest dreams?â
âdo you like the new detergent?âÂ
âi donât love that new oat milk brand. can we try oatly again?â
âdo you think weâll be married in a year? do you still want that?â
âyou should still sign it. i want to make sure youâre taken care of even if it doesnât work out between us. iâm always going to care about you to make sure youâre going to be okay.â
âaliens are real, baby. and if i ever get abducted, i think i have the right to ask you to try and help get me back.â
âiâd be useless against aliens if they exist.â
âfor a space nerd, you really should believe in their existence. we exist so i think itâs safe to say that other life forms do exist too.â
âiâll believe in aliens when i see one. by the way, whatâs on your to be read list? did you ever get back on track?â
they talk for hours. the conversation meanders until someone gets hungry again. they go rummaging and if thereâs nothing to satisfy, theyâll give in and order again, unburying their phones from the upstairs bedside table drawer long enough to order and get the estimate on when itâll be ready for pick up.Â
between the morning and the noon feedings, they shower, share the spray of the nozzle, trace the ripples of backs and spines. take turns in front of the spray, scratch at scalps with shampoo and run the conditioner over strands. slip into shared clothes--itâs mostly joeâs stuff, but occasionally domme with buy t-shirts bigger than necessary and wear them just so her perfumeâs embedded into the strands so joe can steal them and wear a piece of her.Â
itâs intentional.
they move lunch inside, curl up on the couch. sometimes silent, sometimes continuing conversations from earlier. when the foodâs all gone, domme asks joe to read whatever book heâs acquired to for his off season binge to her. her head rests on his thigh. his hair falls into his face as he holds the book above her face. he rests one hand into her stomach, rubbing at the middle of her torso with a slow and absent stroke until he has to turn the page before he places his band back on her.Â
joe will bribe her with kisses to play a few rounds of chess. she loses on purpose and joe can tell before he shakes his head, his face soft with his glasses on the bridge of his nose. his eyes are crinkled up, blue irises almost lost in the amusement that paints his face. joe shakes his head with his laughter. âno, for real. one more and you have to play for real.â
âyouâll win anyhow.â
âyou never know that. youâve beaten me before.â
domme gives in, re-assembles her black pieces onto the board. theyâre nestled up against the coffee table, sitting on the floor, legs sprawled out under it, teasing taps during the game. not even the TV is on. the speakers are off. itâs just them and the tapping of the play clock with each move.Â
joe holds a crooked finger to his mouth, eyes darting over the board. dommeâs reclined back, palms pressed into the carpeted of the living room, watching the calculus in his gaze, thinking about not only his move but her move after it. his fingers move, hover over his knight. heâs not dedicated himself to the move, still assessing. she takes him in, in the soft afternoon glow of the sun through the shades.Â
he looks angelic, even with the furrow of his brow, even with the black framed glasses. the tip of his nose kissed by a sunbeam, his skin a muted white--his tan from the season fading off him. a few faint tan lines cling to him, but theyâd only be perceptible with a careful eye. the weight of the season has just started to roll off him--good or bad thereâs always a kind of pressure valve thatâs constantly turned on for joe. heâs always carrying something. but not here, his shoulders rest down instead up at his ears. he looks like he rolled out of hot shower, muscles loose and fluid on his body.Â
joes doesnât have to carry anything here, not now. itâs just them. he just is. he exists as he always should--just joe, who puts back not even a full cup of juice back into the fridge, he huffs about the drawers and cabinets she leaves open. the joe that packs her lunch for her, drives her everywhere even when he doesnât need to do it.Â
joe taps at the play clock and dommeâs barely caught his move, saw the piece shift because he moved swiftly. enough to turn her attention back to the game but sheâs looking again to the board. takes it in with a lazy drag of her eyes. she commits sooner than joe, moves her piece and knows itâs a sacrifice for the bigger goal. itâll make joe pause. heâll play it out, think about all his other options too. but he will go for it in the end.Â
she taps at the clock.Â
joe huffs before he grins. âyou know me too well.â
âi could still lose,â she whispers back.
âno, i-i think youâve put me in quite the bind.â
but joe doesnât give up immediately. even with the hushed ticking of the clock, he doesnât let that put him into a corner. he delays it, doesnât go for the enticing trap. they dance around each other, for how long doesnât really matter. theyâre not keeping track of time here, just each other.Â
until dommeâs staring down joeâs king. âcheckmate.â
joe laughs, head falling back on his neck. âtold you. i told you.â
because even though domme hadnât played chess a day in her life until joe mentioned it, until he taught her, she is good at it. she loses to joe more than she wins, but joe knows sheâs capable of winning, can tell when sheâs not really playing to win, just moving pieces to make it look like sheâs playing.Â
and just before evening crest up the horizon, they slip back upstairs. joe unveils his new present hiding spot, at the top of his side of the closet, behind a few boxes of shoes. itâs a physical photo album of their pictures, the selfies off his phones, the shots sheâs snagged of him late at night or in the mornings, that joe wasnât aware that a camera was on him, snuggled under blankets, caught mid laughter. there are photos of her in front of the stove, in the backyard, in the midst of singing into wooden spatulas. the date nights, pieces of the notes sheâs snuck into his suitcases, notes that joe snuck into her lunch bag. a collection of their love meticulous catergorized.Â
âwant to fill more of those too,â joe admits, his smile unsure on his face. âreceipts, concert stubs, all of it.â
dommeâs breath is shaky, an inhale that rattles before sheâs pulling his face to her. the kiss unhurried, drips with a silent i can love you forever. joe could do this forever too. knows it.Â
dommeâs shier with her gift--a first-- and joe takes her hand to give it a quick squeeze. âitâs two parts.âÂ
she digs out an old suitcase of hers and unzips it. they rotate hiding spots for every occasion. most get repeated, but itâs a nice game to look around the house and know that something could be lurking in the most unsuspecting places but never wanting to discover it early. itâs a rather large rectangle that she hands to joe, wrapped in a soft white and gold wrapping paper--a staple for domme because she refuses to use bags, says she likes watching him tear into the paper with the same fervor as children do at christmas.Â
joeâs sure to always deliver and admires with soft fingertips at her meticulous work before he curls his fingers into the dip and tears, laughing at how she grins up at him, still kneeling in front of the suitcase. the middle is a bright yellow before it opens up to a soft orange ring, and then red, and a blue around the edges.Â
it takes joe a second, but he can see a foot print, the long traces of what looks like a calf and thigh before he carries up to the top of the canvas, the globes wide at the top and he tucks the canvas up to his chest. âthatâs not what i think it is?â he laughs.Â
domme grins with a nod. âand if it is?â
âitâs going in my office. tonight.â joe peels the painting back down and stares at it. definitely dommeâs ass. painting onto the canvas. the reds, oranges, and yellows all haloing the other to emphasize heat, a topographical map of her body. he traces the raised edges made from the stroke of the paint brush. âthis is soâŠâ joe loses the word.Â
itâs not hot, itâs not sexy. itâs gracious. itâs giving to him. not a sacrifice, itâs willing. joe presses the painting back up to his chest, feels the beating of his heart erratic and rapid in his throat. âyouâre being quiet naughty though,â joe quips.Â
âi have something sweet too.âÂ
joe sets the painting down on the bench and takes the box she offers up next. itâs wrapped to in the same white and gold wrapping paper. it too is torn into, greedy and shakily. the cardboard box is plain as it stares up at joe. he untucks the flaps to unveil a shadow box. inside of it rests an arrangements--stars, and asteroids, planets, a dizzying kind of collection of colors. heâs careful as he holds it and shines it into the light of the closet--something that looks like a black hole rests off into a corner of the display.
âa composite,â domme explains. ânight sky from the day we met back and then march 19th 2022 when you asked me to be your girlfriend. itâs supposed to look like a galaxy too. the artist said they sort of went overboard when i told them you like space and your favorite parts of it so, consider it a treasure hunt.â
joeâs breath freezes in his throat. he looks down to domme and she swims. he blinks and sheâs clear for a second before sheâs blurry again.Â
âoh, baby, do you like it?â she asks.Â
âlove it,â joe whispers, afraid to shatter the moment. now itâs his turns to take her, kiss her with everything in him that he hopes conveys: you make me feel the most loved and most cared for being on this planet.Â
dinnerâs a lost thought. joe swears his hungry disappears and leaves him thirsty. he needs a drink, wants to say thank you with more than just words, though heâs repeating the mantra between kisses. it wonât be real until sheâs falling apart on his tongue, and fingers, slipping down his throat.Â
he loves this woman with every fiber of his being. loves her, loves that being with her doesnât mean heâs pouring from an empty cup. knows that this is it for him. she is it for him. so completely, so utterly it. perfection in a thing thatâst not perfect.Â
but there is effort. there is domme, who giggles into the kisses, sighs into his open mouth after joe declares, âyouâve ruined me. put me back together again and i hope iâve ruined you too. i hope that nothingâs the same after this.â
because joeâs selfish but damn it all. heâs going to have what he wants, just as long as domme says, âif this is ruined, then iâd call us a masterpiece.â
itâs slow. touches that donât feel real, but still leave sear marks in the wake of them. the carpet is soft. and though it does dig into joeâs knees, he knows theyâd never make it to the bed. doesnât care if they do or donât make it to the bed. joe revels in the drag of her nails into his hair, how sheâs slow but careful as she pulls the frames from his face, holds his jaw itâs a petal to a flower, not fragile like glass, but like fine china. something to be prayed too, prayed about, prayed for.Â
domme peels her t-shirt off his body, a silly vintage graphic t-shirt about âthe way to a manâs heart is through is flyâ and joeâs eases her tank top up, swirls the tip of his tongue over the pert bud exposed to the slightly chilly march air. itâs an exchange. for every move joe takes, she follows it up. a dance, but thereâs not follower or leaders, just the consumption of flesh, the succumbing of themselves to carnal desire.Â
the whispers are swallowed down, the laughter is tutted, sighs and groans push up over their throats in exhales. she whines when he takes too long and he laughs, âpatience, baby. going to savor you.â
like he doesn't do every time. like joe isnât always trying to commit to memory every second with her. but domme huffs, exhales his name when he kisses down her stomach. when his mouth connects to her core, she thanks him, a pot of gratitude bubbling now with every flick of his tongue.Â
they already know each other, but they explore like theyâre trying to find something new, something unturned. curiosity that burns desire and desire that freshens their touch with curiosity. everything is familiar; everything is new. joe pulls her apart on his tongue, watches the way she shudders with her orgasm, shoulders digging into the floor as her back arches up for him.Â
she reaches for him, a scrambling of her fingers over his shoulder but he carries himself back up, tracing the thumping of her heart with his tongue. âgod, need you,â she exhales.
and joeâs not a fool, not in the slightest. âyou have me.â he is a bit of a smartass though.Â
domme laughs all the same, hooking his arm around his neck, stretches up to kiss him. âplease.â
it breaks him--one word.Â
he loves the sound of her broken begs. he gives in, bottoms out in her in a stuttered few pulses. his pants arenât all the way down. one of her ankles is still tangled up in the band of her shorts. the cotton panties are shoved aside. itâs messy, but raw, slow andÂ
âfeels so fucking good,â she exhales. âalways feels so fucking right.â
because it is. this is so right.Â
joe breathes into the juncture of her neck and shoulder, takes her body in slow. this is the only place he wants to be, with her, like this, hot, and needy, satisfied--if only for just a moment.Â
domme nudges his head out of her neck and he obliges, mouth and jaw slacked, foreheads resting, sharing breathes. urgent and sharp moans falling off their tongues. but it feels so fucking right.Â
orgasm is just an added bonus. because joeâs fueled insteady wanting to hear her say his name, over and over, and over and over.Â
but the flutter of her cunt is enough for joe to know her body is on that dangerous edge, that sheâs going to spill over him, leave a mess on his cock. but all he wants really is her, âfucking perfect,â exhaled over her lips like sacrament.Â
joe watches the flutter of her eyes, how she canât keep her eyes open, how her eyes roll back just a little. a grin lifts his lips before kisses her, âthatâs it, baby. give it all to me. youâre so beautiful like that, breathless on my cock.â
his orgasm isnât that far behind, feels it building in his toes and lower stomach, knows that with the sweat brewing on his forehead that this has been longer than either one of them suspected. but thereâs been no rush--just them, steady, slow, punctuated thrusts, an easy roll of hips.Â
joeâs cuming before he can register it, tries to watch the sly smirk on dommeâs face but loses the battle and lets his eyes slip close. her hands are in his hand, her lips pressed against the shell of his ear, âan angel.â
his body is spent, and molten a top her. domme curls around him, kisses of his temple, brushing hair back and back--a repetitive motion that soothes joe in his comedown--an exhale after a held inhale.Â
âi love you,â domme murmurs against the shell of his ear.Â
âlove you more,â joe whispers. his voice frayed and raspy.Â
ânot possible.â
âpossible.â

Bobby's 2023 Media Wrap-Up
So! Like I said before, this past year I kept a running list of everything I watched, every game I finished, every new album I listened to, etc., and wrote one-paragraph blurbs with my thoughts on every single one. Please enjoy this journey through everything I liked, or didn't like, in 2023, with my favorites of the year listed at the bottom.
(Yes! This is long!!)
Some notes:
I mainly only included things I finished. Exceptions are marked with an asterisk.
I included some YouTube stuff as "TV shows" - mostly particularly long, high effort video essays and documentaries.
I was a bit less adventurous than I'd like to have been this year. Part of this was just that I felt like I was constantly playing catch-up with Big Releases I felt obligated to check out, and part of this was just executive dysfunction from burnout. Wait until you see how long it took me to beat Mario Wonder lmao
Yes, I need to read more books. I don't read a lot of books these days. I need to get back to Discworld.

January
1/15: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (MSQ) - Very slow at times, the Primal shit is generally extremely lame to me outside of the boss fights themselves, but god if the quality of life improvements over WoW, the JRPG energy, and the fact that it Actually Has A Story carry it pretty hard.
1/18: Sonic the Hedgehog: Scrapnik Island miniseries - One of the most creative and compelling uses of the Sonic IP⊠ever? Fantastic little self-contained arc about the struggles of Eggmanâs abandoned creations that gracefully weaves between heartfelt optimism and moody horror with some of the best art ever seen in a Sonic comic.
1/18: Mega Man X4 - Glad I finally actually beat this after never even beating any of the Mavericks as a kid! I can see why itâs a lot of peoplesâ favorites. The gameplay has very little of that X series bloat and is just fun, especially after getting Xâs armor upgrades. (But the story really is a long series of missed opportunities.)
February
2/2: Donks - Felix Colgrave continues to be an exceptional artist. The sound design on this is fantastic and really sells this short as something unique. Had to go back and watch his older stuff again after this.
2/4: Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward (3.0 - 3.3 MSQ) - I get it now. I get why people say this is just a proper mainline Final Fantasy game built into the framework of an MMO. That shit ruled. Not even walking back the drama in UlâDah from the end of ARR can sour me on it because the main storyline was so strong.
2/8: Disneyland's Forgotten Sci-Fi Rock Band - Live From the Space Stage - A nice and honest tribute to a group of artists who could have easily been forgotten. In hindsight this feels like a precursor to Kevinâs Disney Channel jingle video, a tribute to the unsung artists pouring their hearts into âlesserâ art for a megacorporation, art that was designed to be transient but sticks with people nonetheless.
2/9: Metroid Prime Remastered* - Not gonna finish because I just played through the Wii version in 2021, but still. Very, very pretty remaster.
2/16: Theatrhythm Final Bar Line - Itâs more Theatrhythm. What more could I want
2/17: JoJoâs Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean (anime) - Probably the best part of the anime so far (assuming they continue on to SBR). A near perfect mix of the more structured plot of part 5 with the goofiness of parts 3 and 4 that crescendos into a fantastic, bombastic, emotional, bittersweet ending. The use of footage from the original opening and the new ending set to Roundabout in the finale were perfect, and made me intensely nostalgic for the early days of my JoJo fandom between seasons 1 and 2 of the anime.
2/22: Aggretsuko Season 5 - I donât really know what to make of this one. Once you get past the agonizing initial arc all about Haida where Retsuko has to be his overbearing mommy GF who flips out and starts spying on him when sheâs left on read and chides him when he misbehaves, it feels like an improvement over the previous seasons. But I donât know how much of that is due to the extremely low bar set by season 4. And then the ending is extremely rushed and anticlimactic. They got legally married and the only acknowledgement was a shot of them signing the paperwork in a montage partway through the final episode?????????
2/24: Double Fine PsychOdyssey - God, what a journey the making of this game was. I already loved 2 Playerâs past efforts at documenting Double Fineâs process, but this takes it to a whole new level. This feels culturally significant. The depth and honesty with which they depict not just the nitty gritty of making a game, but also the inherent struggles of working on a collaborative creative work for years at a time, is astounding. Not to mention that they were there to capture the shift from office life to remote work as COVID hit. So much of this would have been nightmarishly stressful to watch if I didnât already know how successful the game was, but thatâs just because they really didnât sugarcoat it. And yet even after all that, it leaves me feeling optimistic about video games as an art form in a way that the constant headlines about cynical live service games donât. There are still people out there pouring their hearts into making real art, and this is their story. Everyone who plays video games should watch this.
2/25: Cracker Island (Gorillaz) - New Gorillaz albums feel like less of an event these days, but after Humanz it feels like theyâre just more chill with the project and their ambitions with it. Every couple years we get some more laid back jams from Damon along with some fun new collabs. Hard to complain. Favorite track: New Gold
2/25: Pool Kids (Pool Kids) - I discovered this band because Derek knows them and was excited when they got a song added to Fortnite through the Bandcamp collab. Always down to find more cool indie rock bands I can vibe with. The mix of dreamy vocals and energetic riffs on some of the tracks here almost fill the Crying-shaped hole in my heart. Almost⊠Favorite track: Conscious Uncoupling
2/25: Insane in the Rain (insaneintherainmusic) - I thought it was really funny timing when Carlos announced that his first original project would be a jazz fusion album inspired by acts like T-Square and Casiopea right as I was getting into those two specific bands. The final product does not disappoint. Favorite track: Insane in the Rain
2/26: Get Up Sequences Part Two (The Go! Team) - Iâve never been one to believe that a bandâs sound has to remain exactly the same forever, but it really does hit you hard that the first two tracks here sound like classic The Go! Team. Their more recent cleaner sound is still here too, though, for a nice mix of old and new. Favorite track: Divebomb
2/28: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury (Season 1) - Oh my god. Oh my god. I got distracted around the time I was finishing SLARPG, but finally catching up now, wow. My assumption that the seemingly lighter tone of the series compared to the prologue was there to lull us into a false sense of security before twisting the knife when war finally breaks out was spot on. This is peak Gundam.
March

3/4: Pizza Tower - One of the best platformers Iâve played in a long time. It transcends its blatant Wario Land inspirations with the sheer speed at which Peppino can move and the way things like the level design, his wall running, and even the hidden ability to do a second lap around the level reward getting into a flow state where youâre just constantly moving. This is the type of game that wants to turn you into a speedrunner. My only real complaint is a few iffy enemy designs that I wish would get patched.
3/6: Bloons TD 6 * - I bought this before bed one night on a nostalgic whim and then the next morning woke up and saw the Steam receipt email on my phone in one of the most âwhat did I do last nightâ moments of my life. I like when the monkeys pop the balloons.
3/7: The Book of Boba Fett - I put off finishing this show for a very long time but finally caved upon the release of The Mandalorian season 3. This show spends four episodes failing to make me give a shit about Boba Fett trying to be âthe daimyoâ and drive the drug trade off of Tatooine, then just gives up and becomes season 2.5 of Mando, which in turn feels like it undercuts the main series. It fails as both its own story and as a spinoff. I know that finishing this after Andor did it no favors, but WHOOF.
3/12: Obi-Wan Kenobi - Some interesting ideas in the first half hinting at a more introspective show, but itâs mostly swept aside in the back half so it can become a generic Star Wars adventure remixing things from A New Hope and Rebels (and apparently Jedi: Fallen Order). Action scenes have zero stakes because you know nothing can happen to any of the returning characters and none of the new ones are particularly interesting. Why thereâs a second climax hinging on a Luke Skywalker death fakeout eludes me. Obi-Wan throwing the rocks at Vader is one of the funniest things in Star Wars history. But it was still better than Book of Boba Fett, I guess.
3/19: The King of Braves GaoGaiGar - Wow, cool robot indeed⊠GaoGaiGar isnât going to blow anyone away with its writing, but sometimes you just need a really fun monster of the week mecha show with great action and lovably goofy characters. This is a show where like 20% of every episode consists of recycled transformation, combination, and signature attack sequences and I ate it up every time because they look fucking cool as hell. I donât care. Iâd watch Final Fusion another 49 times.
3/21: The Last of Us (HBO) * - Watched the first two episodes out of curiosity, but Iâm not sure if Iâll continue because I donât give a shit about The Last of Us. Itâs definitely a well done adaptation, though, even if I know itâs inevitably going to devolve into miserable torture porn with questionable politics if they adapt Part II faithfully. The ending of episode 2 also lines up perfectly with where I stopped in the game in 2013 lmao
3/27: The Future is a Dead Mall - Decentraland and the Metaverse (Folding Ideas) - Another banger from Dan Olson. This time the premise inherently gives him more time to just show off a bunch of stupid ugly bullshit made by crypto guys, which is fun. My main complaint was that I wished he wouldâve brought up Second Life more as a point of comparison (a thing I basically always want out of discussion of âthe metaverseâ), but he at least did touch on it in the last section.
3/31: The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog - I canât believe after years of begging for the supporting cast to get more and better material in a Sonic game I got my wish in the form of a freeware murder mystery VN released for April Fools. This kicked ass.
April
4/7: Berserk - Completed Miuraâs run and caught up on the chapters that have been released posthumously. Itâs hard to say anything that hasnât been said about Berserk, universally agreed upon as one of the greats of manga and fantasy fiction as a whole. What begins in its first few volumes as a nihilistic and edgy action comic built to facilitate as much sex and gore as possible quickly evolves into something deeply human and vulnerable and beautiful, both figuratively and in terms of its lavish art. The world sucks and is immeasurably cruel, and you will see that cruelty illustrated in graphic, sickening detail repeatedly throughout the series. (Perhaps a little too often throughout the Golden Age, where it feels like Miura never misses an opportunity to threaten Casca with sexual assault mid-battle.) But the point isnât to wallow in that misery. Itâs the story of a victim of horrific abuse learning to slowly open up to others, having those people he cares about torn away from him in the worst night of his life, hardening himself into a cold killing machine, and then slowly learning to open back up again, even if it means leaving himself vulnerable to more hurt. Anyone who says that the series peaked with the eclipse and went downhill in the âGutsâ JRPG Partyâ era is missing the point. Guts needed to find new people in his life to care about, to begin to find happiness again. Because no matter what unspeakable things Guts has gone through, itâs still possible for him to heal and to be loved. It takes time, but eventually you stop and realize that life has moved on.
4/8: Dededeâs Drum Dash Deluxe - Skipped it upon release because I didnât particularly care for the minigame in Triple Deluxe, and I didnât miss much. Itâs fine as a little distraction, but not as a standalone rhythm game with only seven songs. If you donât bother with the hard modes or chase after high scores this game is 15 minutes long. Oh how I yearn for Kirby to get the Theatrhythm treatment.
4/10: The King of Braves: GaoGaiGar FINAL - Eh⊠It was okay. Lots of cool robot fights, but said fights are stitched together with a mediocre plot that tries too hard to be more âmatureâ than its unabashedly schlocky kidsâ show predecessor. Not crazy about the ending, either, which tries to be a bittersweet farewell closing off the series once and for all while also teasing that maybe thereâll be ANOTHER sequel after the OVA series they literally called âFINAL.â Ah well.
4/11: The Owl House - Sad to see this one go, but itâs hard to imagine them doing a better finale than this, even if they had gotten the six seasons they deserved. Iâm not as obsessed with The Owl House as I probably wouldâve been had it come out when I was, like, 20, but itâs a really fantastic show for all the reasons people always say. Great characters, great world, great story. I love that this starry-eyed fantasy story about a teenager finding love and a place where she belongs is also set on the rotting corpse of a titan with Hieronymous Bosch-inspired scenery and freaky monsters everywhere. What a great mix. If anything, I just wish I wouldâve watched the first season as it aired so I couldâve had more time with it.
4/29: Mega Man Battle Network 3: Blue Version - FINALLY beat this via the new collection, 20 years after playing it as my first Mega Man game. (Technically my first was White, not Blue, but whatever.) There are more annoyances than I remember - lots of really really bad forced backtracking sections where you have to revisit every previous part of the internet, low chip drop rates, some really aggravating bosses like BubbleMan and KingMan, etc. But itâs still a great time overall. Itâs Battle Network. In the back half the story gets surprisingly emotional, too. I was always under the assumption that the Hub stuff never came back up much in the story after 1, so I was pleasantly surprised with how relevant it was to the emotional arc of 3.
4/30: Mega Man Battle Network 4: Red Sun * - Yeah Iâm not playing through the whole thing lmao. I just wanted to play the first couple hours for nostalgiaâs sake, and as a baseline for how much better the rest are. Even before getting deep in the game and having to deal with all the shit gated between doing two new game+ playthroughs, itâs immediately obvious how much of a downgrade this one is. Tons of glaring errors and typos all over the script, blander music, a way more boring aesthetic for the internet, and a premise that mostly just recycles the tournament idea from 3.
May
5/14: The Venture Bros. - Glad I finally sat down and watched all of this with Anthony after having seen one (1) episode as a teenager and a bunch of random clips in the years since. Great show. Some jokes in the early seasons havenât aged gracefully, but what the show grows into over time... man. Hank and Dean go from being the butt of the joke to being characters you actually sympathize with - while still also being funny little goofballs. And the journey Henchman 21 goes on throughout the show. Man. Amazing that a comedy like this could run for 20 years and maintain its level of quality. Canât wait for the movie.
5/18: Future Me Hates Me (The Beths) - Okay yeah Iâm now just discovering bands through Fortnite lmao. I canât complain really, they pick some really great indie artists for the in-game radio stations. Anyway: Itâs very easy to win me over with a combination of energetic power pop, catchy guitar riffs, and earnest lyrics like this. One of those albums where three or four tracks in I know I have to buy it. Favorite track: Not Running
5/18: Jump Rope Gazers (The Beths) - Ditto. Favorite track: Dying to Believe
5/18: Expert In A Dying Field (The Beths) - Another good album. (Iâm listening to these in release order.) Iâve been a bit slower to warm up to this one, initially thinking it was a little too mellow overall, but it might be my favorite after a few listens. Some real high highs. Interestingly, the lead singerâs New Zealand accent is also coming out more in her singing? Favorite track: Your Side (or maybe Head in the Clouds)
5/19: The Super Mario Bros. Movie - As a Mario fan, I think I enjoyed it? As a movie, less so? It was decent, in spite of feeling like they came up with a list of fun action setpieces first and then wrote the absolute bare minimum possible for the story scenes tying it all together. Full thoughts here. (This is the first movie Iâve seen this year, huh? I really donât watch a lot of movies.)
5/23: Don't Know What You're In Until You're Out (Gladie) - I feel like I donât like Gladie as much as I should. Their style of noisy indie rock is very much in my wheelhouse, and I do enjoy listening to them, but I dunno. Maybe itâs that the particular style of vocals makes it more monotonous to me. A good album nonetheless, if not 100% my thing. Favorite track: Nothing
5/24: City Slicker (Ginger Root) - Yes I am still making my way through Bandcamp artists I heard on Fortnite donât @ me. Any excuse to get me to listen to some cool city pop-inspired funk like this is a good excuse. Favorite track: Loretta
5/24: Rikki (Ginger Root) - Favorite track: Why Try
5/25: Spotlight People (Ginger Root) - Favorite track: The Classic
5/29: Succession - A good dramedy series that increasingly focuses more on the drama than the comedy as it progresses, but itâs hard to complain about that since the drama is so compellingly produced. I enjoyed it. That being said, I kind of rankle at the claims that itâs The Greatest TV Show Of All Time. Itâs great, donât get me wrong. Amazing performances all around. But the show LOVES to spin its wheels, to repeat itself, and to let most of its interesting dramatic developments fizzle out before anything really comes of them, almost as if the show is constantly getting bored with its own ideas. To some extent this is intentional - Logan Roy is the untouchable billionaire, his kids fail at everything (but will nonetheless remain billionaires), and in the long run none of them really give a shit about anything other than their own status. But itâs not like things tend to visibly impact anyone else, either, be they supporting characters or the world at large. Even the Big Scary Election, where the Roy siblings are directly responsible for plunging the nation into chaos, ultimately has zero impact on the finale a mere two episodes later. Certain Other Things do have an impact in the last season, though, allowing things to meaningfully change for the cast and for the show to sit with the ensuing drama, which has stopped me from souring on Succession more. There was finally a payoff for something. But it does still kind of feel like a show that goes in circles until itâs ready to call it quits, even if those circles did contain a lot of great acting and music along the way.
5/29: Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts - Iâd watched the first 12 episodes when they originally released, but I guess the Netflix binge release and the fact that all three âseasonsâ came out in one year led to me waiting until it finished⊠and then I just never got around to finishing it. Glad I fixed that! Really fun and stylish cartoon with an art style reminiscent of Teen Titans, a hip hop-filled soundtrack, dynamic fight scenes, and a colorful post-apocalyptic world filled with mutant (mostly anthropomorphic) animals. Iâll admit that at times I do kinda roll my eyes at Kipoâs unshakeable belief that everyone can be friends in a way that I donât necessarily with similar shows like Steven Universe, and not every joke lands, but I dunno. Itâs a kidsâ show. Thatâs to be expected. It doesnât detract from the overall package for me.
June

6/1: Craig of the Creek (Season 4) - Itâs been years and Iâm still processing the fact that kids can turn on Cartoon Network and hear Jeff Rosenstock. Anyway! Craig continues to be one of the best cartoons on TV, consistently funny and creative and way more engaging than a show about a bunch of kids LARPing in the woods has any right to be. This season turned into One Piece with the gang effectively hunting down the Poneglyphs in search of a legendary treasure. The kids think itâll be magic. It isn't. An increasing number of cartoon logic gags aside, this show is firmly set in the real world. Does that make it any less interesting? Hell no. Season 3 turned a game of capture the flag into an all-out five episode war between the heroes and villains, filled with dramatic turnabouts and a climactic guest appearance from Del the Funky Homosapien. Iâm sure however they wrap things up in the (sadly shortened) final season, itâll be great. (Also? I would watch a whole show based on that âwhat ifâ episode that jumped forward to everyoneâs 20s.)
6/6: Barry - Holy shit, what a show. I ended up binging it in less than a week in a cycle of âokay, just one more episode.â The way this show is able to swing between tones and genres while still feeling like a cohesive whole is truly masterful. Itâs a layered character drama, a tragic crime thriller, a farcical comedy, an understated action series, a surrealist morality play, and a scathing satire of Hollywood, all in one. Even within the criminal underworld subplots the show ranges in tone from Breaking Bad to Paddington 2. And it works! While the show naturally gets bleaker over time as it confronts the repercussions of Barryâs murders, it never completely loses sight of its comedic roots. My favorite episode was easily season 2âs âronny/lily,â a mostly self-contained episode that somehow manages to keep throwing the perfect curveballs to escalate its dark comedy.
6/12: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition) - Yâall heard of this movie? Pretty good, it turns out. (Iâd seen the theatrical cut before, but this was my first time watching the extended edition. Iâve also only seen parts of the other two movies, so itâs time I finally watch all the extended cuts. The Gollum game pushed me to this.)
6/13: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Extended Edition) - give it to us RAW and WRIGGLING
6/17: The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (Extended Edition) - Iâm not crying YOUâRE crying
6/22: Clone High (Season 2) - While the first episode being about âcancel cultureâ (or, more accurately, a teenager from 2003 being transported to 2023 and putting his foot in his mouth a lot) put a lot of people off, I ended up enjoying the new season of Clone High. The new clones grew on me as the season went on and their roles in the web of teen romance melodrama crystalized, and it made me laugh a lot, and Cleo/Frida is galaxy brained. Also they played one of my favorite Antarctigo Vespucci songs like a minute into the first episode. I donât think I could really ask for much more.
6/28: The Mandalorian (Season 3) - I'd been watching this weekly but put off the last episode for no real reason. Responses to this season have been all over the place, but my blistering hot take is⊠it was fine. Is it as good as the first season? Probably not. But Mando no longer needs to carry the whole franchise on its shoulders and set the bar for how good the live action Disney Star Wars shows can be, because Andor exists, and itâs never gonna top Andor. The Mandalorian is free to just be a pulpy space adventure show where Giancarlo Esposito plays a scenery-chewing cartoon villain and a little puppet does wire stunts. These are things Andor cannot and should not do, but thatâs Star Wars, baby. Itâs delightful. I could watch Grogu get underhand tossed like a sack of flour all day.
July

7/2: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (Season 2) - LOVE WINS. (More nuanced take from way later: It definitely feels like a lot of the more messy political conflicts in this show got swept aside by the big final battle where some more easily resolved family conflicts take center stage. Iâm not sure the ending is the most satisfying. But also this show only got half the episode count that damn near every other Gundam show ever made got, so that might be a factor here. Idk. Still one of my favorite Gundams.)
7/4: Final Fantasy XVI (watched Anthony play) - I had to write my longest Medium article ever about this one because I was so frustrated
7/10: Home Movies - âThings I like that Iâve never seen in fullâ has certainly been a recurring theme this year. Home Movies remains an all-time classic of animated comedy that went out on a high note before things got stale or the characters became parodies of themselves. While itâs mostly known for its funny improvised banter, throughout the last season you can really see the arc where Brendon no longer enjoys making movies, yet he feels obligated to keep using them to escape from the real world. In that light, the ending where the nature of their dysfunctional makeshift family is cemented, Brendonâs camera suddenly breaks, and life moves on really does feel like the perfect note to end on. Truly one of the best to ever do it.
7/15: The Legend of Zelda - Tears of the Kingdom - Wow. Just⊠wow. I had serious doubts about TotK in the months leading up to release due to how close Nintendo was playing their cards to their chest. I didnât want this to be a Saints Row IV, where the game is fun enough but the recycled map makes it feel like a rehash. Instead, I found a game that made me look at BotWâs map in a whole new light, brimming with so many more things to do and people to meet. Add on a better, more versatile set of tools, more varied dungeons and bosses, and a story that I felt was told somewhat better and weâve got a real contender for my new favorite Zelda game. It was hard to tear myself away, but as this list shows, itâs been basically the only game Iâve played since it came out.
7/16: Sonic Prime (Season 2) - I liked the parts with Shadow and Chaos Sonic, but Iâve come to the sad conclusion that most of this show is just mediocre. More thoughts here.
7/18: We â„ Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie - âIâm a dog, but I love Katamari Damacy.â Truer words have never been spoken.
7/19: Transformers: Rise of the Beasts - Pretty good! It didnât blow me away, but after how bad the Bay movies got Iâm just thankful to have a decently cohesive Transformers movie where the human story is okay and I like the bots (although half of them needed more screen time), even if it is just another Hollywood blockbuster about two sides fighting over a macguffin that devolves into a big CGI battle against an army of nameless monsters in the third act. This is basically a mid-tier MCU movie but with Transformers, which wonât do much for most people, but again: the bar was underground.
7/22: The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart - God DAMN. A phenomenal ending for the series. While I would have loved to see a full final season to get some more one-off episodes in there, this doesnât feel creatively compromised in any wayâeither due to the time constraints, or due to a desire to make it more marketable as a movie. It really does feel like they just took their outlines for the canceled final season and gently massaged them into the shape of an 84-minute movie, and I mean that in the best possible way. Itâs completely on par with the previous seasons. A hilarious and fitting sendoff for one of the greats of adult animation.
7/23: Beautiful Katamari - This was one of my first Xbox 360 games, but a frustrating temperature-based level made me put it down for 16 years. âMaybe it wonât be as bad now that Iâve beaten the first two games and am better at Katamari,â I thought. Nope! Still an absolutely dogshit level. But also, turns out the whole game is only like two hours long lmao. Itâs still Katamari, so itâs still fun - the final level in particular, which seamlessly takes you from ground level all the way to space, feels like a logical endpoint for the series - but beyond that it just doesn't have the same soul without Keita Takahashi's input.
August

8/4: Doom Singer (Chris Farren) - Iâve been waiting so long for Chris and Jeff to do another Antarctigo Vespucci album, but god damn. This is the best of Chrisâs solo work, and a contender for his best record, period. Every trackâs a banger, with more energy than some of his previous solo work but also a good deal of variety. Favorite tracks: First Place, Cosmic Leash
8/4: Transformers Earthspark (Season 1) - This show had a bit of an uneven start, unsure if it wanted to have the emotional maturity of a more serious action cartoon or a preschool cartoon where the characters have little kid mood swings and outbursts and learn basic lessons. It also felt like it was speedrunning its Wholesome Found Family Dynamic with characters who just met, which didnât feel earned. While these problems never completely go away (see: the cheap and corny way the otherwise very dark season finale suddenly resolves), the show improves quickly, and the positives outweigh the negatives. Itâs so great to have a Transformers cartoon that feels fresh, giving us a post-war setting with a bunch of new characters and new dynamics between the Cybertronians and the humans. The returning characters are also uniformly great as the old veterans overseeing the new generation. (Reformed Megatron! Danny Pudi as Bumblebee! Steve Blum returning as Starscream! Keith David as Grimlock!!!) And those super dynamic action scenes! I can nitpick, but Earthsparkâs a ton of fun, and easily the best new Transformers cartoon since Prime and Animated.
8/5: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (remaster) - Everyone who told me this game was a masterpiece was right. I had played the first chapter when it dropped as the demo for the iOS version years ago, but never went further than that until now. What a game. Absolutely incredible through and through. Great story, great twists, great characters, great puzzles, great art direction. Everything comes together so perfectly to form a totally unique, unforgettable package, a top tier video game murder mystery. Everyone should play this, preferably going in as blind as possible.
8/15: Itâs Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Season 16) - Wow! Recent seasons of Sunny have been kind of up and down, with some interesting experiments (Mac Finds His Pride, the Ireland arc, etc.) paired with some comedic duds. Most of this latest season is standard fare for the series with fewer big creative swings, but itâs just hit after hit in terms of comedy. Not a single dud, whether weâre seeing Mac and Dennis try to start a rental business for inflatable furniture or watching the gang meet Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, believing the entire time that the latter is Malcolm from Malcolm in the Middle. Even the attempts at topical comedy landed better. Easily the funniest season in years.
8/16: One Piece Film Gold - Itâs easy to see why this one has kind of been forgotten in the wake of Stampede and Film Red, which revolve around established fan favorite characters, but this was still pretty fun. Perhaps a little too long, but itâs fun to see the Straw Hats fool around in a giant casino and do a heist. They definitely cranked the fanservice up even more than usual in this one, though, as I probably should have expected for a movie made alongside the animeâs adaptation of Dressrosa.
8/17: One Piece: Stampede - This one goes for a different kind of fanservice. While most One Piece movies are isolated from the ongoing plot and its expanded cast of characters, Stampede instead asks âWhat if we just put damn near every active character on the same island and had them fight?â The answer: a fun time! It would get old if all of the movies were like this, but after a bunch of movies that are just like âthe Straw Hats are gonna land on another new island and fight some more weird guysâ itâs fun to see characters like Law and Buggy and Smoker get in on the fun. Itâs also nice to get a movie with the Wano era art style, and Usopp surprisingly gets some really good character moments in here.
8/18: One Piece Film Red - This really is the best of the One Piece movies, huh? (Baron Omatsuri is a close second.) It really feels like a change of pace after the last four with the most interesting and emotionally engaging story out of any of them. And even if the events of these movies are never canon, it still feels significant in my understanding of Shanks as a character as we move into the final phase of the manga.
8/21: Pikmin 4 - The opening hour of the game made me really question if theyâd changed too much, with all the focus on your new dog unit over your Pikmin and the extremely dull, drawn out dialogue scenes with your new companions back at the base. But once I got into the swing of things I had a blast. This is probably my new favorite Pikmin game. Thereâs a great mix of activities here to keep things fresh. I also really ended up liking Oatchiâs role as basically your second captain who can also serve as your tank or a rideable mount. The Dandori stuff and nighttime missions in particular show off how useful Oatchi is for your multitasking without necessarily overshadowing the Pikmin.
8/22: Never Get Tired: The Bomb the Music Industry! Story - I literally backed this on Kickstarter eight years ago (my name is in the credits!) and then never got around to watching it for no reason. Itâs on YouTube now, and Jeffâs got a new album out next week, so now feels like the perfect time to watch it. And man⊠what a great documentary. Obviously Iâm just a fan of the band, but this also really spoke to me as an artist. Jeff wanting to stick to his principles and give out his music for free and play cheap all ages shows, his discomfort over the idea of selling merch, and the struggles that come with not playing the game like that⊠It's hard. They readily admit that Jeff is an idealist, that people fight him on this stuff, that heâs missed out on some big opportunities because of these stances, and that heâs had to compromise a bit on some of these things over time. But that incredible climax with their final show, including a full opening performance of the slowly building âCampaign for a Better Next Weekendâ and the closing performance of âFuture 86â where the whole audience is singing along as the members of the band are hugging and crying⊠itâs beautiful. This may have been a band where the members had to go back to their shitty day jobs after every tour because they werenât selling out arenas, but their art meant something to people, and that makes it all worth it.
8/25: Nimona - I havenât read the original comic (yet), so I canât compare them too much, but itâs nonetheless pretty apparent that some things were softened and easy kidsâ movie jokes were added by the studio to squeeze this graphic novel for teens into a PG animated movie. Regardless, the emotional throughline hits REALLY hard, particularly the very blatant trans allegory and the climax. (Itâs no wonder Disney was afraid of this movie seeing the light of day lmao.) The animation is also very squishy and fun to watch throughout. Great movie.
8/26: Puss in Boots: The Last Wish - Spider-Verse really has done so much for animation, huh? This one was as good as everyone said. Beautiful use of stylized color and lighting throughout, and every time this movie very conspicuously shifted to different framerates for a flashy fight scene it owned. Very cute and heartwarming story, too, which thankfully gave its second act plenty of time to explore the cast and let them go on their journey, unlike a certain plumber movie that came out a few months later. Also I would let Death [redacted]
8/28: Holocure: Save the Fans! - This isn't really something I can beat, but I've been addicted to Holocure lately. I don't even watch VTubers aside from maybe seeing a funny Korone animation every now and then, this is just a really, really good freeware Vampire Survivors clone with a huge roster of varied characters to pick from.
8/31: HELLMODE (Jeff Rosenstock) - A new album from Jeff is always a major event for me. If there were any worries that he was starting to go soft at 40 (because one of the three singles off this album was a gentle acoustic piece), the frantic opening of this album put those worries to rest. The first two tracks are Jeff screaming out for help as heâs pulled in a million directions by the chaotic state of the world, a theme that becomes the thesis of the album. Iâd say it lags slightly in the middle, but overall this is another extremely well-rounded record full of bangers thatâs unapologetically Jeff, with possibly my favorite closing track heâs ever done. Favorite tracks: I WANNA BE WRONG, 3 SUMMERS
September

9/3: One Piece (live action, Season 1) - They did it. I canât believe it, but they did it. While I have my nitpicks (Usopp and Sanji donât get enough big moments to shine), this is an extremely solid and faithful adaptation of the first few arcs of One Piece with a great cast. For the most part the changes feel smart and logical, and the big emotional beats of the story are all there and executed very well. I doubted it a little in episodes 2-4, where the Orange Town and Syrup Village arcs saw some major changes to shift the action indoors, and the increased focus on the drama in favor of repeating every gag and battle from the manga 1:1 took a bit of getting used to, but by the end I was having a blast. Itâs a different take on One Piece, but it still feels like One Piece. Genuinely very excited for season 2.
9/4: Pseudoregalia - A great little N64-style 3D Metroidvania focused on platforming and very satisfying movement. I always love entries in the genre that are less prescriptive in what order you have to tackle areas in, a la Symphony of the Night or Hollow Knight, and this oneâs great in that regard. While there are a number of new moves to find, most of the map is open to you very early in the game, and smart use of your moveset can allow you to âsequence breakâ without even realizing it. (You would not believe how long I went without getting the wall run.) I do wish it had a map, but thatâs already being patched in.
9/6: Bomb Rush Cyberfunk * - Not a bad game at all, but I quickly remembered how bad I am at skating games, so like⊠eh? Not sure I have much desire to play past chapter 2. Also the soundtrack is sadly kinda hit or miss for me outside of the obvious Naganuma tunes.
9/9: The History of the Minnesota Vikings (Dorktown) - Jon Bois never misses. Even as someone who doesnât actively follow sports, Jon Bois is a master storyteller, using graphs and statistics and funny anecdotes to explore these deeply human stories. He can convey why people care so much about these teams, these people, and sports in general, and how our popular sports reflect on American culture. He could tell the story of just about any team or player in any sport and I just know Iâll come out the other side a misty-eyed fan. And what a fascinating cast of characters we have this time, with origin stories for everything from the Hail Mary pass to a Minnesota state supreme court judge to the Griddy. Nine hours well spent.
9/10: Timespinner - A fun and highly polished Metroidvania that maybe doesnât quite have enough of its own identity in its quest to replicate Symphony of the NightâŠbut also, like, this was pitched as a Symphony throwback on KickStarter in a pre-Bloodstained, pre-Hollow Knight world, so I canât really blame âem! Stopping time to avoid boss attacks is fun, the pixel art is gorgeous, and I liked the dark science fantasy story about warring empires and meddling with time a lot more than I thought I would - lore journal text dumps and all.
9/14: The Decay of Sam & Cat (Quinton Reviews) - All the stuff at the end with Matt Bennett (the actor who played Robbie on Victorious and Sam & Cat) in this was really good and sweet. Itâs that kind of thing that makes these videos feel like theyâre still worthwhile on some level. But the padding and the things Quinton chooses to spend the colossal runtime on does drive me more and more insane with each passing Nick sitcom video. I donât know how much longer he can keep this schtick up. I hope heâs able to move on to other things before too terribly long instead of continuing to extend this âminiseries.â
9/19: Marvelâs Spider-Man: Miles Morales - AKA Insomniacâs Marvelâs Spider-Man 1.5. Itâs fun for the same reasons Peterâs first game was fun. I had a good time swinging around New York again in preparation for the sequel, and thereâs a lot of cute stuff with Miles becoming Harlemâs neighborhood hero, but WOW did the Underground v. Roxxon conflict fall flat for me.
9/20: I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson - I understand so many posts now.
9/25: Spider-Man (2002) (rewatch) - Itâs you whoâs out, Gobby! OUT OF YOUR MIND!
9/25: Futurama (Season 8) - I was ready to be a hater, recalling the fact that Futurama has already had three âperfect endingsâ with the show getting a little weaker with every revival. Then I watched the first new episode on a whim and thought it wasnât bad, so I was like, eh, sure, Iâll watch the rest. Overall Hulurama is hit or miss. There are chuckles to be had, and it sure as hell beats modern Simpsons, but almost every episode is either a belated take on an overplayed Topical Issue (the pandemic, Amazon, cancel culture, etc.) or a direct sequel to an old episode people liked. Or both! Itâs also really noticeable that certain voice actors sound way older - Billy West is struggling with the Fry voice in particular, and it hurts his comedic timing. But just when all hope seemed lost after the nigh-incomprehensible toy-themed anthology episode, possibly the worst episode of the entire series⊠the last episode, where the Planet Express crew explores whether or not the universe could be a simulation, was really, really solid. Great note to end on to make me not regret my time with this season as a whole.
9/26: Spider-Man 2 (2004) (rewatch) - Once the GOAT, always the GOAT.
9/27: Spider-Man 3 (rewatch) - Revisiting this movie for the first time since I saw it in theaters⊠itâs not bad. Itâs fine! It continues to have the heart and sincerity that make the first two movies work. Itâs just not as concise with three villains vying for the spotlight, but I also wouldnât cut any of them, necessarily. I guess Eddie/Venom would be the easiest, but Peter getting the black suit and giving in to his resentment feels too central to cut. (Yes, even with Emo Peter becoming a meme.)
9/28: Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake - I wasnât really sure what to expect with this one, especially since I was never really a fan of the genderbend episodes in the original show. (At the time they mostly just felt like an excuse to crank up the teen romance stuff to 11.) But MAN. This was a fantastic coda to the original series. It made me care about Fionna and Cake and their friends as their own characters separate from their original counterparts, it gave the Simon/Betty arc a much more satisfying (if no less bittersweet) resolution than the original finale had time to do, and it even managed to be a multiverse story that didnât make me roll my eyes in 2023. A+ all around. Makes me wanna rewatch the original show again. [spoiler: I did]
9/29: Meanwhile (aivi & surasshu) - Itâs been a whole decadeâthey were busy with, you know, all the music in Steven Universe, among other thingsâbut we finally have a new aivi & surasshu album! Their chiptune/piano fusion style is familiar, but theyâve definitely grown as composers in subtle ways. Favorite track: Time Travel
October
10/1: This is Financial Advice (Folding Ideas) - A lot of the nitty gritty finance law stuff turned into white noise for me, but still, great video. I had no idea that the GameStop stock craze devolved into this bizarre cult that thinks theyâre going to crash the global economy and rise from the ashes as the new kings with the value of their GME stocks. Glad this video exists to try and balance out the narrative.
10/5: Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon DLC - Good ideas, absurdly frustrating and tedious execution. Full thoughts here.
10/10: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (rewatch) - I didnât plan this, but very fitting that I would end up rewatching this on 10/10.
10/12: Half-Life Alyx but the Gnome is Self-Aware (wayneradiotv) - ha he! (Seriously though, that finale was a fucking masterpiece. The RTVS crew has an incredible knack for using the framing device of video game livestreams to blur the lines between comedy and horror, or ironic anti-humor and complete sincerity. Iâve never seen anything else like this.)
10/15: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse - Not sure how much I can say that hasnât already been said. The most visually creative movie Iâve ever seen, grounded by some really excellent storytelling about Miles (and now Gwen) thatâs probably better than his actual comics. But it also does feel like itâs about to end and then the movie just keeps going like ten times over lmao. Canât wait to watch this a second time on a better TV.
10/20: Sonic Superstars - A mostly really solid and fun 2D Sonic game thatâs unfortunately dragged down by an extremely hodgepodge soundtrack and some overly drawn out boss fights. I spent HOURS trying to beat the final boss of the bonus scenario (which is required for the true ending in this one) before giving up. Really a shame that thatâs the note Iâm leaving the game on, because I otherwise enjoyed it, but ah well. More thoughts here.
10/27: Marvelâs Spider-Man 2 - Another good Spider-Man game from Insomniac. Liked the story more than the one in Miles Morales, but maybe not as much as the first game. Extensive thoughts here.
10/28: Venom - Was in the mood for more Venom after the game. As expected this was not a very good movie, but the dynamic between Eddie and Venom made it a fun watch. Tom Hardy is constantly about to shit his pants in this movie. Itâs great.
10/28: Venom: Let There Be Carnage - I had a way better time with this one. Is this a good movie? No. But it cranks the insanity of the first movie up to 11. Goofy as fuck in an extremely watchable way.
November

11/5: Pluto - An absolutely masterful series that anyone interested in sci-fi needs to watch. The anime adaptation was great, and I immediately understand why people whoâve read the manga speak so highly of it. Really makes me want to get into Astro Boy more, and also read some of Urasawaâs other works.
11/18: Scott Pilgrim Takes Off - Wow, just wow. When news of a Scott Pilgrim anime broke I was cautiously curious to see if weâd get a more direct adaptation of the comics, and instead it veered off in the exact opposite direction in the best way possible. This is almost entirely a different story, one thatâs in conversation with the previous versions (sometimes in very meta ways), and I think itâs really valuable to see OâMalley revisiting these characters with new things to say about them. The major story divergence gives us a chance to examine the characters from a new angle - particularly Ramona, whoâs the real protagonist of this version, and the evil exes, who completely steal the show. This was a great reminder of why I fell in love with this series as a teenager. I now genuinely hope we get more Scott Pilgrim.
11/22: Void Rivals (Issues #1 - #6) - The first arc of the new Robert Kirkman series that kicked off Skyboundâs new âEnergon Universeâ is now complete, and Iâm left thinking Void Rivals is⊠okay? I thought the first issue was a decent (if not particularly original) sci-fi comic with an appealing art style, which just so happens to also briefly have a Transformer in it so there can be a Big Surprise. And the series still hasnât quite shaken that feeling to me. Itâs an okay sci-fi series that arbitrarily dedicates a couple of pages of every issue to something from Transformers, but Iâm not really sure what the shared universe stuff adds to Void Rivals, or what Void Rivals adds to Transformers and GI Joe. I guess weâll have to wait and see.
11/22: Journey to EPCOT Center: A Symphonic History (Defunctland) - Yeah, gotta be honest, I only got halfway through this one. It seems like Kevin just 1) really wanted to push himself creatively and 2) make a love letter to Epcot, and while I respect that, I think it suffers as a historical documentary. Itâs Fantasia but for the creation of Epcot. That might be very impressive on a technical level, but it feels more like a piece of Disney propaganda than prior Defunctland videos due to a lack of context and nuance.Â
11/24: Aperture Desk Job - A short, sweet, and funny little tech demo for my new Steam Deck set in the Portal universe. More effort was definitely put into this than was strictly necessary.
11/26: ESCHATOS - I am not good at bullet hell games, but I enjoy them from time to time and I really love this oneâs FM synth soundtrack, so I picked it up on a whim in the Steam sale. I only beat it on Easy, but still, I had a lot of fun with it! Itâs straightforward but very flashy, with the camera dynamically zooming around from set piece to set piece at ridiculous speeds and each level segueing directly into the next. The lack of a powerup system on the main mode in favor of just needing to know when to use your different shot types makes it feel very approachable.
11/27: Lunistice - A great little 3D platformer with a good soundtrack that I had fun hunting down all the secrets in. This is an easy recommendation for fans of games like Kirby or Klonoa - whimsical games set in colorful dream worlds where the underlying story can get a bit more somber. (Although the story in this one is mostly told through mildly cryptic lore dumps, so your mileage there may vary.)
11/28: Spark the Electric Jester 2 - The leap from 2D to 3D here is impressive, but this is very clearly a rough draft for Spark 3. Very, very fun Sonic-style 3D platforming, but the combat is lacking and the storytelling is just kinda bad. More extensive thoughts on this and the above two games here.
December

12/2: Fortnite (Chapter 4) - This was my first full chapter of Fortnite, after having been roped into the game by the siren songs of Zero Build mode and Goku during Chapter 3. This means itâs harder for me to compare this chapter to previous ones, but still, Fortnite remains a genuinely very well made Battle Royale shooter thatâs a blast with friends. If I have any complaint about this Chapter, itâs that they would regularly introduce zany ideas and then slowly reel them back in, whether it was the Augment system or the increasingly mundane movement items. It also felt like it was a little too easy to get the perfect loadout in every match, meaning the final showdown would almost always be against players with Slurp Juice and gold shotguns. And I missed the smaller mid-season map updates of Chapter 3. But overall I still had a really good time, and look forward to playing more for the foreseeable future.
12/4: Plagiarism and You(Tube) (HBomberguy) - This will get written off by many as âYouTuber drama,â but this really is an excellent video essay that feels like the kick in the pants that YouTube needs. If video essayists are gonna be a major source of information for so many, then they gotta have standards. I also think it does a good job of highlighting the people that have been plagiarized and trying to drive more attention their way in an attempt to right those wrongs.
12/6: Transformers (Skybound comic) - We only got the first three issues of this in 2023, but I just HAVE to say something about how incredible this series is here. Daniel Warren Johnson is knocking it out of the park. This is the new bar for Transformers. The hand-inked art is extremely dynamic and full of character, and the story is using the familiar beats of G1 Transformers but doing very new things with them. You can tell this from the very first page, but the emotional scene of Optimus accidentally crushing a deer in the forest and realizing how fragile life is on Earth sealed the deal for me. And yet in the very same comics Optimus can do suplexes and clotheslines and lord knows how many other wrestling moves on Decepticons, and it doesnât feel like tonal whiplash? These comics just fucking rule, and anyone with even the slightest interest in Transformers should be reading them.
12/8: What We Do in the Shadows (Season 5) - [spoilers] WWDITS has very much settled into being a status quo show. Every season has its own little arc where one or two things change to keep things interesting, but then everything returns to normal by the end. Guillermo finally becoming a vampire, only to become a human again in the end, might just be the most egregious example of this yet. But also⊠the showâs still really funny? And I continue to be happy that Kristen Schaal has stuck around as a series regular as the Guide. So itâs hard to complain. I could see the show running out of steam over the next few seasons, but itâs still hitting for me right now.
12/12: Pony Island - Finally got around to this since the trailer for the sequel dropped. I feel like playing this years later in a post-Inscryption world where Pony Island is a known quantity kind of lessens its impact, but still, itâs a fun and funny puzzle game where you try to hack your way out of a possessed arcade machine. Iâm not sure I found it particularly scary, but Iâm not sure itâs supposed to be? The way the game messes with you during the Asmodeus âboss fightâ was probably the highlight for me. I also like being able to say things like âThe part where you have to not kill Jesus was so hard. I kept getting terrible butterfly patterns.â
12/16: Breaking Bad VR but the AI is Self-Aware (wayneradiotv) - As always, Wayne and co.âs commitment to the bit is unrivaled. This kind of got interpreted as just a way to troll HLVRAI fans, but so many moments in this genuinely made me laugh out loud.
12/18: Soul of Sovereignty Prelude - As someone who would list Cucumber Quest as a big creative influence, I was naturally very excited for this first chapter of GGDGâs new visual novel. Their mentality of both scaling things back in terms of labor while also going more shamelessly self-indulgent in terms of storytelling after burning out on making webcomics has really spoken to me, and WOW, the end result of that new process of theirs is shaping up to be something really special. The art and music are sparse but extremely evocative, giving you the rough sketch of the world and letting your mind fill in the rest. The story blends literary high fantasy vibes with the style of fantasy seen in â90s JRPGs (you can definitely tell this came from an idea for an RPG), but rather than constantly winking at the audience and making self-aware video game references it plays these storytelling ideas extremely sincerely, giving them real dramatic weight while still indulging in fun tropes to their fullest extent. While itâs a far cry from their most famous work with much more mature content, GGDG always excels at creating characters and worlds that immediately grab me. I canât wait for the rest.
12/18: Barbie - Iâm only⊠what, five months late for the whole Barbenheimer thing? Perfect timing. Anyway! On the one hand, I get the critiques saying that this movie is just a major corporation funding a self-aware feminist critique of their own product as a marketing ploy. And I kinda agree with that. And the movie is a little too long, and I donât really know what to think of the way the Barbie/Ken conflict plays out. Anthony asked me to summarize what the story ended up being about, and I had no idea what to even say. But also⊠I did still like the movie? We donât get a lot of cartoonish, absurdist, fourth wall breaking comedies like this anymore, and this is a good one of those. Also the whole cast is great, the set design is kind of stunning, and the cinematography is consistently appealing. I wouldnât say itâs a revolutionary work of feminist filmmaking by any stretch, but itâs a good comedy movie.
12/21: Dr. Stone: New World - Man, Dr. Stone is great. Iâve said this many times, but I just love that this series uses all the trappings of shounen that would normally be used to hype up the protagonist learning a new move to instead hype up things like the protagonist building a loom or a hot air balloon. Itâs shounen Bill Nye. I didnât completely love everything about the Treasure Island arc this season, but it all built towards a really fun climax with a lot of satisfying turnabouts where the heroes use their ingenuity to just barely win.
12/23: The History of Mike Tysonâs Punch-Out World Records (Summoning Salt) - Truly one of my favorite Summoning Salt videos ever, even with how repetitive Punch-Out can get to watch. Itâs just so hard to beat âand that runner⊠was me.â
12/24: Super Mario Bros. Wonder - What more can be said that hasnât already been said? Itâs the best and most creative 2D Mario game since the â90s. The only real flaws are that itâs a little easy, the Search Party stages are annoying in singleplayer, and I wish that every boss prior to the final boss wasnât just some form of Bowser Jr. fight. But those arenât nearly enough to drag the whole experience down. It was a blast.
12/24: Do a Powerbomb! - Got this from Anthony as a birthday present. This is the previous series by the creative team currently doing the new Transformers comics I was gushing about a few entries ago. Even with the high bar set by those comics, Do a Powerbomb! exceeded my expectations. Holy shit. An absolutely entrancing fantasy wrestling miniseries full of dynamic, energetic action and tons of heart. These comics where a guy wrestles a giant talking orangutan almost made me cry. Twice. An instant favorite.
12/25: Adventure Time (rewatch) - We ended up finishing our rewatch of Adventure Time (the main series, anyway) on my 30th birthday, which feels appropriate. I already kinda knew this, but this rewatch has truly confirmed that Adventure Time is my favorite TV series of all time. The entire show is even better on a full series rewatch. In hindsight, even parts that annoyed me when they aired end up being important parts of the beautiful tapestry that is this series. The many low points of Finnâs adolescent love life are important stepping stones in his growth as a person, which leaves him in an extremely satisfying place by the end. Jake having kids didnât get to be a huge status quo change because they grew up instantly, but then they did a bunch of fun episodes about Jakeâs relationships with his adult children that deepened him as a character. And most of the big lore questions they kept teasing over the years (âWhereâd the humans go?â âWho are Finnâs parents?â âWhenâs Finn gonna get a robot arm?â etc.) ended up getting satisfying and creative answers, because the show left itself the room to figure those things out later. This is a truly special, one-of-a-kind series, one that lasted nearly 300 episodes and yet still seems like it was over too soon. And yes, I did in fact cry during the final montage, like I knew I would. I will always cherish this show with all of my heart.
12/25: Olive the Other Reindeer (rewatch) - Havenât seen this one since I was a kid! It was a favorite of mine back then, and while it might not be quite as funny as I remember itâs still very cute, with a 2D/3D hybrid art style that remains very unique and appealing. As an adult I can also appreciate the cast they got for this, with like half the cast of Futurama bolstered by guests like Michael Stipe from REM and The Sopranosâ Joe Pantoliano.
12/26: Guillermo Del Toroâs Pinocchio - Anthony and I capped off our Christmas with the most jolly and festive stop motion movie of all! Jokes aside, man, what a beautiful movie. The animation is immaculate, and we really just donât get childrenâs animated films like this anymore. Ones that overtly feature real world politics and religion and so many other dark themes in a way that doesnât talk down to kids or sugarcoat things. This one hits hard. We need more movies like this.
12/31: Oppenheimer - This was an interesting one. Despite being three hours, the way that first hour jumps around in time makes it feel like Oppenheimer is constantly being propelled forward through life at a breakneck pace, swept up by the rising tide of nationalism in spite of his personal left wing politics, never really reflecting on what heâs doing until itâs too late. Then when heâs no longer useful to the empire, heâs chewed up and spat out, only to eventually be honored as a national hero as a symbolic gesture. Itâs a compelling story. However, Iâm a little torn on how certain aspects of history were framed. Does the abstraction of the bombings detract from the true weight of those events, in favor of sympathizing with the man who built the bomb? Or is it clever a way to show how the realities of the war were compartmentalized away by people who were complicit in its most heinous acts of violence? One minute a bunch of physicists are talking theory, thousands of miles away from the theaters of war, and the next theyâve killed 200,000 people. So which is it? Eh, probably somewhere in the middle, I guess. But I liked it overall.
12/31: Kirbyâs Return to Dream Land Deluxe - Iâve been really surprised by how good this rerelease is. It kind of flew under the radar for me. I liked the original game, but at the time it also almost felt like the New Super Mario Bros. of Kirby. It was a straightforward throwback game where you went through a grass world, then a desert world, then a water world, etc., and also they added four player co-op. But returning to this one after the kinda mid Star Allies has made me appreciate just how solid RtDL is as a Kirby game. I really like the updated graphics, too - yes, even the new cel shaded outlines around the characters - even though I didnât think it looked that great in screenshots. Also the two new copy abilities (Sand and Mecha) are fun, the minigame collection is shockingly fleshed out to the point that they couldâve sold it as a standalone eShop game, the collectible character masks are fun, and the new epilogue mode where you play as Magolor is one of the coolest bonus modes theyâve ever done. This is a top tier Kirby remake any fan of the series should check out.

ok now you got us hooked so you have to give us more ranvika throuple pleasee đđ
EEEEEK okay!!!
check out this little blurb i wrote for this throuple back in january too!
men and minors dni
i think ran gives sevika a run for her money when it comes to stubbornness and competitiveness. and while both of your partners like to think they are the one who wears the pants in your throuple, everybody knows it's really you.
ran and sevika like to walk with you between them, each of their flesh hands wrapped around one of yours. they don't doubt your ability to protect yourself, but you're the only one out of the three of you that doesn't have a prosthetic-weapon.
when you're sleeping, though, it's a little different. you and ran are both back-sleepers, usually you fall asleep holding hands between the two of you. so when sevika the front-sleeper joins your relationship, she chooses to sleep on top of both of you, in the little crook where your bodies meet, crushing your joint hands under her stomach. it's heaven.
at work, sevika tries her best to not let her favoritism for you and ran to show. but... neither of you make it easy for her.
she doesn't even have to tell anyone-- the sudden shift in her attitude to you and ran is all silco and the crew need to witness to know that sevika's with you two now.
ran loves to give sevika sex-eyes while she's handing out assignments, standing in the back of the room with you by their side and slowly licking their lips, dragging their eyes up and down her body. nobody else can tell, but both of you know her well enough to see the slight blush that blooms on her cheeks each time she looks over at the two of you.
you start including sevika in the little game you usually play with ran at work: flashing her across the bar or warehouse when you're working and nobody's looking.
the first time you do, it goes something like this.
"babe, watch this." you mumble, nudging ran by your side. they raise their eyebrow as you pull your arms into your shirt and shuffle for a minute, before pushing them back through your sleeves, your bra in your hand. "hold this for me?" you request. ran cackles, then tucks your bra in their back pocket.
"gladly." they giggle, pressing a kiss to your head.
you both dart your eyes around the shimmer-warehouse. silco's here on a meeting, sevika's guarding the door he's locked in, and you and ran are here as secondary security, walking and scanning the perimiter of the warehouse while you wait for silco to finish. at least, that's what sevika told silco. he shot her the most disbeliving look you've ever seen when she said it, though, so you think he knows what that really means. sevika just wanted to spend time with her partners.
the warehouse is empty besides the three of you. ran can't stop giggling in giddy anticipation. you whistle to get sevika's attention from across the warehouse, and she lifts her eyes up from where she was studying the stained glass beside her to smile at the two of you.
you chuckle and lift your shirt up, shimmying a bit as ran cackles beside you, before pulling your shirt back down over your tits and blowing sevika a kiss.
her jaw is on the floor. ran is laughing so hard they're holding their side.
"oh, fuck, is that what i looked like the first time you did that to me?" ran asks.
"no babe, you were much more suave." you laugh.
sevika ends up fucking you both until neither of you can walk that night.

Chicago's Kindest | Blurb #02 - Good.
logline; sometimes you just need to hear someone else say it.
[!!!] series history; not a new chapter!! but like, it's fun, and it's better than the nothing you've been getting, eh?
portion; 2k, just over.
pairing; A platonic Rich & Chip fic, for the boys
tasting notes; a pepper of hurt? a bunch of comfort? I'd describe it as fluff, I think.
possible allergies; this blurb is AFTER the next chapter coming out whenever it comes out (Chapter 16). So. Get into that grindset man. there's a fun thing in this hinting at a fun thing to come !! so!! have fun!! You should definitely read the other chapters in the series before this!!
Not a new chapter baby I'm sorry! But I was noodling around this idea, and I think perhaps you may like it. Should blurbs go on the masterlist? Idk.

When you finally tell Richie he's a good dad, it's when both of you least expect it. Mostly because you weren't trying to tell him at all that day.Â
It's January. About a week before the Taylor Swift concert. About a week into back to back to back reservations. Richieâs been burning the candle at both endsâ He always gets tipped well, so it's not like it's not worth it. He's fucking Richie. He's the go to. He's good with people. ...Right?
Richie might care too much, might write himself in the schedule too much, might cover for wait staff at a moment's notice too much, might do research on guests in his off hours too much, might push himself to be present at every waking moment too much.
He wishes Carmen noticed, he's certain Carmen doesn't.Â
He's taking two personal days for the concert. How dare he? He wouldn't do it under normal circumstances, but his sweets takes priority.Â
Carmen, his Highness, will certainly notice time-off before anything else. Fucker.
To make up for it, Richie's working a double shift today. And he's made a ten-page pamphlet on all the reservations and details of the guests that'll be coming in while he's gone. He's good. He's Richie. He's a really good manager, a stellar host, fantastic with people.Â
Is he a good dad?Â
Probably not. Because he scheduled his make-up hours and didn't think to double check his custody hours. Deadbeat. God, fuck you, Carmen.Â
It wasn't entirely his fault. Tif asked if he'd want the extra weekend since something about wedding planning came up. And he did, he always does. More time with Eva is good time with Eva.
And usually he's very good at plugging that into his calendar but he got the call at a very busy time on his shift and he just said yes before actually putting it in and then forgotâ Who remembers anything that happens in a phone call? She shouldâve sent him a summary emailâit got away from him, suffice to say. Then Tif texted asking âHey, when are you coming to pick her up?â and then suddenly he's the bad guy? Deadbeat. Bad dad. Richie Bad News. Fucked accent. Fuck you, David. Fuck executive chefs all together, just write them all off.Â
He called around asking any and everyone if they could take Eva off his hands for just a couple hours, but Richie hasnât really had many connections since his one connection kicked his bucket. The rest of his connections work the same hours as him, at the same fucked establishment as him.Â
Well, thatâs what he thought, until he complained about this to you over the phone, first thing in the morning, before heâs set to pick up Eva.Â
âI could take her.â The words are lovely and jumbled. He can hear you shovelling scrambled eggs into your mouth. âCould just make Lu cover bar, heâs been wanting to test drive alone anyways.â
Excuse Richie, but heâs always been one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Itâs a habit. âIsnât the whole point of test driving to have someone watching you?â He wishes he was eating eggs too, but again, candleâs on fire. Heâs choking down a Kashi bar and attempting to be happy about it.
âMeh.â Is all you reply. Meh. âHeâs a talented ass chef, he can handle making some fuckinâ cocktails without me over his shoulder.âÂ
Even still, heâs got to work out all the kinks. âCarmenâs gonna be pissed.â But you both know, while heâll have a less than stellar day without you, he will have a fucking awful day without Richie.Â
âHe will live.â Thereâs a moment of silence, as you finish chewing down your last few bites of breakfast. ââŠWould you please give me the gift of some long overdue Eva time, Rich?â
And when you put it like that, when you put it like heâs actually the one doing you the favour⊠Eva is dropped off at your place an hour before he has to clock in. Itâs a touch hurtful how excited she is to spend a couple hours with you instead of him.Â
âItâs the return of the champ!â But he gets it, as soon as they arrive, and youâre out front on your stoop ready to throw fake punches at Eva like a boxing coach. âThey said sheâd never be back in the ring folksââ And picking her up. âBut here she is, better than ever, ready to face any and every challenger! E-E-Eva!â
Easy for anyone to get excited at the idea of hanging out with you. He wishes he could join in for even a few minutes, but itâs not in the cardsâ Nor todayâs packed schedule. Rich promptly and tiredly runs over everything you need to know for the day, leaning against your doorway as Eva runs around in your apartment.Â
âFull of energy today, get ready to be ever so slightly annoyed because she will not stop playing the why game today.âÂ
âHm.â You hum, not the least bit annoyed by the idea. âI played that a lot too, I think. Itâs simply karma.â
Thereâs a sigh of a smile on Richieâs face. God he looks burnt out. You wonât prod, though your worried face does plenty on its own. âCan I make you a coffee or somethinâ before you head out, Rich?âÂ
âNo, no, itâs good.â Heâs quick to shake his head, straightening up off your door. âIâll get Copenhagen to make me somethinâ, test drive, yâknow?â
âAâright.â All you can do is shrug. âI will feed her the normal foods at the normal times, make her take her two naps, and we will be mostly screenless, if we can help it. But I think I fuck with Bluey more than she does, soâŠâ
âI owe you.âÂ
The reply is off the cuff, âNo you donât, just bring me back a dead plate or somethinâ.âÂ
Richie smiles and nods, but thereâs a hesitation to it. And whether you notice it, or he even notices it himself, heâs not sure. But as you close the door, you peek it open, noticing something. You surprise the man, when you suddenly reach out and lightly slap his neck. You scratch at scruff that isnât there, smiling.Â
He lined up his beard. Richie listens. Even when he doesnât want to.
âGood man.â
You close the door with a smile, like you didnât just blast open his brain. You know what to say even when Richie doesnât know what he wants to hear. And all he wants to hear is good. Good job. Everyone sees the work youâre putting in. Youâre valuable.Â

âWhat the fuckâ Richard, no surprisesââ âShut the fuck up, shut the fuck up, of course surprisesââ âItâs gonna make a messââ âIf Chip were here, you wouldnât have a problemââ âWell sheâs not here, isnât she? Sheâs at home taking care of your kidââ
âWâWoah-holy-shitââ Syd has to elbow her way between Carmen and Richieâ And a pinataâ To break up this fight. âWay too personal too fast, straighten it the fuck up, Chef.âÂ
She rubs her chest with her fist, and Carmen returns it, after a deep breath. A thousand yard stare towards no one, as he apologizesâ Well, he never really says it, but when he says, âMy fault. Iâm hot.â He means sorry.Â
âYou need⊠A second?â Sydney gestures over his general form. âWant to take your ten?â
âFive. Smoke break. Thank you, chef.â And heâs off. Double entendre. Heâs always off, when youâre off.Â
Syd turns back to Richie. She replaces you as union rep, when youâre off. She doesnât ask questions, she doesnât refuse Richie and his pinata, she doesnât say, âGood idea, Richie, Fantastic research on the couple at table sixteen, Good job finding out that they met at a chocolate museum in Brussels as teenagers on separate school trips. It was all worth it, and youâre so valuable.â
She just says, âIâm not cleaning it up.â
But no skin off his back, he shrugs. Itâs not meant to be a thankless job, but it is. âFair enough.â And he puts on his brightest smile, grabs a bottle of champagne off of your shelf, and puts on a fucking show.Â

When heâs finally finished, Richie does remember to grab you a dead plate. Well, more specifically, he grabbed a dead plate and then Carmy asked if it was for you, and when he said yes, the stupid loverboy fuck made him wait as he made youâ And only you, a star worthy dinner. Yuck.Â
He ate your original dead plate in the meanwhile. Richie texts you all this, sending terribly unflattering photos of Carmen during the whole cooking process. You laugh, over text, and tell him youâll leave the door unlocked for himâ Despite as bad an idea as he thinks that is, he just texts back a thumbs up.Â
And when he finishes the exhausting day finally, and drives over to your place, and opens your door with one hand, tupperware in the otherâ He grimaces, as he can overhear his wonderful daughter playing the extremely aggravating âWhy?â game, with you, in the kitchen.
He quietly closes the door, not wanting to cause too much of a commotion. Neither of you seem to hear him, so heâs able to listen in.Â
âWhy?â
âWhy what?â
âWhy canât I use the knife?â
Richie watches from the archway, just peeking slightly. Youâre cutting carrots as a late night snack for yourselves. Your back is turned to him and Evaâs sitting on the kitchen counter. Sheâs not really letting the bowl youâre tossing the carrot sticks in get very fullâ Sheâs dipping them in ranch and eating them pretty immediately.Â
âBecause you might get hurt.â
âWhy?â
âBecause youâve got little hands, and this is a big knife.â
âWhy?â
âBecause weirdly enough, big knives always seem to be the cheapest at my grocery storeâ I really donât get it.â
âHm.â She kicks her legs in the air, thinking of her next line of questioning. âWhy are you watching me tonight?â
Because Richieâs forgetful, a bad dad, a typical deadbeat divorcee with half a brainâÂ
âBecause I love you. Duh.â Well, of course you have to say that.Â
âWhy?â
âBecause youâre a good egg.â
âWhy?â
âBecause your dadâ And mumâ Made you into a good egg.â
âWhy?â
âBecause heâs a good dad.â
Oh. Thank God for Eva asking on his behalf, âWhy?â
âBecause heâs good.â You say it like itâs so simple, mind still focused on cutting carrots, like youâve said something as easy as describing the weather.Â
âWhy?â
âWellâ I dunno, thatâs like askingââ You put down your knife to pick up whatâs left of your current carrot. âThis carrot, why is it a carrot?â
â...â Eva canât help but laugh as she answers, âBecause itâs a carrot!âÂ
âExactly! Itâs a carrot! It just is a carrot! You canât ask a carrot why itâs a carrotâ Itâs just a carrot!â You chuckle in return, putting the carrot back down to chop it once more.
You shake your head as you answer, âYou canât ask why Richieâsâ Why your dad is good. He just is. Heâs good.â
If he were still alone in his car with his Kashi bar wrappers hearing this, heâd probably be crying into your tupperware.
But heâs here, so, canât.
He takes a step into your kitchenâ âThââ
Immediately, you shriek, stepping in front of Eva as you turn around, knife in hand. No coherent words come out of you, just screaming, thinking youâre about to pay repentance for leaving your door unlocked.Â
He almost drops your tupperware, holding it up in what is either defense or an offering. âNot a third time, Christ, please God?!â
At least he knows that in a time of crisis, you can go to bat for his kid.Â
At least Richie knows his best actively alive friend thinks heâs a good dad; thinks heâs good.
At least Richie will think of your words instead of any execs first, in his head.Â

yippee!!!
one day i'll write romance for this guy, one day. maybe.
anyways. sorry for my absence!! i cannot say it will improve my loves. don't worry, we're still finishing CK, it has just REALLY gotten tossed down the laundry list. No one reads these, but, life updates:
Got a new job! In my industry! I'll be working part-time hours there, so I had to talk to my current job about going part time--- And they let me!! Lowkey was hoping my ass would get fired so I'd have more time for you and more importantly, the next thing i'm gonna write about. Alas. We ball.
NOT a we ball moment, PARENT GOT THE BAD DISEASE!!! (fuck cancer!!!) Send sweet thoughts psychically, but not through actual message or asks or anything because i DO hate talking about it, but yknow. that's taken up obviously: most of my time lately!!
so many parties in october man. having our housewarming party next weekend. yes i know it's weird to be normal in this state but that's sort of how life is. we have to keep going?? crazy .
anyways. Hopefully once I start my new position, I can have a concrete schedule for writing. But until then! I'll probably write you short blurbs whenever inspiration hits, so send in requests man!!
Not to be stupid but requests and just talking about writing instead of the big bad evil in my life will do WONDERS for my mental stabilty!! so come yap in my inbox about CK and make me write about it.
love you!!! bed time for me now jesus chrsit.
