Thinking about Odin and Magpie...
On some brainrot stuff again so I’m gonna ramble about the Arrow siblings.
A long while ago I saved a translation of the nordic runes in panel 1547, seen below;
I can’t recall who did the translation (whether it was from here or Reddit, so if someone knows I’ll add credits to them!) but it reads:
“I woke up this morning and realised that I could not remember the sound of her voice. Her laugh echoes in my head when I try hard enough to imagine it. But it's nothing more than an empty weightless reflection of reality teetering on the cusp of my memory and it only brings me pain to try and remember it. But my fear of forgetting her is much more powerful and so I must remember and end up at the same question of everybody in the universe. What did we do to deserve this. Why me?"
This, written in Odin’s notebook presumably, was shown directly after Moribund Malediction. There is a level of intense melancholy associated with this writing, exploring a sense of longing to remember those who are no longer with us. If Odin did write this, then there are two characters that this reflection piece could be referring to; either Magpie or Odin’s mother. I’m more inclined to believe it’s Odin’s mother in this sense, as it’s been a longer period of time since she’s been around versus Magpie’s disappearance about 2 and a half years prior to the main story.
Tragically, Odin is forgetting his mother.
It doesn’t help that Pedri (later in the story when Odin is unveiling his “tragic backstoryTM”) was shown to be tormenting Odin through the visage of his mother. Being shown so many illusions, and perhaps turning to the herbs he smokes as a way of deterring Pedri, it would make sense if Odin has begun to forget what his mother was actually like when he was younger. It seems like the only good memory or dream he has of her is from when he was born around Gildhaust and she was showing him around.
It would be really sad if Odin was forgetting Magpie too, but from the clearer shots of her in his memories I do doubt it.
Speaking of Magpie, I went back to check out some panels I knew existed (namely panels 1275-1277, which appear just after Ava is trapped in the Gate to Paradise machine.
Looking back on these...it has to be Magpie! The bow, the blue...it just makes sense!
The first image shows Magpie looking rather happy, holding the hand of a featureless figure. This is likely Magpie with her ‘inbisible friend’, as she told Odin when they were younger. The inclusion of a happy sun (I think it is one on the righthand side?) is interesting, given that Aedinfell hasn’t been with a proper sun for a long time.
The second image shows Magpie looking much more upset and crying, standing alongside two other girls of similar (if not exact) stature. This must be her sisters; Crow and Raven. As the youngest of the triplets, she often was given a lot of grief (in Odin’s words), so this drawing seems to exemplify that! It’s possible she was bullied by her sisters, or teased for being the youngest.
The third image is a bit more confusing in my opinion. There’s 6 vertical lines followed by a faceless girl. It doesn’t appear to be Magpie specifically, since the bow is missing, but it could always be her regardless. My first thought (which could be wrong) was that the lines plus the girl equal to seven, like the seven deadly sins that the Hosts are meant to portray. Ava = Wrath, Odin = Pride, Gil = Envy, Maggie = Lust, Erios = Greed(?) and then three others that have yet to be revealed. What if this signifies that Magpie is the last Host we’ll meet pertaining to these sins? Honestly she’s probably not, but it’d be pretty cool.
If anyone has thoughts on that last image I’d love to hear them.
Anyway, I guess the point of these rambles is that I think the Arrow siblings need a big hug and lots of blankets because holy shit this family is traumatised af, and definitely need the additional care and love that they missed out on getting when they were kids.

I'd LOVE to know more! It's on sale and I considered getting it because I recognized the name from your posts, I'd love to hear more about it from you before I make a decision
of course!! So basically, the story revolves around these urban legends called the "Seven Mysteries" and various characters trying to learn the truth about them in order to further their own goals. The player switches between several main characters & their sidekicks, all of whom are pretty different but all very likeable! There’s a lot of alternate timeline stuff as well which is super cool.
The only romance is like very minor background mentions, and there's no creeping or gross flirty comments. There's some language, cigarette & alcohol use, etc., as well as of course lots of murder. There's plenty of disturbing imagery, but the gore is mostly limited to dialogue and written descriptions. There's also lots of flickering and flashing effects, although I believe the chromatic aberration effect can be disabled for easier viewing.
The puzzles include looking for clues around 360-degree environments, picking dialogue options, choosing when and how to use your characters' powers, etc. The game gives you a conversation log and detailed info about characters and setting in order to help you solve the puzzles. They're not too difficult, but they do require thought and are often very creative!
If you're interested, the characters include:
Shogo, an unremarkable Normal Guy(tm)
Yoko, the neighborhood Weird Girl who is fascinated by the paranormal
Harue, a rich housewife who's disturbingly comfortable with the idea of murder
Richter, an eccentric cowboy detective
Tsutsumi, a serious and experienced police dude with family issues
Erio, a much more excitable junior officer
Yakko, a teenage schoolgirl who would rather punch you than use an ancient curse
Mio, a more introverted brand of Weird Girl and knows a lot about magic
and lots more!!!

The whole bloodline is a rainbow.
All right so first of all I'd like to talk abt Theresa. I hate her tbh, but like-??? Her story is so sad because she sees people's death before they are born. And I believe that at one point, she fell inlove with a woman but saw her death and it was the first time it happened to her, so she broke up and just disappeared. Since then she blocked her feelings.
Then let's move on to Sparrow. She is pan. Do I need to explain??
Logan. Gay or bi with a preference for men, and probably asexual. I headcanon that he had a boyfriend/childhood friend like El, named Vince. Vince kind of threw tantrums when Logan wanted to keep their relationship hidden, and in Aurora his body wasn't found. He woke up and realized he was "free". He decided to sail away with Auroreans proletars and later on when Reaver disappears, they decide to self-proclaim as kings and queens of pirates. Hobw and Logan (so it's after the Crawler's defeat) go to their boat to assess the situation and realize Vince is alive, the irony being that he offers Logan to be his consort. Logan refuses and later on meets a guy at court called Erios. Erios is the "heir" of his family and will soon be forced to marry by his parents if he doesn't find a woman, and pushes Logan away before actually accepting. Then some stuff involving Vince's death happens but let's not spoil too much.
Female hobw. She is lesbian. To me she married a woman named Ruby, and they used the trans potion to get Ruby pregnant. Their first child was a daughter named Phoenyx, because she was "born from ashes" referring to the fact that she is born like fours years after the war, in the middle of Albion's reconstruction. And also, it carries on the idea that they are all associated to a bird, so it's part of Sparrow's legacy. Later on it's a boy called Hawk-Logan because why not? Hobw liked the name and wanted to tell her brother she forgave part of what he did, plus her mother has named her Rose after her older sister, so why not do the same after her older brother?

The difference between ‘byth’ and ‘erioed’ (Y gwahaniaeth rhwng ‘byth’ ac ‘erioed’)
Both mean ever/never, 'ever' in a question, never in negatives, replacing ‘ddim’ where it would occur in such a sentence. But they differ in which tense each can be used.
erioed/byth -> ever/never (adverb)
byth bythoedd/yn oes oesoedd -> for ever and ever (just an idiomatic phrase)
“Dwi ddim yn meddwl amdano fe.” I don't think about it.
Alternatively, you could use ddim, and then tack on byth/erioed at the end of the sentence.
Tenses and usage (Amserau a defnydd)
Erioed is used in “completed tenses in the past”, the present perfect, simple past and pluperfect (past perfect) tenses, replacing ddim in the negative.
“Dwi erioed wedi meddwl amdano fe.” I have never thought about it. “Dwi ddim wedi meddwl amdano fe erioed.” [Present perfect]
“Wnes i erioed feddwl amdano fe.” I never thought about it. “Wnes i ddim meddwl amdano fe erioed.” [Simple past]
*Note: Eriod, unlike ddim, does not prevent the soft mutation from occurring. “Wnes i ddim meddwl”, ond “wnes i erioed feddwl”.
“Do'n i erioed wedi meddwl amdano fe.” I had never thought about it. [Past perfect]
Byth is used with all other tenses: present, future, imperfect (past continuous), conditional.
“Dwi byth yn meddwl amdano fe.” I never think about it. [Simple present]
“Fydda i byth yn meddwl amdano fe!” I will never think about it! [Future]
“Do'n i byth yn meddwl amdano fe.” I was never thinking/never used to think about it. [Imperfect]
“Faswn i/fyddwn i byth yn meddwl amdano fe.” I would never think about it. [Conditional]
Erioed is an interesting word in its etymology, Wiktionary (fy ffrind gorau yn y byd, yn wir) says it comes from er (like ers, meaning since) + ei (3rd person singular basically) + oed (time, age). Literally ‘never’ = ‘since their time’.
If you've never had ice-cream, ti erioed wedi cael hufen-iâ, you've never had ice cream since your time (on earth, presumably), though why you wouldn't have ice cream ever is beyond me. Dwi'n mynd i fwyta hufen iâ nawr, in fact. Fel trît :)
(On the other hand, byth shares a root with the word ‘byd’, meaning ‘world’ but also used in the negative sense with dim to mean nothing: dim byd. Maybe it's the way French uses the word 'monde' meaning world, where ‘tout le monde’, literally the whole world, just means ‘everyone’ (dramatic much!), but I am just thinking out here.
I think about it because it makes it easier to remember the Welsh structure when I've seen these structures before elsewhere, helps me get comfortable with them far quicker than if I were starting from scratch, but also because these sort of structures where you use two words to form a negative, and the word that actually carries the negative notion gets dropped in favour of the word that sticks out to us the most, which may even carry the positive notion, has been around for a while in a few languages!
English had a similar thing way back when (the reason this is under a Keep Reading is because it's 2 AM and so I might be getting stuff wrong here, but I think the 'way back when' in question was Middle English. Don't want to feed anyone lies though! I'll double check that with a history of English/linguistics textbook later), when the structure for an English negative was "[subject] ne [conjugated verb] not". ‘I ne saye not’ was how you'd say that you don't say. The ‘ne’ dropped off in time, and over time ‘do’ joined the ‘not’ and moved to the front giving us ‘I do not say, and ‘not’ is sufficient to convey negation.
French currently has the Middle English structure: ‘Je ne dis pas.’ In colloquial French, you do see the 'ne' dropping off too, 'je dis pas' is understood to mean the same and pas in itself is sufficient to convey negation.
In Welsh, ‘dim byd’ means nothing, but ‘dim’ initially just meant ‘a thing’ in Old Welsh, and ‘dim byd’ was closer to ‘anything’ than ‘nothing’ (Wiktionary implies it might've come from something along the lines of “a thing of the world”, whereas it now seen as “nothing (of) the world”) , and there was an old word at the beginning of the sentence to convey the negation when it was used in this way to mean nothing.
(A word which, because it is 2 AM I cannot for the life of me be sure of getting right. But similar to how other negative verbs like 'dwyt/dydy/dyw', 'does' etc. came to acquire their 'd's from the negative word 'nid' that would go before them, while 'wyt/ydy/yw/oes' retained their usual non-negative notions, dim had something too, but I can't remember. “Nid oes dim byd yma” literally just meant “there isn't (nid -> not) anything here”, and that just became “Does dim byd yma”.)
Some digging around tells me that this is called ‘semantic bleaching’.
Anyway, what was all this about? Byth, it comes from the Old Irish word meaning world. And that's that! (...along with potential mistakes)
#grammar#vocabulary#dysgu cymraeg#learn welsh#sentences#source: duolingo#source: wiktionary#byth#erioed#adverbs#welsh#cymraeg#langblr#language learning#just read a comprehensive breakdown of it on Duolingo and Wiktionary and wanted to write it down somewhere before it stopped making sense t#me. Figured I may as well post it publicly since I'd written it all!#idiomatic expressions

The Lyrical Nanoha post
Today on “what to watch while waiting for season nine,” here’s my post on Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, one of my favorite magical girl series.
So what’s marvelous in Lyrical Nanoha? The worldbuilding. There’s so much stuff in this show! Magical girls, magical girls in sports, magical girls in organized strike teams, magical girls in the government. Magic jewels, magic staffs, magic guns, magic plushies, magic rollerblades, upgrade devices (that look like tiny cute anime girls) magic circles, shapeshifters, cyborgs (that also look like cute anime girls) ancient weapons (that look like cute anime girls too) reincarnation, cloning, dimension ships, different worlds, ancient empires, and dragons.
I love that the devices talk and change shape. The visuals are wonderful. The transformation sequences are great and the attacks are cool. The stories are heartfelt and all the characters are fun, even if there are sometimes too many to keep straight. And Nanoha is one of the few magical girl series that has a whole magical world that the girls visit and eventually move to permanently.
Some parts of all-things-lyrical are available streaming on Prime but other parts are unlicensed so you can sail the seven seas guilt-free. There’s a site called “nyaa” where I have in the past gotten my hands on unlicensed anime. You can read the manga here, but the manga has 1)fanservice, including of underage characters, which the anime does not have and 2)a lot of characters who kind of all look the same which makes it less fun to read than some.
The series is also special because it shifts genre as the franchise goes on, starting as a traditional magical girl story, turning into a kind of technomagical war story, then unexpectedly morphing into a sports anime.
And, ooh look, I can link all the openings.
youtube
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
Your standard magical girl plot. Young Nanoha meets a magical ferret who gives her a transformation device because he needs her help to collect “jewel seeds” that can turn things into monsters. The ferret is actually a boy, an archaeologist who was transporting the magical items when an accident stranded him on earth. But a mysterious blonde girl with magic of her own is trying to get the jewel seeds too! Nanoha sees sadness in her rival’s eyes and resolves to save her, even as authorities from the magic dimension come to help get the situation under control.
And here begins the strange theme of the series: our heroines make friends by defeating them, in combat! It’s really very odd.
youtube
Nanoha A’s
Nanoha and Fate make a new friend, a wheelchair user named Hayate. Little do they know their new friend has magic of her own. Hayate’s health is deteriorating and her three magical guardians are desperate to save her at any cost. Nanoha and Fate can only help them by… defeating them in combat!
youtube
Nanoha Strikers
The third series is 26 episodes and jumps ahead to when the girls are in their twenties. They’ve moved to the magic dimension of Midchilda where they work for the government as professional magical girls responding to disasters. They’ve also become teachers. Nanoha’s two proteges Subaru and Tiana and Fate’s two proteges Erio and Caro learn to use their magical items and soon the whole gang is faced with an emergency! A villain has created a bunch of minions, who need to be befriended by defeating them in combat. He’s also created a clone of an ancient queen in the form of a little girl and, more than just befriending her, Nanoha adopts her.
StrikerS is a good series, it has loads of worldbuilding, new characters, epic battles, all kinds of good stuff. But having your magical girls be adult professionals who have military ranks is a big change from schoolgirls on Earth so it may weird your magical girl vibe.
youtube
Nanoha Vivid
Changes the vibe again. Now it’s a sports anime! With no enemies attacking, Nanoha and Fate’s daughter Vivio only needs to use her magic to compete in transformed martial arts. Vivio is the clone of an ancient queen, and she meets a cool emotionless girl who is the reincarnation of a friend of that queen and is driven by her ancestral memories to become the strongest fighter. She needs befriending through defeat! I do quite like that aspect: Einhart turns up driven by her past life memories to become the strongest and gets told quite matter-of-factly to join a gym and channel her mystical urges productively!
Vivid is a sports anime with transformation sequences. (in which the little girls become adults and body parts inflate like balloons.) The world of Midchilda seems less magical than it did in StrikerS; Vivio and her friends train at a gym that’s pretty much like a gym in our world and Vivio’s magic item doesn’t talk or change shape. The anime of Vivid also comes after some audio dramas and animates a small part of a manga, so the anime has a bunch of characters that are just there with no explanation of who they are, and it doesn’t end at the end. The manga is very long and is more about putting the characters in a series of cute costumes than actually having a story. I mean there is a story but boy do they spend a lot of time in swimsuits and Chinese dresses and maid outfits and more swimsuits...
youtube
Vivid Strike
Nanoha has moved on from her own series. The new heroine is a girl named Fuuka who has become estranged from her friend Rinne after Rinne experienced bullying and became a cold and closed-off person. How can Fuuka break through her friend’s shell and restore their relationship? Maybe her new friend Vivio can help!
Vivid Strike is a spinoff story that stars Fuuka with Vivio and her friends as side characters. The anime is a complete story arc and it’s a good show. But Midchilda has become even less magical; it now has normal non-flying cars and Fuuka gets in a fight with some gangstas. I’m pretty sure the government we saw in StrikerS wouldn’t let there be gangstas in the city!

[Erio tilted his head slightly. He hummed]
Interesting. It looks convincing enough..you’re sure it’ll be able to fool them? They are trickster gods after all..they do stuff like this all the time..
*A raven with green eyes lands in front of Erio*
@thunder-goddess
[Erio was on his island, collecting herbs when he spotted the raven. He tilted his head and held out his hand for the raven to perch on]
Hello there..

Update: Upcoming theories!
Heyo! So for the hiatus I’d been brainstorming a bunch of recap-theories that would be flushing out older one-offs that I’d mentioned in previous posts, but now we have a new update so I might not be able to get to all of them
Currently I’m looking at doing:
A Nevy masterpost recapping her flashbacks and history with Pedri and Wrathia (this would overlap a ton with any Wrathia or Pedri masterpost in the future since most of what we know about both of their pasts is from this)
A Gil masterpost mostly talking about his relationship with TiTAN and his future dynamics with Odin, Maggie, and subsequently Ava and Erios.
A full length post filling in the gaps on Pedri (going over what happened between Wrathia taking the potion and him taking the potion 😳)
A colour analysis post discussing some neat things I noticed, would be pretty short probably but it’d be fun :)
I’d really love to hear people’s ideas on what you’d like! I would lowkey love to do a masterpost on every character that reviews all of the theoretical stuff I/we know about them, but there’d be a lot of overlap there so for now I’m focusing on key players, aka the Wrathia/Nevy/Pedri history and Gil’s past/future.

Some things I noticed in the Ava’s Demon update (it’s good to be back)

The first thing I noticed is the Nimis fellow! The first thing I noticed is that he looks awfully like the old silhouette for star host before the update, and he even has star-shaped eyes! Despite this, Sound Master Byte seems to be the true star host, as shown by the updated cast picture:
Don’t know about you guys, but I can only come to one conclusion: Prismonarch Nimis and Sound Master Byte are the same dude. I can think of two scenarios regarding the circumstances of this double life:
1. Being Sound Master Byte is sort of just a side thing for Nimis, and everyone on Excessa of Nimis knows that they’re the same person, and Nimis is just so full of himself he makes an announcement video for his own birthday. While this would be hilarious, I doubt this is very likely.
2. He’s leading a secret double life, a la Hannah Montana. Perhaps he didn’t like all the responsibilities of royalty and decided to secretly become a musician? But since he’d probably still want a cushy life as a musician, he still gave himself ties to the royal family, by having him perform at stuff like his own birthday party.
The second thing I wanna point out is Tchiptune. What exactly is it? It seems to be a Tamagotchi-esque thing in his helmet.
...It’s almost like it’s implied the things in his head, don’t you think?
What if Tchiptune is Sound Master Byte’s host, somehow turned into an AI of some sort? Or maybe it’s just some technology that makes the host able to communicate with the outside world via his helmet? The story is already a healthy mix of sci-fi and fantasy, so I’d say it’s plausable! (This theory I admittedly have slightly less confidence in, but I thought it would still be worth bringing up.)
Finally, I just thought I’d bring up Nimis’ portrait itself! And one thing I noticed is the large amounts of triangles! It’s his portrait frame, in a way, there are a bunch of tiny ones surrounding him...

He’s even making a triangle with his hands! iLlUmInAtI cOnFiRmEd Seems to be more hints that he’s going to be connected to Maggie somehow!
Anyway, that’s it for now. I might make another post where I might analyze this a bit more, and maybe talk about Nimis’ name (since it’s implied to be Erios Nimis) and maybe even look at the songs at that playlist Michelle made for stardude and see if I can figure out what his character might be like.

Extra little notes from Today’s Stream! (29/4)
Here’s some extra stuff I took note of in today’s stream! Michelle mainly did some panel sketches today and they looked pretty good!
- Michelle got Covid hence why she missed yesterday’s stream
- The panels sketched in this stream show Movue (I think) playing a game only to be pushed aside for the channel to be switched on the console for an advertisement to play --> This could possibly either be; the announcement from TITAN about Ava, Odin, Maggie and Gil being wanted, or the advertisement from Erios about the big party that’s gonna happen
- “That would be awesome if Double Fine could make an Ava’s Demon game. Even if it’s, like…a nothing game.” --> This was off-handedly mentioned and thought it was cool that Michelle would like a game made about Ava’s Demon!
- Ava’s Demon will be 10 years old this year!
- In the panel featuring Myelo it contains the tune from ‘Close Encounters’
Not much was discussed in this stream that was Ava’s Demon related, but it was still fun to listen and watch while I was working on some animation stuff for university.
Here’s to hoping Michelle and her husband have a quick recovery from Covid soon! <3
