'Peth' normally means a thing, but it can also be used to mean some [of xyz]. I'd been hunting around for the right word to use in certain situations, and turns out there absolutely is a less clunky way than 'ychidig o...'. I can now use 'beth o...'

"Dwi angen peth o'r glud." I need some of the glue.

"Ga i beth?" Can I have some?

There are also other ways of saying 'some'.

Sparry who has a hot & heavy bromance with Argentinean polo player named Nacho pretended that he was too dumb to say a simple thank you and good night to the crowd. He enlisted the help of his soap actress wife (who snatched the mic) for the Spanish "translation" as if the croud was too dumb to translate the simple English phrase for themselves.

Who is going to tell these idiots that even if she is the bilingual Duchess (which she's not) it would NOT make her special. You'd think the woman could speak Mandarin. 🥴

Twenty year old Prince Harry flew back to London from Buenos Aires Thursday afternoon after the Argentine press revealed he had become a “head ache” for those responsible for his security.

Mayor of Lobos, Gustavo Sobrero minimized the press versions about Prince Harry's behaviour, particularly last Wednesday early morning when shots were heard in a nearby farm which forced a quick security response in the area.

anyway, I see a lot of people joke about nonsense sentences on Duolingo. There really aren't a lot of them, and I can understand the purpose of them for learning grammar, setence patterns, etc. But just straight up "Well we'll say 半 means thirty because it can be used to express 2:30, for example, even though it actually means half" is what pisses me off. I've seen people defend this, but I think it's genuinely a bad way to teach that. The same with 乗る as 'to take'. Like yes, in English, you can say you 'take' a bus or whatever, but you can just as easily say 'to ride' and it's a thousand times less confusing to a beginner when they go on to learn like 取る for example! Maybe these are nitpicks, but to me these seem like bizarre and confusing choices that will inevitably confuse people, and they keep happening. It feels like it gets worse with every update too.

Man I'd reaaaally love to learn Portuguese again, but I'm learning Spanish rn, and learning both can be so confusing sometimes.

Does anyone have some tips on how to generally learn languages well? (And perhaps tips on how to learn Spanish and Portuguese without getting terms mixed up?)
