okay, starting with the canon boys: Jacob i've made a son of Venus and i've decided is best friends with Terrel and Bobby. He's a shy and quiet kind of guy but he's doing his best. Also insert my hc about 5th cohort being more likely to be direct descendants versus legacies here (cause something something lack of letters of recommendation). Also because of a mistranslation about his job title my group chat has decided his demigod weapon is a gun. Julius i made a legacy of Indiges (deified Aeneas) based on his name. I haven't decided too much for him other than I think it would be interesting if Jason used to have a crush on him at some point.

VES okay Ves is fun. So first things first: scene kid my beloved. Scene kid with a bee theme. The joke is the hair stripes. His lore is that he's a legacy of Mellona (goddess of honey/bees) and he has a big ol' crush on Gerard, because Gerard is emo and they have similar music tastes.

Gerard i am going to be completely honest is 100% themed on MCR. I like listening to music when I design characters and I thought it'd be funny also i realized the name Gerard works thematically for a Mars kid. It all came together. Anyways he's emo, he's an MCR fan, no he does not know Ves has a big ol' crush on him. Ves is dying, squirtle.

Edgar is a son of Lua, a goddess to whom weapon spoils of war were sacrificed to. He's just kind of a cool edgy guy. Not pictured is his bestie, a girl named Felicity Pace, who is a legacy of Abundantia and Pax, and is also in 4th cohort. They're opposites-attract thematically (war vs peace, low energy vs high energy) but also they're both fashionistas and extremely dramatic.

Anton is my extremely self-indulgent pointing at Mars and how to the Romans he was also a god of civilization and ideal Roman life, which included him being an agricultural god, so legacy of Mars and child of Ceres. He's grumpy but he's very passionate about plants.

They're all mostly just meant to be background characters fleshing out Camp Jupiter for Deadangelos so they don't have a ton of meat to them, but I like to try and give them all at least something. At the very least a hobby, theme, interest, or relationships. Something along those lines.

Listening to Reckless Battery Burns after hearing End-World Normopathy is such a cool experience, because it seemed to have random lyrics when it first came out, but then you realize that the lyrics weren't random at all.

The nature of reality in the story (a simulation? something else?) effects humankind (and Tamari's patients). The negative aspects of humanity Tamari has to endure during the sessions is a heavy, unwelcome weight.

Tamari has been giving vibes of a trickster-type since the beginning. When Tamari runs away before the events in End-World Normopathy, they must have been unleashing chaos into everyone mentally. (And maybe even before they ran away too -- and starting experimenting with how to do it in the lab.) Tamari not only possesses deep knowledge about the human psyche, but has the power and ability to affect it.

See? Some more of the trickster type from Tamari. So it seems while Tamari is causing a lot of mayhem (and maybe even suffering), it's not for a malicious reason.

Hm. I mean. It's a mixed bag??? I wouldn't call it weird.

My latest research binge was how old timey radios function for the sole purpose of rebuilding it inside of a rubber duck. The reasons should be obvious thank you. I'm nothing if not thorough.

Before that it was textiles and coinage based around the time of the original Assassins Creed. Before that it was medicinal practices and treatment / likelihood of survival of gut wounds (for Run It Again) so I mean.

It's not weird just...a variety.

Music. Music and art. That's about it. Art that is either like a scene in my head or is a scene in my head or based on something I wrote, and music just in general. I have like 8 different writing playlists, character playlists, mood playlists...it's a lot. Music is my biggest inspiration. Words don't flow without a soundtrack for me.

machine HQ is currently taking a break, which should explain the fewer number of posts on social media platforms this month. That said, arg did manage to publish a new list of books he has enjoyed in the past few months as well as post an old sketchbook rendering of a spacecraft from the Marvinverse, plus this behind-the-scenes image from The Apocalypse Project. And here he is again – with a new playlist for the month of November.

November tracks… As is usual with all previously-published machine HQ playlists, you will find a wide range of genres in this new playlist as well. Liebe Leute. Also, da haben wir's: 'Duchamp, Gabel und Rad auf Hocker'. Klingt erstmal wie der Titel eines absurden Theaterstücks, nicht wahr? Duchamp, dieser alte Schelm, hat uns hier ein Rätsel hinterlassen. Eine Gabel und ein Rad, die sich auf einem Hocker räkeln, als wären sie nach einer durchzechten Nacht dort gelandet. Es ist, als hätte jemand versucht, das ultimative IKEA-Möbelstück zu kreieren, aber dann bei Seite 2 der Anleitung aufgegeben. Aber nein, das ist hohe Kunst, meine Damen und Herren! Neu und maximal innovativ im Jahre 1913. Es wird noch besser! Was wir hier im Museum Ludwig sehen, ist nicht einmal das Original. Es ist eine Reproduktion. Ja, Ihr habt richtig gehört. Die Aura des echten Kunstwerks? Fehlanzeige. - Mir fehlt die Patina. Das Original dieses Meisterwerks landete auf dem Müll. Aber keine Sorge, das Kunstwerk wurde rekonstruiert, und zwar mehrfach. Unter anderem steht hier im Ludwig eine Kopie. Doch die älteste noch erhaltene Kopie chillt im Museum of Modern Art in New York. "Das Fahrradrad ist mein erstes Readymade, und zwar so sehr, dass ich es zunächst nicht einmal als 'Readymade' bezeichnet habe. Es hatte noch wenig mit der Idee des Readymade zu tun.“ MD Patina – das ist so ein Ding, oder? Für mich ist ein Fahrrad aus dem Jahr 1913 ohne Kratzer, abgeblätterte Farbe und Rost so authentisch wie ein Tofu-Schnitzel in einer bayrischen Wirtschaft. Vor über zwei Jahrzehnten war ich in Südfrankreich unterwegs. Stellt euch vor: Ein Bauerhof und ein Gästezimmer, das so groß war wie die Abstellkammer meiner Oma und dann dieses Regal. Zusammengezimmert aus alten Holzgarnrollen und ein paar Brettern, die jemand in einem Anfall von künstlerischer Freiheit schnell weiß angepinselt hatte. Darauf ein Stapel leichte französische Literatur. Ich dachte, ich hätte ihn gefunden. Einen echten Duchamp! Vielleicht sein allererstes Readymade. Ich sah mich schon in den Kunstnachrichten. "Oh, das hat meine Tochter in den 70ern gebastelt."' so die Dame des Hauses. "Das Ding ist so viel wert war wie ein Baguette von gestern." Ich stelle gerade mir vor, wie Duchamp in seinem Atelier sitzt, das Rad ansieht und denkt: 'Ja, das ist es!'. Ein bisschen wie wenn man nach einem langen Tag nach Hause kommt und sich eine Trash-TV-Show ansieht – man weiß, es ist nicht hochkulturell, aber es beruhigt irgendwie. Duchamp hat mit diesem Werk die Kunstwelt revolutioniert. Euer Lu

Hintergrund (Wikipedia): Das erste Fahrrad-Rad fertigte Duchamp 1913. Im selben Jahr entstanden erste Skizzen zu Readymades, wie Le Grand Verre, dem Großen Glas; zum Erratum Musical, dem ersten musikalischen Readymade, sowie zu Broyeuse de chocolat no 1, der Schokoladen-Mühle Nr. 1. Das erste Roue de Bicyclette ging vermutlich mit Beginn des Ersten Weltkrieges und Duchamps Umzug nach New York verloren. Der einzige Nachweis des Original-Rads ist eine Fotografie von Duchamps Atelier in Paris aus dem Entstehungsjahr.
