i've been chewing through dracula for months now and it's great but i keep getting distracted by ao3. it is what it is. i'm also reading "was politiker nicht sagen" by gregor gysi (wahoo german politics jumpscare), it's a pretty interesting subject matter!

Thoughts on Gege bringing back Nobara 5 chapters before the ending.

Man...that sure is a thing that happened. I don't even know how to feel about it. Technically, it's good. I like Yuuji and Nobara team-ups and appreciate the callback to their fight against Mahito. Nobara gets to contribute to the fight against the final villain (even if it's just one hit). But at the same time the exact thing I worried would happen if Nobara came back this late happened. Her being "confirmed" dead in ch 265 by Yuuji thinking about her and all the other loved ones he saw die felt weird, but this isn't any better. She literally came back at the last possible moment. Fell out of the hospital bed and immediately went over to do her thing against Sukuna. They sure are lucky she didn't wake up half an hour later and appears to have no side effects from having been in a coma and transfigured by Mahito.

The timing is just way off. We got two very emotional chapters where both Yuuji and Megumi showed immense personal growth and Megumi just regained his will to live and fight back. Only for Nobara to come in like "lmao why the long faces guys xD" (which only Utahime and Gakuganji are there to hear, who I assume really couldn't care less). This just didn't feel like the right place or time to pull that moment. Yuuji's reveal that he was alive happened in a low-stakes situation where jokes are to be expected and he also did it right in front of the people who mattered. It was set up as comedic. He didn't butt into an emotional moment.

And then there's the problem that Nobara has just been far left behind by the story at this point. She has no personal involvement with Sukuna. Sure, she wants to protect her friends from him, but that is nothing compared to the relationship Yuuji and Megumi have with him. They are all three deeply connected and Nobara is an outsider here. I don't think Nobara and Sukuna ever even met. Kusakabe is more connected to Sukuna than her. There isn't much she contributes in terms of themes, world building or powers either. And there's no time anymore for all that to get established because Sukuna will likely die/be sealed next chapter or the one after and the whole series ends in 4 chapters.

Maybe the next chapter will tie the tonal whiplash between last chapter and this one better together, but that doesn't change the fact that Nobara's character is too underdeveloped to have much of an impact at this point. It still feels like she's simply there to complete the trio and Gege doesn't quite know what to do with her.

maybe it's growing older, maybe it's 2020 and its consequences, maybe i'm just more jaded from the start now but i no longer get the urge to ragequit a show i like for declining in quality.

and thinking back on how many of my formerly favorite shows i ragequit at one point or another (even spn multiple times) when i could have done what i do now (lower my expectations) kinda makes me sad? then again it's also accurate to say that without this distance i probably wouldn't be able to be more forgiving of the bad seasons now that i'm either rewatching or watching what i missed for the first time (and i've been doing that for so many shows in the past few years). but it's not that i don't still have the same criticisms that drove me away the first time, i can just manage them better and focus on what i like instead of fixating on what i dislike.

I would have loved for her to have returned and used her technique on Sukuna. At least, she wasn't forgotten.

Mobius and Klein were Tanit scholars/doctors

(OG Klein is the one on the far left btw. I know I changed a lot of her design elements and I’m not sure how clear that is, so I’m just specifying here. Also, it’s on the side of her belt so idk how well y’all can see it, but she has a hydro vision)

They left the tribe pretty early on (if you’ve played that quest™️, you know why. If you don’t, I’m not gonna spoil it here)

They also left so Mobi could investigate the withering and see if it might have any connections to the Honkai/ see if there was any chance of the Honkai leaking into Teyvat

Klein never got her Honkai memories back, but she still fell in love with Mobi anyways and they’re still lab partners. Mobi got her memories back fairly early on

Klein got Eleazar, so they decided to move from the desert to Sumeru city to seek better medical treatment

She’s fine now and made it through the end of the arcon quest, so she got cured 👍

Mobi is a professor at the academia

Her students are terrified of her

So usual Mobius shenanigans

Being a professor also put her in a position where she’s closer to Irminsul, so she’s content with the situation

The matra know damn well she’s continuing her artificial life experiments, but they can’t prove shit so she’s in the clear

Alhaitham was the first successful clone baby she made, Klein jr was the second

The thing Elysia did to Su’s arm stuck through the reincarnation, so Su got his memories back very early on

He grew up on the same block as Fu Hua over in Liyue harbor, but she didn’t get her memories back until her late teens

Su grew up hearing a lot of stories about the chasm, and he was worried that it might have something to do with the Honkai

But he didn’t actually have the clearance to investigate that, so had to go to Sumeru Academia to get the research clearance only to find out about Eleazar and the Withering and get significantly more anxious

Imagine his face after being told he has to go through med school again lmao (at least there’s legitimately different illnesses and treatments in Teyvat, so he does have something new to learn)

Anyways, he ran into Mobi and Kevin at the Academia

Kevin grew up in Mondstad and got his memories back in his early 20s. He moved to Sumeru city because he thought it’d be the place with highest chance of him running into someone he knows so that they can explain wtf is going on

Kevin and Su got married somewhere along the way I guess, but that’s not important right now

Anyways, Mobius basically stole their genes off their clothes or something so she wouldn’t have to use any of Klein’s in the prototypes for her experiments

Alhaitham was the first successful artificial life she made and she just sorta handed him off to Kevin and Su and they both sorta just “aight, guess we have a kid now”

Mobius still got to be his grandma though and watched him a lot while Kevin and Su (well, Su mostly. Kevin was there more as a bodyguard) were off doing research in the chasm (which is why Alhaitham is the way he is)

My excitement for Natlan increased astronomically.

You are telling me that two (2) of the three top harbingers are literally gonna be there: Capitano & Columbina.

It's making me think like, in the teyvat chapters preview video it alludes to a war taking place there, either actively or something that begins to happen when the traveler arrives, Murata being the goddess of war and everything. It's making me wonder why the hec k the fatui would have two of their biggest freaking threats there and I'm wondering if maybe Natlan is the one nation that highkey stands up against the Fatui, and refuse to take any of their shit, and the war that may and could be taking place there is against them so having two of their best there is in their best interest.

I am just so, so excited for Natlan you have no idea.
