"Here we go." Leo groaned as the bickering from the kitchen grew closer.

"-least I'm smart enough to understand basic math."

"Ok, number one, it wasn't 'BaSiC MaTh', it was advanced calculus, and number two, at least I'm able to comprehend the concept of multi-universal travel."

Donnie laughed bitterly, "Scoff! (Name), we have discussed this. The idea of multi-universal travel is such an impossible concept-"

"YOU INTRODUCED THE CONCEPT TO ME YOU-"

"Ok, you two. That's enough, don't make me get the Getting Along shirt." Raph scowled at the two of you.

You crossed your arms, and glared at Donnie, with him scowling at you in turn. You had to admit, the two of you were incredible actors. Of course you didn't actually hate each other, this was simply theatrics to throw his family off the scent of your relashonship.

The two of you had agreed to keep your dating statis on the down-low, knowing that his brothers could be a bit... essentric.

In actuality, the two of you were quite sweet to each other when you were alone, having no need to keep up the act.

Raph sighed, "You two need to learn to get along. Maybe some time in the Lab would do you guy's some good." He then muttered, "And then we wouldn't have to listen to you argue."

"Fine." Donnie scoffed, then he looked at you, "But don't move anything. If you try to reorginize my toolbox again I swear to the pizza supreme-"

"Relax, smartass, I won't move your stuff."

The two of you began to walk to the Lab, Donnie continuing to glare at you, "That's what you said last time, then you put my blowtorch on shelf #7 instead of shelf #3."

You rolled your eyes, "A small mistake that has only occured once."

The Lab doors closed behind you, and you kissed Donnie on the cheek, "And I apologize."

Donnie cleared his throat, his face darker with his blush, "Well, I suppose you can be forgiven."

You nodded with a small smile, then flipped over a chalkboard to reveal the blueprints and plans for another A.I., a small project you two had been working on based on S.H.E.L.D.O.N's new found loneliness.

"So I was thinking that maybe, our current issue lies in the motherboards programming." you started, "Perhaps, with the proper examination, we could trace the bugs back to a faulty motherboard."

Donnie hummed, looking over the motherboard that lay among the other parts scattered on the table, "Good, observation my dear. I'll give it a quick check just to make sure."

You nodded, turning back to the chalkboard to double check the equations on the blueprints. The only noise in the room was the buzz of Donnie's goggles behind you, and you frowned.

The two of you worked best with music in the backround, this much silence was distracting in a way.

"Would you mind some music, Love?"

You and Donnie blinked at each other, then began giggling. You had moments like that often, where your minds just seemed to meld together.

Before either of you could say a thing, however, the loud voice of Leo cut through the air, "WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!"

You and Donnie whipped your heads around, your gazes meeting the incredulous ones of his three brothers.

Leo looked horrified at the concept of you and Donnie getting along. And "Love" ???

Raph and Mikey looked at the two of you, confusion evident on their features.

"But- I thought you two hated... each other..?" Mikey said, confused.

You looked at Donnie, the two of you having a silent conversation. He sighed and looked at his brothers, "Well, the jig is, as they say, up. We're dating. surprise!" you giggled as he made the jazz hands gesture, and Leo's mouth opened wider.

"Woah, woah- wait. wait wait WAIT. You two, are dating? when did that happen?"

Donnie looked at you, signaling it was your turn, "Uhm- like, last year? sometime in August."

"WHAT?"

You chuckled, and Donnie sighed, "Alright, we have work to do, so, out out. Shoo!"

Donnie pushed his protesting brothers out the door, promising to answer questions later, then all but slammed the door in their face.

He turned to you, his cheeks once again darker with his blush.

"Well, at least we don't have to pretend to hate each other anymore."

Donnie laughed, shaking his head as he sat back down, "You realize they won't leave us alone for like, the next 10 years, correct?"

You nodded and pulled your swivel chair to sit next to him, "I am well aware that's a possible outcome of the situation."

With a sigh, Donnie layed his head on your shoulder, and you smiled. Yes, perhaps the jig was indeed up, but at least now, you could burn that stupid script.

When you first found the amazing digital circus what was your first impression?

I though " oh silly funny essentric universe-- there is a jester so theres probably mideival themes with a king and a kingom... I can try different genres, sure! " And then turns out the genre appealed to my interest more than expected... Which is sci-fi... Oh nooo

The moment I saw jax on tiktok, I knew he was overrated.

I adored Ragatha and hated how relatable she was (I honestly thought she would be my favorite)

I found Caine silly funny and just thought hed be a casual interest (so wrong)

I adored Pomni because she was a protagonist with an actual personality

LOVED kinger... Saw him and was like " me too." And added him to my kin list.

Everyone else I had no opinion on until I got to study their character.

I thought Caine was gonna be a William Afton situation before I learned he was ai... I was about to get so burnt out with the "evil person trapping everyone" so I rolled my eyes.... But then I learned that he was ai and it peaked my interest. I love that take. I also adore ai characters so it just added more love points for the guy.

Man, is definitely gonna call you 'Princess', idk why Soo-bin gives Golden Retriever energy as a boyfriend but he does and he definitely has a thing for the Black Cat Girls, IDC IDC idddc. He's definitely gonna spoil his girlfriend.

He is definitely a 'Baby girl' kinda guy. You cannot convince me other wise. He has such daddy energy, I mean..... hello? Have you seen his concept photos for his mixtape?

He's more likely to call you 'babe' or 'baby' It's simple and comfortable. I cannot see him calling his girl anything essentric or romantic, not that he isn't. But I feel like babe would hit so sweet especially with his little smirk.

Okay, bare with me. He's the type of guy to call you 'Love' or 'My Love', I mean look at his pictures, look at how calm he is. If TXT was the cast of JJK, he'd be Nanami. Green Flags across the board. Taehyun is gonna make sure you know just how much he loves you.

"Angel" or "Sweetheart". I mean, it's Kai....(like I said baby boy in them streets). He is a total sweetheart and a softie for you & likes to call call you how he sees you..as his angel.

Comic characters' music taste is so important to me bc I feel like it sets a tone for the type of person they are and also is a look into the time those comics were written. Like I think Booster liking 50s-60s girl groups while living in the 80s and being from the 25th century is actually an awesome character detail.

I think Ted Enjoying 70s-80s pop and essentric alterantive indie and funk showcases the type of personality he has, especially considering the caped comics setting of the time.

I think the music we see Rip enjoying always being more experimental, unique, 50s-60s-70s rock/blues that display imperfections as part of the art is a direct parallel to who he is.

A favorite character of mine is Daja Kisubo from the Circle of Magic series, by Tamora Pierce. This series is about four children who are orphaned and brought to the Circle Temple to be raised, where it is discovered that they all have unusual magic that works through crafting or the elements, called ambient magic, and follows them as they grow and become some of the most powerful mages in the world.

Daja is a Black girl and a Blue Trader (ocean going) whose family died when their ship sunk in the storm.  Daja is the only survivor and so is considered bad luck and sent away to the Circle temple.  At the temple she meets the other three main characters who become her foster sisters and brother, and the two dedicates who become their foster mothers. She also discovers her own magic is in metal and fire and smithing when she meets her mentor, an older Black man and blacksmith, Frostpine.

Daja has always been my favorite because she's strong and steady for the outside world but with her new family and mentor you can see how deeply she feels and the love and support that she gets from them. Also she's so wildly powerful and makes such beautiful crafts and becomes such a good teacher when she's older (also I got my degree in metalworking/jewelry so now we have that in common).  

The series itself has such good world building and a really excellently fleshed out magic system. The first quartet, aimed at younger readers, features the main four as the children become a family, develop their powers, and start to heal the trauma that brought them to the temple in the first place, with Daja reuniting with the Trader people and being able to reestablish bonds, even as she stays with her temple family.

The second quartet has the kids splitting up as journeymen, traveling with their teachers to develop their skills. Each of them finds a mystery to solve and students to teach. Daja's students end up being two mixed Black girls (twins) who are very different and stretch both her patience and her own skills as she has to find separate ways to teach them (much to Frostpine's amusement), as well as solve the mysterious arson cases that are on the rise in town.

In the later books, as young adults, Daja and her siblings reunite and struggle to connect the way they did so easily when they were children. We also get to see her explore her sexuality and discover that she's a lesbian, which was so awesome when it came out and young me read it back in 2005.

These books and Daja especially have always been super important to me since I was a kid, and now honestly I've made myself need to go reread them. 

Hot Chocolate: BLACK WOMEN IN FANTASY LET'S GOOOOO! I always love to see this because they have just as much right to magical powers as everyone else dammit! Anyway this story sounds WONDERFUL, I might make it the next fiction book that I read with my mother, After we read Children of Virtue and Vengeance. Anywho, the story reminds me of one of the D&D campaigns I'm playing in where; 4 of us became foster siblings and are now supporting each other, while figuring out what's the deal with our essentric and powerful king. Not to mention figuring out our place in these positions of power. Daja sounds delightful, and her power set sounds like the Orisha Ogun. I love everything about this!
