A-T-3 146 Tony Humphries

Tony Humphries big break came in 1982 when he filled in for Shep Pettibone on his Kiss FM show in New York and becoming resident DJ at Club Zanzibar in New Jersey, he also started remixing for various labels A-T-2 021 (I didn't know this but Humphries remixed The Smurf A-T-2 164)

On to 1983

I've shared Tony Humphries biggest selling remix of 83 A-T-3 110 and yer man's most respected remix A-T-3 050 and Paul Simpson's also very fine Use Me Lose Me A-T-3 090. Here's some others Tony Humphries had a hand in that I love from that year

Evelyn "Champagne" King - Shake Down The "Champagne" is back after being dropped on the last two albums, her peak albums the ones Kashif was involved with. The follow up to the Get Loose album is Face To Face - the Leon Sylvers produced album. I've mentioned Sylvers before, he had a large production team, in 1983 he was coming from the S.O.S. Band where he'd passed on the reigns to Jam & Lewis and Reel To Real. Shake Down gathers in a lot of things that are going on in hip hop production, King sounds almost like Kelis, Tony Humphries remixes the Face To Face album version which I prefer to the M+M mixes on the 12"

Kinky Fox - So Different A Sure Shot Mix by Tony Humphries on The Sound Of New York label, the same label as Indeep. Produced by Auvil Gilchrist of Stone. Kinky Foxx were members of Jacques Fred Petrus's studio bands, playing on Change records, BB&Q, etc A-T-2 261

The Mobley Gang - Groove for you this is a rare one, it's a 'what's this?' question for the DJ track and I don't own a copy (yet!)

Mtume - Juicy Fruit (Fruity Instrumental Mix) the b-side of the 12" co-mixed by Tony Humphries, it's a beaut

it’s just. in the end it’s about family. it's about Camila pulling Eda into a hug because she took care of her baby. it’s about Hunter thinking he has no one looking for him only to find Darius over his shoulder. it’s about King’s dad telling Luz to tell King he loafs him. (it’s about Caleb falling in love with Evelyn, Philip betraying him for it.) it’s about Gus and Amity and Willow finding their dads. Vee graduating alongside Luz. The Collector being a lonely kid who was abandoned. 

Luz having her quinceañera on the Boiling Isles with everyone she loves around her. This show is about family.

a neat full-circle thing that the finale does is that belos gets curbstomped by a clawthorne, her lover and her child, when the first lives we see him ruin, chronologically speaking, was evelyn's, caleb's and their child's.

A-T-2 262 Kashif, Paul Laurence Jones, Morrie Brown

After the phenomenal success of I'm In Love Kashif, Paul Laurence Jones, Morrie Brown (Mighty M Productions) return to work on Evelyn King's fifth studio album Get Loose. Kashif writes and produces the big single off the album, the cassic Love Come Down

The same team write and produce Howard Johnson's debut solo album Keepin' Love New. Kashif writes the classic So Fine

They only produce six of the nine tracks on Melba Moore's The Other Side Of The Rainbow album. Kashif writes and produces Underlove. The single version gets an M+M mix, a special remix also appears on Morgan Khan's influential compilation series Street Sounds Volume 3 in 1983

They're finally here!

After the long wait, the standees are finally a reality!!! I've never made merch before so it's still kinda fresh for me, but they're very pretty and I'm happy to finally have them!!!

This batch was a test batch, so I don't have many of these, but once I figure some prices out and get things in order, I'll be planning to sell the extras. And If people like them, I'll order more next go round for those who missed out.

And if things go well, we'll see about future merch.

For now though, super excited!!
