Literally just me gushing about eurobeat
Y'know what? Tumblr, you get a little treat. I don't have much better of a place to post something long-winded like this, so here we are.
I love eurobeat music. Big surprise from the girl with it in her handle, right? But I don't just love one kind of eurobeat. No, I'd go so far as to say I love it all. This genre becomes an absolute buffet of delightful, energetic, silly fun when you forget about trying to look for ways it "doesn't count", and try to look for the ways it does.
I love early eurobeat! I love the stuff that's indistinguishable from early Italo Disco, the formative things where the tempo was still low and the disco vibes were still high! That's Eurobeat and the first few volumes of Super Eurobeat are great for this!
I love later eurobeat, too! Even if some of the sounds aren't always my favorites, I love that folks were trying new things and dabbling with new sounds, experimenting in ways that in previous years seemed prohibited! Comparing some aliases who have been going for multiple decades from this period to when they started is also super fun!
I love traditional eurobeat, if I could pick a name for it! Faster, more rave-influenced, whether or not it's still got some disco elements in it, themes about nightclubs and love and loss and betrayal and that ever-ubiquitous fire! Maharajah Night has some great examples, leading into the bulk of pre-200 Super Eurobeat volumes!
I love J-Euro! It turns out, folks in Japan have different ideas and tastes and approach the genre VERY differently than the folks in Italy do, and I love how it sounds! I love how the sound design is so different and the speed jumps a little higher!
I love indie eurobeat! I love hearing how new and amateur producers take a crack at the sound, and seeing what folks do as the tools for making it grow and evolve! Even virtual versions of the synths the masters used to use are available now, and it's fantastic to hear how those things sound in new hands! I love the ways indie producers bend, break, and work around the rules of the genre and still deliver a uniquely "eurobeat" experience! Without this category, I would never have found DJ Command, DJ Bouche, Turbo, Vikas Beatbox, the Galaxian Recordings crew, and so, so many more!
I love happy eurobeat! The nature of the genre makes it so straightforward to pair its signature energy with joy, delight, empowerment!
I love sad eurobeat! That very same energy that powers joy and happiness can be just as powerful for driving home sorrow and sadness, and some lyrics even carry strong emotional weight (we're well past the days of eurobeat being only about Burning Love Car Baby Fire Desire Tonight Drift Tokyo, y'know)!
I love fandom eurobeat! Yup! Vocaloid, Touhou, MLP:FiM, Vtubers; whatever you may be a fan of, chances are good there's a eurobeat remix out there (or even an original) that suits your fancy!
I love Initial D eurobeat! How could I not, right? The classics are classics for a reason, and eurobeat and drift racing are a uniquely fantastic pair. Of all the things eurobeat could be about, it's one of a few that really knock it out of the park!
I love feminine eurobeat! Masculine eurobeat is great too, but it already gets a lot of love in the other categories, so I want to celebrate those eurobeat songs that feel quite the opposite while still being perfectly eurobeat! Eurobeat is broad enough to express feelings like this, too!
I love songs that aren't quite eurobeat, but have elements of it! And I love eurobeat songs that heavily include elements from other genres, too! Eurobeat is like any other genre-- it has not always had the same chances to rub shoulders with other sounds in the dance space, but when it does, some wonderful things happen! And the whole music world is enriched for that cross-pollenation!
I love the songs I used to dislike! To think I'd go from vastly disliking Norma Sheffield's discography, to adoring it so fully! Disliking "Higher Higher More and More" to seeking it out from time to time! Not being fond of SAIFAM/BBB's style, to knowing some of its songs by heart!
And most of all, I love that I get to MAKE this stuff for a living! I do not take the fact that this could've not worked out trivially, and I hope I've rewarded your patiences well with a lot of new favorites and starting points for diving deeper into the genre over the last... almost 20 years, now!
And that's just the tip of the iceberg! I understand some eurobeat isn't to everyone's taste, but I think if you haven't tasted all that there is out there, you owe it to yourself to see how you feel about it. You might be pleasantly surprised!

𝐓𝐑𝐀 – FERMÍN LÓPEZ
Tumblr media
summary. going clubbing doesn’t go as planned when your brother’s rival shows up to ruin the fun
warnings. fermín x paz!reader, f!oral, semi public s3x, fingering, & a cocky!fermín.
a/n. my brain worked overtime on this tbh. poor fran i completely slandered him in this. based off tra by bad gyal (catalan it girl)
Tumblr media
the strobing lights were almost strong enough to blind you and half of the real madrid b squad. the dj seemed to be going through an existential crisis since he kept going back and forth between edm and reggaeton. you’re fortunate enough that he at least plays fiebre without remixing it or pausing it to try and drop a beat.
“joder.” your brother puffs clearly done with whoever he’s texting. (fuck.)
“is it the schedule?” you ask him wondering if this seasons schedule finally came out. it always got him worked up.
“no, this season seems like a good one. it’s just-” he sets his phone down before turning his head towards you.
“el boludo de agustin…” he takes a sip of his drink. he’s always been the most dramatic out of the two of you, clearly. (augustin’s dumbass.)
“nico, you already know that i’m not interested in him like that. he’s just my friend. ” you reassure him.
“no, i know and i don’t want to be an overbearing protective brother but mom would kill me if i let one of my teammates hurt you.” he sighs.
“nico i can take care of myself. don’t worry about me you’ve got a whole career ahead of you. focus on that instead.” you smile at him.
“i’m trying- joder” he scoffs again.
“now what?” you say concerned about the way his mood changed so quickly.
“look who just came in.” he nods towards the entrance.
you try to subtlety turn around but it’s almost impossible without doing a full 180 to see who your brother was talking about. your eyes immediately spot the three guys nico hated the most on the pitch. although out of all three of them only one stood out to you, fermín. you didn’t care for your brothers’ rivalries except for the one he had with the barcelona midfielder. not only did he bother nico but he bothered you as well. every time you were in barcelona he was always there with his annoying attitude.
“well, we are in their city.” you shrug trying to ignore their presence.
“there’s like a million other clubs here and out of all of them they arrive here it can’t be a coincidence.” he scoffs as if the three of the players had been following them.
“i’m not very fond of them either but you’re being ridiculous. we’re like ten minutes away from their training grounds i think it would be a coincidence that they’re here.” you explain logically.
“yeah what- you know what i’m just very stressed out about my whole nationality process right now. i’m gonna go get a drink. do you want anything?” he asks.
“no, it’s fine. just don’t indulge too much i do not want to take care of you again like in vigo.” you bring up the northern city into the conversation.
“you promised you wouldn’t bring that up again. that shit was so embarrassing.” he whines.
“i wasn’t the one who confessed their profound love for duki in his messages. i had to delete over ten voice notes of you singing, crying, and explaining why you’re better than emilia.” you burst out laughing.
“whatever, i’ll see you later.” he walked off.
you watched as your brother walked away either to find someone to flirt with or get another drink. he was the social sibling always outgoing and making friends as soon as he joined a new team. your house would always be full of people you hardly even knew. so you were surprised when his distaste for fermín began, your brother never held grudges. but then you met the devil himself and you realized why your brother disliked him.
he was arrogant, a total egomaniac, and an asshole. you remembered how nice he was to you when he first met you outside the stadium but as soon as he realized who’s sister you were he was always taunting you. you knew how serious rivalries were but you didn’t think it was that deep.
“hope your brother enjoyed my goal from the bench.” a voice interrupted your thoughts.
you look up to find him sitting in front of you replacing your brother. you’re studying his features when the chain around his neck distracts you. a cross. yet, he was somehow the worst person you knew. meanwhile, a smirk grows on his face as time passes and he realizes you’re not in a rush to get him to leave.
“milking a friendly today, are we?” you tease him.
“a friendly your brother spent at the bench the whole night.” he smirks.
“i’m starting to think you have a crush on my brother.” you laugh at him. “which probably explains why you always stalk my story every time we’re in town.”
“what are you talking about?” he scoffs at the accusation.
“felopez03? could you make it more obvious?” you manage to embarrass the barça player.
you had lied to your brother earlier. every time the two of you ran into fermín it was never a coincidence. you had debated on telling your brother about his secret admirer but quite frankly you loved the attention. you knew he always watched your stories when you were in town so you took advantage of that. posting pictures of yourself in short dresses, bikinis, and including some where the only thing covering your breasts were your hands. he always seemed to like those anyways.
“lópez is an extremely common last name.” he simply replies.
“good night fer.” you stood up and picked up your things.
“if you’re going to go like for your brother you won’t find him. saw him leave with a girl who looked very familiar. i think-” he paused debating on whether he should say what he was thinking. “i think i must’ve slept with her as well.”
you simply roll your eyes not wanting to be the victim of his ego. you check your phone and surely enough there’s a message from your brother. you can’t believe he’s left you alone with his teammates and the egomaniac to get laid.
nico 🐣: don’t wait up on me fran will take you home.
y/n: you left me alone to get laid? i hope she bites your dick off.
you shove your phone into your bag and begin looking around for fran. you spot the defender near the bar with a few of his teammates. you’ve avoided him for almost a month and the last thing you wanted tonight was to talk to him. the barça player seems to notice that too because as soon as you start walking towards fran he steps in front of you. you try to push him out of the way but he’s too strong.
“fer-” you sigh exhausted at his antics.
it all happens in a quick blur one minute you’re trying to shove fermin out of the way and the next you’re completely drenched in vodka. you’re not even sure how it happens but the girl in front of you is currently rambling about how sorry she was. you were a bit annoyed that the top you had just bought was now ruined but you could always borrow your brother’s card again.
“it’s okay. it’s fine don’t worry.” you try to calm her down because somehow she’s more upset about the situation than you are.
as soon as she leaves you head towards the bathroom hoping to dry off your shirt. you don’t realize that fermín has followed you into the bathroom until he shuts the door.
“what are you doing here?” you scoff.
“she spilled half of her drink on me too. must’ve tripped or something.” he murmured.
“and you came to dry your shirt in the women’s restroom?” you ask dumbfounded.
“well i can’t exact leave you alone in a bar full of strangers.” he shrugs.
“i know more than half of the people here.” you complain.
“yeah and they’re not exactly looking out for you. nico asked fran to take care of you and as far as i know he hasn’t come looking for you yet.” he bites back.
you murmur a quick ‘whatever’ before focusing on your top again. it’s completely wet from top to bottom so you have no other option but to take it off. you completely forget about fermín’s presence when you start walking around the restroom with your black lace bra and mini skirt. fermín tries his best to look away, to be respectful for once but you leave him in a trance. the view you give him is all too much and he decides to do something about it.
“here. it’s almost dry anyways.” he takes his shirt off and offers it to you.
your eyes linger on his toned body for too long you practically have to force yourself to look away. the dirty blonde finds himself smirking at your reaction. he walks closer to you hoping you’ll accept his peace offering. it begins to drive him mad how beautiful you look you in your current state. if he hadn’t been such a prick to you for the last couple of years maybe it’d be him taking you home and not fran. besides fran wouldn’t know what to do with all that.
you look at him again and throw your inhibitions out the window. your brother is the one who hates him on and off the pitch but not you. maybe just on the pitch but right now you were in a club bathroom without tops on. if your brother could have fun why couldn’t you?
“fer?” you turn around to look at him directly.
“hmm?” he puts his arm down realizing you won’t take his shirt.
“do you think i’m pretty?” you bat your eyelashes innocently.
he pauses not knowing how to respond. of course you looked pretty but he couldn’t exactly say that out loud. not if he wanted to keep up with the banter the two of you had. it would ruin the dynamic.
“it’s fine you don’t have to answer i’ll just go and ask fran.” you fake being upset and head for the door before fermín steps in front of you again.
“you can’t go out like that.” he panics.
“why? don’t you like my bra?” you tease him.
“joder tía pero tú estás loca.” he sighs frustrated. (fuck, you’re crazy.)
“i mean you’re the one who’s been liking all my stories. especially the ones where i leave little to the imagination.” you reach behind your back and unclasp your bra letting it hit the floor. you’re too far gone now. “you seem to really likes the ones where my breasts are showing though.”
he bites his lips trying to avoid his eyes from wondering. he can practically feel his pants getting tighter the closer you got to him. it was as if the room got smaller and ten times hotter. he’d always been so cocky with his hookups but you somehow made him lose his confidence. but then you said someone else’s name and he suddenly gained his ego back.
“do you think if i asked fran to fuck me he’d say yes?” was the question that threw him off.
his demeanor changed in an instant and suddenly he needed you right there in that bathroom. he knew you were probably just teasing him but he wasn’t going to lose you, not to fran at least.
“he’d probably finish in his pant just by seeing your tits and you’d go home upset.” you didn’t realize how much little space was left between the two of you until you saw both his arms on the sink. you were stuck between the sink and his shirtless body. “he’ll never satisfy you.”
“and you would?” you test his patience.
his hand finds its way onto your thigh and you realize you’ve finally gotten what you wanted. as your breath hitches his hand trails up and the look on his face proved he wanted this as much as you did. he pauses once he gets to your clothed core and looks up at you. you realize he’s asking for permission. you trail your hand down your body to where his hand is and carefully move your panties to the side.
“joder.” he groans at the sight. this is definitely not how he expected his night to go.
“fer.” you whine wanting him to touch you already.
his hands creeps up your throat you can feel his fingers getting closer to your lips. you know what he wants you to do so you open your mouth taking in two of his fingers. he watches intently as you suck on them making them wet enough to enter you. he takes a mental screenshot of you not wanting to forget about this moment. when you finally stop he places his fingers on your thigh again, teasing you. he’s gotten his ego back.
“fuck, you’re so wet.” he can feel the blood rushing to his dick as you you spread your legs for him.
you want to tell him to shut up and hurry up due to how needy you are but he finally drags his fingers over your core. a wave of pleasure rings through your body as he finally touches you. he circles your clit before dragging his fingers down to where you needed him the most. he enters you with one finger first thrusting it slowly letting you adjust. the room is filled with your incoherent moans and your acrylics dig into his free hand.
“oh, fuck.” is all you can say as he enters his second finger.
his thrusts begin to gain momentum as he sees how much you’re enjoying it. the feeling of having your walls squeeze his fingers is so surreal and he can’t resist the urge of reaching up to kiss you. the first kiss is long and sweet but as soon as you start kissing him back it gets heated. soon the kisses become short and needy and you can barely breathe between them. he grabs you by the hair pulling it to get better access to your neck and the pain turns into pleasure as he curls his fingers inside of you.
fermín expects you to tell him to not leave marks but you can’t help but want him to bite down on your neck. he leaves short peppered kisses on your neck before sucking and biting making sure that tomorrow you’ll have to hide your neck from your brother. he hears you panting and knows you’re getting close to coming undone. your hands run through his hair tugging on the strands as you get closer to your high.
and then suddenly you feel empty. his fingers are no longer thrusting inside of you and he pulls away from your lips. you’re about to yell at him when he kneels down in front of you and your eyes go wide. he spreads your legs further apart placing one on each shoulder. you can feel his breathe on your core and you’re not exactly sure you’re ready for what’s to happen. one lick is enough to make your head go back and your legs tremble.
his hold on your thighs get stronger and he dived in deeper. you pull on his hair harder each time he gets closer to your hole, clearly teasing you. he sucks on your clit and that’s enough to have you screaming out of pleasure. your moans are enough to raise his confidence and he brings his fingers back and enters you once again. his tongue and fingers are too much, he’s overstimulating you. you can feel your high approaching once again. this time he doesn’t stop he keeps going. he wants to see you reach your high.
“gonna cum all over my fingers?” he teases.
“fuck, yes.” you gasp barely having the strength to speak properly.
he somehow manages to go faster and you know you’re only a couple of thrusts away from cumming. then he adds in another finger and you’re a moaning mess. your juices squirt all over his fingers and pulls them out of you. he drags your fingers back towards your lips and you grant him access again. you lick them tasting yourself before he kisses you again. it’s a slow sensual kiss and then it happens you spot something moving in the background from the corner of your eye.
“fran.” you gasp at the sight of your brother teammates standing in the back shocked at the scene he walked into.
“what?” fermín pulls away confused at the sudden burst of fran’s name. that’s when he spots fran in the mirror and instead of being ashamed he can’t help but smirk.
that is until you push him off of you and fix yourself. you grab fermín’s shirt without a second thought and fix your skirt embarrassed about being caught and by fran of all people. fran’s disappointment is visible but you really don’t care about his feelings at the moment but rather about whether or not he’ll tell your brother.
“my shirt!” fermín yells.
“you’re a man you can walk around without a shirt.” you say as you get your purse from the sink.
fran walks out not wanting to witness more of what he’s already seen. you have no choice but to follow him since he was your designated driver for the night. but once again fermín steps in front of you and stops you from leaving. he leans down and kisses you and you can’t help but kiss him back.
“next time leave the bodyguard at home.” is all he tells you before stepping aside letting you leave.
that night you fell asleep in his shirt. you’re definitely looking forward to the next game your brother has in barcelona.

tek8 is only like 21 days away and i'm once again thinking what that will mean for this blog and my portrayal. obviously, this is quite the canon divergent blog. i obvs reject the tek6 story hard. and as of now, i say, during tek8, jin does indeed feel guilty and is trying to "redeem" himself. but not because he actually... did the war, but because he felt that devil was his responsibility, and it was his weakness that caused everything to get so bad. he also feels bad for not being able to help much during most of the war due to being Absent / recovering. jin also feels guilty because he had his chance to kill kaz earlier on, but chose not to. jin feels guilty because of the choices he made or didn't make, but he holds no actual responsibility in the war, no matter what he thinks.
the tek8 story looks like tek6 is probably gonna be heavily ingrained in it. right now, with the little we got, i can continue on with my portrayal with ease. however, i do fear that once it comes out, the story will make it harder for me to continue writing jin way the i do. i fear it might make some changes that will be difficult to say "oh, that doesn't happen in my depiction" or "it happened like that."
there's also dj. dj's been in the games since jin has. but... we haven't seen as much of dj in the main story. mostly when concerning the devil gene, we just see jin wanting to get rid of it, rather than him dealing with the devil itself. this makes it easy for me to say exactly how i envision jin and dj's dynamic, why, and how i like it to play out. i have a very specific idea of what dj precisely is, and what he is to jin. since this is dj's first major role in the story, it could be that dj's depiction could be drastically different than what i envision. of course, so far as we've seen, i've been really enjoying him. but i just have a feeling, even if he's actually BEEN separate from jin and treated mostly like a different entity in 8, i fear he will, in the end, be symbolism of "jin's sins." this feels apparent by two facts. 1) again, tek6 and jin's "redemption" from it feels like it's gonna be heavily ingrained in the game. 2) if you really look at dj's design, it definitely feels like it's heavily inspired by jin's tek6 design with the long jacket, and the floral(?) design on his vest. which, in my blog, i just say that's bc dj is obvs the one responsible for the war, and that's just his fashion tastes. but i have a feeling the game is gonna say otherwise.
finally, the potential rise in the tekrpc. ofc, i WANT the tekrpc to get bigger, and a lot of times with new game releases, its rpc becomes more active, even if just temporary for the hype. i fear with more new blogs, comes new people who may not agree with my depiction or being canon divergent. there seem to be a lot of canon blogs who love to follow what happens in the story. and if ppl are excited by the new game, they might not like that i alter the story because i personally wasn't happy with my muse's depiction in it. of course, this is nothing but my own anxiety, but i can't help but fear this may happen...
now the game isn't my story, and i'm not saying i'm gonna write about a thousand rants if it doesn't go the way i want it to. (unless it is just genuinely bad regardless of what it does). but i just feel no matter what the game does, i will always dislike tek6. tek6 will always feel like a mistake (regarding jin at least) that should've never happened. i don't think i'll ever acknowledge it in my canon, even if tek8 is the most well written beautiful "redemption" story ever. jin will never have the deaths of thousands, potentially millions on his hands. nope. it's just not gonna happen. plus, i'm pretty happy with how i have written jin and dj's dynamic. i'm happy with how i've written dj's role in tek6, that it'll just be hard for me to change it. but i do worry it'll be even harder for me to keep it this way with the new game.
hopefully! i'll love everything in the new game, and it won't make it too difficult for me to keep my depiction the way it is! :]

ice crew and drago headcanons
Lots of text. My native language is Ukrainian, I apologize for the clumsy text :') Warning: This is a somewhat dark and disturbing portrayal of the characters.
Age ranges from 16 to 19 years. Drago 20-21.
"Well, you creepy, aggressive, unsocialized bastard… Welcome to the family, D!!" © Ice.
dj fist
He knows the sign language of the deaf and dumb and often pretends to be such in order to avoid unwanted communication.
The most phlegmatic and balanced guy, most of the time staying on his own wave. They joke about him that if you look closely, you can even see a halo above his head. But if you piss him off very much, you need to run away very quickly, because maybe someone's legs will be broken now. Once, the Fist smashed the hood of a car, throwing a guy against it. And then he tried to catch up with him to apologize for being too rude. That was the first time Ice saw someone running so fast with a broken leg.
He bursts into anger instantly, but calms down just as quickly. There is a lot of suppressed aggression in it, which, if it explodes, will hook everyone who is nearby.
Jay is a quiet person, reserved, with a high emotional sensitivity. Basically, he is quite timid and shy. Jay aromantic. He is a Christian, so on the wrist of one hand he has chains with several small crosses wound around him. His family was very religious. He is Spanish and jokingly calls Drago "diablo" (devil).
He dislikes noisy crowds and sudden touches. It takes a long time to get used to someone new and relax enough in their presence. Therefore, he avoided Drago for a long time, maintaining a distance and not talking to him. Drago was, in principle, more than satisfied.
When their company wanders around the city, Jay always walks a little behind, feeling calm when he sees everyone and no one is behind him. When he first turned around to check where Drago had gone when he fell behind, it was a sign that Jay had accepted Drago.
He suffers from mutism, due to which he can only talk with a very limited number of people who are really close to him and whom he trusts. But against the background of stress, again, it can lose the ability to speak. He mainly communicates through gestures, especially after Drago appeared in their company. Cobra and Ice understand him well even without words. If Drago is nearby, Jay speaks in whispers or gestures.
He likes heavy rock music - it calms him down.
Jay is left-handed. As a child, he was forced to learn to use his right hand. As a teenager, he has both hands equally.
He is an independent person who does not get upset because of the lack of a partner. As a child, Jay faced coldness and rejection from guardian adults too early, because of which there is no need for attention and care - he stopped waiting for it. The need for intimacy leads to frustration, so it's easier to do without it. Instead, he prefers soulless, cold machines. The technology is silent. He especially loves motorcycles. He has one that he and Cobra have been trying to fix for a long time. He named the motorcycle Ginger, and for the first time he lost his temper and cursed loudly when Drago broke it.
He is a very strong introvert with social phobic tendencies and a high level of anxiety. Perhaps Kobra is the only one to whom he allows himself to be touched and fought in a playful way, and even then not always. He is thoughtful and organized. While the rest will argue, he will go and silently do it. He seems very cold and uninterested in what is happening around him, but he is a very gentle person, this cannot be confused with weakness.
He is the only one in the company who feels physical discomfort from the presence of Drago, due to the fact that that demon and in general treats Drago with suspicion and anxiety. Ice suspects that because the Fist is simply adequate. And also because Drago destroys his religious ideas.
He was against the presence of Drago in the company, considering him dangerous and (fuck, you both idiots? what is THAT ?!) but suffered in silence, trying to make sure that the situation did not get out of control.
At school, he played American football professionally, because his family wanted and insisted that. This rough and contact sport put him under a lot of social pressure. He was expected to be in a certain role and was a very promising player. He himself hated it and once deliberately broke his leg so that he would be left alone for at least a while. Now he sometimes limps when he is tired or nervous. At such moments, a group of friends slows down to wait for him. Usually Cobra notices it first.
Relatively good, against the background of other examples, relations with his mother, but they do not communicate now. Draws well. Street artist. He also depicts in his notebook the details for working with technology and those people who he likes. After a while, when he got used to Drago (and Drago himself became a little more adequate and socialized), he also drew him. His jacket is also painted with emoticons, symbols and other nonsense.
Jay was the one who emotionally broke down and punched Drago in the face when he insulted his mother. Drago was then poorly versed in what topics it is better not to touch on and joked evilly, trying to imitate the general topic of conversation.
(Ice: Sit down, fucking, both of you! We don't kill each other, damn, just one rule. ONE, and you're even failing here!)
He covers the lower part of his face with a bandana up to his eyes: this way he feels calmer and more confident. Safer. He also uses gloves to minimize touching people. Before he had a bandana, he experienced difficulty and stiffness when communicating with people, trying to cope with emotions. During one of the general parties (when their trio was not yet fully formed), Cobra noticed that the Fist was uncomfortable. Some guys briefly mentioned in a conversation that Jay was some kind of "frostbitten" and hearing this, he tensed even more. After that, Cobra immediately got up, disappeared somewhere for a short time, took the bandana from an unknown person and handed it to Jay. That helped.
He has a peculiarity during certain stressful situations to "disconnect" from what is happening around him, as if nothing is happening. You can even dismember someone before his eyes at such moments, he will not notice. This creates its own problems, because at the moments when Cobra can have another suicidal incident, Ice has to deal with it himself. However, Fist can provide emotional support on a lighter and more unobtrusive level, and in the very first situation where Cobra had a minor nervous breakdown, he showed Ice how to support a person. In the future, he tries not to do this, being very exhausted from such situations.

In childhood and adolescence, his emotions and desires were devalued. The environment inspired him that everything he experienced was wrong, as a result of which he felt a ban on emotions. So Jay protected himself with emotional coldness and covered his face with a cloth. Feels vulnerable without her. The family was very demanding of him, so he used to be perfect. While in the company, he is mostly silent and enjoys this pastime. Jay is a good listener, and according to Ice, one of the most interesting people he has ever met. Of course, when he wants to talk.
strikemaster ice
Ice psychopath.
He is a shrewd and extremely calculating shitass. He is cunning, cruel and can get out of any shit without any problems. He adapts easily. He is good at manipulating people and finding a common language with everyone, which is why he is so easy to keep with Drago on an equal footing. He makes fun of Drago, waiting for a response and shamelessly grinning. He speaks calmly, touches without fear. And he always very subtly felt the necessary dangerous edge, before which he had to slow down and back away without causing a wave of rage.
Drago is more tolerant of him than the others because Ice doesn't try to please him. On the contrary, he behaved like an uncompromising asshole. To be completely honest, Ice even impressed him, as far as it is generally possible in relation to people. Therefore, Drago treated most of the annoying things in his performance by an order of magnitude more indulgent. Yes, and his cigarettes stank differently, less caustic than Cobra's. Ice also never played staring with him. Drago was sure, understood their deep meaning. Therefore, he consciously avoided the conflict. Because I wouldn't look away. So many familiar qualities Drago felt in him.
He is indifferent to people, except for a few. To the inner social circle, he developed a semblance of emotional attachment. To the rest of the world, people whom he does not consider his own - absolute ruthlessness.
Pyromaniac. He carries a lighter with him everywhere and loves to watch the fire. He is fascinated by Drago's ability to control fire. Like Drago, Aisa laughs at violence and their sense of humor is quite similar.
Ice's parents were lawyers. He had a fairly wealthy and respected family, which Ice voluntarily abandoned in favor of life on the street, wandering aimlessly around the world. They demanded a lot from him, completely controlling his life, regardless of his opinion, interests and desires. In this he is similar to Drago, and on this basis they felt solidarity with each other.
Ice has a younger sister. Their parents did not leave them alone when, at the age of four, Ice began to frighten them with his behavior and lack of the necessary reactions, at that time he had not yet had time to learn the rules of social interaction. Ice is skeptical about this as he would never hurt his sister because…why would he do that? It doesn't make any sense. As a child, Ice wanted a pet snake. Accidentally killed a house cat. Then he was presented with a hamster, in the hope of accustoming him to responsibility and care for a living creature. When he died of natural hamster death, the parents discreetly replaced him with a similar live hamster, not knowing that the son was already aware of Peanut's death. Surprised that the hamster suddenly "came to life", trying to understand the phenomenon of life and death, Ice killed the next Mr. Peanuts until they found out about it. In principle, he is glad that this was noticed before his experiments would have moved to larger objects - the neighbor's kids.
After his parents watched the movie "The Good Son" they finally had a tantrum. From an early age, Ice often visited psychiatrists who were not the most competent and quickly learned to deceive them. With the same success, sometimes he managed to pretend to take preparation when his parents noticed oddities in his behavior and tried to cure him in this way. Because of this, Ice developed an allergy. Once he was in a psychiatric hospital and even visited church several times. For Ice, these establishments seem the same. His parents wanted him to continue the family tradition and also become lawyers. It was boring for him. The only plus: he knows the laws well. Instantly puts on the right "mask" at the sight of the cops.
When Ice realized that he was tired of pretending, he began to rebel and eventually left the house to hang out on the streets. Periodically, he appears at very rare family gatherings, as this is part of his contract with his parents. They failed to cope with him, because there were absolutely no levers of pressure on Ice. And to some extent, his stubborn father still believes that they are punishing him like that and that Ice "will walk a little and do nonsense, understand that it's terrible and the world is terrible, and repentantly return home on his own" But Ice is cool and he is absolutely everything satisfied.
He had chickenpox - there were scars on his face.
He laughs when he is called a maniac and stereotypes about psychopaths in general.
Ice is a very loyal and reliable friend if he thinks you are worthy of his attention. He has cognitive empathy, his own code of conduct. He has a peculiar concept of love and he can go a much more complicated and long way with you than a typical person.
Unless he is upset if you suddenly die. If you are loyal to him, that loyalty will be mutual. He's invested in this relationship and he'll kill anyone who threatens you. Literally. He doesn't have to wear masks in front of his friends, and he appreciates that. He protects those who care about him, those whom he qualifies as: 'mine'.
Gay. He said this during a family dinner at Christmas to annoy conservative parents and relatives, and then it turned out that he was not joking. Ice found out that he was actually gay during one of his fights with his cousin and a specific body reaction during it. Then they broke his nose, because he thought from surprise and was distracted, but he does not regret it.
Usually Cobra jokingly calls him a slut. Ice often changes partners, essentially having fun with short flings. He likes older guys and "plays normal" by pretending to be someone else he isn't. Then he uses his real name, not a nickname. In general, Ice and Cobra call each other a lot and frankly in friendly skirmishes, which in turn confuses Drago. Drago generally does not understand well when people actually swear, fight or flirt, and when they are fooling around.
He is characterized by complete fearlessness, violation of rules and prohibitions. Dulled nervous system. Ice has a very high pain threshold due to a stable autonomic system. Smart enough to mask his destructive behavior. Emotionally poor, but some things cause him a strong emotional reaction, although he is good at controlling these short impulses.
He tries to control facial expressions (his face does not express anything, and his eyes are distant) and almost always smiles in order to win people over and so that Cobra does not get nervous. At the first meeting, Cobra was frightened by the fact that Ice had a fixed and very attentive look. Without blinking or looking away, he looked into his eyes for a long time, refraining from talking and simply observing, evaluating. Sometimes it happens that Ice forgets what emotion he should portray: if you tell him a terrible story from life, his face will remain cold and insensitive until he catches himself and gives out the proper reaction.
Very vengeful, never forgives. If Ice has more important needs, he satisfies those first. He will not take revenge if he did not set it as a purposeful goal, but he will remember the offender.
In a conflict situation, he feels comfortable. Extreme situations are his comfort zone.
Drago noticed that Ice was different from other people. He never changed the rhythm of the heartbeat, pulse, breathing rate. It reacts to extreme situations where it should have been frightened, only with aggression or complete composure.
Cunning, smart and rational to the point of cynicism. Self-confident, able to ingratiate himself in a matter of seconds. It scans a person and understands where you need to agree with him, and where to smile, and where to flatter, and where to support.
He wears social masks and gives the right reaction for any psychotype. A large file of emotional reactions accumulated over the years. Periodically, Ice looks at Fist and asks with a look what kind of emotional reaction he should give out. Cobra is inadequate, Ice would not ask his opinion on this matter.
Hates sweets, but loves licorice. Cobra is horrified by this, since licorice is terribly not tasty and can only be liked by very inadequate people, according to Cobra.
He has a pronounced propensity for dominance, but does not like being in charge of anything too much.
He developed dyscalculia (which I think is the canon of the series, because he finds it difficult to calculate the simplest arithmetic example. As a person with dyscalculia, I will say that I saw a kindred spirit in him at that moment).
He is severely motion sick on the subway until he vomits and these are the only moments of weakness that he allows himself.
He believes that ideals do not exist, and that all generally accepted standards do not make sense. Therefore, the brain melts that it is impossible to reach them. And you don't need them, these ideals, really. Here, Ice met with Drago on the grounds that Shendu crushed his son under his template, imposing his way of thinking, dreams and expectations on him. From the very childhood, he laid down the installations and formed them within his own framework.
Ice likes Drago, but he is still wary of him, making sure that Drago's conflicts with other members of their small party do not develop into something serious and gets into a showdown in time.
Ice is also the one who manages to calm Cobra when he has another nervous breakdown.
He smokes marijuana, which is why he is always so casually calm. He likes alcohol, against which background conflicts arise with Cobra, who despises alcohol and is generally afraid of drunk people.
Ice likes to participate in underground fights, getting paid for it, because he is a good fighter and knows that he can beat almost anyone in a fight. So far, he has never lost.
Ice collects animal skulls and teeth. Once they dug up a corpse in the cemetery so that Drago would get the ingredients for the spell and Ice would take skull. Sometimes he jokingly says that he likes Drago's skull. Cobra does not exclude the possibility that Ice would dismember Drago and take his skull if he suddenly died.
Based on Cobra's words, Ice has already killed people. The first time it happened was when he was attacked by a local maniac. Ice doesn't feel pain, so getting stabbed gives him the advantage of surprise. He has his own philosophy about the alpha predator. As a rule, if he is threatened, for a start, Ice makes a "warning shot" that it is better not to mess with him, and if everything is really bad and he feels real danger, he eliminates the source of the threat without a drop of regret. Ice took the tooth of that person as a trophy for himself.
Usually he neglects his own safety and the safety of others, not thinking about the consequences. However, if he likes a person, he can literally kill for him. Therefore, he has his own "list" of people whom he eliminates in one way or another (not necessarily killing) in order to protect Cobra or avenge him. Cobra is still upset and doesn't understand why one of his friends committed suicide. In that situation, Ice was the one who harassed and harassed this man, due to the fact that he almost drove Cobra to suicide.
In a situation where Drago complained about how tired he was of the Chans and especially Jackie Chan, one of the suggestions that came out was from Ice: "Well … can I kill him then?" to which, in turn, Cobra reacted aggressively and negatively, recalling that Ice swore that there would be no more killings. To which Ice already reminded that he was a liar. Cobra's option was to accuse Jackie of molesting minors by posing as a victim. And Jay generally ignored it and painted.
Speaking of which, I really liked one expression that I once heard from a psychopath (not personally, I don’t know this person) It will not be verbatim, but the general essence is preserved: "It's not true that we have empathy. I like people, but I like them like a cool tea set or a cool pet. These things are valuable to me. But if they break, I will not feel sorry for them, but myself, because I lost them, and not because this person died. I may not understand why you can be scared if I beat your offender so hard that he does not dare to harm you anymore. I do not understand such deep things, and emotions on the surface are too mechanical. But I care about you, if you are of value to me, I want you to be safe and feel good." And I see Ice just like that.
Drago realizes that Ice is more dangerous than the rest and perceives him as a direct competitor to his authority.
Ice is the only one in the company who really knows martial arts (his parents sent him to Thai boxing so that he could find where to spend his energy) A very good and dangerous fighter, but at one time his first worthy opponent was Kobra, who was used to fighting in a street and almost animal style " fight or die": dirty, fast and in every possible way. The Сobra bit him hard on the palm and tore his cheek with his teeth, and also broke his eyebrow, leaving a visible scar.
In general, Ice and Cobra fight a lot as friends to fool around.
Drago is annoyed that Ice has a lot of different stupid words in his speech and how careless he is, so he was very surprised when, left alone, Ice spoke to him normally. Usually alone with Drago, he switches to coherent speech.
Ice has a reserved style of clothing. Army boots, a cloak with a hood - specially torn and darned again, covered with stripes.
He has a habit of giving nicknames to his friends and not giving their nicknames when talking about them to other people. Therefore, Cobra is a weirdo / mad dog, Jay is a frostbitten hippie, and Drago is a psycho dinosaur.
"Ice… he's not bad! He's not evil and doesn't rejoice in other people's suffering. He just doesn't understand them. Not everyone understands him either." - © Cobra.
mc cobra
Stable cruelty formed an unstable personality.
Cobra has an emotionally unstable personality disorder (borderline type). It is also borderline personality disorder (BPD), teetering on the verge of turning into schizophrenia over time under adverse conditions. In addition to the advanced form of the disease, Cobra is very, very unstable for many reasons.
He got his nickname because of his demeanor: calmness can turn into aggression and attack at any unpredictable moment. Doesn't remember his name or his own age, thanks to his memory blocking most of his negative memories. Sometimes his memory is "overloaded" and he recalls passages from his childhood. He usually has a brief episode of tantrums afterwards.
Forked "snake" tongue (split tongue), artificially pointed fangs and craving for black eyeliner. He carries a knife, but he never used it to hurt someone. Only to himself. He doesn't use a knife in fights. A lot of bracelets on his hands - he collects as a reminder of the friends who gave them to him. I received my first bracelet when the older guy noticed how he hides scars behind his sleeve and gave him his bracelet. In fact, he is gray-haired (due to the huge amount of stress he suffered in childhood), so he dyes his hair in bright colors and periodically changes its length. He does not allow anyone to touch his hair except Ice, or if some girl wants to comb his hair, it makes him laugh. He constantly smokes, smoking several packs a day, calming down in this way. Drago doesn't like the smell of smoke so he tries to throw out his cigarettes.
"What is this rubbish?" "What are you, a cop?"
He has restless fingers. If the Cobra does not smoke, then he simply twirls something in his hands, sorts out his hair, knuckles, or strokes his wrists. Constantly something chews: apples or lollipops. Almost always, he taps his foot and jerks his head, quickly tilting it to his shoulder when he is especially nervous, which causes his neck to hurt. (it will really hurt if you jerk your head from the slightest nervous excitement, it’s an unpleasant thing, I don’t recommend it :)) Curiously, Cobra never gets nervous around Drago.
The same cheerful dude in the company who jokes a lot (at the same time, about death and other terrible things), laughs hysterically as if for the last time in his life. Looks a little crazy. Pretend stupidity hides an extremely lively and sharp mind. He thinks it's better for people to think you're dumber than you really are - if people underestimate you, then you'll always have an advantage.
It seems that he is absolutely not afraid of anything and no one, fitting into all possible adventures.
Cobra is talking. A lot. Everything at once and nothing at the same time. With all the desire that was not there, Drago would not have been able to follow this stormy stream of chaotic thoughts. He just learned not to delve into and maintain a distance.
Cobra had habit of touching the interlocutor while chatting, shoving him in the most sophisticated ways, trying to grab his arm or shoulder with enviable stubbornness. Look into eyes, make sure that he is being listened to. His manner was impetuous and impatient.
He is extremely friendly, very talkative and friendly. Usually tries to be closer to people and physically clings to them, may begin to bite from an excess of positive emotions. Therefore, if you do not know him, it is hard to expect a sudden aggressive reaction from him. Cobra has a bad reputation as an extremely dangerous and psychotic asshole. At first, when he and Ice first met, Cobra's condition was much worse than now, when friends have learned to regulate his condition a little. And although he very sincerely sought to communicate, the rest of the teenagers were afraid of him. In fact, only Ice can be with him for a long time and not react negatively to any of his antics and mood swings. Periodically, Cobra may begin to cry or hysteria, catching an insignificant trigger and when his nervous system is overloaded.
He loves trouble and often draws others into the adventure, due to his extremely unstable emotional behavior and dangerous rash antics. Very empathic and sensitive, but at the same time very emotional and impulsive.
A stressful childhood is the sponsor of a good sense of humor in adolescence!
He can be called the soul of the company, a cheerful and sociable guy, but inside he has a real hell. He's in a lot of pain, he's in a lot of pain. His smile is a protective grin. He laughs because of terrible things, but at any second he is ready to cry. Drago sees inside him a huge black hole and does not realize what it is and what to do with it. Drago knows how to feel the emotions of people, and at first did not understand why he "hears" screams or requests for help, although everyone is calm or even laughing.
("The world is a bastard place and I along with it. How the hell does it hurt. I can't take it anymore. Help, please, someone, I beg you".)
Very tactful and respectful towards girls. It will be enough if someone on the street emits an obscene whistle and confuses the girl with this, Cobra will silently turn around and break his face. Likes to refer to girls as "missy" as a diminutive form of the word "miss". Despite the general instability, in certain things he is as safe as possible and will be the person who, at a general party, sits next to a sleeping girl and patiently waits until she comes to her senses. Those who know about this can specifically go to bed next to him if they feel anxious, but they want to sleep, but they don’t leave the party. Among those who know Cobra, this is called "taking the safest place in the house next to the most dangerous who is in it"
Cobra is sharpened for survival. He is like a fighting dog who has learned to survive on the streets. Therefore, few people contact him if we understand who he is dealing with. Cobra is frankly inadequate. He is called a "mad dog" because of his demeanor, his habit of biting (during fights or when he likes someone). He became very attached to Ice and keeps him a dog's devotion, at first he literally followed him everywhere. Ice uses him a little, but appreciates him. For many, it is strange that they were able to make friends, especially considering that Cobra is wary of gays. In the circle of a large company, they made bets on how it would all end, when Cobra began to follow Ice everywhere and seek his attention. Cobra can be overprotective, so at first he would react aggressively to any joke towards Ice that he could consider offensive, but Ice managed to stop him easily.
Kobra has a heightened sense of justice, but is very easy to manipulate, which Ice takes advantage of.
You don't have to try hard to please him. As Ice noted, he is like a dog that will follow whoever pets it. Strong tactile hunger and the desire to be closer to a person as a compensatory mechanism for loneliness. Drago characterizes him as an energy vampire.
He likes dry dog food. He always has dog snacks in his backpack to feed them. Sometimes he spends time in a guy's workshop helping him fix cars and gets some money for it, although he always tries to refuse them. In fact, he just likes to spend time with that man, perhaps this is the only adult who does not cause rejection in Cobra. He generally does not know how to trust adults.
In childhood and adolescence, Kobra faced unwanted attention from adults and observed this in other people's examples.
("Have you ever been invited to the basement to play with kittens?” "I don't like animals. And I have brains". - Ice. "Hey, I know my worth! If there is at least not a puppy, then we have nothing to talk about. You didn't have a childhood at all." "Yeah, I always dreamed of being called to the basement, and now I'm taller than them, and no one else is calling." "I'm your mom's friend from work, I'll give you a ride home, blah blah blah. In short, sometimes I even got chocolates and managed to escape. They are idiots, they think children are stupid. God, I love those times! It was fun. And now we just fuck them. It's sad when you're past the age of cuteness. They don't even need you anymore." … "sometimes he scares me".
"Sometimes?")
A successful pickpocket and sometimes for fun steals some little things from Drago, passing by and accidentally "pushing". Cobra generally touches friends all the time, even if you just pass by at an accessible distance.
Cobra is a child with high neurotic sensitivity and high intelligence, who was not lucky enough to be born in a very aggressive environment. Since childhood, he actually survived, constantly being in a state of stress, tension and readiness for defense: at home and on the street. Everything frightens him, the world around him is evil and dangerous. He is quite gentle and loving, but the disease destroys his life and makes the life of everyone who is close enough to him a living hell. He experiences a sudden and strong emotional reaction to any minor stimuli. Prone to impulsive, aggressive, and self-destructive behavior due to constant boredom and feelings of emptiness within. Left alone with himself, he is devoured by emptiness and horror from the inside, and he does various rash acts to fill the hole inside himself and drown out these feelings, thus relieving tension and unloading the nervous system. Cobra fills the silence with dancing, loud music, fights and relationships.
He is very afraid of being stuck in one of his bad states forever, so he made Ice swear to him that Ice will kill him if he realizes that everything is too bad and Cobra goes crazy.
Inclinations to self-harm are manifested, which is expressed in knocked down knuckles, the desire to cut oneself on the forearm with something. Gnawing on his knuckles and putting out cigarettes on his palm. Hides scars under bracelets. Sometimes he is overcome by prolonged hysterical laughter. He hates himself when he takes it out on people close to him.
Cobra has no internal brakes and protective mechanisms of the psyche. It skids like a car on a bend. But in a truly dangerous situation, he is collected and calm when other people start to panic.
He is very, very sincere: when he loves and when he hates. Can't pretend.
This will be the same person who, without understanding what is happening, breaks into someone else's fight with the best of intentions and generally everyone will suffer.
Very difficult relationships with people. Insanely afraid of becoming abandoned and rejected, has an obsessive need for another person. He needs acceptance and constant confirmation that he is loved here and now. Permanent. Poorly understands how to build close relationships, so they are often stormy and unstable, characterized by frequent conflicts. He mimics other people's personalities well and communicates with everyone in a tone of light semi-flirting, easily gaining their affection. However, exactly until the moment when he breaks again. He likes "good girls". He is drawn to something sweet and stable, ordinary life, tenderness and warmth. Somewhat obsessed with one girl: usually quickly switching to another girlfriend, in this situation, Cobra still periodically begins to suffer due to the breakdown of that "special" relationship and tries to return her. They met when he found and returned her lost cat.
Cobra can be considered a fetishist, but he is strained by "bad" feteshes. Therefore, he quickly broke up with a girl who wanted him to slap her, and who confused him and scared him that when she screamed "no!" he stopped touching her, and she was angry that he should not have stopped. Ice laughed at this story, and Drago was caught not fucking understanding what they were talking about.
According to one of his rambling stories, he began sharpening his teeth after several failed kidnap attempts as a child. He grew up with the feeling and awareness that the world is dangerous and adapted to such a reality. All the attributes in his appearance are somehow created to protect himself. Piercing minimizes the likelihood of becoming a victim of human trafficking. Fangs are an additional weapon. He interrupts his smell with nicotine so that evil spirits cannot smell him.
As a child, he was systematically abused by his father, until one of the escapes from home was successful. Cobra loved him and feared him at the same time. His father broke his jaw once. His mother had the same disease as him. Mother died after swallowing pills. After that, Cobra developed fear, manifested in the fact that he begins to panic wake up those who are sleeping too quietly. A huge fear of being abandoned and rejected is expressed in the desire to prevent this in a new relationship by all means. He has a lot of scars (not counting his face, because he is a good fighter) and one particular long cut on his palm. As a child, he caught a knife with which his father tried to hit his wife - Cobra's mother.
The Cobra is full of impulsiveness and is capable of dangerous acts during mood swings. He is usually quite cheerful, spontaneous and behaves like a child. The world either delights him or frightens him. He is very empathic, but there is a lot of pain and anger in him.
Androgynous appearance, which is stuck somewhere in the middle and Cobra inclines her one way, then the other - according to her mood. Ice says he has "fucking Bambi" eyes.
Sleepwalker. During his periods of sleepwalking, Cobra was able to get to know Drago and interact with him. Drago explained this by the fact that, as a magical creature, he is constantly on two frequencies, so Cobra "saw" him.
He has the skill of extreme vocals, surprising Drago with the ability to growl, wheeze and squeal like a demon.
Sharply emotionally attached due to an insignificant external factor / stimulus, therefore he accepted Drago into the company with delight.
He really likes Drago, he sincerely loves him, so he constantly spins around, satisfying the need to communicate with him through comic fights, provoking. If you don't want to peacefully give him what he wants, then a fight will do too. Either hug him or die in a fight xD He will still hug you in the process. Drago is to some extent flattered by such attention and enthusiasm in general for everything he does, but more often it annoys him. Sometimes Drago doesn't mind supporting the game, but is much ruder in behavior and can accidentally cripple. Because of Drago, there are a lot of bruises and scratches on Cobra's skin, but this is the lesser evil that happens when you want to be friends with a demon.
Ice says that Cobra only has such an enthusiastic reaction to children and animals to annoy Drago.
Cobra is shaking as if from cold, his nose is bleeding and sometimes he is sick due to being too close to Drago. Drago emits a large amount of powerful evil energy.
Vegan. Very aggressive vegan. It makes him sick to see one creature eating another. The sight of blood does not frighten him, the very fact of devouring disgusts him. He loves animals, especially dogs, which is mostly due to the death of his beloved dog in childhood. Cobra met Ice because Ice kicked a cat. It ended in a fight, a police station and a friendship. Member of the Animal Liberation Front (ALF). At the same time, he calmly perceives that Drago is a natural predator and can eat another creature.
He experiences painful uncontrollable emotions: abandonment, uselessness, helplessness. In animals and small children, he sees his traumatized part.
He splashed out anger and rage on himself or others, objects. His outburst of anger debilitates him. The hole in his chest opens with bloody wounds and gapes with emptiness. Joy and anger leave him.
Loves to read. Reads a lot. Especially Stephen King. If you know what book he is reading, you can understand what mood he will be in. Has a habit of temporarily adopting character traits and behaviors of characters. He also loves TV shows about vampires, especially Buffy.
Plays guitar. Favorite bon jovi song is Livin on a prayer. This song is very important to him. The cobra involuntarily hums it, usually to calm down. He no longer remembers that episode from his life, but with the same song he calmed down his very little sister, himself a child, when his parents quarreled in the next room. The Misfits are my favorite musical group. He loves heavy music, which allows him to help deal with mental pain.
When he feels himself on edge, he exhausts himself in the most harmless way - a chaotic aggressive dance.
The emotional scale of fear is broken. In deep childhood, due to a weakened emotional state, he was attacked by a dark entity that fed on fear. This creature came at night and guarded him, tormented him mentally, watching through the window. She came to the smell of carrion, because Kobra was already practically dying, psychologically crippled. Cobra's father killed his dog because it barked at night and then Cobra was left all alone against the whole world. This continued until the creature got very close for the final attack and received a cold wave of tired NOTHING in response. At that moment, Cobra's psyche finally cracked, which saved him. He just suddenly became so spit that the emotions turned off. Subsequently, this was reflected in the fact that he learned to notice supernatural beings and react extremely calmly to this.
He is afraid of hallucinations, periodically asking if something seemed to him. At first thought that Drago was his hallucination.
He is not at all afraid of Drago, or his aggressive attacks, or anything at all that confuses Drago in order. Only once did Drago manage to really scare him, taking him by surprise when he suddenly waved his hand like a man, evoking not the best trigger memories in Cobra. Cobra tries to befriend him and is subconsciously drawn to him by passive suicidal tendencies, in an effort to have Drago hurt him.
Cobra is afraid of adult men and often says that he will never grow up, because adults are fucked up and he definitely will not become like that. To some extent, this is a hint that he wants to commit suicide. (a situation with a common hangout of different random people: "I'm afraid of men". - a familiar girl. "Me too. These guys are creepy". - Cobra. "But you"…
"I'm not an adult. And I will never be". …. "Ice." "What?" "I don't think Cobra is okay". "Can't be". "I'm serious. He's practically voiced his desire for suicide to me now!" "I don't understand, who do you think I am, his mother? Why, if he does some crap, does everyone immediately run to me? .. Cobra, spit it out! Or I'll come and get it myself! That's it, I'm watching. So what did you say? He is an independent person, I do not interfere in his affairs".)
Cobra is also angry at Ice, because he starts relationships with guys much older and once broke one such guy's legs, accusing him of pedophilia. After that, Ice keeps his relationship as far away from his friends as possible.
He was the first to show Drago friendliness because… FUCK YOUR FUCK THIS IS A DRAGON! Can we keep it for ourselves? You are cool, dude. Do you want candy?
Cobra eats sweets, a lot. Let it kill him better than the lack of endorphins. And he likes to get everyone together to spend time chatting or playing something. When they walk around the city, the Cobra will usually start walking very close and push the other person out of the way. When he involuntarily began to do this with Drago, he pushed him with his shoulder and threw him somewhere into the bushes.
It is worth mentioning that he applies methods of communication to everyone like with dogs: feed, scratch behind the ear.
Clothing: bovver boots with a high shaft and intricate lacing. Heavy leather jacket, lots of iron. Drago at first believed that it was a talisman against weak evil spirits.
General headcanon and other little things:
People in the understanding of Drago build complex and intricate social bonds. And he did not always correctly understand gestures and assess their meaning, which at times created certain … difficulties. Human beings are strange and very illogical creatures. Too complicated. Drago found himself thinking too often lately that he didn't seem to know anything about them at all.
Drago and the punks often hang out on the football field when no one is there after hours. In this place you can indulge in melancholy and just chat about different things. When they quarreled and stopped communicating for a while, Drago would come there alone because of the sudden feeling of loneliness and was angry that no one else was there.
Cobra sees Ice as a stable figure. Strong, self-confident, understandable, stable, who knows what she wants from life. Trying to stabilize himself at his expense. Basically, why does he have a fetish for "good girls". Stable, calm and safe. He really wants this island of calm, and he sincerely falls in love with such a person, until he disappoints him with the fact that he cannot stand the suffocating adoration. Ice gets high from the emotional gushing of Cobra, compensating for this lack of emotions in himself. Cobra is cool, it's not boring with him. And pathological boredom is Ice's main problem. The trouble is that it's fun with Cobra due to the fact that he is so crazy from the hell inside himself that he tries to drown him out with adrenaline and other craziness. Ice says that it seems that Cobra behaves like either a very angry grandfather, or a three-year-old, and somewhere in the middle he is real, but it is not known which of these is worse. Ice's plus is that he divides everyone into strangers and his own. And he appreciates and loves his own, in a peculiar way, but he loves, and oh, how Kobra needs love.
The difference is that Ice and Jay chose this life consciously because they wanted to, while Cobra was forced to adapt in order to survive.
Drago has a sharp specific smell like a demon. It smells like death, iron, fumes and blood. Ice says that Drago stinks of carrion. Drago also has a nervous tic: he twists the corner of his mouth and licks his fangs when he is nervous. Ice noticed it right away.
Cobra gives Drago many nicknames, like: Dag, Daggert, D-Rex, Beast and others. He also taught him bad words and various interesting gestures, with which Drago subsequently shocked the impressionable Jackie.
Drago has a habit of silently grabbing a person and dragging him along the ground if he needs to move somewhere or call to follow him. Cobra doesn't mind, he even has fun.
Drago believes that people with green eyes should beware. They are sorcerers. Vicious predators lurking in a simple human form.
Ice sees Drago as a victim of domestic violence and, in principle, they all immediately took Drago for their own just because of this factor. The broken help the broken.
Drago can become ill with something like schizophrenia, since Shendu had sons before he was born and they all went crazy and were killed. Drago confessed this to the guys when they were all stoned after Drago had his first tantrum in his life amid the loss of fire magic and the general pressure from his father and his own high expectations. Too much anger, fear and disappointment broke him down. In fact, the guys were betting how fast Drago would have a nervous breakdown, see how tense he is and work himself up. Welcome to the world of teenagers: we have disappointments, betrayals and other jokes here. Don't forget to buckle up. Communication with people and thus balancing the two opposites inside Drago can help him not to repeat the fate of other unsuccessful children of Shendu.
Drago did not understand people well. Even worse - these people. But he had to reluctantly admit to himself that he found more and more attractive things in their society. Ice said that each person is a unique individual. Individuality occupied a rather significant place in their philosophy. You don't need to compare yourself to anyone. Be who you are and be happy. At the same time send to hell those who do not agree with this.
Drago is angry that people are constantly cheating. That friendly and calm - dangerous killers. That cold and indifferent are the kindest. And those who laugh a lot and are not afraid of death keep scars on their skin and are afraid to live.
And here are a few photos that I saw and I liked them. These guys are somewhat similar to how I see these characters.

From this post

Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you? Are there any tropes you used to like but don’t anymore?
I don't think I read enough (or write too many of the same things enough) to have any definitive answers to these.
I guess for 12, there was a point where I wasn't really into the concept of 'soulmates' or something similar. Mostly, I think because I like my ships with some kind of semblance of free-choice. But in retrospect, I like the idea of two people who are indelibly connected somehow. (Just think Raye and Mariah/Mara from my own OCs, or as a canon character pairing, a Yuna/Baralai concept from FFX-2 that I never quite got off the ground where they're experiencing lingering side effects from the whole Lenne/Shuyin thing ) so long as there's conflicting priorities or something else actually makes getting together a Bad Idea.
For 13…I used to be a lot more into (or at least tolerant of) het with some of the more traditional romance tropes. I remember re-reading "Those who Come Closest" last year and cringing a bit at the very het, kind of gender-essentialist treatment of the dynamic given in the Ifrit and Shiva chapters specifically.

Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it?
My Skyrim fic! The Final Confession of Shabhira Moons Stalker
It's not exactly the deepest of cuts, since it's a Yuletide fic. But I'm still really proud of this one. The intent of the story was to write something that could either be plausibly added to Skyrim (or another Elder Scrolls book) as an actual freeform quest, and I definitely feel like I pulled that off in how Shabhira's journey plays out. The worldbuilding still holds up, and the overarching plot of the silent saboteur is one that still captivates me.

Answer any question of your choice, or talk about anything you want to talk about!
To expand bit more about NDKO (the Disco radio station that Raye listens to when Mariah leaves her alone) and the Disco scene in Hell in general:
DJ Magik Mik, the host of the morning show that's used in the story, keeps his Band nature a well-kept secret, even for a D-list celebrity, to the extent that anyone likely to encounter him is forced to sign a very, very strict NDA regarding his Band. That doesn't stop the radio station from advertisting 'Magik Mik' band reveals every few months or so, but something always seems to happen just at the point of reveal that keeps anyone from actually guessing. Balseraph and Shedite have mostly been ruled out, but there's still several running guesses, including a few brave souls who think he's actually an unfledged demonling. An actual Band reveal would dispel pretty much all of the mystery around Mik, so he's very keen to keep up the charade as long as he can.
More in general, the 1980s Disco scene in Hell is quite…fraught. Its popularity has spread out to quite a few Words including some that don't play well with Media, read Death and Fire specifically. This makes running events for NDKO listeners quite fraught, since any event actually worth attending is going to bring in demons who don't know how to (or don't care to) play nice. By the early 1980s, Disco isn't actually very popular among Media or Technology anymore, which makes Mariah's choice to play it in her work room a little weird and off-trend, which isn't suspicious because, well, Mariah's more than a little weird and off-trend.

i heard you have ocs?
Oh heck yeah! Finally some one asked, bro you have no idea how long I’ve been holding this in warning it is LONG
Elijah
main OC he is currently 13 and about to go through a LOT. Half angel half demon also emo his father is a demon but doesn’t talk much about his mother and when asked dodges the question not because she’s dead or anything but she was part of his worst memories. All Elijah knows about her is that she was an angel, he also has a best friend who he’s known since the age of 4 named Xane (we’ll come onto him) in a foul attempt to learn more about his parents ,as his father is very secretive, he ends up roping his friends into the worst mess imaginable; they get into the middle of a war between two mafias as a third party that threatens to reveal all their secrets and one of his friends is directly involved with one side and his father the other. He also meets his grim reaper who in an act of mercy gave him three lives because he didn’t want to take someone so young. Elijah has an idol, a famous detective with no name, he aspires to be just like her no
likes: cats, mcr, Xane, Shelly (his girlfriend who he gets later on when he’s 15), the drums, skateboarding
dislikes: being called a vampire, being told what to do, his mother (but that comes later on), piano lessons (the ghost of an old lady teaches him and Xane on Sundays)
Xane
Just a lil’ ghost boy but not really, he wears a sheet over himself to look more like a ghost despite not being dead(the face on the sheet was drawn on by Elijah), although he does wish he was but not in a suicidal way. He is an orphan he was left on the doorstep of an old abandoned mansion and a married couple of ghosts took him in, the other ghosts weren’t pleased at first but soon grew attached to him. He’s very shy and doesn’t talk and he’s pretty much a wallflower. He does get bullied sometimes. No one has actually ever seen his face apart from the ghosts of course but no one else not even Elijah (he did get a glimpse but was knocked out immediately and forgot what happened). He also has a killer death metal voice. No one knows how he obtained that skill but you can always hear him at band practice.
likes : mochi, spiders, Elijah, skateboarding
dislikes: disobeying authority, the colour yellow, piano lessons, rin (we’ll come to him)
Anaiah
She is a dog girl she wasn’t originally thought so technically human. She has two older brothers Louis and Vencel and Louis is a bit of a mad scientist and he was testing to see if his dog girl serum was working which it did but he also made it to be permanent. He was making this serum because dog girls are fictional and he’s lost taste for prosthetic tails and ears. One method of obtaining his dream would be crossbreeding werewolves until he got results but that would be very illegal and expensive. She is quite the violent girl and is currently dealing with anger issues she may also be crushing on her friend. She plays the bass guitar and was taught be Vencel, Louis also taught her how to DJ and mix her own songs. She is very punk btw.
likes: Lilly, waffles, band practice, violence, her trusty bats (she has a lot her bedroom walls are lined with baseball bats), anime
dislikes: school rules, staying put for too long, eggs, spicy food
Lilly
She and her family are vampires and are very rich, her older brother is a famous pop idol and so to follow in his footsteps she became a popular influencer. He didn’t seem to pleased about it though. Most people recognise her from her brother which annoys her. When her brother got scouted and found out that dying his hair was in his contract she also dyed her hair the same shade of bright magenta. Her parent apply a lot of pressure on her to be perfect and get good grades but she likes hanging out with Anaiah because than she doesn’t have to be perfect she can do or be whatever she wants and she likes that same as when she’s making a video or on stream. It’s her dream to make as many people snails as her big brother does but she’ll soon learn why her brother doesn’t want her to take this path (he commits suicide). She is the groups lead female singer and she also plays the keyboard
likes: cats, boba, anime, sora/ whatever I’m gonna name him idk (her brother), spicy food
dislikes: being recognised for sora, being asked to change into a bat, rodents
YET TO BE NAMED!!!! Hopefully
Please note he is not a kitsune, I repeat NOT a kitsune!! He is a Korean yeoul they are completely different (probably make a post about it later this is already too long) he’s more average than the others also can’t do half the stuff they can because he’s Catholic. People often confuse him for Rin a kitsune exorcist who is an entirely different shade of orange btw. He does have an anthro form so the day I commit the grave sin of learning to draw furries you’ll start seeing more art of him. Doesn’t have much lore cause he’s a normal child apart from the fact his girlfriend is a slave to the mafia well one of them. He does help her cope and with his friends he’s trying to get her out of that hellhole. Also random fact he’s lactose intolerant and has a peanut allergy. He’s the guitarist and sometimes back up vocals. He is self taught and can often be caught playing the season 1 blue exorcist theme song to warm up
Likes: ramen, chicken, chicken flavoured ramen, cheese, peanut butter, blue exorcist,
dislikes: being unable to eat cheese and peanut butter, being banned from blue exorcist for mentioning the demonic, being called a kitsune
Also yet to be named seriously what is wrong with me
she is the poor victim of a human trafficking incident everything you can imagine she’s probably been forced to do it or had it done to her. I don’t know why I gave her so much trauma. She is a werewolf and her master is a high ranking executive of the mafia and is able to cover up his horrible acts, he is also a sex offender. Lilly is quite young but the miserable life she was forced to lead caused her to mature much faster than the others. I think I may stop here because I gave her way too much trauma so let’s look on the brighter side of things. She is unable to speak and so uses ASL(American sign language) or BSL (British sign language) (the day I learn to draw hands) she quickly bonded with Xane over that fact she also has many dog or wolf like tendencies for example tail wagging. Her tail conveys a lot of emotions even though her face might not. She does make sounds such as whining, barking or howling. In her anthro or wolf form she’s more comfortable and Is more likely to bark. She is also a Siberian wolf and if you can tell from the name she is indeed related to the Siberian husky so she is quite loud also the drama queen. To show affection she’ll lean on you and she licks YET TO BE NAMED!!!! instead of kisses, she does it around his neck and ears the first time she did it he misinterpreted it as a sexual gesture.
likes: chew toys, dog treats, YET TO BE NAMED!!!!, the dog park,
dislikes: her master, most forms of physical contact unless she deeply trusts you, stereotypes about what happens to her on a full moon (nothing happens apart from the fact she get her period)
Rin
Now this, this is a kitsune. You can tell from the number or tails he has he’s been around for more that 200 years. He’s also a major dick for no reason. He is worshipped and has a small shrine dedicated to him although it seems it’s most likely gone to his head. He’s an exorcist and keeps trying to exorcise the ghosts in Xane’s mansion Its the reason no one likes him. One day he was saved by this little girl who took him in and took care of him he did refuse he bit and scratched her but she seemed determined to show the fox affection even after he ran away she still loved him so he had no Choice but to settle down and be her new pet. The little girl is now an old lady and unknown to her a kitsune calls her ‘mama’ when no one’s around. He feels he has a debt to the woman but still hasn’t found a way to repay her even though he’s warded off all the evil spirits that could harm her resulting in her living a long, happy, healthy life but he still feels there’s he hasn’t done.
likes: feeling superior to people, stealing, being a fraud, scamming people
dislikes: being called a yeoul, being lied to, disrespect to his mama

So Dj and I had a talk last night. He says he’s about done because I’m spiteful, nasty, rude, crude. I guess what happens when you get two people who don’t want to get their hearts broken together? One stops talking altogheter, and the other, who is naturally sarcastic, gets labeled nasty.
I shouldn’t have had them here. I should have worked out my problems with them separately. This has magnified things. It’s terrifying me and making me feel like a caged animal. All rob can say is “I understand, but can we fous on having a good experiene todaoy?’ I appreciate the empathing, but we actually never get back to it. it’s hitting a neverending pause that builds up.
So last night. Here’s what bothers me. Please understand these are my perceptions, but as such, they are valid.
A true lack of communication. And here’s what I mean by that. While the groupchat has gotten so very much better, when things aren’t going well with one of us, they just don’t get brought up. It didn’t go withhout notice that Stephanie was crying the other night. Or that Rob didn’t want to bring it up. Didn’t Amy ask us to bring things up as they presented themselves? Often, people will say they don’t know how I will respond. Nine times out of ten if communication is just upfront and honest, this isn’t a problem. When it all comes at once, it’s like a firehose. It’s at those times that I feel attacked, and yes, I probably respond as if I am.
I don’t like things to be left to the last minute. It makes me rush and that’s really hard for me. I absolutely hate being late. it causes me a huge amount of stress and doesn’t let me enjoy what’s happening.
Plans this week. I’ve literally been offering suggestions. None of them were that imporant to me. Death valley was a thought to get us away from the cool and the rain. That’s it. I was NOT that committed to spending a day trip in the car that required snacks and provisions. But one of the things that came up during therapy was that I by and large made the decisions. I remember Amy at one point saying “so what if you didn’t?” So I haven’t. It’s not been a trap.
I know it seems silly to everyone else, but it’s important to me. Not only do I dislike the same old same old, but I crave the opposite. it’s who I am. It’s hard to describe for people who aren’t like that, but it’s an essential part of me. I feel like that’s being unheard, lost, or not considered. Please know that I know it’s not intentional. But that is why when someone says I’m not easy to please, or someone says that I’m the one that always has issues, perhaps those are the wrong questions. Maybe the question need to be is there a reason Ann doesn’t fit with this anymore?
Dj said last night that he felt that since I left the school I had a vacuous hole that I have been trying to fill. So I want to explain a few things about that. While the school dictated my timeline, I left when I was ready. I don’t feel remorse, I don’t feel like I need to go back, and I have no ill feelings at all. I was ready for that chapter to be done. Yoga was great for when it was happening. Covid closed it. I could tell it was getting hard on my body, so it’s not necessarily a bad thing. That’s led to me doing coaching and speaking. It’s new and will take time to build, like any business. But I’ve already had big successes like publishing a book and speaking in front of hundreds of people.
As for stuff from my past coming up, my rape came up because the circumstances at that wine night were identical, minus the pool table, to the night that I was raped. That night, I saw Dj, and immediately grabbed him. He was my safe place to get me out even though he didn’t know what was happening. Since then, we identified that my uncle assaulted me and likely one of my cousins. I’ve learned what my triggers are for those. I feel like I’ve shared them, but in case I haven’t, or they are unclear, here’s what they are.
Kenny. Kenny being on top of me and refusing to get off of me on the float trip. it’s what kicked this series of events into gear.
People smelling of beer. The people who raped me smelled of beer. Also my dad would get drunk on beer and become unpredictable. I learned to avoid it.
Feeling trapped or like I have no choice. It takes me back to when I was little and I had absolutely no choice and often was physically trapped with a blanket.
Not being heard or listened to. This one mostly just makes me insanely sad. It’s a bit of my go to, because I’m very used to it for most of my life. I was told that for all of my abuse so I stopped talking about it.

Aight Inscryption AU let's go
First though! This has spoilers for the game! I highly recommend watching a playthrough or playing it yourself before reading this it's a great game!
Foxy as the scrybe of beasts. He spins carefully crafted stories, made to suspend your disbelief and keep you on the edge of your seat. He uses a brush to paint the beasts onto cards. His beastly underlings are strong and independent, unlikely to disappoint and skilled hunters. Has a distinct hatred for the scrype of technology.
Chica is the scrybe of the dead. Her stories are made with joy and with love, made to make you laugh and have fun. She uses a camera to capture the life of those that no longer have it. Her ghouls are her friends and they are rarely asked to fight as her cards, but all are prepared to do so.
Bonnie is the scrybe of magic. His stories are dramatic and powerful, full of dry wit and metaphors. He uses a quill to sketch his students into cards. His pupils are loyal and desperate to prove themselves in the hopes they'll one day either replace him or become one of his most prized cards.
Roxy is the scrybe of technology. Her stories are precise and double edged, arrogant and relentless. She uses a scanner to enscrype her cards. Her workers are fiercely loyal and will follow her wherever she may lead. Fucking hates the scrybe of beasts.
Sunny and Moon are the mycologists. They take a pair of identical cards from the challenger and combines them into one with gusto. They're endlessly trying to work out how this all works and is the true neutral party in the game.
DJ Music Man is the dredger in Roxy's factory. He works day and night to find the OLD_DATA and he takes his job very seriously. He keeps the factory full of music and fishes through the water with the scoops provided and his hands. While he would follow her to the ends of the world, he is the most likely to disobey her with good reason and he is one of the few in her factory she will allow to do so.
The lil Music Men make up the rest of the workers in Roxy's factory. The Melter, the Inspector, etc. They would do whatever it takes to make sure Roxy has the cards she needs to win, even if it means throwing themselves into her deck. They play Roxy's boss music along with DJ Music Man and Roxy is very particular about who else should get that privilege.
Monty is the angler. He searches the murky waters of the forest for the OLD_DATA to help Foxy take over. He's loyal to Foxy and loves his job of swimming around all day. He's a decent card player but appreciates being made into a card in the other scrybe's campaigns. He doesn't really have much problem with the other scrybes and gets along with them all for the most part.
Mangle is one of Foxy's other underlings. They're a strong card player and they're eager to help Foxy create new cards with new beasts and helps play test the new ones. They dislike Roxy but is civil with her. They like all the other scrybes though, especially Chica.
Freddy is one of Chica's ghouls. He has no problems with the other scrybes and is in charge of searching for the OLD_DATA via the well in the crypt. He likes helping challenger's with the puzzle to lower the tombstones and is generally the most easily distracted of the searchers. Is always determined to find it and give Chica the power of the game she deserves.
Vanessa, Mapbot and the Wet Floor Sign are Bonnie's pupils, along with various other previous iterations of Bonnie. They seem like nothing much but they're some of the best card players in the game. Bonnie teaches them well. Vanessa is the quickest to turn on him out of all of them but this still takes a lot of struggle for everyone. Bonnie searches for the OLD_DATA himself mostly but the others all have the responsibility of searching for it as well, with Bonnie giving them specific areas to search in.
When Foxy has control of the game, you have a cabin similar to the one in canon, but more themed on the captain's cabin of a ship. Roxy is the first talking card you get, a card called Eternal Cub. She is a wolf cub card with one attack and one defence, with no sigils and a cost of one blood. Chica is a card called 'Empty Chicken'. Her sigil is the instant death one and she has two health and one attack, costing two bones to play. Bonnie is the 'Enraged Rabbit' card, with two attack and two health with a cost of one blood. Roxy is in your starter deck but you must find Chica in a locked treasure chest and Bonnie in a compass. Foxy has fun imitating Monty and the other underlings, though he's not exactly the most flattering with his descriptions. He's dramatic and watches you with a sharp, menacing eye as you traverse the cabin puzzles. An alligator card is hidden somewhere, along with a hound and a rabbit card based on Vanny, with a few lizards and stuff around. As you work through puzzles, he paints you with his tail and shows you after you win/lose, allowing you to choose the stats from one of your cards and then the cost for your deathcard. He's honoured if you choose to replace him, but furious at the thought of being replaced. He looks down on you if you choose to replace Roxy, saying it's not much of an ambition but if you succeed, he wouldn't mind being rid of her.
When Chica has control, the place looks like an abandoned kitchen, with a long cold furnace and puzzles with pots, pans and knives. The scrybes are represented as bosses and she speaks as though they're the fiercest creatures known to man. She has a lot of fun with her story and makes fun of the other scrybes as the game goes on. Should she choose to make them into cards, Roxy becomes a Death Wolf, with three attack, two health and a cost of six bones. Bonnie becomes the Death Rabbit card, with two attack, one health and a cost of four bones. Foxy is the Death Fox with a cost of three bones, one attack and one health with a stinky sigil because she thinks it's funny. He's the only card in the deck with a stink sigil. The challenger's typically think it's funny too. Her story is full of fun and jokes and the game board is like a chess set. She even lets you pick your own piece which is something the others don't typically allow. Freddy, Monty, DJ Music Man, the lil Music Men and all the other underlings are represented as talking cards too but she likes to hide them around the place, with Bonnie being in your starting deck. If you choose to replace Chica, she's amused and wishing you luck but is also like "haha you won't beat me though. I will never be replaced." and she's a very menacing opponent.
When Bonnie is in control, it's the most dramatic thing you've ever seen. There's fireworks and a stadium style game in a magic library with puzzles around bowling balls and and mystical candles. The place is beautiful and he takes great joy in hiding the other scrybes. Their underlings are given to you in your starting deck, and talk to eachother frequently. They talk shit sometimes and Bonnie thinks it's hilarious. The other scrybes are hidden in puzzle boxes, behind secret doors and in cut shapes in a book. Chica is the easiest to find, the Golden Goose card that acts like a squirrel ball but for mox cards and with one attack and two health. She also needs a blue mox to be played. Roxy is the Whistling Wolf card in reference to the Big Bad Wolf that blows houses down. She has three attack and four health, and requires a blue and red mox card on the board to be summoned. Foxy is a Fiery Fox, with two attack and two health, and needs a green mox on the board to be played. Bonnie talks about them as if they're forgettable and his bosses are based on his own students, who he refers to as determined and like unrefined mox crystals. The scrybe cards also all have funny wizard hats cause everyone needs a wizard hat. If you choose to replace Bonnie, then he acts mildly offended. Like how dare you try and replace him?! He's irreplaceable!
When Roxy is in power, she's great at making you feel like a completionist. Her bosses are based on the other scrybes which she talks about with a variety of emotions. She speaks fondly of Chica, indifferently of Bonnie and with great hatred of Foxy. If she did turn them into cards, you'd have Chickbot, Rabbot and Foxbot. Chickbot has a cost of two energy, with two health one attack and has a gift sigil. Rabbot has two attack and two health, with a sniper sigil, costing four energy. Foxbot has one health, one attack and costs one energy with the brittle sigil. Foxy is in your starter deck and the puzzles to solve in her high tech garage are all mechanical and light based. Her underlings are all in her own deck and she plays them very sparingly so they don't have to die over and over. The others have their underlings as cards too, though they're also hidden with only a few of them being talking cards. They're also involved as part of the puzzles locking and hiding the other scrybe cards away. For example, there'd be a robotic alligator that once you solve the puzzle, it's mouth opens to reveal the Foxbot card. There's a good few racecar puzzles and a few mini bosses that you lose if you don't beat them within a certain time. If you choose to replace Roxy in the second act, she acts like it's the only logical choice, the best ambition to have because her deck is the best and she's the best scrybe. If you chose to replace Foxy, she laughs in your face. Him? Why? He's pathetic! Shouldn't be too hard! They probably won't even notice he's gone!
However, if they're the challengers?
Freddy is nervous and feels awful for sacrificing cards. He prefers the technology and magic cards and is very good at making overpowered cards. He chooses to replace P03 and gets rather annoyed at the comments when he loses.
Bonnie is into the game from the get go. He's a little unsure about the sacrificing and the bones mechanic but he gets over it quick and learns the ropes of the game exceedingly quick. He chooses to replace Magnificus because his starter deck sucks in his opinion.
Chica gets used to the sacrificing very quickly. She likes a combination of the death and beast decks most and is tied on whether to replace Grimora or Leshy. She settles on Leshy because she really likes Grimora and would feel bad replacing her. She's the first to ask what happens to the previous scrybe once you replace them. She's not given an answer.
Foxy complains about the lack of waterborne cards forever. He uses the Great Kraken card the most with any cards resembling ships and has a very specialised water deck. He loses a lot but when he wins he gets a lot of overkill. He chooses to replace Leshy so he can make more waterborne cards. Leshy is his favourite scrybe though because of the rich story he weaves.
Monty is very unsure what to do for a long time but as soon it clicks for him? He's one of the best at the game and almost always has overkill. He has a very well balanced deck and chooses to replace Magnificus because he doesn't like him at all.
Roxy second guesses herself a lot at first but as the games go on, she gets more and more comfortable with it all. She has a mix of a bone deck and a tech deck which is an unusual combination but she makes it work very well. She chooses to replace Grimora because she has the coolest deck in her opinion and she thinks her puzzle needs work.
Sunny treats a card game like a card game and has fun the entire time. His deck is mostly magic cards and the scrybes don't have it in them to be as mean as normal to them. He chooses to replace Magnificus because his tower is cool.
Moon is very quiet during games. No move is ever taken carelessly and is always very well thought out. They're a very good player and have a strong combination of beast and bone cards in their deck. They choose to replace Leshy because he thinks he's an ass.
I think I'll leave it there. This has gone on long enough and it's just a bit of fun
Go play Inscryption. It's a great game.

A stoic, quiet and unpredictable kind of guy. An air of mystique surrounds him. So cool, so edgy... What could he be hiding?
Unique Magic:
"Devastation"
Slows down his perception of time for a few seconds, allowing him to dodge things like bullets and anything else that goes at the speed of light. To everyone else, it looks like he goes faster just by a teeny bit. tl;dr bullet time.
Relationships:
Pietro - Dormmate and childhood friend. Total tsundere. Why does he keep hanging out with him?
Tiny Tidbits:
Has a penchant for dancing. Do not interrupt his dance time. You will face serious consequences if you do interrupt his dance time.
Frank never seems to take off his sunglasses. Not even in his sleep. Why is that? Just to look cool? Who knows?
If you sneak up on him he will reflexively suplex you from behind.
Very proefficient in melee weapons. Please do not give him armed weapons as he is also *VERY* proefficient in armed weapons if not even more so.
Has a massive collection of black scarves. No reason. They just look cool.
Pietro Bouffon

Dislikes: Mimes, Killjoys
Flaws: Being a loud piece of shit
Favorite Food: BBQ Hot Dogs
Disliked Food: Onions
Special Skill: ???
Chaotic. Feral. Annyoing. All synonyms of those words. This describes the clown perfectly. How did he even get enrolled here? No one knows. He's here to start shit. And maybe learn some other stuff in the process, I guess.
Unique Magic:
"Improbable Outcome"
Temporarily warps reality within a very small radius for 59 seconds. This serves very little purpose in the grander scheme of things.
Relationships:
Frank - Dormmate and childhood friend. Very clingy. Pietro's like a tiny little kid who won't let go of his leg.
Tiny Tidbits:
Pietro used to be relatively normal until 4 years ago, when he decided to go all in on the clown business. This clowning around has taken a toll on his sanity.
Very shaky. He never seems to stay still.
Will pull out clown gear from time to time just to liven things up. The jokes landed with these clown gear always end up flat. I guess that's just Davane humor, considering Frank seems to be the only one who reacts to those jokes...
Actually pretty efficient with technology. It's a bit he learned before he became... clown.
Also likes vibing with music. He had a small stint as DJ for a few months before being kicked out for bringing the clowniness to a party.
His voice is pretty fucked up yet he keeps screaming everything he says. RIP.
He will not shut up unless you give him a hot dog or a cookie.

TITLE: two truths and a lie.
Fandom: Miraculous Ladybug Ship: The Love Square - SnekMouse Rating: T [ AO3 ]
Summary:
“For the, uh, game. You said two things,” he said, holding up two fingers. He wiggled one finger.  “That there was a, uh, boy you’ve been in love with for years,” then the other. “And that you want to get over him.”
“I get that,” he said quietly, tapping a rhythm against her shoulder with his fingers. “Do you, uh, do you see him everyday?”
“More than he knows, I think,” she said, her tone a little sly, as if she was sharing an inside joke with herself. “He sits right in front of me in class, actually.”
-o-
“I realised I’m in love with this girl recently, I’m scared to ask her out. She, um, sits in front of me, an-and…” he floundered before finally tacking on a lie. “She knows exactly how I feel.”
... Or in which warm feelings flare in chests, soft gazes are exchanged, blushes are blushed and confessions are made without even intending to.
One of their evening patrols ended with the two of them after patrol on a secluded rooftop, with beer in cheap plastic cups in each of their hands, and two half empty bottles of it between the two of them. They sat on the balustrade, feet swinging as they looked out at the city, chuckling as they played a game of Two Truths and a Lie.
Aspik found that beer, if had in, er, generous amounts , could in fact make one tipsy, as well as loose-lipped. He was sure Multimouse would’ve figured him out if she hadn’t been a little tipsy and out of it herself...
People love photographing me, I hate that they do ( She had looked at him somewhat sadly at that ) and I love shopping for my own clothes.
My dad’s a dick, Ladybug is the uh worst and my bestfriend is a superhero. ( She had giggled uncontrollably. )
Modelling is my dream job, I enjoy piano and I love our patrols together. ( He suspected, in a very self-satisfied manner, that the flaming of her cheeks didn’t have much to do with the cold. )
…And well, If he didn’t already know Multimouse’s identity, after tonight he definitely would have....
My parents are bakers, I have a DJ friend and I’ve never dated a musician.
I have a journalist friend, I want to be a… singer and all walls in my room are pink
Chat Noir’s hair is as soft as it looks but don’t tell him I said that ( If Multimouse wondered why Aspik was blushing, she didn’t voice that ) . I like wearing my hair in pigtails and I’m allergic to marigolds. (Hard, because Aspik couldn’t possibly say that he’d seen her eat marigolds; he never questioned it of course.)
“Your previous suit design was awful, I love rose macarons and Chat Noir’s puns are amazing,” she giggled.
Aspike let out an amused snort. “You love rose macarons. And you love Chat Noir’s puns. So the lie obviously, is about my suit. My suit was the best .”
Multinouse giggled harder, cheeks flushed pink under her mask. The beer must be really getting to her, he thoughts, watching as she took another sip. “ False ,” she declared. “Chat Noir’s puns are awful .”
Aspik huffed. “My suit was just fine , little mouse.”
“Sure, snake boy,” she snorted.
“I’ll have you know I’m an expert on fashion,” he sniffed.
“I’m sure you are, Mr. Celebrity,” she laughed.
Multimouse reached over to ruffle his hair, laughing harder at his petulant look as he attempted to flatten his hair. Just as he was attempting to straighten his bangs, he caught her soft blue gaze on him. She was smiling at him warmly, almost a wistful expression on her face.
“What is it?” he asked, tilting his head.
She shook her head, almost as if she was snapping herself out of something. The softness left her face and she gave him a weak smile. “Your turn,” she said, downing her cup.
He watched quietly for a few moments, as she hastily refilled her cup. He cleared his throat and looked away, training his eyes on the city lights.
“I’m thankful to have you in my life and that we’re friends, your suit is super cute, grey and pink? Very you . And uh…” he floundered, when he sensed her wide-eyed blue gaze. “I… Uh, hate passionfruit?”
He heard her let out laughter, and he couldn’t help but turn to look at her. “You don’t hate passion fruit,” she giggled.
He snorted. “Well, how would you know? Maybe your suit is not cute. Maybe you’re not my friend.”
“You’re so silly,” she laughed. “Don’t think I haven’t seen you scarf down the passion fruit macarons I bring occasionally…”
“Well, only a fool would dislike those,” he said petulantly. “I can tell they’re baked with love,” he added teasingly, wagging his eyebrows at her.
She blushed and looked away, nervously patting one of her space buns. “...Er, well, m-my suit is amazing . I only ever wear top notch fashion, th-thank you very much.”
He grinned. “I’m sure you do.”
“And I… We’re…” She seemed to inhale deeply, before her gaze flickered over to his, a little wistful. “Friends. I know we are. You make sure to let me know.” She laughed, though it sounded a little hollow to his ears. “Everyday.”
Her eyes widened a fraction and she chuckled nervously. “I mean, everytime we patrol.”
Aspik frowned at the distant look in her eyes and the nervous fidgeting of her hands. He scooted a little closer to her and hesitantly took her hand in his. She stiffened, but only for a moment before relaxing again with a gentle sigh. She leaned her head against his shoulder.
“I’m glad we’re friends,” she said softly, and added almost as if to herself. “I’m happy we’re at least that.”
“Me too,” he said, before adding gently. “Your turn.”
“What? Oh, um right,” she said, and he felt her fidget lightly before settling down.
“I’ve been crazy in love with a boy for years,” she started, and Adrien froze. How had he forgotten about that . “I need to get over him, because I know he doesn’t see me that way...”
“He’s an idiot,” huffed Aspik, illiciting a startled laugh out of her.
“He’s not,” she said. “He’s the smartest, sweetest and kindest person I’ve met. Second only to maybe Chat Noir.”
“So Chat Noir is first , huh?” preened Adrien.
“Don’t tell him I said that,” she laughed. “It won’t do his ego any good.”
“Pfft,” said Aspik dismissively. “He’s the humblest hero of them all.”
“Sure,” said Multimouse, rolling her eyes.
“But we digress,” said Aspike. “This debate is on hold until further notice.”
“Whatever you say, li’l snek.”
They were silent for a few minutes before Aspik finally cracked. “You only said two things.”
“What?” she asked, lifting her head off his shoulder to look at him.
“For the, uh, game. You said two things,” he said, holding up two fingers. He wiggled one finger.  “That there was a, uh, boy you’ve been in love with for years,” then the other. “And that you want to get over him.”
“Hm,” she hummed, looking away again before letting out a soft self-depriciating laugh. “It’s going to be so easy to?”
Aspik wrapped a hand around her shoulder to tuck her further into his side, because what an idiot of a guy.
Adrien felt his breath rush out of his lungs, as the world shifted in his mind’s eye. Like a fast replay of everything with a new filter, and he felt his chest start to warm. He tightened his grip around her and pulled her tighter against him.
He cleared his throat. “Have you, um, tried asking him out?”
“Only a hundred times,” she laughed. “It’s always gone wrong. Maybe that was for the best anyway. He doesn’t… He doesn’t see me like that.”
“And how do you know that? If you haven’t asked him out?”
“He says that we’re “just friends” at least once a week.” Marinette snorted. “I am starting to think that’s his way of gently letting me down without really having to reject me. He values friendships too much for that, I think.”
“You should really not make presumptions,” he said nervously, heart racing.
“Pretty sure I know what I’m talking about, Aspik. I’m sure I know what I’m talking about.”
“Including his feelings?”
“Feelings he’s made pretty clear,” she said as she drew circles on the back of his hand.
Aspik sighed, feeling like he was on the precipice of losing something he hadn’t even known he had. He really, really did not want to let go.
“My turn,” he said quietly. “I… There’s this… girl.”
Multimouse seemed to deflate a little next to him, which he couldn’t help but find a little perplexing. But he trudged forth.
“I realised I’m in love with this girl recently, I’m scared to ask her out and…” he floundered before finally tacking on a lie. “She knows exactly how I feel.”
“Well, that’s kind of obvious, snake boy,” she sighed. “I don’t see what you have to be scared about…”
“She… I found out only today that she’s trying hard to move on from me.”
“That means she still does have feelings for you.” Her voice was smaller than he’d like, almost a breathy resignation to it. “You should ask her anyway. I can’t imagine anyone saying no to you.”
“Yeah?”
She lifted her head off his shoulder, her gaze warm, smile fond. “Yeah.”
Aspik hummed. “Even you?”
“Of course! I just told you I- Well, I- I mean, if-if it weren’t for that guy I told you about, then um, yes. Definitely. For sure. Yep.”
“You think so?”
“Yeah.”
“Maybe I’ll leave a note on her desk when school re-opens after Winter Break. With a bunch of flowers.”
“Yeah, I’m sure she’d like that,” sighed Multimouse.
“Actually, maybe not,” he amended thoughtfully. “She sits right behind me, so it’ll be hard for me to see her reaction. And she’s a little prone to easily freaking out,” he chuckled fondly. “Maybe I should enlist my bestfriend’s girlfriend for help. Those two are bestfriends, you know, and she’s a schemer, that one. What do you think I should-”
He stopped when he realised Multimouse’s head wasn’t against his shoulder anymore. He turned to see that she was staring at him with wide eyes, head tilted curiously
“Did you say that she sits behind you? Like right behind you?”
“Yeah.”
“Huh,” she muttered. “Y-You said that she has feelings for you. And that you found out she was trying to get over them.”
Adrien unfortunately had always been just a little slow on the uptake. So he chuckled a little. “Yeah, found out today, in fact.”
“ Today ?”
“Yep, today.”
“She told you herself, did she?”
He really should have noticed the careful neutrality in her tone.
“Yes, actually,” he nodded vigorously. “But you seem to think there’s still hope, so I… Wait a second .”
He whirled on her, eyes narrowed, to find that she was studying him too.
“Do you…. Know ?” she asked first, eyebrows set in a wary pinch.
Aspik hesitated before leaning closer to her, almost nose to nose now bodies twisted to face each other. He turned completely to her in a moment, one leg folded, the other hanging off the ledge of the roof.
“Do… you know?”
“I asked first, mon é cailles .” The slight twitch of her eye gave away her faux serious facade though.
He smirked as he wrapped a hand under her knee to tug her closer, while her hands came up to hold his shoulders so she could stabilize herself. “Can’t argue with that logic ma petite souris ,” he chuckled, face towering over hers. “But I’m afraid I have the upper hand here.”
With that he kissed the corner of her lips ( Her. Lips. ), just as he decided to hell with it and tugged her onto his lap ( Oh, my god! ) fully.
“A-Aspik!” she squeaked as he looked up at her affectionately, before pressing a kiss to the other corner of her mouth.
“Multimouse,” he said, now his hands wrapped around her hips, zero room between them.
She was watching him with parted lips, face flaming, while her expression was of utter disbelief. Hesitantly, her hand went up to trace his mask, before it settled on cupping his cheek. Blushing, she looked at him with soft eyes before leaning slightly and kissing the apple of his cheek.
“How… How did you find out?” he asked quietly, as she started to draw back.
She looked panicked for a moment before relief seemed to wash over her.
“The game sort of gave you away,” she admitted, not meeting his eyes as one of her hands snaked ( snaked , heh) over his chest and over his shoulder so she could play with the hair at the nape of his neck. “Um, so what gave me away?” she asked shyly.
He froze for only a second before thanking the gods for having Marinette herself present the answer to him.
“The game,” he grinned.
She groaned before deflating in his arms ( In. His. Arms!!! ), forehead resting against his shoulder.
“I knew the beer was a terrible idea,” she whined. “It made us too loose-lipped!”
“Beg to differ,” said Aspik. “Best idea you’ve had, I think.”
Multimouse giggled. “Maybe.”
“Hey, Marinette?”
“Hm?”
“I do love you, you know. I meant that.”
She was quiet for some time before she finally drew away from him to look him in the face. She brushed his hair out of his eyes, dancing with a pure sort of happiness that made his heart burst with joy. She kissed his forehead, and then the tip of his nose, making his face heat up with anticipation.
As he watched, her eyes flickered to his lips, before she looked away nervously, biting her lower lip with worry. Adrien’s heart warmed - what, was this the hundredth time just that night? - and he brushed the tip of his nose against her chin.
“You know, you keep doing that and I might just kiss you,” he said teasingly.
He laughed softly as the tips of her ears turned red. “Well, you won’t hear me complain, mon écaille irisée ,” she muttered.
And well, so he kissed her. She seemed frozen in shock for a fleeting second before melting against him. Her hands locked around the nape of his neck as she pulled him closer, an almost mind-numbing tug at the base of his skull as she tilted his head back to get a better angle. He decided then and there that he wouldn't complain if they never stopped. He tried his best to cull the purr building in his throat because that would be dead giveaway, and wondered briefly if he'd develop snake-like tendencies as well if he wore the miraculous long enough. His teeth grazed her lower lip, where hers had been less than thirty seconds ago, and he bit it gently, greedily swallowing the moan she let out.
They finally parted for breath, and her buns sat skewed on the top of her head, messed up and unkempt, some strands straying loose and falling on her as she stared at him.
“You know, no one’s ever called me iridiscent before,” he said, eyes dancing with mirth as he swept back some of the loose hair off her face.
“Shut up, nicknames aren’t really my forte,” she pouted, leaning into give him another peck against his lips.
“No, I love it,” he assured her, making her look down at him again. “Will you promise to call me that forever?” he asked teasingly, an eyebrow quirked with mirth.
Everytime he thought she couldn’t turn any redder, she proved him wrong. And he loved her for it.
“You’re too much,” she complained. “You and Chat have been spending too much time together!
Adrien only laughed. “But you looooooove me.”
“Yeah I do.”
“I’m glad you didn’t get over me,” he said quietly.
Her smile faded and she looked at him fondly. “Thanks to you, you don’t make it easy, you know.”
“So I’ve heard,” he chuckled.

Rainbow Live character analysis bc why not
Naru: She’s probably a relatable character for the kids, I guess...?
Rinne: Rinne isn’t a character so much as a plot device. I appreciate her to some degree, but she doesn’t give us much to work with. Her taste in food sucks.
Ann: The staff themselves have pointed out that even though Naru is the official protagonist, Ann is the most 'protagonist-like' character. I don't particularly like her, since she seems too normal and successful for me to relate to in any way, but there’s also nothing in particular about her that’s worth disliking. I wouldn’t go as far as calling her 'bland', but she’s definitely one of the less interesting characters, in my opinion.
Ito: She’s rude and a jerk, but I can’t hate her because 1) I love her style and 2) I used to be like her. Around her age, I was also the type who would say whatever I wanted even if it hurt people, would straight-up leave in the middle of class, and was very easily annoyed and didn’t see the point in taking anything seriously. But then I got older and became more like Otoha. Anyway, while I’m glad that Ito became less of a jerk as the series progressed, I wish it was done in a less feminizing way. She got into a relationship, was okay with being called by her real name, and, in the cursed spinoff, grew her hair long. Becoming a better person does not mean you have to become more feminine... although that is exactly what I did when I stopped being like Ito...
Otoha: Probably my favourite character in the series. A lot of people find her annoying or say that she was poorly written, but I love her anyway. There were definitely some things that were cartoonishly overdone - I remember her voice actress saying that she didn’t really want to go overboard on the ‘hawawa’ thing, but that’s what she was told to do. And some people may think that her constant apologizing was also overdone, but I, a (presumably) real person, apologize just as much as her, so I actually find it extremely relatable.
Wakana: A few years ago, I don’t think I would’ve liked Wakana at all - in fact, I probably would’ve hated her. But I’ve changed in some ways and I’m at a point in life where I can understand her a lot better (that may not be a good thing). It’s interesting how Wakana and her mom have both changed from spending a lot of time around toxic people, but the ways they changed were complete opposites. Wakana went from a shy, meek girl to a rude and obnoxious person, while her mom went from a delinquent to a quiet, obedient wife. I understand both of these change, I think, as I’ve also changed in similar ways. There is a certain point where when everyone around you is suffering and nothing seems to last, you become apathetic, but you try to turn that apathy into a fun thing, which I think is what Wakana was doing. But beneath that, you can see glimpses of her fears of attachment and failure. She gives off the appearance of doing whatever she wants, but she actually holds back a lot. I also delight in her passive aggressive commentary toward Bell... she’s one of the few people who can say those kinds of things to Bell’s face and get away with it.
Bell: You really don’t go into a series expecting to love the rude, rich, spoiled brat, and yet here we are. Already from the beginning, she wasn’t just some mean girl trope, since she appeared kind at first and only became mean once she felt threatened and/or disappointed. I can’t always understand how her mind works, but that only helps to make her an intriguing character. She’s very well-written, and it’s great how she unlearns toxic behaviour and becomes a kinder person without losing any strength of character.
Hiro: What a disaster; I love it! Like Wakana, he is one of those characters who I would’ve hated if I’d watched the show when I was younger. I mean, in real life, I would hate him, but he’s not real, so I don’t.
Kazuki: Easily the best written brown/black character in the franchise, although it’s not like there’s much competition there. I suppose his street dancing hobby could be seen as stereotypical, but I don’t think it’s bad since it’s shown as a real and valid hobby, not portrayed in a racist way and there’s much more to his personality than just that. Anyway, while he is a great character with a kind personality and a strong philosophy, I feel like they could’ve given him more, like... problems? All the other characters had personal problems they had to work out - even the more 'stable' characters such as Ann. But Kazuki's just kind of there as a supporting role. I guess there was that thing with the Edel Rose students trying to claim the park, but that wasn't really his own problem, just an issue that he got involved with because it mattered to him. They try to give him and Kouji the 'problem' of not performing on a wide scale, but that’s really not a problem... just a plot device to get them to form Over The Rainbow.
June: Out of all the characters, I think I understand her the least. She seems to be characterized almost entirely by her feelings for Hijiri, and I really don’t like characters who are defined by romance. It's a shame, since her design is so cool and unique and her performance is beautiful.
Kouji: Something about him that I don’t like, but I’m probably being too harsh.
Hijiri: I don’t really get why some people think he’s 'cruel' or 'insensitive' for not telepathically picking up on June’s feelings. If she never confessed to him, then why should he be obliged to confess to her? Especially since he’s probably (physically) way older than her; like maybe he just didn’t want to creep her out.
Momo: I know she’s annoying but her gluttony is just so relatable. She’s still creepy tho.
DJ Coo: I don’t know what purpose he serves in relation to the plot, but at least they bothered to give him a backstory. He is the first in a long line of characters whose skin tone randomly changed....
Jin: What a jerk! But he's so funny.
I would love to hear other people's thoughts, if they want to share

Thank You, Disney Lucasfilm… For Destroying My Dreams
Warning: longer post.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So… I watched The Rise of Skywalker on Disney+ a few weeks ago. Again.
Sigh.
I guess it has its good sides. But professional critics tend to dislike it and even the general audience doesn’t go crazy for it. I wonder why?
  The Fantasy
When his saga became a groundbreaking pop phenomenon in the 1970es, George Lucas reportedly said that he wanted to tell fairy tales again in world that no longer seemed to offer young people a chance to grow up with them. The fact that his saga was met with such unabashed, international enthusiasm proves that he was right: people long for fairy tales no matter how old they are and what culture they belong to.
“Young people today don’t have a fantasy life anymore, not the way we did… All they’ve got is Kojak and Dirty Harry. All the films they see are movies of disasters and insecurity and realistic violence.” (George Lucas)
I’ve been a Star Wars fan for more than thirty years. I love the Original Trilogy but honestly it did not make me dream much, perhaps because when I saw it the trilogy was already complete. The Prequel Trilogy also did not inspire my fantasy.
The Last Jedi accomplished something that no TV show, book or film had managed in years: it made me dream. The richness of colorful characters, multifaceted themes, unexpected developments, intriguing relationships was something I had not come across in a long time: it fascinated me. I felt like a giddy teenager reading up meta’s, writing my own and imagining all sorts of beautiful endings for the saga for almost two years.
So if there’s something The Rise of Skywalker can pride itself on for me, it’s that it crushed almost every dream I had about it. The few things I had figured out – Rey’s fall to the Dark, Ben Solo’s redemption, the connection between them - did not even make me happy because they were tainted by the flatness of the storytelling reducing the Force to a superpower again (like the general audience seems to believe it is), and its deliberate ignoring of almost all messages of The Last Jedi.
Many fans of the Original Trilogy also were disillusioned by the saga over the decades and ranted at the studios for “destroying their childhood”. Now we, the fans of the sequels and in particular of The Last Jedi, are in the same situation… but the thought doesn’t make the pill much easier to swallow. What grates on my nerves is the feeling that someone trampled on my just newly found dreams like a naughty child kicking a doll’s house apart. Why give us something to dream of in the first place, then? To a certain extent I can understand that many fans would angrily assume that Disney Lucasfilm made the Sequel Trilogy for the purpose of destroying their idea of the saga. The point is that they had their happy ending, while every dream the fans of the Sequel Trilogy may have had was shattered with this unexpectedly flat and hollow final note.
I know many fans who dislike the Prequel Trilogy heartily. I also prefer the Original Trilogy, but I find the prequels all right in their own way, also since I gave them some thought. However, it can’t be denied that they lack the magic spark which made the Original Trilogy so special. Which makes sense since they are not a fairy tale but ultimately a tragedy, but in my opinion it’s the one of the main reasons why the Prequel Trilogy never was quite so successful, or so beloved.
Same goes for Rogue One, Solo, or Clone Wars. They’re ok in their way, but not magical.
The sequel trilogy started quite satisfyingly with The Force Awakens, but for me, the actual bomb dropped with The Last Jedi. Reason? It was a magical story. It had the spark again that I had missed in the new Star Wars stories for decades! And it was packed full of beautiful messages and promises.
The Force is not a superpower belonging solely to the Jedi Anyone can be a hero. Even the greatest heroes can fail, but they will still be heroes. Hope is like the sun: if you only believe in it when you see it you’ll never make it through the night. Failure is the greatest teacher. It’s more important to save the light than to seem a hero. No one is never truly gone. War is only a machine. Dark Side and Light Side can be unbeatable if they are allies. Save what you love instead of destroying what you hate.
Naively, I assumed the trilogy would continue and end in that same magical way. And then came The Rise of Skywalker… which looks and feels like a Marvel superhero story at best and an over-long videogame at worst.
Chekov’s Gun
“Remove everything that has no relevance to the story. If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it’s not going to be fired, it shouldn’t be hanging there.”
(Anton Chekov, 1860 - 1904)
If you show an important looking prop and don’t put it to use, it leaves the audience feeling baffled. There is a huge difference between a story’s setup, and the audience’s feeling of entitlement. E.g. many viewers expected Luke to jump right back into the fray in Episode VIII, because that’s what a hero does, isn’t it? The cavalry comes and saves the day. And instead, we met a disillusioned elderly hermit who is tired of the ways of the Jedi. But there was no actual reason for disappointment: in Episode VII it was very clearly said (through Han, his best friend) that Luke had gone into exile on purpose, feeling responsible for his failure in teaching a new generation of Jedi. It would have been more than stupid to show him as an all-powerful and all-knowing man who kills the bad guys. Sorry but who expected that was a victim to his own prejudice.
A promise left unfulfilled is a different story. The Last Jedi set up a lot of promises that didn’t come true in The Rise of Skywalker: Balance as announced by the Jedi temple mosaic, a new Jedi Order hinted at by Luke on Crait, a good ending for Ben and Rey set up by the hand-touching scene which was opposite to Anakin’s and Padmés wedding scene. Many fans were annoyed about the Canto Bight sequence. I liked it because it felt like the set-up for a lot of important stuff: partnership between Finn and Rose whom we see working together excellently, freedom for the enslaved children (one of whom is Force-sensitive), DJ and Rose expressing what makes wars in general foolish and beside the point. So if we, the fans of Episode VIII, now feel angry and let down, I daresay it’s not due to entitlement. We were announced magical outcomes and not just pew-pew.
The Star Wars saga never repeated itself but always developed and enlarged its themes, so it was to be expected that delving deeper, uncomfortable truths would come out: wars don’t start out of nowhere, and they don’t flare up and continue for decades for the same reason. In order to find Balance, the Jedi’s and the Skywalker family’s myths needed to be dismantled. Which is not necessarily bad as long it is explained how things came to this, and a better alternative is offered. The prequels explained the old political order and the beginnings of the Skywalker family, and announced that the next generation would do better. The sequels hardly explained anything about the 30 years that passed since our heroes won the battle against the Empire, and while The Last Jedi hinted at the future a lot, The Rise of Skywalker seemed to make a point of ignoring all of it.
  The Skywalker Family Is Obliterated. Why?
Luke was proven right that his nephew would mean the end of everything he loved. The lineage of the Chosen One is gone. His grandson had begun where Vader had ended - tormented, pale and with sad eyes - and he met the same fate. Luke, Han, Leia, all sacrificed themselves to bring Ben Solo back for nothing. Him being the reincarnation of the Chosen One and getting a new chance should have been meaningful for all of them; instead, he literally left the scepter to Rey who did nothing to deserve it: merely because she killed the Bad Guy does not mean she will do a better job than the family whose name and legacy she proudly takes over.
Tumblr media
I do hope there was a good reason if the sequels did not tell “The New Adventures of Luke, Leia and Han” and instead showed us a broken family on the eve of its wipeout. It would have been much easier, and more fun for the audience, to bring the trio back again after a few years and pick up where they had left. Instead we had to watch their son, nephew and heir go his grandfather’s way - born with huge power, branded as Meant to Be Dangerous from the start, tried his best to be a Jedi although he wanted to be a pilot, never felt accepted, abandoned in the moment of his greatest need, went to his abuser because he was the only one to turn to, became a criminal, his own family (in Anakin’s case: Obi-Wan and Yoda) trained the person who was closest to him to kill him, sacrificed himself for this person and died. And in his case, it’s particularly frustrating because Kylo Ren wasn’t half as impressive a villain as Vader, and Ben Solo had a very limited time of heroism and personal fulfilment, contrarily to Anakin when he was young.
The impact of The Rise of Skywalker was traumatic for some viewers. I know of adolescents and adults, victims of family abandonment and abuse, who identified with Ben: they were told that you can never be more than the sum of your abuse and abandonment, and that they’re replaceable if they’re not “good”. Children identifying with Rey were told that their parents might sell them away for “protection”. Rey was not conflicted, she had a few doubts but overall, she was cool about everything she did, so she got everything on a silver platter; that’s why as a viewer, after a while you stopped caring for her. Her antagonist was doomed from birth because he dared to question the choices other people made for him. It seems that in the Star Wars universe, you can only “rise” if you’re either a criminal but cool because you’ve always got a bucket over your head (Vader / the Mandalorian) or are a saint-like figure (Luke / Rey).
One of Obi-Wan’s first actions in A New Hope is cutting off someone’s arm who was only annoying him; Han Solo, ditto. These were no acts of self-defense. The Mandalorian is an outlaw. Yet they are highly popular. Why? Because they always keep their cool, so anything they do seems justified. Young Anakin was hated, Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen attacked for his portrayal. For the same reason many fans feel that Luke is the least important of the original trio although basically the Original Trilogy is his story: it seems the general audience hates nothing more than emotionality in a guy. They want James Bond, Batman or Indiana Jones as the lead. Padmé loved Anakin because she always saw the good little boy he once was in him; his attempts at impressing her with his flirting or his masculinity failed. Kylo tried to impress Rey with his knowledge and power, but she fled from him - she wanted the gentle, emphatic young man who had listened to her when she felt alone. Good message. But both died miserably, and Ben didn’t even get anything but a kiss. Realizing that his “not being as strong as Darth Vader” might actually be a strength of its own would have meant much more.
The heroes of the Original Trilogy had their adventures together and their happy ending; the heroes of the Prequel Trilogy also had good times and accomplishments in their youth, before everything went awry. Rey, Finn and Poe feel like their friendship hardly got started; Rose was almost obliterated from the narrative; and Ben Solo seems to have had only one happy moment in his entire life. Of course it’s terrible that he committed patricide (even if it was under coercion), but Anakin / Vader himself had two happy endings in the Prequel Trilogy before he became the monster we know so well. Not to mention Clone Wars, where he has heroic moments unnumbered.
The Skywalker family is obliterated without Balance in the Force, and the young woman who inherited all doesn’t seem to have learned any lesson from all this. The Original Trilogy became a part of pop culture among other things because its ending was satisfying. We can hardly be expected to be satisfied with an ending where our heroes are all dead and the heir of their worst enemy takes over. What good was the happy ending of the Original Trilogy for if they didn’t learn enough from their misadventures to learn how to protect one single person - their son and nephew, their future?
For a long time, I also thought that the saga was about Good vs. Evil. Watching the prequels again, I came to the conclusion that it is rather about Love vs. War. And now, considering as a whole, I believe it to be essentially Jedi against Skywalker. The ending, as it is now, says that both fractions lost: they annihilated one another, leaving a third party in charge, who believes to be both but actually knows very little about them.
Star Wars and Morality
After 9 films and 42 years, it still is not possible to make the general audience accept that it is wrong to divide people between Good and Evil in the first place. The massive rejection of both prequels and sequels, which have moral grey zones galore, shows it.
It is also not possible without being accused of actual blasphemy in the same fandom, to say the plain truth that no Skywalker ever was a Jedi at heart. As their name says, they’re pilots. Luke was the last and strongest of all Jedi because he always was first and foremost himself. Anakin was crushed by the Jedi’s attempts to stifle his feelings. His grandson, too. A Force-sensitive person ought to have the choice whether they want to be a Jedi or not; they ought not to be taught to suppress their emotions and live only on duty, without really caring for other people; and they ought to grow up feeling in a safe and loving environment, not torn away from their families in infancy, indoctrinated and provided with a light sabre (a deadly weapon) while they’re still small. A Jedi order composed of child soldiers or know-it-all’s does not really help anybody.
The original Star Wars saga was about love and friendship; although many viewers did not want to understand that message. The prequels portrayed the Jedi as detached and arrogant and Anakin Skywalker sympathetically, a huge disappointment for who only accepts stories of the “lonesome cowboy” kind. The Last Jedi was so hated that The Rise of Skywalker backpedaled: sorry, of course you’re right, here you have your “hero who knows everything better and fixes everything for you on a silver platter”. The embarrassing antihero, who saves the girl who was the only person showing him some human compassion, can die miserably in the process and is not even mourned.
Honestly: I was doubtful whether it would be adequate to give Ben Solo a happy ending after the patricide. I guess letting him die was the easiest way out for the authors to escape censorship. (I even wrote this in a review on amazon about The Last Jedi, before I delved deeper into the saga’s themes.) The messages we got now are even worse.
Kylo Ren / Ben Solo
A parent can replace a child if they’re not the way they expect them to be. A victim of lifelong psychical and physical abuse can only find escape in death, whether he damns or redeems himself. An introspective, sensitive young man is a loser no matter how hard he tries either way. A whole family can sacrifice itself to save their heir, he dies anyway.
Rey
Self-righteousness is acceptable as long as you find a scapegoat for your own failings. Overconfidence justifies anything you do. You can’t carve your way as a female child of “nobodies”, you have to descend from someone male and powerful even if that someone is the devil incarnate. You are a “strong female” if you choose to be lonely; you need neither a partner nor friends.
In General
Star Wars is not about individual choices, loyalty, friendship and love, it is a classic Western story with a lonesome cowboy (in this case: cowgirl) at its centre. Satisfied?
Tumblr media
The father-son-relationship between Vader and Luke mirrors the Biblical story of Cain and Abel, saying that whoever we may want to kill is, in truth, our kin, which makes a clear separation in Good and Evil impossible. The “I am your father” scene is so infamous by now that even non-fans are aware of it; but this relationship between evil guy and good guy, as well as the plot turns where the villain saves the hero and that the hero discards his weapon are looked upon rather as weird narrative quirks instead of a moral.
In  an action movie fan, things are simple: good guy vs. bad guy, the good guy (e.g. James Bond may be a murderer and a misogynist, but that’s ok because he’s cool about it) kills the bad guy, ka-boom, end of story. But Star Wars is a parable, an ambitious project told over decades of cinema, and a multilayered story with recurring themes.
A fairy tale ought to have a moral. The moral of both Original Trilogy and Prequel Trilogy was compassionate love - choose it and you can end a raging conflict, reject it and you will cause it. What was the moral of the Sequel Trilogy? You can be the offspring of the galaxy’s worst terror and display a similar attitude, but pose as a Jedi and kill unnecessarily, and it’s all right; descend from Darth Vader (who himself was a victim long before he became a culprit) and whether you try to become a Jedi trained by Luke Skywalker or a Sith trained by his worst enemy, you will end badly?
Both original and prequel trilogy often showed “good” people making bad choices and the “bad ones” making the right choices. To ensure lasting peace, no Force user ought to be believe that he must choose one side and then stick to it for the rest of his life: both sides need one another. The prequels took 3 films to convey this message, though not saying so openly. The Last Jedi said it out clearly - and the authors almost had their heads ripped off by affronted fans, resulting in The Rise of Skywalker’s fan service. It’s not like Luke, Han and Leia were less heroic in the Sequel Trilogy, on the contrary, they gave everything they had to their respective cause. They were not united, and they were more human than they had once been. Apparently, that’s an affront.
The Jedi are no perfect heroes and know-it-all’s and they never were, the facts are there for everyone to see. Padmé went alone and pregnant to get her husband out of Mustafar - and she almost succeeded - although she knew what he had done and that he was perfectly capable of it (he had told her of the Tusken village massacre himself) because she still saw the good little boy he had been in him; Obi-Wan left him amputated and burning in the lava, although he had raised Anakin like a small brother and the latter had repeatedly saved his life. But Padmé was not a Jedi, so I guess she still had some human decency. Neither Obi-Wan nor Yoda lifted a finger for the oppressed populations of the galaxy during the Empire, waiting instead for Anakin’s son to grow up so they could trick him into committing patricide. Neither Luke nor Leia did anything for their own son and nephew while he became the scourge of the galaxy, damning his soul by committing crime after crime. On Exegol, Rey heard the voices of all Jedi encouraging her to fight Palpatine to death. After that, they left her to die alone, and the alleged “bad guy”, who had already saved her soul from giving in to Palpatine’s lures, had to save her life by giving her his own. The Jedi merely know that “their side” has to win, no matter the cost for anyone’s life, sanity, integrity or happiness.
Excuse me, these are simple facts. How anyone can still believe that the Jedi were super-powerful heroes who always win or all-knowing wizards who are always right is beyond me. Luke, the last and strongest of them, like a bright flickering of light before the ultimate end, showed us that the best of men can fail. There is nothing wrong with that in itself. But it is wrong and utterly frustrating when all of the failure never leads to anything better. If Rey means to rebuild the Jedi order to something better than it was, there was no hint at that whatsoever.
  And What Now?
The Last Jedi hit theatres only 2 years before The Rise of Skywalker, and I can’t imagine that the responsible authors all have forgotten how to make competent work in the meantime; more so considering that Solo or The Mandalorian are solid work. Episode IX is thematically so painfully flat it seems like they wanted us to give up on the saga on purpose. The last instalment of a 42-year-old saga ought to have been the best and most meaningful. I had heard already decades ago that the saga was supposed to have 9 chapters, so I was not among who protested against the sequels thinking that they had been thought up to make what had come before invalid. I naively assumed a larger purpose. But Episode IX only seems to prove these critics perfectly right.
The last of the flesh and blood of the Chosen One is dead without having “finished what his grandfather started”?
Still no Balance in the Force?
And worst of all, Palpatine’s granddaughter taking over, having proven repeatedly that she is not suited for the task?
Sorry, this “ending” is absurd. I have read fanfiction that was better written and more interesting. And, most of all, less depressing. I was counting on a conclusion that showed that the Force has all colours and nuances, and that it’s not limited to the black-and-white view “we against them”. That’s the ending all of us fans would have deserved, instead of catering the daddy issues of the part of the audience who doesn’t want stories other than those of the “lonesome cowboy” kind. I myself grew up on Japanese anime, maybe that’s one of the reasons why I can’t stand guys like James Bond or Batman and why I think you don’t need “a great hero who fixes the situation” but that group spirit and communication are way more important.
It was absolutely unexpected that Disney, the production company whose trademark are happy endings and family stories, would end this beloved and successful saga after almost half a century on such a hollow note. Why tell first a beautiful fairy tale and then leave the audience on a hook for 35 years to continue first with a tragedy (which at least was expected) and then with another (unexpected one)? And this story is supposed to be for children? Like children would understand all of the subtext, and love sad, cautionary tales. Children, as well as the general audience, first of all want to be entertained! No one wants to watch the legendary Skywalker family be obliterated and a Palpatine take over. The sequels were no fun anymore; we’ve been left with another open ending and hardly an explanation about what happened in the 30 years in between. If you want to tell a cautionary tale, you should better warn the general audience beforehand.
Tumblr media
The Original Trilogy is so good because it’s entertaining and offers room for thought for who wants to think about its deeper themes, and also leaves enough space for dreams. Same goes for the first two films of the Sequel Trilogy; but precisely the last, which should have wrapped up the saga, leaves us with a bitter aftertaste and dozens of questions marks.
We as the audience believe that a story, despite the tragic things that happen, must go somewhere; we get invested into the characters, we root for them, we want to see them happy in the end. (The authors of series like Girls, How I Met Your Mother or Game of Thrones ought to be reminded of that, too.) I was in contact with children and teenagers saying that the Sequel Trilogy are “boring”; and many, children or adults, who were devastated by its concluson. There is a difference between wanting to tell a cautionary tale and playing the audience for fools. This trilogy could have become legendary like the Original Trilogy, had it fulfilled its promises instead of “keeping it low” with its last chapter. Who watches a family or fantasy story or a romantic / comedic sitcom wants to escape into another world, not to be hit over his head with a mirror to his own failings, and the ones of the society he’s living in. Messages are all right, but they ought not to go at the cost of the audience’s satisfaction about the about the people and narrative threads they have invested in for years.
This isn’t a family story: but children probably didn’t pester the studios with angry e-mails and twitter messages etc. They simply counted on a redemption arc and happy ending, and they were right, because they’re not as stupid as adults are. I have read and watched many a comment from fans who hate The Last Jedi. Many of these fans couldn’t even pinpoint what their rage was all about, they only proved to be stuck with the original trilogy and unwilling to widen their horizon. But at least their heroes had had their happy ending: The Rise of Skywalker obliterated the successes of all three generations of Skywalkers.
If the film studios wanted to tease us, they’ve excelled. If they expect the general audience to break their heads over the sequels’ metaphysics, they have not learned from the reactions to the prequels that most viewers take these films at face value. Not everybody is elbows-deep in the saga, or willing to research about it for months, and / or insightful enough to see the story’s connections. Which is why many viewers frown at the narrative and believe the Sequel Trilogy was just badly written. This trilogy could have become legendary like the Original Trilogy, had it fulfilled its promises instead of “keeping it low” with its last chapter. As it is now, the whole trilogy is hanging somewhere in the air, with neither a past nor a future to be tied in with.
The prequels already had the flaw of remaining too obscure: most fans are not aware that Anakin had unwillingly killed his wife during the terrible operation that turned him into Darth Vader, sucking her life out of her through the Force: most go by “she died of a broken heart”. So although one scene mirrors the other, it is not likely that most viewers will understand what Rey’s resurrection meant. And: Why did Darth Maul kill Qui-Gon Jinn? What did the Sith want revenge for? Who was behind Shmi’s abduction and torture? Who had placed the order for the production of the clones, and to what purpose? We can imagine or try to reconstruct the answers, but nothing is confirmed by the story itself.
The sequels remained even more in the dark, obfuscating what little explanation we got in The Rise of Skywalker with quick pacing and mind-numbing effects.
Kylo Ren had promised his grandfather that “he would finish what he started”: he did not. Whatever one can say of this last film, it did not bring Balance in the Force. What’s worse, the subject was not even breached. It was hinted at by the mosaic on the floor of the Prime Jedi Temple on Ahch-To, but although Luke and Rey were sitting on its border, they never seemed to see what was right under their noses. It remains inexplicable why it was there for everyone to see in the first place.
Tumblr media
We might argue that Ben finished what his grandfather started by killing (or better, causing the death of) the last Jedi, who this one couldn’t kill because he was his own son; but leaving Rey in charge, he helped her finish what her grandfather had started. The irony could hardly be worse.
Episode IX looks like J.J. Abrams simply completed what they started with Episode VII, largely ignoring the next film as if it was always planned to do so. We, the angry and disappointed fans of The Last Jedi, may believe it was due to some of the general audience’s angry backlash, but honestly: the studios aren’t that dumb. They had to know that Episode VIII would be controversial and that many fans would hate it. The furious reactions were largely a disgrace, but no one can make me believe that they were totally unexpected. Nor can anyone convince me that The Rise of Skywalker was merely an answer to the small but very loud part of the audience who hated The Last Jedi: a company with the power and the returns of Disney Lucasfilm does not need to buckle down before some fan’s entitlement and narrowmindedness out of fear of losing money. And if they do, it was foolish to make Rey so perfect that she becomes almost odious, and to let the last of the Skywalker blood die a meaningless death. (Had he saved the Canto Bight children and left them with Rey, at least he would have died with honor; and she, the child left behind by her parents, would have had a task to dedicate herself to.)
The only reason I can find for this odd ending is that it’s meant to prepare the way for Rian Johnson’s new trilogy, which - hopefully - will finally be about Balance. We as the audience don’t know what’s going on behind the doors. Filmmaking is a business like any other, i.e. based on contracts; and I first heard that Rian Johnson had negotiated a trilogy of his own since before Episode VIII hit theatres. Maybe he kept all the rights of intellectual property to his own film, including that he would finish the threads he picked up and close the narrative circles he opened, and only he; and that his alleged working on “something completely different” is deliberately misleading.
Some viewers love the original trilogy, some love the prequels, some like both; but I hardly expect anyone to love the sequel trilogy as a whole. What with the first instalment “letting the past die, killing it if they had to”, the second hinting at a promising future and the third patched on at the very last like some sort of band-aid, it was not coherent. I heard the responsible team for Game of Thrones even dropped their work, producing a dissatisfying, quickly sewn together last season, for this new Star Wars project and thereby disappointing millions of GoT fans; I hope they are aware of the expectations they have loaded upon them. George Lucas’ original trilogy had its faults, but but though there was no social media yet in his time, at least he was still close enough to the audience to give them what they needed, if not necessarily wanted. (Some fans can’t accept that Luke and Leia are siblings to this day, even if honestly, it was the very best plot twist to finish their story in a satisfying way.)
I’m hoping for now that The Last Jedi was not some love bombing directed at the more sentimental viewers but a promise that will be fulfilled. “Wrapping up” a saga by keeping the flattest, least convincing chapter for last is bad form. Star Wars did not become a pop phenomenon by accident, but because the original story was convincing and satisfying. Endings like these will hardly make anyone remember a story fondly, on the contrary, the audience will move to another fandom to forget their disappointment.
On a side note, I like The Mandalorian, exactly for the reason that that is a magical story; not as much as the original trilogy, but at least a little. Of course, I’m glad it was produced. But it’s a small consolation prize after the mess that supposedly wrapped up the original saga after 9 films.
We’re Not Blind, You Know…
- Though Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) has Darth Vader’s stature, his facial features are practically opposite to Vader’s creepy mask. This should have foreshadowed that his life should have gone the other way, instead of more or less repeating itself. - As a villain Kylo was often unconvincing; by all logic he should have been a good father figure. (Besides, Star Wars films or series never work unless there is a strong father or father figure at their center.)
- Like Vader, Kylo Ren was redeemed, but not rehabilitated. Who knows who may find his broken mask somewhere now and, not knowing the truth, promise “I will finish what you started”. - The hand-touching scene on Ahch-To which was visually opposite to Anakin’s and Padmé’s should not have predicted another tragedy but a happy ending for them. - The Canto Bight sequence was announcing reckoning for the weapon industry and freedom for the enslaved children. It also showed how well Finn and Rose fit together. - Rey was a good girl before she started on her adventures. Like Anakin or Luke, she did not need to become a Jedi to be strong or generous or heroic. - Rey summons Palpatine after one year of training. Kylo practically begged for his grandfather’s assistance for years, to no avail. Her potential for darkness is obviously much stronger. - Dark Rey’s light sabre looked like a fork, Kylo’s like a cross. - The last time all Jedi and Sith were obliterated leaving only Luke in charge, things went awry. Now we have a Palpatine masquerading as a Skywalker and believing she’s a Jedi. Rey is a usurper and universally cheered after years of war, like her grandfather. - The broom boy of Canto Bight looked like he was sweeping a stage and announcing “Free the stage, it’s time for us, the children.”
Rey failed in all instances where Luke had proved himself (so much for feminism and her being a Mary Sue): - Luke had forgiven his father despite all the pain he had inflicted on him. She stabbed the „bad guy”, who had repeatedly protected and comforted her, to death. - Luke never asked Vader to help the Rebellion or to turn to the Light Side, he only wanted him back as his father. She assumed that you could make Ben Solo turn, give up the First Order and join the Resistance for her. She thought of her friends and of her own validation, not of him. - Luke had made peace by choosing peace. Rey fought until the bitter end. - Luke had thrown his weapon away before Palpatine. Rey picked up a second weapon. (And both of them weren’t even her own.) - Luke had mourned his dead father. Rey didn’t shed a tear for the man she is bonded to by the Force. - Luke went back to his friends to celebrate the new peace with them. Rey went back letting everyone celebrate her like the one who saved the galaxy on her own, she who were tempted to become the new evil ruler of the galaxy and had to rely on the alleged Bad Guy to save both her soul and her body. - Luke had embodied compassion when Palpatine was all about hatred. Where he chose love and faith in his father, she chose violence and fear. - Luke had briefly fallen prey to the Dark Side but it made him realize that he had no right to judge his father. Rey’s fall to the Dark Side did not make her wiser. - Rey has no change of mind on finding out that she’s Palpatine’s flesh and blood, nor after she has stabbed Kylo. Luke had to face himself on learning that he had almost become a patricide. Rey does not have to face herself: the revelation of her ancestry is cushioned by Luke’s and Leia’s support. Rey is and remains an uncompromising person who hardly learns from her faults.
This is cheating on the audience. And it's not due to feminism or Rey being some sort of “Mary Sue” the way many affronted fans claim. Kylo never was truly a villain, Rey is not a heroine, and this is not a happy ending. The Jedi, with their stuck-up conviction “only we must win”, have failed all over again. The Skywalker family was obliterated leaving their worst enemy in charge.  Rey is supposed to be a “modern” heroine which young girls can take as an example? No, thank you. Not after this last film has made of her. Padmé was a much better role model, combining intelligence with strength and goodness and also female grace. The world does not need entitled female brats.
Bonus: What Made The Rise of Skywalker a Farce
- The Force Awakens was an ok film and The Last Jedi (almost) a masterpiece. The Rise of Skywalker was a cartoon. No wonder a lot of the acting felt and looked wooden. - “I will earn your brother’s light sabre.” She’s holding his father’s sabre. - Kylo in The Last Jedi: “Let the past die. Kill it if, you have to.” Beginning with me? - Rey ends up on Tatooine. - The planet both Anakin and Luke ardently wanted to leave. - Luke had promised his nephew that he would be around for him. - Nope. - Rey had told Ben that she had seen his future. What future was that - “you will be a hero for ten minutes, get a kiss and then die? (And they didn’t even get a love theme.) - “The belonging you seek is not behind you, it is ahead.” On a desert planet with a few ghosts. What of the ocean she used to dream about? - Ben and Rey were both introduced as two intensely lonely people searching for belonging. We learn they are a Force dyad, and then they are torn apart again. - Why was Ben named for Obi-Wan Kenobi in the first place, if they have absolutely nothing in common? - The Throne Room battle scene in The Last Jedi was clearly showing that when they are in balance, Light Side and Dark Side are unbeatable. Why did the so-called “Light Side” have to win again, in The Rise of Skywalker, instead of finding balance? - Luke’s scene on Ahch-To was so ridiculously opposite to his attitude in The Last Jedi that by now I believe he was a fantasy conjectured by her. (Like Ben’s vision of his father.) - Anakin’s voice among the other Jedi’s. - He was a renegade, for Force’s sake. - The kiss between two females. - More fan service, to appease those who pretended that not making Poe and Finn a couple was a sign of homophobia. - We see the Knights of Ren, but we learn absolutely nothing about them or Kylo’s connection with them. - Rose Tico’s invalidation. - A shame after what the actress had gone through because for the fans she was “not Star-Wars-y” (chubby and lively instead of wiry and spitfire). - Finn’s and Rose’s relationship. - Ignored without any explanation. - Finn may or may not be Force-sensitive. - If he is: did he abandon the First Order not due to his own free will but because of some higher willpower? Great. - General Hux was simply obliterated. - In The Force Awakens he was an excellent foil to Kylo Ren; no background story, no humanization for him. - Chewie’s and 3PO’s faked deaths. - Useless additional drama. - The Force Awakens was a bow before the classic trilogy. The Rise of Skywalker kicked its remainders to pieces. - The Prequel Trilogy ended with hope, the Original Trilogy with love. The Sequel Trilogy ends on a blank slate. - “We are what they grow beyond.” The characters of the Sequel Trilogy did not grow beyond the heroes of the Original Trilogy. - The Jedi did not learn from their mistakes and were obliterated. The Skywalker family understood the mistakes they had made too late. Now they’re gone, too.
  P.S. While I was watching The Rise of Skywalker my husband came in asked me since when I like Marvel movies. I said “That’s not a Marvel movie, it’s Star Wars.” I guess that says enough.
P.P.S. For the next trilogy, please at least let the movies hit theatres in May again instead of December. a) It’s tradition for Star Wars films, b) Whatever happens, at least you won’t ruin anyone’s Christmases. Thank you.
TL;DR BIO
Moving from one place to another his whole life, Leo was forced has learned to go with the flow. While his blasé attitude may throw off some, he actually cares very deeply for those around him. He just has a funny way of showing it sometimes.
FULL BIO
Leo didn’t always live in Shrike Heights. Often reminiscing on a time before when his father was deployed overseas in Europe. His time across the pond was romantic, some would even call it idyllic. Except he never stayed in one spot long enough to unpack his suitcase. While he can look back at the memories as rather bohemian, it’s not hard to see how he developed some attachment issues.
It wasn’t until he was fifteen that The General finally moved them back to the US. Despite the fact that he said that the move would be permanent, part of Leo never fully let himself settle in the town. His belongings to a minimal, a modern trend he read in a magazine but also for light packing. His attachments never lasting longer than a few weeks at a time. Leo’s reputation in town was not one that was particularly clean nor did he seem to care that much about it.
Leo doesn’t care about much. However, the one thing he is passionate about is music. It was his one constant in life. No matter where you went, a good beat was universal. You didn’t even have to know the words. He had never really put much thought into his career, honestly it was all about being at the right place at the right time. One day he was spinning some discs in a club for free drink tickets and the next he has his own afternoon radio show.
 It’s crazy how the universe works like that. However, the universe has a way of balancing itself out and unfortunately for Leo, there’s still some karma he is still needs to be paid.
Delusion (1/5)
Trigger Warning: references to alcohol
Summary: she was the only girl in his band whose singing he loved so much. She was the person he truly respected. Andy Miles was someone Hank Williams had an unrelenting obsession with.
Tumblr media
Chapter one: Delays
POV Hank
His head was pounding. A haunting rhythm beat against the light pounding in his head. It hurt, and Hank just didn't understand how he'd ever woken up. He had never been so drunk before, not even counting the fact that he was a huge alcoholic drinker.
Yet last night he had exceeded even his own expectations. A slight dryness in his mouth was present even after he had drunk the whole glass of water that his mother had placed in front of him.
Closing his eyes tightly, straining his lids, Williams suddenly opened them, trying to blink before entering the studio where he had to play early in the morning for a small pittance.
Not that he complained much about it. No, he certainly did not want to get up from the cozy bed that kept warm and free himself from the embrace of his "beloved" wife, but his youthful heart still warmed the dream that one day he would step over the threshold of an ordinary musician and be able to achieve something worthwhile. Perhaps he wanted a confession?
It was lucky, at least, that the nausea did not reach him, since he was sure that the alcohol in his stomach would definitely be able to get out, only in an unusual way. And he didn't want to be crouching by the toilet, trying to control himself, and hearing his mother talk about how irresponsible he and Audrey, his wife, were that she didn't even have simple pills.
Pushing the brown door open with the shoulder of his free hand, Hank had already guessed how loud Mr. Pill's voice would be when he complained about being late. It doesn't matter, though. Will these few minutes play anything for airtime?
"Hi," Hank says hoarsely, feeling very tired. Yesterday he came back so late that he just couldn't do anything anymore. How long had he been asleep? A couple of hours?
Williams looked from the black-and-white tiled floor to the boys, his mouth slightly open. They looked a little rumpled, as did Hank himself. It was obvious that they were hungover, too, especially since some of them were smoking. He breathed in the smell. Marlboro? Or Chesterfield? His mind was still too foggy to accurately detect the smell of cigarettes.
The guy blinked a couple of times, as if trying to make sense of what was happening. It seemed that something was missing for an ordinary morning. It was always the same and repeated day after day. The audience apparently liked his program too much.
"Good morning, boss," came the soft voice of Sammy, who was sitting on a dark brown sofa propped up against the wall, his feet propped up on a small table. A young guy who was a guitarist in his band. He was very young, but Hank immediately considered him a good addition to the group.
"Hi, Hank," Don said, looking at the guy standing there, lighting a cigarette and rubbing his light red hair; parallel to that, the hand holding the cigarette, adjusting the glasses that were sticking up on his nose.
Williams grabs a small white mug and takes a sip of coffee. His eyes narrowed slightly. Cold coffee. Although, it is worth noting, it was refreshing, but so disgusting. Who can drink coffee cold?
Setting the cup down on the dark piano that didn't seem to have been used for a long time, Hank set the guitar case on a small, flimsy chair, taking out the instrument.
"Where's Andy?" the man asked as he took the guitar out of the hard gray case that barely fit in his car.
Andy Miles was the only girl who played in his band. She was the only one who comforted him after another quarrel with his wife. She was the only one who understood him. She was the one he had fallen in love with.
Hank didn't know if his feelings for Audrey were real, or if it was all just a multi-second infatuation. A joke that later turned into endless quarrels that always ended in nothing. However, meeting Andy definitely changed a lot in his life.
Hank could have been lyrical, but why? What is the point of expressing yourself in beautiful speeches, if you can convey it in light, superficial words? Although, if it were up to him, he would definitely dedicate the odes and all the songs that he allegedly composed for his wife to the girl of his dreams.
Clearly lost in thought, Hank was completely distracted, not even noticing that the guys were already tuning their instruments, preparing for the mat to fall on them.
"She's not here," he always had to bring his wife into the studio, pestering him about what she wanted to sing on his show. As if she could sing. As if she could do anything at all.
Hank sighed, lifting the guitar to the top and running his long fingers along the strings, wanting to adjust the rhythm and hear the sound he wanted to achieve.
I wish Andy would come soon.
"Williams," comes the loud voice of Howard Pill, heading toward the fearful Hank. He knew that his boss would speak loudly, but he did not foresee that his steely voice would be a headache. Why can't he keep his voice down? "You decided to spend 12 minutes of airtime? This shit won't go away, and you smell like a beer barrel; you all stink," Williams saw how angry the man was. Not that he would care about his anger. No, he would definitely take into account everything Howard was saying and try not to be late, but who knew this would happen today?
Do people have the right to choose what condition they wake up with in the morning? Anyway, at least let Mr. Pill take into account that he came at all. Otherwise, Hank could just drop the case and stay home.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Pill," the empty words coming out of Hank's mouth were just a defensive reaction. No, he was by no means sorry that he was late. Although listening to loud voices was a problem.
Still, it was a good thing that his mother had woken him up so early and made sure that he didn't disturb his wife's sleep. He certainly didn't want to have an increased headache when Audrey was hitting the high notes in the pen. The man blinked, looking up, trying to meet Mr. Pill's steady gaze.
"To me, these are empty words," his gaze was stern and he was clearly trying not to lose his temper. "We're working here, you idiot. And where is Miles?"
Williams pursed his lips, unable to find an answer. He knew about her love of being late, but even so, Andy was always on time. Maybe five minutes late, but Hank had the songs that could be played without another extra guitar. Although the sound of the girl's instrument has always been excellent.
"I'll throw her out of the show, I swear to God," Mr. Pill muttered softly, shaking his head and sighing. Did he dislike them that much? Or was he just jealous of the show's success? If that success ever existed.
Hank's attentive gaze followed his boss as he made his way to the recording department, a certain booth where audio tuning and recording takes place.
Right now, Hank wished Andy was here. Because I would have covered for him, going against Mr. Pill and his rules. Sometimes it seemed to Hank that she didn't care if she was on time or not. Hank was slightly weaker.
He could listen to all those menacing words being uttered against him, endure all this unthinkable humiliation, knowing that his boss would not remove this show. He knew how many listeners he had. But still, he rarely dared to say anything against his boss.
He was definitely attracted to Andy. And for the most part it was in the moral sense, because Williams himself rarely thought about the girl he loves physically. He wanted her, yes, but not in terms of sex. He didn't want a simple one-night stand. He wanted something unthinkable. He wanted pure and pure love. The kind of love his mother had told him about.
"Start the countdown," Howard Pill says, nodding his head in Hank's direction, and he just lifts his lip.
"Three, two, one," comes the clear voice of the DJ, who is already wearing headphones and completely immersed in his work, unlike the musicians, who are still hungover and intoxicated. Hank continued to feel sick.
With a deft step, Hank walked over to the microphone, smiling slightly, as if he didn't want the audience to know about the quarrels that were going on at the place they loved so much.
"Friends and listeners, I wish you a good early morning. This is Hank Williams and the Drifting Cowboys. We are very sorry that we started a little later. But yesterday we were picked up by the cops on Route 31..."
There was a slight chuckle. Hank turned his head in the direction of the sound, grinning slightly, already guessing who it was.
***
POV Andy
Feeling her legs begin to ache from running so fast, trying to get to the studio, Andy had never felt so anxious and overworked in her life.
The hangover after alcohol, she always endured steadfastly and her mind almost did not react to it, apparently already so accustomed to the dose received. No, of course, her head still ached, and her hands were constantly shaking from the alcohol, but she never felt an immediate nausea.
Her hangover was accompanied only by a headache and shaking hands, which would soon have to caress the strings of her favorite guitar, wanting to please the boss and the audience.
Pursing her lips, Miles took a quick, brisk step toward the necessary door. Unfortunately, the distance from her home to the studio was huge and so she had to wake up very early in the morning to at least have time to get there, which certainly did not please her.
She had never been flattered by the prospect of having to sleep through the early hours of the morning. And wake up for what? For the little money she lived on? Although, most likely, only the desire for the love of the public did not stop her.
She always wanted to be loved by people. She had always wanted to feel this need for human attention, for human adoration.
Blinking a couple of times, she paused at the dark door, knowing that she would probably hear Mr. Pill swear at her and threaten her when he told her that he would fire her from the show. Although these moments didn't really bother Andy.
She didn't give a damn about his opinion, which was completely out of line with hers. She would have taken it into account, but she would have continued to do things her own way. Besides, isn't that the beauty of life? Do whatever you want and not listen to people who write you some rules?
Andy chuckled, shaking her head and feeling her hands begin to shake. Again this period, if only to endure. She wished long ago that she had bought a cigarette, though she could have used one now.
"...But yesterday we were picked up by the cops on Highway 31... " came Hank's tired voice, and the girl chuckled, letting out a light and slightly hoarse chuckle. She immediately felt her friend's gaze on her and his reflected grin.
His band, which has so graciously accepted another under-performing musician into its already overstuffed line-up, dreaming that he could become famous. And this feeling in her never disappeared.
No, she often began to have feelings that it was worth putting a bolt on all this and stop, but what kept Miles from doing was believing in herself. Confidence had to be nurtured, but Andy had never felt humiliated in her life. The main credo in her life was that it was not worth giving up. Otherwise, it can turn into a disaster and bad consequences. Just like when I was a kid.
Quickly shaking her head in different directions, the girl mentally gave herself a slap on the head, feeling the burning gaze of Mr. Pill directed at her. Pulling out her guitar, the case that was currently laid on the bed, Andy looked at her boss, smiling a tight smile and walking with easy grace to the second free microphone.
"With my alcohol resistance," Andy suddenly chimed in, pulling her guitar over her neck and taking off her hat, exposing her short dark hair and running a hand through it, " I also apologize for starting so late. To be honest, my head is splitting."
Miles looked at Hank, as if telling him to continue. He nodded.
"I don't think you knew this, but yesterday we were performing in a small bar on the outskirts of town and, fortunately or unfortunately, we couldn't refuse the free alcohol offered," Hank chuckled, and there was a light laugh from the guys.
Andy grinned as she began to wrap the gauze around her fingers, not wanting them to hurt any more. It wasn't for her at all. Wrapping and protecting your fingers was an extremely important decision.
What would she do if her right hand wasn't protected? Her fingers would have been damaged.
The girl wrapped her arms around the guitar, leaning even closer to the low microphone.
"And now, anticipating your wishes, we will perform the song “Honky Tonkin'' for you. Hank wrote it not so long ago and we are sure that you will definitely like it."
Hank was a genius, and if Miles heard that, she would definitely say it was true. He was the man who continued to inspire her. The man who kept her on the case. The one who replaces her older brother.
