tka ep33 (s3 ep9)
Tumblr media
my favorite forever-17 baby T_T you look kind of generic here but i still love you
they really made some baffling sartorial decisions in this ep like what's the in-universe reason that li rui and qf are the only ones wearing ee team uniform but then when they go take the challenge qf literally changes out of his uniform to do so. i know narratively it's gonna be so that he can go look for yx at happy cafe but then why not just have him not wearing the uniform here.
also i'm sorry but what even is this tshirt sweater collared shirt qf would never. it's not even red.
tbh i miss clear plastic jacket qf.
anyway. the flashbacks! his expressions! wahhhhh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
despite all the other animation complaints, i think i like the fight animation in s3 more than in s2—they're more creative with the choreography which i really enjoy, that's something that you can only really get in this medium, that creative license with the game mechanics. in s2 i noticed they took a lot of shortcuts with like impact backgrounds and face closeups etc
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yx's expression when he realizes how much qf hates him at this moment 😭
i like this portrayal of the coaching match! obviously in the novel they can be much more subtle with it, vs here where yx has to point out things explicitly—but i like getting to know these specific details!
qf's angry voice 😭
Tumblr media
dm has this saved as his secret desktop wallpaper (sorry someone had to screencap it)
oooh yeah and i remember some of these moves from the trailers. man i love spear fights gotta be my fave cold weapon
Tumblr media
omg yx shaking out his hands 😭 also this def would've been a smoke break except we can't show yx smoking anymore lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
maybe in THIS universe qf will catch up to yx <- me, delusional
but no actually the editing for that whole chasing bit, the camera panning and the cuts and split screen—very nice very heart-breaking 🥺 god bb is just so efficient with storytelling like qf isn't even mentioned until now and then BAM heartwrenching backstory
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i love how thye convey the difference in time via the lighting... same street but just missed each other...
alrighttt but at least in this universe we must still get the cinematic punch yeahhhh wooooo
Tumblr media
the bgm for this whole ep is truly on point
Tumblr media
boo he didn't even fall over
ooh next ep preview has some fun shots im excited!!! everlasting! dawn rifle!

ED'S ON THE COVER!!!! oh my god i didn't think we'd see him in the comics already! i thought the previews from Chris we're all from later in the issues, i'm so glad Ed shows up this early!!
HE IS ON THE COVER AND HE LOOKS AWESOME!! I can’t wait to see what we get with him - it’ll be nice to see him in action on a mission because we didn’t see him do much other than teleporting people in S3 - I wanna see him kick some butt… though from Chris’s other Ed image - things might not go so smoothly for him…
I’M SO EXCITED FOR ISSUE #3!!!

I see that there isn’t much angel love for our little chihuahua Luke and Simeon! 😭 so May I request one where they ‘kidnapped’ MC into a special outing (and in the background, the brothers are crazy looking for her).
Rating: General Audiences
Archive Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Category: Gen
Fandom: Shall We Date?: Obey Me!
Characters: Leviathan (Shall We Date?: Obey Me!), Simeon (Shall We Date?: Obey Me!), Luke (Shall We Date?: Obey Me!), Main Character (Shall We Date?: Obey Me!)
Additional Tags: fluff, GN!Reader, takes place in S3
Summary: Simeon and Luke decide to take you on a small outing.
Word Count: 989
Tumblr media
Simeon hooked his arm into yours, a faint smile painted on his face as he began to lead you away from the little kiosk filled with random bobbles and trinkets you’d been looking at, “You seem to be a tad on the sullen side today. I think we may have just the thing to cheer you up. What about a nice little outing to something called a drive-in theatre?”
“You know you need a car for that, right? And a license?” Both things that you were pretty sure Simeon didn’t have.
The smile didn’t fade from his face, “We’ll figure that part out after you agree.”
“Please?” Luke’s wide eyes sparkled up at you, his hands clamped together and fingers interlaced in a plea.
You curse your weakness against his adorable puppy-eyes and sigh, “As long as it doesn’t get me thrown into an alternate universe, potentially eaten or killed by monsters, or involves Solomon’s cooking... that sounds nice, actually.”
“Excellent! I’ll let Lucifer know we have you.”
Luke’s eyes shifted from pleading to deep concern, “What do they put you through over there?” Were you in danger? Did you need help? He suddenly had many questions.
“Then I suppose we will need to acquire one of these human cars…"
You tilt your head toward Simeon, "How do you plan to do that?" It seemed near impossible given he barely knew how to use a phone, let alone drive a car (if he could even somehow get one).
"Don't concern yourself with the minor details." This was their day to take you out and he would take care of everything.
~~~~
He got a car. Simeon, an angel that could barely use a laptop, got a car and he knew how to drive it. Granted, he drove like an old man, but he was driving. Well, he actually wasn't driving and it wasn't a real car, but he would rather not explain the intricacies of using a glamour on an inanimate object to fool human eyes. The point was that he was able to get something that passed as a car for the outing.
"When does the movie start?" Luke's eyes looked at the large screen in wonder as he practically bounced in his seat.
"Usually after the advertisements for upcoming films." It was similar to a normal theatre aside from sitting in a car, really.
"I'm glad you're excited," Simeon laughed beside you while continuing to watch the previews play on the screen, "I heard that, unlike traditional theatres, it is customary to bring special snacks to these events."
"I guess, yeah."
"Does that mean I can get them out?" Now Luke was practically vibrating.
"This seems like the time, yes."
The absolute sound of joy that left his mouth as he dove into a small cooler full of baked goods and drinks was heartwarming. He'd worked so hard on these, especially given the last-minute plans you'd all made, and he handed them out almost as eagerly as he had made them.
You took the treat he handed you with a smile, "Are you sure?" Even though you already knew the answer was a solid yes. Baking was meant to be shared with loved ones, after all.
"You should move up, Luke. It'll be easier to see." Especially since he was so short.
It was cute how hurriedly he scampered toward the front seats, settling himself between you and Simeon just as the opening scene began to play.
~~~
The night had been fun. Amazing snacks, a decent film, and quality company. You almost couldn't believe it had gone so smoothly as the two angels pulled up in front of the basically-a-mansion the brothers called their temporary home.
"Are you sure you can't spend the night with us?" Luke asked as you stepped out of the 'car'.
"I don't have anything for a sleepover though."
"We can wait here for you…"
"Luke," Simeon chided, "They already said no."
"But…" He practically whimpered.
It almost feels like you kicked a puppy with how hurt he looked, "Well, I can't tonight, but I wouldn't mind having one another time."
And now his tail was wagging, "Really?"
"Really. As long as Simeon and Solomon don't mind."
The older angel gave a shrug and laughed from the driver's seat, "I would be glad to have you over. I also doubt Solomon would object."
"Then it's a date."
~~~
What in the world happened while you were away? The walls were soaked through and Levi was grumbling something under his breath as he ineffectively patted them with a towel.
"Lotan?" You asked as you shut the front door behind you, “What did Mammon do this time?”
His head whipped around to look at you, falling backward and scrambling to pick himself up, “You’re back!”
“Uhh, yeah?”
“Where’ve you been?” He staggered to his feet, coming closer and reaching out as if you were an illusion he was testing to see how real you were.
“With Simeon and Luke?”
“You couldn’t tell anyone that?” He bemoaned, turning away and returning to his arduous task.
“Simeon sent Lucifer a text. Why are you acting so weird?”
“Is that what that message was?” He thought Simeon had butt-dialed the entire thing given how poorly it read, “Whatever. I would just stay out of Lucifer’s way for a while. He was super angry when you wouldn’t pick up your DDD.”
It was a movie, of course you turned it off. Actually, you really should have turned it back on by now… Oh, crud, “How angry?”
“Well, he went out looking for you.”
So, very angry.
“Thanks for the warning.” Guess that meant you were going to your room and not coming out until Lucifer went to sleep… So in a week, “Where is everyone else?”
“Either helping him look or avoiding helping me,” except Mammon who had been assigned to dry off the upper floor, but that was another story.
Rating Penthouse: War In Life characters
I asked my followers on Instagram to give me Penthouse characters to rate and my thoughts about them so I thought to post it here as well. Now this is my personal opinion about how I feel about the characters and how much I will rate them
⚠️⚠️THIS CONTAINS A FEW SPOILERS⚠️⚠️
My Instagram: Tempobaek
Logan Lee
Tumblr media
10/10
Lemme just say I love him SO MUCH
LOGAN LEE BEST BOY
I absolutely loved his character and the fact that he was one of the few people who wants justice and is honest made me love him even more
Him playing Go Hu Dong was amazing as well and I didn't recognize him at all at first like he played it so well with the accent, costume and wig and everything
His accent and language switch in between English and the Busan accent Korean was so fucking sexy🥵
✨Mr. Joo✨
My man was also smart with his revenge
He was also serving amazing LOOKS every episode in the two seasons and I loved every single one of them
And I'm going to be honest here, after watching the preview for S2 ep13 his laugh was creepy in one of the clips and after reading a few theories I lowkey thought that he would be the next villian
I regret suspecting him now
But instead of that they gave us a bigger plot twist and blew up our man with a bomb😩
He literally went ✨LiGhT iT Up LiKe DyNaMiTe✨ (I'm so sorry)
I would've rather have him be a villian than die in the bomb
I MISS HIM ALREADY AND LOVE HIM SO MUCH😭
DID I MENTION THAT I LOVE HIM
Joo Seok Kyung
Tumblr media
7/10
Another one that annoyed me angered me so much🙄
Like she was ruthless and had no mercy when it came to bullying and putting people down that she thought were a rival or putting people down in general
She didn't change even when Rona died
She also went as far as to like cheat her way to win the Cheong Ah Art High School trophy and blackmailed Cheon Seojin to win the trophy
But there were times where she would show emotions and those would be often her break down and weak moments
And those moments would really show how she is broken inside and puts up a careless and brave image, she is someone who needs healing even though healing takes time
I also saw someone saying like 'oh Seok Kyung hates her mom so much'
Yeah she hated her mom but she didn't hate her to death like she didn't wish death upon her
Seok Kyung was heart broken when she heard Suryeon's death and that showed that she still loved her mom even though Suryeon didn't give birth to them
I was heart broken when I saw that she cut her hair because here was no one there to tie it for her bc Suryeon loved Seok Kyungs long hair and that's why she didn't cut it but after he mothers death no one was there to tie her hair for her
I started seeing her in a different light after a while bc again it showed that he character was very broken emotionally and needed healing
I'm interested about seeing more of her character development after the last ep where she defended Rona
Also my girl is so hot, another one that was serving amazing looks
Joo Seok Hoon
Tumblr media
8/10
He was lowkey annoying at first ngl
Like my man was just🧍🏻‍♂️
It annoyed me so much how he defended his sister so much, fell for her tricks, covered up for her and did anything she said EVEN though its wrong
But after some time I understood that he cared for and that she was the only family left to him
I mean Seok Hoon hate Joo Dan Tae so he doesn't counts and Suryeon was dead at the moment
I will still not forgive him for bullying Seol A even though he regrets it
It also annoyed me how he didn't stood up for Rona at all in the first season even though he liked her
By he got so much better in S2, he was even part in the revenge plan
He is literally the human CCTV camera in Hera Palace like he knows more than even the viewers know
The way he was protective of Rona when he found out she was alive was so aDORABLE
And my man was amazing in the last episodes
I love him
Cheon Seo Jin
Tumblr media
4/10
THIS WOMAN MAKES MY BLOOD FUCKING BOIL
Like I sometimes just was to 🤜🏻👩🏻
But sometimes I wanna hug her😩
Idk I feel like she became a horrible person bc of greed and that he father and mother placed too high expectations for her
Instead of praising her for her accomplishments her parents wanted her to do more
Maybe that's why she was desperate for love and affection and found that in Joo Dan Tae even though he pretended to like her
But that definitely does not dismiss her horrible actions
But also the harsh past made her the could hearted person, like she left her father to die
She felt more care towards her daughter after she almost lost her because Eunbyeol tried to commit suicide
She was in alot of pain and you could see it in her cries and when she was on the phone with the person
Soyeon's acting was amazing in that scene
She started to care more about her ex husband and daughter when she saw how much Eunbyeol was suffering and she realized that she genuinely liked Ha Yoon Chul hwen she saw how horrible Joo Dan Tae was
I did feel bad for her sometimes but after seeing that she didn't change I really didn't feel any sympathy for her
She needs therapy
Girlie was shocked when the doctor said she is losing her voice like bestie you are screaming every episode
She was also serving amazing looks every episode
Ha Yoon Chul
Tumblr media
5/10
The first male character I simped for
Like I am not going to deny it but he is hot🥵
But the first few episodes he was an absolute asshole and greedy
But I never expected him to be Yoonhee's ex boyfriend
I did like him a tiny bit when he saved Yoon Hee from Kyu Jin
His entrance in S2 with the helicopter was damn hot
And I WAS SO SHOCKED WHEN HE SAID MEET MY WIFE OH YOON HE
LIKE YAY MY SHIP IS SAILING
I spoke too soon
His character development and fighting skills were hot as well
He was ADORABLE with Rona and Yoonhee
I seriously thought that Rona was his daughter
BUT THAN AT THE CHEONG AH FESTIVLE OOF SIR I WANTED TO PUNCH HIM
I WAS SO MAD WHEN HE SABOTAGED RONA'S PERFORMANCE
I began hating him after that💀
Like he went 📈📉 with his character development
AND THEN HE CLEANED EUNBYEOL'S MEMORY FROM THAT NIGHT LIKE SIR SKSHSKSHKS SHE DID HAT TO YOUR DAUGHTER
I actually asked my dad what he thought about what Yoon Chul did and this was his reponse:
"If you look at it from a parents perspective they would want to do anything if they saw their child in pain like he did but I would've also scolded her and had a conversation with her about why she did it instead of wiping her memory from that night like he did. "
So that's that
I LOVED IT WHEN YOON HEE CAME WITH THAT BLOW AND TOLD HIM RONA WAS HER DAUGHTER
Jonghoon's acting was chef's kiss in that scene
I was going to rate him a 4 but I gave him that 5 when I saw how he was at court, he admitted to his wrong doings but also still had feelings for Yoon Hee
I wanna see his reaction in s3 to Rona now bc now that he got to know that is his daughter I wonder how he will be
Lee Kyu Jin
Tumblr media
1/10
AN ASSHOLE
USELESS
WHY IS HE HERE
Like I have nothing to say about him rather than I hate him and that he useless just like his wife and son
HE IS LITERALLY NOTHING WITHOUT HIS MOM
I'm only giving him that one bc he was funny in the episodes
THATS THE ONLY REASON HE IS THERE JUST FOR COMEDY PURPOSES
Go Sang Ah
Tumblr media
0.5/10
ANNOYING 2.0
USELESS 2.0
ALL SHE DOES IS SPEND HER HUSBAND AND MOTHER IN LAW'S MONEY
LIKE SHE AIN'T EVEN WORKS
UNLIKE KANG MARI
The only thing she does is gossip
And spills the tea☕
SHE IS LITERALLY NOTHING WITHPUT HER HUSBAND AND HIS FAMILY
Giving her a 0.5 bc she is kinda funny eh
Lee Minhyuk
Tumblr media
0/10
ANNOYING 3.0
USELESS 3.0
ASSHOLE 2.0
Idk if it runs in the family but again he is useless
And a dumbass
He also nothing without his parents
Why is he there tho like you ain't even funny
All he can do is cause trouble
And bullied Jenny
His dumbass slipped and broke his own arm and blamed it on Rona smh🤦🏻‍♀️
Sometimes I just wanna 🤜🏻👦🏻
Also my dude was trying to sound all intimidating by saying
"Oh Jenny's father is a scary man, yOuR dEaD BaE rOnA"
Like dude worry about yourself bitch you are dead first for bullying Jenny
But like I hate the character but LOVE THE ACTOR HE IS SO HOT OMFG
Joo Dan Tae
Tumblr media
0/10
ANOTHER ONE THAT PISSES ME OFF SO MUCH AND MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL
SOMETIMES I DONT WANNA 🤜🏻 I WANNA 🔪
LIKE I HATE HIM WITH A FUCKING PASSION
I DONT CARE ABOUT HIS PAST OR ANYTHING HE IS A GREASY, GREEDY, PSYCHO, OBSESSIVE MANIPULATIVE, POSSESSIVE PSYCHO
Like I legit thought he was nice in he first ep and then I saw him kiss Seojin and-
Me: 🤨😧😃🤮 MY EMOTIONS WENT LIKE THAT
LIKE HE IS SO FUCKING POSSESSIVE OVER SURYEON, AEGYO AND SEOJIN LIKE ITS DISGUSTING
I WAS GETTING YANDERE BEHAVIOUR FROM THAT OLD MAN
PURE TRASH
Bae Rona
Tumblr media
9/10
I LOVE HER NOW
RONA BEST GIRL
She was also annoying at first and was very ungrateful
But over time she got better, still a tiny bit annoying sometimes but better
When she came back from the US I WAS LIKE GIRL NO YOU FINNA RUIN THE PLAN
I do feel bad for her bc she went through alot with bullying, her mom going to jail not only once but twice, her getting to know that Yoonchul who she started liking sabotaged her performance, and also literally almost dying
My girl has been through a lot
AND WHEN SHE RUNNED TOWARDS THE STAIRS OUTSIDE WHEN EUNBYEOL WAS CHASING HER I WAS LIKE GIRL RUN TO THE HALL YOU RUNNIN OUTSIDE
I am excited to see her reaction to getting to know that Yoon Chul is her dad
Part 2 is also posted!
002 with mixen <3
002 | send me a ship and I will tell you:
when i started shipping it: okay so i went deep into my archives and i found my first mixen gifset, here, from october 26, 2016. it is then followed by this gifset from october 28, 2016, a complete stroke of genius i’d forgotten about. and HERE is the first post i made about them while watching legends, also from october 28th, 2016. i’m assuming that the clip of her trying to kill him was released as a preview which is why the gifset predates the text post. so then in november 2016 is good it’s not really ramped up yet and then we get the chicago way and that, in a lot of ways, changed my life? for the better? unclear. am i being sarcastic? also unclear. there’s just so much about it that did me in. first the “i’m clyde that’s bonnie” because s3 of dusk had JUST ended and that was a RAW fucking nerve. just the exact shit i was looking for. the scene where mick puts his finger to his lips while looking at amaya’s mouth and you just know he’s internally like i am... going to hell. i am GOING to hell. amaya kissing him on the CHEEK? [mick’s certainty of going to hell intensifies] and the real piece de resistance was len descending from the ceiling shrieking in gay rage like. that’s what really solidified mick’s relationship with amaya to me: he was willing to defend her to literally, literally his husband. he says amaya is his ONLY friend because leonard is GONE, implying that amaya is len’s EQUAL in mick’s eyes. mick is a complex character and he’s actually very sensitive but when we had him in season 1, he came as a packaged set with len. and he grew and formed new relationships and listen we all know i can and will ship mick with anyone dominic purcell this is a threat but amaya is, in canon, not just implied by dominic’s choices for the character, the time where mick is declaring his affection for someone out loud. and i also want to reflect on like. leonard, be he real or be he a figment of mick’s mind, despite being WILDLY jealous of amaya, had one goal in that episode: to keep mick alive. like mick was so reckless in season two and with amaya he seems to finally almost want to... pull back? he tells leonard “i’ll be dead like you” which says he isn’t objecting to the idea of being dead, but that amaya is giving him something that makes life exciting, and he’d rather have that than fall into his old self-preservation instincts. you can MARK that mick starts trying to die less after the chicago way until len comes back in the world war i episode.  like i guess i started shipping mixen when they became the epitome of “god said love your enemy so i obeyed her and i loved myself” are you HAPPY? is this what you WANTED?
-
my thoughts: you accidentally had a baby with him. i am the reason he is able to feel love. we are not the same
-
what makes me happy about them: as much as i’ve focused on amaya’s positive impact on mick i want to emphasize that this is a two way street because mick is someone who taught amaya to embrace herself and what makes her happy. amaya has so much pressure riding on her shoulders and mick is never deterred by it. amaya has always been brilliant beautiful incredible etc but when we first meet her in s2 she is so tightly wound and she is so in the mold of what she thinks she needs to be and what she thinks the legacy of the anansi totem requires of her and when she’s around mick she realizes she can be... amaya. just amaya. like did she say to mick “what would a criminal do” because she was being horny on main? yes. but she also did it because she was genuinely open to learning how he saw the world. like it’s truly incredible that amaya meets mick and in the span of 30 minutes is like actually, mick is the most interesting and enticing person i have ever met and  [mick’s certainty of going to hell intensifies] but actually there are just little things they do even when they don’t like each other that show a certain level of respect- mick tells amaya he’s not an idiot and amaya tells him not to call her “girlie” so amaya actually spends the rest of their relationship uplifting mick’s ideas and his accomplishments and mick POINTEDLY never gives amaya a nickname. the nickname one is especially funny bc i geniunely think she just didn’t like “girlie” and may have been fine with a different nickname but like. the fact that mick remembers to NOT give her a nickname EVER when everyone else gets one? the way he paid attention to amaya and respected what she was saying? the way they could be open with each other? like okay they weren’t canon-canon but a part of me is glad bc. this ship was originally marc’s idea and what is legends s2 if not phil and marc fighting for control of the story like the one ring? if marc had been allowed to make them romantic i fear he would’ve done his normal bullshit that he does with his couples where basically mick never changes in a positive way and keeps chipping away at parts of amaya until she feels like she is at “his level” and then he essentially takes over the rest of the parts of her life he hadn’t already taken control of and just, disgusting. like let me be clear on mick rory’s worst day he is still a better person than oliver queen on his best day i don’t care if he’s roasting people alive he is STILL a better person. but with that relationship choice being taken out of marc’s hands, we instead get a relationship where amaya offers mick the starting blocks to build himself UP, and he takes them and is able to keep building himself even without fully relying on her. when he tells her in season 3 “we’ve all done things we’re not proud of” and she just brightens so immediately, and the same thing happens in the pirate episode - and he is able to do these things for her because he let her help him, but did not make her his only lifeline. the person mick is in s3 onward is a person he feels better about being because amaya has always seen good in him and like. not to be dramatic but i am literally, literally crumbling into ash as we speak
-
what makes me sad about them: FROM SEASON 4 ONWARD SHE ISN’T THERE ANYMORE AND MICK IS JUST LEFT WITH ALL THE FUCKING EMOTIONS SHE MADE HIM FEEL AND THE WAYS SHE HELPED HIM AND ALL HE CAN DO IS TRY TO KEEP HER ALIVE, IN HIS MIND AT LEAST, BY HELPING PEOPLE (CHARLIE AND MONA) THE WAY AMAYA HELPED HIM.
-
things done in fanfic that annoys me: i have no issue with mixen being in fic with OTHER ships but to my fucking detriment it always seems to be a secondary pairing in captain canary fics and like 1. hate crime 2. mick is a bisexual he can have a husband and a wife he can have them at the same time he can have them at separate times but if you’re writing capcan i’m assuming you have a heterosexual agenda and i want that kept away from ships i like at ALL times
-
things I look for in fanfic: a genuine understanding of mick’s character. he can be kind of tricky to strike a balance with but you can just tell when he’s being written too aggressively or when he’s being written just as too much of a bastard or a former criminal and like, i also look for amaya not being helpless and emotional bc quite frankly mick is way more expressive emotionally than amaya and it is so vital that this is understood. also if it’s sad i like to read it and then cry myself to sleep
-
who i’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: OKAY FINE nate for either. nate for both! final ot3 of nate/amaya/mick is good, pure, canon supported, and legally required. but also amaya with zari 1.0 and mick with ray or, honestly? zari 2.0. DON’T @ ME
-
My happily ever after for them: they just get to like. live life together. mick takes in ese as one of his own and amaya does the same for lita and they have a 3rd child together that’s in the bible look it up but like. not giving up the time traveling life and the heroics and the adventures fully but being a family even when their kids grow up and they can be old together even if it’s them popping on and off the waverider sometimes together sometimes they do their own thing always put the kids first and sure mick has 22 wonderful years on amaya but he’s on a timeship he can wait for her to catch up so they can get old-old together. also nate is there romantically, sexually, raising the children, let’s have mick and nate make a fourth child, this is absolutely non-negotiable
-
who is the big spoon/little spoon: amaya is AGGRESSIVELY the little spoon. like flinging herself into mick’s arms and like HOLD ME and mick just reflexively wrapping his arms around her bc she small. sof. smells nice. pretty
-
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: amaya like why be having not-sex when you could be having sex? and mick like i don’t know. sleeping? photography? long drives? (it’s long drives & going to museums don’t @ me)
GX Month Day 5
September 4th: “Pass The Salt”
No story is perfect. So what is something you wish you could have seen in the story of GX?
Oh boy where do I start
While I love GX there are quite a few things a would have done differently.
The case of Daichi Misawa
Tumblr media
We are all more than familiar with Misawa and his fall from grace, from one of Judai’s potential top rivals, to a recurring joke even for the other characters (”Oh, Misawa, you’re here”). I get it, GX has a HUGE cast, like seriously huge. And we went from having 5 to 7 important characters in DM to around 15 in GX. Not everyone was going to survive the chopping block. Another victim of this was Hayato, but he was gone so soon (and with dignity) I didn’t really mind it. But Misawa’s case in S2 and S3 is just sad. I wish they could have done something better for him. At least he helped everyone get back from the other dimension and got Tanya in the end.
Johan vs Hell Kaiser Ryo
Tumblr media
So, I don’t think I am the only one who thinks the duel between Ryo and Yubel (Possessing Johan) is one of the best if not the best in all of GX. It’s absolutely mind blowing.
But I think that the duel between Ryo and Johan in the first arc of S3 to bring everyone back from the other dimension is one that goes under a lot of people’s radars. Call me biased because Johan is my favorite GX character, but I was really digging that duel. Like even without Rainbow Dragon, Johan was putting up a serious fight against Ryo with the way he used the Crystal Beasts. So I am forever salty that they could never revisit this duel (vs actual Johan, not Yubel).
I get it, this duel served more as a preview for what was to come when we saw they would duel again. And Johan was barely in S4 and Ryo could hardly duel anymore given his heart condition. But for Ryo to have said that Johan had been the only one besides Judai to make him feel excited in a duel and who could have Judai’s unlimited potential...I think it would have been very very fun and exciting to watch, specially with Rainbow Dragon.
“Everyone’s dead....JUST KIDDING”
Tumblr media
I know it’s a kids’ show, and it would have been extremely tough to follow another season without like 3/4 of the cast. But having everyone come back alive from the Hell Dimension felt like a bit of a cheap move that also makes some of Judai’s character development lose some significance.
So everything he went through from the moment his friend’s died (becoming the Supreme King out of pure helplessness and desire for revenge, then coming back from that with a terrible, terrible case of PTSD basically leaving him unable to duel, coming to terms with everything he had done and learning to use the strength of the Supreme King without letting it overtake him), it was all for nothing? Then all the people the Supreme King killed are alive and well?
It also takes merit from the other characters’ themselves and the circumstances of their deaths. Kenzan, Manjoume, Asuka and Fubuki being sacrificed, victims treated as collateral damage to create a super powerful card, right in front of a collapsing Judai as their hearts were corrupted too. Jim and O’Brien (the two most emotional deaths in S3 for me), who sacrificed themselves to bring Judai back and bury the Supreme King away. Edo, who sacrificed himself to try and save Echo (who gave her life away for someone who took advantage of her feelings), and Ryo, who even though he said was only looking for the ultimate opponent, tried until the last minute in the duel to separate Yubel and Johan. Hell, Ryo basically died twice (because of his heart failure and losing the duel), yet he survived.
As I said, I know the show would have been extremely hard to keep going. But it took away from the serious, dark story S3 was becoming. It takes away from Judai, and the ones who died because they all came back brand new.
Reincarnation
Tumblr media
It’s not that I didn’t like it, Reincarnation is a trope that I LOVE. But in GX we literally got it dropped on us out of absolutely nowhere. We literally had no clue Judai could have had a past life and that’s where his story with Yubel came from.
Like idk, maybe some flashbacks or random shots of the Supreme King’s backstory (which wouldn’t make sense until we find out it’s Judai and would have made it pretty cool) would have made it better, IMO.
PTSD? Only Judai can relate
Tumblr media
Another thing that I found weird was how quickly everyone got over what happened in the Hell Dimension except for Judai. We can see he is depressed and dealing with the aftermath of what S3 did to him. But what about everyone else? Weren’t they supposed to be in like a dimension of pain and suffering even if they were alive? I am glad so many main characters got their time to shine in S4, but, as we wrapped each story, a nod to what happened to them in S3 would have been nice. It’s all part of the process of growing up, too, learning to deal and cope with out most painful moments.
S4: “Overseas champions? I don’t know them”
Yeah, so given the HUGE (LIKE REALLY HUGE) role the Overseas Champions played in S3, barely seeing them in S4 was a bit of a whiplash. I am glad we got O’Brien dueling Mr. T and him playing with his mind with false memories was heartbreaking yet super interesting to watch. But we got literally no Jim and Karen, at all. The guy gave his life and his supernatural eye to try to bring Judai back. I had hoped we would have at least seen some of him in S4. We literally have no idea what the hell happened to Amon, my theory is that he stayed in that other dimension to build his perfect world and become its Monarch. But we literally have no clue about what became of him. And did Echo come back, too? Is she with Amon in the other dimension?
Tumblr media
And then we have Johan. Considering Judai went to basically Hell to rescue him, I thought we would see a bit more of him in S4. Like at least bidding each other farewell? You know “Thanks for rescuing my soul from my card and saving me from your eternal guardian who was corrupted by evil and almost ended the Universe as we know it”? No? Okay then. I am so so glad we got him in that Battle Royale against Fujiwara tho, that kind of made up for it :)
Edo’s fate
Tumblr media
From the start we know Edo is one of those characters that know they are fucking amazing at what they do and make a point of it. He is at the top of the food chain. The young pro duelist, talented beyond his years (for Pegasus to say he was just below Yugi, Kaiba and Joey?!), rich, refined, confident and a bit arrogant.
Then how is it that the last we see of him is receiving a direct attack from Ojama Yellow straight to the face? I know Manjoume was meant to win this duel, but it would have been great to see him summon Plasma and that Manjoume had summoned Armored Dragon, or maybe using the Ojamas with the Spell Cards to banish monsters from the field or to summon Ojama King. Like Edo didn’t even want to duel, it was all a scam from his former manager and they still made him go out like that :( I wanted a more epic goodbye duel for our Edo tbh.
Then again, I am biased because Edo is my second favorite character in GX.
Season 4 rushing
Tumblr media
5D is very cool and all....BUT WHY DID THEY HAVE TO CUT GX SHORT FOR IT.
S4 is so obviously rushed and for me it Darkness was a bit of an underwhelming villain after the AMAZING villain that Yubel was for S3. Fujiwara just popped out of nowhere and we got no development of him in comparison to Yubel or even Saio (I won’t say that of Mr. Chairman because he literally popped out of nowhere in S1).
I just wished we had gotten a proper, full S4. More GX to fawn over.
Wow that was a lot of salt now I sound like I hater but I promise I love GX as much as Manjoume loves Asuka (lol).
Fall anime preview
Oh hey, it’s that time again... I refuse, refuse to accept that summer is over. :( I hate cold and darkness.
Also, it appears I’ve been missing notifications for a while back? :O I just came on and saw a bunch of activity on some of my posts, and like, oh wow, when did all this happen? Tumblr certainly didn’t tell me! So if you wrote me anything and I didn’t answer, sorry!!! orz
Anyway, fall shows. Yet again I’m not terribly enthusiastic about the upcoming season, but hey, who knows, maybe there will be some diamonds, or well, decently valuable gems. Or at least some pretty stones. There's some promise here and there!
Osomatsu-san S3: This franchise's time seems to have passed by now, and even I’m not terribly excited for it anymore. But still, I loved S1-2, so I hope I’ll love this one as well. One thing I’m worried about is that they’ll start taking cues from fandom reactions/fan preferences, and give heavier focus to character pairs I’ve never been into and am actually finding a bit annoying by now, after all the pandering from some official and semi-official sources. (*cough*Ichimatsu/Karamatsu*cough*) Anyway, looking forward to this one!
Jujutsu kaisen: Eh, why not? I don’t have high expectations from these, being a Jump action manga, but I like the character designs, and overall it looks and sounds nice, so maybe it’ll be enjoyable bubblegum for my eyes and brain to chew for ~20 minutes every week.
Akudama Drive: This seems like a game adaptation... is it? (I can’t be bothered to check.) Anyway, it looks decently interesting, so I’ll be checking this out. Poor Takeuchi Shunsuke gets to play the big guy again. Sigh, give him some pretty boy roles already!
Taisou Samurai: This seems like MAPPA trying to make Yuuri on Ice happen again. I’ll give it a try, I hope that this one I’ll actually like (considering I didn’t like Yuuri on Ice).
Magatsu Wahrheit: This is definitely a game adaptation, but it doesn’t really seem like one, somehow? I do hope it’ll be good, I really like what I’ve seen from the game - the world setting, the chara designs, the basic premise. (If I wasn’t burned out on these games I’d even give it a go.)
Great Pretender S2: oh yeah, this is already out. I’ll get around watching it one of these days.
Yuukoku no Moriarty: This is definitely going to be one of the season’s fandom darlings. I'm not interested, tbh, but I guess I’ll give the first episode a watch to see what I’ll be missing. (As if I didn’t already have a pretty good idea based on the promos and the bits and pieces I’ve seen from the manga.)
Daiya no ace S3 EP 1
Okay time for my more coherent response to this episode (haha that’s a joke)
Again under a read-more to avoid spoiling people :D
I should also say - I haven’t read the manga so I’m essentially as spoiler free to myself as possible so please don’t come and tell me the answers to the questions I’m asking!
It’s literally been 3 years since season 2 so the short recap at the beginning was kind of useful! (even if this entire anime is burnt into my retinas at this point)
I’ve missed hearing their voices! My heart <3
Also side note I forgot how much I admired Eijun-Furuya’s rivalry?!?!
Also this moment before the OP....just really made my heart skip
Tumblr media
OP: Hajimari no Uta by GLAY
It’s super exciting to see everyone! The new first years are adorable! ALso there was a moment of Haruichi having lightning in his eyes so all I thought of then was KnB “zone” haha.
I like the switching of lighting that almost felt like a transition from manga to anime at the end of the OP.
Overall the song is really good and I’ll have it on repeat for a while probably! (its on Itunes now!
First Game
The episode started officially with Eijun setting up for his first pitch at Koshien. And it made me laugh so much! The fact that it was all serious at first, and then he slipped. He’s such a goofy character.
But I really like that they started with this scene because it essentially lampshades the seriousness of the event. Because at its heart, these are still growing, silly high school students. And it was nice to not start with extreme seriousness.
Plus, this face is just perfect...
Tumblr media
And then immediately the more serious voiceover (by Tetsu right?) was just heartwarming!
Eijun stay calm please! Deep breaths :)
AND THEN THE MOMENT! I knew Miyuki was super talented...but wow. That was an insane moment!
Tumblr media
Seeing mochi whipping that ball back to Haruichi was just fantastic. He truly is the “cheetah”!!
And then Zono...I felt bad really that he’s become such a comical character, but honestly I can’t help but admire how serious he is even when he pops the ball and it gets caught so easily.
Kataoka’s speech was stunning. I mean, really laying on the pressure coach, but I thought it was lovely. And it definitely helped them haha!
And then they won the game. Of course they did, and this time I really didn’t feel too bad because I didn’t know anything really about the other team.
THE SONG THOUGH! That was such a cute scene! I loved it :)
Also, Yui showed up. I don’t know how I can say more that he looks adorable and I love him.
Tumblr media
So I know nothing about Hongo Masamune or any of that team. But his odd comment against Furuya confuses me. Are they both from Hokkaido? Does he have beef against Furuya? Also if he’s the ace...why was he relief? I’m very curious about everything. Komadai Fujimaki is a very interesting school.
The set-up to their game against Seidou is very serious and I really feel like I’m missing something but I’m also very fascinated!
After the game
The news articles scene!! HAHAHAH
Eijun you’re just the relief I’m so sorry no one cares lol.
Does drinking coffee make you that mature?? I detest it, but I think I’m mature enough.
Also I got to see my sons on screen, and I need to give a moment of thanks that they’re here and I love them.
Tumblr media
Miyuki and Mochi’s conversation. Someone explain these two idiots. I thought it was going to be about how they couldn’t sleep due to baseball/excitement. But it was about watching different TV shows/advertisements ?!?! Dorks.
Komadai’s Game
This catcher...looks very similar to Miyuki’s character model?
Why is Masamune completely oblivious about people around him? Is that just part of his character? Apparently so considering the rest of that scene.
BUT his pitching makes up for his bizarre character (this isn’t really a judgement but my initial reaction)
ALSO SORRY BACK TO HIS PITCHING. That is a 151 km/h pitch. I know nothing about baseball really - BUT THAT CAN’T BE NORMAL!
Also that’s a lot of control for such speed! Actually cause I didn’t see signs/the catcher’s face, so I’m not sure how controlled it is. But no one really complained, so I’ll say lots of control
I guess I count as peanut gallery in this context :D
Tumblr media
He’s a pitcher like Eijun indeed! He changes the mood of everyone once he’s on the mound. Just using anger...not enthusiasm!
It looks like Furuya might know him too!? What is this bizarre relationship.
Get revenge for Inashiro haha! Eijun you’re so loud!
ED: Golden after School by OxT
I really liked this brown-tinted screenshot/powerpoint ED!
Plus we got to see our adorable first years, and so many of the other important characters who get less screen time then they deserve!
And then the colour change was really cool and write on time with the music.
Pitchers in the front and catchers in the back...awesome editing/animating!
And of course the song is amazing! I’m waiting for it show up on Itunes!
Preview for EP 2
I’m super excited! And they spoiled nothing so now I don’t know what’s coming next week :D
Overall
I really really adored this entire episode. It was a fantastic start after 3 years of nothing. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the 50+ episodes are going to be like! What a year to look forward to!
Note
I'm definitely hoping for a romance between them too! Seen adverts for the show, so I'm guessing it's back soon
I know! I got so excited when I saw the preview that I started re-watching s1 & 2. S3 looks just as glorious. And it looks like there are some nice moments, some lingering looks between Louisa and Spiros.
Missing Meals and Second Helpings ch5 PREVIEW
Heeey so I wanted to post something to celebrate s3 coming out but uhm everything I have is WIPs orz. So. What you’ll get is a preview of the first scene in the next chapter of Missing Meals! Not a finished draft yet, but it’s coming along slowly but surely... Hope you guys like it, I’m p excited for this chapter <3
You’d think that since Lance already had his outfit picked for the date--dinner, not date--he’d feel less nervous getting dressed up.
He didn’t.
The week had passed quickly with both of them working a full week until Saturday, and now it seemed like the day of their restaurant excursion had come too soon. In a way, it was a relief; Lance had been trying to ignore the anticipation building up in his gut, but the more he pushed the thought away, the more persistently it popped into his head. And now that he found himself shower fresh and hair done up to a T, looking at the suit hanging off the closet door, he didn’t know how he was supposed to feel.
This wasn’t the same as meeting his friends at a familiar bar had been. He hadn’t even wanted to do The Silver Surfer that night, but this? He wanted to have this night with Hunk like it really was a date. As much as he tried to deny it from himself, he was fucking excited as hell.
Lance took a deep breath, then plucked his shirt off its hanger. He’d already picked a nice pair of boxers to wear, and black socks to go with the suit, and now, he would finish off the look with a black button up he’d bought after their last outing. Just on the off chance that an occasion called for him to dress up again--he wanted to look nice in Hunk’s company.
Until now, such opportunity hadn’t presented itself, so Lance had never actually worn the shirt. He glanced at the size tag, a sudden flash of doubt pulling his brows into a frown.
That wasn’t the same size as his suit jacket--it was a size down.
Lance swallowed, looking at the shirt in his hands. It fit when I got it, he thought to himself, his nerves flaring. It had only been a few weeks since then. He’d been cutting back--well, maybe not as much as he should, but--he couldn’t have gained more than a few pounds, right? His eyes darted towards his new suit; he pulled in a breath, trying to calm down. If the shirt was too tight, he could hide it under the jacket. Problem solved, right?
Pushing back his doubts, Lance slipped his arms through the sleeves and shrugged the shirt on. It felt okay on his arms. He caught the two sides of the shirt, running his fingers down the lapels to match the right hole to the right button, and closed the first one over his chest. So far so good.
But as he continued slipping the buttons closed it quickly became clear that his initial reaction had been right: the shirt was--snug. As he got to the buttons over his gut, he instinctively sucked in, and the buttons did close, but--Lance felt a hot wave of embarrassment cascade over his shoulders, bringing a sheen of sweat to his forehead. With a bad feeling, he relaxed his abdominal muscles and let his belly push out.
Fuck.
There was no mirror in his bedroom, not even in the closet, so Lance was left to gauge the situation by how it felt. And it felt tight. He lifted up his arms, shifting around, then tugged the shirt down and ran his fingers over the middle of his gut, trying to feel if there was any gaping. Looking down, he could see how his belly filled out the front of his shirt, pulling the fabric tight around the widest part, and--yeah, the buttons looked just a bit strained.
Fuck. Fuck.
He swallowed the swell of panic that rose up through him--it was okay, he was okay--and forced himself to keep going. He turned back to his suit, desperately reminding himself that it had fit just a week earlier. It would still fit. He pulled the slacks off the hanger and put them on, tucking the hem under the waistband before buttoning them up. Without a mirror, it was impossible to say how it looked, but at least the slacks hadn’t shrunk--they still fit comfortably enough.
His eyes slid over to the jacket. On the hanger, it looked big. Much bigger than he was. It hadn’t looked big on him, so obviously that wasn’t the case, but--Lance squeezed his eyes shut, and took a deep breath. Stop catastrophizing, he told himself firmly. The table reservation wouldn’t wait, and he’d already spent way too much time on getting dressed up.
He yanked the jacket off the hanger and put it on. It felt fine once on his shoulders, but the real test was the buttons. Lance caught the two sides of the jacket, but a sudden fear stopped him. He needed a mirror--he needed to see how bad it was.
Dashing off his bedroom, Lance didn’t think to check if the bathroom was clear. He nearly ran into Hunk as he stumbled through the door; at least Hunk was already clothed and not just stepping off the shower.
“Damn,” Hunk said when he found his voice. “You scared the hell out of me, dude!”
Lance grimaced, his body frozen mid movement. “Sorry, I just--wanted to use the mirror.”
Hunk scoffed softly, taking a step back to make room for him. “Same,” he said; he didn’t look like he intended to leave.
Lance took a breath, forcing himself to chill. “You look nice,” he said after a beat, glancing at Hunk sideways.
Nice was understating the fact that Hunk looked fine as fuck. That sweater Lance had picked for him couldn’t have fit better, snug as it was around just the right parts. It made Lance want to rub his hands all over Hunk’s chest and his belly to feel those soft curves under his touch. God, he could barely look at Hunk, looking like the perfect customer for this upscale hipster nightmare in his dark slacks and blazer.
“Thanks,” Hunk returned, “and uh, likewise.”
“Might be too soon to say that.”
Lance tried to laugh it off, but it came out sounding weird, his nerves strung too high as he turned to face himself in the mirror. Where was his confidence when he needed it? He’d tried this jacket on just a week ago and it had fit. Why did it now feel so much smaller? He focused on the buttons and did them up, ignoring the blush creeping over his face when the jacket sat tight around his gut, fitted against the equally tight shirt underneath. Lance stared at his reflection in disbelief.
“How the fuck did I gain this much fucking weight in a week?” Lance turned to Hunk, his hands flying up to his sides while he cursed. “I don’t--I don’t think I’ve eaten that much since I got the suit, right?”
“Ah.” While Lance raged, Hunk had been staring at him with a shocked expression that rivaled his own. “Yeah, it looks, um. Different.”
Lance could feel the blood rushing to his face. “You can just say I look fat. It’s not a big thing, I mean--it’s not. Um. A big deal.” Stop saying the word big, Jesus! He settled his hands on his hips, trying to reclaim his cool, but it felt like this whole night was off to a bad start. “I don’t fucking know how this happened, but--I guess it’s the best I’ve got.”
“Hey.” Hunk had moved closer without Lance noticing. His arms wrapped around him as easy as ever, pulling Lance into that familiar embrace. “It’s gonna be fine, Lance.”
He waited for Hunk to continue, but he didn’t--not that he really needed to. The warmth of his hug was like being wrapped in his favorite blanket; Lance felt the tightness in his chest ease up, little by little, until he felt calm enough to pull away.
“Thanks,” he muttered, not quite looking Hunk in the eye.
“It’s fine, Lance. You look nice, and I mean that.”
Lance scoffed, tugging at his suit jacket. A glance in the mirror showed how far from truth Hunk’s words were. His gut looked massive no matter which angle he tried, framed by the little stretches in the suit’s fine fabric. A flush came over him as he realized he’d seen this before--he frowned, hands grabbing his belly. “This looks like the jacket I tried on, the... smaller one.” Hunk cleared his throat, but before he could speak, Lance’s eyes flew wide and he blurted out, “Did I just gain that much more weight in a week? A whole size?” He turned to Hunk, still holding his belly like it was the key to solving this mystery.
Hunk took a moment to give him a good look over, his eyes narrowing as they lingered over Lance’s gut. But when he looked up, his expression was wavering between amused and slightly worried, a grin ready to spread on his lips. “Even if I thought that was even possible, I don’t think you’ve actually gained much weight at all.”
Lance frowned at him. “Then--”
“Are you sure that’s the right jacket?”
“Huh?”
Hunk gave him a pointed look. “Is it possible that you maybe bought the smaller jacket you tried on, instead of the right size?” He glanced down at Lance’s belly, then reached out to feel it, quick like he didn’t want to miss an opportunity. “I don’t think this looks any bigger than last week,” he said in a low voice, running his palm over the top of Lance’s gut before giving it a final pat and retreating.
As soon as he recovered from the sudden hand-on-belly action, Lance started to feel like an idiot. “Oh,” he said, letting his belly plop down from his grasp. His face felt like it was on fire, and how much of that was from Hunk touching him and how much from his utter lack of common sense, it was impossible to tell.
He took in a breath, then gave a sigh and took off his jacket. Lance hadn’t forgotten about the problem with his button up--but the cat was out of the bag now. Besides, Hunk already knew how big he was, tight clothes or not. It shouldn’t matter if he felt like all his weight was on display in the close fitted shirt he was wearing, especially after the tirade he’d just went on. Fuck, he’d pretty much invited Hunk to scrutinize his body, try and measure if he’d grown bigger, fatter...
He swallowed as he turned the jacket around in his hands to check the tag; he could barely focus on the number, his mind still filled with the heady rush he got from feeling Hunk’s gaze on him. He shook off the fantasy--there was a time for that and it was called later--and blinked, reading the number until it made sense.
“Oh. Shit.”
Hunk stepped in closer to peer at the jacket. “I was right?”
“Yeah.” Lance let out litany of curses, scrunching the offending jacket in his fists till his fit of rage blew over. “I can’t believe this!”
Hunk patted him on the shoulder. “It happens, bro. Probably an honest mistake.”
Lance tried to think back to the fitting room, but the whole thing was a blur. It had been right after they had kissed--well, on the cheek, but still--so Lance had apparently been shaken enough to actually grab the wrong suit jacket to take home. God, who even does that? And why hadn’t he made sure it was the right one, after all the fretting he’d done over the details of this night?
“Yeah,” he finally said, sighing in defeat.
“Hey, if it makes you feel any better, mine isn’t that great a fit either.”
Lance was ready to scoff off Hunk’s attempts at consolation, but throwing a look at Hunk gave him a pause. The grey blazer Hunk had worn on and off during his stay, now looked curiously smaller than before. It occurred to Lance he hadn’t seen Hunk button it up in a while, but now that he had... It was obvious there was a lot more meat on Hunk’s bones for it to cover up. The blazer might have even been a little bit tighter than Lance’s and--that was saying something.
He swallowed, eyes fixed on Hunk’s soft round belly. He tried to resist the urge, but all he could think was how Hunk had just done it--reached out and touched him because that’s the kind of friends they were--so why couldn’t he do the same?
“Yeah, that does look a bit tight.”
He didn’t mean his words to come out sounding like that, soft and breathless. Lance cleared his throat and let his fingers brush over Hunk’s jacket front, then aimed for the buttons and plucked them open. The blazer fell open at the release of the last button; Hunk’s belly pushed out as the two sides parted under its weight, and Lance held his breath as he waited for that sweater covered belly to reach his hand.
The cashmere was so utterly soft Lance could feel his hand sinking into it. Underneath it, as irresistible to touch as the sweater he wore, was Hunk. Lance had to bite his lip to keep his mouth shut; he was already pushing the boundaries from friendly to flirting, and he could barely keep it together under the guise of bros being bros when Hunk did it to him.
So what the hell was he doing resting his hand on Hunk’s gut now, feeling its shape with a grin on his lips, saying, “I don’t think this thing here looks any smaller than last week, either. Guess we’re a good match, huh?”
Hunk gasped, but turned it into a chuckle. “I guess we do,” he said; he didn’t move away from Lance’s touch and--it almost felt like he was leaning in. It was just the slightest increase of pressure against his palm, but Lance couldn’t have imagined that. He glanced up to Hunk, realizing how close they were standing, Hunk’s head almost brushing against his--
A loud buzzing sound jerked them apart. Hunk’s head snapped towards the sink, where his phone was doing the dance perilously close to falling off. “Oh, shit--” He jumped to the side to pick the thing up before it slipped to the floor, flicking off the alarm without even looking at it.
“Wh--why do you have the alarm on?”
“Time to get going,” Hunk said. He gave Lance a sheepish look, pushing the phone into the pocket of his new slacks. “I set up a reminder so we don’t miss our reservation.” Lance lifted a brow at him. Hunk was avoiding his eyes, his hands busy straightening up his outfit, touching up his hair; even without seeing his face, Lance could tell his nerves were back.
Not that Lance could blame him--his heart was still racing like crazy, and not just because of the surprise alarm. As he pulled his suit jacket back on, all he could think about was the look on Hunk’s face right before the alarm had interrupted them. The way his lips had parted, the red flush on his face when he’d turned away...
Why did he feel like Hunk had been about to kiss him?
Lance scowled at himself, fixing the sleeves of his jacket and tugging the lapels straight. Stop it, he told himself. If he started down that path, he’d end up convinced Hunk was in love with him, and he knew that wasn’t true--he needed to stop living in fantasy land, and for the love of god, stop putting Hunk into these awkward situations.
When Hunk finally turned back to him, Lance had mostly composed himself. He’d decided to wear his jacket open too, even if it left his gut hanging out in plain view. There wasn’t much he could do to hide it now, so might as well wear it with pride, straining buttons and all.
“Ready?” he asked, flashing Hunk a quick smile.
“Yeah.”
“Then let’s go, so we really don’t miss our reservation.”
//TBC.
Last week was Salesforce’s annual #Dreamforce conference in San Francisco, when over 100,000 Salesforce fans descend upon the city to listen to the latest innovations from Salesforce. I was unable to attend this year, but followed along closely at home to the announcements, and the one that stood out to me in particular was not Salesforce Blockchain, Einstein Voice or Customer 360 – it was the Salesforce Evergreen announcement that for me could be the real game changer. The Impact of Serverless To understand why you have to perhaps take a step back and look at how the rise of AWS and in particular, the AWS Lambda and the serverless paradigm has impacted development. Take the following example – you want to upload an image in Salesforce against a case both before and after work is completed. These images should be stored off platform in Amazon S3 and you want to have both the original and a thumbnail, with the thumbnail being displayed on the case. Whilst uploading the images to S3 could be done via Apex in Salesforce, the resizing must be done off platform currently. So how do we do this and where? We can either have an endpoint available on a platform like Heroku with a dyno running, or have a Lambda function that will run whenever called. Thats the key difference here, we have to have the Heroku dyno (at least 1) running to handle requests whereas with Lambda we are only paying per executed function. (Note this example is based upon a Lambda example from AWS you can read about here.) Whilst I am a big fan of Heroku, use cases like this lend themselves more to Lambda for running small jobs and repetitive functions where there is no need for a full web server framework to be setup, just receiving and processing some data from an event. Such scenarios are becoming more common as organisations want to connect more pieces of their process seamlessly. This has driven a number of people towards using serverless based solutions to handle these simple problems – they just need the code to run and perform the action. Many organisations are also working to modularise their systems into more discrete functional blocks, often referred to as microservices. I’ve written before on Salesforce and Microservices and spoken on the topic previously at Dreamforce 2015 and Dreamforce 2017. Previously, the conversation has always been how to make Salesforce interact nicely with serverless systems, or how to rearchitect parts of your existing Salesforce setup to operate in a more modular way. As soon as some more complicated processing was required (such as image resizing) you were forced off platform and had to decide which platform to use. How would you manage security and authentication? How could you invoke the new service – API via code or a Platform Event? You couldn’t think of doing all this on Salesforce – until now. Enter Evergreen Salesforce Evergreen is a new toolkit that will allow developers to write small functions and microservices using Apex, Java and Node.js which can be invoked natively from within Salesforce using both declarative and code based tools, as well as having native visibility to the platform – so no need to manage authentication. Taking our previous example, instead of a service running off platform, whether Heroku or AWS, we could now have a small set of functions that are called directly from the declarative tools in Salesforce. Whenever a case is closed. upload the images from Salesforce to S3, process these images and update the case. No additional infrastructure needed, no authentication required, all on a single platform. This is truly game changing, by allowing developers to build these functions using existing languages in Java and Node.js, you are enabling the developer to utilise all of the existing ecosystem of functionality out there. For example, npm, the package ecosystem for Node.js, has somewhere in the region of a million packages, covering all types of functionality – csv parsing to providing random jokes. Almost all of these libraries become available for use alongside your existing Salesforce applications with all the plumbing and authentication done for you! You simply add in what you need, leveraging the existing tools and off you go. Similarly, if you have an existing complex function in Java from an existing application, you can migrate that to become an Evergreen function and deploy it for use from within Salesforce! As wonderful a language as Apex is there are some things that it cannot do or that Java or Node.js will be a better tool for, now you can leverage these languages to do more with your Salesforce data. Summary The new Evergreen toolkit is going to make a huge difference to what is possible for Salesforce developers and opens up exciting new possibilities which should lead to some incredible new solutions. I am already signed up for updates from Salesforce on the Developer Preview and will be looking ahead for different applications for this toolkit for our customers. U.S., Mexico expectations for Friday’s friendly? Test their next waves of talent for bigger tests to come
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Friday’s friendly at MetLife Stadium  between the U.S. and Mexico doesn’t come with a ton of emotional baggage or themes of revenge. The historic animosity between longtime rivals is present, but both sides will be looking to get something a bit more meaningful out of their latest friendly.
ESPN’s Tom Marshall and Noah Davis preview the match from both perspectives.
U.S. point of view: Biggest test yet for the “kids”
The point of sport is to win, of course, but perhaps it’s also to learn. That’s especially true for a national team, who plays endless friendlies that present learning opportunities intermingled with the qualifiers and tournaments in which victory is always the ultimate objective. When the USMNT takes the field against Mexico on Friday, a rematch in name if not in reality off the back of El Tri‘s 1-0 Gold Cup final win in July, U.S. head coach Gregg Berhalter will be seeking forward momentum more than balls in the back of the net.
“A very consistent theme since we’ve been together is to just keep progressing,” he said in the lead-up to the game. “We got to a certain point in the Gold Cup. We want to analyze where we got to, and now can we build on that in this next game, in this next phase?”
– Berhalter: Dest will start vs. Mexico – O’Hanlon: Dest is proof of U.S. progress in developing talent
Continuing to build on “that,” the style and philosophy Berhalter brought to the team after his December 2018 hire would be a welcome sight for American fans who watched the squad flounder in an awkward limbo for a half-decade. Early returns have been decent if not spectacular, most notably a strong Gold Cup in which the Americans dominated until they didn’t and never looked overmatched.
Against Mexico (and Uruguay in St. Louis on Tuesday), Berhalter has close to a full-strength roster — Tyler Adams, DeAndre Yedlin, Tim Weah and Matt Miazga are missing due to injury — and 180 minutes to test ideas, theories and combinations. “Every player on the team is a puzzle piece,” said defender Aaron Long, one of the last year’s biggest success stories.
Tumblr media
Berhalter’s goal over this break is simply to see what the next wave of talent has to offer as well as give more thought to where Pulisic fits best in this U.S. team.
The most important puzzle piece is where Christian Pulisic best fits. It’s not a new conundrum. Both Jurgen Klinsmann and Bruce Arena tried — and succeeded/failed in equal measure — to figure out where to play the American’s most dynamic attacker. Berhalter’s choice about Pulisic will dictate a great deal of the rest of the formation. The Chelsea acquisition is listed as a forward on the latest roster, as opposed to the midfield role he occupied in the pre-Gold Cup releases. This might mean that the coach sees his young star playing farther up the field, likely out on a wing with Josh Sargent in the middle, or it might mean that Pulisic will play farther back and that an “F” or an “M” next to his name means little.
It’s also a chance to continue integrating the next generation into the national team.
“The youth wave for the U.S. is coming,” FC Dallas defender Reggie Cannon said. “I feel like I’m having gray hairs in the back of my head at 21. I don’t know why. But I’m always excited about this youth.”
The fact is simple: a roster comprised of American players 24 and under would be the favorite to beat a starting XI of guys 25 and up. Making this transition as seamlessly as possible needs to be a priority. Mexico and Uruguay, two quality but beatable sides, present wonderful opportunities to find out who of the newer crew can hang in Berhalter’s proactive style.
The coach understands this. He knows how valuable the games, and the trainings are for the future prospects. For example, there’s a shot for Atlanta United FC center-back Miles Robinson. “It’s a chance for us to get an up-close look at him,” Berhalter said. “We know he has the physical talent. We know he’s a competitor. We know he’s had a great season so far for Atlanta. It’s nice to get him in our environment and see how he can adapt to our style of play.” It’s high praise for the 22-year-old, and Berhalter could offer similar sentiments about at least a half dozen players in camp.
2022 World Cup qualifying begins in roughly a year. The process, as always, continues.
Mexico point of view: Stay perfect under Martino
A victory for Mexico over the United States in a noncompetitive game would exorcise the stat that El Tri hasn’t defeated the Stars and Stripes in a friendly since 1999. Also at stake is Mexico head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s undefeated record in his first 10 games in charge.
Obviously, the Gold Cup final was the big one for the rivalry and a victory for the U.S. wouldn’t change that or bring much in the way of revenge. In fact, it would possibly fuel the perception — at least for El Tri fans — that Mexico tends to be the team that wins when it matters. The stats in games since 2000 may be 14 wins, eight losses and six draws but in official competition, Mexico has won eight of the past 15 games (8-6-1).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mexico does head into this game as a significant favorite. Martino has 31 players in camp and the return of Hector Herrera, Jesus “Tecatito” Corona, Javier Hernandez, Hirving Lozano and Miguel Layun means that El Tri is much stronger than it was during the Gold Cup. The victory over the U.S. in the final came without arguably Mexico’s best two players (Herrera, Lozano) and the national team’s all-time top scorer (Hernandez). Martino himself said “we will be better” after the Gold Cup final and referenced those absentees.
– Martino brings strong Mexico squad to U.S.
The big question mark is which starting XI Martino will put out on Friday given the number of players in his squad and a game against Argentina coming up on Tuesday in San Antonio. More than the result, Martino will be looking closely at what those returning players can bring.
Martino is thought to be delighted with the progress of the younger players, particularly at how they have adopted his methods. The thinking is that Mexico will play the group stage of the CONCACAF Nations League (Bermuda, Panama) with the younger group, with a few of the more experienced players sprinkled in. Therefore, these games against the U.S. and Argentina will be used by Martino to figure out which players of the Europe-based players will be best suited for CONCACAF Nations league action.
For example, there seems to be little point in bringing both Raul Jimenez and Hernandez to play away against Bermuda given that one is guaranteed to be on the bench in Martino’s 4-3-3 system. (It’ll probably be one of Andres Guardado or Erick Gutierrez.) Equally, the Pulisic vs. Lozano angle — mainly pushed in the Spanish-language media — may not have any legs given both aren’t exactly the most brash personalities willing to trash-talk, but it will nevertheless be of interest to see two of CONCACAF’s best attacking on the same field and on opposite teams. Having such quality has to be good for the rivalry, especially given both are now playing for European clubs that are expected to be fighting for titles.
Lastly, this should be an entertaining game. Mexico has usually been the protagonist in this rivalry in terms of having the ball and taking the game to the U.S., something that’s continued under Martino’s aggressive style, but with Berhalter as coach, it seems like Stars and Stripes are now looking to play more front-foot soccer, meaning there should be plenty of space for the attacking talents on both teams to shine.
Hi there my new favourite blog! You don't know how happy I am to see a fellow 1D and Haikyuu fan
Hello my lovely 1D and Haikyuu fan! It’s so nice to me too finding other One Direction fans here in the HQ fandom too! This is a top 5 I really hopes someone will ask me sooner or later, I’m really happy to do it!
1. I'm A Believer (S2 OP 1). The first half of Haikyuu season 2 is overall my favorite sets of episodes, that hosts my overall favorite arc: the summer training camp. And I love the OP just as much, it makes me so happy! the fact that it’s the only op that features bokuaka has nothing to do with its first place on the rank
youtube
(idk why the preview is so weird but the video works, I promise!)
2. Imagination (S1 OP 1). You know what they say, first love - you never get over it. And I’ll never be over my very fist opening, looking at it again now brings up so many heartwarming memories. Even if I’ve never learned the lyrics, I always find myself singing along with incoherent words (like “Itsudatte daredatte soko ni tachitakutte / Machigatte iradatte mogaki tsudzukete” is my fave part but HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SAY THIS??? but who cares, let’s just sing!) Plus the level of kageina mirroring here is over the roof and this makes me so alive.
youtube
3. Hikari Are (S3 OP). I’m so emotionally attached to this one, because it’s the first series I’ve got to experience as an active blogger in the fandom. It’s not just about how epic the song and the animation is, it’s about all the memories that I shared with you all, all the excitement, all the screaming, all the crying. If I was to judge on the song alone, this one is hands down the best.
youtube
4. Mashi Mashi (S3 ED). Best ending. Ever. The song is so catchy and always made me dance on my chair, but the animation, as simple as it is, is what makes it so special to me. Getting to see ALL of them in the same place again was a true blessing. (THE EPIC IWAOI MOMENT I MEAN)
youtube
5. Hatsunetsu (S2 ED2). I don’t particularly like the song here, but I’m madly in love with the drawing and the animation. Honestly just that last shot of Oikawa is worth the watch. Truly mesmerizing.
The Week in Anime (Week of 11/13/17)
Heyo and welcome to another weekly version of TWiA! It’s been a rough few days, but I’m getting by. After Wednesday it should be free-sailing for me, and then Thanksgiving is around the corner (a welcome break). But we’re not here for my personal life, we’re here for anime! So let’s get started with...
The News Corner
There wasn’t really anything notable this week, so I guess I’ll talk about this...
Eromanga-sensei to receive new OVA in 2018
For those of you who read my mini-rant on this show, you know how I feel about it. Well, used to feel about it. Because I’ve softened my views on it a bit. Still not about the imouto romance, but it’s not the worst show ever made. Just one of the worst shows out there. It’s totally fine if you enjoy it: people have their different tastes and that’s fine.
But man, this is a thing. Not sure if it’s a sign of season 2, but if it is then whatever. That’s all I have to say about it.
And now with that comes the rankings, with a few big changes...
Rankings:
1 (0). Shokugeki no Soma S3 (9/10) [6/?]
2 (+2). Juuni Taisen (8/10) [6/12]
3 (-1). Just Because! (7/10) [6/12]
4 (-1). Net-juu no Susume (7/10) [6/10]
5 (+1). Love Live! Sunshine!! 2nd Season (6.5/10) [6/13]
6 (+1). Pingu in the City (10/10 ANIME OF THE CENTURY) (6.5/10) [5-6/26]
7 (+1). Blend S (5.5/10) [6/12]
8 (+2). Animegataris (5/10) [6/12]
9 (+2). Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte kara (4/10) [6/13]
Awards:
The “Red Flags” On Hold Shows of the Week: Mahoutsukai no Yome and Kino’s Journey
So I’ll be the first to admit that these shows aren’t bad. In fact, they aren’t the worst shows I’m currently watching from this season. But when I have absolutely no motivation to watch their episodes, I think it’s hard for me to really give these two shows a fair shot. So I’m putting them on indefinite hold. Maybe I’ll get to them during winter break, maybe I might never watch them again. Either way, it’s a relief for me to not force myself to watch these shows, and honestly that’s what I should be doing given anime is a hobby for me, not a job. As much as I like writing about shows both good and bad, sometimes I just want to watch something nice after suffering from theoretical math and stats. And if it’s a trashy moe show, then whatever.
High-Quality Cheese of the Week: Love Live Sunshine S2
And we’re back with some good cheesy moments, from top to bottom. It’s honestly these moments that make me question why I watch this show. The cheese was almost too much for me at points, like when the first years suddenly come to the beach to join the cheering. Like, that’s really freakin cheesy. Overall wasn’t really a great episode, and unfortunately from the next episode preview it looks like we’re getting the same next week. Oh well, I’ll just revel in the slice-of-life moments when they come.
Worst Episode of the Week: Blend S
I don’t usually do these “Worst Episode” awards, but this week’s episode of Blend S was honestly one of the worst episodes of anime I seen recently. Up to this point, this show’s been a cute watch with one huge glaring problem: the manager’s relationship with Maika. It feels... pedo-y to me, with the young adult in Dino and the 13-year old Maika. So when this episode became the fanservice episode complete with very questionable things, I was reminded of Eromanga-sensei in terms of underage love.
First, the biggest problem with this episode - the manager going swimsuit shopping alone with Maika. That... was super questionable. Is it just me? (the answer to that is always no). And then the whole fanservice shot insert song, which rubbed me the wrong way. I mean, this show had its bits of fanservice, but it was pretty bad during this episode. Maybe it is just me - I haven’t been feeling that good recently, which might translate into how I’m enjoying my anime. But I still think this episode reflects the current state of the show so far, which is questionable shipping. I liked this show best in the beginning when it was moe Working, AKA them working in the cafe and funny situations occuring there. Because right now, it’s just fanservice and ship galore, which I’m not really about. Hopefully the introduction of Surprise character gets back to the roots of this show.
Best Episode of the Week: Shokugeki no Soma S3
So we’re now into the whole “new director of Totsuki” arc and it’s been off to a great start so far! We learned about Erina’s past with her father, which really makes me like her character a lot more. Really helps to explain her tsun tendencies a bit, which was one of the things I didn’t like about her character. The show’s been moving at a good pace so far, and I’m excited to see what happens with the future of Totsuki with new director dude.
And that’s all for this week! Thanks for reading and I’ll see you in the next post!
Last week was Salesforce’s annual #Dreamforce conference in San Francisco, when over 100,000 Salesforce fans descend upon the city to listen to the latest innovations from Salesforce. I was unable to attend this year, but followed along closely at home to the announcements, and the one that stood out to me in particular was not Salesforce Blockchain, Einstein Voice or Customer 360 – it was the Salesforce Evergreen announcement that for me could be the real game changer. The Impact of Serverless To understand why you have to perhaps take a step back and look at how the rise of AWS and in particular, the AWS Lambda and the serverless paradigm has impacted development. Take the following example – you want to upload an image in Salesforce against a case both before and after work is completed. These images should be stored off platform in Amazon S3 and you want to have both the original and a thumbnail, with the thumbnail being displayed on the case. Whilst uploading the images to S3 could be done via Apex in Salesforce, the resizing must be done off platform currently. So how do we do this and where? We can either have an endpoint available on a platform like Heroku with a dyno running, or have a Lambda function that will run whenever called. Thats the key difference here, we have to have the Heroku dyno (at least 1) running to handle requests whereas with Lambda we are only paying per executed function. (Note this example is based upon a Lambda example from AWS you can read about here.) Whilst I am a big fan of Heroku, use cases like this lend themselves more to Lambda for running small jobs and repetitive functions where there is no need for a full web server framework to be setup, just receiving and processing some data from an event. Such scenarios are becoming more common as organisations want to connect more pieces of their process seamlessly. This has driven a number of people towards using serverless based solutions to handle these simple problems – they just need the code to run and perform the action. Many organisations are also working to modularise their systems into more discrete functional blocks, often referred to as microservices. I’ve written before on Salesforce and Microservices and spoken on the topic previously at Dreamforce 2015 and Dreamforce 2017. Previously, the conversation has always been how to make Salesforce interact nicely with serverless systems, or how to rearchitect parts of your existing Salesforce setup to operate in a more modular way. As soon as some more complicated processing was required (such as image resizing) you were forced off platform and had to decide which platform to use. How would you manage security and authentication? How could you invoke the new service – API via code or a Platform Event? You couldn’t think of doing all this on Salesforce – until now. Enter Evergreen Salesforce Evergreen is a new toolkit that will allow developers to write small functions and microservices using Apex, Java and Node.js which can be invoked natively from within Salesforce using both declarative and code based tools, as well as having native visibility to the platform – so no need to manage authentication. Taking our previous example, instead of a service running off platform, whether Heroku or AWS, we could now have a small set of functions that are called directly from the declarative tools in Salesforce. Whenever a case is closed. upload the images from Salesforce to S3, process these images and update the case. No additional infrastructure needed, no authentication required, all on a single platform. This is truly game changing, by allowing developers to build these functions using existing languages in Java and Node.js, you are enabling the developer to utilise all of the existing ecosystem of functionality out there. For example, npm, the package ecosystem for Node.js, has somewhere in the region of a million packages, covering all types of functionality – csv parsing to providing random jokes. Almost all of these libraries become available for use alongside your existing Salesforce applications with all the plumbing and authentication done for you! You simply add in what you need, leveraging the existing tools and off you go. Similarly, if you have an existing complex function in Java from an existing application, you can migrate that to become an Evergreen function and deploy it for use from within Salesforce! As wonderful a language as Apex is there are some things that it cannot do or that Java or Node.js will be a better tool for, now you can leverage these languages to do more with your Salesforce data. Summary The new Evergreen toolkit is going to make a huge difference to what is possible for Salesforce developers and opens up exciting new possibilities which should lead to some incredible new solutions. I am already signed up for updates from Salesforce on the Developer Preview and will be looking ahead for different applications for this toolkit for our customers. If you want to read more, Salesforce have posted a blog here. The post Salesforce Evergreen – A Game Changer For Salesforce Developers appeared first on Cloud Galacticos.
