Han Iseul: Visual, Lead Dancer, Korean, Speaks Korean
Ikeda Kaori: Maknae, Main Rapper, Japanese, Speaks Korean and Japanese
Extra Info about the Group:
Pre-debut, Etoile released a cover of Girls Generation’s “Genie,” and it blew up so fast that fans couldn’t wait for them to debut
Etoile is known as “the bridge between third and fourth generation” in the kpop community
The members are also known as “the princesses of SM”
Etoile does a lot of variety shows because everyone loves the members’ funny personalities and playful group dynamic
Etoile was featured in a popular kdrama as themselves, though they only had a few lines in a couple episodes, it became a fan favorite and made the ratings sky-rocket
Etoile’s second comeback, “Andromeda,” is said to have one of the most difficult girl group choreographies in kpop. It was also the song that got them their first win
When Etoile got their first win with “Andromeda,” all of the girls were crying hysterically, including Nabi who was supposed to give the speech. She ended up handing the mic to Y/N, who had just been smiling happily the whole time. Y/N pulled Nabi into her arms as she gave the speech, and then the other three girls assembled a group hug around them. It became such a tender moment for Starlights that everyone watching started crying too
Etoile did a collaboration music video with Sailor Moon where all the members got to dress up as the sailor guardians. Y/N was Sailor Moon, Nabi was Sailor Mars, Marie was Sailor Mercury, Iseul was Sailor Venus, and Kaori was Sailor Jupiter
Etoile has their own plushie characters that are put on headbands and other merchandise for Starlight, similar to BT21 and Skzoo. Y/N’s is a white swan, Nabi’s is a blue butterfly, Marie’s is a black cat, Iseul’s is a pink puppy, and Kaori’s is a yellow duck
Etoile did a collab with “rom&nd,” a korean makeup brand, where each member got to create their own shade of lipstick. The five shades the members created sold out in just three minutes.
Etoile performed a cover of EXO’s “Growl” during one of their concerts in male school uniforms, and Starlights were so impressed by how cool and masculine they were
Being sandwiched between the two girl groups, Red Velvet and Aespa are like the older and younger sisters of Etoile (respectively.) The Red Velvet members are always checking in on them and giving them advice, and Etoile does the same thing for Aespa.
Starlight is famous for being one of the most loyal and devoted fandoms. They buy the girls billboards and food trucks for their birthdays, protect them from antis, and offer so much love and support.
The members have their own youtube channel called “Etoile Clubhouse” that they have permission to use freely. They post lots of different content, including challenges, games, song/dance covers, mukbangs, get ready with me/us videos, and q&a’s
Extra Info about Y/N:
Y/N is known as the loving mother of the group, while Nabi is more like a strict dad
Kaori was still in high school when she debuted, and Y/N took care of her like a mother would her daughter. She would wash and iron her uniform, prepare her breakfast and lunch, and help her with her homework every night. Kaori’s mother was so thankful, as she couldn’t do all this for her daughter herself, still living in Japan
While all the girls are close, Nabi and Y/N are best friends, they even have friendship bracelets
While Iseul is the visual because she fits the KBS the best, Y/N is the center/FOTG because her visuals match the group concept the best. She’s known for her “white swan” visuals: ethereal, graceful, and elegant.
Y/N and Iseul were also chosen as members of GOT the Beat
Y/N was the first member to have a solo debut in 2021. Her debut song was fittingly titled “White Swan.” Nabi helped her compose the songs, Marie helped her with the choreography, and Kaori had a rap feature on one of the tracks. Y/N performed it at the MAMA awards, and everyone was singing/dancing along to it so hard they almost forgot about the actual awards show!
Y/N is an ambassador for Dior and Chanel. Many brands were offering her deals after Etoile became popular due to her unique visuals, so she got to choose the ones she liked best
Y/N is known as the “OST Queen” of the group, she has sang many drama OSTs
Y/N’s best friends at the company include Yeri (Red Velvet,) Taeyong (NCT/SuperM,) Karina (Aespa,) and Ten (NCT/SuperM/WayV)
Y/N has had cameos in many different artists’ music videos, including Stray Kids, Enhypen, and NCT Dream
SHINee’s Key dubbed Y/N “SM’s secret weapon”
Y/N was part of a one-time collaboration unit with Dreamcatcher’s Dami, Weki Meki’s Doyeon, IZ*ONE’s Yena, and fromis_9’s Chaeyoung. They released a single called “Wild Mind,” and it was so popular that fans were advocating to start a new group with just these idols!
Y/N once dyed her hair indigo to match the fandom color, and fans started to dye their hair the same color to match her. The shade became known as “Y/N hair” on social media
Y/N and Marie were mentors on a Chinese idol training show, all the girls loved them because they were super helpful without being too tough. It also gained Etoile a lot of Chinese fans
Y/N has very impressive high notes, Starlights have made several youtube compilations with titles like “Y/N obliterating the sound barrier with her high notes for 5 minutes”
Y/N’s nickname from Starlight is “Angel Voice” due to her clear, bright voice
Y/N sang a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” on Etoile Clubhouse, and Starlights tagged Taylor in it so much that she was shown the video in an interview. Taylor responded: “I’ve watched this video so many times! Her voice is so pretty. I met her once in Korea too, she’s so genuine and sweet! I’d love to collab with her, or Etoile as a whole. They seem so fun.”
Y/N was getting a lot of lip-synching rumors, until one day a staff member shared a video of her practicing before a concert with her mic on. It revealed her raw vocal talent and debunked all the rumors.

Happy Festa BPP! Is this something ppl do? Wish Festa like holiday? Ta! Happy Festa anyway!!
Don't know if you've said this before but how did you become army?
***
Hi Anon,
Honestly, no. I don't think wishing people Happy Festa is a thing within ARMY... People reminisce and all that but actually sending wishes, not really. But it's a nice gesture so I appreciate you sharing that festive energy with me.
All the Festas are sweet but something about a 10-year anniversary evokes strong memories. It's been a wild ride.
I've talked about how I became ARMY many times, but I can give an abridged version here.
I watched BTS's debut showcase No More Dream for the first time, some time in August 2013 but I don't remember which day exactly. I had heard about BTS by that point, (a lot of people had, which was unusual for a group from a small company and further shows how strong an impression they made at debut), but I didn't get around to actually watching their stuff till August.
I felt they were strong performers but had no other real opinion about them, and kinda forgot about them for a year, till their Dark & Wild comeback in August 2014.
After that album comeback, I consistently kept up with BTS but didn't really think of myself as a fan. The way I engaged with k-pop was to check out several groups I was interested in, sometimes go to their comeback shows if I was in Korea, attend KCON concerts, read Korean forums, etc. Like a fan of many groups but a stan of none, if that makes sense. So, I sort of watched BTS from the sidelines in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Throughout this time, I realized I loved every new musical output from them more than the previous one. It was clear they were improving not just their songwriting, production, exploring more genres, etc, but that they had a very distinct voice - a consistent message in their storytelling that seemed to come from their own lived experiences, for all seven members. Executed at the highest level. And that was something I had never, ever seen in k-pop or anywhere else really.
Of course, during this time, their fame, fortune, and success multiplied as well. And the latent animosity I'd observed since debut towards BTS from the wider k-pop fandom, just became more overt the more BTS became successful. That mess with EXO fans and the Blue House was particularly disgusting and soured my opinion on most fans of SM groups and the wider k-pop fandom. But by 2018, when it was clear BTS's rise was definitely stratospheric and already beyond the realm of k-pop, the gloves were off. The hostility became extremely blatant to the point k-pop stans were working with real life neo-nazis to physically assault Japanese ARMYs who were attending a concert, they were spam calling Japanese newspapers and Jewish foundations in America to put out a statement condemning BTS, and asking for the American government to blacklist BTS.
It was bonkers.
Sulli had ended her life just before the hate campaign against BTS hit a fever pitch in Fall 2018. I liked her a lot and her death shifted something in me - it made me re-evaluate my distanced, detached almost apathetic approach to k-pop beyond the music, especially regarding hate campaigns from k-pop stans that used to run completely unchecked and only escalated and became more sophisticated especially when the target was someone who broke against the norm. So, I linked up with some J-ARMY friends and we spent a weekend coordinating with local Japanese police to track down some k-pop stans working with neo nazis to assault BTS and ARMYs, and by the end of November 2018, I was calling myself an ARMY.
Nothing has really changed since then compared to how I was a fan of BTS before. Except that now, I buy their albums more consistently (it was kinda more sporadic / spontaneous before). I've never been a collector so I don't really care about PCs and what not. I educated myself on charts and fandom norms, and started watching more of their non-music content. I was already very familiar with their personalities and interpersonal quirks (jikook has stood out to me since 2015, yoonmin, namgi, namseok, and sope since 2014, and taekook since 2016 or so), but since 2018 I've found myself enjoying more of their auxiliary content though it's still not something I seek out (I still haven't watched SOOP 2 for example, lol).
Most of my friendships with fans of other k-pop groups I've maintained till now, and I still check out almost every new release in the industry when I have the time, and becoming a fan of BTS has been wonderful.
The ARMY community gets a lot of flack, like all big fandoms do, but there's a real community of genuine and smart people here that I appreciate. BTS has never disappointed me - and I had to really think before writing down that sentence. This industry is harsh, cruel. BTS had to navigate channels no k-pop group or Korean artist has had to before, they've single-handedly elevated an entire industry into the social consciousness of the wider world, and are still holding on to their relentless drive and sense of wonder.
These seven men are remarkable. They're some of the hardest workers I've ever seen. Fully dedicated to their craft and their team, artists and performers in every sense of the word. I thoroughly enjoy being a fan of the music they make, and supporting their growth as artists and people.
Tumblr media
Happy Festa everyone! I'm treating myself to Taro ice cream topped with pistachio nuts today to celebrate. Maybe we should make this some kind of holiday lol.

#BACKGROUND
Hanan was born in San Francisco, California. Only daughter of a successful business woman and his father being CEO of his own company, Hanan would have to move and live in different countries since early age until her parents decided on settling down in New York; there, she would start taking ballet lessons.
Hanan would always excel in every school assignment, and her former classmates would refer to her as “the triple treat: beautiful, smart and kind.” It’s after a ballet winter showcase that she gets scouted by YG, an agent reaching out to her parents telling them she had potential. Her dad was reluctant to let her go and be a trainee, while her mother told her that she supported whichever decision she made.
She became a trainee at the beginnings of 2013 under YG. Hana trained for three years under YG, even getting contemplated to debut as a Blackpink member, but ultimately Hanan didn’t make the cut.
While being a trainee, she also kept practicing ballet.
Months before blackpink’s debut, she parted with YG on good terms and decided on staying in Seoul for a while to try her luck, eventually getting scouted by SM entertainment.
On january 6 2017, Hanan made her official debut with NCT under the stage name “Hannah”.

TW: BTS FANS DO NOT GET ON STAN TWITTER.
TW: RANT ABOUT STAN TWITTER SITUATION
Ignore any grammar or spelling mistakes. I’m trusfrated 👍
An EXO-L took to Facebook to post a fake “translation” where they “revealed” that HYBE often paid for their groups awards, brand deals, charts, etc.
Well, that’s WHAT the KPOP fans took from it.
Instead of acknowledging that the translation was faked they decided to carry the delusion into other fandoms.
Now almost (yeah pretty much all the fandoms) are attacking BTS. Saying they PAID their way. Somehow they went from being extremely poor at their start to buying their career.
Just gonna casually mention how their album debuted with 34 Sales but that’s Payola for you.
I’m sure in 2010 when they were formed, they knew they would have multiple nominations at the Grammys.
I just know it!
Also. It gets better. According to KPOP fans HYBE is the reason for every groups failure. Especially the Big Three Groups. They’re also to blame for every single song by another group/company that did not chart.
Somehow HYBE even managed to pay G-Idle to block Aespa on the chart? I’m not sure how they profited from that but it happened.
Furthermore, HYBE/BTS are to be blamed for Big Bang, EXO, IKON, and more groups loss of popularity. I saw something about Loona too?
It is because of this that BTS won an award over EXO back in 2017. Yep. Something that happened in 2017 has been brought up in 2024.
I was also informed that HYBE paid for the following: The sinking of the Titanic. Jungkook’s Stuck Potatoes, Jin’s Decision to Cut his Cake with his hand. RM’s inability to Drive. Jhope’s fear of bugs & Snakes. And Taehyung and Jimins dumpling incident. I strongly believe they were involved with Suga bumping his nose with his straw too.
You know the time when he was on Live with his shoulder strap, drinking an americano? He kinda smiled real shy after he bumped his nose and giggled.
But one thing I rarely noticed mentioned was the reason behind all of this.
Min Hee Jin.
And her plot to Casually mention as many groups as possible in hopes of igniting a fanwar to Distract the public as much as possible from the actual allegations against her. The break down wasn’t working good enough, I guess.
“Step on Aespa’s neck.” She Quoted from Bang PD.
That group was literally minding their business before you dragged them in that mess. Not to mention her open hatred for Le SSERAFIM being the first GG to debut. This woman is mentioning every group alongside New Jeans.
I have no problem with these fandoms or their groups. It’s not hard to simply focus on the ones you like. But the way they’re going for BTS, Who has been minding their business and doing their required military service, is uncalled for.
It’s natural to lose popularity. You’re not going to win every single award… if you love the group then support them to your best ability. Don’t worry about who is ahead of you.
It’s just very WEIRD & DELUSIONAL behavior that is making kpop as a whole look very immature.
Also the fact that most of these groups are friends yet their fandoms are fighting like children for everyone on Twitter to see.
Yeah. I name dropped but I’m not dragging any group. I’m simply quoting what I seen on Twitter and giving my opinion. I swear it will benefit you not to get on there. There are some funny tweets tbh. A LOT of viral tweets. But it’s just extremely messy.
It’s back to 2017-2018 for BTS fans on twt. Every fandom on there is lurking. I feel bad for the ones just minding their business.
Lastly. Some bts fans are just focusing on Namjoon’s comeback (as they should.) Pre-ordering for Right Place, Wrong Person is available now!
ENTER STAN TWT AT YOUR OWN RISK BTS FANS😭
Also, I gotta mention how ENHYPEN casually danced to the Sweet Venom remix while the company is in flames. ✨They are icons ✨

Thoughts…
Until recently I kinda held hope that Lay would join exo for some special event like an anniversary or appearances here and there as time goes by but tbh I really don’t know anymore… I think it won’t happen. I thought that because he joined DFTF album despite the difficult circumstances (and that was such an exoL/for group fans comeback outta nowhere) and the wording of his letter to fans when his sm contract ended there was still room for ‘maybe something in the future.’ Perhaps I’m insufferably American and insufferably Western and I needed things said more straightforward and less bridges left standing…
I’ve also biased Lay for many years and will continue to do so because I like him for himself, not cause he’s an ‘exo member’ so this is not an issue for me. I’ve always followed his solo work, I’ve watched his dramas, and seen him in solo concert, and I own all his albums and will hopefully soon have his solo lightstick… like I’m in this deep lol.
This is my own personal feeling but I can’t ever bring myself to say OT8, I’d rather just not mention OT at all. I admit it really is very difficult for me to exclude Lay from exo member lineup because it makes me feel like an anti (whether that makes sense or not, that’s how it makes me personally feel given my experiences stanning exo and biasing Lay). Pre 2020, OT8 was literally synonymous with Lay anti.
I went through 2014 as a fan and all the years after. I remember how upset I was for him and how unfair I felt it was that he took the burden on himself to prove that ‘he is loyal, that his countrymen aren’t traitors.’ It was just such an unfair thing put on him…. And I def spent years defending him as an exo member while people, group/solo/multi stans alike, dismissed him as such as early as since 2014/2015-2017 when he was still very much active in comebacks and under sm contract.
So yeah. I’ve decided to let go of any hope of something OT9 in the future. I don’t like uncertainty. It’s actually very hard to find likeminded fans who are active in fandom who like the group and every member individually and sincerely and and are never unkind or shade the group/members. It’s very, very difficult…. So I feel like it makes my fandom experience difficult. I follow or interact with someone (or even a freaking fanbase) for their content on one member or the group only to see their hateful comments later and it’s very disheartening. So I’m trying to find a balance that works me to interact with fans who support Lay and support exo group and member solo work.
Anyway I wrote this all out for myself cause this is my fandom blog. I’m not trynna influence anyone or justify anything. It’s just my own feelings that have developed over time about something that’s been concerning me. And this helps me sort out things to write it out.

Tbh, I get this feeling. Yixing has been the most vocal about his time in exo. Always doing his best to thank his members and showing the pride about being the group. I do find it weird that ot8 don’t rly mention him that much anymore. They used a lot back in 2017/2018. Which is weird considering that’s when the tensions between Korea and China were at their highest. Now, from what I know atm, things b/w the two countries seem to be more or less okay. So, it’s awkward that they don’t rly include him in anything. Especially when Xing could’ve easily participated, like their fan meet in China right before Sehun enlisted.
I understand sm not rly mentioning him, well… cuz it’s sm. They suck. But it’s not like it was SNSD 9/30 situation where they voted him out or anything like that and they can’t legally mention him anymore. So, it makes me sad that the others don’t talk about him at least publicly. Obviously they meet up and talk in private if the phone call in “Jiu” and Xing directly mentioning meeting up with Sehun right before he enlisted, are anything to go by. But if Baek didn’t mention him because of knetz, then why did he mention Chan and Dae? B/c knetz still don’t like either of them (I just want to say I’m not condoning the hate Jongdae and Chanyeol have gone through. it’s truly saddening to see how they’re still treated). But you can’t have it both ways.
I’m not saying the members hate Xing or anything. I’m sure it’s quite the opposite. However, my ot9 heart dies every time I see Yixing like one of ot8’s pic on ig and yet he gets nothing in return. I rly wish things were different and that we got to see Xing with his members more often. But until Yixing says otherwise himself, he will always be apart of exo for me.
These are my thoughts ex’actly! It feels like xing is the only one trying. I’m sure they’re as close as they can be given the circumstances, but the public silence on the other members side is disheartening and it’s to a point I find it irritating.
Like you said, I’m p sure the tension has died down. I mean he did have a comeback with them since so ???
But god if we ever do see them all interact again imma be watching like a fucking hawk

I have a question about Lay that I'm hoping you can help with. I know officially he is an EXO member. But why is he never with the group? I've seen people say it's because of the political tensions between China and Korea, but then why does other singers have no problem? Like Henry Lau is Chinese too but he seems to be in Korea all the time. And Jackson Wang has never missed a GOT7 comeback.
Well, they aren’t going to publicly state the reason as political tensions, but that was the reason during 2017-2018. Not only was he born in China but Yixing is also an ambassador for the Communist Youth League of China of Changsha. South Korea is anti-communist, so it was definitely political tensions that unofficially kept Yixing from promoting with EXO during that period.
I don’t know much about GOT7, but Wikipedia tells me Jackson was born in Hong Kong, so I’m assuming the political issues were different for him. And while Henry is of Chinese descent and does occasionally work in China (sometimes with Yixing,) he is Canadian. After finishing his contract with SM, Henry co-founded and signed to another South Korea-based agency, still lives in South Korea, and primarily releases songs in Korean and/or English. Very different from Yixing’s situation. A similar comparison would be Victoria Song. f(x) more or less stopped group activities because Victoria had to return to China, like Yixing.
Political tensions are still there, but until a few months ago, travel restrictions were mainly due to the pandemic. Apart from group photoshoots, Yixing was back full-time for DON'T FIGHT THE FEELING, and he has been adamant about being EXO, even after his contract with SM expired. So unless they say otherwise, Yixing is EXO.

Happy Donghae Day!
2011 | 2012 | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | 2020 | 2021 | 2022
Well, we’ve made it through another year and it’s time for Donghae Day! To be quite honest, I don’t know that I thought I’d still be such a big kpop fan in the year 2023 - I’m not sure I was even thinking about 2023 when I became a kpop fan back in 2011. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that 12 years have passed and then other times it seems it went by in a flash. But here we are - on the 12th annual Donghae Day!
For those (very few) of you who are new - October 12, 2011 was the day I learned about kpop. I’ve been celebrating this day in various ways since then. Prior to 2016 (when I was working 2 jobs), I usually went out to dinner with friends or treated myself to something nice. Since I started my full time job in 2016 (!) I’ve taken the day off almost every year (except 2020) if I was working. And this year is no exception! I don’t have any real big plans, except to go to H Mart and maybe Trader Joes. My life is so exciting, I know.
But that’s been the theme of the past few Donghae Days, ever since the pandemic took over our lives. I am one of the few people who still doesn’t go out (I haven’t really been sick since 2019) and see people that often, though I am seeing people, so I am not a complete shut-in. But Donghae Day isn’t to talk about these bad things (and god, there have been so many this year since the entire world is on fire). Instead, it is to talk about things that are good and happy - because those do exist.
Most every day (unless I’m off visiting my dad), I fire up my watch later and listen to the most recent releases (kpop and others). There’s a lot of great music out there and finding it and consuming it makes me happy, as does sharing it. That’s why I still do my song-a-day playlists! Every day since Kpoptober 2020, I’ve been posting one song a day and it’s still going. My first kpoptober was 2019 and I’d originally meant to just post in October, but after the pandemic, I decided I wanted to share music every day, so here we are. It’s a true labor of love, since all the tracks I post are ones I like (and sometimes adore). You can find links to all of the playlists (YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music) by year here:
song-a-day playlists
Tumblr media
Also in 2023 (some sad stuff happened: Moonbin, I miss you) - there were new groups that debuted and others that had comebacks, but for me there were a few specific comebacks that made me really happy:
Teen Top
Infinite
EXO
ONF
It’s hard to explain, but I don’t know that I thought either Teen Top or Infinite would ever come back, in spite of the fact that neither group had ever mentioned they were disbanded. Both of those releases were great and I am so happy they’re still making music. EXO coming back was also quite a shock (especially considering all the drama surrounding them and their contracts). However, their release was enjoyable as well (and in the process, my favorite members changed again - don’t ask or maybe do). And, of course, the rest of of ONF returned from the military - what a delight! Their release was also wonderful (and I think their albums might arrive today, which how perfect!) and as great as their previous ones. And while, sure there are plenty of other groups who’ve come back with great release this year (Just B, I’m looking at you), these four really meant a lot to me.
Tumblr media
Over the past year it’s not just music that I’ve been consuming. I’ve made my return to watching kdramas and watched a couple of Chinese dramas as well. This year (2023) I’ve watched (and finished) 6 dramas (see them here), not as many (yet) as 2021, but more than 2022 (when I watched none). I’ve also been watching a lot of anime, both with the (virtual) anime club I am a member of and on my own, which has been a lot of fun. I’m reading more and have found my way back to Animal Crossing again, which has been a lot of fun.
But the real thing that keeps me going are my friends and family. Donghae Day only exists because my journey as a kpop fan hasn’t been alone. I have made so many wonderful friends, some have come into and gone from my life, but many others are still here. Not all are connected by kpop, some are people I’ve known for years (online and off), others I’ve only gotten close to recently and still others I've known only through places like Discord. I am forever grateful to these people, close friends and acquaintances alike. They have made my life a better place and I hope that I’ve done the same for them, even in just the tiniest of possible ways.
If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading! And if this is your 12th post or even your first, thank you for joining me on this journey, whatever form it may take. I hope to see you in 2024!

what's your kpop journey ? (how you got into it, your first groups and biased, your opinion on kpop before etc.)
I was extremely young when I first got into K-pop. Nobody by The Wonder Girls was the first viral song I've remembered (the English version), and then Fire by 2NE1 was everywhere too. Props to Dara, she definitely played a huge role in bringing K-pop to mainstream Filipinos everywhere.
Not to go full old man yells at cloud, but back when people still had cable TV, MYX usually played K-pop MVs and they were often topping the charts. SNSD to BigBang, and of course, 2NE1. A little Fiction by Beast, then EXO changed the game with Wolf and Growl. That was my only source of K-pop before the advent of streaming and the accessibility of YouTube. I definitely remember enjoying BigBang's music the most, they had this insane stretch where Blue, Bad Boy, and Fantastic Baby all topped the daily charts and were like 1-2-3 at one point, so they were my de-facto boy group. Still is, even to this day :<
After 2013, I suddenly stopped listening to K-pop and watching MYX as a whole, and became a hater (I was one of those people who was curious as to why BTS was everywhere circa 2017-18). Then 2020 hit, everyone was stuck indoors for months on end, and boom, here comes another YG group pulling me back in for good—Blackpink was everywhere that year. Three comebacks, a documentary, and then the online concert. I've expanded my taste since then, both past and present, but it's been a wild ride. So regardless of how you feel about Blackpink's success or YG as a dysfunctional company as a whole, I have a lot of personal sentiment and bias towards their idols and artists as the catalyst to converting me into K-pop. I hope they get their shit together, and that Baby Monster and Treasure live out the glory of their seniors.

Way back, i was one of those who judged kpop and their fans. it was during my elementary years. honestly, i tried to join my friends but i just couldn't understand their 'weirdness', the term i used to label kpop fans.
I remember when i was in fifth grade it was the year EXO rose to popularity. every girl i knew in school were talking about them and fighting over their ultimate bias. i heard Luhan and Baekhyun's name over and over at that time. I even chose Luhan as my bias even if i didn't have any idea abt him including his face. i just wanted to join the trend but then I realized kpop was not for me.
Then, came seventh grade and blackpink rose to popularity. girls in my class were dancing to their music and i just found myself enjoying their music as well. still, i saw the rest of kpop and their fans as 'weirdos'... i just appreciated blackpink and lisa and rosé and jennie and jisoo and Kdramas. That was it.
2017, i watched scarlet heart. loved it but didn't recognize exo's baekhyun. i thought he was just an actor who is cute and funny.
2018, my bff introduced me to exo's kai. she said he was the hottest idol so far in her eyes. i just nodded and agreed with her because that was so true of her.
2019, heard about another exo comeback but didn't mind. i had other things to worry.
2020, the pandemic happened. my aunt watched this drama entitled Memories of Alhambra. EXO's Chanyeol was Shin hye's brother. I honestly went through with the drama because I found chanyeol interstingg. But here is the thing, i had no idea he was an idol and that he was chanyeol. i didn't know he was an exo member—the group that was really famous during my elementary and highschool years. I didn't know. i didn't know that was the day i'd start my exo-l journey.
so, chanyeol. I wanted to see his full face. I was curious because he looked really cute and handsome with glasses and bangs. I just thought he must be really handsome without those bangs and glasses covering his face. as a sucker for handsome men, i did what i do best.
i clicked the google app. searched for 'Memories of Alhambra cast'. Saw CHANYEOL and clicked his profile. I was taken back. literally, taken a back. i clicked on the images. no way, he is indeed good looking for pete's sake. i clicked on his wikipedia photo and it led me to his detailed profile. WAIT? AN EXO MEMBER? ok, interesting... i didn't know they can act.
i don't know why but i just got myself watching videos of chanyeol on youtube. i even followed his instagram account and exo's ig acct as well. i stalked the guy and exo's feed. handsome. they are all handsome. but, chanyeol? he was the apple of my eye.
so, youtube fed me with chanyeol videos. he is a funny and talented guy. but what made me like him the most was the fact that he can play instruments. i appreciated the piano because of him and up until now i still do (literally made me a yiruma fan and made me bought a piano).
so from chanyeol videos, i don't know but i eventually found myself watching exo videos. yn the yt algorithm.
now, exo. i loved their dynamics. there is something abt their relationship that is very true and pure. something unexplainable. something that is only between them. and i liked that.
i just slowly learned to love the boys. they helped me laugh when the pandemic made me sad. they made things bearable for me. so bearable that if it weren't for them i guess i would have never made it through my bad days. really bad ones.
however, i was still the same fifth grader who judged kpop music unless it was blackpinks music and bts' dynamite and butter. i never dared to listen to exo's music aside from their love shot song, the hottest ever.
but things happen. the stars connected me to their music. i was watching exo videos on yt while washing the dishes. the video was over and it played exo's love shot stage on music bank(?). i couldn't stop it from playing because my hands were full. i was glad that happened... dude?!! that stage was crazy. kai was crazy. everyone was. their vocals?? oh god. chen's high note? i was hooked.
that stage was what i replayed for days. then i decided to listen to tempo with my earphones. GUESS WHAT? I FELL INLOVE. harmonization. vocals. god what did i just hear?? they can sing SING.
and that was it. i got hooked to their music (title tracks atm). i watched reaction videos and saw that i was really right abt their great vocals.
then this guy. there is this guy. i kept on noticing him. not only bcoz of his looks but because of his voice. he was doh kyungsoo. there was something abt him that is attractive that he does not force and that was how chanyeol bid goodbye as my ultimate bias. 😭🫶
i became a kyungsoo fan thru yt videos. from his song covers up to his films. in fact, 100 days my prince was the least expected drama i thought i would watch. it was crazy good and funny. he was just built different. a really great one indeed.
july 2021, i discovered stan twtr. i had always been a youtube-l. i regretted being late because i never had the chance to join kyungsoo's vlive after his discharge from the military. but still i was ok since july was the month the exo's decided to drop dftf. I JOINED THE HYPE AND I WAS SO EXCITED. i became their fan evenmore but i didn't label myself as an exo-l yet because i didn't know we were called that HAHAHAHA
since then, i was there. from dftf to kyungsoo's first album, kai's peaches, suho's grey suit, xiumin's brand new, kai's rover, to all the activities of the members. my day was not complete if i missed a single update.
i was there when the members started to come back from the military. i was there during their sm concert. i was there during their group performances. i was there but only online HAHAHAHA
and now, issues... i was trained by senior-ls already and so it is not surprising. I JUST WANT TO END THIS ALREADY KAY GRABE ONE BOOK SIGURO IF MAGPADAYON PAKO AHHAHAHAHA BASTA I LOVE EXO SO MUCH, NO ONE CAN BEAT THEM
yes, i have been a fan of exo for 3 years now and i have never been this invested to a kpop group. they were not the ones who introduced me to kpop but they are the reason why i stayed.
i treat them as my soulmates... i met them at the right time... i cannot imagine leaving... i will always stand by their side no matter what happens eyyyyy

30 Day Kpop Challenge
Day 21: a song from your favorite era
The Eve by EXO; The War Era
youtube
I know it kind of became a meme because the KoKoBop era felt like it went on forever, but it’s my absolute favorite, and 2017 was a happy summer for me in large part thanks to The War album. And the famous choreo notwithstanding, The Eve is a song I can listen to pretty much any time. That whole album is, really. Sometimes I’ll still go back and watch the individual teasers leading to the comeback. Plus many of the looks the guys had were STUPIDLY good! Like, obnoxiously attractive.

My kpop trash bin life journey
I am not lying to anyone, there was a big period of my life where I was deep into kpop. I would even call it unhealthy, but I want to share it. Though, in all honesty I hope no one was like me.
My journey started all the way back to 2011, my very first kpop group was big bang. My mother was actually the one who introduced it to me saying that I should listen to kpop. I think she just wanted to talk about it with someone though… Anyway, the first kpop song for me was Haru Haru by Big Bang. That pineapple lives in my memory very vividly to this day.
Since my first song was from Big Bang you would think they would be my first group, right? Wrong, I was so over my head for Girl’s Day, Apink, Girl’s Generation, and Cnblue. It became around this time that I started to get more interested in Korean variety shows as well as the culture in general. I started watching shows like Running Man, Infinity Challenge, We Got Married, and so on. I would say I was pretty healthy during this time too; I didn’t obsess over any of these idols either. I’m pretty sure I followed other groups I can’t remember right now too.
Another 2 years go by and now it’s 2013, my mom discovers BTS, she falls in love, but so do I. I find them to be pretty interesting. Still, I prefer the groups I had previously mentioned a little bit more. I started to become interested in Exo and I rekindled that Big Bang flame too. Then flash forward to 2015, the start of my madness.
In 2015, I would fall in love with Seventeen, Twice, and the SM Rookies (NCT before they became NCT). This was when I learned more about fan culture among the kpop community. Before this year, I never thought I would want to order any albums because it just wasn’t a thing back then for people living overseas. What I mean by that, was how it wasn’t as easily accessible as it is now. Despite wanting albums, I was doing alright, or so I thought.
2016 came rolling in and I felt the need to support every group I followed, and I will list them all out for you below:
Twice Exo BTS NCT Apink Girl’s Day CNblue Day6 Astro Seventeen BtoB KNK Victon SF9 Sistar
I’m not lying I felt like I needed to support everyone, and I did very successfully just that. I wrote down when each of their comebacks would come out, I followed their socials and so on. If there was anything any of these idols had been you bet, I was going to be watching them. Now, if you’re wondering about my life, don’t worry. At this point I was in school, and I never slacked when it came to grades. So, no one in my family said anything.
I lived this life all the way up till 2018, which is not healthy. I love kpop, but by the middle of 2017 I felt like I needed to support them. BTW I had added more groups to this list as well. Going back to the feeling of needing to support them, it was unhealthy. I was obsessed, I was a dumpster of kpop and nothing more. I didn't think that way though. I was like, I’m so happy I know so much about kpop. I know everything that’s going on at the moment in the kpop world.
Of course, my health wasn’t that way. I spent several hours watching kpop, even if there weren’t any subtitles. I even bought products they endorsed. I even went to kcon which wasn’t all that exciting as I expected it to be. The only thing I don’t regret was the concerts. I felt that if I didn’t support them in this way, I didn’t have the worthiness to call myself a fan. Which is not true in any way. Now what was so wrong with this life? Well, I didn’t pay attention to myself. I realized my whole personality and life was centered around kpop and not who I was as a person. Let that sink in for a moment.
I had to take one good look in the mirror and see who I was. I was someone who knew more about kpop than their own self. Now, I’m not blaming kpop, I have only myself to blame. I should have paid more attention to myself. I know that now and I don’t get carried away like I used to. Now, I dress up, go out and I know who I am. It took me two years of limiting my kpop intake. Man, I sound like I had an addiction.
So where am I now?
I watch kpop, but I’m nowhere near as invested as I was back then. I still have my groups like Astro, Twice, and SF9, but I’m satisfied. I don’t feel the need to watch everything they do, nor do I feel the need to do anything I was like before. I think those three groups are the only ones I constantly check up on.
What I’m trying to say is don’t make the same mistake I did. Don’t feel like you need to watch everything your fave is in. Also, I used to be one of those people who wouldn’t listen to mainstream pop because I was like “ew gross” which is totally not true. I see some people like that these days and I think you need to understand everyone has their own music tastes.
In the end, you don’t breathe and live for your idol. Don’t spend hours upon hours watching content on kpop. Take a look at yourself and see who you know more about, a kpop idol or yourself. If kpop is the one thing that makes you happy, please find something else. I trust you that it’s going to make your life a lot better. Well, that’s all I have to say and I hope those of you who made it this far found this interesting to gaze upon.

Hello! I just want to say reading your blog reignites my interest on this ship and reading your observations about them makes me think I've been missing quite a lot of their moments/interactions. I was a casual jaedo shipper back in 2017-2018. I knew doyoung and jaehyun since rookies days since I was a fan of suju and then exo. I was also well aware of them mc-ing together as it was happening back then (I saw people complained that sm is promoting the rookies too much). (1/4)
But I started stanning them full time only when doyoung was added in 127 for limitless comeback. As a new fan of doyoung, I just casually follow what seemed to be his most popular ship without much thinking. I just think jaedo looks good together. I also understand where the shipping comes from (them mc-ing together) so I was not reluctant to jump in. And then I sort of lost interest in nct circa 2019-2021. I didn't keep up with detailed updates, let alone any jaedo that happened. (2/4)
Only when the link+ happened I came back to the fandom with renewed feelings. Doyoung has alwasy been my bias, it never changed. The question for me was do I still ship jaedo or not. Last month when there were rumors of twitter closing down, I prepared to move to tumblr. That's when I stumbled over your blog. After reading/lurking here for weeks, you've totally changed my perspective on them. (3/4)
Personally, I participate in shipping because it's fun, I don't necessarily want to believe that they are real. But as I read more and more of your posts, I keep doubting myself that maybe.. maybe... I was wrong. Some of the proofs/observations you presented are just too hard to deny, and I'm losing my mind over it. Thank you for opening my eyes to all the things I've missed I guess. I hope you have a great day :) (4/4) ps. I don't know how to send a long ask so I hope this was correct.
----------
Hi-hi, thank you for writing, you gave an interesting new perspective.
I guess we need a different word for following/supporting a real celebrity couple, but there is none, plus the "ship" umbrella kind of helps to hide (to not attract too much unwanted attention), and there are elements of "normal shipping" in place as well.
I'm sure I'm read by people who do not believe me. And there are readers who noticed the couple themselves, made their own conclusions, and only found additional arguments here.
I get why JaeDo as a "classical" ship will not be as interesting nowadays in comparison to the earlier years. They do not interact much, there are less content for the two of them, there are other rival ships, and there are lesser people who write fanfics or do content. Not the "evidence" kind of content though. Compilations with moments of the year are continued to be made. I feel like fans are even more sure with each passing year. All the hiding only persuades in the positive, heh.
I don't know from which angle JaeDo are again interesting to you (the realness?), but I think at this point (considering they've been together for 4,5 years and "settled down") it's more about observing how the two grow as artists side by side, supporting each other. If I'm not mistaken, Doyoung didn't bubble anything on the day of Jae's incident with Puma's monkey bars. We can see the whole way from ShowChamp to the current dome tours and brand deals.
Heh. I'm reminded about the fanmeetings and fans hugging Jaehyun or Doyoung, and their reactions. Even today there are still new moments to be surprised with. The ship isn't dead.

i don't get why people think yixing is going to participate in the next exo comeback i truly don't. he left the group and he even made a whole song about him leaving the group (and in good terms!), so why do you think he's going to show up? 😭😭 we could argue he's been gone since 2017 girl let's be real!!!!!! "but in dftf he-" no he didn't <3 green screen is a comfort not a reality. like right now i don't want yixing to remember that exo still exists i need certain exo members to remember that exo still exists etc etc
